Not much to report from the land of Buckeyes other then I didn't make to the hobby shop or train show..Thanks to the damp weather Uncle Artie is acting up in my lower back. I took a Tylenol and I hope it helps. No modeling yesterday..I did watch a railroad video.

I shall have a cup and look over the forum.

Good morning. It's 62 and cloudy. The high will be 70 with the sun peeking through at times.

This morning I installed a Digitrax DZ125 decoder in the Bachmann GP38-2 I recently got. If you look at the photo below you will note that there are actually two decoders. The Bachmann board (cheap Lenz POC) controls the LED's and the DZ125 controls the motor. Why didn't I just have the Digitrax decoder do both? Two reasons. #1, I didn't feel like cutting the LED's loose from the board and soldering resisters onto them and  #2, the light functions of this DZ125 don't work. That was why I pulled it out of the loco it was in. Now the setup may look ridiculous but don't laugh, it works. The loco has already been programmed with an address and a speed setting.

The question is: how do you properly spell what the DMV gives you so you can drive?

{Don't worry it took me some time to remember which came first...the "C" or the "S" when I was so excited about getting mine. Huh?}  I'm glad I am not on the road where you live! {just kidding} COngrats again.

Evenin' folks!

Flo, just a decaf for me right now.

I think I have everything done I needed to get done for the show tomorrow and Sunday.....  Car is packed except for the laptop and the projector.

Managed to get a test fit of some items at the quarry this afternoon...  None of these are glued in place yet, and it looks like the roof on the crusher building has warped, so it will need to be replaced....  This time using a plastic compatible glue!

Have to be on the road by 8AM tomorrow morning so I doubt I will have breakfast here....

Hope you all have a good night!

WEll, Jim, that's why I usually take my speeder when the diner gets moved...so I Don't have to pump my way here! Unless of course I manage to move the diner, then I get to be in the cab with the engineer! Just be sure to have enouhg extra fuel as it can be scarce to find sometimes along the way! {Nothing like pushing a speeder along the tracks uphill}

Believe it or not I had a blond moment today. I took the old batteries out of my label maker and replaced them with new batteries. http://i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa268/theforumsmiles/closedeyes.gif Problem is I put them in BACKWARDS!

Jeffrey I have done that with my label maker only it didn't fry..it's a Brother Home and Hobby model. I have a natural blonde streak down the back of my sandy brown hair {well what's left of my sandy brown hair taht is} so I can legally claim blond moments. I call  it my "skunk stripe", though when it is cut short it looks a bit like I am missing hair!

Dentist was at 3 pm. Still numb from the filling. This was a difficult one as it was gum line sublingual. Numbness can be a good thing, but bad for trying to eat which i will do soon. Have another filling onthe 17th. UGH.

Have agreat evening

 Evening Folks

Flo, Big Boy Sub Toasted, 2 Tenders of Onion Rings and a frosted mug of Beer please.

Had the second job interview today with Stacey. Seemed to go very well as it ran long lasted about a hour and half. They all so need personal references and she asked me to get them into them today and call her when it was done, and I did.

Jeffery I will try to get the mailing cost Saturday for you. I am going to guess around $20.00, but that is only a guess. I all so have a idea for you on cheaper decoders. As I am sure you know, if you send NCE a burnt up decoder, they will send you a new one for $10.00 + $2.00 shipping. I sent in 5 BBQ Digitrax decoders from the bad old days and $52.00 and got 5 $29.99 decoders. With you pulling the cheap Bachmann decoders, send them in. The NCE I got made the Athearn RTR run way better than the DH 163's do.

Ulrich Got the RTS file today and thank you. I am very luck that you have taken a interest in my project. But I do have a question, why does the track look so much different than the ones I post? I changed the file to 2 rails and they still look total different?

Train Front Just about out of fresh ideas for the new layout. Tried some today and none of them looked right. So Saturday I am going to work on the RIP engines, I want to get the SD 50's up and running. Then Sunday take the Big Boy apart. I just hope the flywheels come off the Athearn RTR and fit the shafts that Jay gave me.

 See you all Saturday.

