Evenin' folks!
Janie, my usual decaf would be wonderful... Thank You Ma'am!
I get a lot of odds and ends done today. Pulled out one of the ice melting cords from the deck gutter. My electrician says i won't need them anymore. They are all now way too long anyway. I might be able to use the shortest one in the gutters on the deck if there is any ice build up this winter. Also finished the lawn and ran the string trimmer all around the property including the part of the garden where I have gotten the garlic removed. No sign of the baby bunnies, so I figure either mama bunny took them away to a new den (Hopefuly not in the garden) or the neighbors cat is well fed at the moment...... Even managed to get to the train room this afternoon and this evening for a while. Made up another #6 right hand turnout. Got it finished except for gluing the ties in place.
Barry, I am glad the cancer is treatable! You are in my prayers for a complete and easy recovery from the whole thing!
Vincent, I think it is just the time of year where many regulars are off doing other things. They will be back come fall or before!
Tomorrow I will be spending most of the day out at the museum as a docent. I won't be back in until tomorrow evening......
Prayers for all in need!

Has anyone seen my Rail Nippers?
Flo, Do you have my Rail Nippers? You think Jeffery Stole Them?
Jeffery Did you take my Rail Nippers?
Man what a day. Work was sloooooow. Got home on time and the Keyboard Thingy was messed up! While I could get on the internet sites ( Mozilla and Explore ) none of the pages would load? Next I ran a vises scan and tried to see my PC use by hitting Ctrl Alt Delete then things got really strange. Finally ran a full Scan Disk check, that took 7 beers to run!
Good thing is I ran the trains for about a hour and half. Dug out the Blue Line GE AC 6000 and think I see the reason it sounds like caboose. Small pieces of metal has been sucked in to the speaker area.
Now if Jeffery would give me back My Rail Nippers I could fix it!
Night All. Ken
I hope this post was taken as I meant it! Jeffery Took My Rail Nippers!

Barry: Prayers your way for a quick recovery.
Time for me to call it a night. My niece had a pool party today to celebrate her birthday. Lots of swimming, sodas, beer, grilling and barbeque. The grilling and barbeque got my attention. I ate my fill and brought more home. See y'all tomorrow.

Evening guys
Seems like the dinerhas been kinda slow recently. Guess the MIA list is taking it's toll.
The right F-unit detail parts showed up today, I'll send the wrong ones back tuesday. I'm listing all the stuff I need to get to complete the group of F-units I am doing, and that's not counting the group I'll be getting in a few weeks. I re-evaluated the F9 quandry again, and decided I will wind up using the ex-L&A one. I can leave the other one as one that didn't get a snowplow pilot. I also ordered some other parts for those Atlas GP38Xs. Ever since I've got them the windshield wipers and some other small detail parts have fallen off. I ordered enough to cover several more locomotives.
As for actual work on the trains, I put together one of the Walther's GSC flats, The SOO one is on a bench up-side down while I'm waiting on glue for the bulkheads to dry. The ATSF one is wrapped in rubber bands while I try to straighten it out (warped frame) I figure by the time I get back from work tomorrow I can add the trailer hitch. Wish I had some more kadees to stick in these things, I'm leaving the coupler pockets off until I get some more. That reminds me I need to get some metal wheels.
Barry, Good luck with your treatment.
Vincent
Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....
2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.
Ditto. Best wishes for a speedy recovery.
Prayers for you and all others.
Flip and Deb.
Barry, (Blownout Cylinder)
My Wife and myself wish to extend to you our very best wishes and prayers for your speedy recovery.

Good Evening
It was an interesting day filled with lots of paperwork and getting new equipment stuffed into our office plus getting some more stuff done at the church........then off to the cafe to rest one's beleagured bones then off to get some more groceries to cover for tomorrow's operating session and BBQ..
I started my sick leave this weekend because, well, it is radiation/chemo next week..and I need time to get some things done before I am too ill or some such.......but I am still going to get some photos done next week of some of the layout....
JimRC: Well, they did find that it was a slow growing type of bone cancer..thank goodness..all that is needed is a couple of treatment sessions and hopefully things will clear up...

