Jeffery Did you say the the PA A unit ran? I just tried it on using 00 as a address. All I could get was a hum. Pulled the shell and tried spinning the flywheel and still could not get it to move? I will test it on straight DC latter. It has sat all this time so what the heck.

Why you let this one get away is beyond me and why did you never install a decoder! Ran it tonight for about a hour and it runs great with out a decoder! . Now if I can figure out how to install one, I have a NCE D13SR decoder that might suite it just fine.
Vincent Far as the engines at K-10, I will need a check to buy them. With the Vet bill and making the house payment to day I am broke. Far as a trade, send a picture so I can see if the chassis / engine might work. Still not sure if it is just the motor or not. If or when I get the settlement, then maybe I will have some cash.

Vet Front Well I have a sick Irish Wolfhound. She has a temp and a skin infection. Shaddy is allergic to fleas and we knew that. We give her Front Guard (I think that is the name) every month but cannot seem to kill them all. Vet gave us two antibiotics and some med's to clear up the skin infection. Next week we are going to try a different flea med, hopefully it will do better than what we have her on.
Far as not eating dog food, Vet seems to think she as a food aversion. When she got sick few days ago and blew chucks 5 or 6 times Vet seems to think Shaddy associates the dog food to making her sick? Could a dog be that smart? So we are going to try some other dog food mixed into what she has been eating for year. Of courses I just bought a 50 lb bag of her current dog food! But what can you say.

Afternoon guys
Still scrubbing away at those darned Fs. They are close to done and I think the F9A is done. There are a few dark spots on the roof, but I don't think those are coming off they they look like they are in the plastic. I'm beginning to wonder if the containter that my alcohol is in is allowing the alcohol to weaken. I say this because the MILW F3/7B has taken about 8 times as long as the A unit. And it still isn't done. It's a ziploc plastic container, with a couple of layers of seran wrap sandwiched in between the container and lid. I'll check again later tonight.
Jeff, best part about this brush is it's double ended. It has long bristles on one end, but really short ones on the other.

Too many things have happened to discuss here over a RBF, but what brought me in here on track 1 on the 2:30 express was the news that Ed (Orange Juice) Murphy has passed away ??? I was only conversing with him a few days ago regarding the Red Sox, he loved that team as he was brought up as a boy in Connecticut. Does anyone know WHAT happened? He wasn't sick, so was this an accident or a heart attack??

Sent an email last night to (Ed's wife) Fran with our condolences and prayers. But it's very likely that she has other things to tend to at the moment.
Packer, from my little bit of experience with paint stripping, some jobs take multiple soaks and scrubs, so take your time. The key on any spots where they don't come off is, if you can see the edge of the paint vs. the bare plastic, it'll definitely show up when you repaint over that. Better to go back and soak again. You may want to look at this from Scalecoat for the stubborn stuff (but test on an area that won't show, first).
Todd, I learned about Terro from my (ex-)wife, who was a farmer's daughter and they lived (obviously...) out in the country and had dealt with ants more than once. It's like others you described, where you set out a nickel(or so)-sized spot of it (on a piece of cardboard that I think came with the bottle of the Terro), and the ants take it back to the queen and all the little larvae in the anthill. I forget where I got the bottle I have (haven't had to use it in a long while, so the cap's likely stuck on the bottle of mine). Might check farm supply/hardware/other stores in your area for it. (Unless, of course, the EPA made 'em take it off the shelves as 'envrionmentally unfriendly' (to the ants - well, duh!) Okay, 'nuff on that topic... Oh, you'd better get that flooring back to the store ASAP, if your weather is gonna be like ours at all(!).
Garry, I checked the NKP Products site, but wish they had more photos of the different models (or else, they assume that all their customers *know* what a XYZ RR 70' baggage car looks like...). If you have any suggestions, let me know - I sent 'em an email asking about photos.

Without starting a big rant, anybody else notice how hard it is to find a FIRM tootbrush nowadays? Soft ones - easy; medium ones - not too hard, but firm ones - sheesh! I was shocked the other day at Wally's place to find a package of two firm toothbrushes (snapped them up right then). Better hang onto your old firm ones (for paint removal, though), 'cause it may take a while to find more.

