Hi. It's me, I'm back. The Central Scaaruutinizer...(sorry. Couldn‘t resist.) This post was divided from day before yesterday because of it's length, to allow someone else to get a word in before everyone got tired of listening and left or joined Duke in peaceful, yet sometimes noisy, slumber so I waited awhile. Got busy, didn't get back in, then yesterday's post was longer than I thought, waited, got busy, then today's post .... Anyway, here tis.

Speaking of Duke, why is there pizza on his Pictures. He's nooooot gonna be haaaaappy.

Garry- Our town just went "wet" oh I guess about 5 years ago was it? Been dry since the 40's. The Township is still dry. Any way we heard all about the dangers of alcohol for a bit, though not near what you have, just a few, then the realization hit most, If you want a Casey's, they gotta sell beer. The Love's truck stop was looking to build but...., they needed to sell beer. We also look at some that were so against the repeal sitting in their backyards swilling beer they bought from surrounding towns (and still do btw). The tax money is going to others. They are going to buy it anyway so why not get some money from it. We can have no stand alone bar in our town, you must be a restaurant and have 60% revenues come from food, so the bar patrons can still dump their money in someone elses town and all will be happy. The restaurant does have a bar but he tries to keep it's hours close to the restaurants hours other than on Friday and Saturday nights. Not a lot of people go there to just sit and drink. Like I said they go elsewhere. They don't necessarily like sitting in a restaurant and drinking. Of us that do go there, we double as language, content and behavior cops during the restaurant hours and some feel a bit restrained. The owner doesn't care if it bothers them or not. If you can't behave he doesn't want you in there anyway. Besides their neighbors won't see there car uptown by the "bar". So far, aside from seeing Alcohol at the Casey's and at the restaurant, you would not even know anything has changed. My friend who owns the bar part of the restaurant, doesn't even hang beer signs out for people to see because it's uptown and he said he wanted to respect those who wouldn't care for BUD Light signs and banners all over the place. Doesn't hurt his business and no one has complained. A little bit of give and take and you'd be surprised how people can get along.

We had something similar to what Tom was talking about, I‘m told, a long while back (before my time. Old codger stories. Wait, I'm telling it too.). You brought in the first twelve pack, or case or six , bottle whatever. You gave it to the bartender and he wrote down your "inventory" when you got down to a certain point, he would buy more. (someone of course would give you one of theirs if you ran short. But this apparently only worked a few times before you were called something not so nice). For each drink served you were charged a fee. The bartender got a certain amount of each drink served, and the rest went for your alcohol restock and a bit for gas. Didn't go over too well and only lasted a short time. Too many arguments over the thing.

The lady doesn't want her grandkids to get drunk? She doesn't have a problem with having their feet chopped off? I mean there are lawn mowers around aren't there? "Yeah but......." I know lady, I know.

I'm with you Tom, Know when to say when. I've had my turn at not knowing, and I suppose I'm lucky that I can enjoy without over indulging. Some can't. But if I can't eat beef, then that doesn't mean everyone should only eat pork. SoapBox (sorry, stepping down now)

EDIT: Welp, for your pain and suffering as well as your sore eyes getting through the last two of my posts, it looks like chow's on me. Even if you gave up and moved on, order up.

Good afternoon, ladies...yep, the double burger...yeah, you got it.

Well, I see ROB and JEFF are still out...we'll keep up the good thoughts for them.

ULRICH: Hang in there Pal...hang in there.

INCH: I sent the F-16 vs. C-130 bit to my Dad (AF vet, early 60s). Here's the version he knew...

Here is the way this story used to be told:

F-104 vs. C-130

A C-130 was lumbering along when a cocky F-104 flashed by.
The jet jockey decided to show off.
The fighter jock told the C-130 pilot, 'watch this!' and promptly went into a barrel roll followed by a steep climb. He then finished with a sonic boom as he broke the sound barrier.
The F-104 pilot asked the C-130 pilot what he thought of that?

The C-130 pilot said, 'That was impressive, but watch this!'
The C-130 droned along for about 5 minutes and then the C-130 pilot came back on and said: 'What did you think of that?'

