Morgan, glad to hear!

Looks like a lot of folks are starting to get sick. As for me that bug i thought I had was just being super over tired. I like the weather change though, it feels so good. haven't seen the sun much though, but then that's what heats the air up, so.....

Ken, sounds like a fun time running trains!

Goooooooooooooooooooooooooood Afternoon, cup of coffee please and thank-you.

Banks. We do business with a pair of credit unions, never had any trouble with them. The mortgage (or 30-year rent-to-own program) is with Wells Fargo. It originated with one of the credit unions, they then sold it to Washington Mutual, who then sold it to Wells. I'm not thrilled about THAT... But, we're still here...uh, as long as we send 'em the fixed-rate every month, THAT-is. The other credit union has extended a loan multiple times...it's almost scary how willing they are to give-out bucks. Don't get me wrong, it has gotten us out of a number of jams. Bottom line though, I think they LIKE having us "on the hook."

No RR time today, been w**king on content for THAT Editor. I did manage to order some decals direct from Microscale a day or two ago, so have THAT to look forward to. I might eventually get a repair/replacement part from Intermountain. Several months ago, a grain hopper was knocked off the shelf (by a flying hammer...don't ask). The only damage sustained was the demise of one of their older multi-piece trucks, and the breaking of a B-end ladder. Of course, the busted-off ladder chunk has yet to surface. So, I e-mailed Intermountain about the possibility of obtaining a replacement part. They responded within a day or two...then nothing. A few months later, they asked for more details, so I sent 'em a pic of the damage. Then...nothing. Got another e-mail a day or two ago apologizing for the delay and asking for my address. We'll see what happens next. I suppose I could always put an HO sized Bad Order tag on the car and run it THAT way...have it moving to the RIP track at Beverly or something. I haven't quite wrapped my brain around how to fabricate the missing section, otherwise I'd just go THAT route if the part can't be had. Just watch, after the new piece arrives and is "cut-in," the busted off chunk will surface...

Welp, coffee's down, time to get back at it. Gotta write-up captions and game summary from last night's high school volleyball. Something along the lines of the Clippers skinning the 'Cats (Benton Community Bobcats)... THAT Editor wouldn't let me use "Clippers neuter 'Cats" last year after a massive victory...Whistling Euthanize and 'put down' weren't allowed either...

THANKS to those who commented on the award-winning fluke shot. I've always kinda shrugged it off since it was a fluke. I look at shots where I tried to use skill, experience, etc.; and had 'em not turn out. Then I look at the jump and shoot shot THAT won. We have the long night of picking contest submissions coming up in the next week or two... Now, I'm even less sure what to submit than I was last year (1st time)!!!!

Have a good, SAFE rest of the day, and an even better evening.

 Afternoon folks!

Flo, I take a Toasted Ham and Cheese with ever thing  on it but Mayo, tender of Coal (pun) Slaw and a Diet Dew in a Monon Mug.

Been doing some much need Kitchen Cleaning today. After I got done with the dishes I took the ceiling fan apart and cleaned it in the sink. It was a mess. Then I went after the refrigerator and the range. Used 409 and it worked pretty good, that and some elbow grease, something my wife seems to lack.

Think I am going get some rails down, going to make some run around sidings for the passenger train station.

Not sure if I will make it by for dinner yet.

Hello, everyone. Florida has been hit by a tropical system for the first time this season, today (The rain has started on my neck of the woods now) I'll just take a cheeseburger, fries, and a milkshake.

Don't get too close to me. Everyone in my family has been giving each other the same illness since last weekend.

Not mutch happening on the hobby front. Other than some wethering, I got nothing to do.

I'm hoping that one of the bottles of Children's Chewable Motrin runs out soon. I saw it on the Fine Sacale Modeler forum (sister magazine to MRR) where someone scratch-built a boioler from a medicine bottle for a 1/35 scale diorama, and I'm hoping to replicate that project in HO scale for an abandoned factory I have been working on for the past year or two. (I doubt it'll be finished. I keep adding little details to it as I come across them)

Man, I can't wait for my next trip to the hobby shop....

