Down here in the south the inspectors don't check things like that, and even it they did as long as it's completely sealed off from the passenger compartment it's allowed. Hot rodders and antique car buffs do it all the time with fuel cells and adapted tanks. State inspections here consist of checking the headlights, taillights, turn signals, tires, horn and glancing underneath to see if there's a catalytic converter.
Now as for a stupid law or two, in this state it's illegal to gargle in public places. Can you believe that? Wanna get ten years behind bars? Steal an alligator. There are a bunch of others that are real beauties but I'm definitely NOT going there.

Is that moss, or some other plant? We get moss on older roofs, but not in the quantities apparent in your scenes. Difference in climate perhaps. Neat sign on your door BTW

What did I get at the LHS? Not much, a used turnout for the replacement project in my lower level tunnel passing siding; but did score a free one that has to have a running rail glued back in place, and this built up for $7 at the second best LHS on the way home. It's going in my city scene somewhere around here.
Need to get some rest - the mowing took all afternoon because the riding mower's battery isn't holding its charge, and I started in with the push mower while the charger did its thing on the riding mower. Finally got THAT going once about 80% of the mowing had been hand done. Grrrr. What's annoying about this is the battery is not old, and I wintered it over in the basement rather than just leaving it in the machine in the garage, The original equipment one lasted about 7-8 years before quitting, not house wintered at all! Anyway, it's all mowed now, and looks the better for it.

Finally have something to report on:
Wired LED's for 11 of the wife's city buildings. Then I discovered several of those buildings have floors in them, so only the bases are lit. Will drill holes and add extra LED's for the upper floors another day.
Also set the white picket fence around the church grounds and laid grey gravel down. BTW, my wife plans to have the preacher holding a pair of snakes at the church door with parishioners fleeing out into the parking lot. I think the Tent Revival taking place in town here had something to do with her decision. She still wants a picnic on the grounds behind the church, so not everyone will be upset.

Good evening. All is well. Thanks for the well wishes for Mom and Anthony. He is doing deceptively well. Acts like is old little self again. Hopefully Monday the surgery will go well and it will be the beginning of the end of his problems. Mom however, I'm afraid is not doing well. Healthwise her heart is good and everything, but she is now starting to have blackout spells. They are going to try and figure that out. Her shoulder may have a hairline fracture or severe bruising or as Chris( I think) said, a torn cuff or soemthing. The doctors say there is something that's wrong though not serious, just painful. What worries me is her attitude. I can't explain it. It just concerns me. The look in her eyes is not the same.
Garry- the trial is still on and now with the latest developments, I'm told the charges will be amended and not in his favor.
High note and train related, while visiting Anthony he heard a train horn and we went to the window to watch the "choo-choo". The hospital is about a half block from the Norfolk Southern lines with nothing but a parking lot btween them so, had a great view of a long roadrailer. I guess they're called. And shortly later a mixed freight. Well, actually the roadrailer was a mixed freight I guess, after all the roadrailers it did have a few boxcars and a hopper or two. Would tell you what the locos was, but you know me, can't tell an AC6000 from an 8-40cw. Kind of a treat too I don't get to see much variation in trains as the UP line that runs through Williamsville mostly carries covered hoppers, a few box cars a gondola once in a blue moon and if you're real lucky you might catch some kind of tank cars ever so often. Of course I can always count on an exciting Amtrak.

It's quiet tonight. Oh, just noticed the time here. That could explain it.
Been thinking about adding a new steamer (or two) to the N scale roster and parting with a few as well. Choices are as follows:
1) Bachmann Heavy Mountain. Probably asked before, but don't recall. Anyone have any experience with these?
2) Kato Mike. I still have the original version with all the loose fiddly parts and have just discovered the bell is missing after that hobby store had it. Gurrrr! Plan to sell it on the-bay & put funds towards one already assembled.
3) Kato GS-4 Wartime. (Have the Daylight version and LOVE IT. Thought the wartime scheme could be put to work at other times or double headed with the pretty one.
4) LifeLike Mallet. Have heard only rave reviews of these. Suppose to sound better than the Athearn articulated beasts. I have the Bigboy and it's a mighty pretty loco. The sound is a bit lacking though. Then again, do I really need another larger loco anyway?
Depending how much stuff I decide to sell on the-bay (and then add a little more to that total), figure I might acquire 2 of those first three options or just the one Mallet. Thoughts?

Good morning all and Happy Pentecost Sunday to those of you who care. Happy Sunday to those of you who don't. Suppose to be a wonderful sunshiny day today. Oh slight possibility of a stray thunderstorm, but mostly clear and sunshine high of 91. I will mow today. The windows are still open and the cool breeze so far is not making the wife ask how hot it is every 2 minutes and 17 seconds. I think we will make it through the day, then depending on how well the house cools tonight we may make it through tomorrow, again 91 degrees without the air. After that, it cools to the 80's. That is manageable, but the sunny 90's get a bit warm for just the windows open. Of course the basement is cool and you know what's down there don't you!!!????

