Packers#1: Dude... You've been on this forum half a year. You have about the same amount of posts as me, and I've been here two years.
The conclusion?
You talk a lot.

Good morning. Two grandkids arrived last night for a coupld of days. They brought their parents.
Gustav is definately in the news. Jeff, do you take locomotives and other high value stuff when you head for your parents home to evacuate your place?

Gustav is coming and it looks like nothing is gonna stop it. See the red dot on the white line for Tuesday? That's where I am.
Happy Sabbath Morning to you all.
Zoe.... A western omlette and Cranberry tea would suit me just fine, Thanks....
Dick (Grayfox) We really haven't seen much action with the Canada Geese here, they seem to be quite content as yet. Maybe it will only be an early winter in the east.
Hope all you good ole boys down south fair well through this next couple of days. I can hardly imagine what it is like to be constantly watching over your shoulder for those bloody storms. Makes a little cold weather here in the Great White North look not too bad.
That is a good suggestion for you Jeff. Some heavy poly or a tarp over your layout just in case the prop on that air conditioner gets going so fast that it crosses the room and then the wind, dust then rain have access to the Midland Gulf.
Haven't posted much lately, but have been reading the posts here while at work.
I have been suffering with my hips and some siatica (spelling) pain and have not done too much.
Last night I put together two centerline track cleaners that I got off Ebay for the price of one. Made a train out of them (one wet and one dry) preceded by a Walther's track cleaner and followed by a masonite cleaner car and a MOW caboose. Ran real good and looks like it will do a great job. Pulled it with a couple of Mantua geeps (Gp20s) as they seemed to be geared better for the job.
For those of you that haven't taken the time to look, take a read on the Micro Mark catologue, they sure have some good prices right now. What a fanastic selection they always have, my want list is always growing.
Rob, Whats the latest on the re-build ? What is the presumed date of the move in ? Hope you and your wife are extremely happy with the result.
Well I had better get back to work and look like I am here for some reason other than to be on the Forum.
Big Labor Day Football game today. Winnipeg Blue Bombers are in town to try and get one over on our Roughriders. (Not a chance, CN Charlie or Blind Bruce) Don't put any money out there unless you are wanting to make a donation.
Prayers and blessings to all in need

I'd rather have a cold than something like the flu, dry heaves (not fun, I can tell you), or a busted leg, lol.
Jeff, our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family as you ride out the storm.
My parents who still live on the Westbank of New Orleans where we used to live up until January 2006 have evacuated. They left their house at 8:30 am CDT and on last report they had gotten as far as Opelousas, LA via Airline Hwy and I-49 by 12:30 pm CDT. They are on their way to Henderson, TX to stay at a Best Western that allows animals since they have two large black labs to travel with.
My in-laws and SIL are still there and will most likely make a dash for it later today or very early tomorrow AM, they live on the Westbank too!
Godspeed to you all on your evacuations!

