 Evenin' folks!

Just a decafe for me Flo.  What?  Yes I am smiling tonight!  Just read the local paper.  Something on the front page of the Finger Lakes Times tonight has made my day!

Well, I will have to start with a bit of background.   Ten years or so ago there was a kid growing up in the Ghetto of Newark New Jersey.  Had spent his life in complete poverty even though he was fortunate in having a father who is a minister.  He had gotten in some trouble at school and was very likely going down a dark path with his young life.  He ended up being accepted into the Newark Boys Choir School I believe for a couple of years.  Then ended up spending a couple summers at a military style camp operated by the Episcopal Church.  While there the director of the school who is an Episcopal Priest here in Geneva noticed that there was some very real possibilities for this kid.  He had some amazing leadership ability already and a strong sense of character which just needed to be directed better....  He also got the attention of a young couple working at the camp who were also from the Geneva area. They are music teachers and active in the music program at the same Episcopal Church.  They ended up more or less "adopting" the kid and with his parents permission brought him to Geneva for High School.

Here he became his class president one year, sang in both the choir program at the church and at school becoming a sought after soloist.  He was a lead in the high School Musical every year in HS.  He is the only Black King Arthur I have ever seen, and he was powerful in the production.  I also watched his mediation skills at work as he helped many kids iron out difficulties.  He maintained a very high grade point average all during HS and considered himself very blessed to have the opportunity to go to school here.  He was granted a late interview for the MLK Scholarship 4 years ago because he was in Albany NY addressing the NYS Legislature on the day we held interviews. He won a MLK Scholarship and went on to Hobart College here in Geneva.

While at Hobart he worked in the office of the President of the college, and was elected by his peers to be the Student Member of the College Board of Trustees.  He was our featured speaker at our MLK Scholarship Dinner last year and delivered a powerful and hope filled speech.  He graduated yesterday.  You can see his reaction here: http://www.fltimes.com/  The smile says it all!

I saw him last week at a local diner and wished him well.  He is going back home to Newark, NJ and hopes to make a positive difference in the lives of people there.  I hope he succeeds!

Yes!  I am sitting here smiling!

 Good evening...

SAWYER: Nice job on the layout and the latest video...like someone else said, you just keep getting better and better!Thumbs Up

RAY: THAT's a neat story, and a durn-good news photo. I hope to get something THAT good in a couple of weeks when I cover Clear Creek Amana's graduation. Kids like THAT give me a measure of hope for the future...

Of course, we've got some "kids" here in the Diner THAT do as well!Thumbs Up

Welp, between the truck fund, cash in the now formerly troubled account, and a generous benefactor...we've got the truck repair covered. This time. The Truck fund was going to go toward a tie rod end and wheel bearings...guess THAT will occur later in the year. *crossing the fingers*

Evening all....

Back at the house again tonight, due to a breakdown.  Engine tripped four short-circuit codes pulling through Illinois Saturday night, and started cutting in and out.  Truck is at the shop now, will have to see what was wrong with it (sure the boys at Richfield are real happy to see it again, they just fixed it last week!), thinking some wires got worn through and touched metal.  Some days just can't win for losing.....

No model progress tonight, rest is in order, but did get everything I ordered from Micro-Mark, so next time I'm home, can wire up the layout and get trains running.  Did think about a name for the paper mill, though, will probably use the NewPage name, with the location being my deceased grandmother's name, kind of as a tribute to her.....

See everyone later....

Amen to that!

Tomorrow I've got my usual once a week wound care appointment to go to, at 7:45 in the flipping morning. Then Wednesday morning I have to go see my primary physician so he can tell me how I did on the last physical, and he'll also be checking out my hand tremors. They're much better since he put me on the Zanac. Sometime tomorrow or Wednesday I'm going to see if I can get over to my parent's place to cut the grass. I'm hoping I can get the parts I need for the van soon. The handling stability of my car is getting worse. Don't know if I mentioned it but I found a second stress fracture just back of the right side A-frame just off the main chassis rail up front. It just keeps getting better and better! I've decided that once the van is back on the road I'll sign the Century over to my parents and they can do what they like with it. They'll likely sell it for scrap. I Would!

