LSWrr

I hope they switch back to the old forums format, this is like a step backwards in technology and really isn’t that fun to post with.

I agree completely.

Good morning, afternoon whatever. It's 84, humid, partly cloudy and sticky here. The high will be 90 with a heat index of 94.

Been working on the Peerless tractor all morning in preparation for removing the tranny. I was supposed to have help from my nephew on this but he evidently has better things to do as he never showed. I did as much as I could alone then packed up my tools. It's gotten to the heavy lifting stage and very few parts on that thing are light. If I can get his help I'll go back and work on it some more.

Hello! It is good to see everybody!

LSWrr

I hope they switch back to the old forums format, this is like a step backwards in technology and really isn’t that fun to post with.

Lee ... I also don't care for many of the changes. I think it would help if we explain what we do not like and why. I don't really care to have it broadcasted if I am logged in to the forum, an. I don't see why they put the "who is on line" box in the side. .... Feel free to tell what you do not like. .... On the other hand, I think there may have been some technical improvements to the forum, and I think Kalmbach should explain them. We might be more appreciative if they were not keeping it a secret.... I think Kalmbach should have surveyed the forum members in advance of changing things to find out what would be desired.

Ulrich.... It's always good to see you. We all care about you. Take care.

Sue .. Perhaps you can post a photo of Larry's painting.

We returned from our trip and it was good to see people in the family. The 93rd b'day celebration for my Mother was great! .... I'm still not feeling right. By now I should. I keep thinking next day will be okay again.

Last evening I worked on one of my Bachmann streetcars. It still needs more work. The Peter Witt model has great detail and looks great. However, the mechanism is way too flimsy in my opinion. It's hard to work on it.

Meanwhile, my GE 44T project is on hold. The first decoder was defective, and I sent it back for warrantee replacement. This is another Bachmann flimsy mechanism.

One more Bachmann model in trouble is my "doodlebug" gas electric motor car. Yet another Bachmann flimsy mechanism. This one needs new wheelsets, and they are not sold by Bachmann parts department.  Instead they have a complete power truck listed, but it is out of stock.  I see Northwest Short Line does sell a replacement power truck for this model, and I am considering it along with a high price.

Cheers

Got an Athearn 50' double door boxcar in the mail today. It looks nice except that the doors are glued in the open position. Looks like a setup for the great Waldo Pepper to fly his plane through. Right now it's 'parked' on the track at the engine house with a cargo of double sided adhesive strips in it. No doubt in my mind that the previous owner is a smoker.

It's going to mostly cloudy here but the weather guesser says no rain. Maybe I'll be able to work on the tractor again tomorrow. I'm still hurting from slaving on this morning. Those nuts and bolts have been on it for over fifteen years and a bunch of them didn't want to come off. I'd go to pulling on one and it wouldn't budge then when it did it came loose like POW! I wouldn't know if I'd loosened it or snapped it off until I lifted the wrench out of the way. A lot are 1/2", 9/16" and 3/4" but some require a wrench bigger than one inch. I'll be glad when I finish with that! Of course the real fun is going to be putting it back together!

Got the doors on that boxcar loosened so they can be closed now.

Problem is these nuts and bolts are located in tight spaces where an impact gun can't get to.

Ohh that is a problem.

Can you get a breaker bar and then "cheater" bar on it to give you more leverage or still to tight for that?

I can get a cheater pipe to some of them but on most it requires a whole lot of upper body strength. This tractor is a riding mower type but it's not small by any means. It weighs over half a ton and I'm not giving any part of it a chance to hit me or fall on me. Been there, done that, got the T-shirt!

Hey all. Sunday I went to the Children's Museum of Oak Ridge for an open house of the MRR club that is housed there. Nice HO and N scale layouts. They do operations a couple times a month as well as work weekends. I may try to hit them up over the next couple of months if I can without joining.

