Good morning from snowedinLondontown...
Wherein we could be seeing yet more snow than we already have...well, at least we don't need to go out in it today.
The fun will be tomorrow when we will, apparently, be seeing even MORE snowsqualls--and I got to go to the hospital to get my defibrillator put in me...if it don't get cancelled out first because of the snow---again
Oh well, today, I'm going to get some work done on the layout and see about getting some decorating done ...
Flo, I'll have coffee in an IV bag as well as a breakfast platter please--scrambled eggs and 3 slices each of the bacon, sausage and gravy on the fries ---I'll be at the RC for a bit...

Good Morning Folks!
Cup of coffee please!
Hope everyone has a great day! Stay warm, it's freezing at my location.

Good Morning,
Due to high winds the snow didn’t accumulate much. The back fence has an impressive snow drift and everything has about 6” of snow.
Last night I laid the base coat of gravel behind the dairy and fire station, maybe tonight I can build up the dividing shrubs and trees on the edge of the property.

Morning Folks
Well it has gotten colder again, it is 5 degrees this mourning. I like snow, never did say I liked cold!
Big Mug of Coffee please Flo.
Got up a little later this mourning, sleep to 5:30 AM so I am starting to get better.
Now that the fear of the new job is starting to fade, starting to think about the new layout more. All need to take some time and start looking at what is in the storage room I need to get rid of. All so need to start planing the frame work.
See you all after work.

I hate Rust
Good morning All,
21F and a light snow drifting down from on high. No wind yet so it's actually pleasent. Got some cars upgraded for the Horribly Oversized gift shop loops last night. Kaydees' and metal wheels (Intermountain which I get in bulk) nothing fancy or weathered, just trying to keep everything off the ground. The cars were mostly all old bluebox kits that have been donated over the years. Some had some funky sprung trucks THAT were falling to bits so I changed them out as well.
Lots to do again so I'm out to the shop to get started. What was that sound out back just now? Sounded like someone strangling cats - oh what that you say? Ray's giving guitar lessons in classic Spanish? Sounded like the inquisition there for a minute - but then (ta da) No-One Expects The Spanish Inquisition! CUL, J.R.
Good COLD morning. Its 12 degrees and the windchill is -3. Its going to be a cold day!!
Not much planned for me today, just to cold to do anything/go anywhere. Maybe later I can work in the basement some.
Everybody have a good morning and stay warm!!
"Rust, whats not to love?"
Good morning. It's 28° and clear. The high will be around 57° and it will be sunny to partly cloudy. As I likely will NOT be going outside today (unless I have to) I'll Probably be scrapping up some old ballast on the layout in preparation of putting down a layer of wall joint compound to level those areas. I still have the list for my 2nd lot of HO items up. I need to get rid of as many of these items as I can. Tomorrow a 3rd lot will be added. It includes some vehicles (vans, cars), some Caterpillar equipment and of course some railroad cars. Lot 2 can be found HERE.

Good cold morning!
I hav the pulmonologist today. IF we can get into the Kia. HTe silicone onthe door rubber did not help. WIll ahve to apply it liberally to the door seals perhaps that will keep them from freezing shut. Will ahve to wait for it to get warmer to do that though, I think. AMybe nto if we can;t get into the durn thing I can't drive it anywhere.
Boy I see a lot of newbies who just want to jump right in and get a train-any old train to "play" with. They don't get that a little reading first can save tehm headaches, heartaches and disappointments later on. AS much as i knew form having O-O/27 and N scale previously, I jumped into HO green and made a few mistakes and I did follow the forum for awile before I bought that first cheap set just to have something to run. AND I really didn't know what a DCC was and that I would want one!. I try to tell tehm to READ READ READ first, but they will do what tehy will...
Not much else, tired though.
HAve a great day.

After long and careful thought, they have convinced me. I have come to the conclusion that they are right. The aliens did it.