I’m a member of the Navy Federal Credit Union, love it. I still use a local bank for everyday transactions, however the CU is my savings and if I need a loan I can sit and chat with a real live person that speaks English!

Afternoon everyone!

Zoe I'll just have a RBF to tide me over til dinner.

Ken, THAT is one of the big reasons I like my Credit Union.  They will usually let you just pay the interest on a loan when finances won't allow a person to make full payments.  And they have real living sentient Human Beings to chat with face to face!!!Thumbs Up  Of course they also will extend the laon accordingly.  But I know of several people for whom it has saved their house!  I won't do business with a commercial bank anymore!!!!  Oops!  I see a SoapBox sliding over this way......

Anybody else have trouble getting into the site this morning?  I could get to the Kalmbach main page, but no matter what route I tried it would not let me into the forum...???  After lunch I decided to repair permissions on the G5 Mac and while it was soing its thing, mow some of the lawn (Yep! D@m% thing is high again).  When I just came back in I tried again and it let me on...  I don't know.

I have a long list of "other" stuff I have to get done this afternoon, so...

Later!

Flo, just a dew to go.

Yes dealing with the Banks can be a pain. Getting hold of a live person that can help is all most impossible!

What I hope is I can get a part time job making $200.00 or a little less. Why less you ask? If I make $200.00 or less they don't take anything off my unemployment. Now a real full time job would be great, I am starting to get a little sicking hanging around the house.

Did have a ball this mourning, ran the trains for a few hours. Broke down a 45 car coal train and used the SW 8 to get all the cars back up into the mine. Darn good little switcher, could push 8 coal cars at a time up the 2% grade on a 18 inch turn. All so took some cars off the Hopper Train and added them to this evening local freight to Kingsdown. Took a few empty hoppers to the Grain CO OP as well.

Well, time to do the dishes for Sue.

Good morning All,

60F with sunshine for now and more rain coming tomorrow. Battling roof leaks at the shop - new roof an all but it's flat and there you have it. Oh and the geniuses that put the roof on built a berm all around the perimeter to trap water on the roof and I'm sure THAT helps enormously.

Museum last night putting more N track down another couple of sessions and I should have the two new loops done and ready for testing. I'm doing the track solo as there are enough other jobs that the crew is streched thin and truth be know it's easier this way.

It pains me to hear of people still being laid off and the continuing nonsense with bank loans and the like. I don't see any real improvement happening until the powers that be fix some of the things they've done that have genererated jobs everywhere but here. No Zoe, I don't want the soapbox, no I don't want to violate the parameters we have established here, just wanted to state a fact.

Time to get out in the shop and get on with it. See y'all later, J.R.

Good morning! Coffee and a sweet roll please.

I get to work all day on Mom's house today. At least so far. I hope to get a good amount of stuff done.

Ken- Sorry about the financial woes. Banks anymore aren't there to help the guy/gal who needs it. Kinda like SS disability.

I don't know how much trouble you guys that are on it had getting it, but most that I know who really need it had such a hard time getting it or could not get it at all, while those who don't need it seem to get it no problem. One guy, 24, has partial, partial mind you, loss of sight in one eye. You guessed it. Gets disability. Lucky guy doesn't have to work except for odd jobs and has more money than I do.

You know I just thought of something. I don't get to work on my trainset and it's really getting me down. That's a mental issue correct? I think I'll apply....... Nah, on second thought that would put me in the group that wrongly gives those who actually need it a bad name.

Ya'll have a Great Day now ya hear!!!!

EDIT: Welp, just remembered. I've gotta open the restaurant today at 4. So much for all day on the project. Should only take about an hour but it still blows things to a point. Oh well, I'm used to it.

