Good Morning Folks!

Is this really July 31st? When I look outside, it feels more like end of October. It is a gray and wet day - one of the coldest since they started recording the weather.

Flo, stack of pancakes, maple syrup, sausages, bacon, scrambled eggs, toast, a tall glass of OJ and a tank car load of coffee, please. This is Sunday and I need to recharge my batteries for the job of completing my module.

Stan - it´ll make a nice birthday present, not only for Garry. Boy, I wish I had your talent Bow

Paul - I bet you could do with a little less temperature - mind sending some of it our way?

Joe - we can´t be all smart and bright, but we are all children of God. Be easy with that girl!

Barry - "MMMM....if a dog had wings and he flew into a tree would that make him bark?" You know there is a type of bat which is called " Flying Dog" in German? They don´t bark.

Ray - the picture of the rusty bridge you posted gives me thoughts. It looks pretty much like the one on my bridge module - should I add a little more rust to make it look like the one on your picture?

John (derJohn5997) sent an email to me - he is having problems to post or reply on the forum. Sounds very much like the problem other folks are having.

TTFN & have a good one!

Just a quick update on the module before I´ll go for a mid-day nap!

It´s coming along, but still requires a lot of touch-up w*rk.

The rock surface looks to glossy (how come, I use a dull color). But you can se where the waterfall will go.

We are going up to 82F but feeling like 102F today...lots of sticky days for our viewing pleasure..

Today I am proposing to find some of my photos that were not so furry to post up here...

Flo, I'll just have a coffee for now please..I'll be at the RC for a bit...

Good Morning,

Curt, I’m glad those are working out, much cheaper than ordering something like that online.

Didn’t make it to the layout yesterday; the drain under the kitchen sink decided to start leaking, replaced everything from the strainer to the wall then I found the cold water supply line was leaking so I replaced the hot and cold water lines as well.  All this only took 3 trips to Home Depot.  Would have been an easy chore; but, the drain pipe from the wall is 1” too high because I have an extra fitting for the dishwasher drain.

Stan, I have a BLI T-1 and so far I’ve had it pulling 80 cars without any problems.

I vote that we move the dinner to Wisconsin or maybe Minnesota for August to save on the air conditioning. Maybe in in four months when the Sn*w starts flying we can move to Florida on one of Curt’s sidings.

Good morning. It's 76° and sunny. The high will be 98° and there's a 30% chance of rain this afternoon.

Nothing in particular on the schedule today. I may get some layout work done later today. Any bets on if I get it done without interruption? Seems like anytime I get in the middle of something or I'm performing an assembly that can't be stopped until finished someone has the itch to call or come knocking. Fortunately there's no critical steps or complex assemblies to be done but someone will probably decide that I need to be doing this or that for them. Any work on the layout will likely be general cleanup. It's surprising how fast clutter can build up.

Good morning guys! I might have enough time to hit the blackberry bush this AM before we open the museum at noon. I'd like to get another bucket full before the birds have their way with them. Tomorrow we have a tour scheduled with another historical society . I'll have to straighten up the place before  they arrive. I allowed my son Alex to get the 4 big totes of Geo Trax trains and track out from the museum freight house and set it up in the baggage room.  Families with small children all end up playing with him. I'll have to get that stuff hauled back to the freight house today. Maybe we could get it all set up somewhere permanently someday, possibly in the freight house once we get it restored. Our freight house is my next big project.

Lee- I think our T1 would probably pull more on its own but one of the problems we have encountered on our layout is a hidden S curve in a tunnel where we actually go around an addition to the original layout. It's a real pain. We've been able to elevate the curves enough to handle our biggest steam locos, and the PRR T1 makes it through, but I think the tightness of the reverse curve causes it to bind just enough to slightly stall it. Then there's a 2% grade just a short distance from the curve on the westbound mainline. 80 cars would be impressive to see! Our all time record is from the C&O allegheny with a train of 63 cars. She probably could have hauled more, but the weight behind the lead cars causes an implosion on the grade. Believe it or not, the MTH triplex could only handle about 25 cars on its own. Mostly because the third set of drivers are dummies. I wish there was a way to install a driveshaft to make it work, that would be a sight!

