A good early morning to you all, nothing much to report on my end of the world here, just about to head off to bed so I can go and do the w*rk thing later. On the MRR front, I've been able to get some time put away for repainting of locomotives. I currently have three that will be seeing the paintbooth. I've got a LL GP38-2 currently in Chessie System colors, a Athearn BB GP40-2 currently in blue and primer, and a Bachmann SD40-2 currently in CSX YN2 paint. All three engines are going to updated with CSX YN3 (or Dark Future as some call it) paint and will be renumbered as I see fit.
Other than that, nothing else to report, will be seeing y'all I guess later in the afternoon after I get off from w*rk and get on home.
Peace, health, and warmth to everyone. Later taters!
A not so late Good Morning to all of you!
Stayed up late (or early), as I had my usual difficulties finding the sleep I need. It is certainly showing signs on me now!
Janie, a strong dark roast coffee for me, please, no, nothing else, if that´s fine with you.
Charlie - I am glad to hear that your mom´s funeral was a worthy farewell. It is so important for those who are left behind.
I started a lengthy and intensive discussion with Carl Arendt, the guru of small layouts, about my little layout idea. He suggested some minor alterations, which make a whole lot of difference. I will incorporate his ideas into my plan, which will be nearing perfection through that. Carl hinted, that the plan will be featured in one of his Small Layout Scrapbook editions early next year! It´d be nice to catch a recognition like that!
It is icy cold outside! Temps are at 22 F and all our roads are covered with ice. Thursday and Friday last week saw temps at 40 + F, so all the snow is gone, but it´ll be back later in the day today.
Have a safe and comfortable day!
Good Morning ! from Tipton IN.

Flo, lots of Coffee!
Well it is cold, 8 degrees outside according to the internet. I am going to leave for work today around 7:30 AM, classes start at 9:00 and it is a 40 minute drive with no traffic or bad weather. Will start the car up around 6:00 AM,give my self some breathing room in case I need to but a charger on it.
Turned down the heat in the garage last night, and it still pretty brisk out here. My desk is a old metal monster from the 50's and takes a while to warm up.
Guess I get back in a normal sleep pattern again now that I am working. I was up at 3:40 this mourning.
Charley I glad the services went off as plan and it was a fitting fair well for your mother.
Jim Sorry to hear about you getting hit. I need to reread your post about the accident after I get more caffeine in me. Did the polices officer determine who was at fault, or do the insurances company's need to fight it out?
Ulrich When are you going to post the new layout plans?
See you all later today, stay warm.
Ken
I hate Rust
Lunchtime in icy cold northern Germany!
Thought, I´d drop in before having a nap - last night saw only 2 hrs of sleep, and that ain´t enough for a man of my size!
Zoe, just a tall glass of OJ, please!
After running some errands, I spent the better part of the morning at my notebook to incorporate the changes that Carl had suggested. Little things only, but they matter a lot!
Here is the now updated version:
Track plan:
And the 2-D view:
The lower drawing is slightly larger in scale.
Ray - have you noticed Ray´s Cookie Co. and Howard´s Groceries? Guess why I did that!
Ken - how are your ideas coming along. That track plan idea from Chris (not Chris with the eight ball) seems to be very close to what you are looking for.
Blessings! I am out for a nap!
Ulrich: Like how that is looking!! at Howard's Groceries and Ray's Cookies
Good Morning from a somewhat snowsqually London ON were we are now clear of the dang things and seeing a high today of 16F...yay...
Yesterday was rotten enough that half of the vendors to the trainshow did not make it in...and the crowd was a little less crowded...I, on the other hand, got some good deals out of there...2 more Arnold S-2's and a couple more Bachmann H16-44's as well as several covered hoppers, a bunch of trucks for the mill sites, as well as some new cars...and some houses to fill out some HO dioramas I'm building up...and all under $70......Deals Galore...heeheehee
I'm also getting the room somewhat ready to rebuild the layout---need to re-wire the room better as well as add better lighting...as it was getting a little dark in there
Anyhow, Flo, I'll have a barrel of coffee and a bunch of breakfast bagels please--need to feed me here--- I'll be at the window booth watching the sunrise...