Puzzled, the F-104 pilot asked, 'What the heck did you do?'
The C-130 pilot chuckled. 'I turned off one engine, go ahead, try it!'

(Notice that even though this story  is 45 years older the C-130 is in the story.  What does this tell us? )
The more things change, the more they stay the same??

TOM: I've got a similar problem here. My (fill-in-the-explative) neighbor has a rottweiler, a very unfriendly one at that. Last winter, it got loose and started after Kit and Rerun. Fortunately, she was able to block it/protect Rerun until (fill-in-the-explative) neighbor came and got it. Same rott broke it's leash and attacked a small dog being walked in the alley (between our yard and explative-neighbor's house). Earlier this summer, the rott got out of the house, made a bee-line for me and Rerun, grabbing him on the shoulder. I managed to smack the rott hard enough he let go, picked up Rerun (he wears a full harness...at all times), and kept kicking at the rott while yelling bloody murder. I wanted people to see what was going on. Explative neighbor took his own sweet time walking over, finally retrieves his dog, and decides, after putting his dog back in the house, that he wants to come over and pick a fight!  I went to City Hall, filed a complaint. This was back in June or July...nothing has been done yet, even though the Clerk said it is illegal to have a rott in the city. The guy is a real meat-head: has to have the biggest/baddest pickup truck in town, has to have all his drunk buddies over, has to have a bad-a   dog. Maybe he got stuffed in lockers a lot as a kid...I don't know. Luckily, Rerun was fine...no injuries. I was hoping the scumwad was just renting...so he could maybe get kicked out. Nope...he bought the place. Is it wrong to hope he gets foreclosed on???

"Sweetest Day?" on Saturday??? Great....I'm in for a double-whammy. Sunday will mark six years of Loving Wife putting up with me. I can probably sneak-by under the radar on sweetest day...but the anniversery...can't miss that one! I had the date engraved inside the wedding ring, so if I ever forget...there it is. Of course, if I forget it's there...Dunce

Well, I think I've wasted enough time, will have a seat at the RC for a bit...

Have a great and SAFE rest of the day...

Nope. Course, I could be wrong. Philip, this is your territory bud. ( I still say no. Hey it's not all THAT bad. It's better than wishing the dog turns on him. )

Working on my switch stations today. All was going well, Got one of the boxes/framework made for the panels I'd made and painted and drilled yesterday. Took the switches off the old panel started to put them in the holes and, what was that? I heard a knocking at the door. Set the switches down and answered the door. "Greetings buffoon my name is Mr Murphy" he says, "may I come in?"

"No!" I answered. "Go away. Everything is fine"

"Thank you. Don't mind if I do." he says as he pushes past me and enters the garage. "Whatcha doin'?"

"Getting ready to put the switches in my panel. Now leave."

"Why" he says all sassy like.

"Because they will power the track. Now leave"

"No, I mean why are you trying to install switches that won't fit."

With widened eyes I place a switch in the hole and find the wood I used is thicker than the wood I used before and the switches won't come through. Tried to drill a hole halfway through so it would work. Mr Murphy bumped into me ( on purpose I just know) and now the hole on two are too big. Ruined. Several expletives were said I must admit.

"I'll just remake the panel, Now GO AWAY!!" He calmly left with a grin on his face.

I once knew a person who jumped on the verbal attack the minute we met.  He was arrogant, boisterous, and hard headed.  He was downright rude!  Fortunately, the person that I was being like this to didn't return the favor.  He was polite and calm, and allowed me to be who I was way back then.  It was strange, because I expected to be met with an equal disdain, but I wasn't.  Today, Gary and I have been best friends for many years, watched each others kids grow up, , had family picnics, gone camping, done life together, ya know?

And the lesson here is.............

Oh, I'll readily confess and admit...I already HAVE.Mischief As a matter of fact, I hope/wish/desire the rott gets him...right square on his male bits and parts.Shock What's sad/disgusting, is that it will probably take the rott killing someone's dog, or injuring a child before anything is done.

Evenin' folks.....!

Started typing this over an hour ago. Got distracted.  Flo, just a cup of decafe and a slice of that Pecan Pie you've got on the counter over there.  Oh, what the heck put a scoop of vanilla ice cream on it too.  If I'm going to blow the diet I might just as well do it in style.

