Good Morning ! from Tipton IN.

Mornin,,, an irish coffee please Zoe.
It’s 38 outside and rain, most the snow is gone, which is nice after a month of bitter cold, ice and snow. Tomorrow is supposed to be in the 50’s, and a chance for thunderstorms.
I finally found a believable reason for the below normal cold.

Good Morning Folks,
I am having a bad time - you may call it the year end blues. Although I did not have any resolutions set for this year, I have not achieved anything in the past year. The family situation is unchanged, still not much of an perspective on the job front, and my MRR plans have come to a grinding halt. Yet I should be thankful that all of us are still around.
It has not been really a good year - not only for Petra and me, but also for some friends of mine. A few kost their jobs and are now looking into an equally bleak future as I do. I do hope though, that 2011 we be a much better year for all of us!
Barry - my go out to your friend!
Todd - my go out to your MIL as well!
Lee and Ken - how sweet of you to offer me some help, but as the situation at this end now stands, I cannot even afford to by the lumber for the benchwork. We are facing steep increases in our energy bills and gas prices next year, yet our "allowance" will be increased by only $ 5 a month. It has not been increased since 2005, which in effect means that we now have about 15 % less spendable money. There is absolutely no room for any extra. I will keep my dreams...
Ken - I do hope that your situation will improve and that you will keep your house. I know quite well what it means to live in a place just because the rent is cheap. We have tried to some success to make our place as cosy and comfortable as possible, but the surroundings are just not our "cup of tea" or should I say "glass of schnapps"? We have to cope with people here who lack any type of good behaviour. Outside of our door, the place is a mess, which keeps us from inviting guests. Our social life is more or less down to nil, nada, rien, nichts, nothing, niente. We miss our "former" friends, who proved not to be friends.
No, Zoe, no need to get out the soap box - this is neither a rant, nor a complaint - it is just stating the way it is. Yes, I´ll be having some coffee, please.
Peace on Earth and Good Will to Men!
Evening all, just stopping in for a glass of sweet tea before heading off to bed. I had a rather uneventful day, did get 90% of our new gas grill put together since that was "our" Christmas present to ourselves. Will put the last few things on it in the morning. Probably will be helping Amy clean some stuff up at the church tomorrow, then I'll have to head off and do the w*rk thing. Not really complaining, we're getting a good bunch of stuff done, which is great since we are currently 2 weeks behind on setting stuff.
Ok, ok, enough ranting for me, no ma'am, I do not need the soap box, I'm all done.
Barry, prayers for your friend on both the broken hip issue and the cancer one.
Welp, the tea was good, gotta get going, need to fold some laundry that's currently clogging up my side of the bed then I'm going to be occupying it.
Goodnight all, later taters!
Flo, how about a refill back here? Yep, decaf, thanks!
GMTRacing Ray - I love the belt drive machines. When are you showing up to paint our shop tools? Does anyone make the rest of the overhead shafting, pulleys and belts you would need ? I may have some old pics of my grandfathers w..kplace with the same machines and belting if that helps.

There is something about those old machines isn't there..... The last ones I ever saw running were in use at Benham's Elevator in Canandaigua when I was a kid. Scale Structures makes the overhead stuff as well. They say those should be the last thing installed.... I think I know why! Pics would be nice! I have been searching around the web for some photos and I have a few, but more would be a big help. Thanks!
Hope you all have a great night!

What happened? Did I miss something?
Good Evening All,
Long day in the shop but I got some more sorting and putting away done in the basement. It's amazing how much stuff you can get in a limited area and I haven't even touched the magazine collection yet (just train stuff left - the car magazines went up with the attic). I now have a list of construction supplies for the stud wall I need to make before I start wall coverings.
Time to get some shuteye - tomorrow will be another long day as my fabricator is still stuck in Florida so I'm doing double duty in the shop. CUL, J.R.
Evenin' folks!
Flo just a decaf for me right now.
Barry, sorry to hear about your friend.... I will keep him in my prayers!
der, It is amazing what you pick up from the photo THAT you miss with just the eyes looking at the object. Especially if the photo is bigger than 1/1 size.
der5997 I bet Old Man Dalrymple has his house rigged with those small ACDC insulators to keep that shiny copper wire stuff off his walls!
I bet Old Man Dalrymple has his house rigged with those small ACDC insulators to keep that shiny copper wire stuff off his walls!
I remember those from when I was growing up on the farm. Had them up in the attic of the old house. I can also remember when the house was rewired during some remodeling and we put in the Romex insulated stuff....... They never took out the insulators, just cut the wire and left them. Womder if they are still up there?
Todd, sounds like your day turned out just like planned.......
I got some painting done.....
Also finished up some of the Scale Structures Belt Drive workshop tools I have assembled last Summer. They are pretty close to being put in place in the shop.
Hey fellas