Good Morning,
Great S.L.O.W. picture!
The drive in this morning was a little hectic. I-90 was untreated and the area by the power plant was taking spray from the 6-8 foot waves coming off the lake coating the road in 3” of ice. It felt like I was driving over large rocks. There was an accident looks like a 4-door car was stuck into a garbage disposal rear bumper first since only the passenger compartment and hood remained undamaged.
Anyway I made it in one piece. The snow in my driveway was higher than the bumper on my truck (F250 with a 3” body lift) due to drifting snow, they project 5-8” additional by noon and 4-6” more coming by this late afternoon-evening.
Currently: Wind NW 31MPH Gusts 41 MPH, 19F, Wind chill feels like Zero F, Winter Storm Warning in effect until Wednesday evening.
London, ON and Finger lakes look out, I plan on sharing all of this snow with you! Heck Robby you might get some of this as well.
Global Warming is officially on hold.

Good cold/snowy morning.
We have about 2-3 inches right now, and I have no idea if we are getting more. Hopefully we don't get what Lee has!!
Almost all of my train show cars have sold. I have three left, and they are at the LHS. I'm glad I made the money back, and have some for Christmas and our wedding anniversary.
Today.........Shovel snow , maybe some layout work, and who knows!!
"Rust, whats not to love?"
Well car started and is warming up as I type.
Ulrich Right now I am trying to figure out how to use the 3D Plan It program. Here I thought the RTS program was a pain to learn. If you know how to use the program, I will send you the file.
Off to work I go!

Good morning All,
44F with the rain holding off for now. Even the weather guessers are unsure what we'll get as we have two lows competing for dominence over our area. I'll have a regular and a corn muffin please Zoe.
Ray - love the shot of the layout. When did you and Ulrich become partners and will the factory feature Petras' recipies ?
Ken - Ryan is the 3rd Planit guru hereabouts. Even did a tutorial on the E-magazine. I have the program but haven't had any greater success than you. I still do my attempts at planning on graph paper since I still have my old drafting board and K&E drafting machine.
Jeff - love those low light shots. Adds drama,
Garry - I am to the point where I can try to clear the floor space to layout a perimeter for the new layout room. I'll enclose it like last time even thought we deported the cat to the neighbors (found it in the basement the day after the fire and it left like a shot). The neighbors fed it while we were in the rental and we agreed they'd formally adopt it. To tell the truth, I like it better this way expecially now that we have two dogs.
My truck driver is about two hours outside of Chicago this morning on his way out to Iowa with the rig to get it repaired. I spoke with him this morning and repeated that later and safe is fine with us. Willy said he'd lost count of the tractor/trailers laid over and cars in fields. We wouldn't have sent him at all except the trailer needs to be done for next season and this is the only time slot we could get.
Lots to do in the shop so I'd best be after it. Hope the rest of you are surviving this crazy weather ok.
CUL, J.R.
Good morning. It's 26° here and sunny. The high will be 49°.Today I'll be removing the high spots from the drywall compound I put down on the layout a couple of days ago. It should be hard enough for that by now. Got my Christmas shopping done yesterday and only spent $112. I still have rolling stock to get rid of. The list can be found here. In a few days I'll be putting up a new list.
mourning {creaking and groaning}. DId too much Saturday and paid for it yesterday and stillahve teh creaks and groanst his AM .
Getting tougher to do stuff. Went grocerys hopping yesterdaya dn unloaded the van and put the groceries away and was EXHAUSTED. Of course high moisture in the air did not help my breathing. ANd i have to do things twice as much or carefully due to my back.
Sir Madog Ray - have you noticed Ray´s Cookie Co. and Howard´s Groceries? Guess why I did that!
