***Jeff, good to hear all is well. JB weld is good for lots of stuff. BTW, my Dad came very close to losing a foot to a Staff infection, also. Serious stuff.

***GS, hope your power is restored soon.

***Tom, your life doesn't seem to have enough challenges, does it now!Shock [:O] Do take real good care of yourself. Staff infections can be nasty, as my wife can attest to from working at hospitals. Glad you have a friend to help out with Lowell. healing thoughts heading your way for you (& Lowell as well).

***Terry, other than the off tastebuds, how are you doing? Feeling any better yet?

I found out that the tanks I was going to use on the military train are 1/72 scale--well, DUH!  No WONDER those tracks hang over the sides of the flatcar.  Looks as if I'll have to order some to-scale stuff from Walthers if I can ever get hold of a catalogue.

Tom, glad to hear they went in and took real care of the knee (and the staph!). On those tanks, you know that Walthers' site allows you to do an advanced search, by military, HO scale, and  enter 'tank' in the description/keyword section. I got over 300 matches (after eliminating transporter - use '!' without the single quotes - for terms to eliminate). There're a lot of them. If you have a specific model (like M19), you could enter that and tank in the description field. That'll save you lifting a heavy Walthers catalog. Hope that helps, since you're able to get to the computer. Wink [;)]

Well, time for me to head for home. See everyone later!

Thanks guys, I really appreciate the good wishes.  And so glad to hear that at least so far, everyone of our friends on the Gulf have weathered Gus well.

Well, of course, my errant knee blows the Heck out of the 2012 Old Fart's Gymnastic competition at the London Olympics, LOL!  And I was getting SO close to finding out how the Heck you mounted that balance bar without a stepladder.  Oh, well--

Jim:  Thanks a bunch on the Walthers contact, I found four HO scale WWII Shermans, and just ordered them.  Buddy of mine suggested I order one of those big, hunkin' railway guns, I blinked and said, "Yah, but they're GERMAN!"  "So, we CAPTURED one."  "I've already got a captured German tank."  "So think BIG!"  "The barrel won't fit through my TUNNELS!"  He just shrugged.  "Passing up a good opportunity."

Yah, well, HE'S the Military expert, LOL!  He doesn't run my MR.  Even on a 34" radius, the barrel overhang on that thing would be clearing out my SCENERY!   But Dang, it would look so cool--

Okay, it must be time for my antibiotics, LOL!   That, and I made a tamale pie, tonight.  Hope I can taste the darned thing.

Best to all, prayers to those in need.

Hey everybody, I'm back.

I've been very busy over the summer, being away from home 29 consecutive days without a laptop or other computer. Then school started on August 18th, and I haven't been able to come on and blog extensively on my adventures. Its 10 p.m. and I know I'll have to go to sleep soon so I won't start in yet, save to say I saw tons of trains. Here's a sample.

This picture was taken in Baldwin, FL. And I agree, it's a good prototype for track-carrying cars

Evening Gang:

Jeff it's good to hear from you. GS good to hear that you weathered the storm also.

We got a little shower here. Just enough to keep the dust down. I was hoping that we'd get a couple of inches.

I put the brush hog on the old International 574 and mowed the right of way down at the UP. I got the area southwest of the crossing done and started southeast of the crossing. I had to quit after I busted the fourth shear pin. Since it was the last one I had I had to make a run to Ellis Equipment for some more. I got a dozen and 10 linch pins. By the time I got back it was close to supper time. I'll do some up keep on the mower and adjust the lift links to the lower lift arms so I can lift the mower higher when traveling. The UP had a track machine working so I had some " track time " from him. Tomorrow I'll try and get some more done. The weeds were higher then my head and I really got a good dusting with pollen and dust.

Well I guess I'll head for bed.

Good Night All

Good morning.

It's 79 and very cloudy and wet. The high today is expected to be in the mid 80's and rain is very likely.

I spent much of yesterday getting my life back on track after Gustav passed through. There wasn't much damage hare, no big trees blown over. There were a lot of branches and small debris. The only damage to my home that I could find is a cracked window and that has already been tended to. My parents had a heavy patio table get blown over and the sliding screen door to the pool area got pulled out of it's frame and collapsed. Over than that it's just tree branches strewn about the yard.

Good morning all.