Evening ya'll

Garry, oh. Whenever I get my red one back from the patcher I'll take a look and see if I can get the mars to actually work. I'll post results when I do it. My P2K U28B was pretty easy as there was an LED already there, the GP30s pose a whole new set of challenges. Someday I may attempt it with my P2K GP9s or SD9s.

Chris, I'm with you on them not keeping inventory. I'm still trying to find a set of good trim pieces for my car. I haven't been able to get old ones off a junk car without them getting screwed up.

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

Good evening folks - Just a pepermint tea for me please Chloe (that will save Sawyer some mrr $s Big Smile)

Mike:

Been doing some cleaning n dusting in the train room this afternoon, also a bit of playing with the campground. To me something just isn't right, so whats your thoughts on it.
...Um, what's the large yellow drum thingy?Confused  Also, what era is the layout?  The tent says pre- 70's to me.My 2 cents

Chris: THAT sure is a nasty with the Debit card. We have one from the bank, and I made sure (not easy to convince the bank that I wanted this feature) that the card is in an account which is NOT connected in any electronic way to any other account. Then, we only keep a max of $300, and usually half that or less, in there. So, if we run into a "funny machine"  - one that has been tampered with to skim info, for instance, our total downside risk is minimized. Downside inconvenience is that we have to watch the balance so we don't run it dry - which happens! Glad you were able to get this leak stopped fast!

Keith:

there was a thin line between the HO building and N scale.
....in this case, not so thin!  BTW, not much ice around here these days, except in this amazing new contraption that is just coming into the stores - I think it's going to be called a "Refrigerator" , or something like that! Clown TongueSeriously though, you are right about mailing costs, Canada Post wants an arm, leg and a couple of grandchildren for most parcels. So, I'm going to add some value to that HO station and sell it on - the buyer pays the shipping, after all.Thumbs Up

Jeff: That silver paint you've used on the grille and headlights, is that the "chrome finish" look, or the regular spray can silver? Just curious as to how you like it if it's the chrome. The photos show that you are indeed Die Sprühdose Rembrandt Bow Approve

Rob:

Atlas Train-man cars: Aside from the couplers, are there any other differences between these and the cars Atlas produced 30 - 40 years ago?
...I'd guess, since I see we're talking N, that the wheel profiles of 20-30 years ago would have had those great big flanges, whereas with today's Trainman the profile is much closer to RP25. My 2 cents I'd also guess along with Lee that the detail is better (but there can be surprises on that front depending on whether the original tooling was high quality - and sometimes an older model has finer detail than the newer! Depends on who took over whose dies perhaps.)
Either that or swap out all the trucks and sell the IMC cars with old rapidos on the-bay.
...which is what I intend for the older cars whose trucks I am cannibalizing to replace Rapidos that come with stuff I've bought at shows or on the Bay. Speaking of which, I've now got my 4 modern tank cars, plus the McCain Arcticar out on the main in service. I bit the bullet and tried my hand at weathering them, at least a little. The trucks I did following that article in, IIRC, the April MR.  I like the way the springs pop when the MR techniques are applied. Nothing in the league that  Robby, Jeff and Chris  play in, but better'n nutting -which is where most of my cars and locos are!

Ray: A "neighbour" over in Mushaboom is a farrier, and has draught horses he uses for logging in the winter as well. So, he has this pile of aged hoss poo that we can go over and bag off as we need. Trés Cool.

I have been thinking about buying one of the very large rocks for my front yard.....  THAT much less to mow.
...how's your trimmer? All around that thing will be un-mowable grass, unless you set the rock in a bed with mulch or whatever between it and the lawn. - that's more weeding then - your call! Whistling That's a great story about the "kid" from Newark! Thumbs Up

Saywer: Interesting video, thanks for putting that together.Thumbs Up On the roofs for the concrete plant - you said you were doing them grey. What material would that be representing? BTW, I've found that fine grit sandpaper makes a handy textured surface for flat roofs, and doesn't need painting - I just dirty it up a bit with powdered charcoal or whatever. This one hasn't even been glued down yet, just laid there - I'm still needing to get inside that structure.