Not fun.
I'd rather have that and have my friend still alive than be fine and have him dead.
I hear ya on that. I've lost many friends and relatives over the years.
Evening Flo, I'll have some of that New England Clam Chowder, please, and a tall glass of Dr. Pepper with that, please. Oh yes, and some oyster crackers with that, too, please. Thanks!
Jeff, is your folks' place built out of concrete or something close? The biggest thing I can think of for hurricane-proofing a house would be what some houses 30 or so miles south of us did to tornado-proof the homes they were selling a number of years ago - concrete construction. I guess they had rebar all throught the roof of concrete or such as that. Is that what your folks did? I would ditto the idea of having a tarp over your layout (and lash it down) to keep any possible rain and junk from piling up when Gustav moves through. Will be keeping both your and Terry's necks o' the woods in my prayers over the next several days.
Terry, make sure your place is battened down and all the stuff done today that you had on that hurricane list. Gustav could still generate a lot of twisters after landfall.
Dick, that hurricane you were talking about that you had up your way a few years ago - was that the one that they referred to in "The Perfect Storm" movie (loosely adapted for the movie, of course)? How far inland is your place, again?
Right now, southeast Missouri doesn't seem all that far to me from the Gulf Coast...
Hoople wrote:Packers#1: Dude... You've been on this forum half a year. You have about the same amount of posts as me, and I've been here two years. The conclusion? You talk a lot.
Nah, Mark - you're just busy with other stuff and don't get in here as often as Packers#1 has since he started stopping by. You can catch up pretty easy if you try, though...
Packers#1, will add Shayne's family to my list.
JohnBoy, you don't want to come down to the Gulf coast and live where it gets really 'Wild & Wooly'? (Nah, me either... close enough where I am!)
Mitch, sounds like in spite of her problems, your Mom's still working on getting herself to the other hospital (and then really starting to work on her progress!). She's a fighter, for sure.
Sounds like a lot of you Diners are having family over for the weekend - and Jeff's parents, too! Tomorrow is our singles Labor Day luncheon party. We're having it in the middle of the day, so those who have to go to work Tuesday a.m. can get their 8 or 6 hours of sleep (per Dr. Dick's recommendations ). Don't know if we'll have the volleyball and the croquet set up or not. Guess I'll see tomorrow when I get there. I'm picking up and bringing my buddy Mark, who hasn't been able to get to as many of the things (due to his transportation difficulties). Should do him some good to get out for something besides church and work.
I started setting up the walls for the church I'm scratchbuilding, but decided I'll have to take them out of the gluing rig since I'll need to cut the window openings first. Any of you Diners cut window openings in clapboard (styrene), and what tool did you use for that? I'm thinking of using a small drill bit with my Dremel (inside of the limits of the opening), and then use Xacto knife and sandpaper to enlarge it to the size I need. Fun part will be, most of the windows will not be rectangular - side windows will most all be gothic type (or tall rectangles with a triangular apex at the top). There'll be one and maybe both ends of the narrow side where I'll have a round window near the top of the wall. I'll sketch up some drawings and post some time tomorrow to make it clearer.
Well, that chowder started up my appetite. Now I'd better order a full dinner , and that might take a bit to eat, so I might be in the corner booth until it's time to head for home!
Prayers for safety for all those along the Gulf coast and all the public safety people who'll be working out in or after Gustav. Healing prayers for your Mom, Mitch, and for all the rest who are ailing.
Blessings,
Jim in Cape Girardeau

***Johnboy, sorry about your hip pains. Sounds miserable, or at the very least annoying.
***Jeffrey, you have a very good, realistic attitude. Crossing my fingers nothing happens to your home and layout.

***I would rather have both of those at the same time than a bad molar that is infected into the nerve...that was THE WORST pain I can ever remember having. Worse than a broken hand, shin splints, torn rotator, torn ligaments, etc... Only time I ever thought death might not be such a bad thing.
***Sawyer, understand that one. Losing my mother was the greatest loss of my life, bar none.
***Mitch, continued healing thoughts heading your mothers way.
I'll try to post some progress pics soon. Ran out of screws this evening or I would have finished the entry portion of the new porch. At least the remaining boards are down so wife can bring her dad out to see all the construction going on tomorrow. I know she continues to have a rough time seeing him in such poor shape. He was always such a hard working and proud man before that major stroke.

Hey all!
I'm back!
And it looks like Jeff is about to have him some fun! Whats the deal Jeff? You jealous of all the fun Mr. Parks had last week so now you're trying to follow suit? Take care, OK? I'll be praying for you!
And Packers......Shayne's family is in my prayers.
Well, vacation was great. I'll post some pics tomorrow, but right now I'm wiped out. Long day on the lake and then driving back.
Later!
OK folks, I've got the projected path of Gustav and that sorry POS is coming right at me. I'll make it easy on the dial-up crowd and just post the link. Click the link to see the radar map.
