Evenin', Chloe - I'll have a butterscotch sundae and a  Rio Grande  mug of decaf, please. Thank you!

(slides into a booth and leans back...) Way too busy of a day at w**k today. Didn't get away until after 6 p.m., and no lunch break. Sigh Glad to be off this weekend (after being back there in the morning)...

Bill T., it looks like you're trying to teach us Japanese, eh? Good luck with that on some of us (like me...)!

Lee, that is one interesting story about you and Dorothy and the zoo. Wink Chuckled when you described finding out that THAT other woman was not Dorothy (but she still wanted to go out with you). Whistling Didja ever tell Dorothy about that part of the day?

Todd, I wouldn't mind being able to jump to a selected page - I was looking at the URL (the link in that text box at the top of your browser...), but the format isn't like the old format. With the old URL format, you could select the page number part, and type in your desired page and hit <Return>... But not so recognizable now. Sigh Fun time at the hardware stores, right? Smile, Wink & Grin

Paul (pascaff) - Yep, the docs think nothing of sending a person here and there across the country (but then again, they have more 'disposable funds' than us mere mortals, methinks...Whistling Hopefully, you and your wife can get things lined out without tons o'travelling needed. AngelAngel

LSWrr

Cleveland, OH is a suburb of Euclid……

Laugh Love it!

Galaxy, maybe the forum spell-checker is having a spat with the dictionary or Wikipedia? Smile, Wink & Grin I had to go check it myself - it's one of those words that look wrong, even when spelled correctly (as you had it). Question For tomorrow's appointment, put a stick note on the mirror in the bathroom, maybe. Good that you got your pain meds.

Jeffrey, I can see how you would NOT like nursing home hallways. Hey, what's the maximum number of manufacturers' assemblies (not just individual parts) that you've put into one of your Frankenlocos?

Flip, (last time I checked) I don't think I have a track-cleaning car, but maybe I should consider one...Huh?

Curt - and you would know about having the track (in front of a track-cleaning car) clear by how? Smile, Wink & Grin (Okay, I'll hush up now...)Mischief

You all got me trying to recall how long ago I started stopping by the Coffee Shop (the Diner's name before it was the Diner or ETD)... After some searching, I could find a December 2006 page, but that was after the name got changed to the Diner, so I'm guessing I was around before then in here. Will do some more searching (here and in old emails...) before I put it in my signature...

Oh, here's the link for that (Dec. 31, 2006) older Diner:

http://cs.trains.com/mrr/f/88/t/83683.aspx

Hmm... the 'insert/edit link' icon is greyed out for me... Well, copy and paste the above to go see an older Diner, anyway.

[Edit:] Turns out if you go back and edit your post, the link icon becomes w**kable... Go figure!

I'll be lazing here in the booth while I finish off dessert. Dinner

Hope we hear something from Ulrich before long - starting to get concerned about him... AngelAngel for him, as well as for those in need of healing, comfort, and/or a good night's peace/rest.

Blessings,

Jim in Cape G.

Well, after a little more looking, I haven't found my earliest post, but I found the earliest Coffee Shop page:

http://cs.trains.com/mrr/f/88/t/15409.aspx

- which is before I started hanging around the place.Whistling The above page has Elliott(Big Boy 4005)'s start to the Coffee Shop (and the last page is 3 years or so later, in 2007(!)).

A little history for those newer to the place. Old and crotchety, Galaxy? Grumpy (Heh, heh...)

Gidday All, All this change is slightly unsettling so could I have a shot of dark rum in my cocoa please.

cudaken

 Evening Dinners!

 Flo, Beer Pleases.

I was all so told wrong about how many times I need to check my blood sugar a week! I was told twice a week. I should be checking twice a day. One day in the morning before I eat, then 2 hours after. Next day in the evening before and after dinner. I am to record the readings and after a week call in the numbers. They will then change my med's as needed.

Beer and Blood Sugar. Yes, I have started drinking Beer again and it was easy to do. Reason it was easy is because I went 3 weeks with out a beer. Blood Sugar Levels where just as high when I did not drink as when I did. So if the readings where the same, why not drink? Beer My RN Consular told me people react differently to different foods and drink.

Gidday Ken, As you're finding out diabetes has slightly different individual effects. When I was first diagnosed two years ago with type 2, I was testing my blood sugar levels before and after each meal for about 4 months until the doc got my meds sorted. now just 3 times a year.

What they don't tell you about beer/alcohol though is that it actually helps to lower your blood sugar levels, BUT  the downside is that it contains bad carbohydrates, and considering that weight loss, healthy eating and exercise are the best things we can do for ourselves, I have now may only have one or two beers a week.

Take care of yourself, I enjoy the photos you post.

Well as its currently 2258 hours, and currently 38 F with a forecast high of 57 F and showers tomorrow, and as I have w**k, its now time for my bed.

