Ulrich, the Blizzard of 78-79 I remember it well (I was 12). I had to help a friend with his paper route; we would take turns climbing over the piles of snow that were in excess of 10 feet high to deliver the newspaper to the porch. The wind and snow was so bad 7 people in my town were found dead less than 10 feet from their front door. They went out for the mail or something and became disoriented in the snow/wind storm and froze to death. We lost power and were using kerosene heaters throughout the house to stay warm. The Army National Guard was using heavy equipment to plow the roads and the big rotary plows from the airport and the Air National Guard were trying to clear the major highways. Don’t worry, Patton never showed up in his tank either…

Good Morning All!Not much to report from the land of Buckeyes other then its cold and I done flung another log on the fire.Modeling wise yesterday I went through my scrap box and toss a lot of junk away that would never been used. Then toss 3 old projects away since they was no longer on my to do list since the project was cancelled months ago..On the bright side I found 4 pairs of #5s and 2 pair of trucks on junk cars.I toss the bodies after savaging the frame, weight and floor.I shall have a cup and look over the forum.Have a good'un!

Still fighting this head cold. So maybe some work in the basement will help.
Lee......I had the old one painted black, and I will probably do the same. Plus it makes it look a bit better painted, we to me it does.
"Rust, whats not to love?"
Robby, I started painting my black with yellow cup holders and throttle holders.
Afternoon all. Chloe, I'll take a bacon cheeseburger, please.
Speaking of food, does anybody think it's time to get the egg nog tanker hooked up yet?
I'm going on a trip tomorrow so I don't REALLY have to do my homework (don't have much anyway, but I'll probably do at least some of it), so I found time to make it in before I have to finish up my paper and go to practice.
I'm going to NJIT (New Jersey Institue of Technology) tomorrow for an engineering trip. The paper they gave us was ridiculously vague, so I know nothing about it.
Ray, August and September were such a blur to me that we could have been on Mars and I wouldn't have noticed! August was when I started waitering at the restaraunt, basically doubling my hours. And I kept doing THAT through weekends in September, and then after THAT I started on my Eagle project! I was barely in this place at all, and when I was, I didn't even care where it was, as long as I could find the place!
Ulrich- Pfft, you have no right to complain! You brought us here, so you have no one to blame!
Galaxy, well, I guess you're right. You can't make everyone happy all the time...
Ken- The plan looks good, but probably way too "loopy" to be realistic. If you're not overly concerned, then go ahead with it!
Wow, all this talk of snow! It's cold here, but not enough for snow- yet. Although we did have some on Thanksgiving...
Well, I better get going on homework. Catch ya all later!

WELL, WELL,

Norfolk Southern is up to sumptin' 'round these here parts....They apparently are turning a two track main into a one track main? They just last year replaced ties and laid down welded rail. and put in new block signals along the way. Now it seems they are ripping up all that on the right side, installing switches just outside the Binghamton yard to converge to one track on the left and from Binghamton westward to Elmira-ish are taking up the right side trackage. I noticed that by my father's house that they had cut the rails at the crossing, taken out the tracks AT the crossing, repaved the crossing leaving only the left side, and moved the crossbuck into the smack-dab middle of the right side tracks.
Yep, I says, they's up to sumptin' 'round here. Wunder whot? Seems after they laid the new track there was an increase in rail traffic along there. but apparently not enough to justify a two-track main? And CP has trackage rights on the rails through here and BNSF can frequently be seen, whether on trackage rights or leased engines, I don't know. The defunct North-South yard in Binghamton is also apparently being taken up, but that I think belongs to CP, though CP prefers and uses only the Conklin yard.
Dunno. But we've seen lots of trackwork equipment this and last years along those lines. No, I don't have any pics. Seems they were moving along quite well, and we didn't have a camera anyway.
GOt teh medicaid thing straightened out. My case does end in March, NOT Nov. SO I just had to pay my Dec spend down payment fo $172.00. Won't be activated til Monday, though, so I have to wait til then to get my script filled.