Today I'm inspecting two new acquisitions. Two commemorative proofs. An 1854-S Double Eagle and a 1933 Saint-Gaudens $20 Gold Double Eagle. As far as it is known not a single example of an 1854-S Douple Eagle was saved. Out of 141,468 coins struck not a single one was saved. Only one original proof coin is known to have been struck. On the 1933 $20 Double Eagle, they have been the stuff of legend. They were made legally but were illegal to own as soon as they were made. It shouldn't exist but it does. Nearly half a million were struck in 1933 despite FDR's recall of all gold coins. They never circulated and remained in storage until they were ordered destroyed in 1937. A few were pocketed by mint employees but the theft wasn't noticed until 1944. Nine coins were recovered but one escaped. What happened to it afterward is for you history buffs to track down. Wikipedia has quite a bit of information about it.
JimRCGMO Good morning, Flo (well, for a minute or so yet)! I'll have a BLT, cheesey fries, and a RBF, please 'n' Thank You. Hmmm...maybe for dinner I could have chimmichugas? Or chili? Decisions, decisions(oh, wait, somebody else said that, I think)... Jeff, it must be your fault - you got me thinkin' about all those yummy (and filling!) foods.

Ah, David P., good to see you in the Diner - and when you get back again, fill us in on what's taking up your time at w**k (are you doing that full-time over the summer?).
Ulrich, I would vote for you in a heartbeat (kinda wish we had people more like you running than some on this side of 'the pond'. Glad to hear your weather is better than our oven lately.
Todd, as you said, no guarantees. Of course, I never got that impression about women having ANY guarantees when I was married.... Good luck with your tiny rooms and grand living room.
Curt, rest up and follow your doctor's/doctors' orders. Maybe you'll be fortunate enough that the meds your primary doc gave you (yeah, they don't usually give 'em away...) will take care of things and leave nothing for your GI doc to tend to..
I went by the LHS today - a few things I'd ordered came in. One was the Walthers Rivoli Theatre, and I'm trying to figure how to make it look a bit older than it does. It makes me think of more like 1960's or 70's than 1950's. But want to figure it out without opening the shrink-wrap (so if I can't figure how to make it w**k, I can sell it more readily). Also got in some smaller detail stuff from Frenchman River (stone wall castings, brick herringbone walkway (can use it for in front of a train depot), and some trunks/crates for loading docks or freight carts.
For now, I decided to come in here, since the A/C does a fine job of keeping me cooler than outside is today (already at 90 F outside. Man, this RBF hits the spot!
Blessings and prayers,
Jim in Cape G.
Curt Webb Not such a good day today. Just got back from the MD. I have been having lower GI pain all week but it has been manageable. Yesterday after getting home the pain really spiked and sleep was non-existent except in very short periods. The Doc says it looks like a fungal infection but not sure if more is going on so I have to follow up with a GI Doc next week. She prescribed a Antifungal and a Antibiotic (just in case) and put me out of work next week.To be honest I wasn't sure how I would make it though work anyway. She also gave me a hard time for waiting so long before coming in.

Changed out the shell on the third chassis of the F unit trio. It's now sporting a Varney F3B shell, so that makes the second and third unit with Varney shells. They're a bit easier to pick out as they're not only a bit rougher looking but they're also slightly longer than the Athearn or Stewart shell. The Stewart F3B is about forty-nine scale feet from the front of the roof to the rear of the roof and the Varney's are about fifty-one scale feet.
Afternoon All,
Hope you all have a better weekend and Thank You to the veterans.

