Hi Diners,

Ken directed me here to see the roundhouse photos.  There is also a separate thread he started on the subject.

The photo of the first Roundhouse is the B&O Roundhouse in East St. Louis.  There is no doubt about this, it is well documented and you can find many references on the web.

The Sandborn map is not of the same roundhouse.  It is of the Frisco Roundhouse several miles away accross the Mississippi in St. Louis MO, a bit West of down town.   This was demolished in the 20's and the location can still be identified because of the street names, but there is no evidence of the roundhouse anymore.

The photo of the foundation closer to the river is probably the remains of the GM&O roundhouse.

Good Morning All,

We went from high 50’s and 60’s all week to just above freezing, I’m ready for June!

Barry, London, ONT and London England is not confusing.  What are confusing to me is the Canadian address and postal codes.  I have traveled the United States, Europe, South America, Central America, and SE Asia and done very well with address, but give me an address in Canada and I’m completely lost.

CN Charlie, not sure you would make good consul working with both Horribly Oversized and N-visible scales at the same time, LOL.

Terry, I’ll be thinning a few boxcars, gondolas, and 4 bay hoppers.  I’m re-painting the hoppers so if you’re interested send me an email and we can go from there.  I was going to letter the hoppers in BLE, but if you’re interested in painted undecorated let me know before tomorrow morning.

Jim, I only have a sampling of western roads that interchange in Chicago and a few Canada railroad examples. CB&Q, WP, ATSF, SP, FFF, PFE, CNW, CP, CN, CASO, ON, NWONT, EJ&E, IHB, CEI, etc…

Curt, I sent you the info on my friends Brass PRR locomotives to help you out, he isn’t hurting for money he is just cleaning house on a few things.  My friend needs to join Locomotive Anonymous; I bet he has 10 storage tubs full of locomotives just at the club layout.  It wouldn’t surprise me to see 10 locomotives pushing 1 boxcar and 1 caboose around the club layout, LOL. He has several Stewart Locomotive kits still in the boxes…

Garry, that Hudson is awesome; I’ve never owned anything that detailed.  Brass always has been so far out of budget reach until this one.

Morning All,

Flo I would love a second cup of coffee please. Today plans are to put down ground cover and ballast the coal yard. I will probably paint the POP rocks also. My son and  I need to finish up in the side yard also. MOH wants to go to Kohl's tonight after work.

Lee- Thanks for thinking of me. I wish I had more disposable income now (don't we all). I didn't want to Email him as I would feel I was leading him on.

Everyone have a good day.

Good morning, Chloe. I will have my coffee in a NP mug, please.

Last night we went to a slide show of climbing in Vietnam.  My friend spent a month over there.  Interestingly enough, the war we call the Vietnam War, they call the American War.  It is amazing what a different perspective will do.  Nice climbing though.

Garry,  Is your cable car a functioning loco?

Curt,  Which coaling tower is that?

Galaxy,  You have had trouble with electronic banking, and I have had trouble with the mail being lost or sent to the wrong address.  Any time you deal with people, there is a chance for error.

I ran out of scale lumber on my car shop.  The hobby shop where I purchase my scale lumber is no longer in business.  I guess the car shop will be on hold for a while.

Back to painting.

Sue

Howdy ....

It's good to see so many diners here! I continue enjoying the international "collection" of good people here!

Speaking of collections, Lee .... Your friend evidently has an abundance of locomotives. Actually, I have too many also as I am learning when I am installing decoders. For a while I justified a lot of railroads because so many interchanged with the old CB&Q. I have very slowly thinned out my fleet.  ... Too many of us must try to remember we are "Model Railroaders" and not "Model Locomotivers" .

I posted more of my work in progress in WPF.

The last building I made was this neat little super market from a City Classics kit. The secret to making it a good model is to very carefully paint all pieces before assembly. (Actually, that is the case with all of the buildings.)

Sue ... To answer, actually these are street cars. They are Bachmann models with DCC. If I install real trolley wires, the cars have a little toggle switch to change powere so it is both from the wire and the rails.

TGIF Modelers!

It's 29F and Sunny in the Mile High city with highs in the 60's for the weekend and 70 by Monday.  Got some of the mud and dust off the 4x4 yesterday from travels to a friends house in the rural east side of town where the streets are still dirt roads.  Have a great Day and Weekend!

Ulrich .... The Bluenose II is on display at the Maritime museum in Halifax, Nova Scotia. We saw it when we were there. It's a very nice museum (Correct, Der John?)
...normally yes, but not a "static Display" - she's a working vessel (if tours and such are work Smile, Wink & Grin)  I say normally because for t he last while she's been in Lunenburg undergoing a from-the-ground-up complete re-build.

http://blog.eastcoastproud.com/2011/03/21/rebuilding-of-bluenose-ii-in-lunenburg-ns-webcams-video/

IIRC, that site shows the entire process up to the present. If it doesn't I'll leave it to those interested to find the site that does!Pirate

On N scale mermaids, I wonder if they'd be worth the effort - you'd need a whole harbour full to make a decent fry-upMischief - and with all the beer etc. necessary to see that  many, I doubt that getting them to stay in the pan would be easy.Clown

Hello all

Grumble grumble

Have a migraine..its actually a continuation of one from yesterday. The new med seems to have taken away the pain, but leaves me sleepy. Worked yesterday, then when the rains set in I knew why I had one...the weather had changed. BINGO. Today I took another new med pill will see if it works today too.