Believe it or not I had a blond moment today. I took the old batteries out of my label maker and replaced them with new batteries. :'( Problem is I put them in BACKWARDS! :o Not hard to do as the compartment has the same type contacts at BOTH ends. As soon as the last battery went in the magic smoke came out. ::) >:( STUPID, STUPID, STUPID! >:( So I had to go back to town and get a NEW label maker. I bought the old one about 11 years ago so there's been some changes made in the meantime, but nothing I couldn't figure out within a few seconds. ;D I MADE SURE TO PUT THE BATTERIES IN CORRECTLY! :D The new unit has some options the old one didn't have, like being able to save a label design that will be used frequently. It also has some extra border designs including one of a train. :D They must have known I was going to buy one! :D

the train under the tree no longer runs. I took it apart and found a couple slipping gears. Glued them back, but no go. After the second complete tear down, I called it quits. For a train I paid about $40 for twenty or so years ago, I think it's time to retire it.

I had that problem with a G Scale Bachmann Baldwin 4-6-0 some years back. Super glue didn't work so I brought out the big guns and JB Welded the suckers. It worked.

Ho Ho Ho, must have dosed off and missed the move. Great to catch up with y'all. An extra strong coffee in a Southern mug, please.

Picked up a new can of hair spray to cover any of the latest scenic work that may still be loose. We decorated one room of the house for Christmas, but the train under the tree no longer runs. I took it apart and found a couple slipping gears. Glued them back, but no go. After the second complete tear down, I called it quits. Good Afternoon,

As it is lunchtime, I think I'll have a BLT please Chloe and a big mug of Ray's dark roast coffee.

Jerry, Hope all is well with you and we are thinking of you.

I"m home today as I took a day of holidays. There is a fellow here installing some blinds we ordered. Not a great way to use up holiday time but if I don't use the days before the end of the year then I lose them. At least I'll have 10 days off over Christmas which is nice.

Have been trying to do some RR stuff. Not much really, just putting a micro trains coupler on a BMan vandy tender( N scale).  I thought it would be a 15 minute job but 2 hours later it was finally done. The frame of the tender was metal so I had to file down 2 ridges so the coupler box would lie flat and then had to drill and tap a hole for the screw. That takes a bit of time boring a hole in metal with a pin vise.

We sure have a lot of snow so far this year. In fact we have 2/3 of the total we got for all of last winter. There is a real flood concern for spring as the ground is saturated.

Well errands this afternoon and then we are taking the MIL out for dinner to a place that specializes in roast beef. Looking forward to that!

This forum and the Layouts forum are running OK but the Electronics and DCC forum is down for some reason. I get a 'Sorry, there was a problem with your last request!' message.

Edit: OK, it's back up now.

Good afternoon. I'll have a big cup of that chicory coffee. Went to town this morning to run a couple of errands and get the second half of the grocery shopping done. Why my paltry $56 in food stamps can't come through on the first like my SS I don't know. Made a bank deposit, went to the auto parts store to get some of those plastic tubes to join auto vacuum hoses together then hit Wal-Mart for the groceries and some of my medical needs. Also got new AAA batteries for the remotes when they need them and new AA batteries for my old Letra-Tag label maker. It doesn't like rechargeable batteries at all! Test ran the new Bachmann GP38-2 yesterday. It runs all right but I want better motor control. I'll be leaving the Bachmann decoder in it to turn the LED's on and off but the motor will be controlled by a Digitrax DZ125 decoder that has a problem with the light function. Found that out when I tested it yesterday but it's the only spare one I have. Like the old saying goes, make do with what you have. The Bachmann decoders in my GP30's and GP7's have pretty good motor control but the one in the GP38-2 makes it run S-L-O-W! I did a reset on it but it didn't change anything so I disconnected the motor wires from the decoder and put straight DC to the motor to see if it was the problem. It isn't. When I advanced the DC throttle the motor ran just as fast as any other Bachmann motor I have. So when I finish the install the Bachmann decoder will control the lights and the DZ125 will control the motor. I've done thsi before and it works pretty good as long as both decoders have the same address.

