Robby, that looks like a pretty big layout man, should be fun man!

Never did wind up getting in here yesterday, had rugby practice and the like. I got my new boots (cleats): Kooga FTXs. they are SICK :D 8 metal studs, but I can run them as six stud if I want. I think I'm going to ask for some firm ground studs for Christmas.

Today was an early release day from school thank the lord :D the plan for the rest of today is to chill, then do some homework I have, then plan some more on the layout. probably gonna get my CM U-boat #8905 revved up and running too :D

Well don't that figure, I got TOP. eat up guys

OW!

The following messega goes out to the 75% of America who ordered 42" TVs from Amazon.com in the last few days:

I. HATE. YOU.

Still, it's money. If any of you get a package from Amazon from Ameritek Parkway, IN, that came from me. Please order soemthing light.

ULRICH: whats's rong with on the walls? I did that intentionally. If we wanted walk-around the outside, sommething else entirely can be tried. Hmm. Now there's a thought...
It's funy uoi picked the picture of 4019 to move us with. She's coupled to tre front of theOscar/Pikers I posted the photo of in AZ. She got cleaned up and earned a pair of elephant ears since that photo was taken. Buncha ROcket Scientists consulted NASA about using shuttle parts to rebuild her with, so's to cut wegith down to something closer to the Challenger. [/mystorytelling]

Ah, yep. I found one. Here's the gal parked in front of Possman Station. It;s single track behind the photographer, and another train was working its way up the Indianapolis Belt.

Ken: I found an e-mail jammed in my Outbox. Yahoo didn't like the file size. Take 2 then.

Afternoon folks!  (Comes in Whistling "It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas......")  Well (deep subject), it does around these parts where I sit and type!

Flo just a cup of hot cocoa to tide me over to supper....  You can serve Hot Cocoa I hope here in Califloweria?

So ("A needle pulling thread"), we got about 2 inches of "partly cloudy" here today.  just enough to make the roads greasy, cause several fender benders, and make a couple of electric lines decide to come apart.  At least THAT is what a former Fire Chief friend of mine told me when I went down to church to pick up the notebook for Head Usher....  Went down cellar to get to w**k on the quarry and to check and see how much "Liquid Sunshine" had oozed into the cellar overnight.  Workshop room had just a little water in the usual place, no problem.  The main train room which seldom gets flooded anymore was busy leaking onto the rubber pads on the floor and cabinet bottom and uprights for the layout.  Towels have been applied to soak up the excess, and the pads will be pulled up tonight to let them dry off.....  The wind direction was from the South for this storm and the rain pounded THAT side of the house causing the problem....  Someday when I am wealthy I will get the wall sealed on the outside and cure the leak once and for all.  Yep, maybe in my next life?

Morgan....  What's a TV?  Oh, I remember now.  I've got of them infernal contraptions out in the living room.  I haven't watched it in 10 or so years now......  Never been fond of commercials. Whistling

I guess while we are here in the State of Confusion, I should head up to the mountains and see my SIL who lives not too far away from Sacredmento (or whatever this place is called).  She now lives in some place called Quincy....  Anyone know what time of day it might be safest to be on the road around here? WhistlingLaugh

Hope all of you are enjoying the warmth of the fire and good friends!

Later!

Nothing for me tonight, Flo. I'm as nervous as all get-out over that driving test right now (I'll know if I passed tomorrow...)

Hey, we moved.

North Eastern- I'm hopefully getting a CB from a friend of mine, it's just the CB. No mike and no whips. I'll let you know how that goes. Those things aren't cheap.

Good luck with that Team Steam fan.

I know CBs ain't cheep, but if you can, try going to yardsales and flea markets for the radio aentennas and mikes.  I got my radio (aentenna, mike, and the whole 9 yards) from a yardsale in my neghborhood for all of $20.00 I havn't been able to test it out yet, but the man said he had it in his work truck before he got laid off, and that it still worked.

You never know what you'r going to find at yardsales and/or flea-markets.

I'm also glad that your friend is O.K. after the roll-over

Good evening. I'll have a BIG mug of that chicory coffee. I need it!

