Hi Gang: I just got up to the bedroom and am getting ready for bed. Not much doing today. I put out hay for the heiffers and hauled the brush that I had piled in the field by the UP. It is now on the burn pile and ready for a light. John went out and raked and baled the small field and then went over and raked and baled part of the big field. That means that I don't have to go out there and do the raking. The allergies are kikking up today. I had to walk through the pasture and get the cattle. The pastures all have alot of rag feed. It's been a real bumper crop of that this year.

Der that water with wave action is really looking good.

Jeff I'm happy to see that you are getting those shoes with my money. You deserve it.

Well I'm going to head for bed.

Good Night All

Howdy ....

Guess what! .............are your sitting down? .....................something happened this afternoon................ We traded the RV travel trailer for an Porsche sports car.......

Basically, we traded one problem for another. Yikes! This could take a bite out of  the MRR budget!  Perhaps Santa will bring a gold chain necklace to me this Christmas! ....Shelley says I am on my second life after surviving my mid August attack, and she says I deserve to have a little fun. So, the car needs tires and some minor repairs. I hope the repairs are minor anyhow.

Jerry ... I'm gald your Doc gave a good report.

Rob ... Best wishes for your ultrasound. Let us know how it goes.

TrainsRus .... Enjoy DC.  .... I made many trips there in my working days to the ICC when it still regulated RR's and to the ARR.  I worked with consultants there in DC, too. It's really a good city. On a somber note, I would sometimes visit the Viet Nam memorial to see some friends's names on the wall.

Der John  ...I'm impressed with the layout. Your avatar looks like a distinguished English Gentleman. (beats beng an extinguished English Gentleman.) I'm gald to see your posts.

Dick..........are you done ladder climbing so we can relax here?

Evidently, nobody has awakened  Duke. Perhaps, we need to sound a locomotive air horn in the corner booth. Would that wake him?

Happy Model Railroading!

No LHS anywhere near DeRidder or Leesville. The nearest is in Alexandria, 60 miles from here. Got the visit to the doc out of the way for now. The fitting wasn't scheduled for today. It was mainly getting the paperwork out of the way. Somewhere along the line there was a foul-up in communications. The dos got the message that I needed diabetic shoes. What I need are custom molded shoes. Big, big difference there. I go back next Tuesday (30th) for measurements and to have castings made.

Good morning all.

I'll have a cinnamon roll and a milk please.

Still can't believe that patriots got killed by the DOLPHINS... just shows that Tom Brady is the whole team...

Sawyer: Probably we will. Unless your team plays like it did in the 4th quarter all season.

Jim: That is a very good point... I could always ask my uncle. He's got the same size as me.

Anyways, I'll catch you guys later.

Morning, Zoe - a cup of coffee and a chocolate donut, please.

Thanks!

DerJohn, if I'm 'listening' right to you, you want to convert your images (on your computer) to an avatar, and then upload it to use on the forums in your profile here, correct? If that's right, you need to measure (download and look at them in Paint or some other graphics editing program) how many pixels wide by high most are, and then re-size what you have on your computer to fit that. But that's figuring that the forum software only will re-size up to a point. You may find that shrinking some pics down makes them hard to 'see' (make sense of at that size), but try other pics til you find one that works for you.  From my use of Paint on my work computer, I think in Paint that it's under Image -> Stretch/Skew, and you pick a percentage to reduce your JPEG or GIF (vs. original size) - say 50% - and click on OK. If that size doesn't work, do Undo (under the Edit menu in Paint) and try another percentage. Once you have the size you want, save the file with whatever name for the avatar that you want (on your computer). Then you can do the stuff Flashwave & others mentioned, to get the avatar on the forum. If the forum wants you to use a link, just upload it to your PhotoBucket account and use that link. Hope that helps you get there!

Jeff, another great report - now get 'em to make doubly sure the measurements are accurate so those elves can get going with making your new shoes. Yeah!! [yeah]

TrainsRMe, watch the jet lag, and happy LHS'ing! Thumbs Up [tup]

Hope everyone is getting enough rest lately. I've noticed that in the fall (used to be around when we changed over from DST to standard time) around now or so, I need more rest. I figured it's my body trying to shift into 'conserve energy; hibernate' mode. Zzz [zzz]Wink [;)] But I do know I need to watch that I get sufficient rest in the fall.

Our trees here in Cape are starting to change colors(colours for our northern and English friends Wink [;)]) and I figure they'll be about all decked out by this weekend. In the past few years, it's seemed like about this time it'll rain, and then all the lovely leaves drop and are in the streets.Oops [oops] But maybe this year we'll have more time to enjoy the fall 'plumage'.

At MRR club last night, we got the rest of the roadbed down, but then 3 or 4 members were tackling putting the turnouts in (and we had to hold up on the rest of the track until they were in place). Next week I guess we'll be able to get really going on the mainline tracklaying. Also picked up a tan BNSF ball cap (yeah, I know - too modern for my layout. I'll see if I can get someone to re-embroider to replace the BN with 'AT'SF (or 'AT&'). Maybe see if they can put some red around the red-orange letters to make it closer to the older Santa Fe colors.

Well, I'll be in the front booth if anyone else comes in. Prayers for safety on trips (and on platforms) and healing and comfort for those in need (most of us).

Blessings and prayers,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Lee:

Der, what will you be using as water for along your pier?  I have a small river and I was thinking of clear poly or something topped with WS water effects.  I made it deep enough I wanted to submerge fish and maybe a mermaid in the bottom of the river.

