I get those all the time. They're intent is to make you think there's a problem with your account and that they can take care of it for you but they need some info first. Usually your full name, address, phone #, date of birth, etc. The bank already has this info so why would they need it again. They use an old fashioned device called a telephone (today's cell-phone toting youth may dimly remember what those are) as their primary means of contact. Evening Gang: Not much going on here. I played taxi driver most of the day again. No wounder I can never get anything done. There isn't alot going on other wise. No rain and it doesn't look like there is much chance of any. It may cool down a bit by tomorrow for a couple of days and then back to 100+. It's about 105 again. I started the pump again this morning and then got down there again about 4:30. I fixed up the " spider " for the end of the 3 inch hose and it seems to be working well. What I did was to put 4 " Y" fittings in a row and took off of each with a 2 inch line about 20 feet long. That gives me a fan spread of about 40ft. I'm going to make the legs of the spider 40ft long tonight or tomorrow. That will make the fan spread 80 feet. I'll be covering more ground in less time. I hope.

Time to go and see if anything is being done about supper. With this heat Mary Ann doesn't feel much like cooking so I guess we'll go out.

Jeff:  Looks like the brunt decided on Galveston and East Texas instead, at least to the reports we're getting out here in not-so-sunny Cal.

Cloudy day here, today, about 90, and a little humid.  Clouds are winging up from the south (Mexican hurricane) and hitting the Sierra, which means they're slopping down here into the Valley.

Took Lowell in for his daily injections, one of the Vets phoned HER pharmacist and told him to put his appetite stimulator into liquid form in beef broth and mail it to me.  Mr. Mellow is NOT a pill-cat and I'm getting the marks to prove it.  My right arm right now looks like the NY Times crossword puzzle.  Should get it tomorrow or Thursday.  He's eating pretty well, still, and hasn't started vomiting--yet.  That's a bad sign.  But then, like I said, there's a cat that's usually ahead of me who's survived three years of this kidney disease so far, and is still perky.  Lowell's holding okay.  Sleeps a lot (what cat DOESN'T), and comes out just in time for the afternoon LAW AND ORDER re-runs (he's a Jerry Orbach fan).   He's down to about eight pounds, which is a MAJOR drop for him, but as I said, he's still holding.  We'll see.  Want to keep the little guy as long as I can, but NOT past suffering mode.

In the meantime, I bought some scale WWII tanks at the LHS so I can make up a total troop train for the layout--kits.  Holy Cow,  talk about a bunch of little PARTS--and I thought building a Red Caboose gondola kit required a magnifying glass!  Anyway, between the tanks, the Jeeps, the Howitzers and the Troop transports, I should really have something for all of those 'empty' flatcars of mine to do, LOL!

Well, back to work trying to place a machine-gun on a turret.  Who said this hobby doesn't go into places you never imagined? Mischief [:-,]

Later, all.  Best to all (and welcome home, JP) and prayers to those in need.

The amounmt of rain we've gotten here today could be considered a lot if you lived in a thimble, but in actual fact it was barely enough to get the windshield wet.

Good grief!  I'd never even open an email message from such an address which purports to report/advise on my financial dealings.  I would check with the bank, however, to see if my accounts are in order and report the apparent spurious/fraudulent email to them. It is disturbing that the sender had such information about you.  I'd request the bank to have its fraud division look into this.

Good evening Diners! I'll have a green tea please, as it's getting late here.

Rob:

Ryan, can you imagine drill presses, lathes, etc... in N scale? Nice job on those.
...I can Jim! Bring them on! In the mean time, check out the snowblower...

Paul:

I used to soak weeds in glycerine. I'll try that. Of course there is also dry them and dip in dilute white glue.
...I've used a hot glycerine soak, and the dried method.  The only reason I'd go back to the glycerine is if I knew the tress were going to take punishment (like foreground trees can).  I keep reading that the various ground foams used as "leaves" on any of these trees is best fixed with a cheap hair spray.  Haven't found that cheap spray yet!

RT: Great to hear about your good results!

I have enough problems I don't want to add diabetes to it.
... Amen to that, brother!  Don't forget it isn't just "sugar" on the label, but all kinds of sweeteners like honey, corn syrup and so on.  I find things made with white flour, even pasta, can spike my blood sugar, as can potatoes.  Every one's different, so the best way is to get a blood sugar meter and track what kinds of foods do what to your blood sugar levels.  Then you'll know for sure what you can and can't get away with.  The long term effects of diabetes are not fun, and are controllableMy 2 cents [2c]

Jerry:

Ryan..Nice paint job on the machinery..I keep 5 or 6 spring cloths pins on the work bench for all kinds of uses They make good clamps when glueing...
...[#ditto] on the nice job Ryan!  I got a chocolate box full of those spring clip hair grip things at a garage sale way back, they're great too, and make handy heat sinks for electronics soldering, since they are metal.