Had a great day linking up with some old teaching buddies of mine.  The one we went to visit now lives in a house at a Senior independent living complex.  Basically she has half a house and a garage.  The garage is used for storage as she gave up driving several years ago.  She likes the arrangement much better than the independent living appt. at the same place that she used to have.  And it is cheaper.  We celebrated two of their birthdays as well today.  One, a Home and Careers teacher is turning 75 and the other was the lady we went to visit (also in her 70's).  She was also a Home and Careers teacher.   The other lady (who drove) is a retired Art teacher and I was the Music representative.  Only one missing was a truly way out character who taught "shop" for many years and ended up his career teaching Technology.  Went out to lunch at a restaurant nearby and then came back to open presents and have cake.

I was given this in an email last night and think some of you at least may find it interesting.....

http://www.nscorp.com/nscportal/nscorp/Media/News%20Releases/2009/batteries.html

A good old idea actually that is being recycled by NS.  It seems that NYC had a diesel, battery, and 3rd. rail electric switcher that was used in Rochester, NY for some time at the Kodak Yard way back in the 1920s....

When I got home from the partying, I got some photos of the layout from a hole behind the mountain at Cooley's Blue Ice.  I'll post some later.

Sheeeesh--now that I seen. Fellow down the neighbourhood a bit had layout benchwork all set up---1/2 of it only through gyprock---1/4"----no studs----all the second level came crashing down. Your sitchimication  though is a classic in old houses---I can count the number of times I'd THINK I hit a stud---put up a painting or old sign---only to watch it come crashing down----lathe and horsehair plaster--OYWhistling

I've done up some more feedmill stuff for Eric's layout and tested the Unimat lathe--it still works--which is good because I've got some ideas for my own layout----maybe go flat sideways and scratchbuild my own locomotive-----Whistling

Grilled Salmon with wild rice & steamed veggies, please.

The test results were interesting. I have no gluten issues & no worms detected (Doc says they can easily miss them). Do have severe sleep apnea. They even recommend surgery, which I have no interest in doing. I will be getting a Cpap machine. Doc detected a heart arrhythmia, confirmed by an EKG done in office. LDL was very high, so he talked me into a low dose cholesterol drug. I'll take it short term, until I am getting reguvinating sleep at night. Need a head CT scan to look for the cause of the left side issues. (tumors & strokes scare the cra* out of me) Doc said the same things others have said to me, "How can you look so healthy and have so many problems?". He also said the sleep apnea could be the cause of everything going wrong with my body. I agree.

My wife has potentially serious health issues, too. I won't share them here though. Just keep her in your thoughts, please.

Well, our Walthers order arrived with the Cucumber & Tomatoes, the Cornfield, and a few other items for the wife's HO scale layout. Of course after the fact she finds a barn she also wants. And I got the N scale New River Mining Company kit for my layout. That's it on the train front.

Hope everyone is doing well these days. I'll drop back in when I can. Have a couple more busy days ahead. Take Care, all.

Evenin' again folks!

Rob good to see you are back.  Sleep apnea can be a killer!  It can cause all kinds of health issues.  Sure hope that is cause of most of your problems!

I have uploaded some photos of the layout taken from a vantage point that no one ever usually sees.  At lest one of these will make it into the group I will use for the certificate.  Photo was taken behind the Ice house area in a access hole at the back (actually between the layout and the wall).  This is the one that will likely be used in the group for the certificate.

I'll save the rest for later....

Good Evening, Chloe - how about a nice sized bowl of beef stew, and a glass of wine in honor of Gary getting one of those new liquor licenses in his county? Laugh Okay, I'll just have the bowl of stew and the glass of wine for 'No' reason...Whistling

Gary, I'll keep your B-I-L and his surgery(ies?) in AngelAngel for next week. My memory is a tad fuzzy - was this his first such surgery, or is he replacing a previous valve that he wore out(or whatever happens to them)?

