Jim.........I used the paint right out of the bottle.  I didn't thin it at all.  Then I just painted over the Railbox letters.

Mornin' everyone!

Flo I need something to warm me up this morning.  How about a bowl of hot oatmeal with raisons and brown sugar?  And a cup of dark roast coffee in a FGLK mug.  Please and thank you.... I'll be at the rivet Counter checking out who is doing what.

Cold, dark, and damp here in the Finger Lakes this morning.  I refuse to turn on the heat this early in the season, but I bet I cook something in the oven for supper tonight....Smile,Wink, & Grin  Currently 53°F under dark rainy skies here in the Finger Lakes.   Rain and wind predicted for most of the day with a high of 55°F.  I have to do some house cleaning today anyway, so it looks like a good day to stay inside and get that done.  At least we need the rain here.  We still have only half our usual September rainfall.

Last night I finished up a Jordan Models Fordson Tractor and put it near the shed on the layout.  Looks right at home.

Looks like Jeffrey is still among the missing.  Hope he is OK and getting that infection under control.  Also have Rob in my prayers, hope his Dr. Appt. went well.

Best get moving.  Lots to get done today.

PC, .....Long johns, eh? Don't those get a bit warm at w**k, or do you go to the bathroom once you get there, and 'change out' of them for the w**kday?

Naw, I'm fine at work.  The boss doesn't like to keep it too warm (doesn't want to pay the bill), so it's about right.

He hasn't checked in on his own forum either.  I think the doc got hold of him!  I'm praying for him (and everyone else) too.

I never heard of a "indian summer" till I moved up North.  Had no idea what people were talking about.

Ray.....I'm in the same boat.  Its just to early for the heat.  It does warm up some in the day to help thou.

Here's some shots of the Railbox, a hopper, and a shot of my layout (as of now).  The hopper isn't that reddish color in person.  I guess it was the light.  Maybe I can get some shots outside later this week.  I still need to paint some hills/rocks on the layout today.  Maybe after lunch.

 Good Afternoon,

a dull and wet day - we are back to normal. Zoe, may I again have my LKAB mug filled with sweet hot chocolate? Supposedly, chocolate contains something to make you happy - just what I need now. I am in the grips of a bad depression - so before you guys see a grown man cry, I better leave...Confused

Afternoon all. Chloe, I'll take a hot chocolate and a cheesesteak thanks.

Haven't been in here in a while. Way too much to even attempt catching up on. But from scrolling down the page, I see that Ulrich has once again stopped in. Glad to hear from ya buddy!

I've been so busy because of everything lately. Frankly, sophomore year just plain sucks. My english teacher is being a female dog about our research paper, and it seems that the normal volume homework has been multiplied by 1000. Ugh, life...

I'll be in the back corner just chillen if ya need me.

Evening, just a quick run through, so an irish coffee ta-goes Flo

F16 vs. C-130

A C-130 was lumbering along when a cocky F-16 flashed by.
The jet jockey decided to show off.
The fighter jock told the C-130 pilot, 'watch this!' and promptly went into a barrel roll followed by a steep climb. He then finished with a sonic boom as he broke the sound barrier.
The F-16 pilot asked the C-130 pilot what he thought of that?

The C-130 pilot said, 'That was impressive, but watch this!'
The C-130 droned along for about 5 minutes and then the C-130 pilot came back on and said: 'What did you think of that?'

Puzzled, the F-16 pilot asked, 'What the heck did you do?'
The C-130 pilot chuckled. 'I stood up, stretched my legs, walked to the back, took a leak, then got a cup of coffee and a cinnamon roll.'

When you are young & foolish - speed & flash may seem a good thing !!!

When you get older & smarter - comfort & dull is not such a bad thing !!!

Now back to my regularly unscheduled kids spending the night [grandma said it was ok]

Guys, I need your help. It's about Dad.

A cuple montsh back, Belcan let him go. Cobra was picked up by the Feds, so that his half of the insurance essentially stayed the same as when he was employed. We spent 3 weeks chasing them around a bush, because THEY lost his first payment and tried to claim lapse in cover/pre-existing condition, we got the coverage. Now, tonight, we learn that they payments we've been making were somehow not counting, and YESTERDAY was the last day of the Grace period before they dropped him. News to us.