Yesterday I took my 40 percent off coupon by Hobby Lobby, and got me some superglue packages (one of a couple of regular Super, and another with two tubes of the gel kind. Gonna try out the gel kind for some vertical joints. Also picked up another 5-pack of #11 Xacto-type blades. Got me thinking about where somebody has a bigger package of the #11's. Anyone know? (of course, if left too long, they could start developing rust or corrosion and not be as sharp by the time I got to the last of the blades...)
We had free health screenings at the office today - annual freebie, care of our nurses. Weight? Up 3 lbs. (without my shoes this year...). Not sure why, but blood pressure was up - 151/93 - while when I gave blood a month ago, it was 124/80. Cholesterol was back up (232, vs. last Nov. I had lowered it to 201), triglycerides up too much (from 199 in Nov., today 210, highest I have records on was 161), LDL needs to go down, too (and HDL I have trouble getting up, due to lousy w**k schedule and my own inertia both interfering with my getting exercise). I strongly suspect that my poor numbers have a lot to do with my eating at the local restaurant where I use WiFi often (instead of eating the healthier stuff I have in the fridge at home. Okay, need to stop talking and start doing what I need to do.
So I guess, now that I have my breakfast done, it's time for me to walk home and get some exercise...

Lot of things to do today, and I do not feel like doing a thing. Have to cash in $250.00 in quarters and go give Bank Of Stupid it's blood money. Have to run to St Louis, dump the trash, go to the store, take Shady to the Vet and I am sure Sue will add some more stuff.

Far as Shaddy I am preparing for the worst. At 9 years old she has lived 2 years longer than average for Wolfhounds. Bigger the breed, the shorter there life is. The spring in her step and sparkle in her eye's are gone. I hope I am wrong, but still not real hopeful.

Still alive here, Had 2 weeks of call at work and I have been trying to get a old radio fixed for a customer on top of all the other stuff. Got the radio working last night and will get it out the door prob Monday. we need some rain here. It is supposed to rain today, but it seems to stop at the river each day.

I checked up on the Fs that I have stripping and some progress has been made. I found an extremly stiff nylon brush in the garage and tried scrubbing with it. After a few minutes scrubbing each shell, the paint is about 90% gone. The new brush is stiff enough to even clean out the louvers, vents, screens and the cast fans. After the 3 in the tub are done, I'm sticking the F7A that I finished yesterday back in to clean out the screens. In preperation for the Fs to come out of the tub, I have been modifying DW F-unit detail kits (they are for athearns) for use on the stewarts. Takes a bunch of cutting and filling, but it looks good IMO. I did run into a couple snags so far. the F9A's shell developed a crack in the nose, the F3B (technically going to be an F7B) bent a stirrup and one of the DW striker plates broke. I fixed the DW plate with some super glue, and some really good plastic cement (plastruct cement rules, the ambroid stuff I have sucks) fixed the bent stirrup. The F9A's shell will be reglued and treated to some putty (I was going to sand down the molding lines anyways).

Nice day here in the Finger Lakes today. Currently 60°F with a high around 70°F later. It would be a grest day to get some outside stuff done, but the gout is acting up again! I thought it was going away a couple days ago, but it is now back to throbbing and very painful to step on the foot. Not getting worse, but just there! have a few errands THAT have to be done today, but will spend as much time as I can with my foot elevated.
Chris, All they said in the article was the Weather people had determined it was a Microburst.... and was not a tornado. Maybe it was the Aliens??? I dunno....... Galaxy would, I bet! BTW, where is Galaxy?

Jim- Haven’t used Terro. I don't think. I have used many brands over the years and most work about as well as the next providing it’s the time release stuff that they can carry back to the mound and dutifully feed the Queen. This one is just unusually tough. Normally they show coming from one location and then some place else the next and usually only two or three times from spring through summer. This has showed from the same place like four times so far. Gone now for this is the second or third day, so we’ll see what happens after the rain.
Curt- Sorry to hear about your......situation. Hope they can drain it soon.

Work Front Big pain in the caboose evening. Two pain in the butt jobs late, then 5 minutes before closing person needed a new tire. Yet the pain in the butt jobs where still in the shop! Bottom line I walked out the door at 10:25. But made no real money, think I made $25.00 in commission.
I am going about this job all wrong! I had both Cliff (MIT making what I use to make) and Craig to train. Wanted to show them how to do something. But where are they? Not in the shop, not in the bathroom, not in the offices? Oh silly me, they are sitting in the Customer Lounge Watching TV!
Sorry I never knew Ed, I must have joined the dinner crowed after he stopped posting. Still sad to hear of his passing.