Hm. looks like I'll be heading out for the Christmas party at the restaurant here shortly after all. For a bit there I thought I'd be staying home if I was lucky or back in the horsepiddle with Mom. She had a spell but seems fine now. I already know what I'm getting from my secret Santa. (that'd be me. I drew my own name hehehe ) I wrapped the T & P caboose from Athearn I got off the bay a few weeks ago. Boy am I excited. I told you I think Toddland (of which I'm king) may bring back caboosies. If not, there are these things used all over as static displays, playhouses, you name it. Shoot it wasn't too long ago someone posted a picture of one being used as a cabin I think.
Speaking of caboosies, I just noticed that 83 posts ago, I hit the 2000 post mark. Gee, and I have had so little to say about MRR too. I should spend less time talking and more time doing. Oh well, you guys are just such a great friendly bunch, I forget this is a MRR forum.
Think I'll celebrate with a cup of Chicory coffee. That'll keep me awake through the trivia contest. I usually throw that thing. Too easy for a guy like me who knows absolutely everything. I feel bad for them.

Good Evening
Things are very quiet tonight at the house. Friend of mine who I spent some time with in a band had broke his hip in a fall and is now diagnosed with bone cancer... I've set up prayer candles for him...

57° here at the moment and wet. We've had a long slow rain all day so far. Looks to continue into the night. Low tonight will be around 50°. Had a bad night last night. Had some bug trying to get hold of me but after a 102° fever it conceded defeat.I finanlly got to sleep around 3 am. Woke up at 8 and it's been one thing after another. Breakfast at 9 then out to check the mail then over to check on my parents. Checked out a tiny JVC camcorder they have but have never used. They want to learn how to use it but it's going to have to wait until I have the time and energy to do it. My mother can learn it quickly enough but explaining anything computer related to my father is like doing brain surgery over the phone. It also has to charge for 3 hours as today was it's very first day out of the box. Now you would think that they would supply a wall wart to charge the dang thing. Nope! It has to be plugged into a USB port to charge on the meager power supplied there. Even so, with my parents combined knowledge of computers (all thumbs) I don't think it will be used in any case. Anyhow, after doing that we went to KFC for lunch then to the gas station to fuel up the car then back home. So far an uneventful day and with the exception of a free lunch a waste of my time, time I could have used for something more constructive.
Ken- I wouldn't say I play the guitar, but I guess some would say I do. I was joking about about being better than Ray. Even for three minutes. But yes I do read tab. I'm not sure just what you mean by sequence. The problem with most sites is the tabs numbers are used without the corresponding notes on a staff below to give the player the timing for each note. You have to know the song and just know where you are by recocgnizing what you are playing to know how long to hold the note and where the rests are. I find just reading music easier in that respect, but tab is almost a necessity to get the correct tone/sound for each particular note in a particular song since a middle C is in about fifty three different tonal positions on the fret board.
Ok so fifty three miiiight be an exagerration. 42.
Afternoon Folks
There are 2 good things about winter!
1 Don't have to cut the grass.
2 Never have to drink warm
Flo, speaking of , I will take one and a Big Boy Sub.
Guitar Front Todd so you play as well? Do you know how to read Tab? I have always played rhythm and want to try some lead now. I found a pretty good site but for the life of me I can not figure out the sequences to play the notes in?
Far as the Pepsi bottles, I don't get it either why they keep changing them? I don't think new customers will buy them just because there is a different lapel?
Caffeine free Dew is gone, I had my caffeine fix today and my mood is better.
Train Front Well it blew chunks today, only thing that did not go wrong is I did not smoke any decoders! But I have not turned off the power yet either!
Hope to have Simon and his son's over this weekend and decided to run some of the alternate routs to get the rail clean. My Santa Fe freight F-3 train would not take one turnout no matter what I did! About half the cars would clear the turnout but 4 cars kept picking and derailing. Funny thing is a 35 car train pulled by Monon had no problems?
Then I tried to park my UP Dash 9 Pearl Beer train on a passing spur. Half of the Monon train made it by, then a car caught the Dash 9, ripped off half of the front gap irons and then derailed the train.
Next I decide to run my SP SW 900 pulling a few coal cars on the main line. While I was moving the SW 900 and it cars I must have left one a little to close to the mine loop. NYC F-3 clipped a coal car and on to the floor it went! Not the F-3 but the coal car. Lost the coupler cover but found the wheel set and Kadee coupler and spring.
Ulrich I sure know how you feel about giving up. At this point I don't even know how much longer I may have the house. So the day dream of building the layout is pretty much over till I see what happens.
If you would lower your standards to HO and would use DC I have a few things I would throw in. I have a Stewart Rio Grand F-3 you could have. (Right Road Name wrong gauge) Motor is not quite right and will ate a decoder. But with some oiling I think you get some DC time out of it.
I would all so part with a PK 2000 Monon BL 2. Again the motor's draw a little to much power and will eat a decoder. I would all so throw in a few rolling stock as well.
I would all so be happy to send you the track program for the hopefully coming new layout. You can use the free 3D Plan It program t run it, add tress and buildings but would not be able to save the additions. Still fun to run and just play with.
A person needs something to look forward to and play with. Guess that is one of the main reason I am getting interested in Guitar again.
See You folks later.