Gee, and here you could have had "Galaxy Cookie CO." With the perfect advertising slogan "Our Cookies are Out Of This World!"
Maybe you have room for Galaxy BREAD Company next to Howard's groceries...same slogan "Our Bread is Out Of This World". Dunno.
-well Not sure what we are doing MOH gets some vacation adn personal time today that needs to be taken before the endof the year. WE may go help a friend with somethings {If I am nto too exhausted}.
-Gotta paint teh train board for under the tree...it is 42"x42" as close to 3/4" as I could get {it is 22/32" NOT 3/4"- a gyp if you ask me} and is it HEAVY. Gonna be white for snow. got the table teh tree is to go on mostly cleared off.
-What really burns me up is that about 6 years ago we bought a whole house humidifier adn now Lowes no longer carries teh wicks for them, or the COmpany that builds them no longer makes them. We also bought an Air purifier about 4 years ago, and are lucky if we can find the filters to go with it. WE were about to pay $79-99 for a new humidifier until we though about a smaller one we have and have wicks for and that they were still carrying wicks for so we dug it out to use at least for this winter. The air purifier may have to buy a new one...as it is hepa filters for it cost $39.99 and we only paid $50 for teh purifier to begin with . It's like printers and ink cartridges.
WEll gotta go now to see whate lse is here and call our friends to see what we can do.
Have a great day!
-G .

JR Let's summon Ryan about 3rd planet: .... Cajun Chef Ryan ..... There. Like magic, Ryan will see we are talking about him. Perhaps, he can talk about the tipic. Better yet, perhaps, he'll bring scrumptious goodies to the diner.
Jeff ... Thanks for telling about how you took the picture. Here's a good website on layout photography. http://sites.google.com/site/railphotog/ Bob Boudreau posts in the forum, and that's how I found out about his website. It helped me becuase my photo skils are not good. My photo in Trackside Photos of January MR is a result.
JR ... Glad you will be able to re-build. "The light at the end of the tunnel is an oncoming train". I bet the model railroad bug is biting you. Glad your truck driver is being safe. Do you still have old layout pix before your house fire?
Ulrich ... I like that track plan, and I bet the MR bug is biting you often, too. .
Bama ... Good luck with the loco painting. Let us know how it is going.
Galaxy ... Bummer about the humidfier. I think just about everything has limited production these days.
Lee ... Sounds bad on I-90. Hope you can stay safe and warm.
Todd ... I still wonder about the roof on the MN football stadium. Designers must be like the un-civil engineers who designed our roads.
Robby ... Any new weathered cars?

Well its almost lunch time, so give me a cheeseburger, onion rings, and a sweet tea.
Got a packaged mailed out this morning. I thought the roads would be bad, but not yet. The road crew is actually doing good. BUT.......They keep going by spreading salt. Nothing on the roads!! I understand its to keep things from freezing, but EVERY year they run out of salt. Then they are begging the state for some!!
Garry......Here's one I was working on.
Good Morning All!
Robby,Nice weathering on a beautiful car.I have 4 of those cars 2 in HO and 2 in N.I really like that scheme.
Not much to report from the land of Buckeyes other then the wind chill is 4 to 6 below with a winter weather advisory and I already toss another log on the fire in which I will hunker down by..No modeling yesterday and no great plans for today.I shall have a cup and look over the forum.Have a good 'un!

Mornin' everyone!
Zoe, I'll have...... What? Garry has ordered a double order of oatmeal for me? Ah, No thanks. I used to like oatmeal, but THAT intestinal (bowel) thing kinda grossed me out. maybe in a few days I will be able to look at a bowl of the stuff.... So, I think I will just have a cup of dark roast coffee in a R&GV RR mug please.
Ulrich, how nice to include some new stores in the plan! I do hope Petra is applying to be chief baker!
Hmmm. Galaxy try here or here. both places carry most all of the filters ever made for those things. Most "Big Box" dealers make much more selling you a new unit so they often don't even carry the replacements for the ones they are selling now.... Another reason I avoid those shiesters every chance I get.
