Jim.......Just getting some cavities filled in.  I didn't go to the dentist for about 6 years, and its caught up with me.  I don't have anything major, just minor stuff.   As far as drool, well I'm just eating soft stuff for now.  Last time I was numb for 6 hours!!

PC......I was wondering if thats where Jeff was.  I'm sure he's doing ok.

I've been working on a "Corning" 2-bay hopper all week and its about done.  I will have it posted in the WPF.

 Everybody have a good afternoon.

About time for some lunch, Ms. Zoe - I'll have a BLT, cheesey fries and a RBF for lunch. Thanks!

Johnboy, sorry to hear about your MIL passing, but from some of what you described, she'd had a good life and was ready to go. Prayers for the rest of the family (especially the grandkids). Hope your rain actually lets up for a bit here and there, instead of being continuous for that long.

We're all the way up to 70 F (what is that, about 23 C?) here in Cape Girardeau, and it's sunny. But the local weatherfolks are saying some rain and t-boomers tonight possibly. So heads up, you Ohio Valley Diners (and Garry)!

Want to check at the post office today over lunch and see if the new MR has arrived yet. Anybody else get theirs yet?

Sue, I hope they do get your headaches fixed up for you soon, if you've been having them most all of Sept. Are you having migraines, or just killer headaches? Either way, will put you on the AngelAngel list. Any progress on the layout over the summer?

PC - thanks for the info on Jeff, and keep us posted if/when you hear more. Thumbs Up

Robby, I guess if it's only (a lot of) minor stuff, that's "not as bad", eh? As you said, beats being numb for 6 hours...

Kinda wondering what's up with Ulrich - still no word on his day/evening...

Blessings,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Good afternoon,

PHILLIP: Very sorry, and sadened to hear of your friend's passing. It is always painful to hear of the loss of someone in public safety...and to lose such a fine officer so young. Though police and fire traditionally have their differences, we do mourn the loss of our law enforcement "cousin."

RAY: On a much happier note, that is an awesome pic you tacked up of the farm!Bow

TODD: I hear ya, and I agree (mostly). When the guy first moved in, we tried to be friendly/neighborly, saying "hi" when we'd see him. He never acknowledged us. I guess, some people were just born to be anti-social. So... we just keep an extra eye out for the dog. If it's out, we wait a few minutes for it to go back inside before we take Rerun out. If we keep the dogs seperated, without potential for "interaction," there should be no problems. One of our firefighters is also a councilman. Monday night, I'm gonna bend his ear...might bend it clean off his head.Whistling

I "talked" with Ulrich a day or two ago via e-mail. It sounds like things are going pretty rough for him again. Extra thoughts for him, Jeff, Rob, and all-others in pain, suffering, or dealing with a loss. Angel I think we'd best keep that chapel car handy for awhile yet.

JIM: It is rare I get anything past THAT editor...she's pretty sharp. It's more a question of what will she tolerate vs. what will she flat-out cut. I interviewed the Solon football coach for a sports spectacular which never materialized. Before it, she was helping me to craft questions for him...to fit the theme of the special edition. I was going to ask how/why Solon has become a jaugernaut (sp.) in high school football. She forbid me to use THAT word. I don't know, undefeated for 2 seasons, 2 state titles, a history of rolling over opponents...seemed appropriate to me. But, mine is not to reason why, mine is but to write until I die. As for the hoppers, Athearn seems to be famous for slapping any paint scheme on their PS 4740 hoppers... Then again, at the time, they were the only game in town, as it were. I first discovered the difference between the Athearn hopper and the PS 4750 when I painted/decalled one back in '87. I applied the decals from w**king off a photo. When done, it just didn't look right. Oh, gee... the model has 16 ribs, the real one has 18. DOH! The model has this kinda peaked roof, the real one has this raised thing (the clerestory). DOH!  Like I said, I've got a few more to rebuild once the "proper" replacements have been secured.

Well, time to get back to w**k, I have to write the article from my interview with the Physical Therapist in Solon. The plot thickens... she's had "issues" with Mr. Owner/Publisher...and was allegedly massively mis-quoted by our refugee from the Cedar Rapids Gazette. So.... I had her look over my notes, clarified her quotes, etc. I found her to be very agreeable... maybe I can turn her opinion of our little "rag" around.