TWhite, There are 3 heavy duty flat cars and one depressed center flat car on the bay right now.  All but one is a kit new in the box by roundhouse. Might be a good addition to your military train.

If you talking about the gun I think your friend is trying to talk you into you need parallel tracks for it.  My LHS had a 1 scale model of it in the front window, very impressive model with a cast aluminum barrel.  I think it would look good in HO-Scale on your layout.

Good Morning

Busy week here. Son, DIL, Grandkids went back to Cincinnati after the Labor Day weekend visit here. Yesterday, my 89 year old Mom and one sister arrived from Alabama. Also, my other sister arrived from Michigan. Birthday celebration for both my Michigan sister and myself is today. Anniversary celebration for Shelley and I is Friday.

Not much model railroading going on.

Cheers everybody.

***Paul, if you quite trying to use that brush-hog for making ballast and only used it for cutting down brush, perhaps those pins would last longer.Wink [;)]Laugh [(-D]

***Rotor, Tinytoons hooves would be too small to "nail" any kind of horse shoe to them, even if they made one small enough. So glue is the only option and at her size, "Super Fast" works great to hold them on. Her shoes are for one purpose only, to allow her to walk. Here is her story. I need to update these photos one day, as they are quite a few years old now, although she is still tiny.  http://paintedhorses.homestead.com/tinytoons.html

Construction crew returned today and have been banging away since 7:30am. Wife couldn't sleep at all last night, as her bad tooth is hurting again. Time she makes that Dentist appointment.

Good Morning, Diners! Zoe, I'll have the Steph's Special off Bill T.'s menu, please, and a cup of coffee and glass of Ed's OJ. Thanks!

And today (ahem!) is Garry's birthday! Happy B-Day [bday], and you would be 39, right, Garry? Wink [;)]

Zoe, bring the ice cream gallons from the back freezer, too, please. Got to have ice cream with cake for the 'Birthday Boy'!

Hi again, Rotorranch! What've you been up to lately on your MRR'ing?

Jeff, if the worst your folks had was some downed branches, that wasn't bad at all. Good news there! Thumbs Up [tup]

Called my (older) brother Mike (in L.A., sunny Calif.) last night to wish him a Happy B-Day [bday] He'd just got back in from dinner (and went to ?Santa Barbara zoo? earlier in the day). He retired at 55 (the rat...) and is now 64. Ah well, some people luck out. Sigh [sigh] He does large weaving and textile pieces (we're talking wall-hanging size, or hallway length runners, the big bucks stuff). He'd retired after working at AmGen and finished up as their VP of Research & Development. Had a Ph.D. in biochemistry. But that's another whole story for later...

Think I'll go back and try some other plans for the layout expansion. I'm wanting an addition with one or two 2'X4' sections added at one end of the current two. Here's a very rough drawing of the concept:

I'm wanting to have a closure for the passing track on the main, but only add two feet of width (when I planned with trying to fit a turntable in, it took three feet, which I don't expect to have until I have a basement of large second bedroom - and that won't be this year). Some plans I had involved putting a mountain up above (and to the left of) the current industrial area, with a mine up there. However, that would involve more than 8 feet to get a switchback to the mine, etc., so if I built it now, I'd have to wait for a second bedroom size area to be able to get where I could run cars from the main to the mine. That make any sense for you all? Wink [;)]

I'll get back to my breakfast now, and see who else drops by.

Blessings,

***HAPPY BIRTHDAY Garry. Happy Anniversary, too.

***Lee, the contract is for up to 6 months, so it's a safe bet to say "by Christmas". After today, looks like they will be ready for the tin, but that takes a week to get in after ordering. I can't imagine the electrition coming in before the roof is finished, but perhaps the plumber could(?), unless the two have to work together(?). I'm ready to go with my speaker wire as soon as those two do their thing.

***Jim, I like the layout addition.Thumbs Up [tup] Looks functional to me, (not that I know squat about RR functionality).

Rob, hope your guys get things wound up before Thanksgiving for you, even! As for my layout addition, that drawing was very rough (notice the weird curve connecting to the passing siding). My better drawings are on my laptop (and I'm at work now, where my laptop can't login to get to the internet. I'll do that after work today). Have you talked yet with the stereo place about the wiring ideas for your train room and master bedroom? Want to try to get those wires in before they get all the drywall put in.

Ooh, let me get another plate of that shrimp, please, Zoe. Thanks!Whistling [:-^]