Thank you to those who commented on the RR scene from my layout. I have just had to send a bunch more photos to the region for the Civil Certificate. Should know if everything is now in order for it soon.
Best get moving, as I have some outdoor stuff to do before the sn*w arrives this afternoon.
Later!

Ray Seneca Lake, Ontario, and Western R.R. (S.L.O.&W.) in HO
We'll get there sooner or later!
Just dropping in for a mug of hot cocoa - I feel cold. The last few Hours brought back the snow we lost in recent days! Shiverrrrr!
Ken - each CAD program has its own glitches and RTS has its share of those. But there is a learning curve to each one of them. You just have to take your time to explore the features. RTS works as well as all others, once you know how to employ it. It took me some time to learn - as you can see when you look at older plans I posted in the forum
I work only with my version of RTS and I am quite happy with what I can do with it.
Galaxy - Galaxy Bread Co. - not a bad idea. Galaxy bread - a galactic treat for the family!
Ray - for that picture!
Robby - I sincerely think you have to come over to my place, once I have my layout up and running. You need to do the weathering job on my locos and rolling stock ... Great pic again!
Maybe I drop in a little later again!
Larry......Thanks for the comments. I like this scheme also. The problem is....I buy the cars but end up weathering them...and selling them .
Ulrich...........I will have to take you up on that offer, but not in the winter months. The way you talk, I just don't want to see more snow that what I have to deal with here .
Robby - I agree, the time to visit Germany and especially the part I live in, is late spring and summer, but not winter - too cold, too dark, just ugly. The last 4 hours brought us 4" of snow, which is a lot for my neck of the woods, but there is more to come. Not as bad as in Minnesota or Wisconsin these days!
This place is getting dangerously close to page 2. Time to bump it up.
Yaw - I just woke up in time to bump this thread away from the danger zone of page 2!
Yoohoo? Anybody here?
Grumble, mumble - they must have been all commanded to fight the snow outside!
Janie, I´ll have a mug of hot mild, honey and rum, please. I´ll stay here at the RC and have a chat with, as no one else shows up!
Hey Gang!
Flo, may I please have a Roast Beef sandwich medium rare, tender of rings and a .
Well today at work was a odd day. Meet the 3 Phillips bothers that own Ashly Furniture today. Matt Phillips is all so the person that does all the training. Today was pretty disorganized and Matt seemed to drift in and out. It came to light that there father and founder of the company passed away this weekend so I understand.
Few things I was able to pick up is the company values Integrity above all. Sure the reason I was hired was when I told them why I left the VW Dealership. I would not lie to the customer to get the sale!
Ashly Furniture and the the Railroads! Our company start is link with St Louis being a Railway Hub, how funny is that? The founding Phillips started the company by selling damaged freight from the railroads and splitting the selling prices 50 / 50 with the rail line.
Pay Was not explained clearly but, there worst salesperson made $24,800 this year, average pay is $37,800 and there top salesperson is $97,800. I have never been average, I either hate the job (VW) and stink or I am in the top 10% of the company. So I am starting to feel pretty good about this opportunity.
Well, I am tired as heck, not because of work that was easy. Just need to get my sleeping habits back in line. See you all Tuesday!
Working again, Cuda Ken!
Good evening all, just checking in before I start my locomotive painting. Just a RBF for me tonight, my wife cooked apple and herb glazed pork chops, mac and cheese and rice pilaf (yum yum) so I'm a little stuffed. Not a whole lot happening tonight, heading for a possible record-setting low, 17 degrees, which I know isn't a drop in the bucket as compared to some of y'alls temps, but its pretty flipping cold for down here. Got the heater running and keeping the house a comfy 68-72 degrees, so I'm not complaining, although at w*rk today it was a bear! The wind was just insane and made it seem that much worse, but it'll be all right.
Ken, glad that your first day went well, and I'm kinda like you I'm either going to hate a job, or love it and show it by constantly performing in the upper echelons.
