Good afternoon..... I'll have an RBF please.
Jeff .... Thanks for the update on your recovery from surgery. I bet you will be glad to have the prosthesis in place especially after you are used to having it. Also, I hope your remaining foot is okay.
Galaxy .... We miss your posts. I assume your computer is not yet repaired and you can return soon.
John Boy ,,,, Prayers for your neck problem. I think your doctors are delaying things too much.
On the layout, I am testing my track as I go along. I have had all sorts of problems with a curved switch installation. My track testing locomotives include my 2 first run, Lief Like, Proto 2000 SD7's. They derail with the slightest imperfection. A short while ago, I finally adjusted the switch and the curve tracks connected to it so my SD-7's roll through without bouncing onto the ties.

Hi guys, just checking in. I think I'm gonna build another 2 x 4, maybe.... class starts next week, I get to take math I hate math. Still no luck in the job hunt either, looking, applying, even visiting to check if they looked over my app. no response from BNSF or MTL when I applied to them, just my luck though.
Jeff those photos on the last page, how big was your layout(prior to partial removal for your computers)?
I bought some SP&S boxcars last week, a WP F3A to repaint for SP&S #802, and some Seattle North coast boxcars. to bad there are no locomotive decals on the market for them, I would've tried to make myself a pair of SNC F7's(ex BN units).

Afternoon all. Sweet tea would be great please.
Went hiking along the Wheeling & Lake Erie tracks just down the road from our house late this morning/early this afternoon with my young Son. He rides on my back in a hiking backpack designed for just such a thing. We had a blast. We got about 6 miles into our hike along the tracks, essentially in the middle of nowhere, and we began noticing a lot of railroad debris. Hundreds of old track spikes were strewn everywhere, sections of old rail piled here, scattered there, old ties heaped in disorganized piles all along the tracks, metal plates that go under the rails and have spikes nailed into them were dropped about, old cans and Greese tubes dropped about, hoses and metal pipes...just a lot of cast off materials for about a mile stretch. We hike along the local Norfolk Southern and CSX tracks and have never come across something like this before. Anyway, we had fun until a yellow jacket stung my Son on the side of his face when we were still a good 3 miles from home. Luckily I carry a first aid pack with us and put some afterbite on it and had him hold an icy bottle of water on the spot. He was a real Trooper, but is sore now and laying on the couch watching Thomas the Tank.
Whew...what a day! Looking forward to working on my Sons N Scale layout tonight.
Have a great day and happy modeling all!
Don.

that's pretty big, pretty awesome as well.
EMD Don, sounds awesome will you be showing pics of your son's N scale layout?
Man I should stop looking at model train layouts, just makes me want one even more..... I've had my nose to the grinder looking for a new job and have had no luck yet....

I did more work on the Super F3. No number boards yet though the slots have been filled level with the shell. I may be able to to make the boards themselves from a piece of basswood I scrounged up. In the photo below is evidence of another experiment. I added filter screens on the grilles. I made them from pieces of cloth adhesive tape which I fixed in place with super glue. Just put the glue on and let it soak through.
Hey Gang! Not much goin on here. Spent most of the day either arguing with my cell phone. It kept losing my contacts and Verizon is about as clear as mud on how to fix it. I finally just did the intelligent thing. I set it on the kitchen counter til SWMBO got home. She spent 2 hours on the phone with Verizon before they decided the phone was broke (duh!!) and are overnighting me a new one.I had my own hell to deal with, installing a set of Smokey Valley handrails on a GP9B. Never again. 5 of em broke coming off the sprue, and I was using a set of stainless nippers made just for that!!! Absolute junk IMHO. Then soldering handrails on a plastic shell was nerve wracking itself!! Yeah, they look great now, but I can live with Athearn metal rails other than these in the future.Better hit the sack now. 2 cords of wood coming at 7 am, and I have a meeting in town at 9.Nite all!
Rodent defense squad, on high alert!

