Mornin' everyone!

Zoe I'll have a breakfast bagel this morning to go along with the dark raost coffee in a FGLK mug.  Please and thank you!

Looks to be a nice day here in the Finger Lakes.  Currently 62°F with a high around 65° later.  Lots of sunny skies and light winds.  Good day for the Scholarship Dinner.

I am pretty much done with all the stuff I needed to do for the event except I need to make some changes in the Benediction.  I got "tagged" to do the Benediction tonight......  Oh well, I always did like to get the last word...Whistling

Still waiting for the packages to arrive.  Have to start packing all the stuff I need to bring with me tonight.

Catch you all later!

[edit]  Hey!  Looks like lunch is on me.  Go ahead, order up!

Galaxy ... Sorry all of that is happening to you. The heart condition is a matter for great concern. I hope you have a very good hopsital and good doctors. ... Regarding those who scam the system, they dulute limted funding that is definately needed by those who have real problems such as you and Jeff. Stealing from the disabled is a terrible crime in my opinion.

The chapel car will be parked with the diner this weekend. Prayers for Jeff, Galaxy, Ulrich, Ulrich's mother, Rob's MIL, Robby's wife, and others.

Lee .. I saw the video you posted. Close call for that railfan!

John ... I recall seeing the A.V. E. trains at the Madrid station. Neat!

Keith .. It looks like a football play diagram on the layout.

Inch ... Nice layout!

I posted on teh thread about the Walthers grain elevator kit if you are interesed. Dr. Wayne has some great photos there.

  THAT's what I was thinking! Smile,Wink, & Grin

Goooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooood Mornin'

Welp, "should" be getting Tori out of the truck hospital later today, with a school board meeting tonight. Loving Wife has agreed to chauffer me to it if necessary. Now THAT's love! Not sure if she would sit-in on the meeting...or just sit in the car and fiddle with her laptop however.

On the "plus side," this would've been a "slow" week for THAT anyway... I'll still end up with a larger than usual paycheck on Friday. But...a big chunk of THAT is already spoken for.Disapprove

In other craptastic news... Loving Wife stuck her compact digital camera in her "my whole life is in this bag" bag one time too many. Now it permanantly shows what looks like an ink blot test. I think the LCD panel cracked. I'm sure it would cost far more to repair than to replace...Disapprove Annnnnnnnnnnnnnnnd in the "how can we annoy Chris even more this week?" department, my iTunes now seems to have some catastrophic error. It won't even stay open long enough to run any of it's diagnostic stuff.Banged Head Fortunately, all files are backed up via Carbonite. The question is, IF I have to remove/reinstall...how do I get the music files into the "new" program? Angry

Best wishes to all in need...real need. My trials and tribulations this week are nothing compared to what some of you are going through...believe me, I realize that!

Have a good-un,

Open faced roast beef sandwich please and a glass of water thanks. 4.., 32..., left..., hut..., hut..., HIKE! Oh, I thought someone said we were playing football.

Well, I've done just adout all I wan....er, can do outside for today. Still need to change oil in the truck and find out where the brake fluids going and a few other things. No, not the rear of the master cyl leak, already checked. I lose out of the rear reservoir, front brakes, but no leaks, and the boots on the calipers don't seem to have any fluid. They probably do though. But you'd think with the amount of fluid I've replaced, which is about 3 reservoirs since about 1st part of Dec, there'd be SOMETHING dripping SOMEWHERE. But, I don't want to get mechanics nails today, I've gotta wait on tables tonight. Yucky view for the customers.

I suppose I should do some laundry for the wife and me. Problem is the sewage pump is acting up and you have to be around when the washer pumps out to maybe trip the switch so the pump runs. Needs a new switch as this one is a bit sticky after 17 years.(yet another project I have yet to do) That means I have to stay in the basement. Of course the trainroom is right next to the laundry/mechanical room so I guess I might as well do some stuff to the layout (sigh). Oh well, the difficult things I do to keep peace in the house and help out the wife. You young kids should take heed to these little lessons.

Today, I euthanized our beloved old mare, Sandy. She would have turned 26 in 7 days. Not that old for a horse, but very old for her particular bloodlines. She was the smoothest ride of any horse Barbara ever had. She was also the only horse on our farm who could open "flip & slide" locks on stall doors and would let other horses out of the barn. (we kept her fearless daughter, Twister, also very smart) Rest in Peace, dear old friend.