Morning Folks
Flo, Coffee Please.
David Glad to see you dropped by! I am the Dave is no where as bad as I Am The Larry.
Had a MRR Scare Last Night. I had been running 3 trains with 2 engines each last night. They where running great. One of the trains where powered by my Dash 9's. I started cranking up the speed some then all of a sudden Beep, Beep, Beep and the DB 150 shut down! Did a quick check and nothing was derailed. Figured the Athearn RTR ate its decoder and called it a night.
Fired up the track this morning, everything is fine. Only thing I can think of is the DB 150 got to warm and shut it self down. Boy my wiring must be a real nightmare, I know the DB 150 should be good for 10 engines with no problem.
I am off Sunday! Yeah, and I will not be answering the phone!
Ken
Good Morning!!!
Mostly sunny and hot, with a high near 95. Heat index values as high as 100. Ok, so now it’s getting to the hot side.
I tell you what, that Jeffrey is equally good at suggesting what’s for lunch as he is at swiping other peoples train stuff. Chili dogs it is. Done flung a cravin on me.
sssssSSSSTHOOMP!! Whoa! (stares at knife now sticking in the wall) I guess he did see some humor in it...., he didn't aim directly at me. (how's he do that. He didn't even turn around)
Jim- For what it is worth, she has picked out all the colors and styles and all for everything. I’m just the labor. In theory, that should alleviate any of the “doesn’t match” issues. No guarantees of course but stand a good chance to be ok. As for the family feud, simmering is a good word I guess. Just a few small eruptions but nothing sending it over the rim. They are having a yard sale today, then they are packing what’s left over to Super Duper Evil Sisters house for one next weekend. Now they are occupied with only small things to set them off. Normal for that family when they do anything together except breathe. No, actually they did get in a tussle once because one didn’t like the other "breathing over my shoulder" so I guess they fight over breathing as well.
Ulrich- Oh. I see a system that keeps people from falsifying qualifications to get a job they are not qualified for, also keeps someone who just wants a job and to w**k even if they are over qualified. Sounds like something our folks in charge would do.
Welp, Gonna shut this contraption down and be outta the loop until the floor istuhthe point where I can setter up agin. Yup. No place to put the stuff in here and Brenda does not want another room filled “temporarily”, so I’m shifting from one side to the other like I did in the Living room. Difference is, it’s much smaller. Our house, though only what, 17 years old, was designed like the old houses. Small bedrooms because all you did in the rooms back then was sleep, small kitchen because well, there pretty much was only the wife in the kitchen, as she should be when she's not cleaning (POW!!!) oh my head. Sorry Zoe. I didn’t see her standing there. Anyway, the living room is very large for …..living… I guess. Hm. After I got cracked in the head….., I have no idea where I was going with this line of conversation so I’ll just click outta here and get started on the floor.
Oh great. Now it’s Chimichanga’s and chili. Decisions, decisions.
Ya’ll have a good day!!!!

Just stopping in to say hi before getting the rest of the lawn mowed this morning! Want to get THAT done before it gets unbearably hot today.... Already 75°F here in the Finger lakes Region.
Later!
73 here and somewhat cloudy. Dr. Pepper please. Those eggs, bacon and toast look good too. How do I want my eggs? Scrambled, like a congressman's mind.
How is everyone today? I am just taking a little break before getting back to the mountain of work that is my life.
Ulrich: It sounds like the job market there is it's own worst enemy. Such forceful honesty would never be tolerated here. Congress would outlaw it in a micro-second. Pens would be scribbling at the speed of light!
Ken: I am glad to see you no longer have 'I am the Larry' in your hair. I hope you did not trade for 'I am the dave'.
David Parks I am the terror that flaps in the night!
Good morning, Chloe. I think a large coffee will do nicely before my run.
Operations session at our friends place tomorrow. We haven't seen his layout for a while. It will be great to see his progress.

