TSF: Good luck with the job offer. You'd probably be better of sticking with the college. I didn't and I didn't get very far.

Evenin' folks!

Janie, just a cup of decaf for me.  Thanks!

Mr. Teen Steam...  Welcome to the world of pre-adulthood!  Looks to me you were given a week to do a couple days worth of writing. Yep, in college they expect a bit more of you.  No more, "you seem to be a nice kid, you get an A".  Don't mean to sound harsh, but all of us who went and got degrees had the same shock.  Gets much worse when you get to Masters and PHD!  Stick with it.  It does get easier.  Many profs like to to employ "Shock and Awe" strategy at the beginning which makes the hard stuff seem easier later.  Don't give up!  You can do it and it will make a difference for the rest of your life.  (You might become the boss of other welders...  They call it management, and they like to see the degree...)

I have an official major backache...  Overdid big time today, but got a lot done.  The mailbox situation is more than half done.  I couldn't believe it when I went over to 84 Lumber nearby and the guy suggested that I pick out the ones I wanted (needed a couple 1 x 4 x 8s to do the extension).  Went back to the racks and the first two i grabbed could have passed for Clear lumber not the #2 I was looking for!  One was #2 only because of a very small ding on one end.... The other had about 4 or 5 very small knots smaller than a pencil in size.  Straight as an arrow too.  This store used to known for #2 pine that used to be complete crap....  I also put down some rails in a couple locations on the layout and added another coat to the mold.  Progress, I guess...

Tonight I was sealing a couple small cracks between the new boards and the old 4 x 4 that held the mail box.  I was was sitting on the ground looking up under the thing to make sure I got it all (don't need a wasps nest in there...).  A car came to a quick stop across the street from me, the driver rolled down his window and asked if I was OK.  I said , What?  He said, "Are you alright?"  I laughed and told him what I was doing and thanked him.  Guess I must be getting to the age, huh?

Time to call it a night here too, Jeffrey.

Hope Barry is OK!

Prayers for all in need!

Howdy ...

Ray ... I'm glad somebody did stop an ask if you were okay. There are good people out there. It seems you have many do-it-yourself projects.

Sam in MS ... "Hi" back to you. Feel free to visit anytime.

TSF ... Good to see you. I suggest you take a little time to pick out a path that is best for you and then stay on it while doing your very best. College is good for you, and don't get discouraged.  Have you picked out a major field of study? .... Your friend at the railroad may have thoughts about working there. I encourage people to get railroad careers if they can. The Railroad Retirement Board pays roughly 50% more than Social Security for retirees. In any case, make sure you are on a career path you like.

Ken .... You were very wise several years ago not to get involved in goofy stuff with "friends".

Cheers, everybody.

Good morning. It's 73° with 90% humidity. There's a small chance of rain. The high will be 92° but will feel like 103°.

Nothing happening this morning. Just watching twp GP7's and a GP35 haul a train around the layout. Problem is it's going through landscapes dominated by tools and project debris. Gonna have to do something about that.

The report on my mother is that she's doing well considering the state of her health. She can sit up, feed herself, carry on a conversation, insult the nursing home employees, etc. She is not able to walk very far but is determined to try.

Good Morning All:

Jeff your right, at work I’m using IE7 and at home I have IE9 so the forum isn’t very backwards compatible.

Terry, good luck with the wedding.  I haven’t been to Eau Clair but I’ve been to Weyauwega…

Thanks Ken, I guess my blood sugar is running ok, but If start to get tremors it’s time to eat something.

First time posting with IE9 let’s see how it works….

 Morning All

 Flo, Coffee Pleases.

I was up today around 6:15, as much as I wanted I could not sleep. Main thing that got me up is my right hip was hurting. Getting old sucks.

Have to be at work at 11:00 AM and should get out around 6:00 PM.

Seems we have some Lightning coming are way today.

My plain for this coming weekend, avoid and keep my mouth shut!

 See You latter. Ken

Good morning, Chloe.  Coffee and a cinnamon roll, please.

Nice photo, Ken.

Ray,  You make me feel guilty.  We need to cut more wood before the weather hits.  We have enough cut to fill the wood shed, but need backup in case winter is longer, or we are without power again.  Maybe next weekend will be good.

We went to an Oaks Park in Portland for an office picnic yesterday.  It is an amusement park,  so never a dull moment.  They have a roller coaster that goes upside down.  Woo Hoo!  We  are resting today.

Coffee and the Sunday Breakfast buffet please. Thanks

Showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 1pm. High near 82. South wind around 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%.