Good Morning,

It was too damp out last night to work on the backdrops L. Been cold enough out that I had to bring all the house plants back inside for the winter.  Tonight is the Euclid MRR Club work group and Friday is the NMRA Div 5 meeting.  Saturday and Sunday is the train show at the Berea Fairgrounds.  Well I’m on the 20th floor ready to get to work and we are on emergency generator as most of the town is out of power.  Why?  No clue the rain stopped last night.  This winter I’m building two 1:1 scale railroad bridges and three 1:1 scale street lift bridges.  One of the railroad bridges might be interesting; due to the span and the elevation it may be a 2010 model center swing bridge.

 Mourning Madison IN

Flo, I take a English Muffin with cream cheeses and a Diet Dew if you please.

Ray The hard drive has been making racket on and off now for a year. Last night it was real bad, today it seems normal. Some time ago I started backing up files on my seldom used lap top. Plus I have a 4 gig thumb drive as well. When it dies, hard part will be finding the soft ware CD's so I can start the new one up.

North East and Charlie If or when the computer dies it will not be a $ hardship. I all ready have a newer computer that I have never hooked up. My wife's cousin sent to us a few years ago when they got a better one. Far as the Bank they called twice yesterday but hang up before we can get to the phone. I call them back and I get voices mail.

Vincent Thanks for the pictures and Video's. I was shocked and disappointed on how quite the RSD 15 was at idle. I think mine is louder at idle.Big Smile Wish you had gotten a video of it moving from the out side. I still enjoyed the video's and shoots you got of the engine.

See you all for lunch, Ken

Good Evening Diners!

A very nice day here with sun and temps in the low '60s which is above normal. We've had a lot of wind so quite a few trees are bare of leaves including the old elm beside our house.

Not a lot new here, just work and visiting Mum at the hospital every night.  Luckily it is just a mile or so from our house which makes that whole process a lot easier.

Ken, sorry to hear about your banker/house problems. You'd think that banks would relax a little to help over rough patches so that they continue to get a payment and don't wind up with the asset they have as security but unfortunately it doesn't work that way. I work in finance(not a bank!) and banks base their interest rates and loan repayments on their assessment of risk. If they think risk is high up goes the interest rate and down comes the amortization.

If banks ran hospitals they wouldn't give blood tranfusions to anyone who might be at risk of dying as it might be 'wasted' and could otherwise go to someone with only a minor problem. Oops, I think I see that soap box sliding out.

Think I'll go downstairs and run that Hudson for a while, at high speed.

Hey guys

Managed to finish up countersinking the screws on one of my C425's frames.

Ken, It's a tourist Railroad in Austin, TX. $30 gets you a ticket in a PRR P70 coach for a 4 hour train ride. Then you get to spend 2 hours in Burnet, and there is a re-creation of a wild west gunfight. Worth it just for the ALCO, IMO

http://s275.photobucket.com/albums/jj301/PackerPhan66/Austin%202010 (if you're wondering, I'm the one in the black shirt, the brother is in the blue)

Also some videos:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jwfV75UdiJg
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O5bxQGYRrmU

After that I hit a shop over there and picked up 8 40' trailers, a PFE 85' flat, 2 SP 50' PC&F boxes, and a BN FMC covered hopper. All Athearn for $80.

And that was only saturday. Sunday I went to the NHRA finals at the Texas motorplex (in Ennis). Had a blast there too (haven't uploaded pics yet). On the way back, I had breakfast with some friends from when I used to live in San Antonio. Got to do a bit of drive-by railfanning (one of the highways parrallels the UP main for about 25 miles). Saw some intresting RR equipment between here and there. 2 ex-SP GP60s still in red and grey, a CNW AC44CW, a patched ex-UP GP38 (couldn't tell if it was an AC, -2, or straight). Also saw some kind of weird boxcar at a goodyear plant in Louisana. Looked like a 50' thrall bulkhead (like the MDC 60' version) with a roof. Guess it's for rubber.

So yeah, awesome. ;D ;D

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

Gooooooooood evening diners!

Sorry I haven't been around for a while. I was away this past weekend, but I came home to a new computer, so hopefully, I'll be here everyday!

