being the good tenants we are, We've decided to take it upon ourselves to move the Diner to a new thread, since the last one was numbering on 196 pages. So we hooked up a Trackmobile, and towed the Diner down the street to another prime RR spot. And yours truly is footing the bill for the new page.
So come in, put your feet up, say hi to the girls, grab a drink, shoot the wind. and watch some trains. I'll get a schedule up soon for us to refer to. Help is appreciated!
Hope this was alright.

Nice place. I'll have a ham and cheese sandwich.
I had a fire call to go to earlier. It was out in the woods on a deer lease and only the very lightest trucks could get to it. That meant the tankers (water carriers) had to stay out on the main road and refill the two brush trucks when they came back to reload on water. That kept me busy for a couple of hours at least.

Evening,Janie. I'll have a decaf
and a dish of vanilla ice cream, please. Thanks!
Well, this will be a 'cross-topic' post, starting in the former ETD and ending in the new one...
For everyone's general info, the usual 'schedule' for our virtual servers is Zoe - breakfast shift and weekdays, Chloe - dinner and night shift on weekdays, and on the weekend it could be Janie or Flo or (what's the newer gal's name, folks?)... But all of that is subject to change if the twins (Zoe and Chloe) need to cover for one of the other servers. The Diner's cook can fix most anything you can describe (depending on how game you are to eat it if it's a new dish). There's several booths, including one on the corner window, with a good view of the tracks for trainfanning, plus several tables and the usual counter. In the back there's a pool table and (might need some dusting off) a simple RR layout table, if you don't have company to talk with (like in the wee hours of the morning).
Oh, one other thing - if you post the first post for a page (called the Top Of Page or TOP honors), you get to pay for the virtual food and beverage bill for that page. Zoe and Chloe will keep a tab for you, but don't get too late in paying, 'cause you don't want to have to talk with their cousin Vinnie (if you know what I mean...). The Diner gets tank carloads shipped in of virtual OJ, courtesy of our Diner Ed, who has an orange grove in his place SOTB (south of the border, in Mexico, not to be confused with SOTB as described by our Canadian Diners in referring to what we call the United States)
And just because a Diner patron is not moving, it doesn't mean that he or she has deceased on the premises. Some have been know to doze off for a few days (uh, Duke?...) after working hard at their day jobs.
If you're new to the Diner, it never hurts to fill the other Diners in on what kind of MRR'ing you are into - like scale, modeling freelance or a particular prototype, kind of layout you are designing or building, etc. We're a nosy friendly bunch, and it's fine to share how your day (MRR'ing stuff or other) has been, and we don't push religion or prayer, but if you want 'em, there are several of us who'll put in some for your needs.
And keep in mind that this is a family establishment, including some of our fine teenage MR'ers, so watch your language, or Vinnie and Chloe will have the bar soap out for ya.
Think that covers the major stuff. Others can fill in the rest (like how you supposedly can tell apart Zoe and Chloe, right Flip?)
Blessings on your visit to the fine establishment of Elliott's Trackside Diner (in it's fifth edition, besides some other versions earlier by another name),

Okay, Janie, a refill on the coffee, please, while I finish catching up. Thanks!

Huh? You'll have to fill this person in about that, PC.
CN Charlie, sorry to hear about your father-in-law. Will be sending some up for him.
Okay, all our electricians and tree experts - now I have one more thing to keep up with! I have enough trouble telling trees apart as is, and now the pressure if there's a storm coming my way...
No word from my St. Louis friend with whom I was supposed to have lunch and see a movie this afternoon. Haven't heard anything back from her (email or voice) since Thursday, and I've sent (since Thurs.) 3 emails and tried calling her cell 3 times but keep getting her voicemail (and no response yet). So maybe one of her kids had some kind of problem, or she changed her mind.
Matt, in that photo you look like you are having way too much fun there.
I'll be resting in the middle booth for a bit. That ice cream did the trick.
Holy Cow, Flash--I'm not sure where you moved the diner, but I'll swear I just saw a YELLOWSTONE rumble by! Think I'll stay here for a while, LOL!

The guy with all the answers on the TV show Cheeers (think late 1980's).
Alrighty, a fresh start. How I will sleep tonight, I have no idea. I will be working with a real 90 ton steam locomotive tomorrow. Most of you will know the 19 from the movie Emperor of the North.
It will be my first opportunity with the old girl under steam so far since the season started on the Yreka Western.
I'll have some Chamomile Tea, please & thanks.
***Matt, how many and what type of cars will she be pulling? Any grades to contend with? Enjoy every minute of it.

Sadly we could not afford to stay in business... Some people kept refusing to pay their Tabs... We sold the business to Flash, so he can fail!
Good luck!

My Gosh, its late here! I should probably go to sleep shortly...