(Puff, puff, wheeze - Boy, a guy's arms get tired, after trying to pump one of those old handcars over those dang mountains...)

Oh, Hi, Zoe - yes, it has been a bit of a while. I got the new(er) donated iMac from my brother just before Thanksgiving, and have been tied up (no, not literally) with trying to get it all set up. The thing is HUGE, which makes taking it to my local WiFi a bit of effort to manage. I decided to buy an update DVDROM for the operating system update (would have likely taken a day or so). Other programs that I can download using my older laptop and transfer over, I do that way. Of course, last night, I noticed the screen on the laptop developing vertical lines on it. Oops Tried shutting down, re-seating the keyboard cable to the motherboard, also ran antivirus program (just in case), and one of those appear to have made the gremlins disappear for now.

Not a lot going on in the MRR department recently (due to the 'puter stuff). Have been doing a little thinking about what I need to do next, but no action. Had got in a 54' GSC flatcar (assembled kit) in N&W, and am eyeing another one on the 'Bay. (Nope, not Frisco Bay...).

Think I'll have a cinnamon raisin bagel and a Santa Fe mug of (plain old, black, no-sugar-or-other-additons, thanks) coffee and sit at the RC a bit.

Blessings and prayers,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I'll have a breakfast bagel w/ cheese and a cup of dark roast coffee (yes the real thing!) to start the day.

The sun is busy shining here in the Finger Lakes this morning.  Currently 31°F with a possibility of some of them Lake Effect Snows (the same stuff Galaxy was talking about) producing a few little snow showers later.

I have to arrange my schedule today to include several MLK, Boy Scout, and other items as well. Have to also get everything packed in the Yaris to take to RIT tomorrow morning.....

In a suicidal attempt I just did that, many moons ago. Bought my wife a scale for Xmas (which she wanted to have, but does not need it), aside from other little presents. I still don´t know how I survived that Huh?

My late wife used to get into some new outfit and would then ask me if it made her look fat!!!!!  Most of you, I am sure, know THAT there is no good answer for questions like THAT!  My wife was 5'3" and weighed in at 110lbs.  After getting beat about the head and shoulders many times due to THAT question, I finally learned to say, "Yep!  All in the right places too!"  Then grin real quick!

Best get moving....  Way too much to get done today!

 Good snowy morning.

Calling for snow showers for the next few days but not on Saturday.   Go figure I guess.

Not much planned for me today.   Work on the BN hopper some, and work on the layout a bit.

I will pop back in later.

Lunchtime in snowy northern Germany!

It seems, as if this winter is going to be worse than the last one. Never had that much of that white stuff so early into the season!

Chloe, I am having a bowl of Polish Chili Verde Soup, hot & spicy, and a mug o´ coffee, please.

After working down the HD list (grocery run, laundry) I started to work on my Swiss friend´s track plan, using the same concept as for Ken´s plan. Now his room is much smaller, so the layout can´t be as sleek as I would like it to be. He is also using Marklin (yuck!) K-track, which means sharp curves and toy-like switches, but I think I achieved the max under those circumstances Whistling

Here is the old plan:

... and now the new plan:

I am getting a little better at the graphic rendering.

Pascal is working on the "northern" part and has not yet started on the lower part, so the change in plans can be made without putting the work he has done so far at stake. The layout is now featuring an additional hidden staging yard. Main points of interest are landmark items, such as the station with its typical Swiss Chalet type depot, the "Felsenburg" castle atop of the Felsenberg III tunnel, and the famous Kander- and Bietschtal viaducts. I have asked Pascal to send me some pictures of his work to be shared with you.

Petra is having her lady friends of for a typical German Advent time "Coffee and Cake" party this afternoon. She made this lovely poppy seed & vanilla cream pie for the girls:

I hope I can snatch a slice and hide away in my den Whistling

A good one to all of you!

6” of snow over the weekend is nothing to be concerned about.  This morning we had a trace amount on the ground but not enough to break out the snow brush to clear the truck.  Those guys in Buffalo, NY however are going to get slammed with this storm as it will travel the entire 300 miles across the Lake picking up moisture then dropping it on Buffalo.