Beachy.. you be careful with those cats.  I just lost a cat 2 days ago,  one of my two fav's...  its been hard.  Darn coyote got her.  Its spring time and them mother's of all kinds have litters to feed.  Wow.. I should have known better.

Now as for the rest of you.. concerning my football plans.  The guy asked simple question.. and I answered with just a 'fine tune' of his layout.  I can't put it into words.. but if I had to..~  A sleepy hallow look.  Take any Oil Painting.. and there are always that classic.. tree's all bent over the path.. perfect shade.  Some nice glen.. some rustic whatever.. I'm done here.. hmmp~ lol.

Good Afternoon,

Vanilla milkshake and a couple of chili dogs please.

Keith - Are those our sight lines or the itty bitty inhabitants of inchs' worlds' sight lines?

Todd - power brake reservoir ? That can take a lot of fluid before it ceases w..king. Now that you've found the 3 book tome, where do i source the modified nanites to actually carry out the diagnostics and repairs? And where do I source a particle beam accelerator to solder those little tiny wires back together? This iNvisible stuff isn't all it's cracked up to be I'll tell ya. J.R.

Rest in Peace, dear old friend.

Rob

Rob, our condolences to you and your wife.

Darn, I hate days like this.    Such a sad and lonely feeling losing good old companions both two footed and four footed.

I am sure Sandy is most happy with the wonderful home you have provided for her and her young-uns.

Cheers good friend.

 Good afternoon.....

Hey TODD, I forgot to ask you. When is Missy's party?? Rerun wanted to know...

He's been trying to w**k on a birthday card for her...but he's having a hard time with the crayons.

KEITH: Haven't you learned, no good deed ever goes unpunished?? Mischief Smile,Wink, & Grin

On a more serious note, sorry to hear about your cat. A coyote? Yikes.

ROB: Sorry to hear about Sandy...I know you've been preparing for this day, but I know that didn't make it any easier.

One bright spot on the day...iTunes is w**king just fine now. Confused Soooooooo while I splash some paint around in the RR room (just don't feel like writing an article at the moment), I'll have "Radio Lucky" on, cranking out the tunes I listened to "back in the day."

Afternoon folks!

Zoe just a chocolate milkshake for me.  Just a little something to tide me over to the dinner and a nice big hunk of Prime Rib!!!  Yeah, going out amongst them tonight.  Really looking forward to meeting and hearing Arun Gandhi.  Certainly a once in a lifetime thing!

Rob......................  My heart goes out to you!  I know that must have been a terribly difficult thing to do.  She was certainly a beautiful horse!  I know you can rest knowing you did the right thing for her!  My prayers to you!

Kieth, I seem to remember THAT play from back in high school....  Quarterback sneak isn't it?  Oh now I remember it's the Hale Mary play where everybody runs down field and you throw the ball real hard and then say a prayer.......???  Huh?  THAT wasn't what it was???  Well, what was the question then? Huh?  (Dang hearing aids - never seem to w*rk right!)

Time to start packing the car!

Good afternoon friends!

Galaxy & Jeff - Sorry to hear about your ailments.  I have put you on my prayer list... I can only hope and pray that He hears and helps!

Sorry I have not been on as of late.  I got fired from Transit a week ago after being put Out Of Service pending an investigation... I got caught between two instructors, one said we could do something, another without a CLUE as to what was going on stepped in and said NO YOU CAN'T, and the first instructor then covered his butt instead of backing us up...

But, there is good news within this problem!  The Lord has provided me and my fellow classmate, we both got canned, with a new job with the Virginia Railway Express (or VRE for short)!!!  We are hired on as conductors to start, while they attempt to get our records from Transit.  They said that they hope to get us promoted to Engineer within a year!!!  YEAH!!!

The only down side to this is that I will have to move to Virginia... or just find an apartment for me to crash in during the week and come home to my wife on the weekends!  We shall see... the VRE is paying for my lodging for the next 4 - 5 weeks while I am in training!

Well, I have to get running, my car should be finished at the shop: Front Brakes (Rotors and pads), brake fluid flush, transmission fluid flush, new headlight for drivers side, and labor... All told will cost me between 500 - 600 bucks, DRAT...

Sam

May He bless you, guide you, and keep you safe on your journey through life!

