Evening, Chloe - Mmmm, is that cinnamon rolls I smell? Great, I'll have one with a CAW mug of decaf, please. Thanks!
blownout cylinderNah----I already know about what is going on. What they're trying to figure out is what happened!
Chris, as for the fascia (I think that was your question), at our MRR club meeting this past Monday night we started putting up fascia around the club layout. I think they're using masonite (it's been painted, but the flexibility and what I could tell of the thickness looked about that thickness. I'll get some pics (maybe this week, or at least by next Monday) and post them for you. And you do a pretty good weathercaster imitation there!
Robby, good to hear you picked up some hours with the car wash job. Hope you get the full-time position - a little more MRR'ing would be good.
Hey, Vincent, I wasn't clear in what I was talking about (again). I meant my professional licensure fees and process - in Missouri you pay sales taxes when you get the vehicle, plates, initial inspection, and then (I think it depends on your car's age or something) you renew every 1 or 2 years for more. One good thing, maybe about to change, is that for the first few (five, I think) years of a car's life, you don't have to get them inspected after the purchase payment, just get the plates (or those stickers with the new year of expiration on them). But your initial (and renewal) fees there sound higher.
Jeff, I'd agree with you - your day was not one of your best at all. Good that your pharmacist knows how to bump it up the ladder for you (Saved you going through the phone at the insurance jerk - I mean clerk (or do I?...)
Paul, if you want to post trackplan ideas, we've been getting some practice on giving suggestions lately, so feel free to post an idea or two (or scan in a sketch of what you have for now). Good that you have the Clark Gardens show coming up for a little MRR'ing fun.
Keith, nice shot of your 'Avalanche' town (at least, I'm sure they don't want any around them!). That's something about your Dad's El Camino (and about the accident with the 18-wheeler). I'm sure you have had a lot of special memories of your Dad today. On your maintenance questions, I'll pass it over to Bama, JR, Vincent or some others who know way more than I do about cars.
Ulrich - still have both you and Petra in my Keep at 'em, and you'll be getting there (or more accurately, over here on this side of the pond).
Got the storage tubs for the MRR stuff on the way home this evening, so I'll see (probably tomorrow) how much of the rest of my freight cars and kits will fit in those (plus passenger cars and locos). Have started fiddling with my track plan to see where the grade changes will need to be. THAT may take a couple or three days. I'll post something once I have it on the trackplan elevations and all.
Well, I suspect that I will likely be hitting the TOP, so let's see what happens when I post this... Prayers continue for comfort, healing, finances, and some good rest for the evening (whenever that is for your locale).
[Edit]: Yep, the midnight snacks and early breakfast is on me, Diners! Chloe, I'll settle up tomorrow - I'm heading back home for a nap, since I'm on-call tomorrow night. You all take care of yourselves in the meantime!
Blessings,
Jim in Cape Girardeau
Good evening ..
I'll have a slice of derby pie and a glass of milk.
Ulrich ... Go to sleep!
Keith .. I like that El Camino. Looks like a keeper!
Paul .. I bet you did not have a camera when teh Katy unit went by, but at least you saw it.
Jim CG ... White Wing Warrior ... How's that halo working out for you?
Dan & Gus were over today, and we were debugging the DCC wireless. Guess what. DCC was fine, but we found a coal hopper that was shorting out. It had old trucks and there was a short cicuit with resistance. It would not bother DC, but the DCC circuit breaker would go on and off. Drove me crazy. A loco would travel maybe 20 to 30 inches, and the system would cut out. We corrected the problem, and the DCC system is now OK. I will not be tempted to toss it into the lake for now.
Shelley and I have decided definately to find another church. The church sponsored group that helps people with problems is also seeking another home. In fact, I am working with the director of the group to find the next location. The old fuddy duddies in the old church can sit and be with themselves. I'm sure most other churches are willing to help needy folks in the county.

Garry, sorry to hear that there are several folks affected by things at the church. It's bad enough, but when there are multiple people/families involved, somebody isn't listening (who should be). Check your email, buddy.
JimRCGMOAnd you do a pretty good weathercaster imitation there!
I'll be looking for those layout fascia pics...but no hurry...I'm a long, long way from having to deal with THAT!
KEITH: Neat ride, and even neater memories... If it was me, I'd leave those ashes right where they sit. Like JIM, I'll defer on the fluids/maintenance issues to those much, much more veee-hicle savy than I!
SAWYER: Doggone it, there you go again making progress on your layout again!!! And it's looking good, as usual! Geesh!