My Bachmann GP38-2 was dropped at my door at 12:23 today. So I see nothing wrong with it. Nothing broken or loose. Already test ran it. It's quiet and smooth, no noise, no vibration. I took the dynamic brake hatch off and it looks like it has the regular Bachmann card decoder in it. If that's the case I have a Digitrax DZ125 that will take it's place with no problem.

Train Front I need to quite playing with the track plan and start working on the RIP engines! I am running out of engines! I have the following to repair again in most cases.
1 2 Athearn RTR SD 50's
2 Blue Line RSD 15. Headlight stopped working, I bent the LED leads and think I need to re solder the PC board.
3 Blue Line GE AC 6000 sounds God awful again. Found one road spike sucked up in the speakers and there may be more. Why BLI made it such a pain to get to the speakers is beyond me?
4 PCM Big Boy. It now shorts out some times when turning left. Same problem the PCM Y6 b had. Hope it is the same problem, if it is I can fix it. Just like the Y 6 when it started getting the same problem, it will make it around 4, 8 sometimes 15 times before it shorts. To me the real odd part is just like the Y 6, it only does it on left turns and I only have 3 of them, but 7 right hand turns?
I love snow, bring it on! Guess it was around 1981I was living in Indianapolis and we got nailed with around 1.5 feet in 24 hours. My room mate and I lived in a housing addition that was in a depressed area, 12 foot climb to the main road. Snow plows would not come in and the neighbors could not get out. Brian and I broke out the Dirt Bikes and we had a BLAST. Just put our feet on the road and gave it heck. Between him and I we made 30 or so runs to the grocery store for neighbors. One police officer saw me (no plates on dirt bikes) leaving the grocery store and gave chase's. I went down the hill into the neighbor hood, and so did the cruiser. It was stuck in the ditch for 2 weeks before they got it out.
See you all later!

Found the USB cable for my old Olympus D550 Zoom which is the camera I use for most of my layout shots. I don't need the cable at this time since I use a card reader that reads a multitude of card types, including those prehistoric SM cards which is what the Olympus uses. But what if the reader goes belly up? Where would I find a reader that reads SM cards? That's when I'll need the cable. When I plug the cable into the camera Windows sees it as a disk drive and I can download the photos just as quickly as I would from the reader.
Homework is about to force me to go MIA again, so I'll go ahead and get my last 2 cents in before I dissappear for an unknown amount of time.

It kinda-sorta snowed here in my neck of Florida. it got below freezing last night, and when we woke up this morning, all of the vehicles were iced over (that's a good, unorthodox use for a Driver's lisence: improvised ice scraper) and it was as cold as a freezer all day.
I want to make it public: I DON'T beleave in global warming no more.
Well, normally, I'm not one to spread those chain-mail E-mails, but I got to share this one (Let's see if the photos come up...):
Well, I guess I'll see everyone in a few days, or weeks... EDIT: THe photos didn't come up. I'll re-post them with photobucket when I get some free time later...

Evenin' Folks!
Flo just a decaf for me. I'll go sit in the back by the stove for a few minutes.
Weeeeeeeellllll... (very, very, deep subject). As of this evening the quarry is now covering what has been a big gaping hole on the Seneca Lake, Ontario, & Western RR down cellar at my house. Had to do a bit of trimming of some braces I added while it was off (remember always measure twice and cut once.... I did that and then had to cut again!). Screws are once again holding it in place and hopefully it will be the last time I have to do this. After I die or leave my home, my son gets to remove the remains of the layout..... Oh. I also started to remove the floor mats so they could dry out after the flood down there.
I added some ties where they were missing and have actually started to put the last of the rail down in place (This area is all hand laid track). Hopefully I will get a few photos tomorrow for the WPF and here in the diner.
Tomorrow looks to be another busy day of non RR related stuff... Have to help the Pack I am commissioner for get done with rechartering, do a bank deposit for the MLK Committee, and pack for the RIT Train Show.... OK, so the last is train related, it has very little to do with my layout. I will be starting to build a building for the area near the quarry, so I guess THAT is layout related after all.
If any of you folks happen to be at the RIT Show this weekend, stop over at the NMRA Booth and say Howdy! I will be the grinning old guy with the beard!
Hope you all have a great night!