Ken- IndifferentWhoa. And I thought my life was interestingly touchy. Apparently not. If I were you I’da probably not said anything for a few minutes thinking to myself, “did he/she really just say that? No, surely not.” Then just kinda skirt the issue by saying something lame like “uh…, no…. but thanks. I guess. No offense, but I prefer to stay in my own yard. Confused Cheese doodle?Big Smile” You’re response, however, was appropriate. In my humble opinion that is.

Nothing much planned todayHmm we’ll see what really happens.

Good Afternoon!

It´s a slow day today, lots of Umbrella and Storm, spiced up with a few Lightning.

Been watching some old movies on the Internet, right now I am annoying Petra with "Baa Baa Black Sheep", one of my favorite series of the days back when ... Too much gun noise for her.

My application for locomotive engineer´s training has been turned down, I feel a little depressed. Would have been fun.

CUL, folks!

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I'll have my usual Organic Granola Cereal with fresh blueberries sweetened with stevia and several cups of dark roast coffee in a FLGK mug.  Please and Thank You Ma'am!

Currently 76°F with a high in the low 80's this afternoon under cloudy skies today.  No rain in the forecast and I am pleased to let you all know that according to the weather channel we received no snow yesterday again...  In the Rochester news: Dansville Fatal Glider Crash, Deadly Assault on Whitney Street, Shooting on Longview Terrace, Crash on Park Ave., and Deputy Responding to Emergency Call gets Hit!  People ask me why I don't read the paper or watch the news more...

Barry, I take it the news for you was good?!

Hope you all are having a good Sunday!

Later!

Good morning to all.  I goofed friday. Didn't see that I hit T O P. SO,to make up for it, my credit card for today and tomorrow..

Jeff- Your layout is to clean. Hardly recognize it.

Been up on a ladder sawing a long tree limb that was over my roof. Its gone now. Waiting for the winds and rain to start ,worse thing is possible tornadoes. Looks like the gulf coast will be in harms way. From NW Fla. to Texas. Prayers for it not to do what we know it can. Batten down the loose things and cover the windows. Our storm shutters are all screwed down.

Wish all of you the best.

Morning All,

Currently 66 with an expected high around 91.

Sir Madog
My application for locomotive engineer´s training has been turned down

Sorry to hear your application was turned down.

I hate when I put something away for safe keeping. I have about 20 Caboose Industries ground throws from my last layout and  knew I was going to want them again so I put them where I could easily get them before other layout stuff, like  scenery material, buildings, detail parts. I can not remember where I put themBang Head  With boxes of model stuff along with other keepsakes, I have about thirty places to look in the garage, and it is HOT out there.  It may have to wait until October.

Wife is getting much needed nutrition through IV into a power port. Looks and feels better and a bit stronger.

After I finish reading the forums, I have to finish glass bedding a rifle for a friend of mine, and then off to the hospital later. So it looks like I will not get much railroading done.

Goooooooood Evening, hope all are well or as well as they can be at the moment.

I thought I'd stop by and see how many of those Soviet medals I've "won" by coming here and flapping my jaws over the past few years. Indifferent

Also, thought I'd tack up a  pic of my rude, crude, not even glued full-size (for HO) mock-up of the Illinois Central Freight Station THAT used to sit in the shadows of Quaker Oats and the 6th St. Power Station. Since drawing track plans is getting me nowhere, I've resorted to doing what I should've been doing all along: mocking up stuff, setting track pieces in place and finding out "in real time" what will or will NOT w**k.

THAT just seems a lot easier for me.

Best wishes continue for all in need, and those dealing with Isaac.

Afternoon guys

Just dropping in before Issac shows up. Been prepping the house and moving my brother's Miata indoors. Given it's a rag top and is very light (I think it's like 1,000 pounds less than my 3,400 pound mustang) we don't want it getting blown into another car. Every car that is stuck outside weighs over 3,400 lbs so hopefully they stay put.

Work has been eventful. The management changed shifts when one went to the hosptial. So I got stuck with the slack-off manager during the busy parts of the day. She's like having a 200 lbs sack of patatoes in your way at all time. When she should be working she's chatting with her guy on the work phone (I overheard something about a few grams of something, I wouldn't be suprised if it was drugs), texting, out back smoking, or in the office on the internet. No one like her because of that, and it's a wonder she still works...

