Mark: The problem with ballasting is not 2 feet. It's 20. That much ballasting gets monotonous.

Hope you enjoyed the runby. I'm gonna see if I can;t get some video from the other side. Not as much fun though.

Last night weas slow, but first day on Wednesday usually is. they say we should be killing ourselves by the weekend. I'd like to get a busy car today though, I got forced out of my first one. Conductor just said pick a car, But after putting my stuff down and helping people on, When I got back in my car, another car attendent hasd already taken over. We don;t need two people working one car unless the other needs help, which I later did for a gentleman with trouble walking, and didn't want to create a scene in front of people, so I got to look like an idiot trying to find a open car instead. The one at the very back of things. Not today.

Here's a funny thing though. A bus was so far up on the crossing, that the gate was hitting the roof above the passenger body, almost to the first of two escape hatches on top. Not sure how we missed him, but we did.

Salon Car was having brake issues. Figures the car powering the air-conditioning would... Such a prima.

I'll get pics of the inside of the Salon car up for Antonio's interior reference page,

Good morning. If you're wondering why I haven't been around much it's because I've been busy (and still am) burning DVD's. It seems I have this big collection of Star Trek Enterprise DVD's that I would love to watch. Problem is they're all recorded in the PAL (a color TV standard with a picture frequency of 50 fields per second (625 line, 50 hertz), and sporting a better color picture than NTSC.) encoding standard which is incompatible with my NTSC (525 lines per frame at 30 frames per second) equipment. So what I'm having to do is translate the PAL format into NTSC and make a usable copy, for my private use of course. How this is done is quite technical in nature and would be a sure cure for insomnia should I explain it. Suffice it to say that I have a bunch of useless masters that I'm making into usable duplicates. This will add greatly to my growing Star Trek video collection. I have all the movies and the complete original series. I also some of the DS9 and Voyager series. I don't care much for the Next Generation series.

Good Morning.....

It's been a little hectic for me and so i've been absent from the diner. Looks like it's been eventful for many of you.

In partuclar, I'm truely sorry to learn about CN Charlie's FIL. We'll continue prayers.

I guess JP is still getting back to normal. I hope he saw the marching band. U of M is fine with me becasue I have lived in Ann Arbor.

I've been in Cincinnati last couple of days. Shelley was there the past week to be with granddaughters. The 18-year-old intruder who scared the daylights out of DIL and the  two granddaughters is guilty according to our wonderful courts. Not burglary or some major felony. He's guilty of tresspassing, a misdeamor. The sentencing has not occured yet, but he's out of jail.  He can't come near our son's house or or son's wife and daughters by court order. He must live out of the neighborhood and now resides with his grandmother 10 miles away. That grandmother phoned our daughter in law and chewed her out because her grandson could not possibly be guilty of anything. Of course, the 18-year-old's parent's did not wish to have their kid stranded and grandma's house, and they took his car to him. DIL is to appear at sentencing, and the judge will allow written statements from neighbors who have had some very bad experiences with this person for several years. Son and DIL would like to be compensated for cost the new ADT alarm system they had installed. In addtion to the alarm system, their new dog will be huge when he grows up. It's a big, black boxer / great dane puppy that already has giant paws. ..... Anyhow, we got home late last night.

Happy Model Roading

Good morning all,

Jim, good luck with that bonus.  Every time I get "extra" cash and have my sights set on MRR stuff something breaks! Starter, breaks, new window, you know all that boring stuff.

RT, nice sounds like you guys got along well (not), LOL

Rob, yes the slate is nice and it will last over 50 years, and freezing temps won't mess with it.

TrainsRme1, Welcome to the diner!

PC, Sounds like you have a busy schedule.

Mark, I did some ballast work last night myself.  I did a little track area and some larger areas around the icing track and ice house. Laid 1 coffee can of ballast, tonight after work I'll vacuum up probably 90% of what I put down.

I haven't really been around much lately.  Work and school keep getting in the way ya know.  I did manage to swing by the tracks yesterday and catch some of the goings on there.  Looks like major construction work is gearing up!  (Warning: Big pic!)  http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j319/pcarrell/Prototype%20Train%20Photos/IMG_0009.jpg  More MOW arrived while I was there.  I'll show more picvs later if you like.

Evening all.

