What's been goin on for me, over the last month...- Besides homework, not a whole lot. Just some whishful dreaming of getting my CB radio into my pick-up truck eventually, and continuing on my family's tradition of decorating the Christmas tree (First live tree in years) and puting lights up in the yard.
Tomorrow, I'm taking my driving test to get a lerner's permit.

Well, I found out one of my off-roading buddies rolled his daily driver blazer. Thing was sweet. 4 inch suspension lift and a 3 inch body lift. The engine was a worn chevy 305, but still moved pretty good. He was ok and the cops stayed home. His stepdad helped right it.

WELL, finally found out what is wrong with the Kia Sedona minivan bucking on us....It's the engine motor mount bushings are deteriorating and failing!!! So it bucks when the engine changes gears and torques differently. The 92 Taurus had one motor mount right up front top center that did the same thing periodically. The Kia will be fixed under warrantee of course...but not looking forward to replacing motor mounts every 50K miles or less in the future....
They also did a "service advisory repair"...not that is a "service advisory repair", NOT a "recall"! on the latches on the two rear sliding doors. Seems they have a habit of realeasing and the doors opening while you are driving down the road! And that doesn't warrant a "recall"??? A "service advisory repair" is something they will do for free only IF you bring the vehicle in for repair- a recall entails mailing out letters advising of a recall and replacing ALL of the failing doorlatches on ALL of the Sedonas....makes me wonder! DOes it make you wonder? I mean if the doors come unlatched going down the road!!! I think that should result in a recall. The service advisor said he has had hysterical mothers coming in screaming the doors opened and there's her kids looking down at the road as they travel down the hiway. TG for seatbelts! Hysterical? I should say so!

After long and careful thought, they have convinced me. I have come to the conclusion that they are right. The aliens did it.
I've found some more items. An Athearn 34' hopper, 2 Bachmann EZ-Command control stations with power supplies, A couple of handfuls of small trees, several small bags of utility poles, some more cars and trucks, another Bachmann trainset power supply and an Athearn power pack still wrapped in it's bubble wrap, never used. There's still a big plastic container and some smaller boxes to go through. I know already what's in 2 of the boxes. Lead rooftop vent pipes. I got them to cut up for use as weight for train cars and never got around to it. I also found 3 boxes of plaster, a box of talus, a latex rock mold and a big box of craft sticks.

Got a bit more done, well actually a good amount done, on the quarry tonight. The added rock walls have all been painted to look like...... yep! Rock! I shaped some foam to look like piles of crushed stone for under the ends of the conveyors THAT are supposed to look like they convey the crushed stone and dump it in big piles....... Then I painted them to look like..... Stone! Probably likes a bit like rock as well.
Hmmm. Wonder If I dare drink that liquid in the cup THAT used to say FGLK on it...
Guess I should get back home to the Finger Lakes so I can get warm (and away from the kerosine smell....) 48°???

Say it sure is nice here in California, far nicer than home where it is going down to 2F tonight and up to 9F tomorrow with an nice strong north wind, Oh joy.
I've been adsent as our computer died nearly a month ago and it has taken a fair while to get it fixed. It is a 3 year old laptop so we decided it was worth it to replace the hard drive which took 2 weeks to arrive at the shop. In the end we spent $280 on it once the operating system was reloaded.
Lots of birthdays this past month so belated best wishes to Johnboy, Jerry and Ray. Oh and myself too as mine is the same day as Johnboy.
Not much happening on the RR front as have been busy getting Mum settled in a care facility. After 3 months in the hospital they said they couldn't do anything more for her so out the door she went last week as soon as they heard we had found a place for her. Along with my sister we are slowly getting her apartment cleaned out. Amazing how much stuff she managed to get in there but we have to get a move on as all must be cleaned out by the end of December.
Hopefully I can get back to the Woodland Scenics Creamery I'm building. I've got the walls and roof painted but that is about it. I hope to run a few trains too.
Ken, good luck with the job hunt. Sounds like you had a great interview.
Ulrich, I like that track plan you've done for Ken but if it were mine I'd do a link to the other line just before it goes down to staging so a train could go around the circuit without having to go through staging.
Say as we're in California, close to wine country, I bet we could persuade Chloe stock a few nice vintages. I could sure go for a large glass of Merlot right now with a large chunk of french bread.

Garry, the first half that I have started will remain the same. I'm happy with that plan with a tiny alteration I will make. It’s the second half that I may change. If you recall, I found a plan in an issue of MR that I am using. The second half, actually a second room in the original, was not exactly what I wanted and I already had some changes in mind, but with all this talk and drawings, listening to Ulrich, I’m beginning to think a bit less trackage would be the way to go. Just found the Jan issue on the kitchen table tonight. I shall run right now and check. Great! That’s fantastic! I'm not sure I've seen that section before. Maybe just not as tight of shot. Reeeeally good job photographing too

WEll Toyota issued one of them "service advisories" too I see. And NOT a "recall". It's for the Prius {groan} again and this time if air is in the cooling system it can overheat and burn out the dryer{?}. Seems like manufacturers of cars are now doing "service advisories" to avoid the massive expense of a "recall".....Cheap way out it seems. It also seems Toyota also requires you to have your vehicle serviced at least once every 2 yrs at a Toyota dealer to catch the expring "Service Advisories" fixed for FREE or else it COST you to have it repaired!!!! Yep. cheap way out. If you got a Prius, take 'er in to get 'er fixed, Just don't call it a "recall"!

