Exactly right. I had to take that up with my father. Who's going to tend to her? Who's going to keep her clean? Who's going to prepare her meals? I tried to do that when she was bedridden previously and I ended up in the hospital because of it. Not again

Yes and the keeping clean part brings in a whole other um....modesty isn't the exact word I'm looking for but you get what I mean, issue when it's a Mother/ son. Some are not but many are and I don't mean in a nasty way. I know Brenda had to take care of certain issues with my Mom. You don't have that option.

As for the unusual in your roster....., well the unusual is almost the usual.Laugh

What I was wondering that anybody had noticed in my photo this morning was the presence of a GE U25B cab. It looks a bit out of place on an EMD GP7, even if it has been somewhat modified to a GP9.

Of course, asking if anybody sees something unusual or different on my locos (with a few exceptions) could be viewed as a trick question since almost all my locos differ from the standard.

 Morning Dinners

 Flo, Diet Dew Pleases.

Go into work today at 2:00 AM, looks like I am the closer again. Oh well, someone has to do it. I have been getting Saturdays off as of late, wondering if I will be this Saturday.

Blood Sugar Wars Now I did go to bed a lot earlier last night than normal with me being off Thursday. Think I went to bed around 9:00 PM. When I work, I go to bed around midnight or 1:00 AM. Reason I brought it up was today at 9:00 AM I checked my Sugar Level. I have been having readings in the 170 range when I get up. Today it was only 147. While still high, way better than what I have been having.

Had 1 pieces of Whole Wheat Toast and 2 fried eggs for breakfast. Check my Sugar 2 hours later, it was 150. Well that is a small victory.

Lee Target levels would be between 70 and 120.

Curt, I thought you all ready had a PR3 from your reply in my JMRI post.

 I see you all later.

Nevada Paul,

The fuses in my power supply out by the unit in my back yard, usually die at least once a year,You can buy a couple of new ones for about $10 at home depot etc. (worth a try) if you have them. Also I thought I would mention to you that my a/c system has a small plastic box that sits on the floor next to the furnace It has some pvc pipes hooked to it and there is a pump inside that pumps the moisture from the system to the sewer. every now and then the switch or what ever is inside the box sticks and shuts off the unit in the back yard. I give it a good shake and it has allways started working again. if your system has one you might try it? It would probably make things a little better for your wife.

Evening All,

Had kind of a busy day today. Had my final appointment with the Surgeon. Went up and observed Jon working on a customers layout (he does excellent work). Came home and removed all the wiring under the layout for all the Tortoises I have removed. It probably took 30 hours to wire up but 2 hours to take apartSigh. After all this I was emailed from work to come in on Monday with food and clothing for a 72 hour hold over if the storm hits us, so off to Wally World I went.

Terry- I know I have said it before but thank you for your sons service and I say prayers for his safe keeping.

Ken- I was holding off buying the PR-3 until I met with the club guy but I don't know when that is going to happen. I received notice the PR-3 I ordered has been shipped.

Paul- I continue to say prayers for YOH.

Jeff- I hope everything works out with your Mom.

Barry- Hope you got the news you wanted with the bone scans.

Ulrich- The color change makes sense.

Darren- My surgeon just got back from a Alaska cruise and she was gushing about it.

Ray- More pictures of your progress please.

About all I accomplished today on the layout was to make the rear headlight on one of my GP7's light all the time whether it's running forward or backward. It's the last loco in a three loco consist (GP7 SHF (short hood forward)-GP35 LHF-GP7 SHF. The light flashes when the consist runs forward and lights steady when the consist runs backward. I may do the same on the other GP7 on the front headlight so it lights steady going forward and flashes when running backward. My only other accomplishment today was going to town and putting $20 worth of gas in the van.

Time for me to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.

Evenin' folks!

Janie, just a decaf right now.  Thanks!

Stayed pretty busy today.  W*rked on the mailbox issue...  Then put another turnout on the fast tracks ties and later installed it on the layout.