Bored outta my mind... Stuck at my dad's house with a computer. And a TV. And annoying siblings that won't let me watch the new mythbusters so if I wan't to watch that I'll have to wait till 1 AM... Good times.

Anyways, I've been doing some more work on the layout. I ballasted a section of track about 2' long, I don't see why people hate doing it, it was fairly simple... Just had to run a fingernail along the rail to keep stuff off. I tested it with some older rolling stock (tyco) and they run through just fine. It's actually quieter than the rest of the track, which is good. I also got a backdrop that I have in the background, which is a painting someone made for PFM, where my grandad worked so I got it eventually, and it looks great. I'll get some pictures when I get back home.

On other things, summer is almost over, less than a month left. Football practice starts next week, and I turn 14 in a couple weeks. Hopefully a new engine or something will come. But then again, that weekend I'm at my dad's house... So if it's a new engine, only a switching layout to run it on, and if it's a drum related thing, well the kit is at the other house. Should be fun...

Talk to you guys later.

Greetings from Salinas,

Rained buckets on the way to JFK airport this morning, but we got through before the puddles on the Hutchinson River Parkway got too bad and made the flight ok. The drive from San Jose to Salinas down 101 was fine and we'd just checked into our rooms when the truck driver phoned in so we met him and got some dinner. The cars made it out ok though he lost about a day at Penske repair terminals (it's a rental tractor) trying to get the truck to run uphill at more than 25mph. With luck we can get into the track tomorrow and get parked though we don't know for sure and the organizers seem more than a little disorganized.

Charlie sorry to hear about your loss. Our thoughts and prayers for your wife and you.

Packers #1 - don't feed the sharks - ok? I had a large shark pop up way too close to my surf board one summer when I was a lifeguard and that was enough of a thrill forever for me thanks.

I'm ba-ack! and before you ask, yes, i did see a shark at the beach. He (or she) was a about a 3-4 ft. shovelhead shark (member of the hammerhead variety or whatever). It got to within maybe a yard or 2 of me (was mostly within 20ft. of the shore). It was a beauty too, man that was cool.

Tall glass of cool water, please. (too late for coffee, especially since I didn't get to sleep until 6:00am and then wife woke me up to run errands at 10:30am)Sleepy [|)]

***Lee, real slate is too expensive. Although we did look at some the other day and really did like it.

***RT, sorry you fried a controller. Bet you don't make that mistake again.

Stopped at that internet based train store today with the intention of blowing "investing" money on one of those SP GS-4 locos with the 10 car set, but they were closed. Hey, while I still have the wife's OK on it (she probably forgot how much those items cost), it's the right time to strike. (shhhhh!)

There are stacks & stacks of lumber out on the drive now. Early tomorrow morning the framing crew arrives. Contractor said we will be surprised how fast it all goes up.

Hope everyone is doing well this evening. Cowboy [C):-)] Rob

Lee back about 25 years ago My oldest brother came home from just getting done 4 weeks of reftra in cuba well bright eyes here ( oldest and youngest never really got along ) had a recording of this is a drill this is a drill general quarters general quarters all hands man your battle stations well you can guess what I did my father was laughing so hard he started to cry. I still get comments about that from time to time lol. ( I still owe you for your GQ prank you know)

We do seem to get along thou now a lot better than we did before. lol

Evening all not to much happening did have my conventional engines running in TMCC today for about 5 minutes but then I fried the controller by mistake so that will cost me $60.00 to replace . I will also have to get an 7amp inline circuit breaker to prevent that from happening again.

Paul,

Condition XRAY provides the least watertight integrity and the greatest ease of access throughout the ship. It is set when the threat to the ship is minimal. Condition XRAY is set during working hours when the ship is in port and there is no danger of attack or from weather. The minimum degree of tightness permitted on an operational ship is condition XRAY. When condition XRAY is set, all fittings marked with a black X are closed.

Condition YOKE provides a greater degree of watertight integrity than condition XRAY, but to a lesser degree than the maximum condition. YOKE is normally set at sea and in port during wartime. When Condition Yoke is set, all fittings marked with black Xs and Ys, Circle X and Circle Y are closed. A modified condition YOKE is sometimes used at sea when cruising independently in good weather and calm seas and in port in peacetime. In the modified condition, YOKE fittings above the waterline are left open to improve ventilation and habitability. All other XRAY and YOKE fittings are closed.