OOH! Nice pic. Southern Duplex? Or is there a second set of drivers in there I'm missing? Still a cool picture. Someday (won't be soon) I still want to build my Duplex Cab FOrward with the Saddletank on it.

Morgan,
I noticed that too and wondered. Some of the local dump trucks route exhaust gas through the edges of the bed to keep the dump body from icing up - same thing here with the passenger steam routed through the hopper? J.R>
Good Morning All!Not much to report from the land of frozen Buckeyes on this frigid Tuesday morning.Modeling wise yesterday I worked on the undecorated RS1 shells.I had one frame that was warp but,it was easy to correct..Both shells came without horns but that's ok since I will be using BLMA's Nathan M3R1 horns. No big plans for today..I shall have a cup and look over the forum.Have a good'un!

Good morning people!
Zoe I'll have a breakfast bagel this morning to go along with a few cups of dark roast coffee in a R&GV RR mug! I'll be at the Rivet Counter.
Already spent an hour researching and trying to get a problem one of my NMRA Members is having with a newsletter subscription..... Now I get to wait and see what those higher up than me have to say......??? We got just a dusting of Lake Effect Snow last night, but the temps are still down around 12°F and with the wind feel like -5°F... Good day to stay home! Unfortunately I also have a doctors appt. to go to. Have to go get my ears cleaned out this afternoon.
Ken, very glad you had a good first day at the new job! I hope this will work out for you and be an enjoyable way to pay for hobby expenses....
Barry, I hope they have the roads cleared tomorrow so you can finally get the procedure done and over with. Waiting for these things is usually much worse than the procedure itself! You will be in my prayers.
Galaxy, just remember good choices come with experience. THAT involves having made some bad choices!
Best get a move on...

Ray Seneca Lake, Ontario, and Western R.R. (S.L.O.&W.) in HO
We'll get there sooner or later!
Good Morning, Zoe, I'll have a blueberry bagel and a Santa Fe mug, please (in keeping with the season ). Thank you!
Ray, another great photo from your layout. And that trolley looks good in the snow (maybe could use some green trim around the windows for the season...).
TMarsh Jim- Glad you weren't hurt. I do believe a prayer of thanks is in order this eve.
Jim- Glad you weren't hurt. I do believe a prayer of thanks is in order this eve.
JR, I'm not sure but that all the damage may be to the (fiberglass or whatever they're using on cars nowadays) bumper. It has a sliver of something dark (fiber?) sticking out about a centimeter or so, so I at least want that cut/sanded down so nobody (like me next summer when I'm washing/drying the car) gets scratched/cut by it.
Inch, I bet Yazee'll be having a fun time this Christmas! Kids have about as much fun opening the presents as some of us adults do - even if we try to duct tape 'em down!
CN Charlie, your Mum's funeral and reception sounds like it would make her proud. for you and the rest of the family. Stay warm, with your weather - you definitely need that coat!
Ulrich, that sounds great about your plan being featured on Ahrent's website. I've been there a few times before, looking for ideas for myself. Like the Cimarron design - it looks like "Olde West", great job (again). Keep yourself warm there!
CudaKen, the other driver said in the officer's presence that it was her fault, so I wouldn't expect that it would be hard for her insurance company to figure out... But I will see about picking up a copy of the accident report myself from the police station this week, just to be sure. Check out "Cajun Chef" Ryan's website; I think he may have some 3D Plan It tips and/or tutorials on there that would be helpful. Sounds like your new job will be a good one for you.
Barry, with all those deals I hope you wore your mask! That was a bunch o'stuff for the money, all right. And will add "clear-enough" roads so you can get your defib. done tomorrow.
Robby, glad you've been selling off those cars (as I expected you would, and the eBay prices were probably better, anyway). And that boxcar looks good great (as usual).
Galaxy, for me that situation would be more like the company would say "We've discontinued that model, and the new one is (3X the price)"...
Bama, good to see you again - how's the house (and layout) going? Are your girls looking forward to Christmas?
NE MRR'er, I think (from this morning's weatherguesser) that you need to head further south (like Miami or Key West) to get warm today!
DerJohn, you continue to amaze me with your ingenuity in that iNvisible scale!
Lee - any chance of photos of your new scenicking? (Puleeze, please?) How's your Santa corner of the layout doing, by the way?
Think I'm gonna look for a small (portable) surge protector for my laptop. I have lately been having some flakiness on the screen when I use it at my local WiFi (but not at home) - some vertical dashed lines (maybe inch to inch-and-a-half apart), and the cursor has a thin vertical rectangle under it (about an inch tall or so). I'm suspecting that they are having some noise in the power plugs (under the bench seat where I'm sitting), THAT may be the source of the gremlins. I did some fiddling with changing the plug and/or going to battery only power last night, which seemed to help. Yep, a small surge to go between the outlet and the power cord...
I'll be at the RC a bit, enjoying my bagel.
Prayers and Blessings,
Jim in Cape Girardeau (freezing mix predicted tomorrow night...)
How do you like that! I posted a thread out in the main room with a link to the site where I have some HO stuff for sell and it was deleted without even a word.Well I can still post it on a few other forums.
Just a sweet tea, please. It did warm up some. Now its 17 degrees, and wind chill 5.
Went to get Jessica some lunch, and get a few more gifts and......Seen a couple of small cranes fixing a derail near a warehouse. Kinda looked like my switching job on the layout.
The warehouse has two sidings and one of the hoppers were on both sidings, so that's not good. They expanded the sidings over summer, but I guess they did a bad job of laying track. What sucks is...You can get down to the wreck to get some shots. You have to look while you drive.
Well I guess I better wrap some gifts. I will pop back in later.
Good Evening,
my internet connection went down, just as I was typing up a lengthy post
Janie, I´d like to go for a mug of hot cocoa with some rum in it, please.
Did a little bit of serious work today and drew a track plan for a friend of mine in the UK. It´s a small 3 by 7 ft. layout, which is supposed to catch a typical suburban UK flavor.
This is it:
Hope you all have a good one!

