Afternoon. Black coffee please.

Just got off the phone with Walthers. The box I got had a hole punched through and was missing some ground cover I ordered, woman was apologetic and sent a new container out. My mom's going to the post office to send some stuff off and is going to look into it.

I have thought about looking for another place to get stuff but after this deal with Walther's customer support, well, I'm staying there.

Inch-congrats, your new little one looks very healthy.

Gooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooood Afternoon.

Wow. Miss a few days...miss a lot. As always, best wishes to those in need and/or who have family members in need...seems to be a lot of THAT going on lately.

Coffee. I doubt I'd know a "good" cup of coffee if it was poured down my throat. I know a firefighter/paramedic in Cedar Rapids who likes his coffee so strong it could theoretically dissolve a spoon...and (somehow) thick enough a spoon could stand up in it.Huh? He used to w**k in the wastewater treatment plant at Amana Refrigeration...could be he had a little too much "exposure to fumes."

CURT: I see you had a run-in with a Doc. Been there, done THAT. I called those little moments of doctor-paramedic love "Johnny Gage moments" in honor of the times (particularly in season six of 'EMERGENCY!') when paramedic Gage would go nose-to-nose with Dr. Morton. My last "moment" resulted in my being canned the next day. Funny, I was taught from First Responder on THAT if you "always act in the best interest of your patient, you'll be fine." Yeah....what-ever. THAT doctor's wife is on the school board I cover now. I like her. I have no quarrel with her. But...the good Doc better hope I don't meet him in a dark place...Pirate

Gee. I hope I'm not BORING anybody here...wouldn't want to do something like THAT.

ULRICH: I don't know what to tell you on THAT module...I agree the ruler-straight back is a bit...well, ruler-straight. I liked the various ideas you showed where you proposed cutting a...what's the word?...heck; re-shaping it. I don't know about a waterfall...only because I haven't the foggiest notion of how to create one. I'm still having THAT dream of little N-scale modules wrapping around and back and forth and what-not in my RR room with a pair of branchlines in SW Iowa... Thank you NOT!Smile, Wink & Grin

Have I bored anybody yet?

***NOTE FOR THE POWERS THAT BE*** I hereby vow, swear and certify THAT any photos I post in this here Diner are all shot by me, and I am the copyright owner. There is but two exceptions: I tacked up a pic of a halftrack last year...but gave due credit to the source, as I would expect from anybody else using a photo of mine...uh, guys in the Diner excepted! Hey, it's an ego boost when somebody around here likes my stuff enough to a) save it, and b) tack it up again later! I also tacked up a Bloom County comicstrip...I guess I'll know there's a problem if I find Bill the Cat (circle with R inside it) hacking up hairballs on my doorstep...

If I haven't bored anybody yet...I'll just have to try harder.

Had a busy week at w**k: Spent five (5) hours at the Johnson County Fair on Monday, went to Des Moines Tuesday and Wednesday for a pair of State Baseball Tournament games...darn-near got cooked in the process with 110 degree heat index. I'm back there tomorrow for at least one Championship game, might have a second, will find out later this evening. Big Boss wants me to take "the company car," seems my mileage this time around about gave the poor guy a stroke.

Bored yet?

I'll have me a seat at the RC and see if I can bore somebody else...

Chris

Afternoon folks!

Flo, just a decaf for me...  What?  you have a special on Mocha Carmel Mint Iced coffee...???  Eeeeewwww!!!  NO THANK YOU!!!  (Makes me want to go wash my mouth out just saying stuff like THAT...)  No, I like coffee....  Real honest to goodness coffee!  Not that kiddy stuff they serve in the woossey nouveau socialite placers....  Eeewwww.. (Spits into spittoon on floor)  Decaf please...  In a R&GV RR Mug, real cream and sugar please as well....  (spits again)  WhistlingWhistlingWhistling  OK, done havin' fun at Joes expense.  Give Joe another cup of whatever THAT stuff is he's been sipping this afternoon.

Have the first half of the roof basically done with all the rolled galvanized roofing glued in place.  I will do some "weathering of the roof and the outside Smoke Jack tonight and get a photo or two.  I will only have to put in place the Main Doors to the Engine House and fabricate some hinges to have it finished for judging.  May get some of THAT done tonight as well.

We got just under a half inch of rain so far today!  Very, very much needed.  Still cloudy and we could get another shower......

Barry, glad to hear your SIL has come through her surgery OK.  Hope she can make a complete recovery.  I will keep her (and your family) in my prayers.

Here's another bridge for everyone:

What Bill?  Copyright?  What about it?  Oh!  I took this one myself, so there better not be any problem! Grumpy

Later!

