Good morning. It's 54 and partly cloudy here in the Sportsman's Paradise. The high will be in the mid 60's and it will be partly cloudy.I'm a bit out of sorts today as my right ankle is giving me a lot trouble. I believe most of the pain in it is due to nerve pain sort of like what you get when you have a severe cramp except amplified several dozen times. I took some lyrica last night and it seems to have tamed it somewhat. I can at least get around the trailer somewhat better this morning. I don't have anything on the schedule today except to get what rest I can.

Speaking of, TODD: I think you've really got an opportunity for a "scene" there with the red trailer. In the 80s, I became familiar with "The Trailer," which was in a modular development adjacent to MIT in Morrison... it was one of two designated party "houses." I think THAT had something to do with why I didn't become a draftsman... Hey, here's an interior ideer, from THAT trailer, and a few rooms in the dorm at MIT: walls made of empty cases of Old Style.
Not sure what the "plan" is for today... probably just rest-up, it's gonna be a crazy week trying to get as much content for THAT as possible. Other than tomorrow, the weather is supposed to be decent for December...so will need to do the journalistic equivalent of "make hay while the sunshines." By building up her cache of content, WHEN I do get snowed-in again, she'll still have stuff to make a newspaper out of.

Can anyone here tell me if there is a basic metal shed (like you would store a lawnmower and garden tools in) for HO scale and who makes them? Wife needs one for her trailer park for Bubbles.(for those oof you who are familiar with the Canadian show, Trailer Park Boys )
I plan on starting that last NuComp trailer for the wife's layout this afternoon, unless a football game side-tracks me. But first, gotta do some farm chores.

woke up this morning to -35C with a wind chill taking it to -47C. So I played hoockey and didn't go to Church.
This weather is supposed to let up by the middle of the week. Sure hope so as next week-end my son will be driving here from Spokane.
Well I have the tree half decorated so I had better go and finsh that off.
Have made fairly good progress with the bedroom reno in the basement and it should be ready for my son by next week-end. My son in Grande Prairie Alberta will not get home this year but my other two sons live here in the city so we will be with them and their wives and dogs.

A hot chocolate please Zoe, and if you were to slip a wee dram beside it, I wouldn't say no! We got back from the Parade about an hour ago. We were about in the middle. The lead vehicle there is the police cruiser. The building used to be a High School, and is now the Library and government offices, community gym in the basement. The tail end float is the jolly old elf and spouse, with assorted lesser elves! As you see not a huge affair, no Macy's. (that speed limit sign BTW is in Kph, in case you were wondering how fast you could go through Sheet Harbour!) The van turned out not too badly. Pity we couldn't get it washed, but even driving up our road to the highway would have ruined the effort anyway! Here's the front, and the rear. You can see from the sky in the actual parade photos that the weather just kept getting better! It took about 30 minutes to put up once we arrived, and 10 to take down at the end. The Parade almost started on time, which surprised us, and ther ewere far more people than we had expected.
Rosie-the-dog is making "Where's my dinner?" noises 20 minutes early, at least. I've just two more tracks to wire up, then the whole freight yard re-moddel will be active. I even sortedout a "mystery short" last night. The turnout from the main intot he yard was working fine, but when it was switched to the main - Dead Short on the whole layout! I thought about hat for a bit and checked the joiners. Sure enough, I had put a metal, not an insulating joiner behind the frog on the yard branch. No problem while the turnout was for the branch, but "I'm not playing!" as soon as the main was chosen. Since the entire yard tracks stem from that turnout, and they are all in place, the necessary surgury to replace the metal joiner was interesting, but successful.. Better get on...TTFN.

Keith, what show was Engineer Bill on? Now Lambchops (and Sherry, Kukla and Fran...) I can remember, but I try to not do that often. Unless Engineer Bill was on Misterrogers? I was on some kids show (local) in the St. Louis area as a Cub Scout (whole pack went). One of the sponsors was Dr. Pepper, and they had a case of their product which someone with deficient thinking skills put behind a backdrop curtain, under some lights. It was mostly lukewarm when we got it, and it took me years before I tried DP again. I do like it now, but it better be cold(!).Oh, yeah - email me the particulars on the layout and I'll play around with my software to see what kind of thing I can make up.