Now, obviously I'm missing details, but Dad's reaching clinically depressed levels on his meds about it, so I'm not gonna press him right now. But any help from anyone, we need to fix this before they can legally claim Lapse of Coverage.

And sorry about not getting in here again, Senior Year is taking over life. Cross Country, Play (The Odd Couple) school, and that large dose of life I didn't want prescribed.

Evenin' folks!

Just a cup of decafe to warm me up tonight, Flo.

Hey Barry!  I think we have that store down here South of the Border, but it's called Home Cheapo here....Whistling  Do they usually employ kids that have no clue about anything you are trying to find and tell you this isn't their department and they will send someone over to help you.......  And no one ever shows up?  This the store that sells all kinds of electric equipment like battery operated drills and saws but after 3 months doesn't stock the batteries....?  Yep that's what I thought.

Ah well, another very cold, wet, and dreary day here.  Spent half the day cleaning and puttering a bit on the layout.  The other half trying to get in touch with a guy who i used to get firewood from.  He doesn't have anything seasoned, and all the stock he put aside for himself is 23" long.  Too long for my my stove.  He gave me the name of someone who lives just outside Geneva and I have called about 10 times and just gotten their answering machine....  So tomorrow afternoon I will call a couple other sources and see what they have.

I crawled under the layout over to the far side which has an opening where I can stand up and w**k on things.  Decided that a window that has been a total distraction to that end of the layout and always in the way when I want to take a photo of the section ought to be covered.  It also lets too much light into the room for when i want to do night operations and its not.  Stood up to measure the window, looked around and said.... Aha!  I can get my tripod back in there and get a photo of the other end of the layout for the certificate and eliminate 4 of the photos altogether.  They say about 15 or so photos is generally right.  I have 37......  This also gives a much different perspective to the shot which I think may work better.  I try it out tomorrow after I get home from lunch with a bunch of old teacher friends (Ladies) that were in my department at the Middle School.

Hope you all have a great night!

Good Evening, Chloe, just a cup of hot cocoa in a go cup, please. Kinda late coming in for me, tonight. Thanks!

Ray and Robby, I'd agree on the wanting to hold off on the heat. I debated last night, but didn't turn it on. This summer, I've been sleeping on top of the covers (so as to need less A/C), and got used to that, but finally went back under the covers last night since I didn't turn the heat on. Another thing too is that I need to move some of the stuff on top of one sorta storage shelf at one end of the bedroom (the back edge is almost over the baseboard heater in that room). Nothing would (I think) get too hot, but I try to leave plenty of room so the air off the heater can circulate better. I did break down and wear long-sleeve shirts this week, and wore the 'spring weight' jacket in the morning.

Robby, so you just painted over the lettering? Brush or airbrush, and did you mask around it? (I know, I'm a pest at times with my questions, but how else will I learn...?)

Ray, hope your photos from 'the Far Side' (so to speak) do the trick for reducing how many photos you have to use for your certificate! And have fun at your lunch tomorrow, too. Dinner

Jerry, keep at it with your loco - been doing any running coal drags lately on the RR?

Barry, I'm sure up your way, you'd like Indian summer from March through November, right? Smile,Wink, & Grin And see? I told you that all you needed to do to find those pliers was buy another set! Unimats, huh? - Wow!!, I haven't seen one of those in a long, long while...

Ulrich, not to worry about that male crying thing - been there myself and done that (during my seperation and divorce, several years ago). Besides, you need to catch the 'infectuos' craziness of this crew here, right? Thumbs UpYeah!!

