Evenin' Folks!

Flo just a decaf for me.  I'll go sit in the back by the stove for a few minutes.

Weeeeeeeellllll... (very, very, deep subject).  As of this evening the quarry is now covering what has been a big gaping hole on the Seneca Lake, Ontario, & Western RR down cellar at my house.  Had to do a bit of trimming of some braces I added while it was off (remember always measure twice and cut once....  I did that and then had to cut again!).  Screws are once again holding it in place and hopefully it will be the last time I have to do this.  After I die or leave my home, my son gets to remove the remains of the layout.....Whistling  Oh. I also started to remove the floor mats so they could dry out after the flood down there.

I added some ties where they were missing and have actually started to put the last of the rail down in place (This area is all hand laid track).  Hopefully I will get a few photos tomorrow for the WPF and here in the diner.

Tomorrow looks to be another busy day of non RR related stuff...  Have to help the Pack I am commissioner for get done with rechartering, do a bank deposit for the MLK Committee, and pack for the RIT Train Show....  OK, so the last is train related, it has very little to do with my layout.  I will be starting to build a building for the area near the quarry, so I guess THAT is layout related after all.

If any of you folks happen to be at the RIT Show this weekend, stop over at the NMRA Booth and say Howdy!  I will be the grinning old guy with the beard!

Hope you all have a great night!

Homework is about to force me to go MIA again, so I'll go ahead and get my last 2 cents in before I dissappear for an unknown amount of time.

I love snow too, as long as it's not here.

It kinda-sorta snowed here in my neck of Florida. it got below freezing last night, and when we woke up this morning, all of the vehicles were iced over (that's a good, unorthodox use for a Driver's lisence: improvised ice scraperWink) and it was as cold as a freezer all day.

I want to make it public: I DON'T beleave in global warming no more.

Well, normally, I'm not one to spread those chain-mail E-mails, but I got to share this one (Let's see if the photos come up...):

Well, I guess I'll see everyone in a few days, or weeks...

EDIT: THe photos didn't come up. I'll re-post them with photobucket when I get some free time later...

Found the USB cable for my old Olympus D550 Zoom which is the camera I use for most of my layout shots. I don't need the cable at this time since I use a card reader that reads a multitude of card types, including those prehistoric SM cards which is what the Olympus uses. But what if the reader goes belly up? Where would I find a reader that reads SM cards? That's when I'll need the cable. When I plug the cable into the camera Windows sees it as a disk drive and I can download the photos just as quickly as I would from the reader.

 Afternoon folks.

Job interview is Friday at 11:00 AM

Train Front I need to quite playing with the track plan and start working on the RIP engines! I am running out of engines! I have the following to repair again in most cases.

 1 2 Athearn RTR SD 50's

2 Blue Line RSD 15. Headlight stopped working, I bent the LED leads and think I need to re solder the PC board.

3 Blue Line GE AC 6000 sounds God awful again. Found one road spike sucked up in the speakers and there may be more. Why BLI made it such a pain to get to the speakers is beyond me?

4 PCM Big Boy. It now shorts out some times when turning left. Same problem the PCM Y6 b had. Hope it is the same problem, if it is I can fix it. Just like the Y 6 when it started getting the same problem, it will make it around 4, 8 sometimes 15 times before it shorts. To me the real odd part is just like the Y 6, it only does it on left turns and I only have 3 of them, but 7 right hand turns?

I love snow, bring it on! Guess it was around 1981I was living in Indianapolis and we got nailed with around 1.5 feet in 24 hours. My room mate and I lived in a housing addition that was in a depressed area, 12 foot climb to the main road. Snow plows would not come in and the neighbors could not get out. Brian and I broke out the Dirt Bikes and we had a BLAST. Just put our feet on the road and gave it heck. Between him and I we made 30 or so runs to the grocery store for neighbors. One police officer saw me (no plates on dirt bikes) leaving the grocery store and gave chase's. I went down the hill into the neighbor hood, and so did the cruiser. It was stuck in the ditch for 2 weeks before they got it out.Whistling

 See you all later!

