Good morning.  Didn't get in here yesterday thanks to internet problems.

Well I see Jeff is back.  You had a lot of people worried.   Good to see you back and doing better thou.  Plus I'm sure the layout missed you.

Well hopefully the Steelers do something tonight.  Other than that not much planned.

 Everybody have a good day.

Mornin folks, Coffee please. Today: Mostly sunny, with a high near 63. West northwest wind between 5 and 7 mph. Tonight: Partly cloudy, with a low around 43. Light north northwest wind.

Getting ready to leave for the Spoon River drive. Hope to get some MR done tonight but.... Probably tomorrow as I don't think I'm occupied then. Looks like it will be a beautiful day for it, the suns out in full force.

Ulrich- Great your still with us. I wouldn't sweat the mobile connection loss. Good to hear you've got a freedom date from the Stalag. You can then start a thought process for the future. Hang in there.

Lee- Ooo, the tweezers with wood handles sounds nice. That haul oughta keep you busy for a while!

Well, the little lady's a getting' fidgety. She's already showed me the dogs bag of stuff she's taking so you know what that means, best get a move on.

Have a Great Day!!!

OK, so yesterday was fun!  Too much fun!   It ended way too soon!

A few Drifter riders, along with another new friend, met up in Nashville, Indiana for the first time.  A great time was had by all!

I would have loved to have had more time.  A stop in Story would have been high on my list.  It's a cool little town and there were about 50 horseback riders in town when we passed through.  Unfortunately, I had to keep moving, and the rest of our group opted to stick with me on into Nashville, Indiana instead of stopping.

We met up in the morning in downtown Nashvillle (the booming metropolis that it is......small town USA) and decided to head into town to check out the shops.  Nashville is kind of a local tourist trap type place.    They have every kind of shop you can think of, including several biker type leather shops.  It was those that we targeted!  Being the end of the season, they're looking to unload their merchandise.  Deep price cuts were the order of the day.  Several of us did quite well.

After that, hunger was beginning to make itself known, so we headed to one of the best resturants in town.  Once our hunger was satisfied, it was time to ride!

We headed out and rode through some of Indiana's most beautiful countryside.  It's not all corn in Indiana ya know!  Soutthern Indiana is covered with hills and pristine forests, mixed with a few small farms nestled in the valley's.  We traveled through parts of Yellowood State Forest and the Hoosier National Park.  I'll tell ya, sometimes it was hard to stay focused on the twisting, undulating tarmac with all those beautiful sights to see!

Anyways, enough of me yaking........how about a few pic's?  And if you were there, feel free to add your pic's too!

Meeting up!

Good morning, Chloe. I will have my usual coffee and cinnamon roll.

Johnboy,  My brother got married in Grand Prairrie, AB, or 100 miles into the back country from there.  When I was there the streets weren't paved.

Lee, Nice score at the train show.  You will busy for a while.

My next project might be transferring photo backdrops of buildings onto poster board or something rigid near the turntable.  I am still noodling that out.

Larry painted a mountain on the backdrop for me.

Later,

Sue

Hey there, pc. Nice bikes. Those "Indian" style front fenders really are cool. Love 'em. Glad you and your pals had a good and safe ride. Nice looking leathers. Too many bikers down here ride with NO protection. Tee shirts and open sandals. Man are they nuts!

Evenin' folks!

I was out doing the Museum Guide/Docent thing all day today.  Mid afternoon there was a birthday party group that cme down the line with many little kids, most of whom were having a great time.

Jeffrey!  Glad your back.  We did miss you!  Hope you continue to improve and you have no problems with the catheter for the antibiotics.  What kind is it, a Hickman?  My late wife had a couple different kinds at different times when she had chemo for her ALL.  I was the one who got to help with the daily cleaning of the catheter.  Much more comfortable than getting an IV stuck in your arm every day.

I see Ulrich checked in here.  Great to hear from him!

Lee, nice haul.  That should keep you busy for a couple days at least.....

PC, great shots of some awesome wheels!  You could have posted one of yourself on the bike....  We can take it!...Whistling

Flo just a Hot Fudge Sundae for me and a cup of decafe.  I'll go sit at the Rivet Counter and see who wants any specs for triple valves in HO or smaller.....

