Ho Ho Ho, must have dosed off and missed the move. Great to catch up with y'all. An extra strong coffee in a Southern mug, please.

Picked up a new can of hair spray to cover any of the latest scenic work that may still be loose. We decorated one room of the house for Christmas, but the train under the tree no longer runs. I took it apart and found a couple slipping gears. Glued them back, but no go. After the second complete tear down, I called it quits. For a train I paid about $40 for twenty or so years ago, I think it's time to retire it.

I had that problem with a G Scale Bachmann Baldwin 4-6-0 some years back. Super glue didn't work so I brought out the big guns and JB Welded the suckers. It worked.

Believe it or not I had a blond moment today. I took the old batteries out of my label maker and replaced them with new batteries. :'( Problem is I put them in BACKWARDS! :o Not hard to do as the compartment has the same type contacts at BOTH ends. As soon as the last battery went in the magic smoke came out. ::) >:( STUPID, STUPID, STUPID! >:( So I had to go back to town and get a NEW label maker. I bought the old one about 11 years ago so there's been some changes made in the meantime, but nothing I couldn't figure out within a few seconds. ;D I MADE SURE TO PUT THE BATTERIES IN CORRECTLY! :D The new unit has some options the old one didn't have, like being able to save a label design that will be used frequently. It also has some extra border designs including one of a train. :D They must have known I was going to buy one! :D

 Evening Folks

Flo, Big Boy Sub Toasted, 2 Tenders of Onion Rings and a frosted mug of Beer please.

Had the second job interview today with Stacey. Seemed to go very well as it ran long lasted about a hour and half. They all so need personal references and she asked me to get them into them today and call her when it was done, and I did.

Jeffery I will try to get the mailing cost Saturday for you. I am going to guess around $20.00, but that is only a guess. I all so have a idea for you on cheaper decoders. As I am sure you know, if you send NCE a burnt up decoder, they will send you a new one for $10.00 + $2.00 shipping. I sent in 5 BBQ Digitrax decoders from the bad old days and $52.00 and got 5 $29.99 decoders. With you pulling the cheap Bachmann decoders, send them in. The NCE I got made the Athearn RTR run way better than the DH 163's do.

Ulrich Got the RTS file today and thank you. I am very luck that you have taken a interest in my project. But I do have a question, why does the track look so much different than the ones I post? I changed the file to 2 rails and they still look total different?

Train Front Just about out of fresh ideas for the new layout. Tried some today and none of them looked right. So Saturday I am going to work on the RIP engines, I want to get the SD 50's up and running. Then Sunday take the Big Boy apart. I just hope the flywheels come off the Athearn RTR and fit the shafts that Jay gave me.

 See you all Saturday.

WEll, Jim, that's why I usually take my speeder when the diner gets moved...so I Don't have to pump my way here! Unless of course I manage to move the diner, then I get to be in the cab with the engineer! Just be sure to have enouhg extra fuel as it can be scarce to find sometimes along the way! {Nothing like pushing a speeder along the tracks uphill}

I should say , though I will bet the $40 seemed like a lot more money 20 years ago...

Jeffrey I have done that with my label maker only it didn't fry..it's a Brother Home and Hobby model. I have a natural blonde streak down the back of my sandy brown hair {well what's left of my sandy brown hair taht is} so I can legally claim blond moments. I call  it my "skunk stripe", though when it is cut short it looks a bit like I am missing hair!

Dentist was at 3 pm. Still numb from the filling. This was a difficult one as it was gum line sublingual. Numbness can be a good thing, but bad for trying to eat which i will do soon. Have another filling onthe 17th. UGH.

Have agreat evening

Evenin' folks!

Flo, just a decaf for me right now.

I think I have everything done I needed to get done for the show tomorrow and Sunday.....  Car is packed except for the laptop and the projector.

Managed to get a test fit of some items at the quarry this afternoon...  None of these are glued in place yet, and it looks like the roof on the crusher building has warped, so it will need to be replaced....  This time using a plastic compatible glue!

Have to be on the road by 8AM tomorrow morning so I doubt I will have breakfast here....

Hope you all have a good night!

Decaf coffee in a UNION PACIFIC mug, please.

***Ray, I rather like the warped roof. Especially for that kind of operation.

Congrats NERM!YesCake

But I hate to be the one to tell you that you missed one question-

the answer is: License

The question is: how do you properly spell what the DMV gives you so you can drive?

{Don't worry it took me some time to remember which came first...the "C" or the "S" when I was so excited about getting mine. Huh?}  I'm glad I am not on the road where you live! {just kidding} COngrats again.