Chris:  Your tale of the firefighter/paramedic whose coffee would dissolve a spoon dragged a long-forgotten memory out of the depths.  Back in 1968 I was a brand new and very green technician trainee with the power company.  The technician I was following took me to one of the nearby generating stations and after doing some work there, we went to the station's electrical shop for coffee.  The technician warned me that the electrician, an old-timer, served very strong coffee.  He wasn't kidding!  He had a percolator sitting on a hot plate.  The coffee was the colour of tar and almost the same consistancy.  I think he used a knife to cut off the flow when pouring it into mugs.  No amount of cream or sugar would cut the taste of that brew.  I found out later that he would just add more water when it got low and throw in more grounds on top of what was already there and keep it percolating all day.  Once a month or so he'd steam clean the inside of the pot once it built up a dark coating then complain about the taste of the coffee for a week afterwards.  I think he had invented a form of espresso coffee before espresso coffee became popular.  He was the only one who actually liked that wicked brew and the only one who could drink a full mug of it.  He was always amused by the reactions of people to his coffee.  He was one of those interesting characters that a person occasionally encounters in life.

I remember those. Mine is one of the newer ones with a can motor. It's not DCC or even DCC ready but all I need it to do is hold down a shelf in the display rack. I've run it a few times. It's smooth and quiet and can pull quite a bit.

I don't know about the halftrack pic, BUT the  Bloom County comic strip WOULD have been HEAVILY Copywritten.

Yes, NOW I am bored....

"Unfortunately, just GIVING the "due credit to the source" without THEIR "express written permission" CAN get you into trouble, and possibly our hosts, too."

Well (clear full, happy toads swimming in it) GALAXY, I'm just going to bank on the "fair use" theory...since I'm not making a dime off of those images, and I doubt our benevolent hosts are either. But...those same benevolent powers THAT be may also exercise their discretion and remove said objects if they so desire.

I've got enough other stuff to keep me awake at night!

And, THAT said...copyright is kind-of a big deal for a photojournalist...Smile, Wink & Grin Heck, I've had some of my stuff "lifted" by the school district I cover, and placed on their website (thanks Clipper football!). When THAT EDITOR finds out, she just asks THAT they kindly give us a credit line. Hasn't happened yet, but I'm sure they'll get around to it someday...Whistling

*sigh* Now I have w**k to do...my Iowa City West High Trojans were defeated 4-1 in a Class 4A Semifinal at the State Baseball Tournament in Des Moines. Still gotta go there tomorrow for the Solon Spartans in their Class 3A Championship battle.

Still can't find THAT Holy Hand Grenade...might come in kinda handy around here...

Evening All,

Had some frustrating times on the layout today. The DCC system kept shorting for lack of a better word. Power was cycling on/off  and the AR-1 kept cycling. At first I thought it was a power drain (3 AMP system) as I had 8 loco's sitting in different places on the layout. I pulled everything off except a H10-44 and my 2 K4s. I was then able to keep power on. I then ran the K4s in a consist and when the rear unit went over a switch the power cycled again. I pulled that one off, then tried the front one again with no problems. I ran the good loco around the layout several times with freight cars on both mains without issue. I went to run the other K4s to test it but couldn't get it to work, so I will have to take it into the club and do some testing on it. I also did about a hour of switching and testing with the H10-44 which I enjoyed.

Tomorrow MOH and I are going to Naples FL to a timeshare (already paid  for) until next Friday. Should be a fun time. I will be bringing my laptop with me along with the latest Clive Cussler book..

Chris- That MD made a complaint to my department and the Capt. I work for did a investigation in which I was found not at fault for my actions as they were IAW our county protocols. The Disney manager onscn backed my actions also.

Jim- Angel I am saying prayers for your wife.

Jeff- Hope you are feeling better. I was actually surprised to see the photo of the 2-10-2. I thought you had all diesel's.

Everybody have a good evening. Prayers for those in need.

 Hello Fellow Dinners.

Flo, some Fruit Punch Please in a Frosted Monon Mug. Old habits die hard! Whistling

Work Front While this month is pretty much done with, at leas I am not in last places! Had a good day today with $2700.00 in sales. While I will not see a dime of commission off it. I sold 2 Mattress with Spiff Money. Big Smile Between the 2 of them I will get a extra $26.00 on my Sealy Card, with the balances of $9.56 I will have a extra $35.56 for next week. So we might be able to afford some food next week as well!

Sealy Spiff Money While I don't make a lot off selling one of there mattress in spiff money it does add up. So far this year with the 2 mattress I sold today I will have made a extra $599.00.

