The argument here, but she can cook. ok.. well to me ..~ its a foot tapper. Ok.. here's the beginning.. lol.
If you wanna be happyFor the rest of your life,Never make a pretty woman your wife,So from my personal point of view,Get an ugly girl to marry you.~~~~

Good Morning Everyone! (Good Night, Keith!)
Mah nah, mah nah? Not again
No, Zoe, promised - I won´t sing, I will just stay here, enjoy my French Sunday breakfast and keep quiet. Thank you - that´s my gal!
Keith - I bet you and I are the living proof, that your song can´t be right. We both are happy, and our wives may not be pretty in terms of a Heidi Klum, Naomi Campbell or Linda Evangelista, but they are pretty to us. (So, now that Petra is not looking over my shoulder any more ...
John - I am sorry for all the hassle you have to go through with that HO scale structure that wants to be an N scale one. I am always afraid of things like this happen, when I place an order to overseas vendors. Return shipping easily adds to $ 50 - 75, which is prohibitive.
Chuck - thanks for your PM. I have lost track of all the names that appeared in the Diner within the last 15 months. Seems as if I am getting old now, I start to forget things (especially those, which are on my HD list). There has been a lot of coming and going recently, with a number of people showing up only occasionally. For the sake of security and protection, there is no list of names and addresses, other than the one posted here a long time ago.
1. Well, they handed him his orders in Monroe, Virginia, Sayin', "Steve, you're way behind time. This is not 38, it is Old 97 You must put her into Spencer on time."
2. Well, the engineer he said to his black, greasy fireman "Shovel on a little more coal, And when we cross that White Oak Mountain You can watch Old 97 roll."
3. It's a mighty hard road from Lynchburg to Danville A road with a three-mile grade. It was on that grade that he lost his air brake, You can see what a jump she made.
4. He was goin' down the grade making 90 miles an hour, When his whistle broke into a scream, He was found in the wreck with his hand on the throttle, He was scalded to death by the steam.
5. Now the telegram came into Washington Station And this is what it said: That brave engineer that drove old 97 Is layin' down in Danville, dead.
6. Now listen, all you ladies, you must all take a warning, From this story a lesson learn: Never speak harsh words to your true lovin' husband, He may leave you and never return.
Ouch - that hurts! Yes, Zoe, I had promised not to sing, yes, I won´t do it again - now will you please stop beating me with that pan? Thank - you are so kind!
Have a good Sunday!
Bowl of un-salted mixed nuts, please.
Todd, hey that worked. "Ma nah ma nah......" Now what do I do? It's 3:00 in the morning, and it looks like it's goint to be another...Oh No!
Got nothing done today beyond regular farm chores. Watched Avatar on BluRay tonight. Like 99% of movies, very predictable, but man are the special effects mind boggling.

My friend Ulrich.. so nice to see you here. A simple poem for you.. but first something different.
We are coming up on the aniversary of Mount St. Helens 30 years ago to the day.. well on the 18th. And I remember it so well.
But what I remember most, is Charles Kuralt, CBS News Sunday Morning. A man with a talent to write, speak and make you feel warm inside that we're all Americans. His sunday morning show was capturing and one of his morning shows was on Mount St. Helen, including an interview with the care taker of the Inn up there, Harry Truman, who choose to live and die up there.
The show ended with with a very quiet moment of just listening to the birds and the streams and the peaceful sounds of the forest. But before he ended his segment in a full one minute of pure bliss of capturing this on film, he quoted a poem from Robert Frost. Written and printed in 1920 Harper's magazine. Almost a tribute to Harry Truman who choose to stay and live his life.
Fire And Ice
Some say the world will end in fire.
Some say ice.
From what I've tasted of desire
... I hold with those who favor fire.
But if I were to perish twice,
... I think I know enough of hate
... To say that for destruction ice
... Is also great
... And would suffice.
Keith - a heart warming poem! I remember Mt. St. Helens very well, only two years earlier I went hiking in that area. The thought of what was underneath my feet still gives me the creeps. Fortunately, we live in an area with no volcanic action and no earthquakes. We may get wet feet, though, should the sea level rise by 5 meters as a result of the global warming.
Have a good rest!

