Barry - a lot has been written about Marklin´s lack of detail or quality, but one has to remember, that this loco was first made 45 years ago. Mine is still in a mint condition and performs just like a jewel right out of the box, after being stored for more than 20 years. IIRC, the price was something like $ 75, when my wife bought it for me...
It would be utterly unfair to compare it with LifeLike, Tyco or any other brands of those days...

Good morning. Coffee please. Slept in this morning, I guess I was supposed too. Anyway got about ¾ in rain last night, supposed to rain again this afternoon. Looks like all week too.
Garry- BIL is in my thoughts and prayers this morning.
Jim- You sound like me with the downloaded MRH magazine (I guess we still call it that). I don't know where all my time goes. I also haven't gotten to another paper of sorts that is setting in the unread file. I don't seem to have problems getting through the MR mag. Of course considering the room it's usually in...... I didn't want to say it first but since you already did , I'm not the greatest either at Identifying locos. In fact, couldn't probably tell the diff between a GP-40 and a -2 or a 8-40CW, a C44-9W, and a AC4400. (I don't know how they do it with all the little differences between models and then the modifications. Oy Vay as Barry would say.) Oh well I guess. BUT, I did guess either a GP-18, or yup, a GP-7.
Lee- The people thing is a grand idea. Obvious, you'd think, but apparently not to me. Keeps the woozy tilt from happening, unless I use the permanent type glues. Which I have. And what's a Pan...... Oh ho ho, you almost got me! Thanks JR!

Ulrich- Glad you're home from Stalag and sorry the problems didn't go away, but they say you can't pick the prettiest Rose without dealing with the thorns. I hope your thorns are few. FANTASTIC! I'm glad you kept that E94. Never let it go. Mainly for the sentimental reasons, but as hope and determination that things will get better. You are already planning on a comeback. And with a treasured gift that signifies the anniversary of a new beginning with Petra. Great! Perfect!!!! Wow! Keep that as a symbol, put it on the shelf on display. Tell Petra this is our future and what it means. It's a sign Ulrich, it's a sign of hope! Now if PC would just bring out that last great act of defiance picture again, you could put it next to the loco and look at that everyday and drive on, as they used to say! I'm excited.
Jeff- Good luck today. How's the eyes doing today? And considering the size of your place wouldn't just about any place would be huge and empty?! ( I know what you mean)

Front's moving through here in Cape Girardeau, so you folks up the Ohio Valley will be getting your gardens dowsed before too much longer. It's moving fairly quickly, so as long as you're on high ground (or have good drainage) you should be okay. Jeff, you may want to check how much of this you'll be getting in Louisiana. Hope your parents got a good head start on this front, so they don't have to drive in the rain for long. And I hope (unlike some trips I've had to a doctor's office) your visit stays on time and brief as possible!
Chris (and Rob), on THAT heliport, one of our hospitals here used to have a small fire truck and a shed (for the chopper in between runs), but now both hospitals have a contract deal with an air ambulance service that's based out of our local airport (a bit south of town). So Rob could get away with the pad itself (and windsock, orange ball things on any power lines), and claim they used some contract air ambulance like that. Of our two hospitals here, one's helipad is on the top level of a parking garage (which basically is reserved for the helipad), which has a door at that level directly into the hospital. The other hospital has their pad outside the ER (and next to their parking garage). Figured that might help. Of course, other than a bad car wreck in our outlying areas, most of the chopper traffic is transporting the patient to St. Louis to a bigger hospital.
PC, I guess I'm a cager also. But I'm okay with that to safely get me from one place to another (and doubly so in wet or nasty/cold weather). When the roads get slick, I like four contact points to slide around on... Nice photo with your bike, by the way, and hope your doctor's visit gets the 'brain fluid' drained off without making you any less smart...
Ulrich, one thing to keep in mind is that this is only a temporary, transitional part of your life, not a permanent thing. I had a spell of two previously in my life when 1) I was living out of my car (most belongings in a storage shed) and spending a night here at one friend's, another at another friend's home; and 2) I had a period of time when I was on food stamps (when I was underemployed/unemployed). But God pulled me through those times, and taught me more how to depend on Him. I am praying that He will get you through these times also. Keep that beautiful Marklin electric, as a reminder that you will be rebuilding your RR empire. Oh, please thank Petra for that delicious strudel! (Can they ship a bigger boxcar next time? I know with these chowhounds, one boxcar load may not last long in here...)
Robby, how's your sleeping and appetite been? I'm sure that late/early shift (depending on how you look at the hours) has been an adjustment of its own. Maybe you haven't been getting enough MRR'ing time in? Perhaps if you see your doctor, he/she will give you a note for your wife for that beach trip that was suggested?
Barry - how far along are you on the gazillions of trestle bents that you will need? You have some kind of count to w**k toward, right? Otherwise, you could go into business and sell off the excess ones... And yeah, you probably will get that rain later today or tonight, from the way this thing's tracking here.
JR, good to hear you got the settlement on the Focus, and you're in the right business to tend to it now, for sure! You'll get the rest of your stuff moved once they get the downstairs of your house done, I'm sure.

