Rob- You too. The doctors now a days are quacks. My daughters sons pediatrician, new from school, chastised her and told her water was bad for the child until the age of,(I don't remember, something like 5) and the boy should have formula only along with the occasional bottle of milk and sometimes juice. Apparently water will juuuust about kill a person under the age of two. I wish my Mother had known that. My wife too. I shouldn't be alive. Come to think of it, there are child endangerment charges in the making here for more people than the courts can handle. .....Quacks.
Barry- According to the bulletin, apparently companies buy old customer lists from other companies. I guess presented as mailing lists (At least I'd hope the companies who sell their past customers lists don't advocate this behavior). These lists are old accounts that are closed out. They then contact these people and present themselves as trying to collect on an old debt, usually so far back that people naturally would not remember or have documentation to back up their claim of being debt free to the creditor. They then try to intimidate the person into paying a bill that more than likely doesn't or maybe never existed in the first place. Many people will pay on these debts based on what the company representative tells them because they are afraid of legal action against them because, by golly it‘s so long ago they just don‘t remember. But apparently they have the documentation. If they knew the law they would know that is not possible. Unfortunately not all the people know the laws and those are the ones they hope to get. Especially the elderly. I myself didn't know the law until a friend of Brenda's gave her the web address. Now I do. And more importantly the Ill States Attorneys Office confirmed it. He knew the law also, after an exhausting attempt on his part, but relaxing on mine, I had a soda and a Snickers bar, his attitude changed when I finally said Listen to me carefully and I proceeded to tell him one step at a time and asked him if I was correct at each step. He agreed with what I said. He had to. I had the law right in front of me. His attitude had changed and he was very receptive to what I said and agreed it was an uncollectible debt even IF it existed. He said they would not call again. After, of course, I asked him , " You do know what I'm leading up to don't you. One of us will pay a large sum of money, and it won't be me. The State of Illinois is hurting for money now and they will grab every dime they can get. If you think they won't go after you because of the cost. Their return will be greater. It's a cut and dried case. Easy money. They will take every dime from you they can. That's just the way they are. My only regret is that I don't live in Texas. In Texas, the state would give me half." He wished me a good day and said it was nice talking to me. I responded likewise.
I never made it to the layout. Tomorrow however, is another day.

Barry - I hear you about the dumpster and other trucks. The one for my apartment building isn't too bad, as he waits until about 6:45 or 7:00 in the morning to come on Fridays (good thing, since he rumbles past my window about 10-15 feet away...). It's the ones for the neighboring apartment buildings that are annoying, as they have that dratted safety backup beep-beep-beep-beep-beep... which sure carries all too well from a block or even two away. And good to hear Audrey's doctor visit went fine!
Robby - that sounds great that a) your boss recognizes what your team is doing, and b) that he rewards you for it! Double How's your layout expansion coming along? (And how's the doorway to the bathroom?...)

Todd (and Barry), on THAT phone call, I could see them having somebody with a name even faintly close to yours/Brenda's, that they hadn't been able to find, so they go looking in some database of residences and find your number and decide that you must be the ones they are looking for. Or they're definitely scam artists, in which case all they would need would be to buy some list of residential phone numbers to try and find unsuspecting people to hoodwink. I have a very low tolerance for someone trying to badger or guilt-trip me about a bill. Even if it's one I owe, that (IMHO) gives them ABSOLUTELY NO right to harass me or treat me as subhuman or the scum of the earth.
We had a grey spell in Cape G. today, and about mid-day it turned into a downpour for a while. Luckily it got most all of it out of its system before I went to lunch at 1:25 p.m.
Speaking of w**k, I was realizing that admin. and our doctors will have a real incentive to find another person to help cover crisis so Jason and I can get back to a more regular schedule. I was figuring that with him and me being either off certain weekdays or else on evenings (and not around in the days), first, we won't see each other much, if at all. Second, if I'm with a person in crisis upstairs and one of our doctors needs a crisis worker downstairs, they may be out of luck! And the doctors don't really want their day fooled with too much by a client that needs to be hospitalized (NOW!), so they will be putting pressure on admin. and my supervisors to 'fix it' ASAP.
On the MRR side, I ordered a drop bottom flat car - need that to put my transformer kit on, once I get it put together, right? I got a UP RTR one on sale (Bargain Bin). Trying (still) to figure out if/what I might have funds left to order from the flyer to economically stimulate my LHS owner/MRR member's business...
I'll get this seat at the window booth re-conformed to my bottom again - I think it got shifted or re-arranged in the move here. (Scrunches down on the seat cushion...)
for good night's sleep for those who've been having problems of that type lately, and for healing and comfort for those Diners ailing, recuperating or just in need of other kinds.

Good Morning All,
A regular and a blueberry muffin to go please. Museum last night fitting some of the resin castings we made and painting and ballasting some of the elevated track. Beore that it was three hours of hard graft floating out the new concrete (which I'd never attempted before). Never again - after all that w..k on a 9' x 12' area it still looks awful and I'll need to grind down high spots and fill in a few divots with epoxy before putting the floor to use. Oh yeah and my back feels like Jeffs' leg must.
Jeff - I hope you've called the doc about the creeping pain. If you have an infection traveling up your leg it is serious.Take care of yourself, please.

Gotta love the yarbles on some of these bill collectors (con men?). We had a situation where a lady with the same last name moved out of state leaving a financial mess i her wake. They were calling every Mitchell in the phone book repeatedly trying to collect (not trying to find her, but trying to collect). Again a call to the state was needed to get it to stop.

Well today is the BIG 30!!!!! Do I feel older, yes and no. Not much planned for my b-day today. I will do stuff for it this weekend. Today, just chill out, and take it easy.
Jim......I haven't touched much on the layout. Kinda having to watch money (taxes). I have enough done to switch and make some laps. I also have a yard with four sidings. That gives me enough to do.

My sister from South Bend will be arriving late afternoon or this evening. Not sure when my son and his partner will be getting here. But once they all arrive, I won't have much time for cleaning the house, so I better get doing THAT soon. Actually I am pretty much on schedule for getting it done. Just have to give the bathroom a good scrubbing and the kitchen a tidying up............ My older son and I were thinking yesterday that it has been about 35 years in a row that I have done the Thanksgiving Feast here at my house (and the house before this one....)

Worked on the grade to connect the staging loop up to the (not yet built) mainline. It pencils out to a 3.2% grade. Hope that's not too steep, but when I get some track on it, I'll run a few tests...

I'm glad to be home early today from work... I passed my first Physical Characteristic Exam today! Unfortunately there weren't any roadformen available to take us Newark Division guys for our Verbal Exam... That will happen on monday!!! Please pray for me, as I am more than a little nervous about it!

Lee- Oh yes, If they keep calling I'm sure the FCC will get an invite to play along with the State. It's bad enough they pull this stuff on people like us, but you can only imagine how many older people get these phone calls and are easy pray. I mean gee whiz, how many accounts do people close out in the course of their lives? To come back almost 20 years later and claim there was an outstanding balance that must have been over looked. Who can really remember for sure? And to expect them to pull a statement and cancelled check out from that many years ago? Yeah right!

John, no prob. I usually get about 4 or 5 clumps from one bundle of strands I pull form the bag. and idk how many bundles can be had form a bag. I just make a hole in the scenery, add a drop of white glue, stick the fibres in, and cut to length while still holding the bundle, then pull it away and tease it around with my fingertip a bit to get them to spread out.