Have a good, SAFE rest of the day...

She had a lot of friends in the fire dept., and they're morning the loss too.  All the police cars and fire trucks in town are flying black flags on the vehicles this week.

Well, I've got swine flu.

Don't sweat it Pal, one of my nieces had it a few weeks ago, she's back to 100%. For the young and healthy, it's not much more than a nasty upper respiratory infection. More hype/fear by the drive-by media than anything.

PC: That's a nice touch, Fire and PD both showing the black flags/banners/ribbons. Sounds like a class act.Thumbs Up

It's cold, windy, and very rainy here...'sposed to be again tomorrow too. For once, I hope I don't have to go shoot a football game. THAT editor called earlier, very happy about many things. Guess they'll keep me for at least another week...Whistling I guess my gray hairs count for something afterall...she said I understand (and implement) things "the young kids we hired in the past" never did. Seems like all "common sense" stuff to me.

Have a good evening, I'll head for a booth in the back so that I can get this bracken-fracken story hammered out...yep, the one I was gonna do a few hours ago.Banged Head

Well, I've got swine flu. idk how often I'll be checkin in the next few days.

Oh, Sawyer, and others that I'd promised this info earlier, my apologies. Here is the info on how to best survive "good ol' H1N1"... (from our nurse at w**k - your boss may not agree with all of these suggestions)

Jim in Cape Girardeau

P.S. I am not a medical person (nor do I portray one on television). Any questions, check with your doctor or nurse practitioner or clinic.

- - - - - - -

WHAT'S YOUR SWINE FLU GAME PLAN?

Signs and Symptoms- This is not like a cold where you can feel yourself starting to get sick. With this virus, you are probably just as sick on day one as you are on day six. You get a fever and chills, and you are glassy-eyed  and uncomfortable for six or seven days. H1N1 symptoms are the same as regular flu symptoms: fever, cough, body aches, chills and sore throat with possible vomiting or diarrhea.

PROTECT YOURSELF

Although there is still no surefire way to protect yourself or our families from H1N1 the CDC urges adults and children to get the seasonal flu shot ASAP. The Swine Flu vaccine is expected this fall. Though the seasonal influenza vaccine WON'T prevent swine flu, it can help reduce the number of potential sick days a family will suffer. You don't want to wind up with BOTH!

DEVELOP A PLAN

Medical experts suggest we stock up on canned soups, equip our kids with plenty of hand sanitizer and start communicating directly with our employers and spouses about what will happen if the flu hits.

1. Because this flu hits fast, compile an emergency "flu" kit. Items to include are Gatorade, cold and flu medication as well as Tylenol/Advil,  and a thermometer.

2. If you have children, have a plan in place for childcare. Because this flu can lost up to 10 days, discuss with your family who will stay home with the child,

3. The predictions are the one out of three people in the US is likely to get this flu, so keep in mind that your family will more than likely be affected, so planning ahead in essential.

DECIDE WHO WILL BE THE CARE-GIVING PARENT

In case a child does fall ill, it is suggested that one parent becomes the caregiver while the other should assume responsibility for preparing food and caring for the rest of the family. A care-giving parent should also consider sleeping separately from the other parent to minimize the virus spread. My son was recently sick, so I created a "quarantine" room. It happened to be my bedroom, but it is just a room where the person who is sick stays put and the healthy stays out.

DON'T COME TO WORK SICK

Please don't think that work is so important that you should come to work if you are potentially contagious. If there are ways that you can work from home, have the plan in mind and how you will make it work. Coming to work sick is not only a risk to you; it puts others at risk - others who may have underlying medical conditions that make the flu much more dangerous. Please keep others in mind when you are sick. Don't go to the grocery store or Wal-Mart if you are contagious! PLEASE STAY HOME!

