His horn went beep beep beep.

You need to hear my horn! It'll scare you outta a couple of years of growth. Even my nephew can hear it with his stereo going full blast. I'm sure all that he's pushing is showing up on some seismograph somewhere.

I been out power sanding the rust spots on the van. I forgot how much work that is but it's fun too. So far I haven't a single Bondo spot and only one small rust through in a non-structural area.

THAT's Loving Wife's hope for "the mother of all garage sales" next month. IF'n we garner THAT much... 1K automatically goes to the non-existent "emergency fund" per Dave Ramsey's plan. Whatever's left after THAT we'd either split or put into the truck fund. Always something needing money more than the RR....Disapprove

As it is, the truck fund, which was to go toward a tie rod end and wheel bearings...instead is going to something more urgent: I think I lost the timing belt yesterday., She died on me a mere 6 miles from a Ford shop. The wrench-turners won't get to her until Monday (4 other vehicles blew up yesterday ahead of mine). I've had one go before, and it was painful but "affordable." We be crossin' the fingers no engine damage was done this time. IF only the belt, the truck fund and some grocery money will cover it. Gonna be Raman Noodles for awhile though...DinnerDead

Always something needing money more than the RR...

Loving Wife is out and about, hopefully she remembers to grab some Absorbine Jr., which I discovered does a magnificent job of keeping gnats and other flying pests away! The CRP ground/pasture/mass of land formerly called "the yard" has GOT to be mowed today (rain in tomorrow's forecast). BUT, I can't touch it without something to ward-off the insects. It's durn-near impossible to mow and swat away a bazillion little bugs at the same time.

Spent time in the RR room today, but it was cogitation time only. Based on the successful installation of benchwork along one wall a few weeks ago, I'm scouting out what I need for the next run along the longest wall. Seems I'll end up with a gap of about 9 inches between the south wall's run and the east wall's run. Naturally, the gap falls in front of one of my problematic windows. Banged Head However, I've got an ideer engineered THAT I *think* will solve the problem, and still provide structural strength.Approve

Next RR room purchase will be the plywood for the run along the north wall however. It'll be easier to install THAT before I put in the east wall's run of framing.

All of THAT is on indefinite hold...again...Disapprove Hey, it only took 5 years to get the current four frames up...

Always something needing money more than the RR...

Hey Buddy, how do I get this car out of second gear?

Who me?  Well I guess I did.... Chloe, cheeseburger with fries and a Dr. Pepper for lunch.

"The horn went beep, beep Beep!"

True story.  When I was in high school way back in the middle of the last century, our family car was a 1959 Rambler American station wagon.  The summer between my junior and senior year in HS I took Driver's Ed.  I already had my drivers license and had been driving cars, trucks, and farm tractors since I was about 5 years old (Ford 8n, one month before I turned 5 to be exact.).  During class the teacher mentioned that we should ever have to drive an old fashioned standard shift, never drive it over 5 mph in first gear.  I raised my hand and told him I could get 50 out of first gear in the Rambler with the 60 HP flathead 6.  He said, "No way in %*!! was that possible".  So I bet him a $10 bill I could.  Later in the morning when my group went out for our driving experience we all piled into my dad's Rambler and headed up North Main St.  Got to the stop light, turned green, I put her in first gear, peddle to the floor and walk it up to 50 mph just as nice as can be........Big Smile  His wallet came out and I became $10 richer along with getting a lecture about doing 50 in a 30 MPH zone.........

"And now we're doing a hundred and twenty as fast as I could go....."

Strong coffee in a AT&SF mug and please keep the pot nearby. Thanks!

***Barry, that's one he// of a garage sale. You lucky bast___ you.CoolThumbs Up Congrats! Soooo, what all are you going to aquire in the MRR dept with the proceeds?

Been thinking of how to convert my rolling stock to kuckle style couplers. Perhaps buying mostly Atlas Trainman cars and either swaping out trucks with my current rolling stock and then selling off extra cars with Rapido couplers on the-bay would come just as close (cost wise) to buying separate trucks for old cars. That is assuming all the undercarriage plugs fit.

Still toying with the idea of converting my wife's HO layout to DCC. I just don't want to create any headaches and she really wants to keep everything as simple as possible.