Condition ZEBRA provides the greatest degree of subdivision and water-tight integrity to the ship. It is the maximum state of readiness for the ship's survivability system. Condition ZEBRA is set: Immediately and automatically when general quarters is sounded; When entering or leaving port in wartime; To localize damage and control fire and flooding when the crew is not at general quarters; and At any time the CO deems the maximum condition of survivability should be set. When condition ZEBRA is set, all fittings marked with black Xs and Ys, Circle X, Circle Y, Circle Z, red Zs and DOG Zs are closed.

Dog Zebra (DOG Z) is normally set when you want to run "darken ship".

Hi Gang: I just got in from setting up the pump and irragation system. I pulled the pump in last night in case we got a lot of rain. We only got enough to make the dust on the trucks spotty.

CN I'm sorry to hear about your father in law. Please give you wife, her mother and the rest of the family my condolences and best wishes.

Lee I understand the batten down the hatches and gun ports, but whats a YOKE report?

Mary Ann and our daughter Lara took the GD Sara to school to get her resgestered. They haven't gotton back yet so they ether ran into problems or are off shopping.

I need to get going and help son John down at the road trimming brush so we can see whats coming.

I'll stop in tonight.

Good Morning, Zoe - I'll have a cup of coffee, glass of Ed's OJ, and a helping from Bill T.'s buffet, please 'n' Thanks!.

My apologies to Lee or others who were wanting the Ohio marching band. I'd tried to locate the Ohio band but couldn't locate them online when I went searching. Morning folks!

Another orange air quality alert day here in NC.

Finally learned how to set my f stop arpeture setting on the camera last night and took some new photos with a better depth of field, here are a few of them. And I Photo Shopped the background on the Prime Mover one:

Yeah, we would have probably found the patio furniture on the other side of the lake. When Rita came through in '05 our patio table (made from tubular steel and weighs over a hundred pounds) ended up in one of the neighbors yards almost a thousand feet away. The chairs were tied to a wrought iron roof support so they stayed put.

Good morning.

It's 78 and cloudy with fog. The high is expected to be in the low 90's with a mostly cloudy sky.

Nothing special going on today. I'm just burning DVD's.

Good morning all,

JP, WELCOME BACK!!!!  Sign - Welcome [#welcome] Pirate [oX)] Dinner [dinner]

CN Charlie, I am so sorry for your loss, please pass my condolences to your wife and family.

Jerry, What make hoppers and what replacement couplers did you use?

Jim, I thought we chatted 2 years ago about using the Ohio marching band vise the Michigan marching band. Gosh!

Johnboy, there are several scams out there and one has to pay attention to what they read.  I know if you tried to withdraw $8,000 from my account the bank would just laugh.

Rob, I feel for you. We just went through something like that with my Aunt. Not to mention I'm one of the few people on base will a full size pick-up so I get volunteered to help move people.  For your porch; ask about (real) slate tiles.

I added a diesel siding off the turntable last night; my friends have first generation diesels and they do quite a bit of work on my layout so I thought I should be nice to them.  Other than that I'm all steam as well.

Ryan, we need to find a hotel and have everyone meet there while you cook on the grill!  Better yet lease a passenger train and pick everyone up while you're in the gondola with the grill.

Jeff, lad to hear you didn't get much rain or wind, but if you had not tied everything down......

Der, that snow blower is something!

After 3:30am Insomnia again.

***Tom, I used a thick towel to hold Jambo while my wife gave him the oral antibiotics. Even with the towel, he came real close to getting me and he's a little cat. I'd almost rather wrestle with a steer. Hope Lowell continues to enjoy life with you.

***Der, that snowblower is so powerful, there isn't a spec of the white stuff left anywhere.Wink [;)]

***CN Charlie, very sorry to hear of your FIL's passing. Your wife will need that extra support, no doubt. Healing thoughts heading your family's way.

Our contractor said he planned 60-65 cents a tile? Well, after going to a major tile outlet (where a lot of contractors go) they basically told us there were no tiles suitable for a screened porch in that price range, unless we wanted a bunch of cracked tiles come a cold freeze. Will have to have a talk with our contractor about this.

Going to watch TV until I drift off.