WHEN TO CALL YOUR DOCTOR

If you are at special risk of complications, contact your doctor as soon as your symptoms begin. Those at increased risk for serious complications include persons who:

1. Are 50 years of age or older

2. Are a resident of a long-term care facility and have chronic medical conditions

3. Have chronic heart or lung conditions, including asthma

4. Have a metabolic disease including diabetes, kidney disease, anemic or other blood disorders.

5. Have a weakened immune system due to HIV/AIDS, cancer treatment or steroid therapy.

6. Are between 6 months and 18 years of age and receive long-term aspirin therapy.

7. Will be in the second or third trimester of pregnancy during flu season.

If you are otherwise healthy and not at increased risk of complications, seek medical advice if your flu symptoms are unusually severe, such as:

1. Trouble breathing.

2. A severe sore throat.

3. A cough that produced a lot of yellow or green mucous.

4. Feeling faint

Also, see your doctor immediately (call first) if you think you might have signs or symptoms of pneumonia (which may include a severe cough that brings up phlegm, a high fever and a sharp pain when you breathe deeply).

For children, do not hesitate to contact your child's doctor if you have concerns about the flu, questions about your child's symptoms, or if you think your child should receive the flu vaccine. Take your child to the pediatrician or to the ER if he or she displays any of the following symptoms:

1. Rapid or labored breathing

2. Bluish skin color

3. Not drinking enough to maintain hydration

4. Not waking up or interacting with others (not talking)

5. Irritability to the point that he or she doesn't want to be held. (Younger children especially)

6. If your child's symptoms improve, but then return, and include a fever and worse cough.

Hope that is useful for avoiding some problems this season...

Sawyer, that bites but Chris is right. It's an overhyped flu. I've been living with 2 people who've had (they claimed swine flu, IDK if they are right or not) it in recent months, I ain't gotten a sniffle yet. Maybe the flu shot I got last year is still in effect or something...

Anyways, I'll be catching up by the RC.

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

Evening, Chloe - I'll have a roast beef sandwich (open face, with the gravy on top), mashed potatoes, side salad with Italian dressing, and a glass of wine, please. Thank you!

Inch, hopefully, your trip back might have a break in the rain. Our weatherguesser here has been saying tonight that part south of here are getting some thunderstorms (not very heavy), but all we have locally in Cape is grey clouds and increasingly humid.

Chris - so, your editor will be more likely to cut than to rewrite whatever's not 'politically correct'? I figured if she did the rewriting, it might be good for a chuckle or two...Whistling How about 'steamroller'? Is that considered un-P.C. now?

Sawyer - rest up, drink lots of Gatorade, and park yourself outside of the bathroom (from what I've heard about it so far). And stay away from the other family members as much as possible so everybody doesn't get sick at the same time... We'll save your place for you.

I'll post seperately the info on H1N1 tips that I didn't get up earlier.

Wasn't any MR issue at the post office when I checked over lunch, but the new Walthers sale flyer was there, and the new RMC issue. How is it that they get theirs out sooner than MR? (Or should I be asking that question on here...?)Oops

Afternoon was pretty good at w**k, my 'two-hour' client was only one hour (as I expected), and that was as well, since another client was having some unexpected stress (involving things he thought had been paid, but apparently hadn't, etc.). My co-w**ker (covering walk-in and crisis today) was actually getting bored!

I'll settle down in the window booth for now and feast on this fine dinner. Dinner

Prayers for those in need of healing, or comfort, or recuperating... and for those we haven't heard from today, including Ulrich, Jeff, and others...

Blessings,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Afternoon all from KindaNormalCal:

Fall temperatures the past several days.  Today was a little warmer--78degrees, but considering what we were dealing with LAST week, it's actually very neat.

We have about 10% of our student body out with whatever's going around.  I don't know if it's Swine Flu or not, but we're being Safe rather than Sorry--if a student comes in feeling sick, we send him to the Dean's Office and the parents come pick him up.  No "Well, he didn't SEEM sick when we sent him off to school, today."  Just come and GET him!

Amazing how students (and a lot of parents) don't realize that they're putting the REST of the student body in Harms Way, especially this year.  Oh well, you keep plugging.

So:  Sawyer, you take care of yourself, buddy.  GOOD care of yourself!  Lots of Chicken Soup.  It works!  Prayers for you.