Here's a pic of the mini pond (if I can get it to upload). Looksmore contrasty than it is in person. Reeds are made from a cinnamon broom, so the train room smells good now. Oh, that is one of the roaming cows, so don't mind the colored base. Next time one of us is in the train room, it will have changed locations anyway.Whistling

Cheers! Rob

If you guys would be so kind as to save all of your Root Beer and Licorice for me.  They are two of my most favorite things either separately or together.   Just don't understand your not liking them..

Jeff do keep us posted on that Paint Job.   You should have a stuffed figure (mannequin) in engineers coveralls and cap,  leaning out the right side window with his hand on the throttle. (sign below window) "Casey Jones". "L&A"

Ray, hope the tiller starts for you .Confused

Garry, really glad to hear you stayed dry. My deepest thoughts and prayers for you family in the City.

Jerry,  I plan on trying to make some of those trees while we are at the campground this summer.   You did a great job there.

To all our High Schoolers,  good luck on all those final exams. Make the most of it. You are a long time out of school even though you never stop learning.

We are now half way through May, and I can't wait for June. Things have just got to get better. Went to turn over the flower beds with my little "RotoTiller" at the beginning of the month, only to lose the engine. Okay, went out shopping and got a good deal on a new one. Next, my Canon digital camera went belly up. Sure, just when the weather is getting nice for railfanning. Then about two weeks ago, my computer got infected with a really nasty virus. It is going to take someone with a lot of ability to clean it up. Called Dell and ordered a new laptop. It was delivered a couple of days ago and everything went well getting my software and files installed. Then this morning, no internet. What the ****, it worked last night. Looked like the modem might be the problem as all the lights were not on. Pulled all plugs and cables and reinstalled them. No help. Next I called the cable company and they had me try a couple of things. Then he said he was going to reset the modem from there and would call me back. That did the trick and I was back on line. Well, it's a nice day here in Pittsburgh and the grass needed cut. Guess whose lawnmower wouldn't start. After about 30 minutes and a lot of frustration, it finally started. It's running good and no trouble starting it now. I have no idea what the problem was. Anybody know where I can buy a virgin to offer up as a sacrifice.

I got the problem areas primed and most of the first coat of gloss white on before the rain started. I', using a fast drying paint from Valspar so it shouldn't be much of a problem. If there is a problem I can sand the area(s) and repaint the location(s). I have to get more paint also, at least ten more cans of white and black both. On the white I still have most of the drivers door and some of the area around the windshield. As for the roof I'll get someone to go up top and paint it a light color. I haven't even started on the black yet. There's more area to cover with it but it won't have to be as heavy as it's much darker, to say the least.

Hello. All town garage sale's over and the yard's mowed. We did not participate, nor did I even shop around because....., the yard needed mowed (HD ya know. Just as well, I need to get rid of stuff, not get more.) Now, it needs baled. The Rhubarb needs pulled and the sticks need hauled to the burn pile. Something else too. Oh well it'll come to me.

 Evenin' folks!

Flo I'll have the BBQ Chicken with salt potatoes and Asparagus. Oh, and a cup of decafe to wsh it down with.....

I'll go sit in the front booth and watch all the neighbors mow their lawns.

Well, I got my lawn mowed, the fence taken down in the garden, used the weed whacker to shorten the weeds in anticipation of tilling the garden for the year.  I also changed the oil in the old rototiller, put new oil in, filled the gas tank, and she started up on the 4th. pull.  Hopefully tomorrow before I head out to my Grand Niece's first birthday party I will give the garden the once over.  Monday I will take the truck over to a Mennonite Landscaping business nearby and buy a dozen or so big bags of cow manure.  Till THAT in put up the fence again and start planting.

I also got several wheelbarrows full of wood to split for the fuel for next winter from one of the neighbors today.  I am plain tucked out!

The insides in pretty fair shape with the exception of the front seats (nothing a set of seat covers can't fix) It's got two captains chairs in the back, a bench seat that folds down into a bed and a mini wet bar. I already checked, my nephew didn't leave even as much as a wine cooler in it. It has a 15 amp plug on the outside for hookup to electrical service so 110 volt appliances can be used inside. It used to have a 12v/110v bar fridge but that broke. It has cup holders built in front and back as well as a small table. One thing I'm happy to see. NO SHOULDER BELTS! Those things irritate me.