Welp, Christmas shopping for my Loving Wife is officially completed thanks to the yearly stipend check from the Fire Dept., and the magical place known as "_Bay." With tough economics for us this year, we agreed to "one box" for each. I was originally going to "cancel Christmas," at least the commercial aspect of it. Of course, there was no real limit to how many things could go into "one box," or size of said box, etc. other than personal fiscal responsibility. I couldn't get her everything I wanted to this time around, but am confident she'll be very happy/thrilled with what I was able to procure. I'm just glad we don't have kids yet...it'd be real tough then.
On a more uplifting note, SAWYER: Man, I gotta quit watching your videos...you're making me wish I'd gone with N-sane scale! Nice w**k, by the way
JIM: Sample an Illinois squirrel? He hasn't gotten an Iowa squirrel yet! His "official" tally, as far as we know is: 1 toad and 1 mouse. He has very nearly gotten Chloe the Evil Step-Cat a few times, but for the Grace of God. Squirrels annoy him even worse than cats, and THATs saying something!
KEITH: Yeah...Rerun has "personality" allright! We had a list once of over 200 words and phrases he's learned and knows. We need to update it to include MORE. Proud doggy daddy I am, I may sound biased, but I swear he is the most intelligent dog I've ever known. He is also a schemer. For awhile, we had a second dog, Petey. We got Pete to be a companion to Rerun while we were gone all day. Bad idea. Rerun HATED Petey almost instantly.
Case 1: Petey, a small puppy, was sitting in a box we had outfitted with blankets, towels, and his stuffed Blue Bunny. Rerun came along and methodically removed each item, one by one, from the box leaving Petey sitting in an empty box and looking very sad.
Case 2: I had a hat collection. Rerun accessed it and brought hats to Petey, who was secured in the kitchen by boards Rerun could hop over, but little Pete couldn't yet. Rerun then proceeded to show Petey how much "fun" it is to chew/shred/mangalate things. Upon our return home, Rerun was nowhere to be seen...but there was little Petey, with shreded hats all around him! FRAMED!
We later had to send Pete off to a foster home.

been studying for Spanish; wouldn't be too bad, except my teacher just plain CAN'T TEACH!!! She's one of those teachers that knows the material, she just can't seem to communicate it. I've went back and attempted to memorize the whole vocab words b/c she doesn't give us vocab tests, so I never had a motivation to learn it. I just found my motivation though, lol.

We've got a storm that came through last night and decided to just stop over the Valley and the Sierra and spend the weekend. Lots of rain down here, lots of snow above 4,000 feet in the Sierra. Roads are either closed or with very strict chain control, and nobody seems to know when it's going to leave.
I am NOT complaining! We've had a 3-year drought around this state, and now we're finally getting the kind of December weather that we are supposedly used to. And the snow in the Sierra is the classic "Sierra Cement", which means it has a VERY high water content. So things are looking up. Drought-breaker? I don't know. But another month of this, and we ought to be looking at a water table close to normal.
We had the Jesuit High School Christmas Concert today, and it went SPECTACULARLY well! I couldn't have been happier with the guys--everything that was supposed to go right actually DID! We had it at a very large church here in town--Our Lady of Assumption--which holds about 1100 people, and the place was packed!
We tried something new this year--an Antiphonal, unaccompanied choral opening. Half the choir at the back of the church, the other half at the altar, Leah conducting the back choir, and me conducting the Altar choir. It was a work by the Renaissance composer Palestrina called "Adoramus Te, Christe", which is written to be sung by two alternating choirs, then blends at the end with the two choirs joining. It was absolutely stunning, and set the stage for the rest of the concert. When the whole thing was over, the audience simply didn't want to leave! We got a standing ovation that seemed to last as long as the Concert, by golly!
Leah's very clever about planning choral concerts, they're never much over an hour long. I like that. I've been involved in concerts where the director is convinced that if we don't keep the audience there for two to three hours, it isn't considered a 'concert'. Not true. If you give them about 60 minutes worth of REAL excellence, they're going to remember it for a long, LONG time. When I was much younger, I had the particular pleasure of working with Robert Shaw, probably one of the best-known choral directors in the country. His whole precept for a choral concert was: "Leave the audience wanting MORE!"
Well, we sure did that today, LOL! Everything from that Renaissance a-Capella work to a Spiritual called "Child Of God" that blew the audience right out of their seats, and one of my prize students--an ENORMOUSLY talented Senior named Riley Shanahan--doing a VERY funny and beautifully sung bass solo to "Merry Christmas, Darling" as he wended his way through the audience with a hand mike (he ended up sitting on our Principal's lap singing to her) . It was exhilarating. My adrenalin was at fever pitch, right along with the guys. Actually, I'm exhausted, right now. Thank God that school for the next week is two days of free time with the chorus, then school Finals. And I'm not needed to Proctor any finals, so my Christmas Vacation officially starts Wednesday. Tomorrow and Tuesday we're all just going to lay back and watch AMADEUS. (Actually, I'd almost like to sneak in a John Wayne Western and show them what I used to get a big kick out of when I was their age, LOL!).
Well, time for dinner. I had a GREAT day!