Well y'all, its around 11 here and everyone else in my house has gone to study the back of their eyelids and check for light leaks. I'll be doing the same soon, just gettting some chicken leg quarters unthawed so's I can toss 'em in my marinaide for tomrrow night's supper. I think that I'll do a bowl of vanilla ice cream with some hot fudge and hot caramel drizzled over it.
Ulrich, sending thoughts, prayers, and dreams of wonderful little British steamers with coaches and carriages your way sir.
Garry, I am too, sorry to hear that you are moving churches, but I do wish y'all the best at finding a new home.
Keith, on the Elky. Gimme the VIN, I can tell you worlds of information about the car. As for the age, yes more than likely all the fluids (engine oil, trans fluid, antifreeze, differential gear oil, brake fluid, and power steering fluid) should be flushed and changed. Fresh oil, air, and transmission filters would also be mandantory. As far as other changes to make it completely road ready, a set of belts and hoses, and finally a good thorough tune-up (spark plugs, plug wires, distributor cap, rotor button, and fuel filter). Other than that, drive the snot out of it. As far as engines are concerned, more than likely it has a Chevrolet 305cid (5.0L for the metric people out there) small block V8. Easiest ways to find out what the engine is is to either count your spark plugs and/or plug wires, or look a the VIN number, should be on a metal plate riveted on the driver's side door post. The 4th digit should designate engine size, the engine codes are as follows:
2 code, 231cid, 3.8L V-6; A code, 231cid 3.8L V-6 (if IIRC the "A" code engine is actually a Buick powerplant and the "2" code is a Chevrolet-built engine); M code, 201cid, 3.3L V-6; H code, 305cid, 5.0L V-8; I code (that's an I, not an L) 267cid, 4.4L V-8, and finally if the 4th digit of the VIN is a L code, its a 350cid V-8. Another identifying feature is that with the exception of the 305 and the 350, all the other engines only have 2bbl (that's a 2 Barrel) carburetor. The 305 and 350 have 4bbls. Hope that I've been of some help to you on this one. As far as parts, any parts store should have what you're looking for and if you'd like for me to, I'd gladly get you some part numbers to make life easy (that's my job).
Ok....well, guess that's enough exuding of automotive knowledge for me, think I'm going to be heading off to bed now, my eyelids are getting a little droopy...
Good morning all,Ray, if possible I would start gathering loose rock material (if you can) from the quarry to be modeled. Having the real thing will make that area of your layout that more interesting. The quarries around here will sell you a 5 gallon bucket of screenings for $5. The Marblehead Quarry out here; the limestone is “marbled” having black veins in it but you go to the Sandusky quarry and it’s off white without veins. If I find the room I want to have a salt mine on the layout.Jim, I’ll look but I don’t think these have a Walther’s number on them. There are a few in the back of the Walther’s sale flyer, however they are unfinished metal. I think they were $5 for two machines.Jeff, sorry to hear about your troubles, hopefully things will fall back into some form of normalcy for you soon. My GF had her foot operated on a week ago but her hospital and insurance company is owned by the same people. Makes things a little easier; we got his and hers temporary handicap parking tags and a wheelchair. The chair should be here tomorrow. $32/month deductable on the wheel chair and the handicap parking tags were $3.50 each for the 3 months of recovery.

Good Afternoon!
Lunchtime! Zoe, I´ll have a double cheeseburger, fries, and a 7up to wash it down. I am still missing Cajun food on the menu - Cajun Chef Ryan - where art thou?
Spend the morning with my doc - ECG and all the works. My ticker still is not up to shape and I am getting really worried, now. Doc said, we will watch it for a little while, if there is no improvement, he suggests to go for a replacement pump. I have not told Petra yet - I don´t want to put that on her shoulders at the moment - there are just too many other worries. I will have to go even slower in the coming weeks, but as I hardly move today, what does slower mean?
Well, as my Jubilee cannot be delivered, I ordered another loco. Turned out to be a hassle, had to go to the bank to arrange for pre-payment. Now that´s something I don´t like at all, but without a credit/debit card, there are not many options left.
Jeff - the two of us have to hoist the Red Cross flag above our domiciles, don´t we. All we need to do is concentrate on getting better. And we may have to include Barry...
Time for a nap - I am tired and worn out.
Good Morning--
I'm typing this with a headbutting little 'Spring' headbutting me---he makes a better door as opposed to a window! lol! He's very loving this fellow---

mmmm--I started to get this image of 3 soldiers going through a field with flutes and drum---wonder why
I'm going into the backyard to finish off the "mess" back there-----then I'll be able to see just how much squish there really is in our yard----I do know one thing though. There is a lake back here again-
Flo, I'll just have a breakfast bagel with coffee please---I'll be at the RC for a bit