Ray,  you are the proven craftsman, and layout builder.  I would love to hear some insight as to how you.. or anyone else should approach the 'setting'.  I have seen your pics a thousand times, I know your layout... and we have discussed some of those 'little touches' you do as an artist.  I would love to hear some ideas from you and advice.

Aaaaaaaah. Laundry. Tough job but somebodies gotta do it. I did get part of my bridge assembled, my piece applied to extend the upper level, some plaster spread, until I ran out, for the uptown road in Gold Creek aaaand......., I forgot.

Rob- My condolences. What you did was for her best. I'm sure she knows it now.

Chris- I have no idea but i assume it will be after 5 pm our time. I will be working so I hope they save me some ice cream and beef or chicken flavored cake. On second thought, I think I'll pass on the cake. Luckily, Missy just left the room to go snooze on something softer when I brought up the picture of Reruns preparations. The surprise is still intact.

Keith- My sorrow extends to you also on the loss of your cat.

J.R.- You got me. It's a slow leak, but you'd figure that even though the Master cyl doesn't hold a whole lot, there'd still be enough to atract dirt. And I's sorry, but you're on your own trying to read the darn manuals. I was lucky to even see the books. Maybe Der can whip something up.

Just dawned on me. Did Barry say he had something other than an ALCO?

Lee, had a friend in the TAMR send me the link to that vid when it was on the news website, that's one lucky son of a gun. John, thanks. I'll drop by Lowes when I finally get my paychecks etc straightened out and get some. Sam, great news right there. hey, you'll like the South man ;) Rob, ouch, putting an animal down is never fun but remember, it's to keep them out of misery. we had to do that to our dog Comet. he could barely walk and you could tell he was ready to die, b/c he'd sometimes just stare at the neighbor's backyard, which looks like a woods. well, not much from me. finally a week is going by quickly. hopefully next week will too,t hen exams, then FREEDOM!!!!!!

Rob........I'm also sorry about your horse.  Its always a tough thing to do.  I had to put a dog down years ago, and it was VERY hard.

I made it to the LHS and bought a Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant.  I have to finish it up tomorrow.  I'm finally getting the town to look half decent.

Afternoon, Zoe, I'll have a RBF, please. Thanks!

We'll see if Firefox will behave better than last night. Had almost caught up, and it crashed out with three tabs open. Banged Head

Jeff, the van's looking good, and I'll second the comment about it'll look like the old paddy wagons with your lightbar on top. Thumbs Up And I'd agree that maybe you could be on the FD board or be a trainer of some kind for your local VFD; they might as well make use of all your experience, right? Oh, I'd say I hope Angel that you prove your doctor WAY too short on his estimate of your maximum age. Yeah!!

Chris, good to hear your CU's on top of THAT debit card thing. When I had a problem with mine (back with a bank) being possibly compromised, they had me close that card and issued me one with a new number. Whatever fixes things. Sorry to hear about your repairs on the vehicle. Sad Thanks for the tips in your email.

On that plastic sub-topic, I do use my d-card online, but only a limited number of places (and I always check for the https and the locked icon in my browser. Yessiree, only safe internet practices for me. Whistling Of course, if some thief tried to access my checking account, there wouldn't usually be much to spare in there anyway, so I guess they'd move on to look for a higher-roller than me. Wink

Ulrich, Good to hear about your interview this morning - probably helped that you have a good attitude, knew/know who you are, and are ready to go after it. That puts you ahead of the other guys Keith, Jeff and others commented about, who 'sorta/maybe/kinda' want to w**k. You go for it, friend. Hope you get a good word back before long!

Rob - glad to see that some people who know lots more about vehicles than I do, answered your cry for help on the ATV. You would not want to follow most of my advice beyond "Is the gas tank filled?" Whistling How's your wandering cow doing?