Good Morning,
THIS HAZARDOUS WEATHER OUTLOOK IS FOR NORTH CENTRAL OHIO AND
NORTHEAST OHIO.TODAY AND TONIGHT. LAKE EFFECT SNOW SHOWERS WILL OCCUR TODAY INTO TONIGHT. ONE TO THREE INCHES OF SNOW IS POSSIBLE IN THE SNOWBELT EAST OF CLEVELAND WITH AN INCH OR LESS ELSEWHERE. DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN. LAKE EFFECT SNOW IS POSSIBLE ALMOST EVERY DAY THROUGH THE MIDDLE OF NEXT WEEK. SNOWFALL AMOUNTS COULD BE SIGNIFICANT AT TIMES IN THE SNOWBELT. Today: Snow showers. High near 27 Northwest winds between 6 and 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. Total daytime snow accumulation of 2 to 4 inches possible. Tonight: Scattered snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 24 Northwest wind around 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible.
6” of snow over the weekend is nothing to be concerned about. This morning we had a trace amount on the ground but not enough to break out the snow brush to clear the truck. Those guys in Buffalo, NY however are going to get slammed with this storm as it will travel the entire 300 miles across the Lake picking up moisture then dropping it on Buffalo.
Lunchtime in snowy northern Germany!
It seems, as if this winter is going to be worse than the last one. Never had that much of that white stuff so early into the season!
Chloe, I am having a bowl of Polish Chili Verde Soup, hot & spicy, and a mug o´ coffee, please.
After working down the HD list (grocery run, laundry) I started to work on my Swiss friend´s track plan, using the same concept as for Ken´s plan. Now his room is much smaller, so the layout can´t be as sleek as I would like it to be. He is also using Marklin (yuck!) K-track, which means sharp curves and toy-like switches, but I think I achieved the max under those circumstances
Here is the old plan:
... and now the new plan:
I am getting a little better at the graphic rendering.
Pascal is working on the "northern" part and has not yet started on the lower part, so the change in plans can be made without putting the work he has done so far at stake. The layout is now featuring an additional hidden staging yard. Main points of interest are landmark items, such as the station with its typical Swiss Chalet type depot, the "Felsenburg" castle atop of the Felsenberg III tunnel, and the famous Kander- and Bietschtal viaducts. I have asked Pascal to send me some pictures of his work to be shared with you.
Petra is having her lady friends of for a typical German Advent time "Coffee and Cake" party this afternoon. She made this lovely poppy seed & vanilla cream pie for the girls:
I hope I can snatch a slice and hide away in my den
A good one to all of you!
Good snowy morning.
Calling for snow showers for the next few days but not on Saturday. Go figure I guess.
Not much planned for me today. Work on the BN hopper some, and work on the layout a bit.
I will pop back in later.

Mornin' everyone!
Zoe, I'll have a breakfast bagel w/ cheese and a cup of dark roast coffee (yes the real thing!) to start the day.
The sun is busy shining here in the Finger Lakes this morning. Currently 31°F with a possibility of some of them Lake Effect Snows (the same stuff Galaxy was talking about) producing a few little snow showers later.
I have to arrange my schedule today to include several MLK, Boy Scout, and other items as well. Have to also get everything packed in the Yaris to take to RIT tomorrow morning.....