NCE über alles!
Time for me to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.
Good evening. .... I'll have a hot fudge sundae made with frozen custard. Heavy on the whipped cream on top, please.
Karl .... Your rodent defense squad will be most effective. ... Last time I tried glue traps in the garage, I got small lizards a baby snake, and lots of bugs. No mice..... The Decon poison is effective too, but care is needed to keep pets away from it.
Tested my newly installed track some more with the SD-7's. No Derailing. So, I can move on down the line with more tracks to install.
I'm noticing a recurring theme amongst Model railroaders... a lot of y'all have cats! buncha chessie fans, no wonder there are no SP&S models made! (nothin' wrong with chessie one of my top 5 eastern roads)
I'm a dog person, but cats are ok wish my sisters cat was a little less skittish.
an interesting photo for you guys, from when my gramps was working for WSDOT during the 80's and 90's.
edit: got the top eat up fellas!
Good Morning!!!
Coffee and a slice of banana cream pie please. Thanks.
A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 1pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 84.
Welp, tonight's the last night wo*king the bar at the restaurant, then tomorrow back to normal in the kitchen. Actually enjoyed the last 3 days. My buddies daughter waitresses and, even though technically I’m tending bar, the “bar scene” is almost non-existent so it’s more help her and answer the to go’s than anything. She usually only wo*ks on weekends as her dad and brother do it during the week, but they went on a fishing trip to Lake Tanneycomo (sp?) Sunday so she wo*ks for them and I, well I’m there to keep an eye on her, and she is there to keep an eye on me. Together we see pretty good. I like wo*king with her better than anyone else. Ah well, all good things must come to an end. (chuckle)
Saaaay, since Brenda is off until Friday (couldn’t figure why she just didn’t take that day too, but I caught her at the elevator yesterday. She’s getting fidgety what with quiting smoking AND having nothing to do, so I can see why) maybe she’ll want to go into the buffet.
Ya’ll have a good day, ya hear!!!!

Good morning. It's 76° with 86% humidity. The high will b 95° and will feel like 100°.I'm feeling kind of confused this morning. I look at things and I don't quite know what they are. I was changing the dressing on my leg and I picked up the roll of gauze and I thought 'now I was going to do what with this?'. Not surprisingly I don't have any plans for today. Surprise, surprise. I'm sure something will come up. I resigned my moderator status yesterday, so I'm just one of the regulars here today.
Mornin' everyone!
"The Sun is a Shining to Welcome the Day..." Wow! two bright and sunny days in a row! Unheard of this summer... Zoe, I'll have a pot of dark roast coffee and a couple Sour Cream donuts to dunk this morning.
Yielded 22.25 kWh yesterday. Today should be as good (I hope). Been a lean month so far with a lot of rain and clouds out there. I have an eye appointment early this afternoon so that will ruin most of the day for getting any of the projects accomplished I have to finish.
Guess I better get at it while I can....

We'll get there sooner or later!
Well
I probably wasn't missed much this last week, and no one missed the limericks, I am sure. I will not read back to catch up, too many days passed.
Been a tragedy of stories here with the computers.
Forst off, the monitor died on us last Wed, well it was failing, but I left it on and then it would work. Until a happened that is and the power went ka-pluie. THAT ended that monitor's life completely. Now Wed. I ordered a new one from Dell {i know I know some of you are not "Dell-ites" or "Dell-ians" BUT} to go with the new Dell computer form a yr ago {shoulda bought the monitor then}.
SO Before the power went out and killed it, I ordered online a monitor from Dell BUT: the net connection failed in the middle of CC processing! SO I called Dell to finish the order on the computer phone, and Dell calls me on the other phone to finish the order! I said I was!
Long story short there was I was getting "2nd day shipping". Well, then I said, will I have it Friday {2 days later}? Nope, the 18th or AFTER!. I siad "that is NOT 2nd day shipping"!! They shipped it Friday I was told on the phone, TWO monitors! One Shipped Thursday, and One shipped Friday! Isiad I should have by MOnday..nOPE "2nd day" only applies to BUSINESS days...DUH! I kbnow that ..Friday is day one, Monday day TWO...nope it would be Monday day one, but would be here the 18th or after {again}. STILL NOT 2 days. MON and TUESDAY woudl be 2 day shipping. Grr..
SO here it is Wed, MOH needs the computer for work stuff that MUST be done in 2 days after evetns, so time is short.
The tgablet work gave MOH would not work. So we went to Best Buy to but a monitor!
Now, the tablet wouldn't work, My fathers computer is down and in shop, FILs is still on dial up and the library charges $30 for library cards to use their computers! Ohter friends have no computers, believe it or not.
So we bought one, NOW as the Dell is still not here, BUT may arrive today. I think we keep as a spare now.
Now Dell has its persons in INDIA, so I was not happy about deciphering an indian accent on the phone, but they assure me it should be here "AFTER the 18th"...that is "2 day shipping?" !!! Will have to speak to Michael Dell aboutg bring back call centers to USA!
Whew.. feels like being in the dark when not having computer!!!
Now I ordered new glasses today for the bigocal as I can only see computer monitor with the bifocal, so I will have a whole pair to read with. I get headacches or have to sit close to the monitor to see it without the glasses. A bigger monitor than the 20" we got is not necessary....Got MOH new glasses today too.
Been spending money like we had it!
well, I have over a couple hunder emails to read through..so I will leave you all hanging with desire to see my morning greetings and limericks wiht bated breath!!!
ha!I doubt it.