Sawyer, as you said, the speech is over, so not to fret over that anymore. All you could do at this point, would be to practice some in front of a friend or two, so your nervousness doesn't as likely blank your mind next time. Sorry to hear about your losing Sandy - I remember hearing about her for a long while, it seems. AngelAngel

I was thinking of my own 'speech moment' in my junior year of high school...I was at a military academy ('nuther story there, but no, I wasn't that ornery!) and you had to give a speech in front of the whole school (about 300-360 cadets, plus the instructors) once in the year. I was a junior and the other two giving their speeches with me that day were seniors. They get up, speak from the podium, get done and sit back down. My turn comes, I get up, give the speech (did okay, but not outstanding or anything), and sit back down. AFTERWARD, somebody tells me that the seniors get to give their speeches from behind the podium, but juniors were supposed to give theirs standing out beside the podium (no hiding, or something like that). However, since I had given my speech for that year, I didn't have to the following year. Lucked out! Whistling

Lee, I saw that video - guy was verrrryy lucky on that one! Shock

Well, our MRR club is all moved out of the old location now. We got the layout sections moved the tail end of last week/start of this week, and this past Monday got the cabinets put in in the room where we'll have them there. The club secretary/treasurer/LHS owner turned in the keys today to the former landlord and has notified the electric company to remove us from the electric bill on that old location. Next, putting up wallboard on the wall studs, and then start laying out the layout sections for the new (and slightly modified) design. No rent and no utilities, just whatever expense to put ducting from the A/C over to the layout room.

I'll be starting some kitbashing of shells and (chassis's/chasses?) from my Athearn RDC's, plus putting some Ernst regearing kits in two more (have one with one in it, plus another Athearn that came with their gearing - a later version of the Athearn RDC's). Harder part will be getting neat and straight cuts of the shells so I can glue them together without painfully obvious join lines. Supposed to bring the shells to the club meeting Monday night for the LHS owner/member to take a look at how the best way to cut them neatly would be. Yeah, I know, would've been cheaper to buy the P1K versions when they were on sale, but 1) I didn't have the funds at the time, and 2) I just LOVE a challenger - plus 3) I'm able to spread out the expense better this way. Will post some pics as I get going (or maybe start a topic if I can sneak it by the "I know better than you how you REALLY should've done that" RC's in the big forum...)Smile,Wink, & Grin

Oh, Chris - on your iTunes question (assuming it's similar in Windows as on my Mac), once you get iTunes re-installed, drag the folder(s) with the albums (and songs in them) onto the iTunes icon on your desktop, and you should get all of your tunes imported into iTunes. Now, your playlists, you may have to set them up again. Also, go here and check the discussions for possibly 'iTunes crash' and 'restoring playlists' (but usually you need to export a file with the playlists, which I would guess you hadn't done  - I hadn't the first time I had a glitch like that). Hope that helps, and email me if you have more questions or need help finding what you need on the iTunes support pages.[edit] Oops Good to hear you got things going again!

Sam, congrats on the new job (and too bad to hear THAT instructor wouldn't tell the full truth...). Hope you get that Engineer position within the year. And if you move, remember to check out how the layout room basement is arranged...Thumbs Up

...and Missy:

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!

(It's not too early now, is it?)

About time for me to head home from the office, wanted to say late to type with a bigger keyboard. May be back in for some ice cream at the big Happy B-Day party a little later.Big Smile

Blessings and prayers,

Good evening

Zoe ... some milk bones for Missy, Chris's birthday dog, please. Also, perhaps, Ray could spare his bone from the prime rib for missy.

WOW! .. Look at that chow hound ,Ray, chomping down that prime rib !!!! Amazing!

Rob ... That's really sad about "Sandy".

Keith .. Sad, too, about your cat.

Sawyer ... Was your loss of comet, the dog, recent? Sorry about that too.

Sam .. VRE ! ... Great! .. Congrats! ... I spent some time in Manasses, VA several years ago. It's on the VRE. There was a neat coffee shop in the old passenger depot at the time. I wonder if it's still in business. He had photos of trains from all over, and I gave him a picture I took of an Alaska RR train. I'm sure he does not recall meeting me, and I forgot his name, too. I like the area around Manasses.

Todd ... Good to hear about the progress with the bridge in Toddland

Jim ... I'm glad to hear about the work on teh RDC's. I like working with older models just for fun, too.

On the layout, I just completed installing plywood for my loop on the upper level. I thought I'd never see the day. Now, it's time for more tracklaying.