Good evening Diners: A lobster with hot potoato salad (curried, naturally!) with a side of peas and mint, thanks Chuck

Keith:

throughout all time .. well of your life time.. what is the one .. Top Billboard sign you can think of.
Without hesitation, the Heineken Beer Board we saw on a trip to t he UK some years back now. Two Panels. First - Spock with ears all droopy down to his shoulders. Second - Spock with ears alert and normal. Caption Heineken - Refreshes where other beers can't reach! (or words to that effect)
Der John.. wow.. I think you hit a sore spot with me.. when you mentioned EBAY.  For years we've had ebay and afterwhile, that sort of thing really gets to me.  An easy 500 wins.. from bikes to swords.  Why?  Because.. well several reasons.

First, you already paid shipping .. once.

Second, you'll have to pay shipping again, and if not you'll still out some money on the original shipping... because of his/her mistake.

...THAT, although it's not "fair" is something I admit I have to suck up, and so I've decided to just turn around and re-sell.  The shipping is more than I paid for the building in the first place - it was a great deal - another reason I took the bait. Who knows, perhaps I'll luck out and come up smelling rose-like. Clown
Although, some sellers will put the dimensions on the listing just in case.. and if you didn't actually take that into consideration.. well that's .. partially your fault for NOT taking notice.
...His reply says that he listed it as N Scale "because it came from a N Scale layout"  He also gave the actual dimensions, so that's another factor in my deciding to move on. This was an "in haste" transaction as I came across the item in its last 25 minutes, and concentrated on getting a shipping rate from him. However, I did carefully check the photo against my built version of the MP kit (MP#1524) to see that it was indeed a MP Malden Station; which it was. On that basis, and the listing being very clearly N Scale I placed my bid. Act in haste, repent at leisure, isn't that the saying?
I have also taken into consideration.... Is this a beginner seller.. or a seasoned seller that should know better.
...in this case, I'd say seasoned. Business Name M & W Internet Auctions ....and he says in his blurb he deals with many mrr items.
But my only real issue.. and it just happens to be Ebay's issue, Is the item exactly described?  Does the photo match the item you received?  I've actually had a photo taken down..after I bought the item and paid for right then.. only to have the photo taken down within 50 mins.. then it was used on another item... selling another (katana sword) using the same picture.  I notified ebay of a 'Bait and Switch' then.. and when I received the sword .. well sure enough I got some old one.. and it wasn't like the pic I had saved.

How would you like to bid lets say on a MR building?  You think you won a building but its a kit.  No where on the listing does it say Kit.  This happened to a friend of mine I've met through the forum here.  Now this person ate the money.. and just plainly gave the seller a big fat Neg Feedback.  Why..?

No, in this case the photos were of the item, without a doubt. It's just that as an auction house who regularly, on their own admission sell MRR stuff
My Policies:

ALL ITEMS WE SELL ARE OFFERED AS IS. STATED CONDITION OF ITEM IS BASED ON COSMETIC APPEARANCE. ALL ITEMS WE OFFER FOR SALE ARE FROM COLLECTIONS OR HOBBY SHOP CLOSE-OUTS. WE SELL NO ITEMS DIRECT FROM MANUFACTURER. THERFORE ITEMS DESCRIBED AS NEW ARE IN OUR OPINION UNUSED. ITEM HAS NOT BEEN TESTED UNLESS OTHERWISE STATED IN THE DESCRIPTION.

they should have been able to judge that this was a HO item, even if it came from a N Scale layout.
A seasoned seller.. he should have known better.  But case in point here.  My friend only wanted a simple..

  "I'm am sorry"

Working in a hospital.. a very high profile hospital.. we had to have special classes of "Taking Ownership of the Problem"  Better than half of the problems that arose would be taken care of by just the use of the words.. "I am so sorry, lets take care of this."  "This is my mistake.. I am truly sorry"

Well the seller replied.. "Just send it back"  as if there's no problem.  Never mentioned it was his mistake.. or that you will be out at least one of the shipping charges.. the full refund.. does not include shpping both ways... and yes.. ebay refunds money.. but all my friend wanted was a simple "I'm sorry"

Did I even mention the hassle of returning something?  Packing it back up, going to the post office?

Yeah, a "Sorry" would be nice - I'm going over to my email to see if anything like that has come in...I rather doubt it. (It hadn't by 10:20 pm Saturday - but then perhaps he's sensibly taking the weekend off!)

On the Root Beer, big YES, on the Licorice Jelly beans, we have to part ways - you and Ulrich in one camp, the rest of civilization in the other LOL.

