Ray, that's a really neat vid!!!
I think I'll join Barry at the RC for a while
Evening all from BalmyCal:
Temperature here was a nice, sweet 84 today, about seasonal normal. The next four days or so are supposed to be in the '70's here in the Valley, with '40's and '50's in the Sierra, and even a chance of--gasp!--SNOW! in the higher elevations.
My, that would be nice.
Nothing much on the MR front today--'tinkered' with an old Akane USRA Heavy 4-6-2 that I have been neglecting for some time. Gorgeous little loco and when it's in the mood, runs like a jewel. Unfortunately, her trailing truck collapsed last year and I've never had the inclination to repair it (me and solder are not that good together). However, I did find that the trailing truck from an old Genesis USRA 2-8-2 that I ran once and promptly put back in the box, works just fine. So now, my USRA has a trailing truck and spent the afternoon happily hauling a short passenger around the layout.
Okay, she's a Heavy USRA and prototypically, I have no reason at all to have her on the layout--the Rio Grande Pacifics were totally different--but I got her for $25 about thirty years ago at a swap-meet because I liked her looks, and she's always been a very dependable runner.
So--it's nice to have her back on the layout. She's a real sweetie.
Other than that, the day consisted of taking Uff-Dah to the Vet for his quarterly athsma shot (THAT was fun!) and finding out that he's gained a pound. And lots and LOTS of hair. My Vet said "I've been reading up on these cats, and they're supposed to be MELLOW." "Not around YOU," I grinned. Actually, Uff-Dah was relatively civilised, today. Took his shot like a good little Viking. Promptly threw up in the cat-cage. Disappeared for an hour after I brought him home, then came out and whacked my leg. He's fine, now. Wish I could say the same about my leg, LOL!
Went and got new glasses fitted to the tune of $400. Unfortunately, I need two sets--one for normal use and the other for playing the piano. Gotta delve into the Family Fortune for THAT one! However, the students will be very happy that "Doc" followed their wishes and got big Geeky black horn-rims. Now I'll look like everyone else on campus, but just a lot older.
Ray: That video was AWESOME! (So, BTW, are your photos in WPF). I've always thought that CN had some of the prettiest 2-8-2's ever made. And LOVE that sharp exhaust.
Well, have to get stuff ready for Mass tomorrow (which means going in and practicing the music).
Oh, BTW, here's a photo a student of mine gave me yesterday. I think it's just bizarre. I love it!
Best to all, prayers to those in need.
Tom
PS: Anyone heard from either Jeff or Ulrich? I'm getting worried.

Mornin folks, Scrambled eggs, loose, bacon and coffee please. Thanks. Today: Cloudy, with a high near 54. West wind between 11 and 14 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. Tonight: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 40. West wind between 5 and 9 mph.
Don't know what will transpire on the MRR front today. Hopefully something later in afternoon. First I have to attend a little get together with my Mother, Aunt and a couple of cousins one of them is visiting from Salt Lake City. That takes off at 11 soooo...... We'll see what transpires. Yesterday got one panel cut and the frame for another completed. Well that's not true, I cut one too short. So I have to make another.
Ray- Great video. Wish there were more steam running on the tracks.
Well best get moving, with all the stops that have to be made we'll be lucky if we make it by 11. And it's just on the south side of Springfield.
Have a Great Day!!!
Good morning, All. Chloe I will have my usual coffee and a cinnamon roll.
Thanks for your concern, guys. They are treating me for a sinus infection first. If that does not manage the problem, the next step will be a cat scan. The weird thing is that they don't happen every day.
On a more positive note, I finished the stream bed. If I find a spurt of energy, I will try to get a photo.
Later, Sue
Anything is possible if you do not know what you are talking about.
Mornin' everyone!
Flo, how 'bout about an egg and Canadian Bacon on an English Muffin this morning. I'm feeling very international today. Oh, yes, I do need a mug (maybe 2) of dark roast coffee in a FGLK mug. Thanks! I'll be at the Rivet Counter with a couple others as they show up.
Hey Barry! Did you finally shut off the rain? There is a big yellow thing up in the sky with a preponderance of brightness outside..... Oh, just tempoary and the wetness should be back tomorrow.....
The guy with the firewood called early this morning before I got out of bed, I called back no answer, so I left a message for him to call me back. Phone tag, a game for our times!
Glad you folks liked the video! I watched it about 10 times last night. What a great show that old 1917 2-8-2 puts on. She has been in the shop for some repairs and refurbishing this summer. Don't know whether she is scheduled to do the Fall Specials or if that will fall to the Pacific? I hope they get a couple more back on the road at Steamtown. They have been working on a couple for some time now.
Best get moving, so I'll catch you all later.
Much to my chagrin.......the furnace has been turned on. Too chilly in the house for me.
Sue- I sure hope they figure out your ailment quick. Looking forward to the pictures of the stream bed.
Afternoon...Its cloudy and a chilly 52 here....I'll have a RBF please...Thank You...Still no news on Jeff?...I am watching the Cards game on the tube..Sallie isn't feeling well today..I am bidding on some engines on E-bay but they don't end till Sunday and they are at the top of what I think they are worth..Oh well...This is my B-man Doodle bug..I have had it since I went into N scale it was unpainted..I traded shells with a feller on N scale yard sale for this UP maybe one of these days I'll get around to putting I&S decals on it...Its just right to haul miners....You all have a good one...Jerry
Hello ...
Grandkids are here from Cincinnati this weekend. They brought their parents. The wooden trains are all over the floor in the big room downstairs.
We tried Ryan's recipe for enchaladas. Wow! I recommend you try it. Contact Ryan for recipe.
Hope to see Jeff back in the diner soon. Has anyone had a status report?
Ditto for Rob and Ulrich.
Cal Tom ......... I'm glad you are enjoying those brass engines. Akane, eh? Now that's a name from the past.
Ray ..... I like your great pictures in WPF.
Robby .......That is a nicely weathered covered hopper in WPF.
Jerry .... The UP doodlebug looks good!
Sue ...I hope you feel better!
Cheers everybody ....