.Happy Model Railroading

Good evening Diners: Day started with MIL's sink stopper quitting. The end of the actuator arm inside the drain had rusted completely through. Was able to hammer (it wasn't an electrical problem see! LOL)  the rod, which is that arm, further through the plastic ball which is the waterproof seal-***-fulcrum for the system. Took a surprising length of rod sticking out the "broken" side to have enough to work the stopper, but there was enough left over for the whole thing to go back together again! Then just before lunch our Internet went down.  Turned out to be something to do with the username and password settings in our router spontaneously deciding to not play anymore. Took only 4 phone calls, two each to the ISP and the router's tech support to sort it out, but an hour and a quarter when I could have been working outside before it started to rain. The rain held off until after dark, as it happened, so I did get more done than I had expected.

Mike:

(By Me) ...Um, what's the large yellow drum thingy?
(By you) You mean in this pic,
....No Mike, this one

 back on page 28.

What is that between the two picnic tables?  Maybe it's covering the "missing" fire pit Clown. I think Keith may be onto something about the lines-of-sight, and Barry was talking about the "rounded trees" (the two on the river bank,) that I think are hard to see through. I agree the tent is spot on for the era.Thumbs Up

Lee:

Last night I used the Micro-Mark two part self vulcanizing mold making rubber to create copies of some scrap gondola loads.
...Do you think that mold making rubber would work for a thin flat mold? I have to make about 3 dozen station platform awning supports, and was thinking of pressing (or laying) the part in a shallow layer of mold material until it sets up. I've tried this with melted down fishing lure plastic, and casting with epoxy resin. The results are not everything for which I was hoping - the small quantities of resin result in an indifferent hardness - I guess due to the mix not being exactly 50/50. Plaster might do the trick, but the parts would be very fragile. (Anyone have some spare carbon nano tubes? Smile,Wink, & Grin) I hear you on the mold release, and will bear that in mind. For the fish lure plastic molds I wiped the part with a rag that had Goo-Gone on it - it worked fine, but the lure plastic is very flexible.

Barry: Those scales are going to be an interesting detail!Thumbs Up

Ulrich: Glad the interview went well. As you say, government wheels turn slowly....

Chris:

with a school board meeting tonight.
There's one in Halifax tonight too. Closed door, with one item being a Principal (over 30 years teaching) who intervened to stop a bullying incident. A complaint lead to his being suspended, and his fate will be decided tonight. The community is all behind him, but what does that matter these days, Political Correctness" is everything, and parents of bullies rule! Thumbs Down

Rob: Sorry to hear about Sandy - one smart horse, you'll miss her - our condolences. I think you mentioned about her letting the other horses out...did she lead them back in again as well?

Keith:

I just lost a cat 2 days ago,  one of my two fav's...  its been hard.  Darn coyote got her.
...there are now said to be NO cats anymore on Sober Island. There is a pack of between 5-7 coyotes that has been seen. We've only seen individuals down our road. I have taken to carrying a hefty stick (Garden fork handle) on my walks. Sorry for your loss.

Sam: We were wondering if perhaps something like a layoff had happened, since you hadn't been in a while. This is worse by far - but as you say, the Lord provided. So you know the lodging-or-move thing is in His hands too! Where in Virginia? I'm assuming house prices vary in relation to distance from Washington?

Todd:

Maybe Der can whip something up.
..Nah, Sawyer be "Da Man"! Mischief

CapeJim:

Oh, I'd say I hope that you prove your doctor WAY too short on his estimate of your maximum age.
that for Jeff and galaxy both!

Garry: Good to hear about the progress on the layout - pics?

That time once more, so I'll wrap this up and see if Mike's pics that I copied and pasted into this WORD doc from the webpage will survive the transfer to the forum - or if Ihave to go and Photobucket them first. Answer = Photobucket, but the size is larger than the "original" on Page 28, and blows out the edges of the page! I've had to reduce it. What's with that.Banged Head

Good Evening!

Rob, sorry to hear about Sandy. I'm sure she had great life with you to look after her.

Been following the discussion on debit cards and I'm a little puzzled regarding their use on-line. In Canada a debit card can only used with a PIN so you can't use one on-line. Debit cards here are used at ATM's or for purchases at a store instead of cash. In fact cheques aren't  accepted at most stores.  For on-line purchases you must use a credit card. Do you use a credit card as a debit card?

Busy days and evenings here what with work and visiting garden centres.

Ulrich, good luck with the job!

Galaxy, sorry to hear about all your health problems, but at least it seems like you are getting good health care and you know we are all pulling for you here.

It's dark out so I guess that means it is time for bed once again.

Hi Chloe, just a go cup of hot cocoa, please 'n' thankyou!