Garry- I'm glad you like it! All of my paintings are for sale. Maybe we could work out a barter for some HO items! I think it'll be safe here for now unless I get a midwesterner through the museum looking for CB&Q stuff. That is not likely to happen, but you never know.

Jeff- That's a great weathering job on the Cotton Belt boxcar, one of the best I've ever seen! Don't forget to have the car dept attach some stirrups to it, or the train crews will refuse to handle it! I know I have a few out there in need of some as well. They always seem to make it into my pics or videos.

Well, I'm gonna try to get some berries now. Everyone have a good day!

 Morning Folks

 Flo, Coffee Please.

Jeffery Stan bet me to it, but your Cotton Belt Car looks out standing.

Joe There is nothing like working with a coworker that is not up to speed.

Ulrich Like what you have done so far. Looking forward to you telling us how you made the water fall after it is done.

Well, have a half hour before I have to get ready for work, think I will run the trains some.

Morning All,

What a lazy day. MOH went to get a pedicure. Have to remember to call my brother for his birthday today. I may try to go to the LHS today but have to call first. Ours at home is closed on Sunday.

Ulrich- That module is looking great. After you paint the water area with the final color I would think it Will be fine. Most water scenes that I have seen are a little glossy anyway.

Lee- Your technical help was greatly appreciated. I plan on using IR sensors and Logic Tech control boards to control the PL signals on the mains . To save money I was thinking of manually controlling my dwarf signals. The initial problem I come up with is that the one light (bottom right/left depending on signal orientation) has to be wired to be on all the time. A rotary switch might work if I can figure out the one light issue. When I get back home I will talk to the club electrical guy and see what he says.

The diner is always welcome to come set on one of my sidings when the rest of the country is under snow, it's too hot otherwise.

Everyone have a great day.

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I'll have a bowl of "old Phart" Cereal w/ blueberries, and lots of dark roast coffee in a R&GV RR mug.  please and Thank You.  Say, while I got you here, I notice THAT Bill's seat at the counter is empty again today?  He OK?  On vacation?  You don't say!  He wouldn't let a Moderator chase him out of here... would he?  Sure hope not!

Currently 80°F here in the Finger Lakes under hazy skies.  Will be going up to 87° this afternoon...  Gonna have to get out the watering hose tonight again, I guess.  Garden is sure growing!

Ulrich, on the bridge rust....  i guess it would depend on the era and the financial condition of the RR.  Back when I model (1925) steel bridges were kept painted and rust was kept at bay...  Gotta take care of THAT infrastructure you know.  Depression era, they went without much maintenance as did everything else.  The bridge I posted is still in use by the FGLK RR here in Geneva.  It was originally the NYC line coming into town.  I would say a touch of rust on the bridge in a couple of carefully chosen spots would add to the scene...  (How's THAT for a concise answer.....Whistling)  Another shot of the same bridge:

Have a great Sunday everyone!  (I know it is Sunday because the paper came in the morning and is the thicker one.....)

He surely has a gripe now and is fuming over being lambasted by the moderator. He sent me a PM Conversation about it. He sure is miffed. I sent a final one saying I hoped to see him in the morning, but, as you can see, he hasn't been showing up lately.

He DOES remember when Ryan got called on the carpet for  food pics, and we all know Ryan ducked out soon after his "trial by moderator". SO maybe we have lost Bill beyond all reasoning.

I have been known to warm people here  who are either psoting pics not RR related or for posting to many RR pics, that a moderator my jump onthem. WPF is a good place to post multiple pics, nto the diner as we get to many pages eating up bandwidth easily.

I didn't think the waitress pics were "unfamily friendly", but apparently the moderators thought so.