Last week was the college fair. Very overwhelming. Here's the colleges that I like:
-Northeastern
-College of New Jersey
-Catholic
-Clarkson
-Lehigh
-Lafayette
-Vermont

I'm also looking at New Haven, Princeton, and Fairfield. New Haven will probably be my "easy school" (even though I like it anyway so far), and Princeton will be my long shot, just for a gauge. Fairfield wasn't there, but I have a lot of family that went there and liked it.
My cousins live in Connecticut, so we'll probably make a trip up there and check out New Haven and Fairfield. My mom went to TCNJ, and her homecoming is this Saturday, so I'll be looking while I'm there. Still got over a year, but it's getting time to get serious...

On a MRRing related note, the PL42 is coming along relatively well. I messed up several of the tri-color stripes, and there are no extras, so I'll have to get another decal set before they are discontinued at the end of October. The left side and both ends are almost complete, but the right side hasn't even been started. I'll do as much as I can until I get the second set.
Here is what it looks like as of last night (I've added some more white striping since then):

Well, I've gotta go, but hopefully I'll make it back in here later tonight. If not, then I'll talk to you guys tomorrow!

Hey guys, nothing new from me, just a diet dew. Thanks.

Been working on a big English 3 research paper, and is my one teacher a real witch. Hate to talk bad about people, but she is a real work of art. We had to do 20 quotes or something for our paper and that took me the whole period to finish up. Nice thing was I was smart and brought my flash drive with some music and some ear buds. Smarter than a friend of mine who got onto Facebook and got busted right off the bat. Embarrassed Me, I didn't do nothing, just sit back and watch the show. He's now got a bad rap going with the English teachers. The one guy is cool, but the woman is something else. Better get going, I think Flo's got her frying pan.

If you can read this... thank a teacher. If you are reading this in english... thank a veteran

Evenin' folks!

Flo, just a decaf for me.  I'll go relax in the back booth for a while.

Ken....  I would see about getting THAT hard drive backed up pronto.  Hate to see you lose everything on it.  At least THAT way you would have the info for the next one, even if you can't get it right now.

It has been a nice Fall day here in the Finger Lakes.  This morning the high was supposed to reach 72°F.  It did, and kept on going all the way up to 77°F.  I picked a mess of green beans from the garden and a huge head of cauliflower! Gave a large bag of Broccoli to one of the neighbors along with a couple green peppers.  I will freeze the cauliflower sometime in the next couple of days as I already have half a head in the fridge and 2 more growing on the garden.......

Did get down to the trains for a while.  I glued the plywood into the frame:

and tonight put a coat of Urethane Varnish on the frame itself.

Tomorrow I will go over it with some 000 steel wool and give it a final coat of varnish.

Hope you all are having a great day!

 Flo, bucket of Beer please.

Pretty much down in the dumps today, the reality of the new house payment is really starting to sink in. There is no hobby or home improvement budget left.  Good chances I am going to have to drop cable in a few weeks, so if you don't see me at the dinner you will know why.

All so sounds like the Computer Hard Drive is Dying. Guess it has a right, when I built this thing Pentium 2.4 was the fastest possessor you could buy. Hard drive is screaming like a cat being choked when it first starts up.

I hate to hear that, Ken. You have a big house payment comming up, and your computer has both feet in the grave.

I'll be pullin for you, and the dinner will stay open for you, friend.  (Flo, get ready for some overtime)

Vincent Sure looking forward to see a working RSD 15! Big Smile I would not thought any where still in services. But, whit there still being working BL 2 on the East Coast (Maryland something) why not a RSD 15. For now my Blue Line RSD 15 is the second main engine on my A line. Great slow speed with a Digitrax N scale decoder with BMF and pulls pretty darn good as well.

Best sounding Diesel I have, other ones get on my nerves.

Ray, thanks! I'm not quite sure who took them, nobody ever told us. I actually found them browsing around on the facebook page a few weeks ago. Hey, the rugby pitch is where I get my violence out; some of my best practices and games have been when I had a chip on my shoulde ror was really ticked about something in my life. That framing looks really nice.