Days are really getting short - it is just after 7 p.m. and it is already dark outside. I don´t mind cold weather in fall and winter, but the lack of daylight really gets me!
Made a list of railroad books which I can hopefully sell. I have two books published by the long gone Prussian Ministry of Transport in 1911, called "The Railways of Today" Volume 1 and 2. They are most likely the only copies still existing. I hope to get some $$$ for them, although books don´t really have a value, unless they are medieval bibles...
Some of the w..k I need to do is really painful to me, but it must be done, before we can rise out of the ashes again - it is so tiring.

Wife took her dad to the denstist today for a tooth extraction. I can hardly see him surviving that in his condition, but the tooth really had to go. She will stay with him tonight to make sure there are no complications. Hope she doesn't give him this annoying cold.
On her heliport, she wants it on the hospital roof, but I think she might want to consider placing it on ground level. There is room for it down there. (((Thanks for the wind-sock reminder))).

Sure glad you are home and back in the Diner. Just a thought from your last post, sometimes these things mean something. You talked about rising from the dust, well wasn't it the Phoenix that did that? Maybe that is an indication that you and Petra should settle in Arizona (Phoenix). Housing prices are probably better there than anywhere over here right now. But don't let anyone try to sell you some "ocean front property" as you would be along way from floating that yacht of your dreams there. Just the musings of an old Phart. And thank that dear lady of yours for the strudel, I could smell it while you were still putting it in that 40 footer.

Get lots of rest, you have really been over extending yourself this last year. We are not getting any younger and need that more. I used to work off a job list all the time (30 years ago) and I really liked it. Adding new items to the bottom and strocking finished jobs off the list, it really worked well for me. Now I get tired just making the list. Hope the FIL pulls through all these trials and both you and your wife gets these colds out of the way quickly.

It has rained part of everyday for the last while and more forcast for the next couple and then snow flurries towards the week-end. (OH joy) But it will put a smile on those skiers faces. Still another 1 & 1/2 hours at work this afternoon then I am out of here till Friday. Going to start to get those walls back together in the basement and the sonner that is done the sooner the "Wobbly" will be in business again. I really hate not being able to run some trains.

Well, the Wife escaped this morning, made it as far as Stanwood ( 5 miles west), then turned around, came home, promptly went back to bed and has been asleep pretty much ever since. I added an additional level of plastic and more duct tape... I'm still holding-off this head cold crud she brought home...but today it feels like someone/something is pressing on my head, from the forehead to upper jaw. THAT and my ears keep plugging up...more so than usual.
On the chopper pad ideas for ROB, I should clarify a bit, we send our Engine to the ambulance garage's pad when they're bringing in the bird. JIM's example of a rig based at the pad is probably pretty rare. I have seen where large extinguishers on a two-wheel cart have been parked at or nearby the pad. I'm not sure when it became S.O.P. to have an Engine Company on standby for take-off/landings. We had a policy where we'd put two guys in full turnout gear, with air-packs, and a charged hoseline. It always seemed to me, we were asking the bird to crash just beyond the reach of the 150' hose. Now, we just send the Engine, with guys ready to either pull a line or ride to where it augered-in at...
At w**k today, I met a fiesty 88 year old lady. Her farm has been in the family, continuously, for 155 years. She killed a coon a few weeks back...with a sledgehammer.
Progress is being made on a small fleet of XTRA hoppers, thanks to Microscale's new decal set. The hopper I built 2 or 3 years ago is now half-way done. The RI hopper recently converted needs to have a few parts fabricated for it yet; and a third hopper has been re-assigned. I took a FOOBIE MDC-Roundhouse hopper, stripped it (91% ETOH w**ked like a charm!), repainted it, and now it's joining the fleet as well. I figure to either acquire or rebuild a few more for a block of hoppers for occassional appearances on the future layout, from the Shellsburg Co-Op to ADM via the Iowa Northern utilizing trackage rights on the 4th St. Corridor. Yep...gotts to have a plan.
Speaking of plans, ULRICH: Yes, by all means KEEP that loco! For ALL of the reasons the rest of the crew beat me to. During especially desperate times here, when I was selling-off stuff right and left, there were and are things I am absolutely forbidden to even think about think about selling. From the sounds of it, I think your lovely wife would put you back in the hospital if you tried to sell it. I've had times where the wolf wasn't just at the door...he was sitting in my kitchen with Rerun, having a cup of coffee!!!!! You'll get through this. I hope you are able to start a new life over here. Even with the crap going on in America, there are still opportunities out there. As for having to take welfare, that's exactly what it's there for: lending a helping hand to somebody truly in need. There is absolutely no shame in that. Keep your head up, we're with you.
Speaking of Rerun...it sounds like maybe he's trying to chase down the MOUSE living in our house. He has been given strict orders to find it, and destroy it. I suspect, he and the useless cat sit around and play records when we're gone... But, I'd best see what the ruckus is...