Good morning. Hope you are wearing GREEN !!!!!
I guess I will head to the basement this morning. See what I can do on the layout.
Other than that not much planned. Who knows, the boss might call me in again.
Jim......Its not a bad job. I was working at one in NC until I had to do the shooting/driving at the police school. The bad thing about the job is the "dry blowers". They have six of them, and my ears are still ringing from last night. I had to go and get some ear plugs. A couple of other workers said I would getuse to it, well I don't wanna go deaf!!
Hope everybody has a good morning.
"Rust, whats not to love?"
Good morning all. Coffee and pecan rolls please. Thanks
Got home late last night, went to the hospital to see the Grandson. Thanks to all who prayed and cared, he is doing Muuuuch better now. So much so they are considering having to charge the perp on lesser counts to insure he doesn't miss out on the opportunity to pay for his crimes. Oh well, I'd rather have the boys health if I were to choose. He is out of intensive care and acting quite normal, just not as active of course. Still feeding off the tube until the cyst goes down, it is shrinking, so far, just not quickly and they are concerned it will scar over or become hard or something and prevent it from draining at all. Still may need surgery. Once that is resolved, the cyst, it should open the lower intestine/stomach connection and the feedin pick (sp) can be removed as well as the stomach drain tube in his snoot.
GraftonTerminalRR-
Barry- Underestimate space? Huh, you ain't alone. I'm eyeballin' a curve that looks so very sharp but measures out at 21"R. It's not the main and won't haul any thing over 2 axle, longest being grain hopper, but it just looks shrarp. Should be enough room but we will see with the test run that will happen, hopefully by the end of the week or next.
Chris- Glad the storm didn't form. That gust of wind sounds bad though. I wasn't a Southern blast of warm air was it? If so might I suggest fanning the covers. It'll help dissipate the.........humidity. (I'm ignoring you're recant of the report because it would ruin my response.)
Jeff- I have run into the same bean counters dealing with meds for my Mother. I can only imagine what will be like when we get "free" health care. They couldn't even deal with getting coupons for digital TV boxes right. And we are going to trust them with dealing life sustaining DRUGS?????!!!!
Keith- Touching story on the El Camino. I saw many things that brought back fond memories of my Dad when I was cleaning out Mom's house. By the way, I'd really think twice about emptying the ashtray. My Dad smoked a pipe too. Little bit of him every time you take the car/truck for a spin. Unfortunately or fortunately, depending on how you look at it, you are correct. I would change all fluids and give her a tune-up. Be very careful and give yourself plenty of stopping room for a while to just be sure. Be prepared for leaks to pop up. They don't always happen, but and car that sits without the lubes splashing against the gaskets and seals, they have a tendency to dry out and leak. I wouldn't just run out and have everything replaced, it may not be too bad if it happens at all. Just be prepared and don't take it on a long trip til you get some time under it's belt again.
Robby- Ain't tips great? Free cash without the taxes. I'll leave it at that so the soapbox doesn't get drug out and I go off on a "gratuity should be just that. Gratuity. If someone wants to slide you a couple bucks cause you did a good job then you shouldn't be taxed etc, etc, etc.....", rant.
Garry- I'm praying you find another place of worship, and that the "old fuddy duddy's" get their acts together before the church dies. (figuratively speaking of course) Several years ago the Baptist Church went under because they didn't want to change their way of thinking. Ours ours almost went under because the Preacher last, didn't want to change her ideas to a more traditional way of servicing the congregations needs. Luckily, and just in time we got another preacher, and older one who returned to the Bible to teach from instead of some book. The congregation returned and we are doing business as usual once again.
OH MY GOSH!!! Look at the time! And I'm not even halfway through page 40 yet. I'll have to get a move on and catch up later if I want to get something done. So.....
Great day yesterday. Got some pretty good progress done and I hope to do the same today before tomorrow begins bringing who knows what. In fact, today may bring who knows what so I best get down there before I don't know what happens.
Have a Great Day!!!