Non-mrr chores and projects still taking up the days.  Goodnight all, and God Bless. Prayers for all in need of healing, comfort and peace.Angel [angel]

Good evening, mostly cloudy all day today but not muggy and no rain...yet. We have rain right on our doorsteps and heavy rain scheduled for next 24 hours. It just keeps coming. I did manage to get the second step re-surfaced with cement top mix today, but I covered the whole thing with a tarp due to the expected heavy rains. I was going to seal the driveway but I need 24 hours of no rain, and that won't happen until next Monday by the looks of the forecast.

MIKE: That "is" a problem with no chain saw, no truck, and no woods nearby to supply your wood. The central boiler doesn't need much attention Mike, a neighbor that has one just throws a large log in there and it burns a long time. These logs are huge, they are not your typical 24" jobs, they are like 5 feet! So you don't have a lot of cutting, and no splitting is needed. I'm a little more fortunate here, central New England is all woods and we own about 9 acres of hardwood. For those who don't own enough wooded area, the State allows targeted cutting in the State forests to maintain healthy forest. But, you certainly will need a truck or at least use of one from a friend. Of course you could rent a trailer or truck.

JEFF: Did you dodge most of that rain from the Gulf storm?

A word of advice on email scams: There are Nigerian scams, Lottery scams, and certainly Bank or Credit card scams in which you receive very official looking emails. But please keep in mind, your bank will NEVER send you email concerning anything about your account that requires you sending classified data. They will always contact you by snail mail. And they will NEVER ask you to send private info via email like your account number/s. Don't fall for that BS, the bad guys are counting on you being stupid and gullable. One scam that has caught thousands of people is the one where some guy in high office has to get money out of his country because the rebel government is going to confiscate it all. Ya right, why wouldn't they just open a Swiss account. Be careful guys.

Time for bed,

Dick If you do what you always did, you'll get what you always got!! Learn from the mistakes of others, trust me........you can't live long enough to make all the mistakes yourself, I tried !! Evening all,

We are suppossed to get rain tomorrow and possibly lightining, not what we need with the fires. But I doubt it will happen, they have been saying this all summer and we haver not had so much as a cloud. Anyway next 2 days I have off of work which will be nice. I plan on starting the benchwork for my new layout. Smile [:)]

Good Evening Diners,

Thanks everyone for the kind words and thoughts on my father-in-law. Sadly he didn't make it and passed away on Saturday night. It has been very rough for my wife as she was close to her dad and certainly was a 'daddy's girl". I'll certainly miss him as he was a close friend too and we did a lot together. He was only 15 years older than me and so I never thought of him as a father figure. If your wondering about the small age difference, no my wife wasn't a child bride but rather it comes from one family where parents were older(mine) and the other younger(hers). In fact one of my wife's grandmothers was a year younger than my mother.

I do like the new establishment and as the staff has all moved too, what could be better. The old place needed a few renovations anyway and sometimes it is just easier to move.

I can't see me doing much model railroading for a while as I have and will be busy with the arrangements and then gettin my MIL settled in her new circumstances.

I'll keep looking in though as I like to hear what you are doing and sometimes I'll just be sitting quietly in the back booth with a cup of coffee. Join me if you like.

After 3:30am Insomnia again.

***Tom, I used a thick towel to hold Jambo while my wife gave him the oral antibiotics. Even with the towel, he came real close to getting me and he's a little cat. I'd almost rather wrestle with a steer. Hope Lowell continues to enjoy life with you.

***Der, that snowblower is so powerful, there isn't a spec of the white stuff left anywhere.Wink [;)]

***CN Charlie, very sorry to hear of your FIL's passing. Your wife will need that extra support, no doubt. Healing thoughts heading your family's way.

Our contractor said he planned 60-65 cents a tile? Well, after going to a major tile outlet (where a lot of contractors go) they basically told us there were no tiles suitable for a screened porch in that price range, unless we wanted a bunch of cracked tiles come a cold freeze. Will have to have a talk with our contractor about this.

Going to watch TV until I drift off.

Good morning all,

JP, WELCOME BACK!!!!  Sign - Welcome [#welcome] Pirate [oX)] Dinner [dinner]

CN Charlie, I am so sorry for your loss, please pass my condolences to your wife and family.

Jerry, What make hoppers and what replacement couplers did you use?

Jim, I thought we chatted 2 years ago about using the Ohio marching band vise the Michigan marching band. Gosh!

Johnboy, there are several scams out there and one has to pay attention to what they read.  I know if you tried to withdraw $8,000 from my account the bank would just laugh.

Rob, I feel for you. We just went through something like that with my Aunt. Not to mention I'm one of the few people on base will a full size pick-up so I get volunteered to help move people.  For your porch; ask about (real) slate tiles.