Well, said Pit Bull doesn't seem to be in the neighborhood, so I don't know whether Dorko Neighbor went over and bailed it out of the Pound or not.  Chester is recuperating, John says Chester is acting as if he's forgotten all about the incident.  He told me that he read somewhere that an expert said that cats have an eight-minute memory.  I just stared at him.  Yah, sure!  Shock

Anyhow, I hope nobody got the impression from that incident that I'm anti-Dog.  Far from it.  Like 'em a lot.  I was raised with them (my dad did a lot of hunting and was an English Setter kinda guy) and IMO you couldn't hope for a better pet--or companion-- than a well-raised dog.   I just tend to connect better with cats.  Just me, understand.

JR:  What, you didn't like the Pink Granite in my tunnel, LOL?  You're right, though.  I didn't realize it until after the photo that I've got to LINE that little puppy with something.  Blush  Where's Photoshop when you need it?   There used to be a company that put out 'curveable' timber tunnel liners in about 3" segments (I've got them in several other tunnels), but I can't find them anymore.  Of course, I could do the same thing with Styrene--DUH!

INCH:  Yah, that logging truck and the car--well, that was mountain roads in Nevada County around the 1940's, LOL!   Stop, back up---stop some more, back up some more--find a wide spot and squeeze by and hope you didn't end up 700 feed down the mountainside--sometimes driving 45 miles in the mountains could take you two days when I was a kid.   We all stuffed sleeping bags into the car trunk.  To say NOTHING of canned food--I thought SPAM was Really Cool Stuff.Tongue

RAY: Those layout photos of yours--I just sat there for about an hour or two and drooled.  Thumbs UpThumbs Up  That jis BEAUTIFUL work, my friend.  Bow

ROB:  Follow the doctor's orders, dang it!  We want you around here for a LONG time!

PHILIP:  My condolences on the passing of your very dear friend.  She was obviously a very valuable person to all that knew her.  I'm adding her to my Parish prayer list.  I really feel for you--it's so difficult for us here when God decides that He needs someone we love.  But it's somehow eventually comforting to know that she's with Him, now.  And everything's better for her.  Again, my sympathies.

Well, Leah, my Choral Partner In Crime had to visit the doctor today during our last period at school, so for the first time this year I was left with 24 Concert Choir members.  Now remember, I wasn't there last year, so for a lot of these guys it was their first Solo "Experience" with "Doc."   And I work "A Capella" (without piano) and they just kind of STARED at me for the first fifteen minutes of the period.  "But Doc, we ALWAYS have you playing the piano."  "Guess what?  Ain't happening, guys."  As soon as the shock wore off of most of them (some of them had me two years ago and were grinning), we got working.  Put the little dears through the wringer.  We were working on an unaccompanited Spiritual "Going to Bethlehem" and though they had the notes, they were extremely 'shy' about getting into it.  I paused them, looked at them and said, "I want TESTOSTERONE, fellows.  Sing it like you had HAIR on your chests!"  They all laughed like crazy, loosened up.  One of my basses grinned at me.  "I can, Doc, I DO!"    They got into the spriit of it.  Rough as heck at first, and I had to pound out some parts for them, but they got the Jist of the song.  They really enjoyed it.  By the time I paused them and said that class was just about over, they were ROCKING!!

It's so nice to be back!  Tongue

Tomorrow's my day off.  Back to the garage and the Sculptamold.

Best to all, prayers to those in need.

Tom Big Smile

hey guys.

Chloe, can I get a O.R. mask.

Packers01, sorry about the swine. I'm supprised my school hasn't been but on quarrentine. About half of all of my classes went to mexico the spring break before swine hit.

No luck on the brass loco kit search. Of course I have been having problems with accessing the internet because of Alpha Antivirus. Beware, it's a dud antivirus scan program. A real pain in the keaster to get rid of. my antivirus program can't pick it up and spyware scans turn up nothing.

has anyone else seen that Faller road system? Cool huh?

Hello ..

Sorry to read about all the ailments.

Sawyer, get well soon.

Sue, you too; that could be flu.

Best wishes to Rob and his wife for their health.

Looking forward to Jeff's return and speedy recovery.

Ulrich ..... I missed hearing from you today. Keep feeling better.