Thanks SAWYER, yeah...she got a couple items off her Amazon wish list, as well as some additions to her VW collection and Pepsi glass collection. "TheBay" is a wonderful place for these items. I'm a lucky guy, she not only tollerates the RR stuff, she actively encourages it. Also, instead of jewelry...she'll take a BUG! Instead of flowers (which die), she'll take...yep, a BUG! Makes for interesting conversations where she works, I'm sure... Co-worker: "What'd he get you for Valentine's Day?" Loving Wife: "A BUG!!" I'm not sure which one they think is more nuts...me or HER!?!?!?!
One drawback to the "one box" plan...she's a "shaker." I mean, she likes to shake the heck out of her presents to try and figure out what is in there. So, I usually rig up at least one with a motion-activated noise-maker . I also bubble-wrap stuff insanely....just so no noise will be emitted. This year, I was going to fill a box with paper towel rolls...just loose enough they'd rattle about. Instead, I'm gonna pack the one box so THAT absolutely nothing will move within it, absolutely no sound can or will be created. It will drive her nuts. A few years back, I got her some LEGOS. Yep...LEGOS. She never got 'em as a kid but always wanted them. Anyhoo...I custom-made a styrofoam cradle for the LEGOS box. It was further back-filled with plastic peanuts, bubble wrap, newspaper...anything/everything to absorb sound/prevent movement. THAT box was placed, surrounded by packing peanuts, into another box. By the time I was done...it was SILENT!!! Success! She spent a week fiddling with it to no avail. When she went to open it...it took her a half-hour as she kept coming across layer upon layer of box, packing stuff, etc.
Priceless.
BARRY: Glad Audrey is mostly intact..."mooring anchor," THAT's a new one, I'll have to hang onto THAT. I used to sell those blasted things in my home healthcare days.

Today has been a slipping and sliding kinda day......... Rain and sleet freezing onto sidewalks, cars, and the road this morning. I no sooner got to church than I talked with the janitor and told him there were some very icy spots on the walks. He says he had already put salt out. I told him to go check it out. Couple minutes later he is out with a pail of salt hitting it again.
Today was our annual Cantata Sunday. The choir did a portion of the Saint-Saëns "Christmas Oratorio". Haven't heard (or sung) it in years. They did an excellent rendition for a Volunteer Church Choir.
Got home from church, skated into the house and went out with my own pail of salt for the walk and driveway. Spent most of the rest of the afternoon printing photos to send out with my Christmas Cards. Also printed the envelopes for the cards. Hopefully they will get sent out in the mail tomorrow. I managed to spend an hour or so painting the "wood" decks on a couple of the flat cars I have been assembling. Tomorrow I hope to decal and finsh the 2 cars I have assembled at the Modelers Corners a few weeks back.
Tom, sounds like you had a great day. I have sung the Palestrina "Adoramuse Te, Christe" many years ago. Neat piece! I love renaissance music, both the "popular" music of the time, and the church music. So you worked with Robert Shaw! Cool! Were you singing, or tickling the ivories?