Waited all day for a call back from the guy bringing firewood over. Finally about 4:30 he called, then came right over. Bought 4 face cords (16") of mixed hardwoods. Got about one cord stacked already.
Heartland Division CB&QRay ..... I like your great pictures in WPF.
Thank you Garry and the others who have mentioned the photos. I like to have people enjoy my work.
Started to put together some Tichy Train Group Flatcar kits today waiting for the wood to arrive. Looks like they will go together nicely!
OK Dinner is here so I'll catch you all later!
Hi Ray! Excuse my ignorance, but what heck does the '73' signify?
Darn sure its not your IQ . Love your pics.. and wish I had your talent.

Finally got out of the hospital today after being held incommunicado for 6 days. I had a bad infection in my right foot. This was one they'd never seen before and it required a really tough antibiotic to knock it out. They said I'd need to continue the treatment at home for a few weeks and fixed me up with a IV port right into my heart just for this purpose. It's nice to be back home where I can select a channel I want to watch instead of having to look at one that has this country's great leader splashed all over it most of the time.

Jeff: Great to hear you're out of that hospital----and to see your posts again!!!

Welcome back Jeff! .......... If you can find some old TV programs such as Mickey Mouse Club, Bozo the Clown, or the Flintstones ........ it may be more intelligent and informative than what you have been watching.
Evening, Janie, just a go cup of hot cocoa, please 'n' thank you. Got to keep this brief before the battery goes down on me, and I have to head back home.
Sue, hope they get your sinus thing figured out, and I'll [ditto] the other remarks about looking forward to your photos of the river.
Still reading through the posts, but no sign of news on Jeff or Ulrich (and I'm guessing Rob is still recuperating, right?). Maybe I'll find the info in a page or two (or three..)
Jerry, how's that chair coming along? That looks like a sharp Doodlebug, all right and good luck on your eBay bids.
Calif.Tom - Uff-Dah behaved himself (mostly), eh? And cool glasses, huh? Hey, doesn't he remember how long it took your leg to heal up the last time you got it injured? Careful, there, little Viking!
Ray, I'll have to go see your WPF photos, as I know they'll be 'drool-able'... How hard are those Tichy flatcars compared to some other kits?
JEFF!! I knew they couldn't keep you down forever (well, maybe with a half-dozen of their more burly nurses, perhaps). They had rather limited TV channels there, eh? Another reason I don't watch a lot of TV... (Right, Garry?)
Was out last night due to editing a profile - I decided to see about the Christian matchmaking site deal again... So far, either my searches turn up no one in this area (if I use strict matching), or I get gals from way too far away, or a foot or more shorter than me...)
Today was the garden pizza party at our LHS owner/MRR club member's house. He's done a lot with his G scale outside layout - had buildings, figures, cattle, a few bison, small yard and a passing siding. Soon after I got there, a branch fell down on part of his layout (a small branch, at least). I ate too much pizza (and couple of delicious brownies, and a Ding-Dong...) and sodas, so I'm skipping the offer by Flip for dinner. Hey, Flip, can I take a raincheck for a steak dinner tomorrow night?
Time for me to get going. I'll see you all tomorrow after church! And somebody get the bloodhounds ready, 'cause we may need them to find where Ulrich has disappeared to lately. Ulrich?? Yep, chapel car is still next door, we'll keep that one active.
Blessings and prayers,
Jim in Cape Girardeau
Here is a get well present for Jeff.........
JimCG ....... Best wishes regarding the Christian matchmaking. I'm sure the Lord has a plan. Be ready.
Hey, I like that get well present.
Along about Thursday I was ready to get out of that place. They had to but install the central line and I would be out. However nobody was able to get to it that day. Friday all the surgeons took a powder and again there was nobody available to do it. Today (Saturday) I was told there wouldn't be anyone available to do it until Monday. At this point I was really getting ticked off and my Indian half was making itself well known. Around noon today they came up with a surgeon and had the whole procedure over and done with at the bedside in less than 20 minutes. Inside of three hours later I was driving home, very happy to be putting many miles between me and the realm of doctors and nurses.
Sounds like the old run-around game. Or- Its no my job. Someone else can do it.
Just get well- We all missed you. Now its Ulrichs turn to get well.
Jeff:
Glad you're back home. IV stint for Antibiotics, huh? Went through that last year with the Staph infection from my leg. Not fun but it works in the long run. Prayers for you.
My theory for getting better: Watch a lot of NCIS, CSI Miami and LAW AND ORDER. Oh, yah, CRIMINAL MINDS isn't half-bad, either. It's starting to 'grow' on me, especially Spencer the Boy Genius Geek. He's a kick in the pants.
But most of all, take care of yourself and be GOOD to yourself. We missed you, buddy.
My first drop in here at the diner, but just had to tell you Jeff, that I've been down the stint process as well in summer of '08, and it's not a bad deal. I had good fortune to be in a hospital with a well trained team of specialist nurses who do the insert on a regular basis. They even brought in a couple of student nurses to watch the process. Kinda scarry when they tell you what they're going to do, but the doing of it was a breeze as you now know. Cleared up a nasty bladder/urinary tract infection at home and the only issues was keeping my wife focused on the process of administering the antibiotic every 12 hours. Could have done it myself, but seemed she she ought to know how to do it so if it got messed up, I could blame her
You'll do fine, and best wishes.
I'll pick up chili-cheese fries to go, and don't forget the chopped onions.
How about a Ding Dong and a glass of milk please.
JEFF!!!!!! Missed ya! I knew you's probably going into the hospital but gee whiz didn't think it'd be that long. We were getting pretty worried there hoss. Take it easy for a bit and NO MOWING! Or anything else you shouldn't be doing. At least til you get that IV thing out. ( I know the big fancy name for it. Just can't think of it now) Somehow I think that may have been a waste of my breath. Bet you're ready for a chicken and rib dinner yourself after the hospital food. Or are you lucky like the one hospital in Springfield to have really good food (the other one's food causes the visitors to check in)
JIm- Some day, when you least expect it, she'll be standing right there. Maybe, there have to be a few things worked out yet for either you or her we don't realize yet.
Well better get ready for bed. I knew I shouldn't have skipped church last week. Tomorrow, I promised Brenda, we'd go on the Spoon River Drive. She really enjoys it and besides, looks like harvest is starting so this will be the last weekend she'll have for who knows how long this year.
Prayers for health, recovery, loss and finding companionship.
Ooops sorry mreagent
Well it is bed time so, girls, just a chocolate chip cookie and a glass of moo juice. Don't need any technicolor dreams tonight.
JEFF, you old dog, welcome back. You had a lot of us here scratching our heads about what was going on down there. The top choice was that they had used you for Catfish bait. Sure gald you are home, but do take it easy. You really don't give those feet much rest, DO YOU ??
Lets hope and pray for our other two buddies Rob and Ulrich to hit the deck running real soon.
SUE, my son in Grande Prairie AB., is going through the same thing as you are. He is scheduled for a cat scan on the 6th. Hope you are feeling better real soon as well.
Gerry, Give our best to Sallie, we hope she is feeling better by this evening.
No MMR news right now. What a mixed up summer and fall this has been.
Rained here again tonight and the weather guesser just said that Calgary got a skiff of snow today and we might get a little later in the week
Off to get some ZZZZzzzzssss. Will try and check in tomorrow.

Good Morning,
I am back - not in a good shape, but back. My mobile internet service is not working any longer (cannot pay the bill any more), so I was unable to come to Elliot´s Diner the past days. I found an internet cafe, so I can check my e-mails and pay a visit to my friends in this place.
Times are really rough at the moment for Petra and me - I hope we will make it through this period of our lives without any harm to body and soul.
Next week I will be out of the Stalag and will be a frequent guest here again, providing that my regular internet service is still working...
Glad to see that Rob and Jeff are back, also - I was worried. Sue - hope to see you here more often, once your headaches are gone.Sawyer - I hope that swine flu is loosening its grips on you by now - like to see more of your videos!
My for all of you.
Good morning. It's 73 and cloudy. The high will be around 77 and there's a chance of rain.Yeah, I'm back again. A week long stay in the hospital has made me appreciate the freedom of being at home again. The heavy course of antibiotics they had me on has left me partially blinded but they say that will pass in a few weeks. I'm waiting for Home Health to show up today to administer today's round of antibiotics via iv. It's something called ceftriaxone and has to be administered over a period of 21 days.