Barry: What is it they say - there are just two seasons - Winter and Construction!Laugh

Bed Time looms once more! (I build these posts over a day or so, then get finished around bedtime most days - just in case anyone's wondering why I'm everlastingly saying Goodnight! Clown  Anyway, take that as said, and God Bless. Prayers for all in need of healing, Comfort, Prosperity and Peace.[angel

Good Evening Diners!

Say Jeff, as you are painting your van in RR colours, don't you think  a nice set of air horns mounted on the roof would be in order?  The van is looking good by the way.

Rob, you asked about Trainman rolling stock. I'm new to N and have purchased a few of them. Apparently the molding is largely new. I can say that although the detail isn't as fine as on Micro Trains or Atlas Master, it is still quite good to my eyes. I have a couple of flats with trailers and a  box car or two.

Well we had Pippa in for a follow-up ultrasound and amazingly the tumor in her bladder is actually a little smaller than it was a couple of months ago. We have her on Medicam which is really a med for joints but it has been found to sometimes slow tumor growth. I guess we lucked out. I was sure we wouldn't have her for summer but who knows, she might make her 16th in Oct.

Well time for bed as I am really tired after wrestling with a large shrub that had to be planted tonight. You know the drill, take it out of the hole as it is a little too low, now it is too high, no crooked, hold it to see if it is the right side facing the yard.

It's Krylon Metal Brilliance Silver. Now, I've received several requests for info as to why I'm using cheap spray paints. Three reasons. #1, I don't have the money for automotive quality paint, #2, I'm not restoring the vehicle, just making it more presentable than a rolling patchwork quilt with a few pieces missing, #3, I see no reason to waste expensive paint on a nearly 30 year old vehicle. As it is, this paint job has cost $80 so far. That doesn't the iced tea with peach I have when I'm on break in the shade.

The police air horn from my car will be mounted behind the grille. That's the best I can do on that.  It's already made several mechanics nearly dent the bottoms of several cars they were working on and scared one vehicle inspector out of one of her shoes and that was with fair warning that the horn is VERY load

Good evening all. Looked at the layout and I know I did something but can't remember what.

Chris- Good news about the card. I'm glad the CU did you right. Lke you, I was surprised at how easily the process went for Mom.

Galaxy- Angel

Ulrich- I will spare you on my opinions on the "updated" cars and the fuel savings etc. I'm sure it wouldn't sit well with some. Let's just say 20 years ago I had a car that got 20 miles per gallon with nothing to speak of on it as far as computers. Today, my wifes car gets 22 mpg with a boat load of electronics. I gained 3 mpg on my 1994 two wheel drive pickup from my 1979 4 wheel drive. I'll stop there. Um, what would be the chances be of you and Petra moving in with the parents? Kinda split expenses and then you and Petra would be around to help. Pride I know plays a lot so if they think they are helping you..... Just a thought.

I also get my cash from the bank. Not because of the potential of theft, but because the ATM's charge to get cash. Oddly enough, Williamsville does not have an ATM owned or serviced by my bank. The only bank in town. Not even the bank itself, which is the main branch of three in the county, has an ATM. Only hereConfused. Of course since my restaurant job pays cash, I find myself not having to go to the cash getting people often. Online purchases are done only with a credit card. They are ghost money until I receive the bill and pay it. My Debit card to the actual bank account is only used at certain places. So far Walmart and Castle Trains has been up and up. The credit card may fight me, I don't know, but until I give them money, it's still mine.

Rob- I don't know alot about older train cars and such, but I'm inclined to agree with Lee.

Chris- I no way do I mean to accuse anyone, but if I were a betting man and my only choices were what you suggested, I would guess at iTunes. By the way, glad to see the hopper. I keep forgetting how talented you are. (that oughta get a few more picks in there)

Jeff- I know a spray can isn't a spray gun and never will be, but that looks pretty good to me. I will wait somewhat patiently for the light bar to be installed.

Ray- So glad to here you spread only top quality s***. Somehow I have come to expect nothing less from you. ROFLMAO!!!!!! (oh my sides hurt) I enjoy hearing stories like that for two reasons. One, it just makes me feel good when someone turns out good. The second is it lends credence to my idea of "quit whining and making excuses. Life is what you make of it. Not what you are handed. Not everyone is wealthy, but poor is in the mind, not in the pocketbook."