Eddie (Bama), hope you get all the necessary redo's on the house done. What all are you having to do (I recall the bathroom and some flooring repairs, but I've had a nap or two since then, y'know...Dunce I'm guessing that the nursery area is a high priority, right?

Weather here was really nice today - started out in the mid-to-upper 40's F (

Calif.Tom - great to hear that you're getting some more moderate weather out there - you were almost as cool today as Missouri! Yeah!! I'd say the neighbor down the block is about like those ones who let their kids wander all over the neighborhood and then act surprised when they get into some kind of trouble (without adult supervision - hmmm, wonder if they even qualify as that for their kids....?) Sorry, I got distracted there in thought... Anyway, good to hear Chester is relatively unscathed (except for that whopping therapy bill for his PTSD treatment....)Wink (Hey! I happen to know that Calif. has pet psychologists!)Whistling

Hey, Lee - careful about mentioning all those holidays - you'll stress out Todd with all the cards he'll have to go get! Oops Of course, I can dodge this Sweetest Day, since I don't have a sweetie on the horizon or anything.Sigh Ah, well... How are your signals coming along (and when will the photos be ready for posting, by the way?

And Todd, glad I can help you out by my questions for Robby. Cowboy While I don't leave my windows open a crack once it cools off, my long sleeve shirt was fine for today's temps. And Ulrich? [Ditto] what Todd said! Thumbs Up Keep at it, my friend. Oh, and thanks, Todd, for my dinner snack! Dinner

I see we're describing our local hardware places, so I'd have to say ours include Sears (they just don't carry the wood and such), Lowe's, Ace, a regional place called Buchheit's (kinda a cross between hardware store and farm store), and I think there's a True Value place around, too. The more local ones actually can answer questions for you (vs. the national chain types)...

PC, telling the story could've been worse; you could have tried to tell it to your daughter! (though at least she might've looked the places up on Google or Wikipedia...). Are you gonna have riding weather this weekend again?

Ray - having a son working at a credit union does help, eh? Smile,Wink, & Grin Uh, it could be good or it could be not so good if you haven't heard that (female) pit bull lately; she might be a silent one...Shock Sounds like you all had a great lunch with your former cohorts in (academic?) crime (so to speak).

Chris, just wondering - is anybody on your local council up for re-election this year? Maybe THAT editor could be interested in an article about dangerous dogs (being with the media yourself...).Whistling Oh, no reason I mentioned that at all...

Rob, good to hear what's going on with your health. I agree that the best route would be if the CPAP machine gets your body back on track for the other things. AngelAngel will be targeted for that, and for your wife's condition(s)... And am I noticing a pattern there - that when the stuff gets in for whatever your wife's last neat idea was, she thinks of another great idea? Or is that just my imagination there?Smile,Wink, & Grin

The 'W' thing wasn't too bad today, except for my have 6.5 hours of appointments on my schedule, of which only 1.5 showed up (a couple or three were only half-hour 'follow-up' appointments). But I helped out my co-worker (who was covering the walk-in and crisis stuff today). Got my paperw**k done fifteen minutes early, even. Smile Now, if tomorrow is that good, I might get my budget for the rest of the year done...OopsWink

Better finish up my stew (the glass is empty - polished that off while pouring over the posts). Hope we hear something from Jeff (and Ulrich - check in, please!) by tomorrow. Yep, I can allllllmost see the weekend from here, PC!

Blessings and prayers,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Thanks guys. I love this place. ROunding up comments as we speak.

No word from Jeff or Rob? Uh-oh. Will be hoping.

I've been reading an interesting book entitled Hea that Whistle Blowin'. It's about the railroads' move west. Lot of it focuces on the Transcon, but there are others mentioned. Kansas Pacific for one. Anyone know what happened to Lincoln's bulletproof car when he was done with it? UP bought it. the Execs started using the car, though Durant had his own. Apperently, they were all tired of being shot at on a regular basis by the Injuns...

Tom: That's NOT what Dogs do. I have seen Tally attack one dog who crosssed into her yard. That ended badly for the other, but thst was her yard, not someone else's. SHe hs a very keen idea about yard limits. She may piddle in the neighbor's backyard, but she knows that's not her territory to protect. What's cool is she knows it in Dad's house, and at Mom's, two different places about 10 miles apart.