I attended an operations session with our local MR group. Since it was my first time, I was paired with someone with more experience. The hardest part was learning digitrax (we have MRC). We used switch lists with a fast clock. The dispatcher controlled the turnouts on the mainline by computer.

Below shows some of my present track laying. I am show it so you can see I use push pins to get the track in position before nailing it down. I have rulers and home-made curve templates nearby to get it ligned up. Rail must be cut precisely so you do not have unwanted gaps. I paint the track first with a blend of black, brown, mineral red, and tan. Paint on rail heads will need to be cleaned off later.
The cork roadbed was installed first using a staple gun. I used a hmmer on each staple to make sur it does not protrude upward and interfere with track installation.

aPPARently, I forgot that there is about a half dozen kids graduating High School today we needed to go see. Needless to say, after church, I got nothing done. Now I'm debating on changing clothes and mowing like I should, ooooooor....., taking a short nap and forgetting about the yard until tomorrow and heading down stairs to apply some cardboard strips.
Rob- Generally the windows are open at night when the weather gets warm. However the last several days have not been so warm that the house heated up and in the evening just the bedroom windows were cracked for the fan to draw in a bit. So, silly me, I did not open the windows in the rest of the house last night, so the house didn't get a chance to cool down to outside temp of 68 and the temps this morning rose quickly. We have several fans running and there is a breeze running through the windows, but I'll have to admit the temp (91) and the humidity make it a bit stuffy. The wind is picking up some so the breeze is going good. Tomorrow should be better because the windows will be open all night. Of course the basements nice and cool.
I'll check in later and let you know what my decision was. Wo*k or play.

Last time I saw her, it would be last Sunday, she was worried about her mother. Now today she tells me that, while her mother isn't a whole lot better, her sister was diagnosed with ovarian cancer during the week, operation soon, but no date set. Sister's name is Donna, for those given to praying.
Rob: You said a page or so ago that you had a steam loco missing a bell (N Scale). Well...remember I said I'd taken a house off its plastic lawn base? Guess what one of the things stuck to that base was? A pole with this on the top. Of no discernable use to me, but if its of use to you (I'm sure you can free it from that strange ring thing, leaving enough to look somewhat like a loco bell when suitably painted.), send me your address!

JEFF, I'm really not sold on your fuel cell experiment. There are lots of vehicles like yours out there as well as after market tanks. You might have to go further afield but you can come up with one. Get on to E-bay and do some searching. We'll all feel much better for your safety than having that cell riding shotgun with you.

We were so looking forward to going to the lake this week-end to open up the trailer for the year. However as it is so often with long week-ends it was raining Friday evening and all day Saturday, but we did finally get out there for a few hours this afternoon, got the yard cleaned up, batteries into the trailer, flushed out the antifreeze out of the water system and loaded it with fresh water. Stocked the shelves with lots of grub and the fridge with some frozen items. Wife cleaned all the cupboards and rearranged things. Then we went to a birthday party for a neighbor of ours at the campground, so all in all, the week-end wasn't a total loss.
Planning on sitting in the Jacuzzi for 1/2 an hour and then get some ZZZZzzzzssss. back to work in the morning and for the next seven days with only Friday off.
Good to see Sue back in again. It certainly has been a while. She always adds a nice touch to the place. Please come back more often Sue. You are sure easier to look at than some of the old boots that are regulars here. Lol.
Hard to believe there is only a week of May left. Time is sure going quick lately.

Well I'm back again...First to all those in need they will be added to prayer list!!! Cut the front yard and got a cubic yard of grass,I know I bailed and measured it,someware around 40lbs. Had to double up on pain pills,took 3 days and the front is only 50 by 100 feet,not since last year before Thanksgiving was it cut...58 degrees 10-25 mph southwest (off the ocean ),,,,rain;sun;rain;sun; ad nausem....all day. Finished the 1st coat of paint on mtns. Change colors and started on sea ,all around the cove was painted the same as rocks about 1-2 inches with rocks that look to have fallen off the sides ;painted the cove black in cntr.then added a dark green mixing it with the black at the edges now I'm starting to use a dark blue at next edge and all around the piers and some thrown in the cntr. now is the time to let it set and paricually dry (LOUSY SPELLER NO SEC.)she died in Oct. Have to find a new one...LOL......Looking for an SP&S coffee mug for home......Fair Winds and Following Seas.......chuck