Well, I'm off to help the wife clean up after dinner, but then the kitchen table becomes the paint booth on my version of the CSX railroad!
Later taters!
Well I got the high points on the wall joint compound cut down and it looks like angles for the super elevation on the curves is right. Took about ten minutes to vacuum up the mess. Also got the information for my third list of stuff to get rid of together. There's some vehicles in this one. Things like vans, cars, Caterpillar equipment and there's a few freight cars as well. I'll post the link for the list Wednesday.
[ The door opens, and the fridged winter air blows a big jumbled mess into the RC, and up into a stool next to Ulrich]
ugh, Oh, Man, what have I missed?
Sorry I've been out for almost all of this year everyone. Lots of homework and having to winterize my house (including accomidations for my chickens and protecting my Mom's plants) have pretty much left me with very little time.
What happened to the sunny Florida wether? For the past 2 or 3 weeks strait, it has been below freezing all day. The forecast is calling for it to be in the teens tomorrow, I'm not looking foward to that....
No need for the soapbox, I'm done complaining (for now...)
O.K., Let's see now, I got almost no clue what's been going on, so I'll need a few days to figure it all out. Here's what I know so far:
Ken- Congradulations on getting the job THat's some interesting history on Ashley furniture, starting out through selling damaged freight and splitting the profits 50/50 with the railroad (Hmm, a model railroad industry, mabe...)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
From what I understand, the dinner has been a ghost town for most of this week. I don't know. It may be due to the fact that everyone's running for a bunker for when I start drivin (Nope, I ain't got it yet. Every time I try to go and get my lerner's permit, something comes up and we gotta stay home)
O.K., then. Y'all can come out of the bunkers. I ain't drivin (yet). Don't forget, grew up in the country, drivin a little of everything (from tractors to my cousin's mud-boggin truck) so I know how to drive without hitting anything. I just need that lerner's permit to make it legal for me to drive.
On my personal front, besides the homework, I'm going to be teaching myself how to play the gutar, so we'll be having some live gutar entertainment (Do you think that'll bring in more customers, Flo?) I'll take requests, as long as they're eather Country or Western
There was something else, but I can't remember. Oh well. I'll take a gallon of hot choclate, a cheeseburger, and a quarter for the jukebox, Flo. I'll be catching up now.
I'll try not to dissappear off the face of the Earth agian (I hope...)
Good wind-stormy evening to one and all (which over the last few hours isn't many it seems LOL) Janie, double up that order of honey rum for Ulrich, and I'll pay for both. We complain there is nothing on TV, then when we lose the signal (cloud cover too dense to let the satellite signal through) we complain there's no TV That's the situation here tonight and we had to listen to the news on the radio!
Jeff:
There was even an obit in the paper!
Ray: Love the caption for that card! (and the photo too, natch.)
Garry:
John, perhaps you could wing it or we could air out our differances.
Der John ... You were talking about plubing problems and then a place called Sheet Harbor". I was afraid you were reacing for a dirty pun. I though "Don't go there!"
CapeJim: Grand to see you back in. Sorry about the but at least you are able to drive the car (meaning both it and you survived! LOL ) I'll reply to your email as you suggested, when I have the time.
JR:
Der - did the pooper scooper at least wear a mask - like the robbers in the olden days? And to add insult to injury you suspect he's keeping the GST, PST, LST and EST? Ouch.
I heard from Ed today. He's starting over with his layout - has benchwork for a series of modules, and has bought flex track and some switches. When I reply I'll order up another tank car of his Orange juice.
Ulrich: Sorry about the sleep....while you have time in the day, can you catch up then? Kris says that she can't afford to go to bed in the daytime as she then doesn't sleep at night.
Carl hinted, that the plan will be featured in one of his Small Layout Scrapbook editions early next year! It´d be nice to catch a recognition like that!
Ken: That is a much more encouraging start than it seemed 24-48 hours ago!
Here's an interesting sports-related trivium.