My Bachmann GP38-2 was dropped at my door at 12:23 today. So I see nothing wrong with it. Nothing broken or loose. Already test ran it. It's quiet and smooth, no noise, no vibration. I took the dynamic brake hatch off and it looks like it has the regular Bachmann card decoder in it. If that's the case I have a Digitrax DZ125 that will take it's place with no problem.

WELL, WELL,

                       WELL, WELL,WELL

Norfolk Southern is up to sumptin' 'round these here parts....They apparently are turning a two track main into a one track main? They just last year replaced ties and laid down welded rail. and put in new block signals along the way. Now it seems they are ripping up all that on the right side, installing switches just outside the Binghamton yard to converge to one track on the left and from Binghamton westward to Elmira-ish are taking up the right side trackage. I noticed that by my father's house  that they had cut the rails at the crossing, taken out the tracks AT the crossing, repaved the crossing leaving only the left side, and moved the crossbuck into the smack-dab middle of the right side tracks.

Yep, I says, they's up to sumptin' 'round here. Wunder whot? Seems after they laid the new track there was an increase in rail traffic along there. but apparently not enough to justify a two-track main? And CP has trackage rights on the rails through here and BNSF can frequently be seen, whether on trackage rights or leased engines, I don't know. The defunct North-South yard in Binghamton is also apparently being taken up, but that I think belongs to CP, though CP prefers and uses only the Conklin yard.

Dunno. But we've seen lots of trackwork equipment this and  last years along those lines. No, I don't have any pics. Seems they were moving along quite well, and we didn't have a camera anyway.

GOt teh medicaid thing straightened out. My case does end in March, NOT Nov. SO I just had to pay my Dec spend down payment fo $172.00. Won't be activated til Monday, though, so I have to wait til then to get my script filled.

Well almost time for my favorite TV girl, Judge Judy!

Afternoon all. Chloe, I'll take a bacon cheeseburger, please.

Speaking of food, does anybody think it's time to get the egg nog tanker hooked up yet?

I'm going on a trip tomorrow so I don't REALLY have to do my homework (don't have much anyway, but I'll probably do at least some of it), so I found time to make it in before I have to finish up my paper and go to practice.

I'm going to NJIT (New Jersey Institue of Technology) tomorrow for an engineering trip. The paper they gave us was ridiculously vague, so I know nothing about it. Blindfold Question

Ray, August and September were such a blur to me that we could have been on Mars and I wouldn't have noticed! August was when I started waitering at the restaraunt, basically doubling my hours. And I kept doing THAT through weekends in September, and then after THAT I started on my Eagle project! I was barely in this place at all, and when I was, I didn't even care where it was, as long as I could find the place! Laugh

Ulrich- Pfft, you have no right to complain! You brought us here, so you have no one to blame! Smile, Wink & Grin

Galaxy, well, I guess you're right. You can't make everyone happy all the time...

Ken- The plan looks good, but probably way too "loopy" to be realistic. If you're not overly concerned, then go ahead with it!

Wow, all this talk of snow! It's cold here, but not enough for snow- yet. Although we did have some on Thanksgiving...

Well, I better get going on homework. Catch ya all later!

 Lunch time.

Still fighting this head cold.   So maybe some work in the basement will help.

Lee......I had the old one painted black, and I will probably do the same.  Plus it makes it look a bit better painted, we to me it does.

Good Morning All!

Not much to report from the land of Buckeyes other then its cold and I done flung another log on the fire.Modeling wise yesterday I went through my scrap box and toss a lot of junk away that would never been used. Then toss 3 old projects away since they was no longer on my to do list since the project was cancelled months ago..On the bright side I found 4 pairs of #5s and 2 pair of trucks on junk cars.I toss the bodies after savaging the frame, weight and floor.