Anything is possible if you do not know what you are talking about.
Good Morning
Already 70F going to a high of 77F and sticky....
Got a bunch of runnin' 'roun' to do so I better be off and doin' this!!
CYLTR!!!
Good morning. It's 70° and partly cloudy. The high will be 95° and it'll be sunny. So far I have the layout partially cleaned up and I've found a couple of items that had gone missing. I'm program the Athearn/Proto GP35 this morning. It's going to be permanently mu'd with a Front Range/Athearn/Proto/Proto Power West/Walthers GP9. Neither one by itself is heavy enough to pull more than nine or ten cars but both together can pull twenty or more. No other plans for today.
Good Morning! from Tipton IN.

Good Morning Gang!
Incredible - we haven´t seen a cloud for a week now! Nice to wake up with the birds singing in the sunshine.
Thanks, Folks, for all the good advice. Unfortunately, the German job market plays by a different set of rules. Toning down a CV would not help, as each job application has to be accompanied by a full set of employer´s testimonials. If I´d tone down my level of qualification, there´d be a mismatch between my CV and those testimonials. "Adjusting" the testimonials is a criminal offense as they have the character of official documents, so that´s a no go. Our application procedure would be perfectly illegal in most of the countries in the world, but here it is as it is, limiting my chances ever to find a job. Who ´d hire an ex-CFO and CEO who is now 3 years on the dole? I wouldn´t...
Maybe I should go into politics - Folks, I am just kidding
About an hour´s drive south of my place, there is a steam festival this weekend. Too bad I can´t go there.
Have a good weekend!
Evening Fellow Dinners!
Flo, Beer Please.
Late customer, did not get out till 10:06. Shop hit over $13,000.00 today and Dave was in a good mood! He kidded with me and I knew he was kidding.
Curt Yea if there was not the Pink rock it was a pretty good shot. Been better in the track had ballast.
One of the guys did some photo magic to the shoot.
Looks pretty good.