Thoughts and best wishes to all that need them.

Cheers, the Bear.

Jeffrey, what's the maximum number of manufacturers' assemblies (not just individual parts) that you've put into one of your Frankenlocos?

I'm not sure. I don't keep notes on that sort of thing. I think that would be five.

Good morning. It's 78° and the humidity is 95%. It'll be mostly cloudy with a fair chance of showers and thunderstorms. The high will be 95° with a heat index of 109°.

I don't think I'll be doing much today. I feel like I picked up some kind of bug and I'm not feeling well. I have a slow freight running this morning. Two Atlas Frankenlocos (GP40 and FP7) are doing the honors. The other Atlas GP40 won't be usable until I can get a Digitrax decoder into it and get Barney Oldfield away from the throttle. That thing goes way too fast! Could it give the TGV a run for it's money? I don't know. It wasn't at full throttle in the video. It would have flipped over if it was. I had the old busted up body on it in case it did. I really must get my work area cleaned up. It looks like Katrina and Rita dropped in for a day at the park.

Good Morning!!!

(sits down on something squishy)Sigh Put tomatoes on Ray’s sandwich after all didn’t they Flo?

Coffee please and a couple…oh what’s that? Fruit bar. Hm, I think I’ll just do that. Thanks.

Rained yesterday. Bout ½ inch total. Even had some thunder go with it for a couple rounds.

Hey Don, good to see you. You too Jeremy.

Paul- Praying for you wife.

Whoa. Stay out of Leesville. I hear the drums already. Some little Indian woman is about to go on the Warpath.

Ya, ya, I know she's not an "Indian" but it took less time than typing Native American. Well I guess not after this. Besides, I was taught in school Christopher Columbus discovered America, then for some reason let it be named after Amerigo Vespucci, and that means he discovered Native Americans and named them. It's history folks. And here I thought he was just some drunk sailor who got lost and landed on some island and thought it was India. Guess I was wrong. Though I never did understand how you could discover a land already inhabited. Seems someone already did to me. BUT we got a day of from school, so I was ok with it.

Tom- I agree with the where are you from thing missing. Just thought of it as Paul was saying where he lives about the horses and I looked up after saying “now where’s he live again and…Blindfold..” Hate to keep asking someone where do you live 40,000 times til my feeble mind finally remembers. Shoot, othern Ken, I only rmember a few of the ones that have been around longern I have. Didn’t have to.

Ever notice there are more old drunks than there are old doctors? Hmm Makes you think.

Ok, Brenda painted the bathroom last night while I was at w**kYes. Yup, shore did. Why didn’t I get it done? Well the thunderstorms you silly geese. See, my beloved wife has taught this dog of ours, that when severe storms come she is to go to the basement. How does the dog know a storm is coming? Why thunder of course. Problem is the goofy thing can’t distinguish non severe, from severe. So, as I’m trying to paint the edges, the thunder comes and the dog gets out of bed and stands in the doorway whining and yapping like all pesky. Off to the basement we go and I have to sit there or she follows me up and does the same thing till the thunder leaves. Went back up after it was over, did a few things grabbed some lunch and started to get back to painting, when along comes round two of thunder and…….back to the basement. After that….I took a nap and didn’t get back to painting.

Ya’ll have a good day!!!!

I hope it clears up, just stopped raining here.  What am I, about 4 hours away from you?   I'm heading up to Bancroft today to do some fishing with the wife.   I was hoping to drive up with the top down in her new/old Jeep.  I got to say I was kind of leary about buying it because they drive kind of rough and she is more use to driving a car or the old Escalade but it really is a lot of fun and she loves it.  Yesterday we took the top and the doors off and just drove around for 4 hours, lol.   I didn't realize this but Jeep Wrangler drivers wave at each other, or at least most of them do.  I thought that was kind of funny.  We had people waving at us in other Jeeps the first few days and we would look at each other and say who was that, lol.

I'm not a big fan of this new format either, it truly sucks on my 24 inch monitor.  Sigh

The Jeep I did have for awhile was an old thing..something like a WWII surplus special that I bought sometime back in the 1970's...painted it orange with red flames on the side...bad, bad beast this was...it could almost climb walls with this thing...

Good Morning All,

68F, 78% humidity, Hi today 74F.

Jim, oh yea I told the story at one of Dorothy’s relatives parties….

I didn’t get to do any MRR projects last night, I went straight to work on cutting the grass before the big storm hit.  Weather guessers said rain from Thursday evening through the weekend and after 4 weeks of not having to cut the grass things were starting to look unlived in.  Still waiting for the rain, but I guess I have my weekend free and clear for MRR stuff.

This is unseasonably cool here for August, I wonder if this means a cold harsh winter is around the corner.