Have a couple more posts to read but I have to pee really bad and am tired, so tomorrow.

Prayers for those in need.

No light bar this time around. I'll likely sell it off to one of the members in the fire dept. I can hardly walk without special equipment anymore and even with that I move at a slow pace, so I see little point in remaining with the fire dept any longer. At the next meeting I attend I'll most likely turn my equipment in to the chief. He's the one to accept it as he's the officer I directly report to. I helped to draft the depts constitution and bylaws way back in 1994 when we didn't even have a station, not to mention a truck. I started as a low ranked fire fighter and fought my way up into officers country. I became the Safety Officer and an asst training officer in 1998 at the rank of lieutenant and was promoted to captain on January 1st 2001. I've also been a senior member on the board since 1997. I wrote the operations manuals on some of the trucks (as well as helped to design them) and I executed my duties to the letter over the years including relieving the chief of duty on a couple of occasions for serious safety infractions. I earned the respect of my fellow fire fighters for having the fortitude to stand up to him when he knew he was wrong and for several other things I did to protect them from harm through rigorous enforcement of the departments rules and regulations. We have NEVER had a serious injury to anyone in the dept unless you count a twisted ankle or two. Whoever they choose to take my place as the Safety Officer will have a big pair of shoes to fill. I've been there through three chiefs and four assistant chiefs and I've seen a lot of fire fighters come and go. I've also kicked a lot of 'I ain't scared of nothing' applicants out the door. The only person who's not afraid of anything is a fool and has no business being a fire fighter. As I see it, I can't function there any longer as I can hardly get out of my own way and climbing up on the trucks is difficult. My very presence could prove to be a safety hazard to those around me, so I think it's time to hang up the bunker gear and retire. I've had a 16 year run and it's time for somebody else to take it.

 Good Morning Folks,

well, some of you are just getting a rest from the day´s chores, while mine just start. Thought I drop in before working on the HD list Petra has put up for today.

Chloe, some coffee and a breakfast bagel, please n´ thanks.

Jeff - your van looks good, I can only chime in -  you are "Der Sprühdosen-Rembrandt". I am sorry to hear, though, that you will have to "retire" from the FD. With all what you have done for them, they should make you  Honorary Fire Chief!

Todd - yes, it would be the best, if Petra and I could just move in with them. It is my parents, who don´t want to be dependent, not evenon us! We would also lose all financial support and would have to live off my father´s pension.  There are so many if´s and but´s attached to such a move, that it may not be a viable way to go. What a crazy world we live in.

Ray - there is a lesson to be learned: When you spread *** around, make sure it´s quality!

I forgot, who asked about my avatar, as I read the post in the middle of the night. The "beast" on it is a raven, holding a torch. The picture was taken on a visit to the town of Quedlinburg, which has retained all of its 14th century character. There, these ravens act as street lights.

Have a good day!

Good morning all,

Jeff,
when I was on a volunteer Department we had a few guys, due to age or medical issues, just couldn’t go on runs anymore.  We advanced them to the status of trustees on the department.  They were still there; put provided more guidance than muscle for the department.

Good morning.   More rain today, and the weather guy said a small "cell" is moving our way.  Maybe hail, and heavy rain.

I moved the train around yesterday on the layout, and it rain pretty good.  I haven't done to much to it lately.   Not much planned for me today.  Work later, and that's it!!

The wife is doing better, but still has bad headaches.  She is seeing a neurologist Monday.   Plus she got a lawyer about all of this mess.  Seems like her company is doing everything wrong!!  I'm worried once her job knows she has a lawyer, well the ____ might hit the fan.

Jeff.......I like the paint job.  Plus how do you like the van??

Sawyer.....Nice video.  I haven't made one in awhile.  Maybe I need to do a update.

Well I hear some thunder.  Hope everybody has a good day.

Say Jeff, as you are painting your van in RR colours, don't you think  a nice set of air horns mounted on the roof would be in order?  The van is looking good by the way.