Todd, "Amongst our chief weaponry are..........."
John, You are most likely right on the "Well," I looked up the quote online and came up with what I put here...... Gilbert and Sullivan is great stuff. My Father was a big time fan and did several productions while he was a music teacher way back when. The production of the Mikado I was in was a Local theater group production in Canandaigua, NY that summer. I was first asked the conduct the orchestra for it. Half way through the rehearsals, They found out that the person who was to do the part of the Mikado (a local gent who had turned professional) couldn't make the show dates.... So..... I got tagged to be the Mikado. I directed the first act, then handed the baton over to my dad who directed the 2nd. act which worked out well as the Mikado only shows up in the second act. My Father was playing oboe in the first act. We both had fun! In fact my Mother was in the chorus of "School Girls". Still have my "Fan" from the production. The final night of the production for my stage call bow, I opened up the fan standing at the very front of the stage and in big letters had written in it, "MADE IN JAPAN!" Brought down the house. I haven't changed a bit.

So..... I suppose it's not possible for an N scale building and an HO structure to both measure say, 3" X 5"? Seems to me, he is so........blunt, because he knows he was in error. The only time I recievd an e-mail from a vendor was when we disagreed on what Excellent Condition was. I took it as the picture showed, one assembled piece and not 4. When I recieved it, it was just set together and fell apart in my hands. The attempted repaires appeared to be made with Elmers glue and the broken areas were on the opposite side from that pictured. I was told that the word "vintage" should have told me it needed repairs and that "excellent condition" was just their opinion of it's condition in relation to other vintage items. My response was " sorry I misunderstood. I now know that our rating systems are very different and I will not bother you again regarding this or any future purchases." They responded "thank you for your understanding. We look forward to doing business with you in the future." They're still waiting.
You know, sometimes it's not the difference in opinion that makes the difference. It's how they are responded to that tells me the type of vendor I'm dealing with and whether I'll deal with them again.

I like it too .... But I'll change the GP9 to SD9 for my preferances. See my WPF picture. "She's real fine, my SD9".
Also, Ray ... I actually like the USRA Mikado myself.
Speaking of SD9's, I now have a second one operating. I recently purchased one needing repair. Parts for my "floor model" chassis to the rescue. Other SD's on my roster are 3 SD7's and 2 SD24's
On the layout, I am installing more track.
Der John ... That's quite an ebay adventure. I know people often stick it to each other. Buyers stick it to sellers, too, at times. You probably do not wish to hear some of the adventures on ebay that Shelley and I have experienced.

Hi guys!
I know it's been a bit of a while since I was last in. My tale of woe briefly:
I've been sick and in the hospital. Again, I had too many different pain killers...Oxycontin, Oxycodone {percocet}, and Hydrocodone. The first two for my back and the last for migraines. I had a 3 day migraine that the hydrocodone wasn't touching and obviously neither was the other two. I ended up over medicated and had drug reactions and "drug hangover", so had to go to the hospital to get some help in getting fluids to flush out my system and something to combat the "drug hangover". Mind you I was using them all as prescribed, but was apparently higher than a kite according to my other half., with all three combined...they don't work well together for me anyways.
On another note the MRI showed degenerative disc disease in my lumbar spine along with scarred tissue that was described as "something something necrosis" I'm not sure what that means other than scarred tissue-but anything "necrosis, necrotic" means dead tissue.. The urologist told me if the meds he gave me weren't allowing me to pee that it could be neurological. I see the neurologist tues and will ask him about my lower spine and er uh...functions down there. At the hospital I had to be cathed to release over a quart of urine I could not release on my own, which floored the Dr. cuz he didn't believe I had troubles urinating.. SO they installed a 10 day indwelling catheter. ANy man who has ever had one knows exactly why you don't want one, and any man who hasn't had one, trust me, you don't want it if you don't need it. It could all be tied in neurologically togetehr under the heading of degenerative disc disease. The cath finally comes out thursday! Can't wait, but not looking forward to again not being able to void my bladder on my own. Another cath may have to be installed after a week or two. I will see what the neurologist says on tues, and if its related find out what, besides cathing do we do to solve the problem.
I see by the computer screeen that my eyes have obviously changed enough to go get new glasses. ANother bill I don't need.
I see it looks like Jeffrey got a new van. My 98 needs a new computer and I am not sure if I want to put that kind of money into the 98 as it is 12 years old. this after all the other money I have spent on it lately, I'm about ready to call a tow truck to go to Gary's u-pull-it. What makes it even more difficult to replace the computer is that the emmisions are CA standards, even though they don't apply here. Those computers apparently are hard to come by. SO now it stalls out often enough that we don't drive it much. Thanks goodness we just bought the 06 Kia minivan. At least that gives us some reliable transportation for now!
Well I have bored you all considerably enough.
The prayer candle is lit today for those in need.
To those who are new, if any, welcome.
To those who are happy and bubbly, I'm happy for you. Send some my way please.
Have a great day!