Jim good to see you in the dinner. Yes the shoots where taken at St Louis Museum. If you feel like making the trip again to the museum let me know! Love to meet you and the last time I was there I was with my wife. It was in the background and she was afraid she get struck my lighting. So the trip was cut way to short.
Jeffery Thanks for the tips. I think I checked the volts out sometime ago and it was around 13.5 volts.
Time to check if I won the Mega Millions!
Ulrich
I agree with the others that you should consider toning down your qualifications on your resume. You don't have to lie - you just have to simplify.
For example, earliier in my carreer I had 15 years experience as a mid level accounting manager, training manager and retail manager. I could have written a resume which said "manager" all over it, but that was not the position that I was applying for. So, I rephrased it to say that I had 15 years of retail experience including supervisory responsibilities, training of subordinates and inventory control functions.
Did I lie? No, I don't think so. Did I scare them off because of overqualification? Apparently not because they hired me.
I would offer the following suggestion: Look at the job description very carefully and ask yourself "what person are they looking for?". Once you answer that question you might have a better idea of how to phrase your resume and application. You are rightly proud of your accomplishments, but your application should not focus on what you have done, but rather what you can do for them.
Just one other word of advise: Don't waste your time applying to companies who are clearly only interested in hiring new young prospects. Look for companies, large or small, who rely on experienced staff to maintain their daily operations. For example my major experience, other then the early managing stint, was in selling roofing, windows and doors. So I went to one of the 'big box' home improvement stores and spoke to them mainly about that experience. Apparently my strategy worked. The interviews were so brief that I didn't know whether I was in or not until they actually made the offer. I focused on my window and door knowledge, not my other experience.
Ultimately Ulrich advice is easy to give. Getting it to work for you is often a much harder reality. All I can say is don't give up. If you do, it will be their loss! Sometimes less is more!
Best of luck
Dave
I'm just a dude with a bad back having a lot of fun with model trains, and finally building a layout!
Janie, just my usual cup of decaf, please.
Been a long and busy day around here. Got more of the garlic removed form the garden and well over half of the lawn mowed. Then my granddaughters came over for a visit while their dad ran some errands he had to do. They had me over for supper later, Steak, corn, macaroni salad, and asparagus right out of my garden.
Manét bugged me to play with him using the laser pointer every time I sat down at the computer. He comes over and stares for a while, then puts one paw on my leg and meows loudly. Then looks at the place I keep the pointer and then back at me.... Then another meow...... He goes completely nuts trying to catch it...
The bunnies are still out in the garden... At least one is, couldn't find one of them after I got home tonight. I'm hoping that the Doe found one and took it somewhere else. They both survived being dug out of the ground this morning. The main garden is fenced in with fence a rabbit is not supposed to get through, but it is getting old and there are places momma rabbit can get in. I have seen her in there this spring on a few occasions..... Now I know why.
No model railroading again for me today...... I did get an email that Kappler lumber has shipped my order, so I should have some more tie stock by the end of next week. Now if I could only find the scale ruler.....
Hope you all have a good night! prayers for those in need.
Vincent: you need to take lessons from Ken. No touch'em ringing talkie thing on'um day off!
Time for me to call it a night. I got the Athearn/Proto GP35 converted to DCC. The U25C will go back on the display shelf as DC as the other decoder was dead. Didn't get much of a chance to clean up the layout. Maybe tomorrow. Had chimichangas and chili earlier today. Topped that off with two big slices of watermelon this evening. See y'all tomorrow.
Evening, Chloe! I'll have a bowl of chili with some grated cheese and onions on it - oh, heck, make that a chili dog, with a RBF, please. Thanks!
Well (likely drying out completely with the heat lately, and NO rain), We go into the mid 90's (F) today, and supposed to reach about 98-99 F tomorrow. Better order my block of ice to sit on out on my deck tomorrow...
Ulrich, I hear you about the overqualified disqualifier, and yes, it can indeed be just that you are 'too good.' I wasn't told exactly that after I got my Master's, but I also didn't get some jobs for a long while. I finally started leaving it off my resumé's, though that didn't make much difference. (I think someone who has better qualifications than the person interviewing you is intimidating to them, like they start worrying that you may wind up replacing them!).Finally, I had somebody I knew from church hire me for a dishwashing job they had in a cafeteria. And a few months after that, some openings closer to my field turned up. So keep sending out those applications.
Ken, was the photo you posted (of the 1:1 trains)from the Transportation Museum in St Louis County? Reminded me of it, anyway. On the w**k front, I'd be beginning to wonder about your company, with all the people who are...(let's just say, less-than-outstanding in the scruples department...).You and the manuals sounds like I've done a time or two (or three...).
Darren, nice shots of Rio Grande territory (I'm guessing) there; are you back from vacation now?
Curt & Flip, good to hear that you guys got a chance to meet, even if the LHS was closed. Your take on Flip sounds like mine of him (but I've only 'conversed' by emails for a while). Hope you (Curt) can get the MRR stuff you need on your next trip there to the LHS.
Barry, I think I missed it - did you get your results on your tests back yet?
Garry, I saw on the news this morning that that Eggers bridge near you was opening this afternoon. Have you gone over it yet? TV said that they would let people walk on it this morning, but cars would wait until 1 p.m. (Maybe the local politiker folks had to have a ribbon-cutting ceremony or such?). Bet that will help a bunch of people who used that bridge to get to w**k or to run errands.
Thanks for the comments on the building. I had some trouble with the epoxy not holding on one of the wall corners (and the joint broke on me), so I cleaned up the surface, superglued it initially, and then after it dried, epoxied along the joint. Maybe I didn't get it primed right/cleaned up around the joint before gluing, or something else (Mr. Murphy maybe visited?....) So I have that triangular piece (between the one big side wall and the lower addition wall) now epoxied in place and tonight will see epoxying the rest of the back wall (and smaller connecting walls).