Jeff Replied: "The police air horn from my car will be mounted behind the grille. That's the best I can do on that.  It's already made several mechanics nearly dent the bottoms of several cars they were working on and scared one vehicle inspector out of one of her shoes and that was with fair warning that the horn is VERY load."

Well, Jeff, if that's the case, how about number boards and a mars light? That would be a nice touch. Couplers and ditch lights, too.

Seriously, Jeff, the 0-4-0 (van) looks great! Thumbs Up ... Also, Jeff thanks fro telling about your work with the fire department. You are quite an inspiration!

Ray ... Speaking of inspiartion, that young man's story is impressive. Thanks for telling us about it. Good to know about young people accomplishing good stuff. Cheers for "King Arthur". It is very good we have the young guys here in the forum accomplishing good stuff. Glad they are here.

Barry ... Construction? Do they have shovel ready projects in Canada?

Robby ... Sorry to hear about your wife's headache. Good she has a lawyer. Sounds like it was work related, but she had the car wreck, too.

Today is election day in Kentucky, and I have my choices. Time to go vote for them. With my luck, "the other guys" will win.  ... sigh.

Hello Ulrich ... I intended to say "Hi" to you earlier. You're supposed to be doing "honey dos", and there you are posting a photo on the internet. tsk, tsk. ... That is a great model!. Thanks for posting it. The clouds look great, too. Perhaps, there is a hint of some ash from the Iceland volcano.

Well, I'm headed into town.

Happy Model Railroading!

"Good morning Diners.. Coffee please"    Quote:  At one time I thought plastic & cheques were safe and secure. Now days  its money orders  from our bank , to who or where it goes. The extra 35cents is  good insurance from evil  doings. Jim

I use cash, its widely accepted everywhere and anywhere in the world.

Well I took Jeanne off the to the airport,  she's flying from coast to coast to D.C.  And this time.. she has a layover.. to pick up some plane.... in the middle of nowhere.. halfway to anywhere.   I hate that.  I really hate to fly, but when I do.. I enjoy the flight.  I'm one that really looks down.. looks at everything.. from mountains.. to washes.. rivers.. train tracks.. passes.. its all interesting to me.    One time Jeanne and I flew into SF airport in one of those small Eagles.  Smaller than ever.. Jeanne was saving us money.  We took steep banks and turns just to get into the airport.  Me?  Heck.. I want First Class.. non stop.  The works.. "What kind of beers do you have?" lol.

But everytime we fly... I alway bring up a youtube for Jeanne to watch.  Oh.. of some beginner trying to land a jet plane.. but keeps slamming on the brakes.    About 3 maybe 4 times this student pilot slams on the brakes.. but this time Jeanne didn't want to see the vid.  I guess because I'm not going with her.  But if you've never seen it.. and need a good laugh..  here goes.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cIoMehFs9jc

Imagine that~ she didn't want to watch it.

Jeff.. I gotta say.  When I saw the van.. the first thing that came into my mind.. was .. Camping.  Perfect setup to visit nature.. but still protected and warm.. and you probably won't wake up with your hair all 'Dank'.  Yes.. thats a real word there... I had to look it up onetime.. a bunch of us went camping at the beach and my one friend used that word about camping and every morning you wake up with your hair all dank.  lol  dank: unpleasantly moist or humid; damp and, often, chilly. yep.. there I go again talking about being cold.  Wake up at the beach with your head damp and chilly.  There's just something about that  chilly ocean wind.. it truly sucks the dryness and warmth right out of you.

But Jeff, that type of van.. you go to a 500 Car race and sit on top and watch the race.  Or an Air Show and have a cool one~

Good morning all. Can't tell if it's gonna rain or not. Don't think it's suppose to. Well today Is Mom day, so after I put the restaurant groceries away I will be going to see her. I don't work tonight so maybe I'll get to spend some time in the train room. Unless I can burn.