NS Joe, good to see you back in, and keep at it with the homew**k! With a year like you've described so far, you definitely want to NOT slip behind. Maybe Vinnie could uh... 'have a talk' with your English teacher?Whistling

Inch - that was a great one on the two pilots (and so true!). Laugh And have a good sleepover with the young'uns Zzz

Morgan - if your area's U.S. Senator or Representative is worth their salt (at all), check with their closest office to you about some help with putting pressure on the insurance company (lots of it). That, plus contacting the state agency which regulates insurance agencies in your state, and see what the procedure for filing a complaint against them is. That, and contact your local TV station(s) - some companies will do 'the right thing' to avoid mucho bad press coverage (like being portrayed as the heartless corporation that they may be)... Hope some of that helps, and I will add you both to my Angel list. And hope your play gives you some fun in the midst of all the unprescribed stuff. Thumbs Up

Time for me to head on home now with my hot cocoa. Hopefully we will hear more on Rob's and Jeff's progress by tomorrow (if they can sneak a computer in somehow to them). Prayers will continue for all, and hope all have a good evening's rest.

Blessings and prayers,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Good evening...

Morgan ... Jim has good advice on that problem. Also, please let your Dad know we care about him and you, too. Prayers for you and your Dad.

I'm concerned about Jeff and Rob. ... Prayers for their quick recovery.

Ulrich ... It is good you can be here everyday, and prayers for your health.

My bother in law in nashville had his appointment today with the surgeopn. He will have his surgery on Tuesday next week for his heart valve replacement and his double bi-pass.

My Rednecksville Report of the day. The special election was held today and the measure to end prohibition passed by a narrow margain of just 36 votes. I have a neighbor who voted "Yes" who said he was not going to vote until the "No people" sent a form letter signed by a child trying to "guilt trip" people into voting "No". Stuff like that always backfires. My mrr friend, Dan and his wife are pleased. They were active on the "Yes" committee. You should have seen Dan driving around town in his wife's car with huge "Vote Yes" signs on the roof. Next, any business desiring a liquor license needs to follow the procedure. First step in the process is to bribe the governor by donating $100,000 to his campaign fund. That should get the license application higher on the priority list.

My new freight yard is now operational. This will be the first place I will start my DCC when I get it. I think I told you I sent back a Digitrak starter set due to some problems with it. I'll try another one soon.

Good late evening all.  I see we still haven't heard from Jeff, or Rob.  I'll just continue my prayers for them.  I've been pretty busy with w**k recently and I haven't really had a chance to say anything on here, but I have been able to come in and catch up.  I've also been doing my absolute best to work on getting the house ready for us (remodelling is a blast!)  Don't have much longer now, just have to put up the final coat of paint, get the floor tile done, then move in furniture and be ready to live.  Of couse we still have to take care of the master bathroom, but it can want until we're permanently out there.  Still nothing happening on the MRR front, going to get paid this Friday, so hopefully I'll be able to buy some parts for my GP40-2, I'm looking forward to getting it everything ordered for it so I can do the "easy" part.

Great line about the two pilots, I've heard the same story told but instead of a C-130, its been a KC-135, KC-10, or even a B-52 (of course considering I've been inside a BUFF, I dunno if I'd wanna use the pot onboard).  I've got some flying yarns that I could tell on here that would make some of y'all cringe, but I'll leave them be for now.

Think that I'm going to head to bed, I need some rest, been working without a whole lot of rest recently, so I guess I need to catch up on sleep, or something.  Goodnight all!

Evening all from BalmyCoolCal:

High here today was 78.  Overcast and very, very SWEET!!   Tomorrow is supposed to be about the same, but with some wind coming north down the valley.  Alaska wind.   High (but not too high) waves predicted along the Coast from the Samoan earthquake.  No Tsunami, thank God, but higher than normal surf.  Beaches are closed from San Diego to Seattle until it all stops.

Well, went out into the garage today to work on the train.  Garage door opened.  Neighbor's cat Chester, a really sweet half-Siamese animal that uses my garage as a thoroghfare between the front yard and my back yard, came in, sat down on the floor and decided to watch me for a while.  This cat does NOT get on the MR.  Anyway, I'm working on the layout, Chester is supervising, and suddenly--

KA-WHAM!  Out of nowhere, this Pit Bull comes charging into the garage, sees Chester and grabs him up by the shoulders and starts shaking him.  I'm stunned (so is Chester) and I happen to have a bottle of Coke with me.  I grab the Coke bottle and whack the Pit Bull on the head.  Evidently the bottle hit the Bull on the nose, he dropped Chester and backed out of the garage.  Ran down the street into a garage about three houses down, me chasing him.  I'm yelling like crazy, neighbor closes his garage door on the Bull.  Everything happens very fast, but I'm amazed at how good the response is.  I tell the neighbor, "The dog just tried to kill Chester."  "I'll call Animal Control."  Meanwhile, Chester's owner has run into my garage from all the commotion and comes out with Chester, dazed and wet.  "He's bleeding," John says, I look at the cat.  "I think it's Coca Cola,"  I say.  We get Chester cleaned up, it's a combination of Coca-Cola and dog spit.  A bite mark on his shoulder.