I will bet he is lurking though!

Good Morning!! Coffee and the Buffet please. Thank you.

Running a bit late. (shakes head) Out of puuuure curiosity, I just read the locked thread about……..never mind.

Mostly sunny, with a high near 91. Heat index values as high as 101

Good news, MIL got out of ICU last night and is in a regular room and is now up to a liquid diet. Better news is I did get to w**k on the layout a bit yesterday. I w**ked a little on the as of yet unprototypical land formation and I cleared a few things off the layout AND I ran a train just to see if it would still run around the track without any bad spots needing cleaning. That went well, but I need to get the buss wire ran the rest of the way and the feeders hooked into them. Train slows as it gets farther away from the power pack. Not a lot, but noticeable. Same thing happened on the last one. Then I added the feeders and the buss wire and the thing ran well. Hoping for the same here and I’m pretty sure it will as the actual track length so far is less than before. I’m using 14 gage solid copper wire for the buss so I should have nooooo problems with amps at anytime.

Ken- How do I make fried cabbage? Easy. Ask the wife to make it. Laugh Seriously, she isn’t here now (hospital ) so no recipe, but if I asked her it would be like “ Fry some chopped up bacon. Remove the bacon (and then she would tell you about how much of the fat to leave in the skillet. I suppose that would be how much you would like but would not be a set amout like so many tablespoons). Chop up a head of cabbage. Put it in the skillet and add some vinegar and some sugar. How much? Oh I don’t know enough to make it as sour or sweet as you want. Depends. I usually just put some in there until I think it’s enough. After the cabbage is cooked down put the bacon back in it, stir it all up and keep it warm long enough to warm the bacon back up if it needs to be.” I thik that is as close as you could get based on how it tastes when she makes it. Some times it’s greasier than others, (never too greasy though) sometimes it’s abit sweeter than others and sometimes it’s a bit vinegary-er than others. Ah, the beauty of home cooking.

Anybody that thinks about a bug zapper and a frog in the same sentence, is my kind of guy.Yes Laugh Thumbs Up

Jeff- I know it is useless for quoting, but I generally use the quick reply (still makes me chuckle. espesially in light of THIS post) in the lower right corner for most all my posts. I have IE8 and when I’m in the reply button, I can post well, but some actions cause a whacked out version to appear posted that requires me to edit (several times) and some things just don’t work right. Maybe FF just accentuates the problems with that function. Once again I will pass on your bet on getting disturbed. More often than not, that is why I do not get many things done. You and me hoss. Since we no longer have a… “jooob”, we apparently have plenty of time at the drop of a hat. Sigh

Ulrich- Oh yeah! Now you’re cooking with lard!

BILL! How in the heck am I suppose to know when I change days? One minute it’s night next thing I know POW! I’m well into the next day.

Yes I remember when Ryan and Bill were asked to stop posting non-RR related pictures..so frequently. (I believe it maaay have been Crandell who stopped in and clarified that as John W did this time.) Bill did disappear for a while and Ryan shortly after. I’ve talked to Ryan a couple times since and he assured me his absence was w**k related only. He understood the issues with the space.

Speaking of Ryan, he has been away without a check in too long. Come to think of it, not since that big ….weather thing in NC. Same with PC and where in the world is Jim (CG)??

Today, I must mow. Put it off long enough. Getting hotter now so…, it’s time. THEN, like Stan, I have to pick the Blackberries that are ready. If the birds get them and we don’t, Brenda will be visiting me in the hospital and dodging the police at the same time. Actually she wouldn’t be dodging the police.  All three of them would just laugh at the complaint and say “he should have got out there and picked her Blackberries. Don’t step out in front of a car and try to sue the driver for hitting you..

Then, if all goes as planned, the train room. GEE WHIZ HOW’D THIS GET SO LONG!!! I’d better shut up or they’ll close the door before I get my flapping jaws closed.

Ya’ll have a Great Day!!!