Zoe I think the stuffed peppers sounds like a winner. I'll hve that and a trip to the salad bar along with a large Dr. Pepper. Yep I'll be at my usual seat at the Rivet Counter.
Had a fairly nice day here. Sun showed it's face most of the time although the clouds have moved in and should supply some liquid sunshine tonight and tomorrow. I took the chance to take some photos of the old family quilt from my Mother's side of the family. I think it dates back to the late 1800s. My son (the family historian) thinks it is from the 1860s, but some of the names on the quilt weren't born yet....... I only had a window of opportunity to be able to get the sun in the right position to take the photos for about an hour and a half during the afternoon. Got half of it done. It has enough resolution that I can see the individual threads in the quilt. Hope that should do it for him! Have to call my sister tonight to check on some of the names though. Each one is hand stitched into the quilt and they are a bit hard to decipher at times....
Also got another face cord of wood stacked. One left for tomorrow.
Chris, hope your wife gets to feeling better soon and that you manage not to come down with the same thing......

We're getting dribbled on right now---it was sunny up to an hour ago while Audrey and I took advantage of that time and took a walk in some fallen leaves in our neighbourhood. We even got into a leaf fight---she won!! Then I started up our BBQ---and we now are finishing off the chicken breasts that I marinated last night---
Ray: Audrey is kind of curious---what does it look like? What is the pattern?---Audrey uses dowels to keep the folds from getting too folded on ours----
Hopefully Jeff is doing well----some of those tests may take a little longer if there are test issues---my last one that they done in nuclear med with the cesium ions took about 3 to 4 hours to really complete---and that was a couple of years ago--

Barry, I typically lay out the pieces on the spray booth for several kits; all the black parts get sprayed on Monday, silver on Tuesday etc... So I may have a burst of completed cars, but there was a week’s worth of painting and prep work.

Robby, I live NE of Cleveland by about 11 miles or just north of mile post 171 on NYC (CSX) Chicago line. Yes and this weather is approved for PA, LOL. It’s 2015 and the wind is picking up, no rain yet.
Todd, I use the Micromark Krystal Klear glue for figures, works great, I put enough down to cover the feet up to the ankles. When it dries you can’t see it.

The operator said she got all great shots though and my foot doctor should have some news for me Thursday. I hope they can get this thing nailed down. I have to go see my Primary Care Physician tomorrow morning about my lab results.

My sister is the "keeper of the Quilt" at this time. She has no idea who all these people are. Unfortunately we never had my Mom go over all this before she died. She could tell you every one. No one in the family knows who these people are except they were my Grandfather Cooley's family. A few names I remember hearing as a little kid........ We are hoping that my son Matt can find information from records on line and give us dates and who they were. I know that the earliest should have been immigrants from Germany back in the 1800s.
My sister keeps the quilt hanging over her railing at the top of her stairs.