Well, what can I say. I'm back from the Spoon River Scenic Drive and all I saw was a bunch of people selling stuff in little towns and garage sales between them. Unfortunately, we didn't get to two of her favorite spots so she wants to return next SundayBanged Head. I don't get it myself. But..., she and the dog enjoyed themselves so....Sigh

Ah! I see my pie is ready I'll sit here next to Barry,ShockShock no I guess I won't. (my goodness that's a huge steak. Takes up the whole table. And a WHOLE PIE!!!! WOWzers.)

PC- Nice bikes and I'm glad you spared us a picture of you. Sounds like all we would have seen was the sun glaring off your teeth because of the huge smile!

Scooch over Ray, I don't know what you're talking about but I'll listen while I eat my pie.  Then I guess I'll head downstairs and stare at the empire. If I make it past my chair.Whistling

Afternoon all from StillBalmyCal:

High here was 72.  Delicious!   Seventy miles east of us up in the mountains, they had snow over Donner Summit and in Truckee.  YAY!!!   Okay, it was only 1-4 inches and it didn't stick around very long, but if it's a Harbinger Of Things To Come, we'll all be Very Happy Campers.   And no, snow in Truckee is NOT a nuisance, it's a Necessity!

We're not supposed to see 80 degrees down here in the Valley until next weekend, and even that's iffy.  Fall, delicious Fall--it's finally arrived.  Tongue

MRegeant--Sign - Welcome.  Hope you like it here and stick around.  The virtual food is incredible!

Su:  Very good to hear from you.  Hope we get more photos of that very neat layout, too!

Lee:  Holy COW!  You made off like a Bandit at that train show! Shock   Ours herej in Roseville comes up next month sometime, but after starting my collection of "City" passenger cars, plus the 'phanton' Z-6 that's supposed to land in my hands before the end of the year, I think all I'll be able to afford is some trees, LOL!   Great haul you did!

Glad both Ulrich and Jeff are back and seemingly on the mend.  My continuing prayers for both of you.

Phil:  Neat bikes!

Well, I took my old, neglected Akane just recuscitated USRA Heavy Pacific out again today and decided to see how she'd work with my regular Rio Grande PFM Pacific.  Now, this Akane has been fitted with a new NWSL can, just like my Rio Grande lady, and I thought they might enjoy double-heading.  WRONG!!!  Shock  Akane on the head end, Rio Grande on the train.  Akane takes off like a racehorse, practically pulls the coupler out of the Rio Grande pilot.  Oops!   Okay, you DCC'ers are now laughing and saying, "Tol'ja", right?   Well, what should I have expected from a tall-drivered Heavy Pacific that has a WATER SCOOP on the tender, huh?

Okay, I reversed them.  Rio Grande helper, USRA road engine.  About eight of my Walthers heavyweights--three of which still insist on squealing around curves.  Worked just fine, after I fine-adjusted my ControlMaster 20.  Just have to remember that whatever I use for a helper, the Akane has to be the road engine.  But my oh my, she's a sweetie.  Doesn't fit the railroad, but who cares?  She's a lovely little locomotive.  Looks kinda/sorta "Southern Crescent" only without the green.  Glad I was semi-intelligent enough to put her back into running shape.

Got up this morning, walked out into the living room, and I swear, Uff-Dah has gained about three pounds of HAIR, overnight.  Ruff, tail and everything.  "It's STILL not Norway,"  I stared at him.  "Keeps up like this, it'll DO," was his look to me.

If we have a Winter--which we just might--I'll have two of the furriest little beasties in the world.  Spooky's already sprouting like crazy.

Well,  got to get ready for school tomorrow.  Last week we had about 10% of the student body home with what may or may not be the Flu.  They cough, they go to the Dean's office and get sent home.  We'll see what this week is like.

Best to all, prayers to those in need.

Good Sunday evening one and all. Thought I'd better put in an appearance before the doors close on Diner XVIII. Three weeks ago Kris' cousin and her husband from the UK came for a two week visit. That was a good time, but things aren't yet back to normal completely.  However, as I told Dick the other day, the layout worked pretty well for the demonstration - I had of course to clean all the track since it hadn't had any action for some time before that. Took a local out and did switching,(shunting, as they know it) which is more interesting than just running a passenger train from station to station around the layout.