Hey ya'll
Garry, have you figured out how to get the mars light to work on those Atlas ones (much less P2K geeps)? I love they put them there, but I'd love it if they'd work. The way the lightbar in them is makes it kind of hard to do without using microbulbs or having the numberboards flash as well. I might lop them of on my green ones, but I'd like to have them work on my red one.
Jeff, how does the van painted with spray cans look?

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....
2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.
PackerJeff, how does the van painted with spray cans look?
Galaxy- I wish I had known of your latest developments this morning prior to Church. However I don't believe for a second the Big Guy only listens when I'm in his house. So, I'll just mention it next time we talk.
OK, I told you what my plans for today are and, at some point, I believe I mentioned I'm married. Let me tell you how things have progressed so far. Took some junk to the township/village garage for all town clean up. THAT only took about 30 minutes to gather, load, travel clear across town, chit chat and return. Then came home to go to SIL for nephews grad party. Just pop in to say congrats and give card (yes a card. Not my idea) she said. Anyway as we were pulling out of the drive Brenda says "we need to go to Wal-mart to get some cards" Ugh. OK that's were we go. After all how long can it take to get 3 cards. (three grads this week). Guess what, she reads all the cards. Not just tyhe one she buys, but all. Then she decides when we are there that since Thursday is Missy's birthday, 4 years old she'll be, we need to get her gift today. Though we didn't get her a gift we did spend 45 minutes!!!! looking for a party hat. A PARTY HAT!! For a DOG!!!!! Needless to say we found neither the party hat, the Frosty Paws doggy ice cream (they were out we found out after another 15 minute search, then ask, then the employee search for the stuff), nor the gift. We finally remove ourselves from the store and I do not even mention going to Lowe's or Menard's for some plaster. I figured she would not want to wait in the car and there isn't enough time left in my life for her to enter another store with stuff for her to look at. It's a good thing I love the woman or......., well, I don't know. To top it all off, it's sprinkling and wouldn't you know, my headaches back.
Oh well, I did taste some pretty good BBQ sauce and had some so-so buttercake. Now I shall throw abandon to the wind and zip past her to the basement and spend some time in Toddland (of which I'm king) I've decided to not place a bridge to the tourist trap town over the tracks leaving Gold Creek. Instead just a normal crossing and to use the bridge on the otherside of Gold Creek heading out into the wall. Er... I mean the country. The bridge would be too tall for the area and besides, not very prototypical at all for the terrain. The other side the tracks are lower than the road level so this type of bridge is more prototypical for the terrain. I know, I know, you're starting to hear the word prototypical coming from me more often, but don't worry, I'll be doing enough non-proto stuff to more than make up for it.
Oh, G- I decided not to wait, just had a little chat with Him and put in a request for you.
Does that mean you have painted over the WEATHERING?