Ulrich: Yes, that 3x7 N Scale layout would be a lot of fun to operate! I like the station siding with platforms on both sides - gives the school kids much opportunity for mayhem!
Signal is now ready for install I have to prep the site (carve out scenery to take the base, and drill out existing hole through baseboard to take the LED assembly. Once installed, I'll have to make a dummy signal facing the other way (near a tunnel mouth, no way to see it if it were a working one).
Arts Soc Dinner tonight - we're bringing a shrimp and scallops curry. Better get ready for that.

Hi guys,
I told the pulmonologist I'm at a point where I can't breathe halfway walking toa store. MOHhas to let me out and then go park. WHen we go the towers at the hospital for his office I had to pause 3 times to catch my breath. It's really bad when it is cold like it is now, or when tehre is a lot of moisture in the air. I can winded doing y morning constitutional or waking the 1/10th mile to the mailbox on a flat paved surface. If I undload a few groceries, I sit and pant for about 20 mins before I can put the groceries away. Except at night when my pulse oxygen drops to low which is why I have O2 at night, my pulseox remains good, but how hard are my poor lungs working to get that good pulseox reading leaving my breathless.
I was a smoker, but quit 5 years ago so I wouldn't have such problems. My asthma has actually gotten worse since I quit smoking.
Of course 3 years ago I had a severe case of pneumonia and spent 2.5 weeks in the hospital battling it. That really started me on a downhill course.
He sent me for xrays and bloodwork to determine If I might have some blood clots somewhere and to see him again next week. Then he may order more tests.
We shall see what we shall see when we shall see it.
Have a great night guys
Jim is "Cajun Chef" Ryan's a member here on the site or a real Chef? I did a goggle search and found a food chef by that name. Is it the same person?
Flo, just a Please, I won't be staying long.
Jeffery Let me know if you don't sell the flatcars. At this point flat cars is the only thing I could use.
On the work front. My first big concern is the gas I am using for training I am sucking up around $10.00 a day. Between cold weather (Town Car mileage suffers when it is below 35) and traffic I am only getting 20.5 MPG. With out the traffic (rush hour) and warmer temperatures I was getting 26.5 MPG. Round trip is 62 miles.
Training has turned into a cluster something. Now, I understand with the passing of the father. I just hope I don't pay the prices when I hit the store.
Got the pay plan explained better, and feeling better about that as well. Rest of the day was a waste as far as I am concern.
See you Wednesday.
Ken: Check your PM's.
Evenin' folks!
Flo just a decaf for the moment.