GMTRacing

Not to rain on your parade, but Trainworldonline still has some RDC's from P1K offered for 25.00.  J.R.

http://trainworldonline.com/catalog/index.php?sub_subsection_id=703

Well, I'm almost tempted there, JR... But they only seem to have the RDC-3 units, which would mean I'd have to try making the Athearn RDC-1's into the same/corresponding length (and the Athearn shells don't lend themselves well to successfully doing that). I'd have to go with the C&NW ones, as the BMTA (?) ones' description says they have purple headers (eyewww...). I do have about 3 RDC-1's (2 powered, 1 dummy) and 5 RDC-3's (4 powered, 1 dummy) and a RDC-3 shell, plus two Ernst gearing kits on hand. So I wouldn't have to spend much at all except maybe one or two Ernst gearing kits ($18-20 each), to wind up with 4-6 final RDC's to run (2 or 3 two-unit trains, or a 1, a 2 and a 3-unit train each). I might get one RDC-3 just to look or as a starting point to pattern after...Sigh Where was TrainWorld when I had the money for some? Banged Head Nah, I'll just take my time and get them in the 'mostly good enough' range once finished (I hope, anyway...)

Keith, my apologies for missing that you had lost your cat recently, and my condolences for your & Jeanne's loss. How long had you had her?

DerJohn - is it legal to take a shot at those coyotes there, or is it forbidden 'in-town'? Guess I wasn't sure how big Sober Island's population is.  If I lived there, I'd be concerned about the coyotes getting used to humans and going after a child. Shock I've heard of something like that happening in some more rural areas of the U.S.

Well, time for me to get to bed - got the 'w' thing in the morning, so Dick and the rest of you retired Diners (in the U.S., anyway) can continue to get your Soc. (in)Security checks... Wink

Prayers for comfort and healing, for new jobs and any unspoken needs.

Blessings,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

 Good evening...

SAM: Sorry to hear of the shaft-job you got, I'm hoping there is a special place in hell for the bastage who threw you under the train.  For us midwesterners...what is "Virginia Rail Express?" Sounds like maybe a commuter operation??? For what it's worth, I admire your faith and optimism...I could use some of both right about now. Also, I think the Iowa Chicago and Eastern (ICE) has been hiring engineers, if you'd wanna move to Iowa and run ex-Milwaukee/ex-Soo/ex-CP rails along the Mississippi River...

TODD: Sorry Rerun missed the party, he was really hoping to get over to Illinoissssssssssss for it. Unfortunately, I'm still truck-less, and Loving Wife ended up taking me to the school board meeting; thus leaving an unhappy Rerun here. I'm wondering if he didn't try to phone her or "hook up" online with her...WhistlingI know I heard him muttering something under his breath about shoes and leaving somebody a "little surprise"...

CN CHARLIE: Yup, the debit w**ks as a credit card. But what boggles my addled mind, is how they managed to make and complete transactions since they require the 3-digit "security code" found on the back. Somebody hacked into something...and I'll likely never know who or how.

JIM:  I don't think the reprobates care much about the balance on the account, as evidenced by the dumbassss who tried to buy an airline ticket with my card! Laugh Hopefully, THAT little error in judgement will be key to catching him.

The truck repair saga continues. Around 4 p.m., the "service coordinator" assigned to my truck calls me up. Good news: the problem wasn't what they thought it was. Bad news: they have no idea what the problem is... Banged Head Banged Head She lost power and started making a sound like a deck of cards being shuffled or a card in the spokes of a bike leading me to think a belt had come loose and was flapping. The timing belt is A-OK...the serpentine belt is good too. When she died, I tried to re-start her, and while the starter was cranking, nothing was happening...it was as-if it was disconnected from something. Wrench turners say they get compression, but air is leaking into the exhaust Confused The "coordinator" threw out ideas like a bent or burnt valve. Whatever it is...I'm pretty sure it's been going on for about a year or more as her pep has been lacking, and she has trouble making steep or long hills. I'm also pretty sure it'll be even more expensive than what we've got for funds. With almost 209,000 miles, the guy offered what I hope is a "worst case scenario" of a used engine transplant.Shock

We are hoping it doesn't come to THAT...