MOH is off to do banking..goes out faster than it comes in Sigh  y'all probably know the routine!

LAST PAYMENT on the furnace went out today! HOO RAY! The Prime A-1 bank who financed it can shoved their expected accrued interest out the window..we paid it off in the 6 month free interest period, {but interest accrues on outstanding balance at 29.99%!!} We own it now!

Good feeling.

MOH and I got into an argument this AM...Kia delaer is trying a new Kia sales blitz and MOH wants to go look like we did last year. I said NO we cannot afford a new {or newer} vehicle right now and I don't want to again disappoint the saleman whne we don't buy. SO we got into an arguement. MOH drives the older vehicle teh 98 carvan to work to spend the mileage on the older vehicle and "save" the new one. Oh well, wants a newer vehicle.

Good Evening!

The sun is setting. Petra has just "released" our notebook for my use and has gone into the kitchen to prepare supper. I don´t know what we will be having, but it already smells nice.

I was able to do some w*rk on the "Bluenose", despite a heavy migraine attack. Seems as if I am discovering a pattern in those attacks - every time there we get close to or are at full moon - bingo!

Used the last drops of gas for a shopping run. We have a small department store, which is closing their toy department. I was able to get three little cans of acrylic paint for just 1 Euro, that´s 90% off!  It´s naval blue, red and white, the colors I need the most for the boat!

Here is were I am in assembling the kit:

Still needs a lot of sanding, plus many more of those tiny details that come with the kit. Hard to believe that it is about twice the size of one of my steam locos.

The smell from the kitchen is getting too tempting - I guess Petra will be ready to serve supper in a moment.

CU & have a good one!

Good morning. It's 48° and wet. The high will be 55°, mostly cloudy and wet. Chance of rain 50%. NE wind 15 to 20 mph gusting to 30.

Nothing planned for today. Didn't get much sleep due to storms. I'll be trying to rectify that today.

Have either of you seen of heard of the "Suze Orman Show"; this woman is constantly showing people how they can't afford things and why.  My wife watches the show all the time and she maintains a tight budget and if we don't have the CASH to pay the Credit Card bills off each month it doesn't get bought.  The last time we made "payments" on anything was the house.  It's tough to get on a serious budget but once you have every cent of every paycheck allocated to certain buckets you find most $$$ arguments go away very quickly; there is either money in that bucket or there isn't.  Sure things can happen which can cause you to tap your emergency funds but that is the idea of having one and then you work to rebuild that fund quickly.  Were not rich but we work very hard to never be in debt either.

I have found, like I often mention, that when the weather/barometric pressure changes, I get them. I swear its like going up and down in an jet airplane to me...the changing pressure outside gets to me...and i often describe it as "being like in a airplane" or having "airplane head". ALso just changing elevations on ills and mountains without getting your ears to pop would also describe the pressure changes I fel in my head. I swear.

I totally understand, I was just tossing out a way to maybe help explain to MOH why a car right now may not be in the picture using a third party.  Right now we are down to 1 car and I understand the schedule issues of Work / Dr. Appt.s all too well when my wife needs to see a Dr. and I'm at work.  My wife lost her job several years ago and since was seriously hurt with permanent spinal damage.  I've been laid-off twice in the past 10 and also in the hospital badly sick but we have been lucky to have enough reserves to stay above water and get through them.

As always, my thoughts to you and MOH Sigh

Hello all from lovely Lancaster PA!

I'd like a few slices of the artisan pizza with sausage and good veggies.

CN-Charlie: I might go to Toronto this summer when a friend of mine visits her family up that way :)

I'm heading to work around 4:15, and asked to get let off a bit early so I can give a ride to a friend later. But that should work out well. As of this writing my coworker has agreed to relieve me early. He comes in at 9:30 and will come in around 8:45 instead.

I started work on another freight car kit this afternoon, working 12-hours a week has given me much time for that, it's an Intermountain PS-1 decorated for the Virginian Railway. I actually have another already assembled, but it had been assembled poorly by the previous owner, something I only really got to see once I got a close look at it. I don't mind replacing missing parts or even doing a little paint touch-up, but it's not one I'm dying to try and rehab, as it looks that bad with numerous glue spots and many missing or broken parts. Maybe in time it'll be worth truly rehabbing but that's not going to be anytime soon.

 Afternoon Fellow Dinners!

 Thank you Flo. Beer

Spent a lot of today reading about roundhouses. I all so look up the old yard my Grand Father House over looked. Boy things had changed in 40 years!

Work has been calling, but nobody's home! Big Smile My guess is they want me to come into work. Well after Wednesday they can go Philips's Head them self's! Dave jumped my butt about a few things Wednesday. OK, I made a mistake and selected a wrong car from a customer work history and it easy to do. Told me to stop making mistakes!