I shall have a cup and look over the forum.

Have a good'un! Thumbs Up

Ulrich, the Blizzard of 78-79 I remember it well (I was 12).  I had to help a friend with his paper route; we would take turns climbing over the piles of snow that were in excess of 10 feet high to deliver the newspaper to the porch. The wind and snow was so bad 7 people in my town were found dead less than 10 feet from their front door.  They went out for the mail or something and became disoriented in the snow/wind storm and froze to death. We lost power and were using kerosene heaters throughout the house to stay warm.  The Army National Guard was using heavy equipment to plow the roads and the big rotary plows from the airport and the Air National Guard were trying to clear the major highways. Don’t worry, Patton never showed up in his tank either… Cool

Lee - in my neck of the woods, we´re still pretty safe with only 5" of that funny white stuff. It is still a major issue, as we´re not used to having sn*w at all. Further up north, the situation is worse. My parents had 20"  within the last 4 hours, with drifts piling up 7 ft. high. The last time we had it that bad was 1978/79, when trains got stuck and people had to be rescued by army tanks. No, it was not Rommel commanding them, that was a little earlier Whistling

Good Morning,

28F outside and the snow is trying to stick but there is still green grass to be seen.  I continued to clean house last night before working on the club layout last night as my daughter and her new boyfriend will be staying with me for a week and one of the guys from CSX is stopping by tonight to run trains (I live a couple miles from the Collingwood Yard on the Fuel end).

Just when I thought work was slowing down for the season we had a freighter hit a Conrail Bridge, a CP bridge that needs a new counterweight, a NS Bridge that is having trouble opening, and 3 CN bridges that need revised schedules. Not to mention the 6 highway bridges being rehabilitated and 2 street bridges being painted.

Robby, everything looks really good, but one word of advice from experience; paint the bench work.  I’m having trouble in my basement with the bench work warping about 1/16 to 1/8 of an inch when the seasons change.  I’m going to buy a dehumidifier for the summer months so I can run trains…

Ulrich, I saw on the news last night Europe was getting a ton of snow this week.  A Sleigh ride sounds cool.

Good Afternoon

I am just back from a sleigh ride to Rotenburg on my consultancy "job". I can´t remember ever seeing so much sn*w on a December 2nd! We got about 2" last night and it is still sn*wing like mad outside. The global warming must take place somewhere else!

Flo, a mug of dark roast and a slice of that apple pie for me, please.

Barry - I will keep you in my Angel on December 10th!

Ken - if you don´t have a layout to w*rk on, and the only MRR activity you can do is to play with a track planning program, than there is no way avoiding to develop some dexterity Smile, Wink & Grin. Yes, the track plan is drawn in RTS 8.0, with a heavy use of the "Draw" function and some touch ups using MSPaint to enhance the appearance. PM your e-mail (I have misplaced it) and I will send you the file to play with!

The hidden staging yard needs a clearance of about 4", plus an inch for the subroadbed above it. with a 2 % maximum grade (2.5 % will also do), you need 250" for the descent.. Looking "eastbound", the descent should start right after the switch leading to the mine, looking "westbound", it should start about at the middle of the big curve at the lower right. The scenic divider in the middle section perfectly disguises the different levels. The staging yard should in any case be level.

That´s all for the moment - CUL

Played with a different idea this time. Built the bench and then added track. Main line (all I got drawn) is 155 feet.

 Thoughts?

Looks like he took a bit of a spill there for sure....just curious was it due to road/weather conditions or because of distracted driving??{fooling around with friends, talking on cell phone, texting, loading a CD}? If it was the latter, I hope he go the message not to drive while distracted! Even if it was the former, I hope he's more careful in bad weather conditions! In eitehr case I wish him no more harm.

Good morning. It's 33 and sunny. the expected high is 66. Tonight's low will be a little warmer at 40.

