Just stopped by to reset the thread title.

I'm fully aware that the biggest strategic blunder of modern times took place seventy years ago today.  However, a lot of water has flowed from the mountains of Oahu into Pearl Harbor since then.  Old enemies are now friends, allied with us against more recent enemies.  With all due regard for FDR's vehement rhetoric, spoken while the smoke was still rising, it's time to relegate the 7th of December to the status of the 24 hour space between midnight of the 6th and 00.01AM of the 8th.  We have more important fish to fry.

Good Evening all,

Just a coffee as I'm halfway out the door for the museum. New digs are quite nice here.

CN Charlie - sorry to hear about your mom passing.

Busy in the shop again and doing the usual end of year employee shopping while trying to get winter projects started. Had the lead mechanic on the Audi give notice as he's been hired by Brumos Porsche to head their Daytona Protoype effort, and we need another mechanic besides that. I guess it's a good problem, but it's hard to get people who know about these old relics we race.

Got the coffee and gotta go. We didn't get any of the snow but we sure have the chilly weather.

Catch y'all later, J.R.

Evenin' folks!

Flo. I'll have the pot roast you got on the special board...  And a nice hot cup of deaf ina FGLK mug to go with THAT!  I'll be in the back trying to get warm by the fire and chatting w/ Barry.

Barry, you folks must be getting nailed by Lake Effect off Lake Huron?  We have been getting some of the white stuff today, but only an inch or two.  Just enough to keep the roads slick.  The boys with the big 4 wheel drive pick-em-up trucks have sure been havin' fun out there today!!  They been flying down the city streets at about 70 mph or so.  Watched a couple do the corner with the stop sign (to be ignored) in front of my house doing at least 45 or so, then do a half donut, slide completely to the wrong side of  the street in front of other cars, then give them the look of...  "Why you out here?  Don't ya know this here's for us redneck snow plow guys with the big 4 wheel drive pick-em-ups!!!"  Well they sure were having fun hurrying off to the next driveway in their list.....  I just stayed home as much as possible, waited until the roads had been well salted before going out to do a couple of errands.

Oh!  Barry the weather prognosticators are saying more of this stuff for the weekend...  have fun!

Have not made it down cellar to the trains today yet, but I did bake some of these for you good folks!  hot from the oven,  have a couple!

Have a good evenin'!

Good Evening..,

Charlie: Our condolances on your mothers passingAngel

We got our record broken as to the total 24 hour snowfall up here---in December 7th 1977 we had a snowfall of 57.7 cm of snow(~23")---this time we got 84cm of snow(34") and we got that on top of about 48cm of it too(~20") so we got officially more than we got all of last winter---in 3 daysBang HeadTongue TiedWhistling I hope this is not an indication of what our winter is going to be like...

I too managed to spend a bit of time in my basement getting my room cleaned up so no I will be getting some stuff built...heeheehee

Charlie, sad to hear the news about your mother passing. I hope she had a good life and you have many fawn memory's of your time together.

 Flo, a beer please.

Job Front Got a call Monday from Ashley's HR department. They wanted my personal references (seems my E mail did not go through) so again I am taking that as a good sign. All so have a interview about another part work at home job on the 16th. Pays $9.00 a hour setting appointments for sales people. Either way, if I get the full time job or not I want this one. It would be between 10 to 15 hours a week and I need the extra cash.

Jeffery sorry it is taking so long to get you a prices! I was out of strapping tape, have some now. But, Sue is taking the car Wednesday so I may or may not have time to get the prices of shipping.

Question about making a DVD? This newer computer has a DVD writer and I wanted to make a copy of a Video I have that is a DVD. I bought Maxell DVD-R. After I saved the Video I wanted to copy to the hard drive and was prompted to insert the blank DVD, it kept saying I need to insert a disk. Did I buy the wrong kind?

See you all later.

Hey guys

CN- Best wishes and prayers go out to you.

I got a package from Walthers today. Woman who delivered the mail today threw it into my driveway. Thankfully my dad was home and  got it for me, but thank heavens I didn't order a locomotive or electronics. Next time I order something, I may arrange for drop off in my hands. SoapBox Is it really that hard to get out of a car and set the package by the house?

CN. Charlie,

Please accept my wife and my sincere sympathies in regard to the loss of your Mother. These are hard pills to swallow.

My Mother passed about eight years ago and she had been an Alzheimer patient for 15 years and so I thought I had done most of my grieving and that when it would happen it would not bother me all that much.  How wrong I was.   Your Mother is still your Mother and it hurts regardless.