One cheese burger and a large coke please!
Well, I'm taking a new spin on my layout. I'm gonna do dual gauge instead of just narrow gauge. My love for ATSF Transition era got the best of me! Oh well, I'm not a rivet counter so the combonation of ATSF SG and D&RGW NG doesn't phase me.
Good Morning from Tipton IN !

Good morning diners, I'll have the Biscuits and gravy since Flash is buying. Oh and a cup of hot coffee since the herbal tea is making everyone a little funny, LOL. I make a motion that we put the trucks on the bottom of the diner and just lease a siding from the M.E.S.S., Autumns Range, or L.S.&W. for the diner, LOL.
Cleveland-Cliffs resurrected a F9 last month! After replacing aircompressors and a few minor parts A F9 A-B-B-B unit was fired up and rolled through the yard trampling small trees and undergrowth after sitting in storage. I'm only hearing bits and pieces of news. The train will be hauling taconite, yes a revenue train not an excursion! Cleveland-Cliffs merged with an enviro-fuel company that makes cubes from waste plant materials. The F9 departed sparrow yard with 89 cars last week, and there are pictures in photo-bucket of the event. From what I'm hearing the plan is to fire up an idle blast furnace using these fuel squares.

Jeff, have you ever had to use an Indian Pump to fight a grass/field fire? Talk about work, for the diners that may not know an Indian Pump (built by the Indian fire pump CO.) is a water tank you wear on your back and the nozzle is like a giant pump action water pistol.
OBTW, I found Michaels no longer sells plain onion paper. They have it in the scrapbooking section of the store, but it is embossed with starts and clouds. I did buy a pad of 25 pound tracing paper for $2. Much thinner than normal tracing paper. 50 sheets is less than an eighth of an inch thick.
Ok, I'm going to sit in the back a little bit before starting yard work....

Morning all!
Got woken up this morning by the emergency line of my work (it's connected to my cell phone). MAN, I HATE THAT THING! Everyone at my work is convinced that it never goes off, but the reason they think that is because I always handle it so they don't have to. It goes off at the worst times too. It lit up this morning at 6:45am. On my only morning to sleep in. Now don't get me wrong, I feel for the people on the other end of the line who are having a problem. Today I have a nursing home out of service, so it's a priority. It's just me being selfish I guess, and wanting to be asleep right now instead of working on Sunday morning. /rant
Sorry, had to get that off my chest. At least I didn't have to get up with Jeff!
ANYWAYS........
I teach later today, so I'm excited about that. Guess I can use this time to study up, huh? I've got my crews working on the phone problems.
Yeah, thats a good idea. Think I'll get on that.
Later!
Rob,
she will be pulling a SP Harriman and a 1925 Wood Great Northern caboose. We actually do have a couple 2% grades on the line. The steepest being Butcher Hill at 2.7% and part of it is on a curve. We will have our new excursion car done soon I hope as well. In addition we got some new passenger equipment from the Cal State RR Museum a couple weeks ago, but those cars will need some restoration before being put into service.

Good morning, sunny here today at least for a while, TS's and heavy rains once again in forecast for this afternoon. If we ever get the remnants of a hurricane here like back in 1955 with hurricane Diane with her 11" in 30 hrs, we are in deep doo-doo. All the lakes, ponds, and streams, are at top level. Too muggy to be outside today fro long, so I will be catching up on a lot of MRR reading. Trains and MRR mags arrived in mail yesterday, a great article in MRR on the expansion of their layout (N scale) but very appropriate for any scale. Nice techniques used.
I see we have a new location for the Diner, I like it here better by the Diamond, we get to see action now on all sides of the Diner. Duke crashing into the trash cans with his bike, Jeff roaring up with his souped up car and there goes a Berkshire with a 120 car drag across the diamond......hey, is that SCOTT I see on that GP7?
PC: Sit down and have breakfast lad, you look real tired after getting up so early this morning on that job over at wrinkle city! LOL
LEE: Hey those were great photos of that old girl. I noticed that the tracks are very unused, and the ties look very old and worn. Is this a new operation starting up at an old plant that has been idle for years?
FERGIE: More rain up your way I see, that pesky upper level LOW is headed right up over Nova Scotia today and tomorrow.
Later guys,

Cliffs-Erie Railroad started operations on 28JUL08. The 200 miles of track has been unused for 20-30 years. I just read that the company is investing $708M in this venture. I hear there is tons of MOW work still to be done and the blast furnace they intend to open has been cold for 30 years.
Here is a movie of the A-B-B-B in action.