Sawyer:

kicked the ball on a roll just behind midfield, so the thing traveled over half a field, looked like it was going to go maybe 30 feet over and past the goal, but the wind was so fierce it shot the ball almost straight down into the net. I was PHYSCHED!!!!!!!!!! always wanted to do that and got my chance :[D]

In Elementary / Junior High (different system in UK, so that's as close as I can translate) our school once played a home match in thick fog. How thick you ask? Our goalie took the ball down-field and scored! ...and No, it wasn't me. Mischief

Ray: I see Chris has made sure you won't lose THAT song in a hurry! Tongue - BTW, caught your  G&S reference back around Page 12-13. Just before I went AWOL. IIRC, could it be "Well hardly ever" ?

When I was in high school way back in the middle of the last century, our family car was a 1959 Rambler American station wagon.  The summer between my junior and senior year in HS I took Driver's Ed.  I already had my drivers license and had been driving cars, trucks, and farm tractors since I was about 5 years old (Ford 8n, one month before I turned 5 to be exact.).  During class the teacher mentioned that we should ever have to drive an old fashioned standard shift,......
It's precisely that lack of familiarity on the part of those likely to steal vehicles ( at any rate at the casual level) which makes, IMHO, the stick shift one of the best anti-theft devices out there! Not only are the thieves stymied, but selling on is much less liquid.

Rob: Great pond, nice tree (coo, I sound like Worf LOL) - and I see other agree!

Murphy-the-Gardener showed up today.  We transplanted a purple leafed Nine-Bark last Fall. It didn't seem to have survived the winter in its new location - just a bunch of hard, dead feeling dry twigs. So, last week we were up near a Garden Centre and bought a Forsythia as a replacement.  Went to plant it this afternoon. Lo and Behold, the Nine-Bark is starting to bud out!  Anyway, we replaced it, and decided to keep the Nine-Bark in a new "new location" - to replace some straggly half dead wild roses. THAT involved digging them out, moving a decorative chunk of Quartz , re-planting the viable roots of the roses next to their next nearest neighbours, and popping in the Nine-Bark. The Quartz now will act as a visible and physical defense against that part of the driveway edge being over-run by me, or the oil truck.  Ask me again why so little mrr has gone on lately....Banged Head

Just had a bit of a scare. For the first time in my life I've had to use Ctrl+Alt+Del. I was in an Excel worksheet trying to make a graph for Kris. (I've done this several times before on older versions, but Excel 2007 isn't as transparent - at least not to me.) So I enter a Formula - and Excel claims there is an error, and won't let me close out when I can't fix it! The Help Pop-up says to use Ctlr+Alt+Del if all their other sugestions don't work - which they didn't. The urban myth running in my mind is that Ctrl+ Alt+ Del re-formats the Hard Drive...so I'm a bit reluctantDead However, the Help thingy at this point says it will give me some choices leading to End Task - which in fact proved to be the case - or I wouldn't be writing this!Shock

Time to close out here, while I'm "ahead" so to speak.   Ulrich I hope your back heals up fast you don't need that on top of everything else, and it's good to hear your mother's fluid levels are normalizing.  Goodnight all, and God Bless. Prayers for all in need of Healing, Comfort, prosperity and Peace...and that includes the people of Thailand right now - not a happy situation.Angel

Ya know, with reading these 'car' stories and the little tid bits of songs, it reminds me of one of my favorite songs by The Eagles - Ol' 55

Hunter - When we met in January of 2000, you were just a 6 week old pup who walked his way into this heart of mine as the only runt in the litter who would come over to me. And today, I sit here and tell you I am sorry we had to put you down. It was the best thing for you and also the right thing to do. May you now rest in peace and comfort. Love, Dad. 8 June 2010

I love you and miss you Mom. Say hi to everyone up there for me. Rest in peace and comfort. Love, John. 29 March 2017

Evenin' folks!

Just a cup of decafe and some ben-gay please.

I think I may have overdid a bit today......  Muscles and joints are talking back to me tonight.  Hope I can move tomorrow.......

IIRC, could it be "Well hardly ever" ?

Actually John, we are both off ever so slightly....

"Though related to a peer,
I can hand, reef, and steer,
And ship a selvagee;
I am never known to quail
At the fury of a gale,
And I'm never, never sick at sea!

What never?

No, never!

What never?

Hardly ever!"