In an attempt to escape an endless "All our of our agents continue to be with other customers; please hold to keep your call priority. Your call is import to us, and an agent will be with you shortly. Thank you"; approaches back door and sees signs of a "Disturbance in the Force' as if two gents had been flung out in to the snow bank! Wonders why I would want to" keep my call priority", since it's obviously low...see's, through window in the door, Vinnie approaching ....Makes note to behave...(turns out that the site I was trying to access, and that was kicking me to a "Fill out these 5 security questions" field, had instituted this extra layer of security - but failed to tell "valued clients" that this was what was going on, and that the log-in would proceed normally once the questions were answered and filed....Ok, enough of THAT; here's my first attempt at adding a snow plow to an N Scale loco. I thought it would be interesting to do the air line hoses so the ports in the plow have some purpose.
A further thought was that if I was going to do more of those,( and I have 7 or so snowplows in hand) a brass template for drilling the three holes for the air hoses on each side of the anti-climber would be a useful item. Making that is proving to be a PITA. It doesn't seem to matter how accurately I mark the spots for the holes, when the drill bit in the pin-vise hits the brass sheet for the second or third hole, it goes way off. So pre-mark with a punch to stop any skidding - a track nail ought to fit the bill. Same difficulty however, the second or third punches don't line up with the others I think I may now have that wrestled to the workbench - I've three punched places in about the right order on the sheet, and am on my second hole as I type. It's a #76 drill (0.020) and the line of three holes is no more than 1/8th inch long. ....Well, it's done - no prettier than it has to be, and the middle hole wandered even with taking all the care I could find! I can't see buying a Micro-Mark mini drill press to actually do this properly when I have a need for it perhaps once or twice a year - However,as it is it's SO much prettier than any attempt I could make at welding! LOL I've thrown a masking tape handle on it, and labeled that so I can find it once it's thrown in the small implements drawer!

Ray - sorry to hear about Lucy. Rattyour toy terrier is a product of a puppy mill in Amish country so we've been worried about all that also. On top of that she's so thin she doesn't do well in the cold weather here. My daughter used to dress her up in sweaters but she hates them and spends all her time wiggling out of them so we just keep an eye out for her. With the Hawks over the field behind the shop Rattys' weight and size were a real concern though she's big enough now (just over 8 lbs) that she probably won't be swooped off with.
Thanks for the coffee ladies and I'll CUL, J.R.
Thanks Todd! I agree very much with you! They are just starting to enact some laws in the county next door to deal with Puppy Mills......
My kitties are both in the chair near my computer at the moment wrestling and grooming each other. Fun!
Ray- I'm sorry to hear about Lucy. Stories like that really tear at my heart. At least she had a wonderful loving last half of her short life. My heart and prayers go out for Lucy's two legged family.
Personally, I feel people like Lucy's first "owners", well, hanging is really to good. But a few nice superficial yet bleeding wounds and a trip a ways south of Jeff, then tied to a stump would be close. Let the bugs and alligators do the rest. Just a thought off the top of my head.
Mornin' everyone!
Zoe, I'll have the Eggs Benedict this morning with a cup of...... Huh? no I didn't see any TV last night...? Who got thrown out by Vinny? No worry here. I don't ever watch TV..... uh... You know, I can't hear it well.
Whew! That was close. Vinnie was almost over to me when Zoe waved him off..........
TMarsh Ray- You've done a great job on that motor but I must say it's a waste of time and money. I'm sure that the quarry owners are trying to shave some expenses with an eye towards the future, but alas I'm afraid they are throwing good money in the wrong direction. Electricity will never replace steam. It's a pipe dream. I hope the S.L.O. &W. Doesn't sink all their assets in diesel either. Don't listen to the rhetoric.