I think the F9 will keep running since the shipping season shuts down November - March.
Morning all from SunnyCal--
Flo, how about my usual bacon and cheese omelette and some of that OJ? Thanks, hon.
Supposed to be 94 here today in the Central Valley, with a slight breeze. Hope they're right THIS time--it was supposed to be 88 yesterday and it topped out at 102. I've got a buddy who yells at the Weatherman on KCRA every day--ain't HIS fault, he just goes by the numbers on a computer, LOL!
Like the new location a lot--sure is a BUSY diamond. Oh, and Fergie--it wasn't the new Herbal tea, because I'm sipping a Mocha, and that Yellowstone just rumbled by AGAIN! This time it was pulling a reefer train of Mexican OJ. Hm.
To further Jim's remarks about the diner--Flo works on the weekends, you can tell her from her big 'Tricked-Out' name-tag. She's the cute little brunette who works weekdays on those funny TV car-insurance commercials ("SURPRISE!!--um, let's bag these up.").
I was in the LHS yesterday picking up some 'ore' for the mining project, and was informed that Sunset should be shipping my new Z-6 4-6-6-4 baby sometime in September. It's embarrassing when you leave a trail of drool while walking out the door, but I'm afraid that's what I did. They're also shipping some Espee Moguls ("Valley Malleys") about the same time, but I was surprised that those little puppies will require a 24" minimum radius (the Z only requires a 30"). Must be a LOT of piping 'twixt loco and tender on those little 2-6-0's.
Yah, I know--what am I going to do with a GN challenger on the Rio Grande? Well, it's a 'permanent Loaner.' I mean, my two L-105's are over-extended, and the L-97 UP clone just ain't cuttin' the mustard in these here hills. And the Z's have about 104,000 lbs of TE, almost as much as the 105's, so it should be a pretty good match. After all, I have to get all of that late-season California produce to you folks in the Midwest and East--otherwise how can you enjoy all those peaches, pears, apples, artichokes and strawberries, LOL?
Well, that's it for now, have to get ready to go play Noon Mass--the regular Noon musician is in Santa Cruz this weekend--lucky her. But that's okay, at least I get to work with a really CUTE little soprano.
Best to all, prayers to those in need.
Yeah! Lee's buying. I'll have the chili dogs, with extra cheese.
Hello ..
I just put the yellow star rating on the thread. That way JP can find this place. He said he will be back home on Tuesday. Jeff's already warming up the marching band to celebrate. Who's planning the picnic for JP?
The chapel car is spotted at the diner. Prayers for CN Charlie's dad. Also, for continued recover for Flash's Dad. (What's the latest, Flash?)....I hope Terry can eat that cheeseburger soon......... and for all others in need.
Looks like Bill had a new breakfast menu. yum!
Dick .... how's the garden doing now?
Tom is "expecting" his next mallet and his excitement is quite noticable. The Z-6 sounds like a nice engine.
And there's Fergie and his 2-10-4, and he's working on the track curves to accomodate it.
Lee ........... thanks for the links to the F9's.
Jeff ... you made me hungry with the picture of the chili dogs. You just had to post that, didn't you?
I actually had some mrr'ing time and spent it in the wood working shop. I'm making more bench work to extend the layout.
Happy Model railroading

***Lee, those are mighty beautiful F9's. Excellent pics! A taconite revenue train, who'd have thunk it! Suppose it must be cost effective, but I am surprised.
***Philip, it's tough doing things when your body is crying out for rest, even when they are important. Hope you get caught up on sleep soon. You're a good soul!
Had a real banger of a storm come through here yesterday. Some good wind gusts, lots of lightning, and mostly pea size hail. Did see several penny-sized hail. Sounded like rocks hitting the roof. It's just natures way of pruning small dead branches.
Have a great day, all.
Well, Well, I wondered when I dropped by the other night at page 193 if perhaps we'd be moved on soon. Thanks Morgan for hosting the move. .
Fergie: yes, that's the ship all right. It came in with the crane raised, and left with it as shown here. There is a bell buoy in the area where we saw it, but around the headland a touch, so we couldn't see it doing anything. Thanks for all the info on the good Earl. Not stuff we were taught in history classes in England; and hadn't picked it up here in 40+ years! (We did get to hear about General Wolfe, and the Heights of Abraham. He, BTW was born a few villages over from where Kris is from in Kent.)

Tom, you say the OJ train was passing through the diamond? Maybe the train orders hadn't been changed since it left Mexico, and it was going to the old Diner?
CN Charlie. Thanks for letting us know about your F-I-L. Please let your lady know that we are praying for him, and the family.

Speaking of busy diners.... None seems more so than Taylor's Automatic Refresher on Main Stree in St. Helena. This hamburger stand has become a landmark, having been established in 1949. When there Friday for lunch, there was a long order line, a normal situation I've been told. The prices reflect supply and demand. A hamburger, blue-cheese hamburger, sweet potato fries, onion rings, and two small soft drinks cost us $27+.
No Yellowstones went by, but the Napa Valley Wine Train with its FAs rumbling slowly alongside the street provided us entertainment while in line.
When you next move this Internet diner, may I suggest a move to CA State Highways 29 and 128 in Napa Valley.

Just been doing a little mr work today. The rolling stock from my newly acquired Athearn set looked too clean, so I weathered them a bit with alcohol and black acrylic treatment.