I've just spent the afternoon going through a big Rubbermaid TuffTote container under the layout. I couldn't open it all the way because the hit the bottom of the layout. So I had to hold it open with one hand while fishing around inside with the other hand. It would have helped tremendously if I had feeling in my hands. Anyways, I found a crap load of Bachmann EZ-Track, mostly nickel silver but some steel. The steel track will be put out for collection Monday night. It'll be collected Tuesday morning. I found an Atlas 9" plate girder bridge with nickel silver rails, part of a bridge deck (maker unknown) with nickel silver rails, a Broadway Limited DC sound box that makes the bell and horn on some BLI DCC sound locos work on DC, an N Scale 5th precinct police station. I hit the mother load on vehicles, poles, signs, unpainted figures, hand painted figures. I even found an old Partridge Family bus! I also found a Life-Like coal tipple that needs some work. Nothing broken on it, just some thick paint and some expanding foam stuck to it. In four cardboard boxes I found scads of rolling stock, easily 80 cars. There's still 2 or 3 more boxes to go through but not today.

Nothing wrong with "on the Walls", but the track within 2 inches from the wall does not allow for scenery or at least a nice blending in of the backdrop. Unfortunately, this is still a common mistake.

My track is slightly within 2" of the walls. Based on my own experience I recommend at least 3".

THe picture came out small, but it definately looks like damage has been done. Gonna need a new windshield, definately.

It also lookes like there's a highway behind him, so how is it that he did that, and the police were not called?

Definately, luck was on his side.

Evening all.

Ulrich, thanks for moving the diner! But did you have to pick a place THAT was 3,000 miles away from me?

Maybe, sometime we could have the Diner over on the East Coast. I could have TSR give us a siding to use for a month. But that would have to wait until the warmer months, at least May or June (maybe we could spend the summer at the Jersey Shore!)

Well, we were SUPPOSED to have our first game tonight, but we didn't. The other team is having "behavioral issues" and cancelled the game. We do not know yet if it will be postponed, they will forfeit (which means we will be 1-0 by default), or if they will play at all this season (which would mean the entire game would be null and void).

Well, I gotta go. Tomorrow, I have late practice, and I have to finish my English paper, so I better get some sleep.

Bye!

Evenin' folks!

Flo, just a decaf for me.  I'll go sit by the stove in the back for as long as I can stand the fumes.....

Precipitation has stopped for the moment.  I think we got considerably more than the Weather Channel is saying we did.  Still getting a lot of seepage in the basement.  Sump is running about every minute and a half.  THAT usually means the ground is very saturated....  I will have to spend some time tomorrow taking up the mats and letting them and the floor dry.  Left a little heat on and the fans in the train room going to start the drying process going.

Joe....  You must not be paying attention here!  We had the diner way up in Ontario Canada for August to keep cool, and then came down for the Fall Foliage to Rush, NY and the R&GV for September....  Hmmmmmm.  OK, maybe we can do Jersey next summer...  We've done Foreign Countries before...  (Sorry, old Howard family joke...  Remind me and I will tell it if we do move the dinner to Joizzey...)  Sorry your game got cancelled tonight, but I applaud the coaches/school for drawing the line on behavior.  Even Athletes need to learn there are consequences for certain actions!

Good news is THAT the quarry insert is pretty much ready to reinstall on the layout.  Did a lot of ballasting of the tracks THAT will be hard to reach after it is installed.  Tomorrow morning I'll call my son and see if he can come over on his way to w**k to help me put it in place.

Speaking of son....  The county where he works (just South Of where I live) has a "no unnecessary travel" alert right at the moment.  He might be stuck for the night over there......  If he does drive home I sure hope he is careful.  They have had several fender benders and one fatality due to ice on the roads.

Hope you all have a great night!

3,000 miles? Ha! In my case, it is more like 7,000 miles Smile, Wink & Grin

Good Morning Gang,

we got a little more of that wet & white stuff during the night - brrr. Temps are in the low 20 F range and public life seems to come to a stop with a grinding noise, as car repair shops have to work night shifts Laugh

Janie, a mug of real coffee for me, please, and a breakfast bagel, if you will be so kind (have to be really polite now, as we are in Caleefornio).