Todd, it seems that Old Man Dalrymple, the owner, is a city guy and really likes the new electric lights. Somebody told him that before long they will be putting electricity out into the rural areas so everyone will have it. He says someday they will have something called a Grid, I think, so power will be really dependable without a lot of outages........ Nobody can seem to talk any sense into him at all. As for the SLOW, diseasal will never effectively replace good old dependable steam power on this line! No sir!
Just got a call from my son. They need to change the day they are coming over for a Turkey Dinner (may be Sunday). That's OK as it gives me another day to get prepared. He also gave me some bad news about his MIL's little dog, Lucy. She has had Kidney failure for some time now and recently has gone into liver failure as well. MIL and Art's wife are on their way to the vet as I type to have the sweet little girl put to sleep. She is only about 6 years old. Spent the first half of her life in a Puppy Mill. She is the product of severe inbreeding and was breed much to young produced several litters before the place was shut down. MIL ended up adopting her and she has been a very loved little dog for the last 3 years in her house. Sweet little thing..... She will be missed.
Better get a move on, have lots to do.
Later!

I’m sure, however, I would have felt the same way you do. I’ve seen how some “new” artist pay tribute to an icon. I think I’ll just sit here and drink.

G- Not bad spelling for a man who’s asleep. Not bad at all. I understood it.
Plans changed. Was going to work in the train room, but the plan has been interrupted by a hair appointment for Mom Brenda made. I should still have time in the room, just not as much. That hour will seem like eternity. Tonight is the Christmas party at the restaurant, but it's at 9pm. After the place closes. Mom said she will have no problem going to bed by the time I will leave at about 8:30. In fact, she insists.
Robby too?
Hmmm. Maybe I need to check out Jeff’s caboose again.
Y’all have a Great Day now ya hear?!!!
Good morning.
Finally made it to the LHS and spent some of my Christmas money. Got some road bed HO and N scale, so rail joiners, and wire. That should give me something to do now. Other than that, just get some stuff done around the house.
Here's a shot I got yesterday from the back door of Jessica's classroom. One it shows how close she (classroom) is to the track, and two this was a TEST run. At the RR crossing NS was replacing a track, and I guess these two engines were the test to make sure it was right. After those went by, about five minutes later a CONRAIL train came by with empty hoppers.
Ray..........That's a neat looking motor .
Jeff......I agree, nice looking caboose.

I, too, noticed that business last night...and it is kind of annoying...but...hey, y'know, I expect weirdness from Hollyweird....hey, leggo my arm Vinnie!! No! Not the back door!!! AAAAACCCCCGGHHHH!!!!!
Good Morning All,
30F this morning and best of all no wind. Maybe now the roads can get cleared for real. Still dark at 7am so no telling if were getting partly cloudy or full overcast - depressing time of year.
Got a bit more done in the basement last night after w..k but I knocked off early to watch the UConn womens' game and the Kennedy Center induction ceremony - Merle Haggard was being honoroed you see... But all is not well. I think the artists doing Merles' music were mostly good, but they had a couple of people up there had no business being on stage - disrespectful I think it was. Merle Haggard can be mentioned in the same sentence with Irving Berlin or Willie Nelson and is as well known for his performances as his writing so you'd think they's have people on could give a decent rendering of his music but no, we get kid rock and some other doofus who couldn't carry a tune in a 5 gallon bucket. Yech!. Showx what happens when you get some Hollywood type casting things. They could have marched out and gotten the first dozen musicians out of the local clubs and gotten better results. Of course given the audience the producers could have had a bit of fun with it all by doing Fightin Side of Me or at least Rainbow Stew. Ok Vinnie - back off and take your lousy soapbox back. Sheesh I didn't know your brother was a famous producer dude. For heavens sake let go my arm. Hey! I was headed for the counter - not the back door! Hey!
Good Morning Folks!
Cup of coffee please.
Have a great day all!
Steven