Good evening, almost morning... maybe a 7-Up and a dish of vanilla icecream before calling it a night...

MORGAN: I'm fairly familiar with the Kansas Pacific (UP) from Topeka to Manhattan. It was a rare treat when Dad would take US Hwy. 24 either to or from the area on our vacation trips to see relatives near Manhattan. 24 runs alongside the tracks. I didn't see many trains then, but it was still neat to a train nut kid. Also, with the dog issue, that IS what dogs do...when their owner is a complete (explative)-head who doesn't care one iota about the rest of society...Disapprove

Which reminds me...

JIM: Not a bad idea for a story, but wouldn't do any good here in Clarence, my papers are both in the next county over. But...THAT editor might give me the OK to check with Chief Barbrady, Bobrady...whatever the police chief's name is on SouthPark...the North Liberty Chief is right up there with himDunce "Nothing to see here...." And I could check with Johnson Co. Sheriff for Solon. Then again, I don't get to do a whole lot of "enterprise" work. The "cache" of stuff waiting to run is usually large enough, they don't feel the need to pay-out for a bunch of unassigned efforts.

Well, I got two high school football game write-ups done and ready to file. THAT editor still hasn't ran one from 3 weeks ago, and I'm turning in one from 2 weeks ago, and last week. I'm NOT a sports-writer, although I played one for 3 or 4 years on the previous weekly I w**ked for... but I do tend to throw-in as many non-politically correct sports phrases as possible: the Clippers opened fire on the Panthers, the Clippers scalped the Chiefs, it was a medevil (sp.) battle as the Spartans faced the Knights (who didn't say "Ni!"), etc. We'll see if THAT editor hacks it up/sanitizes it.Mischief

Later today, I have to do a business profile/feature in Solon on a physical therapist. I think I'm being set-up as the PT and Mr. Owner/Publisher have been in a state of war. The PT runs the "super secret Solon schools parents' website" and won't let him have access to it. I love my job I love my job I love my job I love my job I love my job................................

On the MRR front, the XTRA hopper decals have arrived! Yay! I was so inspired by finally being able to decal the one, I went and grabbed another Athearn PS-2 3-bay, and have performed the necessary surgery on it to make it look like a Portec hopper. It was a "foobie:" a Rock Island hopper patched for CNW, but in an 18-rib (4750 cu. ft.) hopper number series. The Athearn is a 16-rib (4740 cu. ft.) car. But, in '89 or '90 when I did it...THAT was all that was availible. Even the MDC Roundhouse FMC hoppers weren't availible yet. Amazing how many varieties of grain hoppers are out now 'eh??? Several of the old Athearns have been "rebuilt" now, with at least two more "on the chopping block" if/when I ever get Intermountain hoppers to replace them.

W**k and life permitting, I "should" be able to decal both Portec XTRA hoppers this weekend!! Hip hip hooray!

On THAT happy note... welcome to October, and have a good night/morning...

Good late evening.

Chris is up late too. Hi, Chris.

Rob... take care of yourself and your wife, too. Hopefully the tests reveal the causes of the problems and you can be OK again. Same goes for your wife, too.

Jeff ...looking forward to your return and your good health.

Morgan .... Keep your chin up. Is the employer still in busness? Their HR Dept. should help with the Cobra questions for your Dad..

Jim ... My BIL had a stroke a few months ago, and perhaps that's what you are thinking about. He had being doing much better. He still has a stressful job managing a large shopping center.

Ray ... Great Picture!

Here's a picture from my branc line .....

Good morning. Waffles and coffee please. Nooo, not together silly girl. Yes ma'am good ole maple syrup.

Today: Occasional showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 1pm. High near 65. East southeast wind between 11 and 18 mph, with gusts as high as 28 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%.Tonight: Showers and thunderstorms likely before 1am. Cloudy, then gradually becoming partly cloudy, with a low around 48. Southeast wind 10 to 16 mph becoming west. Winds could gust as high as 23 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. It's raining now and looks like it will for a while.