John takes Chester off to the vet, Animal Control comes over, gets the Pit Bull.  Dorko neighbor from the end of the block comes up to see what is going on.  Looks at the dog chewing on the cage in the Animal Control van.  "Oh, man, did he get out again?"   "He tried to kill John 's cat,"  I mention.  Dorko neighbor just stares at me.  "Well, man, he's a DOG.  That's what they DO."

Dog's at the Pound.  Chester is back from the vet--no broken bones--(which I find amazing from how he was shaken in that dog's mouth, BTW), but a bandage on his shoulder and full of antibiotics.  He's a house-cat for a while.  John (who is a great neighbor, BTW) promises.  Funny thing, Chester is not a wandering outside cat, he sticks to either my back yard or John's.  He's sweet, the neighbors all like him.   I like him.  Frankly, if John and his family were ever to move and I thought Chester would get along with the Princess (Spooky) and the Viking (Uff-Dah), I'd take Chester, myself.   Strictly inside, of course.

Needless to say, I did NOT get a lot done on the MR today.  Well, okay, I planted some more trees.  That's a GIVEN, LOL!

Morgan:  I wish I could tell you what to do about COBRA.  IMO, that company is VERY aptly named--they just bite the Heck out of their constituents.  I think Jim may have a very good idea.  I had to go through COBRA for about four months after I retired from my job at St. Francis HS, before my Kaiser Senior Advantage kicked in, and they were just bloody IMPOSSIBLE to deal with.   I finally contacted Kaiser after my SA was going, and they seemed to take care of it for me.  But if you have to deal with them for any length of time, my advice is to contact the Medical Insurance Commissioner nearest you.  I hope for your father's sake that it can be straightened out.  Someone at the Federal level needs to whack that entire company up aside the head--PAINFULLY--to get their attention.

Anyone heard from Jeff, today?  I'm getting worried.  I like that guy a lot!

Well, time for dinner and a little TV (it's an NCIS night, and I can't live without either Abby or Zhiva) and then to bed and back to school, tomorrow.  Hopefully my choir has recuperated from the Great Holy Bowl Disaster and are back to semi-teenage-normal.

Best to all, prayers to those in need.

Oh, and just for kicks, here's a reverse shot of my two helpers rolling up the grade on a long freight out of South Yuba Canyon.  Taken at track-speed.  And remember, you all, this is DC!!!!  Hee, hee.  Approve

Good Morning All,

Cold and damp again this morning but no rain predicted until later this week. Off to Millville NJ today and back Mon. I'll have a regular to go please

Tom - that's one nice layout. I love the mountain terrain. Needs a view block or some dark paint in that tunnel bore though, eh? (Photographs bring out all the detail, right?)

Morgan - The best you can do at this point is the state insurance commision/commisioners' office right away and the congressmans office is the next best (takes longer usually). Numbers should be in a phone book in the gov't section or on line. The sooner the better - today would be good.  Be persistent but patient - these snafus can take time to unravel completely, but your dad needs coverage now.In the mean time if you need care and your primary care people are not flexible, the emergency room is your friend and they are required to treat you whether or not you have an ability to pay.

Gotta run - a thousand things to do again this morning before we leave.  Hopefully Jeff and Rob will check in while I'm off site.   CUL, J.R.

Good morning all,

Robby, well now you know what an Indian summer is and we have to warn you about extra holidays!  Sweetest day is coming up Saturday!  A holiday invented by the chocolate factories in Ohio and Pennsylvania where we are required to buy our wives and girlfriends chocolates and flowers and stuff.

Goooooooood morning.  Its a chilly one, hopefully it warms up some.   I guess I will have to turn the heat on later today.