Jeff- sounds like you've had a good and productive run. Living in a small town with a VFD, I know most everyone on the FD past and present and that gave me some thoughts. Are you allowed to stay on the board? Most all if not all, our board members aren't on the FD anymore so that could be a way to stay on. After a certain number of years, (escapes me now the actual amount but I'm thinking 20) you remain on the FD in honorary lifetime status. Part of them, but not responding. You could if needed but they don't count on you as they do the rest.( sorry, have to turn in the issue pager) Also, without actually responding to a fire or other emergency and, as many veteran fire fighters feel, be "in the way", do they not need someone back at the station to monitor or relay radio traffic to the county? I mean Parish? I'm sure the release of a body in some instances would be a welcome relief. Also you mentioned before traffic control, again, I'd think they'd appreciate all that important stuff that takes away from the man power would be wanted. Besides, you are pretty much driving a moving road block now (giggle). How about storm watchers. I'm sure the good folk of your district would sure love a guy who knows what the difference between a wall cloud and a thunderhead is. I know it may be rough to be there knowing you can't jump in, but there are a lot of needed jobs as you know, that take men away from the fight so to speak. Of course I don't know the wholes on the subject or how things apply to you and the Department, just throwing some ideas out there I'm sure you've thought of to maybe keep you on the Dept. Hate to see you give up something you love, when you fight so hard to do things you don‘t. Yeah, what Lee said.

Ulrich- Ah yes, I forgot about the loss of support. Odd isn't it? Over here, if you're down on your luck, or in many cases just effin LAZY!!! And make a career LIVING OFF YOU AND ME!!!! (Well, not you , I sometimes forget your in Germany.) Sucking all MY money down I WORKED for so THEY DON'T HAVE TOO!! (pant pant) Sorry. Not talking about the legitimate cases who use the system as it was intended. We all know who I'm talking about. The users and abusers who are driving in NICER CARS THAN I AM and pay NOTHING for health care because they JUST DON'T WANT to get a JOB!! Sorry again. Anyway with all the whipstitch things you can get support for, and all the things healthy, ABLE BODIED, LAZY...... (sorry) can do and still collect, it's sure strange that you have to let the elderly, the ones who built what we have today, coast on their own until they are broke and no one, but the government can afford to assist them. Seems to me, it would be cheaper for you to draw your due until you get back on your feet, and assist the parents. Instead of having the parents end up going on 100% government aide. Maybe they should do the math. One check is less than two. By the way, WOW! On the photo. I truly thought you were posting a picture of a proto until I read.

Welp, spent too much time here. Best get a movin. I think I'll swing by the Hobby Lobby and see if there is some closeout pricing on the WS plaster cloth and/or Lightweight Hydrocal. If not, I'll be stopping at Lowe's on the way home for more POP. I've decided I'm going to use all three for different things. Hydrocal for casting and anything that requires some strength, plaster cloth for the base and POP for your basic roads, smooth over plaster cloth and sections you just won't be messing with too much after the scenery is applied and other odds and ends. Cheaper don't you know.

Have a Great Day!!!!

On that picture I may have to add, that it was probably photographed outside, hence the so "natural looking" clouds.

Garry - the HD list was short today - just the grocery run and a few odds and ends in our little household. So I did have some time left to be spend surfing the web.

Todd - no harm done. I feel very much the same about people not wanting to find a job. In fact, we have way too many of those in our neck of the woods. People, who have never really contributed to our "welfare" system. I did, for over 30 years, and I am now getting back only a small portion of what I had paid in. Well, tomorrow, I will be going for that interview. I really want to get THAT job. They don´t pay what I  used to get, but, in any case, it will be much better than our current situation. You know, Petra and I still have dreams of traveling to some places we´d like to see before we close our eyes.  This could come within reach with that job. I don´t talk on far away places, but even going to see our son in Hannover is a problem right now - just cannot afford the gas. If I had lived my life in a tax heaven, like the US, I could now enjoy retirement... Just to give you an idea, my average income tax rate was 35 %, sales tax is 19%, contribution to social security averaging 15 % - need I say more?

Talking of jobs - I have not seen Sam being around here lately - hope he is doing well!

Der John.. I was looking at your pics.. each one.. saying.. "yeah~" and "yeah~"  I waiting for you to .. REEEALLY weather it.. lol.  I bought some weathered cars last year.. I believe done by a pro here in our forums.  His name is Grammpy.  I paid top dollar for em... got them cheaper when he first started listing.  I believe I have some of his best work in N Scale.  Not only that I felt I could never do something like his work,  and if I ever wanted to.. I"d be looking at his work to follow.