Bama.. whoa.. Yes yes YES! Very helpful to me. This has been a fun project for me. Well this is what I have found out.. nuttin.. nah~ Just kiddin.. lol. Ok.. Its a V8.. that at least I can count the spark plugs / wires.
Its more than likely a smaller V8 .. but here's the first five VIN numbers. *1 W8OH after that.. it has 9z.. and more numbers.
I know this.. this engine has some ponies under the hood. When we were two blocks away from the house.. I goosed it.. heck.. just to blow out the cobb webs... but it felt like a fun one to punch. AS far as the engine hoses.. well .. as you put it.. 'road ready'.. well I'd never be brave enough to cross the desert at 110 degrees with lousy hoses.. oh boy.. I thank you for your list and advice. I truly believe .. everything is going to have to be replaced. Crossing the desert.. well you might as well be on Mars.. the only difference is oxygen. Truly a place you don't want to have a car break down.. out in the middle of nowhere.. and hot.
On a side note here.. Jeanne and I were talkin.. ya know.. being the son of a German farmer for many generations.. Zoe I see everybody be wearing green this morning on this grand day. You'll have to pardon me but I am not awake yet. Coffee, THAT's it! I need Coffee, dark roast in the green R&GV mug, OK?
Sunny skies and a high of 57°F today here in the Finger lakes. Current temp. is 45°F, and in honor of the day the grass in my yard (outside) has started to show little bits of green... I may spend some time cleaning up around the outside of the house today.
I had to pick my sister up at the Rochester International Airport last night. Her JetBlue flight was due to land at 9:28PM. I checked on the flight before I left home, it said, "On Time". Got to the airport around 8:30PM, it said, "On Time" sat down to wait. Around 9:15 I got up, went over to the Arrival board, it said, "On Time". Sat back down. No activity at the luggage kiosk for THAT flight. Waited till 9:45, checked the board, it said "On Time". Sat back down and waited. 10:00PM, the board says, "On Time". Sat back down and waited. 10:30PM, checked the arrival board..... Not listed...... I waited another 15 minutes, checked again. Her flight wasn't listed..... Went over to the luggage office for JetBlue and asked the guy sitting at the computer, You know you have a flight missing? Did it run out of gas half way here or something? He asks what flight it was. "Oh it's just running late. Be here in another 35 minutes or so." I say, "You guys now operated by Amtrack or what?" Her plane arrived a little before Midnight. So it was close to 1:00AM when I got her back to her house.... Late night by the time I got home!
Read through stuff quickly this morning..... Lee (think it was you) good idea to try to get some of the rock from the quarry. It is privately owned, I'll have to see if I can get a tour of the quarry and a bag of small rocks for there.
Guess I should finish my coffee and get moving for the day.
Later!

LUNCH!!!!!!!!!!!! I will take the cheeseburger basket, and sweet tea.
Der....Those "light" jobs are much easier. Not as much time to wait for drying, etc...
Todd.......We get paid $6.00 a hour plus tips. The six a hour gets taxed, but the tips don't. I guess the government don't see taxing tip money??? Maybe that's why the pay is less than minimum wage. I know a person I was working with yesterday left with at least $70+ in tips. Of course that was all day. $6.00 a hours might not be much but add on two, three or more in tips a hour.......well it adds to $8+ a hour (hour wage +tips). My tips + hourly, well it was about $8 a hour I was making. I didn't even do the math on what the other guy brought home at $70. I do see what your saying thou .
I've been working on the layout since this morning. I redid the lift out, its a lot smoother now (rolling wise). I also cleaned up the table top.
I thought I would add a few pictures of the layout.
Good Morning All...Its sunny and 43 here...I'll have coffee and toast please...Thank you...