My late wife used to get into some new outfit and would then ask me if it made her look fat!!!!! Most of you, I am sure, know THAT there is no good answer for questions like THAT! My wife was 5'3" and weighed in at 110lbs. After getting beat about the head and shoulders many times due to THAT question, I finally learned to say, "Yep! All in the right places too!" Then grin real quick!
Best get moving.... Way too much to get done today!
Later!
(Puff, puff, wheeze - Boy, a guy's arms get tired, after trying to pump one of those old handcars over those dang mountains...)
Oh, Hi, Zoe - yes, it has been a bit of a while. I got the new(er) donated iMac from my brother just before Thanksgiving, and have been tied up (no, not literally) with trying to get it all set up. The thing is HUGE, which makes taking it to my local WiFi a bit of effort to manage. I decided to buy an update DVDROM for the operating system update (would have likely taken a day or so). Other programs that I can download using my older laptop and transfer over, I do that way. Of course, last night, I noticed the screen on the laptop developing vertical lines on it. Tried shutting down, re-seating the keyboard cable to the motherboard, also ran antivirus program (just in case), and one of those appear to have made the gremlins disappear for now.
Not a lot going on in the MRR department recently (due to the 'puter stuff). Have been doing a little thinking about what I need to do next, but no action. Had got in a 54' GSC flatcar (assembled kit) in N&W, and am eyeing another one on the 'Bay. (Nope, not Frisco Bay...).
Think I'll have a cinnamon raisin bagel and a Santa Fe mug of (plain old, black, no-sugar-or-other-additons, thanks) coffee and sit at the RC a bit.
Blessings and prayers,
Jim in Cape Girardeau
Morning All...sunny and cold here with alittle snow ..Just coffee for me please..Thank You...sorry I havn't been in for awhile..Lots of personal stuff going on..Please keep us in Your thoughts and prayers..Jerry
Jim, my old laptop is doing the same thing, but it's the screen slowly dying........
Good afternoon. I'll have a big cup of that chicory coffee. Went to town this morning to run a couple of errands and get the second half of the grocery shopping done. Why my paltry $56 in food stamps can't come through on the first like my SS I don't know. Made a bank deposit, went to the auto parts store to get some of those plastic tubes to join auto vacuum hoses together then hit Wal-Mart for the groceries and some of my medical needs. Also got new AAA batteries for the remotes when they need them and new AA batteries for my old Letra-Tag label maker. It doesn't like rechargeable batteries at all! Test ran the new Bachmann GP38-2 yesterday. It runs all right but I want better motor control. I'll be leaving the Bachmann decoder in it to turn the LED's on and off but the motor will be controlled by a Digitrax DZ125 decoder that has a problem with the light function. Found that out when I tested it yesterday but it's the only spare one I have. Like the old saying goes, make do with what you have. The Bachmann decoders in my GP30's and GP7's have pretty good motor control but the one in the GP38-2 makes it run S-L-O-W! I did a reset on it but it didn't change anything so I disconnected the motor wires from the decoder and put straight DC to the motor to see if it was the problem. It isn't. When I advanced the DC throttle the motor ran just as fast as any other Bachmann motor I have. So when I finish the install the Bachmann decoder will control the lights and the DZ125 will control the motor. I've done thsi before and it works pretty good as long as both decoders have the same address.
This forum and the Layouts forum are running OK but the Electronics and DCC forum is down for some reason. I get a 'Sorry, there was a problem with your last request!' message.
Edit: OK, it's back up now.
Good Afternoon,
As it is lunchtime, I think I'll have a BLT please Chloe and a big mug of Ray's dark roast coffee.
Jerry, Hope all is well with you and we are thinking of you.
I"m home today as I took a day of holidays. There is a fellow here installing some blinds we ordered. Not a great way to use up holiday time but if I don't use the days before the end of the year then I lose them. At least I'll have 10 days off over Christmas which is nice.
Have been trying to do some RR stuff. Not much really, just putting a micro trains coupler on a BMan vandy tender( N scale). I thought it would be a 15 minute job but 2 hours later it was finally done. The frame of the tender was metal so I had to file down 2 ridges so the coupler box would lie flat and then had to drill and tap a hole for the screw. That takes a bit of time boring a hole in metal with a pin vise.
We sure have a lot of snow so far this year. In fact we have 2/3 of the total we got for all of last winter. There is a real flood concern for spring as the ground is saturated.
Well errands this afternoon and then we are taking the MIL out for dinner to a place that specializes in roast beef. Looking forward to that!