I will check in later when I am more awake. Also gotta spend some time with MOH before MOH leaves for work.

WEll have a  great day!

Good morning. It's 62 and cloudy. The high will be 70 with the sun peeking through at times.

This morning I installed a Digitrax DZ125 decoder in the Bachmann GP38-2 I recently got. If you look at the photo below you will note that there are actually two decoders. The Bachmann board (cheap Lenz POC) controls the LED's and the DZ125 controls the motor. Why didn't I just have the Digitrax decoder do both? Two reasons. #1, I didn't feel like cutting the LED's loose from the board and soldering resisters onto them and  #2, the light functions of this DZ125 don't work. That was why I pulled it out of the loco it was in. Now the setup may look ridiculous but don't laugh, it works. The loco has already been programmed with an address and a speed setting.

*comes staggering in, breathing heavily*  All right, all right, next time we move the diner, call for an "all aboard" or something, please!  I've been hoboing across country to catch up with y'all.  I'll take a RBF, double stacked bacon cheeseburger, cheese fries, and well, a LARGE, LARGE hot fudge sunday.  I've been really busy recently, with w*rk and life in general.  So far we've been remodelling our store at w*rk which has meant long hours and not to sound mean, good paychecks.  I've also been pretty busy shuffling through cars at the shop with everyone leaving for the holidays and all, so yeah, I've been busy.

I've also been doing a little of another hobby of mine, hunting.  Went this morning and saw five deer, one doe, a small 4-pt, and three spikes, so unfortunately nothing worth putting a .30-06 into and bringing home to put into the freezer.  Welp, time to head into w*rk, thankfully its not a long day for me, only about a 5 hour day, so I'm going to do my best to see y'all when I get back.  I'm so so glad to see everyone again.

Good Evening Folks,

was not up to much today - my ribs are screaming at me as I fell again this morning. Must have been one of those 5 second blackouts which put me down on an icy walkway.

Well, I did play around with Pascal´s track plan, as he does not have the real estate to put it in

- those missing 2 inches can cause a lot of headache, when space is at a premium.

Chloe, just a tall glass of Ed´s OJ for me, please.

Bama - good to see you again! How´s the family doing? I am the guilty one, having moved the Diner to this new place. I remember shouting "All aboard", though - must have been my accent Whistling

Gee, I just noticed the avatar I was trying to upload is now displaying - thanks to the Kalmbach IT people!

I hope everyone´s just fine!

 Afternoon Folks.

Jeffery Did not make it to the post offices today, Sue was Christmas shopping till around 4:00 PM.

Ulrich Sorry you hurt your ribs again, you need to stop falling down! Whistling

Could not sleep last night. I was up at 3:30 AM, poke around on the site. Sue was up and about at 6:00 AM, I hope we sleep tonight.

One of the things that kept waking me up was dreams about coal mining and there yards. How to get a mine and and a two ended yard? Well I came up with this.

Then thanks to Ulrich I was able to make this version.

While it does not have everything I wanted, it does have a lot going for it. This might be the one! Line with all the bridges will be around 4 inches taller where it crosses over the other main's. Still needs some work, but I like it.

 See you all later, Ken

Evenin' Folks!

Jamie, just a cup of decaf please.  I'll be sitting in the back booth by the stove to get warm.

I think it has finally reached THAT time of year here in the Northeast where I may have to turn on the main furnace in the house.........  Came home from RIT thos evening and found the dining room (also my old office with the main computer) was all of 65°F.  The wood stove has been lit and the house is starting to heat up a few degrees.  But any colder outside (currently 26°F) and the little through the wall heater won't be able to keep up.....  This is the first cold spell of the season and it is unusually late this year, so I don't feel too bad.

Had a great day at RIT, and it looks like we picked up at least 3 new members in the division!  Big Smile  One gentleman who has attended a few of our Meets, came over and said, "OK, I'm ready where do I sign up?"  He walked out with both the 6 month Railpass and the regular membership form in his hand...  Then two Brothers who are around 20 and have been doing operations at one of our members homes, showed up said they decided it was time to join....  Several others took the info, so it was a good day for us.

Ulrich!!!  Cut THAT out!  You keep worrying us.  I sure hope you don't have one of those episodes while driving.....  Hope you get to feeling better very soon!  My prayers to you!

Ken, I think you have a winner there!  If I had as much room, I would go with the plan in a minute!  Hope THAT job comes through for you as well!