JOHN: You nailed it Pal...Political In-Correctness runs rampant...and has ruined our society. I'm not one for offending people for the heck of it...but it really has gotten out of hand as to WHAT you can say, who you can say it to, and even HOW it can be said!  What ever happened to common sense??? What ever happened to common decency??? Why is morality...so seemingly out-dated?

This disgusted fellow is going to call it a night... May we ALL have a helluvalot better tomorrow!

Good evening, nothing for me thanks I'm fixin to hit the hay.

Tomorrow I plan on taking a picture, or pitcher depending on where you're from, of the trestle area so far. I still have a bit to do, but, I figure why not.

DerJohn- We'll see if Mike confirms, but if what you are referring to is what I think you are, the round barrel looking thing is one of them old travel trailers. The old little sorta round ones that people like me and Jim can't stand up in well.

Sam- Uh.... Congratulations.......I think. I know all too well the type of people your instructor who didn't fess up. Sorry about that, but glad for the new job. How's the report from Joyzee gonna affect the engineer part?

CNCharlie- My debit card was as you say yours is. However several years ago, the cards got backed by VISA and now can be used as a debit or credit card. If I use it as a debit, I must enter my PIN. If I use it as a credit I do not. The money is drawn from my account when it is run through instead of billed to me monthly. Also no interest of course. Now, what the big difference is, I have not a clue.

Chris- You haven't missed the party yet, it's tomorrow evening. Her actual Birthday. But, we won't wait for you 'cause it doesn't sound like the truck will be ready and you don't need to spend the gas money anyway. Use the money for some wood for the layout. Missy won't mind.

Well, time for bed. Prayers for those in need.

 Good Morning Folks,

woke up quite early this morning - I am all edgy about getting that job! I have a positive feeling about how that interview went, but you never know, on what basis they will come to their decision Confused

Chloe, just a coffee for me, please - I am still on my diet.

Sam - THAT situation sucks! I am glad that you found a new job with the VRE. They run only weekdays! I do hope that your dream of becoming an engineer will come true through them! For those, who are interested, here is a link with info on the VRE .

Todd - congrats to Missy on her birthday!

Keith - did you get my e-mail?

I have been following up on that thread about how much people would be willing to spend. Interesting to see, how the thread wandered to the R-T-R vs. kit building and the collector vs. true model railroader topics. Also some peculiar views were voiced there. Seems to me, as if a lot of people don´t care about supporting their own economy. Now, I don´t want to rant about that, it is just that I find this attitude, well, say, peculiar Whistling

There are only a few items on today´s HD list for me, so plenty of time to do some armchair model railroading.

Have a rewarding day!

Ulrich.. why yes I got your email.. and I thank you for it too.  I was very concerned.

I am up late.. don't feel tired.. and I feel like talking.  lol

Funny thing.. working in a hospital environment for almost 3 decades.. you've seen alot.. and sometimes twice over.  I'll never forget.. I was the 'dedicated ER x-ray Tech' .. and they give you a room.. and a 'runner' .. and you do emergency work.. all day long.. one after another.  And this runner.. is .. well my aid..  He assists me in moving the patient onto the table.. and he gets the patients.. developes the film.. puts the paperwork together.. and I just take x rays... Cush job.. really~

Well I'm telling my aid.. as I x ray this blind person.. and I'm talking to them both.. telling the aid.. 'How I met this blind person.. she could describe you .. exactly'.. and my friend/aid.. he kind of laughs.. and I say to the patient.. "For all I know.. you're the same gal~! "  And she laughs.. and my friend laughs.. well sure enough.. 'Ol Keith' yarnin a good one.. but it turns out.. the patient is the blind gal that could SEE~!  So my friend laughs.. and chuckling.. and I say.. "Go ahead.. describe my friend Paul here " .. lol.. well Paul is Irish.. May Hay RED hair.. and Kinky hair.. well sure enough.. this blind gal describes Paul.. down to the hair.. omg.. "Well there ya go Paul".. no one is gonna  believe you either~"  lol.

So in my time.. I have seen alot.. and concerning your mom Ulrich..

Onetime.. I was the 'Young Married Guy'.. with two boys in diapers.. a young couple always needs the extra money.  And I worked a special shift.. that required I do all the mornig portable Chest X rays.  And it was a trauma hospital.. the kind of paitents that are really messed up.. and need to be in a hospital, in traction, .. body casts.. feeding tubes.. and on a vent.  The works.