Then went over to Mabel's house.  She was the official Mother to all of us in the Fine and Practical arts dept. at the Middle School years ago.  We shortened her name a bit and dubbed her "Ma".  She and her husband own a piece of land across from their house that had a limb get struck by lightning about a month ago.  She has been pestering me to come over, cut it up and haul it away for firewood.  So this afternoon I went over there and cleaned it up for her.  I'll get a couple days worth of heat out of it, and then she gave me two jars of freshly made blueberry jam, a couple of Polish Cabbage Rolls, a peach, and a quart bag of freshly picked blueberries.  Did I mention Ma used to teach Home and Careers (cooking was one of her areas) and she is a magnificent cook even in her 80's now.  I think I got the best part of the deal...  Her husband used to teach Social Studies and was a basketball coach at one time.  Both of them are total characters.  I enjoy being around them.

After consuming the most excellent cabbage rolls for supper, I headed back down to the layout (after unloading the pickup truck) and finished wiring the staging area.  Here is a photo of the almost finished area.  Curt, ask and thou shalt receive!

Other photos are over in the WPF thread.

Sure hope Barry made out well today and got good news!

Prayers for all in need!  Have a great night everyone!

 Evening Dinners

Flo, where is everybody been?  Well I will drink alone because I am Bad To The Bone. Whistling Well if you get past the fat! Laugh

Curt, do you have a SEB Digitrax System or a Zephyr? Reason I ask is did you order the PR 14 power supply for the PR 3? In the stand alone mode (Programing) your PR 3 will need the power supply. I have not tried program yet with my PR 3 hooked to the DB 150 yet. But to run the throttles I do not have to use it. I will give it a try Saturday and I will let you know.

On some sound engines, you may need extra power to the programing rails to read and write CV's in stand alone mode. In my case I can read all my QSI, Loksound and Blue Line decoder except 1. Will not read or write to my Blue Line GE AC 6000, yet it works with my RSD 15?  I will try the GE AC 6000 Saturday hooked to my Loconet settings and let you know.

Well I am off Saturday, so I will see you all latter.

Morning Coffee in the Diner

GOOD MORNING!!!

bill has provided the date

The weekend is here!!!

Hoo Rah!!!

Make it a GREAT day!!!

To be caught red-handed means that you have been caught in the act of doing something illegal. No excuses or alibi’s can be used, as your transgression is obvious, visible and undeniable. Usually related to stealing, with the stolen goods in your possesion.
To be caught in this way has a legal term “in flagrante delicto”, which loosely translated means “in the progressing misdeed”. Therefore you are caught while you are doing something you should not be doing.
The most common origin for the term red-handed is Scottish, (circa 1400ad), specifically related to poaching. In order to punish a poacher the legal system had to have undeniable proof the accused was guilty. After killing and skinning an animal, the poacher would have blood on his hands, and this would be the necessary proof required. Poacher was caught red hand, i.e. with blood on his hands.
This expression has evolved to red-handed.

It is also believed in modern times to stem from Bank robbery, where the "dye money pack" COULD be red in color {or purple, green etc} and when released after the robber absconds with the money, the dye pack goes off and stains the robbers hands, thusly making them red..and so "caught red-handed" meant he had the dye on his hands.{or she}, proving guilt.

Have a GREAT day!!!

Gday folks...

I've not touched the layout for about a month due to a lack of time, but I've also become a little bored with it. I've been studying it over the last few days and I've decided to start over.

I've been looking at plans for the space I have and I'm going with a version of the project layout 'The Salt Lake Route' I'm going to use mostly the same track plan with a few minor changes on the Caliente side. The main advantage is it will be a double track main which for my Modern trains is a must.

The main reasons for the change are the fact I've grown bored with the design, the benchwork needs to be built better (It's over engineered!!) And the fact I used Code 80 has bugged me from day one. Plus it's always nice for a change.

Tomorrow I will start packing up the rolling stock and then begin with the staging yard tear down and then carefully remove all 350 trees, buildings and salvage as much track as possible to use for displaying my excess stock.

I will then next week go get some new supplies to start construction in the next week or two.  So there you go. Smile

Off to bed for me.

JaBear:  Thanks for the photos. That model looks like what was known as "D Model" many years ago. It was used as a slick and carried troops and cargo. The only weapons would have been door mounted M-60 machine guns. Huey's will see service throughout the world for many years, just as the old C-47's did. A simple but very durable and rugged aircraft. It was an extremely interesting and rewarding experience.

PA Tom

Gidday All.

Tom, ZX is a "D" not sure about YG, its a recent acquisition and an oddball in the fleet. An early refurbishment on another "Huey" showed upon paint stripping the "olive drab" that the "Huey had obviously received battle field damage from the repairs carried out.