The weather people are now predicting snow all day tomorrow.  Only 1" to 3", but enough to make some dangerous driving.  I worry mostly about the Thruway as people drive 85 or so no matter what the conditions.  I did see a couple cars pulled over by the bubblegum machines toady driving to Rochester.......

Welp!  Got some other stuff to do!

Later!

Good late Saturday night Diners!  A hot chocolate for me please.

(by Ray Dec 3) Tomorrow looks to be another busy day of non RR related stuff...
THAT's what has kept me MIA from before the move from AZ, not a lack of bread crumbs on the trail! Big Smile Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE

Ken:

(by Ulrich) Hidden staging facilities need to be carefully built, as the limited access will give you the fits when you want to put anything back on the rails. The minimum clearance should be no less than 4", requiring an approach of about 17 ft of track at a 2 % grade, which you should not exceed.
…listen to the man, Ken….I didn’t leave enough clearance on my HO A&W in Alberta, and always regretted not having the space to get my hands in to adjust things more easily.

I see you’ve moved on, WAY on from there by now!Wow The plan on page 4 (had only read that far to this point  -)  If you continue the curve at the bottom of the left hand wall a bit more, you could bring the yard away from the wall at that end.  Could that make a visually more interesting run along that long wall? My 2 Cents As to the rest, you just keep rollin’ along!  This latest is way less crowded looking than some of the earlier ones. Thumbs Up  That’s a great tip about the NCE decoder swaps. I didn’t know that they took other than NCE decoders! Bow

Todd:

Doctor told my Mom yesterday she could no longer live alone. She will be moving in with us. She’s not Nursing ome, aka Stalag, material yet.
…Kris’ mom has her “Ganny Annex” as the Brits delightfully call it, in our home. Her mobility is increasingly the issue – and we know that a “Cursing Gnome” –especially the food at our local one -  would likely kill her;  and I mean that literally.  Our home doesn’t have the structural space to widen the doorways so a wheel chair can easily pass. She’s not a large lady – and I’m wondering if wheel chair makers do “cut down” versions that are narrow enough to go through standard doorways.  Any-one any news about that?Question

CNCharlie:  Good to see you in from the ‘Peg.  Our TV nightly weather guessers do a cross country synopsis  before telling about our expected miseries – so I often think about you and Johnboy, as well as friends we have out on Vancouver Island, and in the Edmonton area.  (In fact my MIL watches the Edmonton news every night!)

Galaxy: Good to know you like the cold! Mischief

(Dec 2) Yep, I says, they's up to sumptin' 'round here. Wunder whot?
…Maybe they just got bored with their layout – you know what’s  said, “There’s a prototype for everything! LOL
(about Rob’s Christmas tree loco) I should say , though I will bet the $40 seemed like a lot more money 20 years ago...
..$65.70 in 2009 dollars!.  And they say that DEFLATION is the problem!  BTW, just an observation on Diner spelling – IIRC we called a truce on THAT – sort of a “let him who hath no syn cast the first stoane” thingDevil

George:  What road is that blue consolidation in your signature?  MEC? Maine East Coast? – like you have a West Coast too? Whistling

Robby: Like the look of the new layout.Thumbs Up

Jeff:

When I plug the cable into the camera Windows sees it as a disk drive and I can download the photos just as quickly as I would from the reader.
…that’s how my Kodak C330 point and shoot worked. However, it suddenly quit being able to use the cable, and now I have to use a card reader. So, that makes us net zero in cameraland! Laugh …and I'm curious about the twin decoders in the newly arrived GP 38-2. (Not that I’m planning such in N Scale!)  Do you have to program separate addresses? I’m assuming so. In that case, do you consist them? I’m guessing yes, if the Bachmann one has no motor leads, and the Digitrax no light leads.  Great looking tree BTW Thumbs Up Is it different from last years’?

Ulrich: Glad to hear that although snowy, you are not in peril! The TV news, as I said to my brother (UK) in his Christmas card today, shows the most dramatic views they can find.  We though the whole of the British isles to be buried feet deep. Bro says they had only 1” in Newbury, Berkshire!  That Poppy seed cake – are those maple leaves?  In any case it looks delicious!Dinner BTW, I sent you an ex-Forum email today (Dec 5 ...and got your reply, thnks Yes) Pity Pascal’s room won’t take the new plan even with the Markin curves. That revision of your version of Ken’s plan looked interesting, and quite a departure from P’s original ideas.  I was going to ask about the new avatar – what is it, Godzilla?

Ray:

… and it looks like the roof on the crusher building has warped, so it will need to be replaced....  This time using a plastic compatible glue!