There have been some pretty impressive pics of real stuff and model stuff here lately. Great pics, guys. HAven't had a chance to say so. I think we will go out to eat this noon. We haven;t been out to eat since we bought the new Kia 2months ago. We usually spend $50 {if we are cheap and that includes tip} to $100 {if we are less cheap and that includes tip also} PER MONTH eating at our usual place, Denny's. If we are cheap we split an entree as that really is enough for both of us to fill on as restaurant serving sizes are usually soooooo oversized. I had surgery on my stomach and esophagus some years ago which left me half-sized stomach so I don't eat a full portion either. Other times, we both opt for different entrees and pay the full price for each. We cut that out as $100 is about half the price of the Kia payment, so out went dining out, even with a whole days worth of necessary shopping {food and household supplies} like we used to. I think we can splurge as othe half had a near to full 40 hour paycheck for this week, so we will treat ourselves. It also gets me out of cooking which is very hard on my back anymore. WE will see what the neurosurgeon has to say about THAT when I see him later next month. The garge sale I wanted to have is out as my back can't take it. I will see what I can give away to charity, *** few things in the paper for sale,and just throw some stuff out to get rid of it. MAybe someone will pick it up curbside. I went on a rampage last summer and threw out half the crap-shtuff on the enclosed front porch. Now it is full of cans and bottles to be returned. Hey, maybe we do that today too! PRoblem is, when you clear out a space of crapola-shtuff, it tends to get refilled with more crapola-shtuff you didn't know you had so you move it around, or collect more stuff. I have sworn off buying more stuff for hobby-type endeavors as I tend to loose interest. I won;t loose interest in trains, but will have to armchair it until we get a great model RR space with a house over it! I have closet of stuff packed so nicely in plastic storage binds filling one closet of shtuff I brought with me when I moved in with my other half 10 yearsago. I Do know of about maybe 10 things in those bins I would like to save, the rest I do not even remmeber what is there anymore. If I don't know I have it, then I don;t need it anymore as I havent used it/looked at it in about 8 years. Now watch me wax sentimental as I look again. But NOPE, I have made up my mind like the porch. The closet is packed full, I know. UNFORTUNENATELY THAT closet is in the train room, a room which we can barely get into now as it is, let alone get to the cram packed closet! I just hate to throw out stuff someone else can use, not necessarily to make lots of money on it. But with my other half working and my back out, it would be unrealistic to think about a garage sale now. Seriously. I envy Todd, I think it is, with the neighborhood garage sale and junk cleanout days. There is supposed to be a big roll-off dumpster during the summer for the trailer pasrk for such cleanout/cleanup for the summer but they have a nasty habbit of hiding it in some remote restricted area so they can SAY it is there, but you can;t get to it so it doesn;t get filled and cost them a lot to remove our crap. As some seem to have a problem with the idea of an internally mounted fuel tank I've put together this crude rendering (top view) to give you an idea of the design. The tank is contained withing two boxes that are both filled expanding foam and both boxes are sealed with the exception of a spill-off pipe. The tank itself is anchored to a metal framework secured by bolts that are anchored to anchoring points beneath the floor. The boxes surround the tank top, bottom, front, back and sides. A spill-off going through the bottom of the containment structure to a hole in the floor channels any spill-off to the outside of the vehicle. The tank is not exposed to the air in the vehicle (unlike my car where the tank is under the back seat and makes up part of the floor and also unlike my parent's car where the tank is behind the back seat with nothing between it and the back seat) but is instead sealed inside of a box filled with expanding foam which is sealed inside a second box also filled with expanding foam.

Rob, you asked about the BMan Heavy Mountain. Have you looked at N Scale Locomotive Encyclopedia? That is the site done by a guy called Spookshow, who reviews N scale locos. He says that engine is a really good one. He also said the Walthers 0-8-0 ran like a Swiss watch so I guess mine must have been made somewhere else or I got a poor one. He also doesn't think much of Model Power but I have 3 that run really well but are noisy.
Well I have to get busy as I have started the prep work to paint the bathroom. Lucky me.

Did a bit more on the Erie B2 Steamshovel last night. Getting close to the real "fun" part, rigging up all the lines on the machine......... THAT should be a bear to do!

***CNCharlie, Yes. He's an interesting fello and that is a very neat encyclopedia he's created. It's still good to get some other opinions, if for no other reason than to verify his findings. Seems my 0-8-0 was made by the Swiss. But like you, I also happen to like the MP locos very much. Mine run great. BTW, he's used a few of my photos and findings on some vintage Atlas locos. I felt honored to have donated to it.
Last night added some alcohol/elmers mix to the church grounds to further secure the gravel. Seems to have worked. Just need to build that picnic structure with concrete seets and then wife can start adding little folks to it.