Jeff??? You having some Bi-Polar difficulties today???
Galaxy, I sure hope the docs stay on top of whatever is causing your being out of breath like THAT! Doesn't sound like a good thing at all.
I got my ears "roto rooted" out this afternoon. She said they weren't too bad actually, but did remove wax from both ears. I seem to be hearing a bit better. I also need to get the hearing aids cleaned. THAT will probably make a bigger difference in my being able to understand people. Lets see, I also mailed the Christmas Cards, did some shopping, and fed the woodstove. THAT didn't want to light this morning... Took a while to get a good fire as the wood was some I brought in after the rain the other day. Could be a bit damp. It has finally taken off and is heating the house quite nicely at the moment. It is all of 14°F outside with a wind chill of 1°F.
Started cleaning up the mess in the train room. Have a lot to get put away and cleaned up if I am to invite people over here during the Holidays to see the layout.
Catch you all a bit later!
JimRCGMO NE MRR'er, I think (from this morning's weatherguesser) that you need to head further south (like Miami or Key West) to get warm today!
No such luck. : Miami- high 46 and Key West- high 56.
It may be warm to everyone up North with snow flowing out everywhere, but for me, it's still too cold.
I see my learning the gutar has livened up the joint (eather that, or everyone came out of hiding after I said I don't have my permit yet)
Well, I finally got my permit today. and I drove around the neghborhood for the first time today, too.
Here's the report: At the DMV, they have up-graded the "sign your name here" to a computer signer thingy (the signing pad for use with a credit card at the grocery store) and that was a pain. I had to sign my name close to 30 or so times before I got it right (Thank goodness it was a quiet day, and that the clerk was a patent person) and after that, I got my lisence (I can't sign my name to save my life)
After we got home, my Dad and I took my truck out around the neghborhood, and let me tell you: Driving on a road with other drivers is NOT as easy as I thought, especially when that U-Haul truck started comming into my lane on the curve ( I almost took out the neghbors trash cans)
In short, My heart was racing the whole time, I only did right-hand turns, I didn't hit anything, and the neghborhood is still as it's suppose to be: quiet, without any added damage.
It was not as easy as the Driver's Ed simulators made it out to be (then again, in a simulator, there really wasn't any threat of a collision)
I'll try to check back in later...
howmus Jeff??? You having some Bi-Polar difficulties today???
It rarely goes below 10 F here, but it was 5 F this morning. Ice is forming on the lake, and that is rare also. Nuts to global warming.
Ken .... I emailed Ryan and suggested he check in here at the dinner (Flo... have some coffee ready for Ryan, please) .. Yes, he's Cajun Chef Ryan... He and his family left New Orleans after Katrina for North Carolina. .. He sells some super good spices on the internet. He is talented with softeware, too.
Jeff ... Did someone say "Grin and Bear it"... Tell your friend to reverse directions, please. As for the other critter, who gives a hoot?
JimCG ... Good to see you here.
Barry ... I recall tomorrow is the day for the surgery. Am I correct? ... Prayers for you. I have faith it will go fine for you.
Galaxy ... As Ray says, I hope the docs solve the breathing situation for you. Prayers.
Cheers, everybody