Homecoming parade was last night. My intention was to get home pick up the dog and head uptown to watch the parade. Unfortunately, the restaurant got packed before the parade, so I jumped  in to help. Then again after so I jumped in to help again and never made it home. Poor baby, it's a good thing I didn't tell her what my plans are or she would have had her feelings hurt. As it stands she didn't even know there was a parade. Whew, lucky for me.

PC- Gotcha, and you're right. Fortunately, I'm not the "aggressor" but I have about a 50/50 record on the "responder". I'm working on it and am getting better. However I must admit, when someone comes out of the shoot like a mad bull, sometimes (ok many times) I snort back. Most times though as you sorta said, calmness will defuse a man about as fast as anything.

Chris- I very rarely, almost never wish bad things to happen to people. Chrysanthemums, getting a uric acid rain is not a bad thing. Sickness, injury, major hardships, that kind of stuff is what I'm talking about. Now to say it doesn't cross my mind would be a lie, and to say it hasn't come out of my mouth wouldn't be true either. I catch myself after a funny feeling comes over me and follow up with something like "Naw, poor guy, he may be a (insert derogatory name to fit situation) but I don't wish bad things on him." By the way, IMHO name calling is just childish. Not really wrong, but very childish. Now where'd I put my choo choo train book.

About the battery powered loco. When I was in auto tech school many moons ago, when computers in cars was a coming thing and everyone knew how to set points and what a choke was, they claimed a vehicle, or anything, could not replenish the energy it consumed on it's own. Therefore a totally electric car would not work because it could not travel far without charging. I said, why not? They said physics. I said according to the laws of physics an engine can't work. At 6,000 rpm the internal parts cannot take the force exerted on them. Do the math. Factor the weight of the parts force applied to the piston, pins, rods, right through the crankshaft to the caps and bolts. And here's the kicker, to change direction the piston must come to a complete stop twice in every revolution and start again. It should break itself to pieces. Anyway, they said well then build one. I should have.

Rob- Of course Prayers for you and the little woman. I sure hope the sleep thing gets solved and the docs are right about solving most all the others.

Ray- You little tease. ONE picture? Oh well it is a good one!

Mom day today then wor... sorry, w**k tonight.

Have a Great Day!!!

If you'll all indulge me for just a moment........

For me it's kind of a sad but happy morning.  A good friend of mine has gone home to be with the Lord.  While I'm happy that she's no longer in pain and she's with her Lord, My wife and I miss her.

Leslie was only 37 years old, and seven years ago was diagnosed with *** Cancer.  She fought it, had all the surgeries, and the doc's thought they got it all.  I recieved word this morning that she lost her battle.

Leslie was a 10-year veteran of the Fishers Police Department and was also a member of the S.W.A.T. team.  She most recently served as a member of the Special Investigations Unit focusing on exposing and preventing Human Trafficking.

On the job, she was a tough as anyone, yet compassionate when the need arose.  Off the job, she was a true lady, a class act.  I've been proud to call her a friend.  She will most definately be missed.

A good friend of mine wrote this, and I think it fits.........

"Homesick"

You're in a better place, I've heard a thousand times
And at least a thousand times I've rejoiced for you
But the reason why I'm broken, the reason why I cry
Is how long must I wait to be with you

I close my eyes and I see your face
If home's where my heart is then I'm out of place
Lord, won't you give me strength to make it through somehow
I've never been more homesick than now

Help me Lord cause I don't understand your ways
The reason why I wonder if I'll ever know
But, even if you showed me, the hurt would be the same
Cause I'm still here so far away from home

I close my eyes and I see your face
If home's where my heart is then I'm out of place
Lord, won't you give me strength to make it through somehow
I've never been more homesick than now

In Christ, there are no goodbye
And in Christ, there is no end
So I'll hold onto Jesus with all that I have
To see you again
To see you again

And I close my eyes and I see your face
If home's where my heart is then I'm out of place
Lord, won't you give me strength to make it through somehow
Won't you give me strength to make it through somehow
Won't you give me strength to make it through somehow

I've never been more homesick than now

 Just a quick stop.

Got back from the dentist, and I'm pretty numb.  I will mostly hang around the house today.

Hope everybody has a good morning.