Jim CG ... you talk a lot about the flu ... I had a flu for about ten days in mid September. Killer headache and sore throat. Plus digestive problems if you know what I mean. I took tons of vitamins. Should have seen the doc, but I did not. Maybe, I caught a virus from our computer.

PC ... That is sad about your friend. Thanks for sharing "homesick".

John Boy ... I am sad to learn about your mother in law.

Ray .... I like the latest picture a lot. Thanks for your comment. The engine is a GE 44 ton.

Jim CG ... The caboose is a modified "old timer" caboose by Roundhouse. It is now very close to a branch line caboose once used on the Burlington.

Cal Tom. .... Sounds like the cat is recovering from the attack. We once had a puppy get attacked by a vicious neighborhood dog when we were in MI. The puppy needed tons of stitiches, but recovered eventually.

Inch ... Now that the vote is over, I think we will hav a similar experience. Only a few businesses will sell alchohol.

Philip- My heart and my condolences go out to Leslie's family and you and your wife also. She was a lovely lady. Sometimes I wonder why things happen the way they do and to who it happens. This falls into my category of blind faith. I guess a better description would be trust in the Lord. No I did not know I was quoting but most of my upbringing was teaching by parents who didn't quite but lead by example and put things in laymans terms. They were very religious people. I agree with Jerry on the poem. Thank You for sharing.

Thanks Ray, another great shot!

Johnboy- My condolences to you too. I'm sorry to hear of your loss.

Jim- Naw, rich probably. Too rich for you guys? Never! Nope no MR yet. I probably won't get it til next week. I did get the Walthers flyer and had to chuckle. We were just talking about Stuckey's and guess what showed up in the flyer!

Tom- Nope didn't take it anti dog at all. Anti THAT dog and mainly anti THAT neighbor.... yes.

Garry- yeah, most times reality isn't like all the hype.

Well best be getting to bed. Prayers to all those who are feeling poorly, sick, having troubles and in hospitals (or so we think) and those who have had losses.

Milk, Chloe.

Sawyer: I'm sorry you got the swine flu.

My close family and aunts, uncles, cousins ect. will not get the vaccine as of the moment. My deceased grandfather recived the vaccine back in the first bout in the 70's, and then became temporarily paralyzed below the waist. Once he regained movement, he had to go through three years of therapy. So right now my mom is searching for more reasearch to make sure it is not heredital or anything. Dead

I am happy for one reason right now. This:

Clark's Spout Bubblegum. This stuff is THE BOMB! I love it. A upside of it is that if your drain pipe leaks, stick it on the hole and let dry. After that, the only way to remove it is with this:

The only downside is that it can only be purchased near Halloween, in a certain candy mix.

Either way...

See Yall!

Good morning all,

PC & Johnboy sorry to hear about your loss.

Sawyer, holy Toledo, I wish you a speedy recovery!

I hope things are ok with Jeff and Urlich.

More rain and chilly weather here, but it’s going to be in the 60’s this weekend, and the big train show is in Cleveland this weekend.

Mornin, Zoë can I get a farmer's special and an irish coffee dear. Had a wet trip to the VA docs yesterday, light rain n sprinkles up and heavy goose drowning rain most the way home. Did make it back to the legion meeting and the commander's steak supper on time.

JOHNBOY,,,, thoughts n prayers on your MIL's passing for all the family n friends

SUE,,,, hope ya gets those headaches taken care of. My SIL had problems with them for years. She tried acupuncture, it helped her.

LEE,,,, the local news station has reported lows in the upper 30's this week. So far, I've only had a low of 40 here in the woods. That's cold enough for me.

SAWYER,,, take care n stay in bed.

JIM,,,, I can't see much difference in your list between swine flu n plain ole flu. Stay home get plenty of rest n fluids. Anyway, don't know if I'm gonna bother with another shot or not. Like CHRIS said," its way over hyped in the news".

TWHITE,,,,, your description of the roads out there are kinda like here [minus the 700 ft drop and or 45 mile in 2 day], the farm equipment is way to big for some of model T roads. If you meet one in a car, you're looking for a driveway to pull in.

We go through 2 or 3 cans of Spam a month round here most the time.