Morgan, that sucks about the flu man.

Robby, glad to hear the show is looking up. And I agree they're neat shots haha.

Sam, thanks man! Those things absolutely SUCK at protecting one's head though (I should know: one practice I knocked skulls with the same kid twice; first time I saw flashes of blue and orange). its main function is to keep one's ears from getting all cauliflowered up or ripped off (yes that happens, although it's RARE; it only happened to one kid last year and he was a back, so idk how in the world it happened). Hope you get called from the extras board!

Vincent, I love Texas man, we lived there for three months when I was 4 yrs old. I'm hoping to either live in Greenville, SC, or Texas after I graduate college in at least 7 years.

Well, that Packers game was a doozie. the idgits kicked to DEVIN HESTER and paid for it. if we didn't do that I'd have put money on our defense holding them to a field goal or forcing a punt. And then that 15 yard penalty Zombo got that negated the int and gave the ball back to the bears...if he had moved his helmet over like 6 inches that's a clean hit and it's Packers ball. Oh well, we'll see them in Lambeau later this year.

Hey guys

Got back from Texas late last night. Got to go to ride a train pulled by an RSD15, and even got to go inside the old ALCO. I have some pics and videos of the Alco and the train, haven't uploaded them yet. Also went to see the NHRA in Ennis. I had a blast while over there. I managed to see a bit of fallen flag stuf out there, couldn't get a picture in time for most of it. However a certaint ex CNW AC44CW managed to become a camera hog (the train ride stopped in a siding and the car I was in was right next to the ex-cnw GE for a good 4 or 5 minutes)

I did manage to hit a hobby shop while there. Picked up 2 athearn RTR PC&F 50' boxes in SP, a BN FMC covered hopper, 8 athearn trailers and a PFE TOFC car.

Galaxy and Barry, Happy belated birthdays

Garry, I like the WPF photo as well!

I'll be at the RC trying to catch up

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

Good aftrernoon friends!

Galaxy- We'll be praying for you.  Hopefully your back will be better in a "jiffy"!

Jeff- All this talk about faces for stuff, reminded me that I have been told numerous occasions that I have a face for radio and a voice for TV!

Packers- Awesome Rugby Shots!  Who is THAT madman wearing the helmet and go-tee?

Chris- Were you successful in evading the onslaught of muscle for THAT excellent action shot?

BTW- mention of painting gets me in a foul mood...  I prefer wall paper...  No matter HOW hard I try, with ANY type of brush, I wind up with "stroke" marks... maybe it's due to my perfectionism coming through and I try one too many strokes?  Not sure, but wall paper is able to be pulled back and reseated if not in just the right spot!

Just stopping in for a quick visit, as I have to be at work at 2:30pm.  I have my final check-ride today, for the CSX portion.  Once I get back from THAT, I have to switch out a "training" train.  Supposedly the Prince William County Police department is sending over a crew of K-9 officers as well as other elements of the force to do some exercises on the equipment.  I may or may not have to stick around to remove the equipment once they are finished, we shall see!  Today is my second day on the Engineers Extra Board, with no work yesterday...

Please wish me luck!  I am whole-heartedly looking forward to getting my Class I Locomotive Engineer Certificate!

Well, I must be going to get ready for aformentioned tour of duty!  Y'all have a great day!  I'll be back later to fill you in on all the details of the days going's-on's!

Sam

May He bless you, guide you, and keep you safe on your journey through life!

 Hello Madison IN

Flo, just a Dew for me.

J R that motto sure sound like my life here of late. I would have never thought the Mill Work would not fit! I am going to tack in the Mill Work and give it a good look and see how bad it does look. Good chances I am going to say the heck with it and leave it that way.

Far as the paint, I did hit the area of the cabinet I did paint with a 220 on a sanding block. Some of the brush mark's could have been left overs from when my wife painted it. I did not go out of my way to make it slick, it is in a area you really don't see.

Th highly visible area's I am going to use my DA, first with 120 grit then 320. That way there no old brush marks to show through.