My Atlas GP15-1 came back from the warranty fix with a new drive train. It runs nice a quietly now on DC. However the TCS drop in decoder(ASD4) that was in it before I returned the loco to Atlas, and was working fine up to that point, doesn't work now.

I'm awaiting a second GP15-1 from Internet Model Trains (my cost just $18 Cnd and change thanks to in-store discounts, frequent flyer points etc, sweet!) any day now...I hope the ASD4 I have lined up for it behaves!

During the visit I did little mrr, and have done less since. The weather has been too good to waste indoors; and many outside projects have advanced as a result. Now we are in for a week of rain and maybe I'll be able to get back into the groove again. I did manage to make two HO scale buckets for that near forgotten tar trailer. Unfortunately they got swept to the floor and trodden on sometime in the visit period. I'm glad I hadn't made the handles for them by that time! Once they are replaced, and some "tar" slopped around, that will be the end of the project.

For those interested in modern steam, check out http://www.a1steam.com/  You'll see modern steam is not an oxymoron!

A big to all new folks since I was last in...hope you like it here and can stay a while.

Time I was thinking of bed, busy day again tomorrow, and I have to continue the close monitoring of blood sugars since they put me on the fast-acting insulin last Friday. This will be the first "eating out" under the new regimen...don't know how that is going to work out, time will tell.

Goodnight all, and God Bless. Prayers for all in need of healing, prosperity, comfort and peace.Angel

OK, Barry, listen close.....  You measure the original, take a couple dozen photos for help in getting it just right.... That steak was how big??? Three pounds?  You ate it in one sitting???  OK, then you divide all the measurements by 160...  Or use an "n" scale ruler.  Did you see the size of those grease burgers....????  Ahem, anyway, then you start with a small block of wood and a very sharp #11 exacto knife....  I would recommend fairly strong optivisors as well.  You ate it all???  Nurse!  I think Barry is going to need some help over here!  His arteries seem to be suddenly clogging up or something.

Tom, we used to use that routine at Eastman back when Herr Dr. Genharrrrrrdddt was the conductor of the Eastman School Chorus.  He vas Sviss, und dey spechen das best duetch (or so said he).  If you tried to walk in late, you failed!  Period!  The only thing he would accept for missing chorus rehearsal was a signed note form the nurse.  So anytime we found ourselves late, we just rode the elevator up to the second floor and stood in line at the infirmary.  When it was our turn, we would cough and wink (the line was often long on chorus days...) get a signed excuse and a free bottle of codeine cough syrup.  We usually stockpiled the cough syrup for weekend par.......  (Nope I won't go there.)  He did teach us some rather important things, like showing up on time!  Also that learning is not something just for school but a life long project (Vats da mahtter! You affrrrrraid you gung to learn something!  Bah, musicianship, Bah!!!).  He retired to travel to mehecho so study Spanish!  Well he said they speak the best Spanish, so.....  He was interesting to say the least....Whistling  There are many Eastman stories about the man, a real legend!

John I got a stomach ache just watching that video......  I remember when I would think nothing of tackling one of those quadruple bypass type thingy's with lots of fries with cheese on top.  Think I'm getting old.

Oh, I was going to tell you folks...  One of the members of the New York Museum of transportation rode the train down the hill to the R&GV to show me his latest acquisition.   A z scale train set.  The locomotive is about an inch long......  Have no idea how you would get it actually on the rail????  Scratchbuilding anyone?

Evening, Flo, I'll have a hot fudge brownie with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top, please, and a Rio Grande mug of decaf, too. Thanks!