I´ll stay at the RC and see, who will come by today!

Nice hopper. And for perspective, Amazon limits us freom lifting over 50lbs on our own. Really, that's not that bad, a bag of salt for the water system. And, some of the guys out there have arms like Russians have cannons. (And they earned them too, I bet) I ain't one of them. The bag of salt also isn't 4"ft  across, and you don't tend to need several hundred of them in one go. Most of the flatscreens in the 42-45" range start falling into the "team lift" categories above the 50lbs.

Ah well. Hard work's good for ya, right? And that which does not kill you is jsut playing with its food. Or something like that.

WEll, well, well,

I have been up since 2:30 AM EST. Got up to go and made a bagel sandwich for midnght snack as my stomach was seriously urging me to and wasn't gonna let me sleep after that if I didn't quelch the fires of desire for sustenance. I just couldn't get back to sleep after that. Then the darn cat {cuddles.large orange furry longhaired siamese/himy mix} kept going Meroow! merrow! Meroooooowl! and kept me awake more. SO I watched Tv for a bit and now here I sit in front of the 'puter.

I forgot to pay my Medicaid Spendown for Dec. My fault. TSK TSK on me. So when I got to the Dr.s office yesterday trhey told me it wasn't active and that my term for medicaid ended Nov. that should be INCORRECT. My recertification is in Mar-APr, NOT Nov!! FOr those who complain about taxes and have govenors ro county people compaining aobut teh high costs fo Medicaid for your state....IT AIN'T FREE TO EVERYONE like they lead you to believe- I PAY $172.00 a month to have the medicaid coverage second to my Medicare coverage. ANd I pay for the Medicare COverage too....I spend about $300 a month to have all my health care coverage. Then cuz I forgot teh spenddown for DEc. I had a turn down on a script for a psychotropic med I take as I thought Medicare was covering all my meds, but NOT that one- medicaid covered it! and It was Over $50 to pay out of pocket. I will have to call my Medicaid social worker to find out IF my anniversary date is Nov, and If I got booted OUT of the system! I hope not as I DID NOT get a recert mail-in form- which I and MOH could swear I get in MAR-APR!

Well, I moved the Diner to upstate NY October, before it got moved to AZ in Nov. The upstate move put it closer to Me {galaxy} and Ray {howmus} in central Upstate NY! Peeps wanted warmer weatehr so I moved it to AZ on a suggestion....Ray and I were hoping for a white xmas for the month of Dec., but Sacre-mento Californy won out! WE will have to search the hills for snow in Californy to ski on! Perhaps next summer, as you suggested we will ahve the diner on the joisey shore!

 Mourning, where ever we are?

Flo, I take a English Muffin and a Diet dew Please.

Did not feel like talking yesterday, for some reason I was down in the dumps Wednesday. No good reason for it but there I was.

I was called for the second interview yesterday for Ashly Furniture, will have it today more than likely. Wife found there number on call ID. She was gabbing with a friend when the call came in.

Galaxy While $10.00 does not sound bad, it is only $400.00 a week. My unemployment $428.00 a week after taxes, so it is a pay cut. But Sue will start getting some of her SSI if I am off unemployment so that part may work out.  On the commission part. I need to make $30,000 a year. To make $30,000 I will need to sell $56,000 ever month. Could be very doable, maybe not. I do know the store sales are down, is it the staff, the location or the economy? Anytime business is down, they blame the Salespeople.

 G Plain I sent you a PM

Jeffery Is it about the scanner? I will check later.

Morgan Can I have the goggle link again please?

Ulrich You plan is the Atlas RTS? If it is you sure are way more advanced than I am! Big Smile But that would not be that hard. Yes I would like a copy of the plan. On the hidden staging, did you do the math? To me it looks like the total hidden part is around 360 inches. That is 180 inch down and up. To gain 6 inches clearness means a 3.33% grade and that would be in dead center only. Or was the entry spot all ready lowered at the mine section?