I presume that all "Hueys" had the spent cartridge case shutes in the cabin floor adjacent to the front quarter doors and armament  wiring fitted as a matter of course by the factory. Part of the full refurbishment is stripping out the redundant wiring, nearly fills a 44 gal drum (Imperial), which is when I discovered the armament loom.

What's this got to do with model railroading ?? Well some of the redundant 22 gauge armament wire  has  been used as rail feeds on the local club HO American portable logging layout.

And as PA Tom mentioned another iconic American aircraft, there's an excuse for  a photo.

Thoughts and Best Wishes to All who need them.

Cheers,the Bear.

Garry,  How do you keep the Burlington loco so white?

Is everyone going to air shows?

Bear:  During the mid 60's, there were only 3 models of Huey's being flown.  B, C, & D models. The D model had a different body style, being longer with 2 windows in the the main cargo door, plus the little door between the pilot and co-pilot doors and the main cargo doors. The only collection system for spent brass I ever saw on a "D Model" was a canvas bag that mounted on the gun. It wasn't all that big as I recall. As improvements were made, model designation changed, but the basic appearance remained the same.

The "B" & "C" models were basically used as gun ships, with the newer "C" models having a larger engine, and other beefed up components. They had only one large window in the cargo door. I just don't remember if there was a collection system at that time for the mini guns which were mounted on exteriour pylons. I don't think there was. There was an ammo chute to each gun, but it was a feeding system. Crew Chiefs and door gunners on gun ships would each have a hand held M-60 machine gun as well, but those casings were just ejected in the air stream. Surprisingly, I don't remember casings hitting the tail rotor to be much of a problem.  Tom

Good morning. Temp-76°, humidity-93%, there's a fair chance of rain, high-85°, heat index-94°.

Nothing much planned for today. I have some cleanup work to do on the layout after my lighting project on the other GP7 last night. I didn't get the exact effect I wanted as the decoders CV50 register won't accept changes. I've had several DZ125's that had lighting problems right out of the package. But I wanted the front headlight to work in forward and reverse and now it does. Problem is it stays on no matter what even if I turn the loco lights off. Oh well, I can live with that.

Our rainy day has begun. Just had a heavy shower pass through on it's way north. The radar shows lots more ugly weather down south moving this way. Glad I didn't have any outdoor projects planned. Looks like today's activities will be taking place while I'm ducking thunderstorms.

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I'll have a short stack of blueberry pancakes using the fresh picked local blueberries I brought in, leave the bottle of NYS Dark Amber Maple Syrup, bring a side order of bacon and lots and lots of dark roast coffee to wake me up this morning!  Please and Thank You, Ma'am...

Currently 82°F under sunny skies here in the Finger lakes.  Looking for a high around 87°F this afternoon.  Air conditioners are on and earning their keep right now.  Sure wish the Solar Electric was on the roof so I could run them with THAT...  Couple more weeks I guess before it will be all hooked up and producing electricity for me.

Jeffrey, stay dry!

Wonder how Barry is doing?

I think I will spend much of the day in the train rooms although I do need to go grocery shopping later today.

Catch you all later!

Good Morning!!!

Coffee and the breakfast scramble please. Thanks.

Mostly sunny and hot, with a high near 95.

Just popped in for a breakLaugh. Getting a slow start today. Didn’t do much of anything yesterday other than w**k at job. I could have gone down and started on the layout room like I’ve been saying, but alas I just plopped my bottom in the chair and didn’t move.Whistling

Today Brenda is home and I will probably get more done today than all week due to the fact I want her to see I’m doing somethingLaugh. I’m sure she’s noticed that more gets done in the two days than all week so she’s got a pretty good idea of what goes on some days.

Garry- myah. Brenda knows all I say here. She may not actually read it, but she knows about it. Many times I’ll refer to some story I told. She just shakes her head. She’s not really into socializing this way. Face to face, or on the phone. That’s her way. Says you can't hear their voice, see there face, their gestures. She can't tell how to take what someone's saying which I understand. She tried Facebook and notice I used the word tried. Now she just plays the games on the thing.

I guess that's what she's doing. Unless she's got one of those internet love things going onLaugh

Welp best get started before lunch.

Ya’ll have a good day!!!!