Garry, you'd better ask Jeff how soon he's gonna have the track down in front of his place, so you can schedule the delivery of that present...Smile,Wink, & GrinWhistling

Jeff, I'll bet they could've come up with that surgeon a few days earlier if you'd just showed some of your Indian side of the family then, eh? And yes, I am VERY sure you are glad to be home (and away from those nurses and docs). You have curious, though - since your eyesight's not good up close, how'd you get that closeup of the shelf coupler?Wink

Sign - Welcome to the Diner, mreagant! When you can stay a little longer, tell us about yourself and your layout/plans/dreams. Thumbs Up

Todd, as for that getting things w**ked out for Ms. Luverly, would that include clearing out the mess (TM - sorry Fergie) inside of my apartment, maybe? Wink

Ulrich - good to see you back again, even briefly. If you need to do it that way, use an internet cafe (or local library, if the ones there do like some of ours and have computers there you can use), to save on some DM's. Do what you and Petra need to do, so we can keep up to date in our prayers for you. And the AngelAngel will be continuing, count on that! Get yourself healed up, too - I'm sure the Stalag's food hasn't improved that much!Dead

Lee, I hope you didn't strain yourself, hauling all that loot back from the show! We will be hoping for some pics of those soon (well, maybe the assembled stuff, at least), okay? I need a good drool, myself...Tongue

Sue, sounds like you and Larry have been managing some MRR time in there. Any photos? Come to think of it, I don't know if I recall seeing what your turntable looks like - got a pic of that? Thanks!

Jerry - I'm with you, those Cardinals need to get things back together soon. I hear out of their last 10 games, they only won two(!)Shock C'mon Redbirds!

Barry, have you been cutting wood for the winter, or how'd you w**k up such an appetite, fella?Dinner Yeah, I'll second Garry's nomination on that! Thumbs Up

Forgot who it was - PC? - that mentioned a town called 'Yellowood', but here on TV there's been somebody advertising treated wood with that same name. They had an ad series on a bit back with an ol' Western hero-lookin' kind of guy saving a town called (got this?) "Rotwood"... About as bad on the puns as some of Garry's punnies (almost).Smile,Wink, & Grin

And PC, sounds like you all had a great day for a ride (and I need to go look at the photos in the morning).Cool

So, Calif.Tom - if you actually get winter - with snow at your place and all that good stuff - will you let Uff-Dah and the Princess of Puff go play in it? I've forgotten how Spooky is with winter since last year... I was thinking about the flu this year, and wondering how many kids in school will try to take advantage of the whole flu thing to get some 'sick' days off. We had one of our receptionists get sent home Friday from w**k by our doctor 'cause she was coughing and not feeling too good.Oops

DerJohn, good to see you again, and make sure you follow the doctor's direction on your diet and insulin regimen. We don't want any more Diners in the hospital for a lonnnnnnnggg while! If you could email me pics (and directions?) on those buckets, I'd love it! Thanks if you can.

Prayers for those recovering from hospital stays (or huge artery-clogging steaks...), in need of comfort, and those kinda tuckered out (which probably covers most all of us). Time for this camper to gather up the tent and head for home.

Blessings,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Sorry I'm not on more often but until my eyesight gets back to normal I can only read the screen a few times a day. The way it is right now is that a room with adequate lighting for reading  looks as if it's dimly lit. The long course of strong antibiotics I've been on for the past week have a lot to do with it. Not only that, they've made my already short temper even shorter, so I really have to stay on top of my game when I'm talking with other members of my family, especially my father. That man can ask some of the stupidest, most insidious questions about what I'm going through and I constantly have to keep reminding myself that it's because he doesn't understand but really wants too. My problems are such that there's no way anybody can understand them unless they've been there themselves. Watching it happen to a husband, wife or child isn't the same as having it happen to you. Only then can you truly understand what it's like. Now the docs say that my vision will return to normal in a few weeks, maybe as long as 2 months. Until then I'm getting a bit of a taste of what my mother went through before she had her lasik eye surgery done to return her eyesight to normal. Before that she was legally blind and couldn't see 3 feet without her glasses which were a monstrously heavy pair of thick lenses supported by a thick wire frame. Now she doesn't have to wear glasses at all. If only the answers to all her problems were that easy. I'm only on 1 intravenous antibiotic now and I can administer it myself in the comfort of my home. I still have to use it for 20 more days but at least I'm off that iv rack of 3 and 4 going at one time. I hope I never have to go through that again. I'm hoping the docs are right and that my eyesight will return to normal. As it is right now I can't do any modeling as I have a extremely hard time focusing my eyes. So please excuse me if I only pop in a few times a day.