I am coming slowly to the conclusion that I do want much, and the room is to small. Plan I was working on yesterday only has 3 main lines. It was looking pretty good till I hit the town section then it got silly looking. More I mess with this, the better my layout is starting to look to me! Whistling

 See you all later today.

Welp--Good Morning

After spending a good 4 and 1/2 hours at the hospital doing the pre-op screening and such I got to spend some time at the university getting some Xmas presents for some of my relatives....then going to the mall to pick up some more stuff. On the 10th of December I go in to get the Defibrillator put in me. Good morning. It's 33 and sunny. the expected high is 66. Tonight's low will be a little warmer at 40.

The Bachmann GP38-2 that I ordered on Nov 28th will be arriving today according to the UPS tracker. On the train stuff sorting front, only three more boxes to go through. I suspect they contain rolling stock. Once I finish sorting the trash from the treasure (sometime today) I'll start figuring out which treasures I want to keep and which will be posted up for y'all to fight over.

That's him in the picture. I found out when he told me.

Looks like he took a bit of a spill there for sure....just curious was it due to road/weather conditions or because of distracted driving??{fooling around with friends, talking on cell phone, texting, loading a CD}? If it was the latter, I hope he go the message not to drive while distracted! Even if it was the former, I hope he's more careful in bad weather conditions! In eitehr case I wish him no more harm.

WEll, MOH is up now...

I have no clue, nor is do I feel it's my place to ask. I don't even think he had a CD player in his truck. I think he tried whipping it onto the blacktop from a gravel road.

Played with a different idea this time. Built the bench and then added track. Main line (all I got drawn) is 155 feet.

 Thoughts?

Good Afternoon

I am just back from a sleigh ride to Rotenburg on my consultancy "job". I can´t remember ever seeing so much sn*w on a December 2nd! We got about 2" last night and it is still sn*wing like mad outside. The global warming must take place somewhere else!

Flo, a mug of dark roast and a slice of that apple pie for me, please.

Barry - I will keep you in my Angel on December 10th!

Ken - if you don´t have a layout to w*rk on, and the only MRR activity you can do is to play with a track planning program, than there is no way avoiding to develop some dexterity Smile, Wink & Grin. Yes, the track plan is drawn in RTS 8.0, with a heavy use of the "Draw" function and some touch ups using MSPaint to enhance the appearance. PM your e-mail (I have misplaced it) and I will send you the file to play with!

The hidden staging yard needs a clearance of about 4", plus an inch for the subroadbed above it. with a 2 % maximum grade (2.5 % will also do), you need 250" for the descent.. Looking "eastbound", the descent should start right after the switch leading to the mine, looking "westbound", it should start about at the middle of the big curve at the lower right. The scenic divider in the middle section perfectly disguises the different levels. The staging yard should in any case be level.

That´s all for the moment - CUL

Good Morning,

28F outside and the snow is trying to stick but there is still green grass to be seen.  I continued to clean house last night before working on the club layout last night as my daughter and her new boyfriend will be staying with me for a week and one of the guys from CSX is stopping by tonight to run trains (I live a couple miles from the Collingwood Yard on the Fuel end).

Just when I thought work was slowing down for the season we had a freighter hit a Conrail Bridge, a CP bridge that needs a new counterweight, a NS Bridge that is having trouble opening, and 3 CN bridges that need revised schedules. Not to mention the 6 highway bridges being rehabilitated and 2 street bridges being painted.

Robby, everything looks really good, but one word of advice from experience; paint the bench work.  I’m having trouble in my basement with the bench work warping about 1/16 to 1/8 of an inch when the seasons change.  I’m going to buy a dehumidifier for the summer months so I can run trains…

Ulrich, I saw on the news last night Europe was getting a ton of snow this week.  A Sleigh ride sounds cool.

Lee - in my neck of the woods, we´re still pretty safe with only 5" of that funny white stuff. It is still a major issue, as we´re not used to having sn*w at all. Further up north, the situation is worse. My parents had 20"  within the last 4 hours, with drifts piling up 7 ft. high. The last time we had it that bad was 1978/79, when trains got stuck and people had to be rescued by army tanks. No, it was not Rommel commanding them, that was a little earlier Whistling