Ray, no there isn’t but then again the view is pretty plain on I-90 from the PA line to about Sandusky, OH unless you’re really into trees and cement retaining walls.  Where is your sister?

Morning All,

Got a late start this morning since I was up until 2 AM.  Nothing much planned or today other than putter around the layout.

Paul- I am saying prayers for your wife.

Todd- Around here we have more of a problem from house fires caused by lightning strikes, so going to  the basement would be a bad idea. Of course with FL water table it would probably be a swimming pool and not a basementLaugh.

Jeff- Hope you feel  better. I had to laugh at that video of the speed run.

Galaxy- My co-workers have given me the nickname of Walter (Jeff Dunham).

Hope everyone has a great day.

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I'll have the #2 special this morning, eggs over easy, bacon, home fries, and a double order of sour dough toast (That outta briong the old blood sugar up there....) and dark roast coffee in a R&GV RR mug.  Thank you Ma'am.

Stopped by late last night but didn't post.  It was after 11:30PM by the time I drove in the drive way.  Slept in to way too late this morning.

LSWrr

Ray, no there isn’t but then again the view is pretty plain on I-90 from the PA line to about Sandusky, OH unless you’re really into trees and cement retaining walls.  Where is your sister?

She lives in Florida....... Laugh  Oh, well, she used to live in South Bend, IN.  To get to her house I just drove over to the NYS Thruway and drove to South Bend, got off I-90 and drove a few blocks over to her house....  Didn't even have to use the GPS..........

Had a crowd last night at the museum meeting.  The Rochester G-Scalers came over for the evening.  We used the 80 Tonner and two cabeese up and down the line a few times.  The G-Scalers all left and then only 5 of us went part way up the line for a night photo shoot on RG&E 45 Tonner Beebee Station.  But....  They had to unhook the cabeese from the 80 Tonner and use her to tow the 45 Tonner out for the photo shoot.  Hmmmmmmm???  We were hoping the 45 Tonner would be in use  on Sunday for Diesel Days.  After the shoot was over I asked one of the guys, what was up?  Seems old Beebee Station has a clogged fuel filter and doesn't want to start and run...........   Hopefully an easy fix.

Lee, I'm sure you are aware Beebee staion was the RG&E coal fired plant served by the Hojack Brodge in Charlotte, NY.  The Museum owns both 45 Tonners that were used over there.

I'll have photos later today.

Have a good one and stay safe!

That's no surprise. I almost busted up laughing when I was making it. On the first part of that run the loco almost ran into the rear of my freight train -- and it wasn't even 3/4 throttle! That motor came out of a Life-Like PA1 in case you're wondering.

Good Morning, Zoe (yep, still morning for a few more minutes) - I'll have the waffle special, real maple syrup and a pat of butter, glass of OJ, another of milk, and a CAW mug of coffee, please. Thanks!

Jeff, I'd bet that you have more than a few Frankenlocos with four or five different manufacturers represented in one loco. Wink Hope you get feeling better, and if it gets any worse through the day, consider seeing your doctor, please.

Curt, your comment about the lightning strikes made me think about our news this morning said there was a fairly old (and big) tree (don't recall how close in our region) that got hit by lightning yesterday and caught fire. I'd think for lightning that I would want to be in an interior room (preferably no windows), and off any land line (knew of a guy whose wife was killed by a strike that came in through the phone line). Stay safe, everybody!

Not as many Diners in this morning - of course, at w**k today things are a bit slower than usual (not that I mind - easier to make sure my paperw**k gets done). Kinda damp and dreary-looking (I think Barry calls it "dull"...Smile, Wink & Grin).

Boy, would I like to be on the MR Forum Users advisory board (for the interface section)... Wink

Think I'll doodle some ideas for layout plan modifications on the napkin while I wait for my waffles...

Blessings and prayers,

Jim in Cape G.

These last few drives I've rebuilt all look somewhat similar.

Atlas GP40 #2

Atlas FP7

Athearn F7 Slug

They all use Proto motors and Athearn/Proto shafts. The one that's been different was Atlas GP40 #1 which is all Atlas with the exception of the motor which is Proto.

Oh well, there's a Greek in every crowd I guess.

Well

well

I went to the pulmonologist today {after the breathing test} , and my asthma is worse which explains some why my breathing is harder than before. Of course I have gained a few pounds in the last 3 years...they always bring that up. I get out of breath for a simple chore of getting dressed. I don't weeze so much, but can"t seem to catch my breath sometimes for the simplist thing..

SO, he had me do some special blood work and I may have to have an MRI to determine If I have blood clots in my lungs...

Oh goodie if I do...

Started me on another medication for breathing. It doesn't seem to help with the one dose I took when I got home with it, but I have to give it time, naturally.

Well dinner is pulled pork sandwiches..so get your buns toasted...