Good morning. It's 29 and sunny. The high will be 61. Tonight's expected low is 33.Today I expect to sort through a large plastic container and several boxes under the layout. No telling what I'll find. But first I have to get into town to get some gas and groceries not to mention getting some bills paid.

Not much happened after I went to sleep last night other than I woke up so I'll be a bit brief this morning.
Galaxy, my cold man- Actually manufacturers have been doing those things for years. As long as I can remember. If there was something wrong with your vehicle that was not safety that is to say will endanger a life, they are not required to issue a "Safety recall". If it is just a defect and it does not cause injury or death, they just issue service advisories to the dealerships and if you bring your vehicle to them for service, they will repair for free. Ran into that last with a New Yorker Brenda had. Air conditioner condensor leak. On that though they just moved the waranty expiration to 80,000 I think because condensors can fail naturally due to many things. First time I ran into the Service bulletins, was back in about '81 or 2. A buddy had a "76 or 77ishDodge Aspen R/T and the ffront right fender was rusting. Well he knew a guy that was the body man at the Dodge dealership so he took the car there. Found out it was covered. Anywho, not a new thing and not specific to any manufacturer. Their argument is, these issues may or may not exicet in all vehicles, but they do acknowledge it is the manufacturers defect if it does and will repair. However, they do not want every person with a whatever to come running in to see if they have a fender that will rust. Many times there is no way of telling until it happens so, if it does, bring it in and we'll fix it. Now if they deem the steering box will explode, then they will issue a recall. That's a bit more dangerous.
Oh well, best get moving before Mom calls and my day comes to a halt.

Briefly, we're leaving very shortly to drive to Nashville airport. Then we are flying to AZ Cactus Country for a week.
Looks like the diner was on a circuitous route. In the steam era, UP was not in either AZ or Sacremento, CA. SP proovide single line service. Alternatively, the route would be ATSF-Oakland-WP.
UP? ...Hmmm .... I guess it would be ATSF-Denver-UP-Salt Lake City-SP... Then you could have a Big Boy over Sherman Hill and an SP Cab Forward over Donner pass. Perhaps, ATSF would have started things off one of their classy 4-8-4's.

In the Case of the KIA I would say a latch on a sliding door that can release while travelling down the road at hiway speeds {or greater in some cases with some id-jets} Could certainly have the POTENTIAL to cause death if the rear passengers are stupid enough to NOT be seatbelted in! No wonder mothers show up at the dealer HYSTERICAL over it.
AS far as the Toyota... thank CNN news and RObin Meade for pointing it out and that it is NOT a "recall".

Right now we got flood warnings for the areas of the Susquehanna, Tioughnioga, CHenango Rivers where they typically flood. IS still raining cats and dogs and mice and men here. And getting blustery.
The MIL has been moved to a nursing home. One of the worst in the county. Last night teh FIL complained there were only 3 nurses to take care of 33 patients on the floor at 7:30 pm. He's gonna see about getting her in another nursing home, and if nto take her home. If she goes home though, she's not likely to get out of bed nor eat nor keep hydrated without some help/prodding. I think she is beginning to give up on life.MOH {My Other Half} is worried she will pass at holiday time and doesn't want that. But it is not up to MOH, it is more up to MIL if she refuses to eat/drink. SHe is already undernourished because "nobody can make me eat" she says. PRayers Please.

Good Morning All!Not much to report from the land of Buckeyes other then we got a dusting of snow last night..I went to the N Scale club meeting last night and after the monthly business meeting we locked up and went to get coffee..Our furance timer wasn't set and there wasn't any heat.Its set now.Modeling wise yesterday I finish the bad order cars and will return them to the club this Sunday.I will bring another box home to clean and inspect.I tried doing this at the club but,was distracted by talking-what can I say? After all I am a chatter box.I shall have a cup and look over da forum.Have a good'un!

So Galaxy, is it by any chance cold and wet where you are? My prayers to you and your family. It sounds very much like the MIL has given up on this world and is ready to be in the next. I do hope you can find a better Nursing Home to move her to. A good one can really be a blessing with all this and help make it comfortable for her. My FIL did the same thing. Just quit eating and drinking. Said he wanted to be his wife again.

Gooooooooooooooooooooooooooood Afternoon, getting a late start today after a long yesterday. I had an interview with "Officer Obie," the Chief of the North Liberty PO-Leese Department, in the afternoon. THAT Editor wants me to do some kind of an article on "use of force" and tasers due to some well-publicized incidents in the past year. So...........maybe I'll title it "Taser Tales" or "Talkin' Tasers." Don't know. It was a good, very interesting conversation however. Then had a lengthy gap to kill time in before girls high school basketball at my beloved Clear Creek Amana. Finally dragged my butt back into the house well after 10 pm and found the Diner had moved on down the line.
Cal-EEEEEEE-Four-Knee-Ahhhhhhhh. OK...w**ks for me. Has any provision been made, should the state break off and become an island this month, for getting the Diner back to the mainland???? I'll be sure to park my '53 fire engine out back for wildfire protection...

Just a quick stop.
Still snow flurrying but I made it to Lowes for some more wood for the layout.
The middle table is a 4x8, which I think will work out real good. The new table I just added is 4x6, and the rest of the table top is 2 feet wide. The layout was going to be a switching layout but I will make it a BIG dog bone. Plenty of switching, and running.
I still have to add some braces, and paint the legs black. I still want to add the back drop soon. Its a pretty big layout. Probably my biggest one yet, and hopefully this one will last me awhile!!!!!!