The Bachmann GP38-2 that I ordered on Nov 28th will be arriving today according to the UPS tracker. On the train stuff sorting front, only three more boxes to go through. I suspect they contain rolling stock. Once I finish sorting the trash from the treasure (sometime today) I'll start figuring out which treasures I want to keep and which will be posted up for y'all to fight over.

 Mourning, where ever we are?

Flo, I take a English Muffin and a Diet dew Please.

Did not feel like talking yesterday, for some reason I was down in the dumps Wednesday. No good reason for it but there I was.

I was called for the second interview yesterday for Ashly Furniture, will have it today more than likely. Wife found there number on call ID. She was gabbing with a friend when the call came in.

Galaxy While $10.00 does not sound bad, it is only $400.00 a week. My unemployment $428.00 a week after taxes, so it is a pay cut. But Sue will start getting some of her SSI if I am off unemployment so that part may work out.  On the commission part. I need to make $30,000 a year. To make $30,000 I will need to sell $56,000 ever month. Could be very doable, maybe not. I do know the store sales are down, is it the staff, the location or the economy? Anytime business is down, they blame the Salespeople.

 G Plain I sent you a PM

Jeffery Is it about the scanner? I will check later.

Morgan Can I have the goggle link again please?

Ulrich You plan is the Atlas RTS? If it is you sure are way more advanced than I am! Big Smile But that would not be that hard. Yes I would like a copy of the plan. On the hidden staging, did you do the math? To me it looks like the total hidden part is around 360 inches. That is 180 inch down and up. To gain 6 inches clearness means a 3.33% grade and that would be in dead center only. Or was the entry spot all ready lowered at the mine section?

I am coming slowly to the conclusion that I do want much, and the room is to small. Plan I was working on yesterday only has 3 main lines. It was looking pretty good till I hit the town section then it got silly looking. More I mess with this, the better my layout is starting to look to me! Whistling

 See you all later today.

WEll, well, well,

I have been up since 2:30 AM EST. Got up to go and made a bagel sandwich for midnght snack as my stomach was seriously urging me to and wasn't gonna let me sleep after that if I didn't quelch the fires of desire for sustenance. I just couldn't get back to sleep after that. Then the darn cat {cuddles.large orange furry longhaired siamese/himy mix} kept going Meroow! merrow! Meroooooowl! and kept me awake more. SO I watched Tv for a bit and now here I sit in front of the 'puter.

I forgot to pay my Medicaid Spendown for Dec. My fault. TSK TSK on me. So when I got to the Dr.s office yesterday trhey told me it wasn't active and that my term for medicaid ended Nov. that should be INCORRECT. My recertification is in Mar-APr, NOT Nov!! FOr those who complain about taxes and have govenors ro county people compaining aobut teh high costs fo Medicaid for your state....IT AIN'T FREE TO EVERYONE like they lead you to believe- I PAY $172.00 a month to have the medicaid coverage second to my Medicare coverage. ANd I pay for the Medicare COverage too....I spend about $300 a month to have all my health care coverage. Then cuz I forgot teh spenddown for DEc. I had a turn down on a script for a psychotropic med I take as I thought Medicare was covering all my meds, but NOT that one- medicaid covered it! and It was Over $50 to pay out of pocket. I will have to call my Medicaid social worker to find out IF my anniversary date is Nov, and If I got booted OUT of the system! I hope not as I DID NOT get a recert mail-in form- which I and MOH could swear I get in MAR-APR!

Maybe, sometime we could have the Diner over on the East Coast. I could have TSR give us a siding to use for a month. But that would have to wait until the warmer months, at least May or June (maybe we could spend the summer at the Jersey Shore!)