Afternoon All,

Just got done pulling weeds in the front flower bed, at least the ground was soft from all the rain. Plan on going to the club later. Looking at the Natl hurricane website this morning and I'm glad  I don't live in Pensacola. I don't think I will need it this time around but I have everything together for a 72 hour hold over at w**k. It looks like major rain and wind for the next 3 days and I go back to w***k tomorrow.

Ken- I have the Zephyr Xtra (3.0 amp). I have about a dozen sound locos all kept on the layout (RH area)  and have had no power issues. Initially I just plan to run it in a stand alone mode so I need the power supply. I am the only one that operates on the layout so I don't need any extra throttles at this point (have 2).

Ray- Looking good. Are you going to have 2 separate levels or is the upper staging just  on a elevated section of the layout?

Hope everyone has a good day and prayers ffor those in need.

Good late morning All,

Right now 75 with an expected high of 95, so not too bad.

Thanks for all the suggestions regarding my a/c. I tried what I could and nothing seems to work, so I will wait for the repair guy to show up MondaySigh

Also thanks for all the suggestions regarding getting nurishment into my wife. Tried all those too with no success. So on Thursday night after talking to the doc, I suggested she get back to the hospital for some IV nurishment. All concerned agreed. So off to the ER we went. They did admit her and I got home around 2:00AM yesterday. She seemes to be doing better with the IV. Trying to get her strength up.

I am off to the hospital, and if she kicks me out after a few hours, I may be back home and weather some tracks. I need some distraction from all the real world stuff going on.

  Prayers to all.

Evening, no wait Afternoon all. Pretty dark outside so must have rain coming.

 Flo, Beer Pleases.

Paul, Angel for your wife. Hope her condition improves soon!

Face Book Brings Nothing But Troubles! Sue decided to look up some old friends we had when we where 22 to 25 years old. There name is Bob and Susie. I meet Bob at work, he had a 1971 Road Runner, and with me having my 1968 Road Runner we became friends. We became close friends and went out as couples for a few years. One night while Sue (my wife) and I where at there house Bob want to talk to me in the garage. Thinking it was about cars, sounded good to me. When we where alone Bob asked me if I wanted to swap? He was not talking about Road Runner's! Whistling When we went in, his wife asked me "What do you think of the idea"? After that our friendship, well came to a close.

Want to guess who is coming down next weekend to visit? Whistling Susie is coming down, Bob is not. I had offered to break something off last time we spoke.

I have told Sue the story, she does not believe me, I am all-wise wrong after all.

 Well See you all later.

Guess who's coming to dinner!

Once in a while somebody from my past turns up, usually somebody I didn't like.

Had dinner with my father today. Hamburgers and potato chips. Boy my blood sugar numbers are gonna through the roof!

Didn't like the second GP7 running short hood forward so I moved the dual wired LED to the front and changed CV29 to change the direction to long hood forward. Then had to change CV49 and CV50 to swap the light effects. The flash effect is an EOT light but I like the way it looks.

Hey guys, I ain't dead yet. Can't get anything for trade-in on the sack of bones I was given anyway Big Smile

I started college Monday, and well I learnt something very important.

I HATE COLLEGE!

Sorry Flo, didn't mean to rattle everything in here. Long story short, I got a week's worth of work dumped on me and I have 2 days to do it. What class? None other than my long time standing favorite, English. I have a five thousand word paper due friday of next week, and I have some rather pointless thing where I don't even know what I'm doing due Sunday. Why? I don't bloody know.

I was given a offer for a job as a pipefitter apprentice, so I may take that after I talk to a friend who works for the CN tomorrow. Depending I may just drop out completely. The only reason I even went is to learn a trade. Last time I looked, I wanted to weld. Not write papers on a absurd deadline. I have work I have to do to pay for this (Insert expletive of your choice) pain.

Probably worth while noting that I am a hands on person. Trial by fire, School of hard knocks. On the Job training. That is how I learn and excel. It may (Probably is) be just me, but why anyone would want to spend more time in school than doing something else is beyond me. And don't get me started on the prices oi. SoapBox

Hey, what am I doing up here?

Just thought I'd check in. I'll be in the back corner booth

If you can read this... thank a teacher. If you are reading this in english... thank a veteran

When in doubt. grab a hammer.

If it moves and isn't supposed to, get a hammer

If it doesn't move and is supposed to, get a hammer

If it's broken, get a hammer

If it can't be fixed with a hammer... DUCK TAPE!