Jim........No need to worry about all of the questions.  I guess I'm bad at tips/steps advice.  I just used a think brush, and painted the letters.  Like I said before, my hands aren't to steady (due to car radios, etc...when I was younger).  I wish it turned out better than pictured. I hope to get some outside shots to see what it looks like.

Tom.......I emailed Jeff the other day about a car I'm doing for him, and nothing yet.  I'm sure he's fine.  The doctor probably made it take it REAL easy.

Barry......I agree, what holiday is that called?  Lee Whistling

Well I gotta do some running around town, and I will pop back in later.

Mornin. Coffee and biscuits and gravy please. Today: Sunny, with a high near 68. East northeast wind between 3 and 5 mph. Tonight: Mostly clear, with a low around 46. East southeast wind between 6 and 8 mph.

Jim- No frost yet. I hope not for awhile. Could cause some problems with a lot of farmers beans. But I have worn a long sleeved shirt for the last couple of days. Depressing. So far it’s not been too cold in the house once I closed the windows. Now only the bedroom windows are open at night and just a bit. I do like sleeping cool, the only thing winter is good for IMHO. But as I don’t like being cold, I’ll probably turn my heater on before some. But for now, it’s not cold just a bit chilly in the morning inside so the furnace remains a fixture just waiting to cause the outflow of massive amounts of Hobby dollars..

Joe- I know it’s a pain, but stick with the homework. Right now it may seem like a waste of time, it did to me, but believe you me it’s not. You will be surprised at the amount of times you’ll say “I remember something about that. Wish I’d paid attention.” Take notes you’ll see a lot of this later in life. Well, maybe not knowing the names of the muscles in a frogs abdomen, but you get my drift.

Inch- Love the F-16 vs. C-130. Very true also. I’m finding that out every day.

Flashwave- Gather all the info you can. Cancelled checks etc. if they did not cash them then your check register showing you wrote the check in order and that funds existed. I know that doesn’t sound like it will work, and it may not matter as proof, but you’d be surprised at what it can establish and that goes surprisingly far. My wife won on just that thing when a landlord of hers tried to show her tennants were always late with the rent and that’s why she doesn’t owe the deposit back. Sorry, got sidetracked. Anyway, call your State Board of Insurance and get them involved as a start. That’s what these people do. Keep the Insurance Companies in line. They can also tell you what you need to do or who else you can or need to contact. Good luck. Prayers for your Dad. I see others have chimed in with pert near the same stuff. By the way The Odd Couple sounds like a great play to be in. When I was in school our Senior play was Oklahoma. I was Slim. Imagine that.

Ray- Our stores are Menard’s and Lowe’s. I do believe they hire from the same pool as your Home Cheapo. “Can I help you?” is usually always met with the under breath “probably not”. Miiiiight I suggest you try out this new photography angle on us first. I’d sure hate for you to submit something that just doesn’t show well. (ahem) yeah, that’s why. (ahem)just trying to helpWhistling. That reminds me the new truck you just built. Are you sure it looks good by the shed……

Robby- I’m sure glad Jim thinks like me. That way he can ask the questions and I just sit back and suck in the answers. Nodding my head like I knew all along. (Learned that from working for the Feds). I’m not sure I’m keen on the last letter fade though. Can’t quite put my finger on why, just me. Of course I don’t care for BMW’s that much either. The overall car, however, looks great as usual.

Ulrich-   Yes, men are men and not women. But that doesn’t mean we don’t have feelings and emotions too. Not crying isn’t what makes you a man. You’re going through some rough times and you need to let it out or it will bottle up and explode. Petra is there, so are we, of course, but Petra is by your side and you by hers. She and you will laugh and cry together. Stick together through thick and thin. This is the thin, but I’m sure it’s been thinner. Work these things out and you may find in the end you guys are even closer. That’s what makes a man. Doing what needs to be done. (being 6’5” and about 240 doesn’t hurt I might add). Get yourself well because that is what you need to do to do the rest. Talk with Petra and make your mark again. You did it once Hoss, you can do it again. I know you can. Keep us in the loop and we are praying for you. Now how about some of that strudel.Dinner

I’m concerned about Jeff, but at least we had a heads up as to what might happen and why, now Rob…. I’m getting a little worried.