So let me continue.. I get to the last pic.. the one with the painted springs.. "Ah~ Nice"

Now John.. I've got to ask you..   "Did you paint those hoses black?.. what detail.!  I can't wait to give it a try.

As for me.. I've hit the skids on the layout.  I'm waiting for the parts to come in.  Lamposts manholes.. yep the whole 10 yards.... btw .. Is there a support group.. ?.. called.. Model Railroading anonomyous? I think I need help and couseling.  This has gotten into the blood and bones of me.

But since we're speaking of N scale verses HO and the thin line.  Well I plan on using the party foam as a sidewalk for certain areas.. I figured I might want to bury a tin shed.. just a foot lower or two down into the sub flooring.  Just drop it a tad.. in height.  I also found a HO streetlamp.. looks similiar to more of a yard light for N scale.

But concerning your other pic.. wow.. there is a big difference in between buidings.  On a side note here... I wonder how many of you .. do sell on ebay.  I don't.. and if i do get a HO by mistake.. I usually give them away.

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe I'll have a short stack of blueberry pancakes with NYS Maple Syrup, a side of bacon, and lots of dark roast coffee in a R&GV Mug this morning.

Dark and gloomy day here in the Finger Lakes.  It is 59°F outside and the high for the day has already past.... (60°).  Rain showers likely for this afternoon and tonight.  Rain is not likely, it is now happening......... Whistling

Thanks for the comments about Dan.  He is a young man we expect to do some great things in the next several years. He is a friend to all, always has a smile and a handshake for people.  One of those rare kids that gets along with his elders and with other kids.  Sometimes all it takes is an opportunity and a hard shove in the right direction!  Much better to see your students (although Dan wasn't really a student of mine I did work with him during the shows) on the front page for their accomplishments than read about them in "Police Beat". Wink  And that's no Bull!

Jeffrey, I too hope there is some way you can stay active with the FD.  I'm sure there are needed areas you could be a big help with.  And thank you for serving your community through the Fire Dept. for so many years!

Ulrich my prayers continue for you and the family.

As always, I have lots of little odds and ends to get done around here.  This afternoon I will be heading over to school to vote.  School budget and one open slot on the Board of Education.  I should be getting a couple packages in today's mail.  One is from Fast Tracks........ Big Smile

Better get going and see what today will bring here in the Finger Lakes.

Later!

Ray Seneca Lake, Ontario, and Western R.R. (S.L.O.&W.) in HO

We'll get there sooner or later!

Ulrich my friend.  I wouldn't be this way if I didn't care about ya.~

Quote: " Well, tomorrow, I will be going for that interview. I really want to get THAT job."

I think we need to give you a few pointers.  I'll put this in the same file as when we were coming up with excuses of what for Robby/Chris.. (I forget who.. oops) of why he coudln't come to work in the middle of a blizzard.

Now I'm not trying to be an expert.. or get you nervous.  But its nice to go in with a 'game plan' and also unstandand your surroundings.  (Have Petra give a 'Mock' interview)

Its also nice to present ideas.. in hopes of bring forth better ideas.  In which I hope others can contribute.

1.  First of all.. I want you to know.. The person doing the interview.. is actually more nervous than yourself.

2.  Maybe you'll have to stress why you are a better candiate for this job over others.  Whats the one thing an employer wants.  Attendance... you come to work everyday.. no matter what.  In fact you show up to work early in hopes they need an extra hand.. you're always there just in case and never late.  As far as location.. you live pretty darn close .. and feel free to call me in on my day off.. because someone called in sick.  I'm available to work.

3.  As far as Cultures go.. I'd have to guess on this one.. but usually breaking the ice.. is best and puts the interviewer at ease.  I know in some cultures is almost a mistake.. or a break in protcol or mannerism's if you don't ask the person.. certain things.. or state things. ( how are you.. wife? kids? .. weather). BEFORE you get down to businesses.

Now I would guess most native Californians are up-beat.. yes were laid back too.. but then again upbeat.

Now this is just me.. but here goes.