Giving up the good stuff. OK, my wife complained I drank to much Diet Dew and Beer. Now she is complaining I am drink to much Coffee, Fruit Punch and Lemonade? I am drinking the Wal Mart version of Crystal Lite at $1.86 a can and each can holds 5 packs and makes 10 quarts. At work I mainly drink water, about 2 to 3 liters a day.

Berry How long before your SIL is out of the hospital?Glad things went OK.

Inch Congrats on the Grand Baby, how many does that make now?

Todd Glad things are looking up for Brenda's mother. Your family has had a tuff streak health wise.

Monon Jim Glad to see you back in the dinner, just wish you had better news. With them catching the lump early I am sure she will be fine. Would sure like to see more pictures of your layout, I like the video you had post some time ago. Does my heart good to see some Monon Engines working.

Ray I like your version of Ulrich module. I personal think he has more than the need skills to do.

Ulrich It is safe to come back to the dinner, it is all quite again. Whistling  Floor is sticky here and there, and I did find a pieces of Rhubarb pie stuck in between the seat cushion at the RC counter.

Going to luck at WFP and the Show Me Something posting.

        See you all later

Evening all.

W**k was good. For the first time in weeks, we had some real rainfall. And thunder and lightning. Lots of water, lighting effects, and noise. Fine by me; I love thunderstorms.
So anyway, we had A LOT of people packed into our tiny restaraunt. The inside has a long counter, five tables, and some space between the door and the tables. Not a whole lot of room. All the tables were full, we had people waiting for pickups, people waiting for tables, and people waiting for the rain to pause so THAT they could leave. It was so packed that you couldn't even move. On top of THAT, the power went out three times, so we would have to reboot the computers. Fortunately, none of the sales information was lost, but it wasted a lot of time.
[/rant]

Photos: I don't have anything to worry about with posting photos. All photos THAT I post are taken from my Facebook, Flickr, or Railroad Picture Archives albums. The RRPA ones even have my name on the bottom, so you can be sure THAT they're mine (see the photo at the bottom of this post). All photos that aren't mine are posted as links, and I always mention THAT they are not mine after the link.

TSF: The one thing THAT I love about Walthers is their excellent customer service. I've dealt with them twice, and they've been great. One time, I got a damaged centerbeam (end ladders), so they sent me a replacement (which ended up having the same problem, but I didn't feel like asking for another), and let me keep the first broken one. The second time, I set up a new account (I had started using my own card for billing, so they gave me a new customer number, so I set up a new account in my name), and after placing an order, they called and said THAT the account would have to be closed because they can't have an account in a minor's name for legal issues. The lady THAT I spoke to was very nice and understood the situation, and said THAT she knew it probably wasn't a problem, but it was company policy. Both times, the people were very understanding and were easily able to solve the problems.
Walthers' prices aren't the best, but they're not the worst. However, they're very very easy to do business with, and I'd rather pay THAT little extra for the ease of shopping.

Barry, glad to hear that SIL's surgery went well. Continued prayers for her Angel

Ray, thanks for the iced coffee! And for causing you the pain of having to say MOCHA MINT ICED COFFEE, here's a slice of my *CANNOLI PIZZA*, on me!

And nice bridge! Where is THAT?

Well, it's getting late. OR, is it getting early...

See ya,

-Joe

GOOD MORNING!!!

Gee, I see wetidlerjr hasn't chimed in to open us up. I personally know he is a little miffed {to put it mildly} with our hosts at the moment for being told about his posting pics. That could be why he didn't chime in his usual Morning greeting.

KEN...NOT picking on you this time, BUT...I don't think it's fair for  one mattress company to give you "spiff money" to favor selling their mattress over someone else's-even if you DON'T favor them and it "just happens" that you sell theirs!! That sounds VERY shady business practice to me...THOUGH Car dealers get "kick backs" from car loans from certain banks all the time. Other businesses DO get "kick backs" but I think not fair...this is supposed to be "free" enterprise system. THEN people wonder WHY politicians DO what tehy do..they often get "secret Kick-backs" in the form of "free stuff" {they are nto supposed to get} or in CONTRIBUTIONS to their campaign funds to VOTE CERTAIN WAYS. Gov't of the people, by the people, for the people is ONLY for the RICH who can afford to pay off elected officials.

Tomorrow the diner moves...to WHERE? Who would like to see it WHERE? WIht the heat in t he USA and drought every where we should pick COOL wet area to be in so the undercarriage A/C unit doesn't have t o work so hard.

We had a good thunder boomer Storm  Umbrella Lightning rain storm yesterday.