Evening All,

Went out to supper with the family. Been kind of a lazy day today. I was rummaging in one of my spare parts drawers and found a couple of the Caboose Industries ground throws left over from a previous project so I removed 2 tortoises and replaced them with ground throws. One gave me a fit with alignment but I finally got it. I ran my M-1b through those turnouts without issue.

Tomorrow I will be going to the train club then Sunday is back to w**k.

Hope everyone has a good night and prayers for those in need.

Evenin' folks!

Janie just a decaf right now to settle the nerves a bit.

Got the lawn mowed and trimmed today.  For the first time this year I ran out of steam before the mower ran out of battery....  Well the second time actually.  I did about 3 quarters of it and then took a break and had lunch, fed the kitties their lunch, and went down cellar to do wash and fiddle with a few things on the layout.  I got 3 more coats done for the mold today.  Still have several to go before I remove the mold from the form.  Worked on putting some of the trackage in place for the upper staging.  Got the curved turnout installed over the tortoise and then laid part of the track.  Checked it as I went with a couple passenger cars to make sure they would easily negotiate the curve.  This is an area where I want everything perfect as it will be difficult (but not impossible) to work on after the area is finished.

Galaxy, Hope the breathing problems improve quickly for you.

Jim several years ago (back when I was teaching) the office secretary at one of the elementary schools here was starting to dismiss the students when the phone rang.  One of the parents wanted to let her child know she was picking her up due to the thunderstorm rumbling through.  She had just said she would tell the child when a lightning strike hit near the school.  they found her on the floor half way across the office out cold.  911 was called immediately and the nurse gave first responder treatment even before the ambulance arrived.  The lady survived but no longer answered phones during thunderstorms.  All the other buildings had an emergency faculty meeting that day after school!

Hope everyone is getting used to the upgrade downgrade, uh, change of the forums.  I have actually found a couple things I do like such as the spellchecker that works!

Have a great night everyone.

Have been working quite hard on clearing land for the future pasture. Primarily digging up stumps and clearing the perimeter for fences. No time for MRRing for awhile yet. Still much to do before the end of Sept (when I need to seed it) and the clock seems to be ticking faster all the time.

Cheers! Cowboy Rob

 Evening Dinners

 Flo, Beer Pleases

Really down in the dumps today. Sigh VA gave me some happy pills, but after reading the all the warnings of the side effects I am not in a hurry to take them!

Bloods Sugar. Man I am stumped. Today at 7:30 PM my reading was 127, just a tad high. Ate two pieces of whole wheat bread, piece of cheese and 2 pieces of lunch meat. Guessing total carb's was around 40 grams. 2 hours later tested again and I was at 187?

Good Morning, [I think] .  If its saturday, why was I wide awake at 5:02? Been toasted and coffeed and have laundry going.             Weather the last week has been low 70's in a.m. ,mid 90's in p.m. with scattered T-storms. Guess what? Next five days low 70's in a.m. , mid 90's and scattered T-storms in p.m.. Must be summer in mid Fla.  I don't mind driving in rain but I wish it wasn't so heavy that I cant see the road. Yes,I do pull off till it slacks off. What is dangerous, is the donkeys driving without their headlights on.

Wish y'all a pleasent weekend. Stay hydrated.   Prayers and Blessings,

Flip

Wish I could find some here.

Good morning. It's 75° with 94% humidity. Numerous showers and thunderstorms on tap today with a high of 90° with a heat index of 103°.

Looks like it's gonna be wet and hot today. Nothing much here right now but there's some ugly looking weather coming across Texas. Good sleeping weather. I did some cleanup on my work area yesterday. It only looks half as bad as it did yesterday morning. It's mostly tools, bits of wire and some small parts and screws. There's still more to do.

Mornin' everyone!

Janie, I'll have a couple of those sour cream glazed donuts to dunk in my dark roast coffee this morning.

Nice sunny, cool day outside here in the Finger Lakes Region of NYS today.  Currently 65°F with a high around 73°F later this afternoon.  Looks like a perfect day for a picnic out at the R&GV RR Museum!

Sunday is Diesel Day out at the museums so part of the day today will be setting up tents and getting things cleaned up around the place for that.  Tomorrow is supposed to be a pleasant day weather wise also so we should get a good sized crowd.  I'm hoping they have been able to repair the problems with the 45 Tonner so she will be in operation!

Best get moving.  Hope all of you have a safe and fine day!

Good morning, Diners.  The new facelift takes a little getting used to.

Yesterday would have been my dad's 100th birthday if he were still with us.   I guess almost 90 was pretty good though.  It was a full life.

Larry is painting a loco for me.  It will probably be a shay.  WooHoo!

I canned tuna yesterday at a friends house.  I got home after midnight.  I have to go out this morning  to wash the jars.

Later,   Sue