ROTFL!
Ray, how's the tree trimming/removal coming along (wasn't sure if you were done yet or not on that). Consider yourself lucky if you're just now putting your A/C in the window there - we're gonna have a little less than a week of 95+ F weather (and this early in the season, that's not a good starter!). Oh, I installed the OS X 10.7.4 update (downloaded the standalone Combo install file), and it got down to 'about one minute' left - for about five minutes... So I force-quit it (hey, I can always re-install from backups, right?), restarted, and other than the Installer wanting to open its window back up (it would quit then...), appeared to have gotten done, and then went on a lunch break or something. Another reason I'm glad I installed Lion on an external drive...
Todd, on those Williamsville Floor Wars - it sounds like you are assuming that once you have redone all the floors, the 'little lady' won't decide that she doesn't think that the floor in one room looks good where the other room's floor is next to it in the doorway...And of course, that means another trip for more materials and such... [:-&] Oh, how is the Family Feud Show coming along?
Rob, I hadn't heard in a while - no new losses/missing stock there on the farm (and no sightings of the coyotes lately)? Hopefully, the varmits have moved on.
Wayne, can you send some of that sn*w down to Missouri? That must be a little unusual, even for Montana, I'd think. After all, it is almost June, right?
Vincent, post photos after you get that ATSF GSC flatcar done - if the ones you got are the older Walthers kits, I have some of those (yet to put together). Would love some inspiration...
Stereo problems: I had decided that the 20 year old apartment stereo (the one that only plays a fairly loud hum when I try to turn it on for the past week or two) had had a long run and was deserving of a rest or re-do. Took it to one local electronics repair place where the guy can fix almost anything (kind of the electronics equivalent for Jeffrey ) and gave it to him. I figure he just may get it w**king again and then can sell it off fairly cheap to somebody who couldn't afford new. Then I did some looking at local places (Target, Wally's Place, etc.) to see what they had, and also checked online reviews of the different models of each. Today, I went and bought the one I decided looking to be good, but also affordable. Brought it home and started hooking it up, and determined that 1) the construction wasn't too great, and 2) unless I wanted to use the cheesey AM loop antenna or the plain wire FM antenna that came with the stereo, there wasn't any simple way to hook a decent antenna to it(!). Put it all back in the box (almost was able to close the lid...) and took it back within an hour or two of when I bought it, and got the sale credited back to my card. Now I expect I will have to set back more money to get a decent apartment stereo (without going to separate components or audiophile-quality (and price$)), likely at a local stereo shop, unless one guy I know who is an electronics guru can suggest something more reliable.
I did yesterday watch a DPM/Woodland Scenics video about building/decorating/detailing DPM kits. Pretty interesting, and well worth the download (or you can view it online if you have a quick enough connection).
Think I'll kick back at the window booth with my chili dog and RBF.... Prayers for those needing healing, safe travels (for those on the road this weekend), good night's sleep, and for a variety of job situations.
Well I should have learned from Ken, work called and I answered. Wound up working from about 1pm to about 6:30pm. I could use the extra money for more trains though.
That undec stewart F9 I got turned out to be a mis-listing. It was a Kato drive, not a stewart drive. I suppose that's a pleasent suprise. Also with the F9 was 2 Walther's GSC flats (Soo and ATSF) and an Atlas EV caboose (SSW). The flats I'll use after putting them together per their respective prototypes. The caboose will be repainted as a BN.
Hi Diners! Curt it wasn't only nice it was entertaining. I really learned the meaning of-K.I.S.S. Watching Jon going through the d c c controller with your steamer made me realize how happy to stay with dc. was a smart move. Not being the handiest of men I would have destroyed many engines ,controllers and turned into a blubbering drunk or idiot. My MRC has a swwitch for diesel sounds and for steam. So much easier. Ah well , them that can, do and enjoy. Me, I get frustrated to easily. Then listening to the two of you and the misadventures with the TT. All I did was listen and smile while shaking my head. Thanks for a great morning.
Prayers for all