Keep the faith, you shall meet again.

Morning/noon:

WEll about 4 inches of total accumulation lake effect drifting snow. Less than many of you got, but more than I care for. ENough they plowed the road so has to be over 3 inches for that.

MOH will have to start getting up earlier to shovel before work already, not ready for that either.

I have  Pulmonary Function Test to go to today at the pulmonologist. It will tell them I don;t breath so well.LOL

I still ahve to dig out my Kia van yet,as MOH didn't have time this AM to do both vehicles.

So I'd beter runa dn allow time to clear off the Kia.

Good Morning All!

Not much to report from the land of Buckeyes other then its another day closer to Christmas..I still have shopping to do but, that will be one stop fills all.

No modeling done yesterday because I goof off most of the day.Weather permitting I plan to head out in the morning for the hobby shop in Mansfield.I really hate to travel in the winter since Ohio's weather is like some old woman that can't make up her mind what's she fixing to do next.Of course when I was younger that kind of stuff never bothered me..I suppose that's because there wasn't much of a choice since I had to go to work when I was called or later when I was working a 40 hour week job..No big plans for today..

I shall have a cup and look over da forums.

Have a good'un!  Thumbs Up

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, nice big bowl of hot oatmeal w/ brown sugar would hit the spot.  Oh, I need a cup of dark raost caffee in a R&GV RR Mug as well.

Mornin' Bill.... Yep, the day that lives in infamy!  Ulrich, you are very right!  War is one of those horrors humans get involved in from time to time.... Sometimes makes me ashamed of my species.  There has to be a better way, but I doubt it will happen soon.

There is yet another anniversary today.  This one happened on Dec. 7, 1941 as well.....  Read about it here!

Whole lot of little white thingies falling out of the sky here this morning...  Most seem to be hurrying sideways at 30 mph at the moment.  They say we will get about 2 to 5 inches more of the little things today....... 24°F outside the door right now and it feels like 11°F...  Unfortunately I have some errands I have to run, so i will be out driving around in it for a while later today.

Later!

Good Morning,

CN Charlie, I’m sorry for your loss. I’m sure it’s harder so close to the holiday season.  Thoughts and prayers to you and your family.

Double deck layouts: don’t forget you’ll need room for lighting, even if it’s a string of miniature Christmas lights.

Vincent: M60 tank weighed 46 to 50 tons depending on turret design. A standard flat car can carry 105 tons. A gondola can carry 143 tons. Friends of mine worked at the Lima Tank Plant building the M1 hulls.  The tanks were loaded two to a flat car without turret or engine. The hulls were built in Lima then shipped to Detroit to have the engines installed then shipped back to Lima for turret installations.  The finished tanks went out one to a flat car.  The general rule of thumb is tires = 2 vehicles to a flat car and treads = 1 vehicle per flat car.

Good Morning,

not much sleep last night Crying

Janie, just coffee, please. Make it an IV bag this time.

Charlie - I am sorry to hear about your mother. please accept Petra´s and my Angel. My father is turning 84 today and I am happy about each day the telephone is not ringing to give us the word. We know, that in this age, every day is a gift, but the thought to lose my parents one day is an unthinkable one.

Today is not only my father´s birthday, but one of the saddest days in US history. In 1978, I was able to visit Pearl Harbor  and pay my respect to those who lost their lives during this attack. I hope that one day we all will learn that war only means a loss.

And there is another anniversary on this date. 175 years ago, the grand opening of the first railroad in Germany was celebrated. It ran from Nuremberg to the neighboring town of Fuerth. The line never became part of the German Rail network and was finally amalgamated into the Nuremberg light railway system.

Blessings and Angel to all of you.

Flo, an RBF for me

Got the new sparkplugs and spark plug wires in. Kind of a pain to reach the ones at the back of the motor. I broke 2 trying to get them out, never seen them break like that.

I managed to pick up 3 HO scale M60 tanks. I'm gonna be putting them on flat cars. M60s are limited to one per car unless it's a 4-truck one, right?

Charlie, Sorry to hear about your mom.

Joe, Running DC locos on DCC is a good way to wreck a motor.

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

Evening Gang:

Charlie you and your family have my deepest condolences. I'll say a prayer for her and for you guys.