TODD: Glad to hear the little guy is getting better! Thanks for the update, was wondering how he's doing. I agree with you (I know, I know, now you'll be re-thinking your opinions, etc.) on "free" healthcare. And 'ats all I'm a-gonna say on THAT lest we stir-up a mess of poly-ticks!!
Der JOHN: Your picture sums up perfectly my pessimistic outlook... IF I ever followed the rainbow, THAT's what I'd find: a big pot of sh.................................azbot! Then again, by the time I was done following the dang rainbow, I might be a-needin' such a facility!! Guess THAT would be "lucky," in a way...
ROBBY P: I w**ked at an auction house where it was made clear, if we took "tips," and the owner found out about it...we'd be GONE. Grunt labor, low wages, felt like a rented mule. It was never explained why the boss was so particular about it. My guess is, he didn't value us and didn't see why anybody else should either. At the home healthcare delivery job, there was a "company policy" against accepting "tips," but there were a few times it was all but impossible not to. As for taxing tips...just wait, give 'em time...the poly-tick-ians will get around to it sooner or later! IF they can look at canceled credit card debt as "income," and thus taxable...why not gratuities? THAT said, I'm all for a guy keeping as much of the money he earns as possible!!! I'm quite certain, I can spend MY money better than the govt. anytime.
Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww shazbot! Speaking of w**k, this week just keeps getting flatter and flatter for me. I've got story leads "out there," but practically nothing has landed yet. Tomorrow I'm interviewing the director of the North Liberty Food Pantry. Apparently, they do more business than any others in the area, and twice as much business as the busiest pantries in the Quad Cities. Should be interesting to find out why.
THAT will be one story for THAT... I'm also going to see what I can make out of the Sheriff's 2009 annual report, seems the JoCo Sheriff was busier (again) than in 2008. Maybe if I w**k-in the 2009 NLPD report as well...then I'll have two stories for THAT. Thankfully, next week will be a lot busier with a business feature already lined-up and high school track meets kicking in. I'm also trying to put together something out of the Solon American Legion. A Solon native is at Walter Reed, recovering from Afghanistan injuries, and the Post is gathering stuff for him, and his buddies there.
With THAT, time to get back to doing something...even if wrong!
***EDIT*** Looks like I've got lunch today...order up boys, order up!
Good morning. It's 54 and cloudy. the high will will be around 60 and there's a chance of rain. Any activity outdoors will still be done on crutches as I'm no better today than I was yesterday. Only difference is it won't hurt near as much as the pain killers are working quite well. I'm expecting Home Health to show up sometime between noon and 2 pm and I still have to go to the pharmacy to pick up the antibiotic I wasn't able to get yesterday. I'm hoping things go a lot better today.

***Robby, sure like the way your expanded layout is coming along. Look forward to seeing it finished one day.
It's nice to have our little Millie Kitty back home. Sure it was quite an ordeal for her at the Vet's.
Hope everyone is doing well today.

Jim, thanks man, I love christianbook.com for finding a bunch of metal/hard rock etc. christian bands.
thanks for the compliments on the layout progress guys! the danged scrap yard spur pulled up during ballasting for some reason, so I need to go back, scrape all the ballast off, and reglue it and ballast it, but otherwise the scenery looks pretty good.
Keith, you're killing me, I love Chevy's El Camino!
John, it's on the other side of the layout. I'll draw a trackplan up soon hopefully so everyone can visualize where everything is.
Robby, thanks for the layout pics, it's looking great!

The dang things still play---we also have the disc player for it---an RCA of all things --- The stereo I've got down in the basement still has a working 8-track player---
Afternoon ya'll. Is vinny pinching anyone who isn't wearing green?
Today was intresting. The brakes in my car decided to go soft; and on top of the wind and rain I had to deal with that in traffic. Unfortunately the wind and rain are preventing my from bleeding the brakes, but I did check the lines during a lull in the weather. Both fronts were a little loose and that's all squared away. I just have to bleed them sometime.
On top of that, my English teacher went on a tirade about a paper I was asking for assistance on. I did get the assistance, after 5 minutes of her yelling in my face about how so and so is a such and such. I criticised a writer of a movie saying he used something fraudulent to make money, she claimed I was going off of an feeling. Who doesn't write movies to make money? I can safely say she doesn't like my political point of view, I just hope she doesn't dock points because of it like the last one. If she does, I smell lawsuit since all of my other work in that class has been A-B stuff.
Jim, that's why they call it Floriduh...
Kieth, now you have to grow a mullet, Just messing, it looks nice. If it was side-swiped it doesn't look like it.

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....
2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.
The Home Health nurse finally showed up this afternoon and informed me that I have to be at the hospital at 7:30 tomorrow morning to have blood drawn before I start my antibiotic regimen then I have to go back at noon to have blood drawn again. All this to see what the peaks and troughs of the antibiotics are. On top of that they say it has to be done once a week. No way am I making two extra round trips every week. Starting this coming Wednesday I can go in to have it done in the morning at the Home Health nurse can come at noon to do the other one. I am not an Olympic runner. I can't be making all these trips here, there and everywhere else when I'm supposed to be staying off my feet. They have me do all these things then preach at me for being on my feet to much! Danged bureaucrats! Speaking of which, I went to the pharmacy on a combined run today and got some prescriptions refilled. The new one for the new antibiotic STILL hasn't been approved and I was supposed to have started on it yesterday.