Tom- Noooo....., that’s not what dogs do. Some may, but some people kill other people too. Should have reminded Dorko neighbor of that. Maybe you should wander over to his house some night and um… how do I say this without getting ****’d out, “wee wee” on his Chrysanthemums. When he objects just say, that’s what beer drinkers do. Yeah we all like Jeff too. A bit rough, needs a haircut and a shave, but he’s ours. (he he)

Oh my gosh, what’s Saturday? Sweetest Day? I’ll try to ride this one out. See if she notices. Best get a couple of Hershey bars just in case, the have them on sale 2 for 2 dollars at the Love’s. Hmmmm wonder if I should get a card……..

Have a Great Day!!!!!!!!!!!

Ray: Our stores are Home Desperate, Rona's, Moffatt and Powell, Copp's Lumber, and Cashway Lumber. HD seems to get Walmart rejects more often than the others but there seems to be quite a few older guys still there. Rona's have a mix of young/old with knowledge--quite a few of 'em will go all out to help---although there have been a few that I would've loved to help learn how to be civilized---Mischief Moffatt and Powell/Cashway are still old school--if'n I have questions I'll ask there and I'll get good answers---and their prices are good---heeheeheeSmile,Wink, & Grin Copp's Lumber seems to be a good supplier of GOOD lumber and guys who know their stuff----and all are good when it comes to pink/blue stuff---Big Smile

Hello ....

I'm here to check if anyone heard from Jeff or Rob. So far, no news from either one.

Inch, I enjoyed the F16/C130 story. At my age, I can realte more to the C130.

Cal Tom ....... I can not understand own a vicious dog for a pet. Teh pit bull should be put down. Now, you are the Coke Bottle Hero of California. The Pit Bull could have been termianted with the coke bottle.

The vote tally here was 2665 FOR; 2629 AGAINST; 5294 TOTAL; 51.2% of registered voters voted. It was a close race in a lightly populated county.

I was up early running trains in and out of the new freight yard, and I am working out all the bugs and gremlins.

Mornin' all!

Inch, I'm all about the C130!  The joke lost a lot of momentum though when I told it to my wife.  Who knew that not everybody in the world didn't know what a C130 and an F16 was?

 Mornin' everyone!

Flo, lots of dark roast coffee in a FGLK mug to warm me up this morning.... Nothing else I have to go out amongst them for lunch and will surely over eat....

Flashwave, My lawyer back 12 years ago when I was having some major problems with a well known huge hospital in the mid-west where my late wife had a bonemarrow transplant told me this.  Anytime you send a written communication to them make sure that you add at the bottom:  cc (insert lawyer name) esq.  It tends to get their attention real fast.  That summer my youngest son was working here in town for the Credit Bureau when that ***** took me to collection less than a week after I received a correct bill (I had been paying a small amount on the bill every month).  I sent off a very nasty letter to them signed as above and contacted the State of Ohio and the BBB.  It not only got their attention, but since I told them I had a signed letter saying they would accept NYS BC-BS as paid in full, I got a fairly large refund.  I had immediately paid the account in full.  They had not sent me a refund 3 months later.  My son's boss at the credit bureau took my statement and had me take the hospital to collection....... (at no charge... I think he liked doing that...Wink  Took 3 days to receive the check certified mail!!!  So be nice but firm and let them know that you WILL win!

Absolutely!  Guy across the street has the biggest pit bull I have ever seen.  This thing weighs in at at least 100 lbs.  He makes a lot of noise but is basically a big baby.  The son of one of my other neighbors has a female Pit Bull that has almost attacked me twice...  Once I would have been nailed for sure except that it ran head on into my garden fence.  Lucky the owner was right there and called her back home.  I have had a long talk with the neighbor and they now keep her chained when she visits.  I also had them introduce me to her and got her to let me pet her so she knows I am not a threat.  Knock on wood I haven't seen her in a while........

A bit cold out there this morning.  Thermometer is hanging at 44°F and might get up to 50° later today.  Break out the woolies!

Best get ready to leave!  Later!