EVERYWHERE LOST; WE HUSTLE OUR CABOOSE FOR YOU
Evening all, just a RBF for me. I'm about to head off to bed as I have a truck that's going to need a tune up first thing in the morning so I don't need to go spending the night up on here, although it doesn't mean I don't want to.
Jim, on the house front, we've got all but one bathroom and one bedroom finished up, kinda holding off during the winter on things so that once spring hits we can knock the remaining bathroom and bedroom out. We have all the materials, just don't have the gumption to do it during the winter. One the layout front I've converted a bunch of cars that I'm going to be keeping over to the various couplers you sent to me, again, my most sincere thanks for them. I'm also working on repainting locomotives and cars so that I'll have one less thing to worry with once I get around to actually starting on bench and trackwork.
Barry, prayers and well wishes from me and mine to you and yours tomorrow, and hopefully the snow won't delay it any longer so that it'll be over and done with and you will be well on the road to recovery.
Well, its supposed to start warming up a little bit more here in Bama starting tomorrow, but it also means that the rain chances will increase, but that'll be all right. Welp, guess I'll finish my RBF and head off to bed. Goodnight all, and later taters!
Good Morning ! from Tipton IN.

Bill T.... The early bird gets the worm and all that stuff, but it's 12:30 am CST..... and the gorund is frozen! ....
Bama ... good to see you, too!
Geeeeeeeeesh! I finally get to sit down and have a cup of coffee with BILL! Nice to see you sir, uh, you gonna be bringing anymore of them lady-friends of yours around again anytime soon??? And GARRY is here too? Nighthawks in the Diner time.
I've been piddling away at some w**k stuff, trying to get a jump on things so THAT I won't be buried in it come Thursday night. But...Dec. 14th was a day of distraction, has been since Dec. 14th, 1996. THAT's the day I had my closest brush with death when the pumper I was aboard slid off a muddy/icy/slushy road and rolled over in the ditch. The result was my being trapped under the truck blinded and choked by my air mask. Of the three of us (Firefighter Chuck Lafler-driver, Firefighter Doug Webster, and myself playing Lieutenant), all were ejected; I was the most seriously injured with multiple skull fractures, a significant concussion, multiple facial fractures, and my lower jaw was snapped in two.
The pile of stuff behind the front wheel is the gear they cut off of me, and THAT is where they pulled me out from under the Engine. The black thing to the right is the seat Doug and I were sitting on in the back of the cab. Where the canopy roof is crushed down, is where I had been sitting. IF I had not been tossed out, I would've been crushed. My Morning Pride LiteForce helmet was badly damaged. The inner and outer shells were cracked, right where the skull fractures were. I thought our helmets were "el-cheapo's," but I've been a major fan of Morning Pride turnout gear and helmets ever since. THAT helmet saved my life...no doubt about it.
To this day, I have noticed personality changes, some memory issues, my sinus SUCKS, skull-crushing headaches are the order of the day when it's hot and humid, among other less-irritating "reminders." For surviving this, I earned the nickname "Lucky." I even was presented a dept. T-shirt with THAT embroidered upon it.
So...ever since THAT day, the 14th of Dec. has been a day of distraction and contemplation as I think about what could've happened...indeed, what more than likely "should" have happened. Normally when a fire engine rolls over and guys are ejected, somebody dies. With this one, there should've been at least one, if not three names engraved on the Line of Duty Death (LODD) wall at the Iowa Firefighter's Memorial near Coralville.
Thus, even though it is now 52 minutes into Dec. 15th, I raise a glass (of Southern Comfort). I raise a glass to those of us here in the Diner who have had THAT close brush with death, who almost shook hands with The Reaper; who have had "a sneak peek at Jesus (to borrow from The Drew Cary Show)." Why we got THAT "second chance," we may know, we may never know. Yet...here we are.
OK, enough profundity... I don't want to ruin our image! I'm headed off to bed. I'm leaving the SoCo behind the counter. Feel free (legal age gents only please) to ask the ladies for "Lucky's Night Medicine."
Here's wishing a good, SAFE day for us all. Special thoughts to BARRY as he gets his defib today.