Does anyone know or have saved the blog site for a guy that used to post some pics and videos of his railroad on WPF. I think his name was Ty or Tyler. He is building a new railroad and I want to check his blog. Thanks in advance.

Just one of those things you have to do with nothing but a ratchet and elbow grease. Does spraying any penetrating lubricant on it help? like PB Blaster? that stuff works great.

I tried WD40 and PB Blaster. Seems it didn't do squat.

I thought about that but there's too many belts and wires around. The wires look like a road map and I'm not even going to try figuring that out.

Evenin' folks!

Janie just my usual cup of decaf for the moment.  I'll be in the back booth resting for a bit.

Got a bit done on the layout today.  Installed a Fast Tracks Turnout, put another coat of Latex Rubber on the mold, and finished up some more trackage going to the upper staging.  My son called early this afternoon and wanted me to come over and help him learn how to put up the old family camping tent I gave to him several years back.  This is a huge canvas tent that can sleep 8 or 12 I think.  We bought it soon after we moved to Geneva 30 years ago, and I used it camping with the Boy Scouts for many years after the boys were grown and my wife had passed away.  Still in great shape, but appears to be missing one pole.....  Hopefully he can get one made.  It can be put up by one person although it goes much faster if 2 or 3 are helping.  Good to see it will be used again.

Tonight I went to Hammondsport to participate in an operating session.  I ran a passenger train first and then a freight delivering a train to the main yard returning with a different consist back to staging.  Everything went well and I had a great time as always.

Jeffrey, give the PB Blaster some time to work.  I bet most of the problem nuts will break free in a couple days.  The stuff is great!  I used it to free up the Reese Hitch on the truck a couple years ago.  It was completely rusted in, but after a couple weeks of adding more PB Blaster and waiting, it finally slid out.  WD-45 is worthless!

Hope you all have a great night!

 Evening Dinners

Flo, I take a beer pleases.

Jeffery. With all the times we have traded, why did you bring up this time my stuff stinks? (box car came from me) I am hoping it is your way to try to encourage me with my quest of stop smoking. To be honest it hurt my feelings and P me off at the same time. While I was at the hospital I was told that it is as hard to stop smoking as it is to get of cocaine.

If we trade again, do I need to wash what I am trading first in Mouth Wash? Laugh Hope I just smoked my last real Cigarette as I posted this.I am officially out of smokes.

Sorry Jeffery for the rant, just rubbed me the wrong way tonight.

You weren't trying to quit before. Now you need all the incentives you can get. Nicotine is sixty times more addictive than heroin and even harder to kick. It's important to have all the support you can get even if it does get you PO'd. You're getting a pretty good idea of what I went through when I quit around seventeen years ago, and I didn't use any gimmicks. I went from two and half / three packs a day to nothing in two weeks cold turkey. If I could do it you can too.

Ken: It wasn't my intent to tick you off. It was however my intent to give you another reason to quit smoking. Your friends care about your health.

Time for me to call it a late night. I had a talk with my nephew today and hopefully I got through to him that I need his help tomorrow. We'll see if he shows up in the morning. It's important that we get the back of the tractor up on blocks so the tranny can be dropped. I'll need his help for that too. See y'all tomorrow.

Good Morning All,

 59F, 87% humidity, Hi today 80F.

I should have worn a jacket to work.

Farmer’s Almanac predicts a normal amount of snowfall and normal temperatures for my area this winter.  I’m not sure I believe them since right now it should be hot and miserable like it was in July.

Garry,

1. I don’t like the fact I lose all the formatting from MS-Word when I post.

2. I do miss the when someone joined and how many posts they have posted

3. Every ones location information is gone

4.  When I post the post shows up out of order until I come back later.

5. Why is the very first post at the top?

Maybe I’m just getting old and reluctant to change.

James, happy birthday!  Let’s see where I was 23 years ago; I was stationed at USCG Station Marblehead, OH with 2 years in service, married for 1 year, and in November of 1989 I had just advanced to Boatswains’ Mate Third Class.  September of that year my daughter was born. And I was 23 years old living in a 15’x 75’ mobile home I had recently bought.