Not much tonight. It's being one of those nights that I can't seem to fall asleep. The worst part is tomorrow is Mary Ann's dialysis day.  That means the alarm goes off at 4am. At least I don't have to take the grandkids to school so I can come home and go back to bed after I drop her off.

No MRRing again. I have been working out in the shop trying to get it cleaned out. I did make one great discovery. That industrial table saw that I bought at the company auction about 6 years is not 3 phase. Now I can hook it up and don't have to spend $ 500 for a phase converter. Since I only paid $ 50 for the saw that's really great. I worked on the live steam locomotive the last week. Bad news is it needs a new water tank. Good news is I can patch the old one untill a new one is made.

Well I think that I'll head out and see if I can get to sleep.

Good Night All

Evenin' folks!

Flo, just a cup of decaf for me.  I'll be in the back booth by the stove.

Charlie, my prayers for you, your family, and for your mom!  These things are always hard even when they are expected, and even when the person has lived a long and good life.......

I managed to get some more track hooked up in the quarry area today.  I also ran the snow blower for the first time.  Went out, primed it and gave it a few pulls....  Nothing.  Now a month ago it started on the first pull.  Today won't even pop.  So I get out the can of starter fluid, remove the spark plug (as you can't get near the carburator to spray it) give it a shot, replace the spark plug, and give it a pull.  it pops a couple of times and dies...  I give it a couple of more pulls and it more or less starts, but is barely running.  I open the choke, and it stops.  Pull a few more times... nothing!!!  Remove spark plug, give it another shot of starting fluid.....  Pull the rope, and it does the same thing.  Starts but is only idling and half running.  I touch the throttle and Whooooommmmmm!!!  it is now running at about 8000 RPM...  Then idles back down to normal...  Guess the throttle was frozen....  Runs fine after THAT.  Snow was anywhere from a dusting to about 7 inches deep.  Not a lot of it, just lots of wind to pile it up for you.  More in store for tonight.

Hope you all have a warm and safe night!

Charlie- I'm very saddened by your loss. Please accept my condolences. My prayers go out to you and your family for peace and understanding. My Mother will be just 81 on the 17th and is having troubles. I know what you mean. Though she isn't ready and neither am I.

Been super busy with the last minute stuff at Mom's house. I have been peeking in the window in case I missed something like what happened to Charlie.

I will continue passing by but not much time to stop in. I wanna get this house done.

Jeff's tree does sorta get me in the spirit. Just too busy clearing out some time.

Prayers For Those In Need.

Two hours between posts here this evening - gives the staff time to be making decorations for the Party! When is that BTW?  Edit - when I wrote that I was right behind PC, but by the time it hit the Diner Ulrich and CNCharlie had dropped by. Really sorry to hear of your mother's passing CNC, you are in our prayers, it will be a difficult time no doubt. Kris' mother is 94, and each time she gets ill, it is that much more difficult for her to bounce back.  As you say, you have many years of memories.

Ulrich,Thanks for the kind words on the track - that was some time ago now!

John - HOn3 gauge is slightly larger than N gauge, it is 10.5 mm between the rails. There is only 1 importer for Shinohara track in Germany and the guy is making use of this situation....

Does anyone have an idea on a low to no cost HOn3 layout, involving hardly any space, but 3 # 4 turnouts (2 right, 1 left), just to give my little loco a chance for a workout?

....that HOn30 section I had used the Shinoara track in the fore-ground (see the photo page 11) but regular Atlas N Flex up on the parts that didn't show.  As far as gauge went, the locos had no problem with the difference.  I guess, what I'm saying is that if you "just" want a small layout to be doing something with the loco and switches available for low cost, then N Flexing  that plan you worked out may be a solution. My 2 Cents

How does the 8 1/2" work out for ya?  I was thinking of more like 6" for when I do my sceniced layer over my yard (if I ever get to it), but I don't know if it'lll be enough room.  The shelf is 12" wide there and there are 4 holding tracks and a through track behind those in that area.
....I have about he same shelf depth. How well it works depends I guess on a number of things. In my case I wanted (and still do of course) to operate in the lower yard, and my switches and uncoupling are manual. That requires enough room to get at things with a fair degree of finesse.  In addition, height is reduced by the thickness of the roadbed and sub-roadbed, and the wiring which I slung underneath that;  as well as the lighting necessary to see what on earth is going on!  A further consideration is personal morphology!  I happen to be small limbed (aka skinny), and so this isn't an overwhelming issue, but other people might need to plan for their own body type. Whistling