Well there was this one patient.. a young man.. only 19 years old.. ah gheez .. he was in a coma.. on a vent.. he was there for months.  I had felt bad the day he came in.. from a very bad freewary accident.  So every morning I did his portable chest x ray.  I still remember his name to this day.. Ray was his first name.  And if you guys can't tell by now.. I'm a very upbeat person.. and I always like to talk.. to anyone.. even if you're in a coma.

So every morning.. I'd go to x ray this guy.. I'd open up the drapes.. talk to him.. tell him the weather.. "Its pouring rain out there.. be glad you're in here.. " . tell him the results of the baseball game.. anything.  I did this for months.. and then about a year later.. I was doing out patient work.. and a young man comes in for an OP Chest x ray.  I see his name.. ask him if it was him.. about a year ago.. and he says yes.

I am like.. "RAy.. its you.. you ... you were here a year ago.. in a coma... that Ray?  "  He said yes.. and of course.. I've got to ask him.. now.. because.. back then.. you rarely see the patient go home.. and usually off to some other personal / private care.

"So Ray.. tell me.. I talked to you every chance I got.. I told you the weather.. I told you my name.. I told you the date.. and what was going on with our president~  Did you hear me talking to you? " ... lol.  I mean.. my face is proud as punch.. with a smile.. and he looks at me.. and says..

  "Nope"..

"Ah gheez.. not even one time?.. cuz I  would have sworn you heard me at least twice"  "I know.. I felt like you answered me"

  "I didn't remember anything"

" oh ok~"  "Well nice to see ya Ray "

What I didn't know.. was .. his mother was sitting in the waiting area listening to our conversation.

She jumped up.. and said.. " I knew it.. someone was talking to him.. I just knew it "

Well Ulrich.. people in coma's do hear ya.. I've seen it once.. maybe twice.

But best of all concerning your parents.. I know of another story.. a short one.. its about a father and son.

The doctor tells the son.. it might not be long.. God Only Knows.   So the son asks the doctor.. "What do I talk to my dad about? "

"What ever you two did together before~"

" Fishing ! I'll talk about how we used to go fishing together~"

Well the father and son .. start talking about the good ol days.. next thing you know.. they're planning a fishing trip.  Father siting up in bed.. with a zip in his do dah.

Sometimes.. with the elderly.. you need to talk about those days.. and who knows.. maybe you and your father will go over some nice pics.. around your mom.  I think it could help for all you.

Its just me.. I know.. lol. it could be worse. you could be trapped  in an elevator with me.. or lost at sea.. in a raft.. lol.

Ok.. I'm off to bed. Its real late..  the East Coast will be up in 5 hours.

I am worried about you - you should get some sleep.  10.10 am in our neck of the woods - must be 02.10 am in yours Zzz

Good morning all,

The first plaster casting came out of the mold last night, WOW, the original was a pile of scrap with steam locomotive spoke wheels and various scrap top of locomotive details and stuff.  The casting came out as an exact duplicate. I think the use of the mold release compound brushed on the original made all the difference in the world in preserving the details.

John, I think a flat object could be cast if the original was glued in the bottom of the box for the rubber mold.  I wouldn’t use plaster; I bought a two part casting plastic that does a very nice job, if you stir part A and B together for 1 minute you get the hardness equal to a roller skate wheel.  The instructions call for you to put the mold under a vacuum or heat the mold to remove the air bubbles as the plastic dries; I put the mold on a metal cookie sheet against a box fan.  The vibration of the fan removes all the air bubbles of the cast part before it dries.

I'm doing some more of the truck weighscales as I do have something of a collection of elevators here---I'm also going into the bottom of the loaders and placing a bunch of unloaders into them--makes them a little more "realistic" as it were--Whistling

Good morning all. Looks like rain today.

Ulrich- I figured the how much would you spend thread would blossom. I read it on the first day and said it could be the basis for a scratch vs. kit vs. RTR debate. Haven't read it since. I get tired of the "cost of..." "death" or"end of.." threads. Though that's my opinion and others obviously aren't tired of them like they are "code 100 or 83" threads, so I happily practice what I preach. If I'm not interested in a subject, for watever reason, I just click out or don't even click in without comment. Really not that difficult with very little practice.

Hm. Maybe I do another load of laundry this morning. It would make the wife happy.

Have a Great Day!!!!