OK, I am fine with that, I made a mistake! But the day before He keyed $1500.00 worth of work for a Ford Pick Up on a BMW ticket? Laugh My guess is he made a mistake on the Schedule, we have a radio ad that started Wednesday and they are busy today and need help. If he had asked me Wednesday if I would have work today, I would have said yes. Heck if he had called Thursday, I would have said yes!

 See you all later, Ken

Mornin'...... Ah,  Afternoon?  Looks at watch......  Ahem!  Evening folks!  Been one of those days here!

Chloe I'll have  a hot turkey sandwich and a trip to the salad bar along with a cup of decaf (dark raost if ya got it).

I think I am finally through upgrading, updating, hooking things up, moving data, using words my mommy would wash my mouth out w/ soap for using, and all those other things I have been doing for most of the last week!  I would have been done two days ago if I had been able to get a clean copy of all the files on the old G5.  Cloning the laptop did much of the w*rk, but having to go back and check every folder for missing files...... I almost shut down the G5 last night and took it all apart when I decided to check my office files.  All the financial files for the MLK for the last 4 years were missing!!!  THAT is when I decided I better check everything twice before I recycle the old girl.  In fact I will hang onto it for a bit so if I find anything else, I hopefully can still recover it.  Of course since I bought the new iMac the G5 has been running just fine......  Sometimes very slow, but hasn't hung up except once I think.

Darrell, I'm with you.  I do my best to live simply most of time, and pay cash if at all possible.  THAT is why I was putting off upgrading the computer until last next fall.  I could easily have the cash on hand.  Fate didn't work my way and since I have to get new hearing aids, the cash will go for THAT.

Have a great evening everyone!

Evening All,

Flo I would like a cup of coffee please while MOH ordersPizza for dinner. Everyone is invited to share some.

I finished the coal siding today. There were about half a dozen small 15 minute jobs to do. The longest one was the ground cover and ballasting. I used a combo of WS mixed Green with mine run coal and cinders. To save time I brushed 1:1 Elmer's on the board then sprinkled the green ground cover. I then ballasted with cinders and sprinkled mine run coal on the ground cover. I sprayed everything with Iso then used ballasting glue on everything.I repainted the coaling tower a flat brown (rattle can), put down the painted rocks and installed 2 ground throws. It sounds like a lot but it only took a couple of hours.

I have a 3' x 1' area between the passenger station and the coaling tower. I think I am going to put in a dirt road with trees and rocks (of course) to a office for the coaling tower. This area is the old double freight siding that I removed. I also want to put a large pond in by the farm.

Sue- It is the Cornerstone wood coaling tower. I believe it took me about 4 hours to build it.

Ulrich- That is going to be a nice looking boat when it's done.

Garry- Excellent downtown picsBow.

Lion- I really enjoy your subway thread.

Here is a K4s pushing 2 coal cars to the coaling tower.

Prayers for all those in need and I hope everyone has a good night.

Evenin'!

Janie, just a decaf please.  I'll be sitting in back by the stove for a while.

Been a long day, and have solved all the problems  of the computer upgrade except for why my new Epson printer won't print.  System Profiler says something is there, but the print driver is grayed out even although I installed what Epson said and did it exactly the way they said....  I send an email to the tech gurus there.

Have an early morning tomorrow.  Have to be at RIT in Rochester for rules class for the museum before 9AM....  Hour drive from here.  Then later in the afternoon there is a party for my nephew's newly adopted little girl.  They have had her for about a year and a half, but the adoption was final mid February.  I am most happy for the little girl as she will be growing up with a wonder family around her.  They are wonderful people!

I think I best be heading to get some Zzz pretty quick.

Have a great night, and prayers to all in need!

Greetings from Titusville,

Been back in Fla the last two days and picked up my stuff this AM. Yesterday Kiwi and I toured the Kennedy Space Center, Today was credentials for access to the test facility tomorrow and an air show at the Titusville Air Museum. Between showers it was awesome. Besides lots of aircraft from when I served, there was a great gathering of WWII vintage aircraft. Notable were 4 B-25's more than I've ever seen at once and a B-29. We saw the Mitchells take off and fly in formation and I have to say they are majestic in flight. Perhaps because we're used to jets and their speed and manuverability, the prop planes and especially the bombers have a majesty to their movement lacking in smaller aircraft. Nice day!

If you get a chance, and I know some of you already have, check out Lions' thread over on main street. He's really great with his composition and the pics are super.    All for now, Lots to do for tomorrows' test day.    CUL, J.R.

Good evening ....

Lee, Barry, Curt ... Thanks for the comments.

Der John .... Lunenburg might be the town where there was a very good sea food restaurant we ate at. I think it was called something like "The Fish Factory", but I'm not at all sure about that. Interesting the Bluenose II os being rebuilt.

Ulrich ... Nice start on the model ship!

Jeff ... Your baggage car needs some weeds around it too like teh real one. Maybe you can use a small amount of real weeds.

Local news here is a fire two nights ago destroyed a downtown building in the little town. It closed 3 businesses including a restaurant.

The collapsed bridge will have a replacement span by this summer according to the governor.