I added a diesel siding off the turntable last night; my friends have first generation diesels and they do quite a bit of work on my layout so I thought I should be nice to them.  Other than that I'm all steam as well.

Ryan, we need to find a hotel and have everyone meet there while you cook on the grill!  Better yet lease a passenger train and pick everyone up while you're in the gondola with the grill.

Jeff, lad to hear you didn't get much rain or wind, but if you had not tied everything down......

Der, that snow blower is something!

Yeah, we would have probably found the patio furniture on the other side of the lake. When Rita came through in '05 our patio table (made from tubular steel and weighs over a hundred pounds) ended up in one of the neighbors yards almost a thousand feet away. The chairs were tied to a wrought iron roof support so they stayed put.

Morning folks!

Another orange air quality alert day here in NC.

Finally learned how to set my f stop arpeture setting on the camera last night and took some new photos with a better depth of field, here are a few of them. And I Photo Shopped the background on the Prime Mover one:

Thanks Jerry! And glad you liked the menu too!

John Boy, the scamer folks have really gotten creative in their "social enginering" techniques. We just took an online training for "Cybersecurity Awareness" for all employees this past week, and email "phishing" is one of the more prolific forms at the moment.

RT, hope your health improves and thoughts and prayers continue!

Good Morning, Zoe - I'll have a cup of coffee, glass of Ed's OJ, and a helping from Bill T.'s buffet, please 'n' Thanks!.

My apologies to Lee or others who were wanting the Ohio marching band. I'd tried to locate the Ohio band but couldn't locate them online when I went searching. But Lee, if you have contacts, let's bring the Ohio marching band in for the 2nd day of celebrations for JP, okay?Smile [:)] Good idea about putting the grill on a gondola (just next to the passenger cars).Thumbs Up [tup]

CN Charlie, sorry to hear of your FIL's passing on. My condolences for you and your wife, and prayers for comfort and peace through these times. Angel [angel]

We're getting a (rain?) front move through our area today, but any rain must've been last night. Just clouds this morning, and slightly cooler (about 88 F for the high), with slight drop in humidity after the front moves through. Hey, any break in the heat after yesterday is appreciated!

DerJohn, nice job on that snow blower, and as Rob said, it appears to work just fine.Wink [;)]

Ryan, excellent menu for JP's welcoming home.Dinner [dinner]Yeah!! [yeah] I'll probably be planning for some of that BBQ once lunchtime gets here.

I'll be in the window booth, checking out the morning peddler freight.

Blessings and prayers,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Silverspike: Great shots! But the lighting on the Primer is a tad off, otherwise you have a real winner. Try brightening the shot of the car first?

Oh, hey Jim!

Maybe I can get the nice guys to rattle the train by. Peek out for A GP7 and a string of Budds.

Hi Gang: I just got in from setting up the pump and irragation system. I pulled the pump in last night in case we got a lot of rain. We only got enough to make the dust on the trucks spotty.

CN I'm sorry to hear about your father in law. Please give you wife, her mother and the rest of the family my condolences and best wishes.

Lee I understand the batten down the hatches and gun ports, but whats a YOKE report?

Mary Ann and our daughter Lara took the GD Sara to school to get her resgestered. They haven't gotton back yet so they ether ran into problems or are off shopping.

I need to get going and help son John down at the road trimming brush so we can see whats coming.

I'll stop in tonight.

Paul,

Condition XRAY provides the least watertight integrity and the greatest ease of access throughout the ship. It is set when the threat to the ship is minimal. Condition XRAY is set during working hours when the ship is in port and there is no danger of attack or from weather. The minimum degree of tightness permitted on an operational ship is condition XRAY. When condition XRAY is set, all fittings marked with a black X are closed.

Condition YOKE provides a greater degree of watertight integrity than condition XRAY, but to a lesser degree than the maximum condition. YOKE is normally set at sea and in port during wartime. When Condition Yoke is set, all fittings marked with black Xs and Ys, Circle X and Circle Y are closed. A modified condition YOKE is sometimes used at sea when cruising independently in good weather and calm seas and in port in peacetime. In the modified condition, YOKE fittings above the waterline are left open to improve ventilation and habitability. All other XRAY and YOKE fittings are closed.

Condition ZEBRA provides the greatest degree of subdivision and water-tight integrity to the ship. It is the maximum state of readiness for the ship's survivability system. Condition ZEBRA is set: Immediately and automatically when general quarters is sounded; When entering or leaving port in wartime; To localize damage and control fire and flooding when the crew is not at general quarters; and At any time the CO deems the maximum condition of survivability should be set. When condition ZEBRA is set, all fittings marked with black Xs and Ys, Circle X, Circle Y, Circle Z, red Zs and DOG Zs are closed.

Dog Zebra (DOG Z) is normally set when you want to run "darken ship".