Todd.. lol.. "YOU NEVER EXPECT THE SPANISH INQUISITION!!!! " lol.. thats Monty Python.. I'd know it anywhere.
Some of you peeps give me a good belly laugh. I should say something like that to Jeanne~
Now Chris.. getting back to Morse Code .. let me see.. you said.. in Morse WX ..? CB radio was for me.. never ham.. but I thought you were going to say something along the lines of a..
Dash dash dot dash ... DASH is Q T .. for a cutie going by~
For those of you who caught my Robert Frost Poem.. and Charles Kuralt .. well it lead me to check into Charles Kuralt on DVD. Well, yep.. went out and bought it. Charles Kuralt, 'On the Road'
My favorite electronic store sells it for under $30
Why am I telling you this?
If you really wanted to look for real.. and I mean real Americana~ in terms of model railroading and proto-typical, this would be it.
I can't believe the first disk, aside from what a thrill to re-visit an old friend from 70's/80's television.. this man traveled off the main stream roads of America, seeking out .. how did I put it.. when you heard this man speak "..you felt the warmth of being an American". If you want a good laugh.. a wholesome feeling.. I'll try to explain it. But it does have some extremely nice ideas concerning real life buildings, old signs painted brick buildings to Steam engines, diesel engines, Le Heigh Black Diamond privately owned railroad cars. A man in a small town that fixes bikes for kids, and they can all have a bike.. check it out/check it in .. just like a library. An 80 year old woman that fixes meals for others..and charges $2.00.
Well worth the money and certainly off the beaten path.
Now for you Lurkers out there.. I'm gonna give you a "Rivet Call" Yes.. this is your chance to be a member of Elliot's Diner. Yes.. yes.. thats right.. I know your are out there.. you've had this missing feeling in your hearts.. you want to be a part of the family, this is one of that missing part you've wanted so much. So come up to the Rivet Counter.. and have a seat here... yes.. come.. welcome.. hi,.. nice to see you.. its not too late.. anymore?... yes. I see one more in the back.. yes. come~ All of you are welcomed here at the Diner .. wonderful.
Have a seat at the Rivot Counter.. hmm. usually reserved for those who post here with a pic. But this is your willingness to be a regular at the Diner.
Those wishing to be a member of the Elliot's Diner repeat after me!
( *Gestures a 'Thumbs up' motion) and states)
"Your in!"
lol.. woot! Now I want you all to post something nice.. where ya from... 'Originally'.. and feel free to sit and talk while you dine. Although~ ... to sit at the rivet counter, is a plus, reserved for those who post pics here. So lets hear from ya.!
Blazzin Dash dash dot dash ... DASH is Q T .. for a cutie going by~
BlazzinNow Chris.. getting back to Morse Code .. let me see.. you said.. in Morse WX ..?
Correct. A Navy meteorologist by the name of Conrad Johnson joined the staff of WMT-TV and Radio in Cedar Rapids in the 50s or early 60s. He was also a ham radio operator. He recorded a sounding of WX WX WX WX as an alert to be used prior to the reading of a severe weather bulletin. "WX" = weather. Conrad retired in the 80s and died in the early 90s. WMT Radio (600 AM) still uses his WX.The TV side was sold many times over the past 2 decades...
All THAT is why I said we hear it a LOT some days, in Eastern Iowa...
I've made just a lovely discovery...one THAT has me on the verge of putting my fist through the wall... Somebody has gotten ahold of my debit card number...and is on a spending spree. Guess I'll be calling the credit union first thing in the morning, naturally no "after hours" or "24 hour service" availible...or if it is, they sure as hell don't have it listed on their website or statements!!! This is especially wonderful as tomorrow I should find out for sure what broke on my truck...and how much it will cost.
Of course, all of this occurred within a half-day of Loving Wife saying our finances are "much better" than they were five years ago...like we're making some kind of positive progress or something.
I think it's going to be a very, very, very crappy week...
Chris
The Cedar cRapids Industrial Branch: Proudly Shipping Yesterday's CrunchBerries Tomorrow!
Der John and Todd.. and others~ .Concerning HO buidlings.. and its uses in a N scale layout. And lets try to shine some light on a very dark corner here.
First of all.. the negative. Have you ever looked at where Nova Scotia is? It can't be by land, its still frozen this time of year and if it was by land . lol.. it would be the long way. By sea.. or by air. The cost of mailing something from there .. well is 'priceless'.. lol. escecially if you have to mail it back.
The bright side of it.. I foresee using HO buildings on my N scale layout.. and only a few.. less than 3.. that are HO.
But to look at the spectrum of N scale buildings, signs, lamposts, streelights... the list goes on~ Pheisher (how ever you spell it) people verses Woodland scenics people and other brands. They are NOT all the same size. I look at the whole spectrum of each building and consider which part of the 'Normal N scale' range it falls in.. and try to look at each one.. well... as having their own desire and uses to be placed on the layout to give that 'Forced Perspective'
IN the pic.. you'll see... there are two buildings. The one on the left (brown/black) is an N scale.. and the one on the right (tin shed) is HO.
Its really a nice toolshop.. it was listed as part of a N scale layout.. and I could see why.. there was a thin line between the HO building and N scale. Looking at it.. extremely well built to the max as far as detail... how could I not want it.. and found a nice place for it, up front where you can see it and look into it. The building on the left is N scale.. but is such a towering buidling.. it just takes up space.. looking big.. well bigger than this pic. if I see this right. Side by side.. one dwarfs the other. Not too mention I plan on drarfing things with larger than 'normal N scale' trees. (lodge pole trees)
. The other house Jeanne and I lived in.. was in the woods with 100 foot pines swaying in the wind.. so no.. its not out of the normal for us to visualize large trees.
"Blessed are the flexible, for they shall never break"