(two blasts on the whistle)

EDIT: Upon re reading this post after it posted, I realize that maybe my analogy regarding getting hit by the car may have been in bad taste considering Morgans post. Unfortunately I wrote that and had not really associated  what I wrote until after it was posted. I apologize.

Me again!

Made a big step forward with the module this afternoon. I lightly weathered the bridge, added catenary poles. While waiting for the glue to set (seems to be my favorite pastime), I tried my hand at the waterfall, using a technique I have seen in a German forum. It is actually quite simple, all you have to do is to apply a few beads of white glue on wax paper, let it set for maybe 10 minutes, then apply some structure with a tooth pick & let it dry thoroughly. After about 3 hours, I was able to peel it of the wax paper and just placed it where the waterfall is supposed to be. While not perfect, it already looks nice. I have not yet fastened it, but I might - that saves me the cost of the water effects. Tomorrow, I will take a few pics and present it to you to capture your opinion on it.

I did take a few shots of the module before adding the "waterfall" - here they are:

I am quite happy with it now - glad, that I did the rew*rk!

Hopefully, Bill isn´t to miffed, being told off by the mods for posting those pics. Although he is certainly not the most talkative guy around, I have gotten used to his morning greetings.

Todd - good to hear that your MIL is out of ICU. Continuing Angel for her recovery!

Ray - Japanese railroads usually display a "used, but not abused" state of repair. That excludes the decrepit look you see on some US roads.

Zoe, a mug of hot chocolate, please - it is a miserable and cold day here in the Arctic region!

Well, I will continue to post my photos. I took the vast majority of them and I have thousands to choose from so there shouldn't be a problem. Some weren't taken by me but are shots of my layout/property that were taken using my equipment under my direction.

"Graffitti" -- (tap tap, point point --> site rules)

That's another hot-button topic for Kalmbach. Please let's not dwell on this topic for long. (Kalmbach believes that discussions about "Grafitti" quickly leads to disagreements and also is discussion about "illegal" activities) However, please don't feel bad-- you can ask Tom & Crandell-- i've had at least TWO good threads on the topic pulled or locked (wistful grin)

Thanks,

Everybody. Let’s refresh our memories on the subject of the Forum Rules. It’s been a couple of years since I looked at them, and I think I should do so more often. I just looked them over.

Kalmbach owns this forum, and they set the rules. One of them says: “You are responsible for any activity that occurs under your screen name.”

 Please read these links.

Any thoughts?

Hope to see everybody in the August DIner. ... Cheers.

But, I have decided to keep posting my own photos as they are relevant to mrr...being as how there are prototypical scenarios in them....Whistling...unless someone reports them as abuse of bandspace....Dead

Thanks Garry.

I know we are all willing to obey the rules. And I also know we (not meaning to sound like a private club, but "we" being anyone who stops in and stays, so to speak, or just pops in for a comment or two) are kindly given certain leniencies to some of the rules. I believe because we have yet to have a disagreement because of that and are able to respect others views on many things. BUT I fear sometimes we may get a bit too comfortable with our little haven here. Now do I think what we say or post is wrong? No. But then again, even though the rules state that I am responsible for what I post, I'm a feared that the law may also hold Kalmbach as a knowledgeable publisher also accountable if they allow certain things to be posted on their site. Do I know this? No, but if you can sue McDonald's........

The family part just goes without saying for that is what Model Railoading is. A hobby for the whole family to enjoy and, like the family farm, the desire to pass it on from generation to generation is what we would like. Therfore younger folk are here and are, of course, very welcome. They are the future of MR. That being said and I have stated such before, I personally don't see anything wrong with the photos Bill posted. You can see worse than that, much worse, in the toy aisle at.....a big department store.  However, like a small leak in a pipe that loses less water than it's worth the trouble to fix, it eventually leads to a bigger leak, hence a bigger problem. More and more liberty will be taken and before you know it....it's out of control.