Well, I woke up with a migraine. NOT good.

We have the computer room to clean up for a visiting friend. Underneath TRAIN STUFF {MOH's N scale stuff} Is a Folded "roll away bed" {With a BAD MATTRESS ON IT KEN} we have to put down for our guest. He will be here for a week. Ugh. Stretch the food bill as he eats like a horse If I remember. MAybe not.

Well, I am under the influence of powerful Migraine meds now...so I should go before I say something I regret OR very unintelligable to you all.....

Have a great day,

Prayers for those who need them. Angel

Far as the spiffs, all manufactures offer them sometime or another. Sealy right now is offering spiffs to all people (different company's even) that sale there mattress. I have all so make some spiff money from Kingsdown mattress ($300.00) and Spring Air as well.

As far as me Not Favoring the mattress, it is what the customer likes not what I like.

 Good Morning Fellow Dinners

 Flo, Coffee to go please.

 galaxy:

KEN...NOT picking on you this time, BUT...I don't think it's fair for  one mattress company to give you "spiff money" to favor selling their mattress over someone else's-even if you DON'T favor them and it "just happens" that you sell theirs!! That sounds VERY shady business practice to me.

So Galaxy , your where picking on me the other times? I thought you where just trying to be helpful? Laugh

                        Ken

Well, I WAS being "helpfull"! But many thought I "picked on you" too much in my scathing recent response to you!!! We even had a forum diner lurker come out just to chastize me, but never contributes anything useful or not useful any other time here..he is your "groupie"! Yeah Ken...you have a "groupie"!!!

Have agreat day and sell, sell, sell! Practice that old thingy- never let them ouy of your store without buying somehting...as they may not come back!

We could use a new mattress, but you are to far away, and currently we have a furnace repair {maybe even replacement, groan} to pay for. SO a new matttress will have to wait.

AHve a great day!

After long and careful thought, they have convinced me. I have come to the conclusion that they are right. The aliens did it.

Morning All,

Just putting together stuff for our trip. We plan on leaving around 1200 as we can't check in until 1600 and it is a 4 hour drive. On the way back MOH wants to stop at the McDill AFB commisary and buy groceries, I can't wait (note sarcasm).

I forgot to mention yesterday that I was able to successfully run a passenger train along the base of the mountain, it is snug but no rubbing.

Everyone take care.

Good Morning!! Coffee and a ham and egg breakfast pocket thing please. Thanks

I guess Ray isn’t zipping down to Mickey D’s for their iced coffees.Laugh

Mostly sunny, with a high near 90.

Brenda spent the night at the horse piddle with her Mother, and the dog is just beside her self now. Can’t figure out why she hasn’t been home and every noise is a reason to make a ballistic dash to the window to see if it’s her.

Things as of about 11 pm were looking good I suppose for the MIL. They did give her a pint of blood “to be on the safe side” whatever that meant. They say if all continues at this pace she should be out of ICU tomorrow sometime. MIL says all she wants to do is get to the point where she can eat something solid. The Nurse coming in with the IV bag telling her its steak and potatoes, just isn’t cutting it any more.

Me? Things are starting to smell funny so that usually means I’m getting a sinus infection. In JULY! Go figure.

Well, I guess I’ll mow the yard. No, I didn’t get to do it….whenever I said I was. Always something comes up. I could finish staining the back porch floor for her since I seem to have more of a chance to finish it than she does lately. Guess I’ll put that on the list. When I’ll get to it is anybodies guess.

You don’t suppose I’d get a chance to get into the train room today do you?? Hmmmm.

Ya’ll have a Great Day!!! Laugh

EDIT: TOP again. Eat up!

I forgot to mention yesterday that I was able to successfully run a passenger train along the base of the mountain, it is snug but no rubbing.

I had a close setup like that when I was modeling in N Scale back in the 80's. Two level layout with the bottom level curving around a mountainside. The F9's and other short locos could handle it pulling 50' cars but when it came to the SD45T-2 getting past, it got hung up every time.

Hey ... It doesn't feel right today. Bill T did not open the place. I hope the "powers that be" are not messing with him. Ulrich, too?

Chris .. Interesting about the school photos. Well, THAT is THAT.

Curt ... Glad to here you ran the passenger train.

Todd .. Evidendtly, your dog knows there is a problem. I bet you wish you could actually explain to the dog about what is happening.

EVERYBODY >>>>>> Where do we move the diner for August? .... I suggest, the Canadian Rockies would be a good place to escape the heat.  Perhaps, we could pass through CN Charlie's and Johnboy's towns on the way.

Have a great Saturday, everybody.