Well, I moved the Diner to upstate NY October, before it got moved to AZ in Nov. The upstate move put it closer to Me {galaxy} and Ray {howmus} in central Upstate NY! Peeps wanted warmer weatehr so I moved it to AZ on a suggestion....Ray and I were hoping for a white xmas for the month of Dec., but Sacre-mento Californy won out! WE will have to search the hills for snow in Californy to ski on! Perhaps next summer, as you suggested we will ahve the diner on the joisey shore!

Nothing for me tonight, Flo. I'm as nervous as all get-out over that driving test right now (I'll know if I passed tomorrow...)

I certainly hope you passed NERM!!!! {If not, no shame in taking it over again.}

... I found a crap load of Bachmann EZ-Track, mostly nickel silver but some steel...  I found an Atlas 9" plate girder bridge with nickel silver rails, part of a bridge deck (maker unknown) with nickel silver rails, ... I hit the mother load on vehicles, poles, signs, unpainted figures, hand painted figures. I even found an old Partridge Family bus! I also found a Life-Like coal tipple that needs some work. Nothing broken on it, just some thick paint and some expanding foam stuck to it. In four cardboard boxes I found scads of rolling stock, easily 80 cars...

Sounds like you got enough to make a whole 'nother layout! Did you find a PEAR tree for that Partridge? OH , The BUS, I see now... it's multicolored and will go with any outfit, Jeffrey! HOw 'bout painting your van like it???

Hey guys. Snow on the ground near me and not enough to really ride in. Oh wellGrumpy

Oh, and here's a pic of my buddie's rolled blazer

That's him in the picture. I found out when he told me.

WEll, MOH is up now...

After long and careful thought, they have convinced me. I have come to the conclusion that they are right. The aliens did it.

The following messega goes out to the 75% of America who ordered 42" TVs from Amazon.com in the last few days:

I. HATE. YOU.

Still, it's money. If any of you get a package from Amazon from Ameritek Parkway, IN, that came from me. Please order soemthing light.

Nope, T'weren't me. WE bought a new 26" and carried it out of the store. No room for a 42"....musta been on sale though if you saw them go through...

Relax...it could be sacks of heavy coal going through for all the bad boys and girls...

Geeked

True. I do take heart in the fact that magic or no, this would be even worse on an Iceberg at 2.5' tall.

OW! My 37" only weighs 30 pounds, if that much.

Early 80's vintage Bachmann hopper. Originally had truck mounted couplers. I changed out the frame in the 90's with one that couplers mounted on it.

Nice hopper. And for perspective, Amazon limits us freom lifting over 50lbs on our own. Really, that's not that bad, a bag of salt for the water system. And, some of the guys out there have arms like Russians have cannons. (And they earned them too, I bet) I ain't one of them. The bag of salt also isn't 4"ft  across, and you don't tend to need several hundred of them in one go. Most of the flatscreens in the 42-45" range start falling into the "team lift" categories above the 50lbs.

Ah well. Hard work's good for ya, right? And that which does not kill you is jsut playing with its food. Or something like that.

I guess while we are here in the State of Confusion, I should head up to the mountains and see my SIL who lives not too far away from Sacredmento (or whatever this place is called).  She now lives in some place called Quincy....  Anyone know what time of day it might be safest to be on the road around here? WhistlingLaugh

Psst, We should go hunt down Tom WHite whilst we're here. Wasn;t he in Carmicheal? Mom and I stayed with some friends in San Fran for one Spring Break. They loved having us, because then they qualified to use the carpooling lanes.

Hope all of you are enjoying the warmth of the fire and good friends!

Later!

There's a Garfield comic I want to put here, but I can't find it.

ULRICH: whats's rong with on the walls? I did that intentionally. If we wanted walk-around the outside, sommething else entirely can be tried. Hmm. Now there's a thought...

Nothing wrong with "on the Walls", but the track within 2 inches from the wall does not allow for scenery or at least a nice blending in of the backdrop. Unfortunately, this is still a common mistake.

My ribs still keep me from sleeping - ouch!

Ph, yeah. That. Duh. Get well soon, Willya!