Very sorry to hear about ED. I never met him other than seeing his comments here in the Diner. Reading the various tributes, I wish I had known him better.
VINCENT: I don't recall anything about the white putty being finer than the green...it seems to w**k a bit easier, then again it might have been a "fresher" tube. If 91% ETOH isn't doing the job stripping the shells, then I'd echo JEFF's advice to use a "plastic safe" stripper. Even then, I'd use it with caution. I had an Athearn GP38-2 shell melted into a piece of abstract art by a "plastic safe stripper" once. The vast majority of my projects are with "old" Athearn blue box (black plastic), Robins Rails, MDC Roundhouse (pre-Athearn take-over), etc. stuff so brake fluid w**ks just fine for me. It was the de-facto standard at the time. I guess the newer plastic compositions just can't handle it.
JIM: Thanks! Yes, the top photo of CNW 4291 was the first chop-nose I ever attempted. It turned out pretty well (Athearn wide-body), but the danged nose is a bit too low. It doesn't show much in the photo, but the windshield is pretty crude, made with styrene strips to fill the space. What tripped me up, and what might have made VINCENT's nose too low, was the cutting. The first cut is easy enough: just run the razor saw along the tops of the battery boxes. THAT cut comes out nice and straight. Cutting off part of the remaining nosepiece left me with a bit of un-eveness. The ensuing filing I think is what got me. By the time I did my third chop nose (CC 1601) I got smart and laid the styrene strip down. I just didn't go thick enough . Naturally, I made the same mistake on the CNW 4547 (chopnose Geep 9), the fourth and to date, final chop job. If'n I get some P2K geeps, I'll give it another go and see about replacing the earlier efforts.
RAY: Did any of the weather geeks say anything about a "bow echo" or derecho going through? Or are they dead-set on it being a microburst? Just curious, seems everytime we've had damage like THAT around here, it was blamed on a bow echo (derecho). Definitely sounds like some form of straight-line wind, THAT is for sure!
CURT: Wishing you the best of luck with things, I guess a temp. drain means a little vacation time for you. I'll bet the ER staff was a bit surprised to see you as a customer rather than making a delivery. Based on the nature/location of your ailment, I'm guessing you'll be the butt of a few jokes....
CUDAKEN: Rerun sends his best wishes to Shaddy. Just a thought, if he's eating human food OK, but turning his nose to dog food...have you tried a different brand? I'm just thinking if he's sick, he wouldn't want any food, human or otherwise. Rerun got to where he wouldn't touch his Purina stuff. We got a small bag of Pedigree and he loves it. Just a thought.

Vincent .... The car you asked about is a Burlington MB24 branch line Baggage/RPO car. It is a 40' long car. I made it from a kit manufactured by NKP Car Company. They sell prototypically correct passenger cars for several different railroads. They sell by internet. I just checked their website, and the MB24 is on sale. The silver-painted diner is from a NKP Car Company kit, too. Five of my passenger cars were from their kits. . .... Regarding DCC, I have been using it for part of the layout for over a year. Now, I am doing the whole layout, and that means I have several locomotives awaiting conversion to DCC.
Flip, JimCG and/or Darren: I hope you can express condolences from all of the Diners if that is okay with you. Thanks. .... I suppose I should have included a reefer for Ed's OJ in the train. . ...

School was a bust because I couldn't get into the computers due to an IT glitch. The IT deparment is supposed to have someone there during school hours, but no one was there today. On the way back I got some pizza from Pizza Hut.
I looked at the Fs I've been stripping when I got back. The MILW F7A was pretty much done, save for little bits of silver and black stuck in the grills, fans, and louvers. I don't think those are coming off as scrubbing doesn't seem to affect them. It looks like whomever painted them painted the black, then the orange. The 2 MGR/L&A F9s are a bit more stubborn though. They've been soaking since at least noon and the black has barely came off. I'll let the other MILW F and the 2 F9s soak overnight and scrub them in the morning (aparently I forgot I had that day off)
Garry, What's with the short baggage car in the first picture in your post? Is that the Walther's piker and oscar thing, or is that an actual prototype? Congrats on your dirst DCC run on the layout.
Local wildfire: The smoke isn't as bad as yesterday, but it still lingers a bit. Yesterday the wind was blowing it towards my area, looks like it's going the other way today. The news says it'll likely keep burning for days, if not weeks. The airspace above the fire is now a no-fly zone for military airplanes (seems kinda strange) and they are preparing for possible evacuations.