Todd, look up Proverbs 15:1 in your Bible or online.  (Or just click the link!)  Bet you didn't know you were quoting Scripture, huh?

Mornin' everyone!

It's c-c-c-coooooolllllllllddd in the house this morning.  Thermometer in the bedroom said 62°F and the other end of the house was colder than that....  Kicked on the oven for a bit, and then said, "what the hey, it's October in the Finger Lakes".  So I turned on the small gas heater in the living room (Which was originally a porch) and the place is now a bit more comfortable.  Outside it is an invigorating 44°F right now a few degrees up from earlier....  Might get up to 51°F this afternoon. Whistling

Ordered 4 face cords of hardwood for the stove last night.  May get a couple more later.

Philip, my thoughts and prayers go out to the Leslie's family and friends, and most especially to you my friend!  I look at the photo (it is said a photo speaks a thousand words) and see a wonderful smile and beautiful eyes that say exactly what you did about her.  I doubt there is anyone here that hasn't been touched by that form of cancer in some way.  In my family, my mother and one of my sisters have dealt with it.  Both of them were long term survivors of surgery.  The wife of one of my best train buddies around these parts is currently fighting the battle, and several others have and are dealing with it.  I just gave a donation to the American Cancer Society to help a friend with her "survivor" fund raising efforts (annual walk for life).  BTW, her son is one of "my" Eagle Scouts from my old troop.  Be blessed!  Oh and BTW, Proverbs 15:1 is very appropriate....  As is the Dali Lama's quote, "Often silence is the correct answer." Wink

Garry, nice!  Is that an 80 tonner in the lead?  Looks like what we use for train rides up at the museum.

Todd,  hmmmm....  OK!  One more.  This is a shot of the farm way up behind Hopewell junction.  From the front of the layout you can see it on a clear day way up the hill....  there is a vineyard near the house.  It looks a bit strange in the photo because the track is HO and the scene is otherwise "N".  It does work well on the layout as a "forced perspective" effect.  So far no one has come to the layout and figured it out until they were told how I did it.  There is also a black spot in the driveway by the house.....  I went to take the photo and saw this black spot on the roof of the house.  Got myself over where I could just reach the house and gave it a tap.  It fell off the roof and I saw that it was a dead bug of some sort.......  Enjoy!

Catch you all later!

Morning all, just a tall glass of milk, couple of biscuits and cover 'em with gravy.  Nothing much happening, just waiting on noon so I can go do the w**k thing till 5.  Today is a beautiful fall day, sunny, clear, little breeze blowing, cool but not cold (then again, its Alabama, so it never actually gets "cold").  Think I may ride the bike to w**k....

PC that was a wonderful poem, my thoughts and condolenses (sp?) to you and yours from me and mine.

Jim the house more or less needed to be completely remodelled.  Needed a new front door, little work around one of the windows in the living room, had to completely gut the master bedroom/bathroom and laundry room (mold issue from ocassional water leaks over the years).  Other bathroom was remodelled (new tub, new flooring and walls, pedestal sink, etc).  I'd say that right now we're about 85% complete, the master bathroom is still gutted, but ready to be put back together, the master bedroom is put back together, and primed, just have to redo the floor and put up the final coat(s) of paint and a little trim work.  Once that's done we'll be getting officially moved in (renting a place in town right now), and I can start on the things I really want to do (getting the shop set up, getting my train/hobby building set up, etc).  Ahhh, the things of getting a place of your own (and on 22.5 acres to boot!).

Well, that's about it on this end, glad to have heard from Rob, and healing thoughts and prayers to you and your better half!  Still haven't heard from Jeff, have we?  Well, I hope that he's getting rest and nothing serious has happened.

I will probably be in later this evening, after w**k, only a 5 hour day today, so its a blessing in a way (still got 40 hours on schedule though).  I'm off tomorrow, so I'll probably be on the way to Lowes to pick up some pre-cut studs (they're only 2.17 as compared to a traditional 2x4), so I can get the closet in the master bedroom built, but that's about it.  Probably going to ride a whole lot tomorrow (nothing really on the HD list for tomorrow, I'll talk to Amy about that tonight and make sure), but that's about it.  I'll be in later y'all.