"Hi.. it is nice to meet you.. wow.. what a morning.. You've been busy yourself today?"  "How's the interviewer going?"  "Find anything good?... lol.. Well here I am.  Just what you needed.. and to get all this interviewer over with."

Now  somewhere in between all those sentences.. and replies.. I'd be looking for common ground. weather.. his last name.. his hobbies.. looking for common ground.  I'd even be going into the interview with knowledge of the company.  I'd even ask him.. how long he's been working for the company and Does he like working for them.  I'd even ask for a tour of the place if he has time.. I'd like to see what kind of equipment and enviornment i'll be working in.  Show some interests.  Saying 'hello' to others as you walk past their workstation.  Be yourself.. a friendly person.

Also.. never ever try to compare your old with place with this new one.. be compliment him on how nice this place really IS~.  A nice place to work~

Now.. I also want to stress.. you want to get this job.. for no other reason.. You can always work your way up.  So getting in to the company is the most important.  That I know.. you already know.  But its nice to have a game plan.. even down to the ending statement of.. "I thank you for your time.. even if you dont' pick me .. you never know... something might come up.. where the person you picked decided not to work for you.. Is it alright if I call you up in a week to let you know..I'm still interested?

Also my friend look for common ground when talking to people.  If I were doing the interview.. when.. sometimes its as simple as .. 'Well your ancestors and similiar to mine.. our roots go back to Prussia' Its a done deal.  What if this interviewer is also into modeling RR's.... wow.. that guy will remember you.  And one last thing .. lol.   Your hobby is your work... they go hand in hand.  What if this guy always wanted to model railroads.. but never met anyone before.. Done Deal.

First impressions.. when the guy meets and greets you.. do the same.. with enthusiasm.  Be positive and upbeat.. a breath of fresh air.  Shake hands like a man.. not a bone crusher.. and not the dead fish handshake.  I want you to make sure.. your web of your hand reaches his web of his hand.  Look him in the eye with a smile.  Stand tall ...  be somebody.. you are my friend.  You're the greatest 'Buy' they can get their hands on.

Now I dont' think.. I'd go in there.. "Whoa as me~" so to speak.. all sad.. you need this job.. for many reasons.

But I'd be more upbeat than ever.. and joking.  and say.."Now I don't mean to tell you how much I'd like this job.. and how greatful.. but let me put it this way.. "I'd be so greatful for this job.. if you ever had a flat tire in the middle of the night.. and its cold.. and you just want to get home.. Well ~ you could call me.. and I'd gladly come get ya.. no matter what time of night it was"  always joking and upbeat...  "Now don't pretend you don't remember me, when I call you next week" ".. hey.. its been nice meeting you.. it really has."  I find when I speak from the heart.. it comes through real.. I think you can do this Ulrich.  Go out there and let them know who you are.  You're a Somebody.. go out there and spread your wings.

Ulrich- Just to clarify. I believe the systems we have are for the good. In no way am I upset at all with those who are on these systems temporarily because of loss of jobs, careers, sickness or any number of reasons an able person is without work for a while and needs some help or needs some assitance to help make ends meet until things get better. Nor am I upset about folks who have worked and are now disabled, or in some cases never really could, or for any number of reasons cannot work, and are on it more or less permanently. These are the cases the system was designed to help and I am all for it and do not have any ill feelings toward them at all. The ones that I do, are the ones who just CHOOSE to immediately go on the programs, have their kids never really try to get jobs or better themselves and expect food, health care living quarters and some spending money for nothing more than filling out a form. The systems are in place for the assistance of the citizens and are being abused by many, throwing a bad view on those who are not abusing but using as it was intended. What really gets me is watching some young able bodied individual, walk out with a fist full of financial assistance easily, but an individual who has worked his life, falls on some bad times or health issues that are either temporary or permanent, and looses everything because there is some reason he either can't qualify, or they say there is just not enough to go around. THAT is what reeeeeally burns my sit upon.

Rant over. Gotta go, I'm late.

Oh, Kieth- I am very familiar with Grammpy. He is one of the many really talented modellers on this forum. His photos of his work are really inspiring and you are lucky to have some of his work on your layout.