I do believe I have heard with the "well" added though.  Most of the people in the diner are now wondering, HUH?  What are they talking about.  I do love subtle humor...WinkBig Smile  BTW, what ever happened to Tom???  He hasn't been in for lunch in a long time.  I have seen him a few times out in the big forum, but not in here lately.

My Favorite G & S is The Mikado as I played the part between my freshman and sophomore years at Eastman....

"My object all sublime, I shall succeed in time, To make the punishment fit the crime, the punishment fit the crime.... "

OK, OK, OK Flo, don't get Vinnie, I'll be quiet and go back to my booth.........

Have a great night everyone!

good evening ...

Jeff ... Glad to here about the Midland Gulf's new 0-4-0 currently in the paint shop.

Todd ... ah, hah ... garage sales again?  Noted: no mention this time of any super deals on Woodland Scenics products for $10.00.  Are you slipping?

John Boy ... thanks for the concern and the remarks. We have tons of driftwood and debris on our shore from the flood. It'll make some bon fire!

Rob ... I really like your scene. Looks great!

Ray ... I remember when Ramblers were common. Never heard of one going 50 mph in first gear. Back then I did not know you, however.

Chris ... I recall the Nash Rambler "beep beep" song, too. Much better than that rap garbage of today. There were a lot of car songs. What about the GTO song? Compatetion Coupe? Little Old Lady from Pasadena?

Der John ... The Rail Link paint sceme looks sharp. Will you be weathering that Geep?

Did I hear "Strayberry Rhubarb pie? .... mmmm.... That was Dick's specialty in prior years. He's not in the diner this evening.

Barry ... I hope you are taking care of yourself. Surely you would not think of mowing the lawn would you?

JimCG ... You must be really busy since you got back. You're not here much. Perhaps, Flo locked the end dorr to keep you out.

Chuck ,, ,What's the story about your shoulder? Hope it gets better.

Where is PC? Cal Tom, too?

PS ... Speaking of old cars. Who remembers the 1951 Studebaker Commander?

Garry- No, I didn't walk the garage sales. I wanted too after the score of the year, at least for me, but,  I mowed and with the tall grass and the rest of the yard stuff I'd put off all last week because of the headache business, I opted to do what I should do instead of what I wanted.

Tomorrow aside from Church and a brief stop at the SIL house for a college graduation cook out for her son, it's TRAIN TIME!!!!!!!!

Prayers for those in need. (Little GTOOOOOO, she's really looking fiiiiine, something something and a four speeeeed, and a 389...... da da da da da da da daaaaa.... yea yea yea yea yea yea yea. (brump) My four speed dual quad positraction GTO. Wa waaaaaa wa wa wa wa wa waaaa.....)Leaves whistling because can't remember the words anymore.

Well Garry, I don't know about PC or CalTom but I'm still kicking or at least alive.

I was away all of last week on a business trip to B.C. I sure find those trips tiring now even though I didn't have to drive to the towns I had to visit, our rep out there did that. Staying in different hotels every night and always dealing with negative situations just seems to get me down. I met with a fellow who is my age and last year he bought a business that took everything he had plus a large loan. He is working 7 days a week, 10 hours a day and I would be very surprised if his business survives and I expect I will have to tell him that next year. Oh well, enough of my complaining.

Came home to some wonderful weather here. It is sunny and supposed to stay that way all next week with temps of about 80F. Hopefully we can get some yard work done. For some strange reason all the grass in our back yard died last winter. I hope that new stuff they advertise that will grow grass on concrete works or we are looking at re-sodding our back yard. Thankfully we don't have a large lawn out there.

Nothing happening on my RR front. I put together a passenger train 2 weeks ago and it hasn't left the station, nor will it for at least another week. Luckily the passengers waiting on the platform are glued in place otherwise they'd be looking for alternate transport.

Hope everyone is feeling OK,

CN Charlie

Anybody remember the one about bad drivers? "Transfusion" by Nervous Norvus!!

Who could forget this?

Transfusion transfusion
My red corpuscles are in mass confusion
Never never never gonna speed again
Pass the crimson to me Jimson

Or this little excerpt:

Oh doc pardon me for this crazy intrusion
I'm never never never gonna speed again
Pump the fluid in me Louie

This one's pretty good too...

Transfusion transfusion
Oh nurse I'm gonna make a new resolution
I'm never never never gonna speed again
Put a gallon in me Alan

For some reason THAT "car song" has always stuck in my head...

Have a good-un, and hey...let's be particularly careful out there...