At Dell he spoke to Bobby,

Evenin' folks!
Janie, just a nice hot cup of decaf for me tonight, please.
Nice sunny day all day today here in the Finger Lakes, and not with the clear sky the Harvest Moon is looking great out there.
Galaxy.... I knew something was missing here in the dinner, just couldn't put my finger on it. No Limericks last couple mornings.... Didn't get my groan in.
Had my eye appointment today. Doc says everything is good and no real problems. I have lost a bit of my distance vision though. I told him I can still see to read just fine and I can see off in the distance clearly, but the few feet outside my reading glass coverage tend to be more blurry than it was. He asked me if I knew why? I told him it has to do with getting old. He nodded his head and said, "exactly!" I also told him I had been having some dryness and a gritty feeling from time to time. He gave me a sample of some eye drops he says are much better than the usual over the counter stuff. Don't need a prescription though.
Also have finished the booklet for the reunion committee. Or should I say I have finished the first final rough draft of the booklet.... The ladies on the subcommittee will be giving it the once over and helping me with peoples names on Friday. Hopefully within a couple hours it will be accepted by the group and I can get into print mode. Tomorrow I will take the rough draft and the envelope down to the Post Office to have it weighed and have them tell me what it will cost to mail. BTW, why do they call it Mail? After all, you have to pay a fee for it. Why then don't they call it "Fee Mail"? I dunno....
Have to give Blackie the cat his evening pill...
I came up with a pair of number boards for one of the F3's today. I cannibalized them from an old PennLine F7 shell. It still required quite a bit of work and time to get them into usable shape as they had to be cut from the thick plastic of the shell then trimmed to fit the number board slots of the F3. But in the end it looks OK to me. Once it's painted they should look a lot better. That's it for today. See y'all tomorrow.
Jeffrey:
You were a great moderator! Calm and cool and not too quick to nail any potential offenders. Well done!
I'll bet you are on some pretty strong pain killers and that they are messing with your mind. Been there, done that! Put my wife through heck! (She would use stronger language to describe what she went through when I was on pain killers after having my spine fused but we are limited here in what we can say).
Best wishes!

I'm just a dude with a bad back having a lot of fun with model trains, and finally building a layout!
Good Morning Folks,
we are enjoying a fairly quiet Autumn weather these days, so at least we don´t have to spend the final campaigning days in the rain ...
3 more days until we are being called to the polling stations. The official polls have started to rise above the 5% hurdle, so it seems most likely that I will be a Congressman by next week
I have cancelled most of my campaign events, as I am not feeling up to par. There is a press meeting today and a final event on Saturday - that´s all. Sunday I will be heading to our state capitol Hannover, where we will have a party, hopefully celebrating a landslide victory. The press has already booked some time with me on that day...
Jeff - thanks for the great service you have given to the community. Being a moderator is not always a rewarding task, maybe not as unrewarding as being a party chairman Both jobs simply can´t be done for an indefinite time. I am still glad to see that Sundown Loco Refurbishing Shops enjoy a full order book!
Todd - I failed to comment on it, but I was shocked to read about Brenda´s heart issue. I feel much relieved that she is doing fine. Continuing !
Blessings to all!
I heard in the news about a bad bus-train accident with fatalities near Ottawa, Canada. Sorry to learn about that.
Ulrich ... I was just reading about your election in 3 days. I got confused with so many political parties. Glad you are doing well. Hope you have time to keep in touch with us!
Dave ... Nice of you to visit the Diner to express kudos to Jeff.
Jeff ... Thanks for your time serving as moderator.
JohnBoy .... I hope your appointment went well, and I hope you will have the needed operation soon.
Too much "other stuff" today, and there was little progress om the layout.
Smile! Be Happy!
morning coffee in the diner...
GOOD THURSDAY MORNING!!!