Lots of functionality went missing here...even though my control bar has the icons for fonts and colour and such..hardly any of them work for me.

Extra mouse clicking...have to go from first post to last post via last page...

We've gone backwards in terms of location and such...now we are truly an undifferentiated mass....

More gripes to come....Bang HeadDead

Good Morning...

How do you like all the sun we have been getting?

It is sunny and a high of 77F feeling like 84F today...

Going to get some housework done today including laundry, cleaning the storage area..I mean...garage up a bit...

Have a good day!!

Good Afternoon!

It is well past lunchtime here, so I´ll just have a mug of coffee and a sweet roll, Janie, please.

Happy B-Day - James! 23? That makes you 33 years younger than me - well not really, there 4 days missing in the count. All the best wishes!

Barry - all forums are loaded with comments, rants and gripes about the new forum software. I have to admit that I don´t fancy it either, but I will be getting used to it after a little while. Performing my moderator´s task has also changed slightly. I find it less comfortable than before. Post count is a valuable information. A member with a fairly high count may be less likely to slip by the rules. AFAIK, they are still working on it, and a number of things will be back soon.

Ken - the most important issue when you stop smoking is that you really want it. The need for nicotine actually goes away pretty quickly (three days), but the bad habit stays on much longer. I am not sure, but IMHO, those electronic cigarettes just make that ordeal longer. Set yourself a target, save up the money you would have spent on cigarettes up to that date, and reward yourself with a goodie - maybe that loco you always wanted to have.. Pulling for you that you´ll make it!

It´s a hot and humid day again, so I am not up to much. I have to drink a lot, and that´s still an awkward and painful experience when I have to reverse the process.

Have a good one!

Good morning, Chloe.  I will have my usual black coffee, please.

I will  post Larry's painting when he finishes it.

Lee,  Yes, you are right, who has the time.  Laugh The swimming is to stretch out the sore muscles that I get from climbing.  I usually climb on Monday and Wednesday evenings at the indoor rockgym.  All of my other hobbies I do in spurts.   I work 2-3 days a week so that allows play time.  You are right, too many hobbies, not enough time.

Garry,  We like the NWSL kits.  They do a nice upgrade.  However, we have not done business with them since they left Seattle.

Welllllllllll, I guess I should get moving.  I work today.  LaughLaughLaugh  And I need to get gas, so  I can climb outside tomorrow if there isn't too much water in the air.

Sue

I see Tropical Storm Isaac might turn into a hurricane by tomorrow.  I hope everyone down south is prepared for this event.  I see the news reports the CG is pre-deploying units and making preparations to move into the area with reinforcements.

Sue that might be the answer to my GF’s issues, only working 2-3 days a week so she has time for other things;  She has been working 48-52 hours a week and on her days off she tends to sleep a lot.  I made the mistake of buying her one of those can crushers for her recycling hobby and she was so involved with that she lost track of time and I didn’t see her yesterday on her day off.

Ulrich, I hope they work the bugs out of the improvements.  I thought the former software was working just fine so I don’t understand the need for an upgrade.  One should not try to improve perfection one should strive to perfect improvement.

Good Morning!!!

Coffee and some of them Thai BBQ riblet things and white rice please. Thanks.

Sunny, with a high near 89. Like everyone, we’ve been having cooler than usual days. Today’s getting back closer to norm.

ULRICH!!!- Boy you had us all worried. Glad to see you’re home and super glad to hear the word “benign”. AngelYou rest and take care of yourself. Stop in as you feel like it. I have very little worthwhile stuff to say myself, but like G, I manage somehow to find something to sayWhistling Laugh. If they aren’t interested, they just skip on to the next post. Some are, some aren’t. Hey, at least in here there are no complaints from the patrons about wasted bandwidth and jabbering about nothing. We all know one doesn’t represent everyone. What one may not find interesting, others may. Kinda like modeling. Probably why we all get along.