I'm gonna have to talk to the doc about this. It doesn't seem normal to me. The previous dosage wasn't bad but now I just feel lousy. I hope everyone else is having a better day than I am.

You are pushing a lot of goodies in the I.V.'s via porta cath.. I believe~.. you still need to drink the water my friend. Until you see clear liquid coming out. Now I hate to be such a pain but in short, you even need to remind yourself. I am prescribing you one bottle of water .. to be stationed at .. you guessed .. the bathroom... right there you sit. Everytime you sit there.. its a reminder to drink water. Don't forget. Thanks And please stay away from the Ibruprofin.. your kidneys are being 'taxed' enough.

Good morning. Its a cool morning today, but is suppose to warm up some.
Well its "peak week" at FedEx. The newspaper said FedEx will get about 50 million packages this week!!! Thank goodness I'm at a small hub, and we will probably get about 75,000 for the week. The most trailers we have had at the FedEx I'm at now is 15 (for one night). The most I had when I worked at the FedEx in Charlotte, NC was 180. That 180 was for one night!!!

Good Morning All,
A regular to go please. Interesting weekend weatherwise. We had our company Christmas party Saturday night with cold temps but dry. By noon yesterday the landscape was a skating rink and when I went to go out, I just turned right back around and found other stuff to do. Just after that we had an emergency responder down the road sideways and lots of others creeping along for the rest of the afternoon. Just don't like driving on ice. A couple of towns over they had a 50 car pileup on a two lane state road that runs along the Naugatuck river. Impressive picture and thankfully no-one was seriously injured. This morning there were only a couple of bad spots on the drive to the shop so hopefully we're past the worst of it.
Jeff - hope you're feeling better this morning. Keep after the doc - getting the meds right can take a bit of trial and error but I know what the pain that won't go away is all about.
Did get a lot done on the house over the weekend. Prepped the new basement floor section so we can epoxy it and put trims in and towel racks and the like up. Big job involved fixing a beam the contractor put in that stuck into the den. The den and living room are connected by a 10' wide by 7' tall opening that needed reinforcement. He had plated everything with 2 x 4 to close it up but needed to make a jog into the room on one side that was unacceptable. I was able to use one of those flush cut Fein tools (yes - as seren on tv) to slice the offending projecdtion off flush with the wall and with no ill effect to the wall it was attached to.Hopefully I won't now strain my arm patting myself on the back.

We're getting something called freezing drizzle this morning--sitting at -1 going to a high of 7C with rain and wet snow flurries this evening--as we go back to the round goose egg.
We's going to have a lazy day today---after all that running around over the weekend---we are not going out and jumping like excited rabbits ---- more like our cuddled up 'Spring'--who is making me type chicken wing style---all curled up in between my arms

Good morning. It's 55, foggy and damp. The high today will be in the mid 60's and there's a 60% chance of rain.Ever been so tired you couldn't sleep? That was me last night. Maybe I'll be able to get some sleep later today. One thing I have to do is check the pipes under the trailer to make sure they're wrapped properly. I'm looking forward to that like root canal surgery. I've never done well in close spaces. My younger sister locked me in a closet when I was 12. I had never liked tight spaces even then. I busted the door down and commenced to beat the crap out of her. The only thing that stopped me was an immense silver sheppard that stood 30 inches at the shoulder! You don't argue with a dog that big! Suffice it to say, I still get panicked in cramped spaces. The hardest part will be taking down the skirting. It's made up of sheets of galvanized V-crimp steel that are screwed together. Putting them in place was easy, 14 years ago. Hopefully that will be the only thing on the schedule today.
Jeff, Not for nothing, but couldn't the pipes wait a bit until you're healed a bit more? With the risk of infection and the pain creeping up the leg now may not be the best time to be crawling about under your home. Add to that the likelyhood that the insulation got wet when the drain let go and the chance of mold getting in there and one has to wonder, are you wrapped as tight as the pipes you're worried about ? Seriously I'm concerned for you. J.R.