Thanks for the breakfast and talk.

Good Morning Diners,

Just cinnamon toast and HC. this morning,  Thanks girls.

Where is Jeff, and whats going on down there ?  I am worried about the old master.

Well,  We got a new floor laid in the storage room and bed room in the basement and it looks good after the mud jackers blew the floor out of there.  Now I have to get the dividing walls back in and all the gear that was stuffed into the train room back into the bed room so I can better inspect the floor situation in there.  I know it isn't near as bad as the other two rooms but I know there has been alot of change in that floor and the elevations on the layout are all going to be screwed up.  Much work ahead of me before the "Wobbly" gets to wobble again.

I have tried to keep up with all the posts here but it has been difficult because during all this floor problem my MIL decided that she had lived long enough and passed away last week.  She was 88, and actually had a very healthy life other than some osteo-arthritisis.  The wife and her sisters are taking it well. Some of the Grand Kids are having it harder.

My prayers are with Ulrich, Rob and his wife and Jeff.  also Sue  and all others that stand in need.  Blessings to you all.

PC. Sorry for the loss of your friend.   What a beautiful smile she had.

I'm at work here this morning and it is raining cats and dogs.  It isn't to let up until tomorrow afternoon, but will stay cloudy and rainy for about the next week the weather guessers say.  So get your rubber boots ready CN Charlie.

Will try and get back in a little oftener ( is that a word? )  Oh well I'll figure that out later.

A special Hi to Jerry and Sallie, hope all is going as good as can be expected.  Do take care.

Johnboy out for now.......

Oh how I miss the wobbling of the "Wobbly"

I haven't been around much.  I have been dealing with headaches since Labor Day.  I hope they figure it our pretty.  I a tired of dragging around.

Later,  Sue

Chris, keep telling yourself that.Smile,Wink, & Grin Hey, you can have some fun with trying to run stuff past THAT editor, right? [};)] Yeah, I agree with you that there are bunches of different covered hoppers out there (and a lot of them won't fit in my RR's time period..), so if anyone is modeling a specific time period, they will probably end up having to learn the differences, too. Hard part is, some of the manufacturers will decal/paint their covered hoppers for the 'wrong' time period when that version was even produced and in use. Yep, I've found out that a time or two, after I bought the hopper...Banged Head

Okay, guess I'll be over at the RC today...

Ray, nice photo 'from the hole' - it looks about like one of those old oil-colored photos I've seen that were done before color prints were available (but that was before my time, I've just read a lot!).

On our continuing saga of the PBFH (or down the block..), I'm sure that Dorko-neighbor, if his dog been mauled by somebody else's dog (while visiting Calif.Tom's end of the block) would've whistled a completely different tune about loose dogs without adult supervision. Just a hunch though, I don't know that for a fact.Whistling

Garry, thanks for clearing my confusion up (well, some of it, anyway - there're still a few MRR'ing things I have to get straightened out, but..).Wink Like your shot of that drovers' caboose - who made that one?

Todd - on that business about how cars shouldn't work...?Confused Hey, wish you hadda built that thing, but then again, you'd be too rich by now to associate with the rest of us. Wink

Phillip, sorry to hear of Leslie's moving on to her home. With her having worked in the specific areas of law enforcement mentioned, she must have indeed been one great lady and woman. AngelAngel for any family and friends who are now missing her.

Robby, how much did the dentist do to/for you today? And are you doing that after-dentist thing where you drool out of a corner of your mouth...? (Just kidding you, hope things aren't that bad)

Still looking for any word about Jeff and how he's doing. Maybe the nurses had to tie him down for them to doctor him? Shock Hope not!

Ulrich, where are you, friend? You're missing your morning (well, probably evening over there) mug of coffee!

I'll be polishing off my breakfast at the RC, with Robby and PC, while I wait to see who else comes in.

Blessings on your new month,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

To All (An FYI).....

Near as I can tell, Jeff has been "detained" by his doctor in the hospital for his foot.  A call to his parents place got no answer, so I can't confirm at this time.  He did talk to me the other day and mentioned it as a very real possibility though.  I'll let you know if I find out more.