Well best gets started on chores, no kids to help me today, so I might be able to get more done and slip in some MRR time. Thoughts n prayers for those n need [sure hope JEFF n ULRICH gets straightens up n back soon' n hope ya'll has a gooden.

Mornin' all!

Thanks for the prayers and well wishes.  I know her family appreciates it, and so do we.

If anyone should feel motivated, please consider a donation to World Hope International (click “Donate Now” at worldhope.org with the comment, “Leslie Hulse Memorial Fund, anti-trafficking”).  This is in accordence with Leslie's wishes.  (It shows her true heart too)

Tomorrow I'm leading a ride through southern Indiana.  This has been in the planning for a while now.  I will be riding with my passenger pegs down in honor of my friend.

 Mornin' everyone!

Chloe I'll have some hot oatmeal with brown sugar and a mug of dark roast coffee in a FGLK Mug if you please.  I'll go sit in the front booth and watch all the activity outside.

Sounds very fitting Philip.  I believe the important issue in life (or should I say, of life) isn't how long a life is, but rather how will this world be a bit better because a person lived.  Sounds like Leslie lived a very successful life!  Be blessed and have a sfe ride tomorrow!

I will be spending today trying to pull a bunch of odds and ends together.  I have to drive up to Canandaigua to pick up some laundry (comforter for my bed) that I took up there to be cleaned (one of my kitties loves to leave hairballs on it for me.....).  At the same time I will drop off another one to be cleaned (see previous sentence....) and drop off a suit coat to be dry cleaned as well.  Then I need to stop at my sister's house and borrow an old family quilt that my son wants to have some photos taken of each square.  The quilt is about 130 years old according to the names that are on it.  I tried to get some photos of it a week ago, but they didn't turn out very well.  Now I am going to bring it here where I can have some time to do this correctly for posterity.

Another cold dark and damp day here in the Finger Lakes.  Currently 48°F outside with a high of 53°F just before it starts to rain again......... Supposed to have some sun shine tomorrow so I may get a chance to photograph the quilt then.  Sunday I will be at the R&GV Museum volunteering as a Docent at the Depot.

Need to get a few things done before lunch.  I'll be back (that is a warning....)Whistling

Good late morning. Just stopped in to see if word from Jeff or Ulrich. None? Hmm. Well best get to the free lunch from Farm Bureau at the elevator. I'll stop in later to see if any news on the boys.

Oh, BTW Today: A 30 percent chance of showers after 1pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 60. Breezy, with a west wind between 17 and 22 mph, with gusts as high as 31 mph. Tonight: A 30 percent chance of showers. Cloudy, with a low around 45. West wind between 13 and 15 mph, with gusts as high as 18 mph.
Kinda chilly.

Whistling

Close to lunchtime I see.   So Chloe how about some Bratwurst, sauerkruat and potatoe porogies and chase it with a RBF.  Thanks.

Thanks Fellas and Gals for all the kind thoughts and prayers, we really appreciate that.  My MIL always phoned us in the evenings and quite often a couple of times an evening.  My wife says the silence of the phone really magnifies the loss now that the funeral is over and everyone has returned to their homes.

Still raining here and not much else on the go today other than I have an appointment for some more accupuncture on my hip.  Will probably spend the rest of the day planning the various steps needed to get the basement back in shape. Don't think I'll do much physical work there today as I'll give the hip some time after the needles.

Philip,  Please have a safe, enjoyable and memorable ride. Hope the weather is great for it.

NTK.  (need to know)  JEFF  and ULRICH, please check in,  we are all concerned about you guys.QuestionQuestion

JERRY,  you are having more trouble with those chairs than anyone else that I know.  What are you doing?  Putting on to many miles, buyng cheap tires, using bum gas or what?????   Anyway, hope you get the bugs worked out of it and it gives you long and great service.Thumbs Up

Well, time to take a shower and get ready to go for the puncture.  You all have a great day.  What a great bunch of friends here in the diner,

We should arrange a reunion at some point.  Maybe at Inch's campground . What do you think????Big Smile

Johnboy out for now.....................

Sure would like to get the "Wobbly" back wobbling.