The first testicular guard, the "Cup," was used in Hockey in 1874 and the first helmet was used in 1974.That means it only took 100 years for men to realize that their brain is also important.
I found a suitable packing to centre the optic fibre bundle in the signal head - a small length of Q Tip rod. It's inside diameter takes the bundle, and the OS nicely fits into the signal head. And the price is right! I've repainted the damage repair bits, and since NJI paints the entire signal silver, I've blackened the target and hood; and concreted the base! While that paint dries, I'll have a go at drilling out another LED so the bundle will fit in the end. Clipper oil, I've discovered, makes an excellent transparent light-link between the LED casing and the fibres. The individual fibres show as dots in the signal head, the way individual LEDs show in a traffic light. I'd say they mayeven be a mite under-scale as those fibres are really thin! There's too much pressure in the bent fibres to allow the face of the bundle to rest flush with the front of the signal head at the target. It sticks out a bit, but no biggie as the fibres are clear, don't leak light sideways, and so are virtually invisible. Here's the current situation. - That missing finial got to me (eventually) and so I've used a piece of clothing store price tag fixing stuff I've had waiting to become power line insulators or some such. Fills a space - that isn't a light at the top, just shiny wet paint!
Time has once more marched on - I'll say Goodnight all, and God Bless. Prayers for al in need of Healing, Comfort, Prosperity and Peace.
"There are always alternatives, Captain" - Spock.

Flo just a nice hot cup of decaf for me. I'll be sitting by the stove in the back......
Currently 12°F with a wind chill bringing it down to about -2°F outside here in the Finger Lakes Region. This would be great winter camping weather I'd say. Probably about time to put the shorts away for the season.... We are also under a Lake Effect Snow Warning for the next couple of days:
A LAKE EFFECT SNOW WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 4 PM EST WEDNESDAY.
* LOCATIONS... SOUTH SHORE OF LAKE ONTARIO FROM ROCHESTER TO OSWEGO COUNTY. HEAVIEST FROM THE EASTERN SUBURBS OF ROCHESTER EAST TO OSWEGO COUNTY AND INTO NORTHERN ONTARIO COUNTY.
* TIMING... THROUGH WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON.
* ACCUMULATIONS... STORM TOTALS OF 1 TO 2 FEET IN THE MOST PERSISTENT BANDS.
* WINDS... NORTHWEST 15 TO 25 MPH WITH GUSTS TO 35 MPH.
* VISIBILITIES... LESS THAN A QUARTER MILE AT TIMES.
* IMPACTS... PERIODS OF HEAVY SNOW AND BLOWING SNOW WILL PRODUCE VERY DIFFICULT TRAVEL CONDITIONS AT TIMES.
Luckily I am at the Southern end of what the Warning is for and should not get too much of the fluffy white stuff here.
Whats that noise in the front.... What? NERM is learnin' to play a what? A Gutter? Hey NERM! Why don't you take up the Guitar instead? They sound a lot better than Gutters....... Oh! THAT's what you are playing? Must be the accent I guess. I taught Guitar for about 20 years. Taught mostly classical guitar... You know the Segovia stuff. Played THAT and a bit of Spanish Flamingo er Flamenco ...... Gotta get my axe out and practice one of these days!
Handmade Cordorba I bought a few years ago. Mostly it has just sat in the case. Need to check it it out soon and start playin' again.
Finally got all the wiring hooked up for the trackage on Bare Mountain (The site of the quarry). Ran several different trains through each of the routes. No problems in any of the new sections. Only place there were derailments were places visited by the little furry creatures I eliminated earlier this Fall (mice). They chewed a bit of the scenery in a couple spots and left hunks of greenery on the ROW. Found them quickly as they derail the first cars behind the locos every time. Got THAT taken care of and everything appears to be in good shape. I will get the other parts of the layout cleaned up and hope to run some trains during the holidays.
Hope all you Southern Boys enjoy the gorgeous weather you have been having.... Oh and stay warm, OK?