Well our good weather is truly over and now we are paying for the warmest September on record with temps for the next week of mid-40's which is about 10 below normal. --- Johnboy, stop sending it!!!
Have been quite busy lately so little RR stuff and only time to read a few posts. We have just finished our fall market at work where we display the spring merchandise. I don't have a lot to do but have to be in attendance as it is a 'big deal' for the company. We had over 400 suppliers there and managed to fill our convention centre. I find it tiring so I guess I'm getting old.
Ray, last week you posted that clip about the CN mike. Boy, did the sound of that wistle take me back!! Mikes were the main CN freight steam and I remember seeing lots of them on the mainline near where I grew up.
Jeff, hope all works out well from those tests you had and glad to hear that antibiotic worked. Infections can be tricky and dangerous. I know only to well as a few years ago my wife had to go to Emergency every 8 hours for an intra-veinous drip as she developed a bad infection after a really minor surgery.
I have managed to put on a few couplers over the past week usually late at night. I put Micro Trains ones on a Model Power Pacific and on a BMan Light Mountain. Certainly different working in N. Trains are at a stop on the layout but I hope to get something done this weekend as it is a long one for us NOB. Hope may be the operative word as I expect the one who must be obeyed will have plans.

Rob, I guess if the tooth's in really bad shape, it may be necessary to pull it so it doesn't cause worse problems (linfection or other stuff). I was thinking, depending on how big/small of a hospital operation your wife's will be, you could have a couple of firefighter types with fire extinguishers standing by. I'm sure if you can't find someone who makes them, DerJohn could post and show us (by tomorrow morning) how to make one... Ah, I see on the helipad suggestions that Chris beat me to it.

Chris, I don't know that our hospitals have had fire engines present (of course, for the one with the helipad on the top of the parking garage, that might be hard to get the truck to, given the lower clearance in the levels getting to the roof...). I think I have seen one of those two-wheeler extinguishers at the other hospital (closest to my place), though. Never saw the 'garage' one close enough to tell much of any details. Hey, on Rerun, maybe either he or the cat found the mouse (already dead), and they're fighting over who gets to take credit/honors for catching the critter... And you keep on trying not to catch whatever creeping crud your wife has.
Ray, sounds like you're doing a great job on the quilt so far. Keep it up (once the sun returns ot the Finger Lakes area), and the whole family will be grateful for your w**k (hopefully). After looking at the quilt pics, that was one old quilt, all right. The one 'plain' square sure looks different from the rest of them, though.
Barry, I'm wondering if Jeff's doctor/technician/whoever was running way behind (as some doctors' offices do at times). That might be what's happening. The other thing might be if his folk's internet went down, since he is at their place probably, dog-sitting (or was that dogs and cats?).
Ah, Jeff, I see you're back - were they running late to get your 'photos' done? Those large 'donut holes' don't feel so large when it's yourself going into it, do they? Mine didn't.

I was pleased to see my on-call check was bigger than expected - just wish I didn't have to spend so much time at the ER in the middle of the night to get all those 'big bucks' ...
Want to get back to my tracklaying. After a suggestion from Lee (I think it was you, right?), I may just swap around some of my turnouts so I don't have to get much of any just yet. I still need to treat daughter, S-I-L and World's Greatest Grandson to dinner, and there's a mat cutter that I didn't get last paycheck (partly due to messed up (sorry there, Fergie!) Saturday schedule when I had intended to buy it (used, $50). Hope the place still has it...
Also on my list will be getting the w**kbench/DR table cleared off so I can also get back to some buildings that I've delayed on too long, and that gondola I'm redoing for ATSF. Let's see, and...

All the benchwork is there and most of the track is down. It is the fact that the floor moved so much that it all has to be re-leveled and elevations checked. Darn Big Job in a 13 x 17 foot area . I had made some allowance for some of that with adjusters on the legs, but believe in some cases the legs will have to be removed and shortened. Sure hope there are no kinks now. It operated so smooth before the mud jacking. However will not get to that for awhile as the bedroom and storage area has first priority and there is alot of work there. I start there in the morning as it is still raining and yard work won't get finished tomorrow it seems.

Jeff, I see your parents are going to be in my neck of the woods for a while. I live just a couple miles from Little Buffalo on the opposite side from Newport.
I met Bob (Duke) at the East Broad Top in July. We spent the day riding the train, took a shop tour, and walked around the grounds. We spent some time talking to folks from Friends of the East Broad Top that were helping to restore the buildings and equipment. Learned a lot of new things about my favorite RR and had a great time with Bob.
My future raildroad room remodiling has been put off till spring. Too many other progects to get done before the weather gets could. Already told asked the CFO to give it top priority in the spring.
Well, coworkers are starting to arrive, better get to the grindstone. Just 44 days after today then it's hello ORF.

Just a regular in my New Haven togo mug please. No trains last night but did get knobs on the kitchen cabinets and the start of book shelves in the den plus the broken suspension off the Focus.
Jeff - hope the tests are useful. I much prefer "tubing" in the MRI - nice nap time
Garry - hope the operation went well and the BIL recovers fully.