NERM:  – just take it real easy over the next few weeks as this time of year is noted for some real  hazardous drivers ( and the weather can be grim too)

Looks like I’ve just about caught up in this new locale. I’d better say Goodnight and get this posted. God Bless, and prayers for all in need of Healing, Comfort, Prosperity and Peace.Angel

Goooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooood Evening, bucket of hot apple cider please 'n thank-ya.

DER JOHN: Invacare makes wheelchairs THAT are lightweight, easy to maintain, and have seat widths starting at 16". I oughta know, I sold 'em, delivered 'em, maintained 'em, and adjusted them back in my "A-1 Home Healthcare Center" days. I'd say measure the "must pass through" doorways and consult your local Durable Medical Equipment/Home Healthcare dealer. One nice thing about Invacare, the wheels can be set higher or lower, very easily, for a perfect fit. The bastages sell the footrests seperately however. I found them extremely easy to w**k on, when needed (mostly the rental fleet which was used heavily/abused frequently); and very easy to clean.

Too much else going on in the Diner to comment on. and too tired to do so, so will say "best wishes continue for those in need," and have me a seat at the RC.

Both decoders are set to the same address (They were both set on the factory default of 3 before the installation. The loco was readdressed to a new address that was set after the Digitrax decoder was installed). Both decoders carry the same address. It's the same as having two locos in simple consist mode. When I put the Zephyr in forward the Bachmann decoder turns on the front light and when I advance the throttle the Digitrax decoder runs the motor driving the loco forward. When the Zephyr is put in reverse the front light goes out and the rear light comes on. Advancing the throttle runs the loco backward. The throttle controls both decoders as if they were one. Setting the CV's after the installation was no problem. The Christmas tree is indeed different from last years. It's a new one. It was quite simple to make. I just sprayed a Bachmann tree with Clear Flat and sprinkled on different colors of glitter.

Evening all.

My day at NJIT yesterday was pretty good. About half was interesting, and I slept (well, I wanted to!) through the other half.

Well, we lost our first game 9-0. Luckily, we got to finish the game, barely. Monday's game shouldn't be quite as bad. They lost to the team we beat two weeks ago, so it shouldn't be too difficult, but I won't want to jynx it...

Well, it's getting late, and I have a long day of homework ahead of me tomorrow, so I better get out of here. Later!

(Puff, puff, wheeze - Boy, a guy's arms get tired, after trying to pump one of those old handcars over those dang mountains...)

WEll, Jim, that's why I usually take my speeder when the diner gets moved...so I Don't have to pump my way here! Unless of course I manage to move the diner, then I get to be in the cab with the engineer! Just be sure to have enouhg extra fuel as it can be scarce to find sometimes along the way! {Nothing like pushing a speeder along the tracks uphill}

Yo9u poor, poor people. Though you should probably be glad it's a handcar and not a Pole car. Sure, their great for going Downhill, but Downhill over the Sierras tends to be a lot easier when your brake doesn't consist of an 12' *SNAP* ah, 10 fo *SNAP* well, a wooden stick...

Now, I've had to take her down for 15yr, (And by that I mean a good 4 ich jolt shot out of the engine and tried to get to the screw on my glasses before she stopped running completely...) but someone grabbed a nice shot of my Chariot of Fire coming to me:  (not my picture)

With her out of play, I'm using more and more this guy:

There's a Garfield comic I want to put here, but I can't find it.

Hee hee. Yeah, him. One I wanted was printed three years I think back. Went to the lines of

"Enjoying the Fireplace Garfield?"

"Yep."    "Kinda makes me wish we had a fireplace there..."

You guys couldn't be more right aboutt he Cursing Gnomes. Went through that with Grandma. OIf you have one though, and the lady in question for either yorself or Todd, is of the minset to do it, you might look at Retirement Homes. We have one near hear called The Hearth (sits abpout 300ft from the tracks that feed into the West End of the Big Four yards in Avon, which are themselves less than 2 miles away) that is essetially assisted living apartments. There's even a kitchn in the apartment, so the person can be as independent as they want, or there's a common Dining Hall for those who can't/Don't want to. The Nurses are not (cannot be) intrusive, to the point that taking the medication even is up to the person, but are on hand if they are needed. It's not a bad setup as long as the person can shake the midset that it's a nursing home. It's really not. Grandma couldn't but a friend of hers could, and is now happily inanther one but very similar.

*comes in panting* Finally found the place

Internet has been out for the past few days. the USB wireless adaptor for the computer broke. so no internet for the past few days.