As far as trains, I picked up 2 stewart sound chassis for F-units, a bag of 100 36" metal wheelsets, some scalecoat easy off paint stripper, and some other odds and ends. I've been running a 4-unit set at the club now. Ken would probably like this one, 2 Athearn Genesis F45s and 2 P2K SD45s. Each one individually would pull close to 100 cars on the level out of the box, but I managed to add a little weight to each. I'd run out of cars before figuring out how much they'd pull all together. I did run into an issue with one of the F45s, 2 of the wires I soldereded broke, so it was only picking up power from the rear truck. It also derailed the rear truck in one spot on the club layout, but I think it's the track as there is a noticable kink.

Terry, My grandparents live about 20 miles southeast of Eau Claire in Fairchild.

Ulrich, sorry to hear about your application being denied.

TSF, I never understood that about college. One has to take classes not pertaining to the choosen field. I had to take Biology, Psychology, Art, and 2 courses of English for a drafting degree. They were easy for me, but the English killed me and delayed my progress by a couple of years. What's worse was it wasn't my fault. All 3 of the different English instructors I had were at the opposite end of the political spectrum than me, and the first 2 docked my grade on the final exam/paper enough to not let me pass at the end. So by the time I found out about that, it was already in the records. The last one was the farthest from me on the spectrum, but she gave me As on my papers because I brought up a lot of facts. I think I got lucky with the 3rd for that, but I guess for College English writing the following hold true:

1. If possible, stay on the side of the political spectrum as your instructor or at least be in the middle in the papers.

2. Don't make comments about their ideological figures.

3. If you are going to go against 1 and 2, use facts that can't be disputed. I always broke my final instuctors arguements because she could never counter aside from the usual stuff when one's arguement is broken.

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

Hey Fellas, It's been a while. This has been a most difficult summer for me and my family, but I thought it was time to drop by the diner to say hi. After a long illness, my father passed away on August 10th. The strongest man I ever knew just couldn't fight anymore, and pnumonia finally took him. He was more concerned about us, I had to keep him posted on my work with the museum, and he wanted to see every painting I completed. This one became his favorite, so I hung it on the wall in his room to the end:

As my family and I move on, my focus is now on our newest museum projects, keeping my 4 sons involved, and of course painting and modeling here at home. Here is my favorite picture of Dad working at East Salamanca as a 2nd trick operator on the B&O in 1967:

Evenin' folks!

Janie, just a cup of decaf...  Oh you read my mind.  Thank you Ma'am!

Stan, I wondered what had happened to you.  Very sorry to hear of your father passing.  I do hope you are keeping the painting for yourself and to pass on down through your family.  It is always good to have thing that you made held special by someone you love.  Take care and good to have you back on board!

The mailbox has been restructured and is all back together and the post painted.  It has a new mailbox on it as well.  The old one needed to be replaced anyway, so this was a good time to do it.  Neighbor across the street was out checking it all over this afternoon....  After I'm sure what I have done is acceptable to both the post office and the city, I will make a couple other changes to add a hanging flower basket on it next year.  Hopefully next year will be the year for some major landscaping around the place.  Several smallish trees and a large rock around which I will plant strawberries (why have flowers if you can't eat them?).  I hope this fall to start a couple raised bed gardens back where my old garden was.

Also got more stuff done on the layout.  Made a few hundred more ties and installed many to almost complete the upper tracks to the Upper Staging.  Also got about 15 foot of rail in (just one side) goiung over the little bridge and to the lower staging.  If all goes well, by tomorrow night I should be able to run the first train into the lower staging.  Thumbs Up

Hope all the southern guys on here stay safe over the next few days with Isaac coming to pay a visit...

Have a good night.  Prayers for all in need!

 Evening Dinners

 Flo, Beer Pleases

Man I am beat! We closed at 6:00 PM and I got out the door around 8:00 PM. I had fair sales, but most things are heavily discounted right now and I did not make squat!

Sue, Glad you like the you like the picture. It is great if you like pink bloops in the upper left corner!

Barry, I am guessing as well it was good new's? About time we have some around here!

Stan, Great to see you back, sorry about your dad.

Vince's " 2 Athearn Genesis F45s and 2 P2K SD45s. Each one individually would pull close to 100 cars on the level out of the box" s much as I like Proto's I would have to see that! My best pulling engines where PK 2000 E 6's (not counting my PCM Y6 b) and a pair pulled 65 cars here at the house with its tight turns. Never ran out of pulling power, it was the turns that caused problems. Ever strip the Rio Grands?

Todd, more than likely I will not have anything to worry about this coming weekend, well with the way I look now! Smile, Wink & Grin Only thing I have in common with the way I looked then 6'4" and 215 pounds and now. Well I am still 6'4"! Whistling

Ulrich Sorry to hear the rejection letter! Was it because of health issues or do they ever give a reason?

 See you all later.

 Ken