So, though I am as guilty as the next for violating the rules, and making comments I should not, I feel that we all should continue as we are and just, well, let the issue drop. This is the last day in.....wherever we are, I forget, and as soon as either Ulrich wakes up or someone else gets the Yellowstone (looks at Tom and winks) stoked and coupled for what appears to be a trip to BC somewhere. We start off just as happy go lucky as we were with out a comment on the latest, actually very minor, nudge nudge reminder. Sometimes it just needs to happen. We are human and we are all friends and as such we get a little comfy around each other.

I don't believe that Kalmbach (and I am purely speaking on my thinking here, definately not theirs. I have not spoke to them about this thread nor do I intend to in the future) is as concerned about our behavior as they are someone else who may exploite it and do the old juvenile "well, so and so did it...why can't I" THAT could cause many problems that the owners would not want to deal with, and I don't blame them. AS Moderaters, I'm sure they have had their share of those.

The reason I even bring this up is because i see some good hearted little remarks being made that you and I know are just said in a joking way, but could, if the reader does not know us well, take them as sarcastic or snide remarks and may not appreciate, or see the lighter side of it. I'd hate for the Owners to say " you know, we've given them the longest lead rope and they don't seem to appreciate it so....reign 'em in tight." I'm sure that the owners do in fact see the value of this thread in the social aspect of the hobby, shoot in his "see you later" letter in the editorial column, Andy even spoke highly about all the friends he has made because of the hobby and I'm sure when seeing them he talks about more than MR too. So, I don't think they want to stop it, but hey, you get jabbed enough big time out in the forums, and then when you've just about had enough, the little jabs get taken wrong and nailed too. Called collateral damage. Let's not become collateral damage. I'd miss you guys too much. Shoot, I can post a picture of something I've done and get some honest help and pointers to make it better from ya'll and not hear more about how untallented I am. Or that that boxcar wouldn't be in the era I model etc, etc, etc. You may think it, but at least you don't say it.  Laugh

Think I'll head downstairs and strip some wire out for the buss lines before Brenda gets home. Then it's BBQ time. Yes Ken, I will. It's a law in Williamsville. Wink

I'm a small town boy. A product of two people from even smaller towns. I don’t talk on topic….. I just talk. Laugh

  Evening Fellow Dinners!

Flo, Fruit Punch is a Frosted Monon Mug Please. Big Smile

"However, like a small leak in a pipe that loses less water than it's worth the trouble to fix, it eventually leads to a bigger leak, hence a bigger problem"

Todd, are you trying to say Bill Is A Drip? Smile, Wink & Grin

Thanks for the recipe as well. Far as taste, would how would you rate it on a scale of 1-10, 10 being great. Does your MIL have it patterned, if so you maybe in trouble.

Far as the powers above. While I saw nothing wrong with the waitress Bill posted (in fact I saw a lot right with them! Whistling) I understand why our host asked (guessing he was asked nicely) him to stop. I wonder why Bill is boycotting the dinner?

On the Dodge Charger Site there was a thread about showing our wife's and girl friends with our cars. Well, it did get out of hand and turned into a Wet Tee Shirt contest and then yet just little more.Stick out tongue Well it got locked for the same reason Bill was asked to stop.

Work Front Boy I am glad this month is over! Well I got bragging rights and finished 4th out of 10 sales people. Still did not make any commission but tickled not to be in last . Today was a good day with $2870.00 in sales. Only 3 people made any commission this month so i am not alone.

Thank Goodness for the Spiff money, made another $8.00 today from Sealy.

Ulrich Thumbs Up Boy that looks GREAT.

Todd, glad your MIL is getting better, should have said that the first time around.

Well, BBQ some more Chicken Quarter, ones last Thursday where out standing! I do cheat, I hate the grease fires when you BBQ chicken. So I use a foil turkey pan to cook them in. Spray it down with Pam so it does not stick and no fires. Still taste like BBQ, but no fires!

 See you all later.