Speaking of Thai, found this little place across the street sorta cattywhompish from the Chinese buffet that all have been talking about. Brenda and I decided to go there Monday night. Looks like the buffet will be taking a back seat to this place. It was delicious. And Garry, they spoke perfect English.Laugh Not even an accent. They serve a variety of things and priced very reasonable. Not big on Thai food so that’s why it took so long for us to go. The peanut and coconut thing not real hot on the taste buds and no one can do hot like the Taiwanese. WhoaSurprise. So we got brave and said “what the heck. We can’t live forever” Besides Brenda is getting a little sniffy about the Chinese girlsEmbarrassed. Specially since the wrong drink episode of a couple weeks ago. Suki too friendly. Suki not Brenda’s favorite no.  Funny though, this new Thai place…., is run by Vietnamese. Which is also kinda scarry cause a buddy of mines wife is full blown born in the motherland Vietnamese and I know what she eatsIck!. Some things you can’t even get past the smellDead.

Ken-  Now Jeff speaks what we call “tough love”. I’ve known several people who were heavy smokers for yeeeears and now do not. Rough? Yes. Cranky? Oh you bet (well one wasn’t). Each had, oddly, a different way they went about it. One just cold turkey. Are they glad they quit? Every one of them.  Oh and  by the way, Doctor told Brenda Lemon takes the crave away for a bit. Grab some sugar free lemon drops. My preference is Lemon Heads though they are sugar bombs probably. Maybe they make them sugar free.

Bad news…..Grass needs mowedSigh. I will do that today I suppose. See if the mower starts. Still w**king on that list of piddly things. Checked the order status on the shower door, est ship date is the 23. Then supposed to be 3 to 5 days I guess til it shows up at the store.

Progressing nicely, that is to say slow, on the Cantonese. Not bad I guess considering the only person I can practice on is the dog. She tries to be helpful. Having the most trouble with the tones. In addition to having to know a word for a word, you have to know how to say it. Saying a word in a high tone may mean you want water, saying the same word in a mid tone could mean you want the waiter dead. Bad thing by the way. Especially in a restaurant. Good news is sentence structure I guess is the sameish, they just don’t have any words that mean nothing like “the” “at” “a”. You know all the words they leave out when they speak that make them so…Hmm..ethnic sounding.

Welp, gonna put a new faucet in the hall bath. Yes I know it’s done, but Brenda, my wife, don’t know if I’ve ever mentioned her, has now decided she wants a new faucet after allConfused. You know what that means. Yup, trip to Menard’s around noon and…..

Ulrich, I hope they work the bugs out of the improvements.  I thought the former software was working just fine so I don’t understand the need for an upgrade.  One should not try to improve perfection one should strive to perfect improvement.

Lee - I think that did the move to please the smart phone crowd. Apparently, the new software works better with those devices than the old one. Like with all new programs, we´ll have to do the beta testing Smile, Wink & Grin

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I'll have a short stack of Blueberry pancakes with real maple syrup, side order of breakfast sausage, and lots of dark roast coffee in my R&GV RR mug please.

Yep!  You got it Ulrich...  The whole web is going in THAT direction these days.  Those of us who prefer to use a computer rather than a one size fits all and does everything (poorly) "Ronco" device are now considered irrelevant.  Maybe corporations figured out we (on old fashioned computers) don't have to pay a huge monthly anytime, anywhere, except under most all conditions fee to be able to text and drive at the same time and so figure there is more money to be made by catering to those who think they need to be connected 25 hours a day?  OK, Vinnie, soap box is put away!

Another nice cool morning here in the Finger Lakes.  Currently 71°F on its way up to the mid 80s by mid afternoon.

I have several things to get accomplished today, so I best get moving... Ken do not buy more cigarettes!  Ya hear!  Smile, Wink & GrinLaugh

Later!