Past few days have been intresting to say the least. For starters, the AC condensor on my car grenaded. I was driving home from the gym with my dad, when we come to the light near the house. I noticed a strange smell and asked if that was the clutch (mines probably the orignal, with over 212K miles on it). My father said it smelled like brakes. Drive it about 1/4 mile and notice sparks coming out of the drivers side. I got a bit worried and nursed it the the last couple hundred feet to the house. Popped the hood immediately and when I got into the driveway. He jumped (that's the fastest I've seen a 50 year old guy run before) out and motioned me to turn it off. I did then got out and looked. Aside from the smoke, the pulley and faceplate of the AC condensor were glowing red. I knew the car was out of freon (expensive stuff for something with free in the name) so I figured the AC condensor relay is bad. found out it had been jumpered... SO a little piece of wire is gonna cost me close to $250 to fix... at least it's winter and I won't need it for a while (heck, it might snow next week). Wonder if there is a belt that will allow me to bypass it?

I gotta run down to autozone tomorrow to pick up some new spark plug cables. the accel ones on the car keep breaking when I try to get them off. I'm changing the spark plugs cause I don't think they were ever changed. They didn't carry anything but accel. I had them order a set of Bosch ones for me.

Also have some second degree burns on my right arm from more work related stuff (hot pans). It didn't blister unitl I was working out the next day. It doesn't hurt to bad, just tingles a bit when I stretch that area or have it on anything.

also went to a small train show. picked up an athearn BB CB&Q 40' box, 2 65 cobras, an older mercedes van, and a 70 alfa rameo spider for $10.

Ken, I've been doing that one for a while. I have a bunch of fried decoders that I'm gonna be sending there way.

NERM, welcome to the club of not believing in global warming.

Jeff, the new bachmann stuff looks pretty decent.

Flashwave, the only thing I order from amazon is books. I've though about maybe buying trains through them uising my student thing. but I've always found better prices elsewhere.

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

Good Morning,

I managed to get some three hours of sleep last - not enough! I woke up with my ribs hurting like mad. I guess one of them is not only cracked any longer Crying

Zoe, I need my coffee in a IV bag, please!

Ray - I am worried about these spells. I´ll have that checked up in January, as that is the earliest date I could make an appointment to have the docs make a ct.

John - the character I use for my avatar comes from a children´s TV series of the 1970´s, which was very popular, not only among children. It is called an "Urmel" - the missing link between man and dinosaur. Despite its rather odd look, Urmel (the last of its kind) has a charming character and has won the hearts of quite a few generations of children and their parents.

Ken - at the risk of being yelled at, I have a little difficulty finding out what the purpose of this layout is, other than watching trains run. There is a lot of track which you won´t be using and it will be more than challenging to adapt the scenery. Some of the curves appear to be a lot sharper than your 32" minimum requirement. Unfortunately, building a layout does not (or cannot) follow the way Mother Nature has done it with putting scenery in first and than lay the track, but it is always a good idea to plan a layout with scenery in mind. Sorry for being so persistent in that respect

Black Eye - ouch! Thank you, Vinnie for reminding me to be nice in this place.

I have reworked Pascal´s plan, so it now fits in to his locale. The plan has lost some of its elegance, but still is an improvement over his original idea.

I have posted some pictures of his layout in this week´s WPF, but here is one for those who don´t visit that thread:

Blessings to all of you and Angel to those in need.

Mourning Folks

 Flo, Diet Dew please.

Up at 3:30 AM againBang Head I have just got in the habit of going to sleep way earlier than I should.

John Do you have the plans for your layout that could be posted? While I do like this, I am all wise open to stealing, I mean borrowing someone else ideas. Glad I was able to help with the NCE decoder trade in. The NCE decoders work way better than the Digitrax decoders in Athearn RTR engines.

Ray I really like the plan, but this was only the second draft. There are still things that can be made better.

Ulrich Far as scenery, I thought there was pretty good room for some on the layout. While I like scenery, my main goal is to watch the trains.

Far as purpose of the layout, mainly to watch the trains. But, I can run coal to the power plant. Pick up Grain form the Elevator and take it to the Bakery or Brewery which ever I make it.

Yep, lot sharper turns, but I had to compromise. The Grain Elevator has 20 inch where it turns around, 22 leading in from the top, 40 from the bottom. Where the bridge passes over on the right side by the lift out is 24 inch. Rails to the power plant are 18, but that will be fine for 3 bay hoppers and my switch engine.

Far as being yelled at, never from me! You are a friend, and friends do not get mad at each other for speaking there mind.

 See you all later.

              Ken