 Waiter

Thanks for your concern, Joe.  I am at least up to reading again.

Tom,  I am always glad to see photos of your layout on the Yuba River.   I will try to get a photo of my streambed.  Larry has installed the scratch built girders on his trestle.  We still need a bit more vegetation, but I thought that I would wait until he gets the trestle finished.

Jim,  We have the Walthers 130' turntable that comes ready to run.  A bit pricey, but worth every penny.  They only photos I have are with nothing around it.  We have the floor for a 6 stall roundhouse.  Once Larry dialed it in, it has been right on.  I am due for some updated photos.  It is always a good reason to clean the engine parts off the layout.

Have nice evening,

Sue

 Good morning.

It's 62 and cloudy. The high will be in the mid 70's and there's a chance of rain.

My vision seems to be just a slight bit clearer this morning. Today I have to go the hospital to keep an appointment with nuclear medicine. They'll draw some blood so they can tag the white cells. Tomorrow they'll inject the blood back in then do a bone scan to see if the tagged cells congregate anyplace. They'll go to wherever an infection is present. I had a regular bone scan some time back but this one is much more detailed. Comparing the two would be like comparing a drawing of a house done by a 5 year old to a drawing done by a professional architect. The difference can be that dramatic. Some bad news on the parent's home front. Last night my mother had to be taken to the ER for examination and observation. She fell and cracked her head again. It doesn't look to be as serious this time but they're not taking any chances.

Good morning all,

Sue while you were off I posted a few pictures of my creek.  I’m working on some of the background images and still doing some touch-ups.  I’ve added ducks, geese, and swans and some more brush, but you get the idea of the creek.  I managed 5 pours to get the depth.

Good "cool" morning.  Its another cool morning here is western PA.  Sun, and no rain.

Well the Steelers won, but they have the Broncos (4-0) next week.   I might make a trip to a LHS to get some track, etc.....

Lee......Good look river.  What did you use for the pour?

Jeff.....Sorry about your mom.  I hope she gets better.  A fall of any kind is bad.

Well I guess I will pop back in later.

 Good morning, everyone!

It is a bright and sunny, but cold fall day here in northern Germany.

Flo, as it is lunchtime over here, may I have a junior  version of the steak Barry had yesterday? And my daily dose of RBF, please.

So this is my last day in the Stalag - tomorrow morning I will warm up my old Merc and drive home. You bet I will not be missing this place! Food has improved, but the whole place is just - arrrg!

The process of folding up our current life is an awkward and very painful process for Petra and me. I am so grateful that she is standing by her man instead of running away. I do hope to find the right words to tell her... Shy Hopefully there will be no debts left, once the house and all other "wordly" possessions have been sold. It´ll be a long way to go, though.

Have a good one - all of you!

P.S. How´s Sawyer  doing? Any news on the swine flu?

Robby, Parks two part epoxy urethane kit. Todd, Those are the needle point tweezers that stay closed.  I picked up one with a 30 Degree bend, and two 90 degree bend.

Sue, I spend Sunday just assembling rolling stock and/or swapping couplers.  I think I did good on the rolling stock; in 1974 a Train Miniature box car cost $4.50, most of the rolling stock I bought was $5/each. The milk cars are Craftsman Kits and cost me $42 for two kits.

Garry, Only two trips, LOL.  I bought a few of those cloth shopping bags from JoAnn Fabrics, they work out really well.

Jim, I’m still putting stuff together, LOL.  I have all of the Roundhouse and Athearn kits assembled and sitting on the main line waiting coupler adjustments.  Maybe tonight I’ll get the IMEX Gorre and Daphited Box car assembled.

Yesterday I: Cut the grass, and finished building:3, Branchline 40’ SWIFT reefers2, Roundhouse 50’ PRR Express Reffers1, Superior South Shore & Atlantic 40’ Box Car2, C&O for Progress 35’ TrailersRepainted a Rio Grande GE 44T switcherUpdated my MRR inventory spreadsheetRemoved markings on 3 CaboosesRe-painted 9 hoppers