Today's fun limerick:

Who smiled as she rode on a tiger.
Came back from the ride
With the lady inside,
And the smile on the face of the tiger!

Thank you very much Jeffery for your time and efforts.
jeffrey-wimberly...so I'm just one of the regulars here...
Dr. Frankendiesel just a regular I think not, too special for that.
Todd I hope Brenda is on the improve, it sounds that someone needs to keep you on your toes., good luck for her giving up smoking, it''s Darn hard but not impossible.

Jeffrey- Welcome back to regular Joe status! Kinda like retiring. Sorry to hear you gave up the moderator gig, but….I think I see why. Thanks for the service to the forum, you were a good moderator. Fair across the board.
Galaxy- Welcome back, didn’t really mention your absence because you told us your monitor was going bye bye so we kinda figured that's what happened. But I did miss your posts, cause like Bill’s I use that as a calendar post. The style you post in on the morning posts, jumps out as a new day. Kinda like a book mark.
Looks like we have a couple poets in here!
Ulrich- Thanks, Brenda is doing real real good. I’m sittin on this side of the pond with fingers and toes crossed for you on Saturday!!!
JaBear- So far she’s doin ok on the smoking though she says it’s getting tougher.
Welp, we went to “my” Chinese buffet yesterday and things went well. Hostess lady was happy, at least that what she say….”I’m so happy you bring her”. I tell her I bring her on weekends when she’s not at work, but that doesn’t seem to register. Today, I think I shall go to fast food place and demonstrate the economics of me going to the buffet for lunch as opposed to fast food. Not to mention the health benefits, the amount and of course the salt and pepper squid . Plus, I really doubt the girl at the drive-up at McDonald’s or any fast food restaurant for that matter, will take my trash, wipe my chin and wash my hands for me. Possible, but I doubt it. United Statsians, just seem to have a different view of what their job is....... Even though my wife didn't respond, I'm glad she's on blood pressure medicine to keep the pressure lower.
Things go back to normal at w*rk tonight. Back to the kitchen . Back to the dungeon. The trenches. I’ll have to admit I had probably the best week up there yet. Or as she said "just the BEST week Eh-VEEEEER!!" I actually enjoyed it. Ah well, memories…..hm. I think there’s a song in there somewhere…..
Got TOP. Eat up boys and girl!!

Todd, THAT is EXACTLY my intention in making it so OBVIOUS that a new day has arrived!! AND to "WAKE " everyone UP when they see it in the AM!!
Jeffrey..to whom will I now complain about things on here? Harumph! How COULD you resign?
Well, went to Wally world this AM already. GOT MOH new slip resistant shoes for work...now did I get the right sze is the thing?! They have men's wpmens and unisex ones. Since MOH works in the grocery store, states "I need slip resistant shoes"! SO, Now...we will see...probably should have bought BOTH sizes I think it is, and then taken one pr back! Picky Picky!
well, nothing but vacuuming planned I gues..well laundry can be going too while I vacuum.

Good morning. It's 75° with 94% humidity. The high will be 92° but will feel like 99°. with a Think I'll take a break today. I need some rest. I got some good exercise this morning. Laying flat on my back I lifted (with my left arm) the front half of a 700+ pound mechanical bed (Craftmatic wannabe) about six inches to clear a cable for the motor that raises and lowers the head of the bed while I shifted a concrete block the frame was resting on with my right. Is that some kind of bench press? When I say I'm a strong guy I'm not joking. Actually I'm very out of shape. My arm aches a little but other than that I feel fine. Now you may be asking yourself, why is there a concrete block under the bed? Actually there's four of them. The bed was too low for my needs so I had my nephew and one of his friends put the blocks under it to raise it about six inches. It took the bigger of those two to dead lift one end while the other put the blocks under it. What does that say for their build? Well the two blocks near the head of the bed were more toward the middle. One still is but at least the bed doesn't rock anymore. If I have to I'll go under the other side and exercise my right arm.Well enough of that. Time to get on with the day. The Home Health nurse will be here some time today. She should be well pleased with how well the surgery site has healed. The only spot left is where a bit of tape made a nasty tear in the skin. That too is just about healed up. However she won't be happy about the first two toes on my left (only) foot. The big toe has a wound on the bottom we've been dealing with for several weeks. The other, well last week I ran into the bathroom cabinet and ripped the toenail off. I didn't know it until I investigated to see where the blood was coming from. It was healing quite well until last night. I hit the cabinet again and ripped the scab off.