...if you are going to submerge things, or "people" Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg], then your clear poly etc. is a must. However, I just use poured plaster and paint, then good old Gloss ModPodge.  It can look quite real in the right light! and not bad in regular light

Thanks for the reminder, that strip of ocean has been stark white too long, but since the desk is moved away from in front of it to do the dock, I'm on it!

Good morning gents, a colder one last night, northern New England got down to 27F (-3C) in the colder spots, and the ocean Buoy in Boston Harbor was 59F, it has dropped form 68F to 59F in a month...hmmmmm, we may indeed be in for an early Winter this year as the Farmer's Almanac said. 56F here now at 9:17am.

Trying to get back to some MRR work, but with the cold weather moving in faster than normal, we have to take each sunny day we get to get all planned projects outside the house completed.

JEFF: Hope the sizing is done properly for your new shoes. And yes, it is a good thing that Medicare takes care of these things, $700 for a pair of shoes can be a budget smasher for sure.

FERGIE: Checked along the shore, no little yellow rubber ducks sighted yet.

I see that Internet Trains has a BIG sale on structures and kits, some of the items are very well priced guys, check it out on their website.

OK, time to get up on the ladder and staging again, got to get this job DONE !!, see you all at lunchtime.

Good morning all,

Today: Sunny, with a high near 74. East wind between 8 and 11 mph. Tonight: Mostly clear, with a low around 56. East wind around 8 mph. Wednesday: Sunny, with a high near 77. South wind 6 to 8 mph becoming north.

Jeff, good luck with the castings. The underpass for Collingwood yard near my house is scarred with the several trucks that have gotten stuck.  Flashing lights and about 6 signs warn you about the clearance.

Trainsrme1, I thought I saw a passenger mooning me as they flew overhead, LOL.

Speaking of mooning; one of the dealers at the train show had just that, figures of people flashing and mooning in N-scale and HO-scale. Some of the things people come up with.

Der, what will you be using as water for along your pier?  I have a small river and I was thinking of clear poly or something topped with WS water effects.  I made it deep enough I wanted to submerge fish and maybe a mermaid in the bottom of the river.

PC, is the Autumn Ridge in full color yet?

Hope everybody has a good one.  Wink [;)]

Morning all!

Have fun with the castings Jeff.  We know all about that.  We have to do the same thing for leg braces for my son and wife.  My son will be out of his night braces soon though, and he hasn't had to wear the day ones since shortly after the surgery last winter.

Oh well, I'm off!

Prayers for all those in need!

Good morning.

It's 71 and clear. The high will be in the upper 80's and it will be partly cloudy.

This morning I'll be going to see a certified orthotist about having a pair of shoes made. I can't just go to a shoe store and pick out a pair that I like. I wish I could. The last pair lasted 2 years and cost $350 - EACH! I don't know how much the new ones will cost. Today's visit is just to do the measurements and have the castings made. The castings will be sent to a company (in New York I think) that makes custom molded diabetic footwear. A pair of molds will be made from the castings and sent back here for a test fitting. They will then be sent back to the maker along with whatever notes and adjustments the doc comes up with. This information will then be used in the making of the shoes. Wanna know who's paying for all this? You - the American taxpayer. Thank you for making this possible.

Der that's tough about AL. If you get the chance give his family and him my best.

Jeff that's good news about your shoes. I'll second you hope that they get the measurements right.

John got the swather fixed today and finished cutting the big field. Tomorrow he's going back out and rake and bale the small field then he'll hook up the rake to the new tractor and I'll go out thurs and rake the big field. He'll bale that Friday. Right now I'm going to hit the sack.

Morgan: That's my problem...

your avatar saved as a .JPEG, .GIF...
...I want to know how to make an avatar in order to save it in My Pictures as a .jpeg or whatever, so that I can do what you so eloquently describe (follow the instructions in Update Profile).

I've got all sorts of pics in My Pictures. How do I make any of them into avatars? Thanks.

I'ma gonna assume I'm understanding your question, but at the top of this page, click on the link "Update profile" Scroll down, there should be a section marked "avatar" and then a long empty box and a button marked "browse" click browse. It will oepn up your my pictures, then find your avatar, saved as a JPG, GIF, Etc. click on the pucture or open, the way you do to insert a picture. then the my picture screen will go away, and you'll click on the update button next to the browse button.

Also, the default background for the avatars is black. Which is why my Daylight shows up the way it does, and i:m just to lazy to fix it. So if you have the picture set for no background, and I;m not sure you can do it with JPGs, you best not have any black outside the pic.

Confused yet?

Good evening folks: I'll have an Earl Grey tea, and one of those baked apples with custard please Chloe; thanks Tom!

A productive day outside as the weather was just right. Even the mosquitoes stayed away until after dinner, when I was weed whacking instead of walking. Finally got around to clearing the brush (alder mainly) that has grown up along the road. It was tall enough to obstruct the view of our mailbox and Civic Number.  That could be important in a 911 emergency, so although it's a Dept. of Highways matter, we got it cut for far enough to do the job.

Also finally got around to the second coat of paint on that dock, and the rails cleaned off somewhat. (Test run indicates some more work required there, even though I used the gleam method.Banged Head [banghead])

Here's the too clean looking dock now, with what I think is a better concrete colour than it had (and more importantly, a better level for the concrete at the tracks.)

And the other end...

The old colour is seen in these shots...

CapeJim:

I do recall that the laying of the 'mudding' for it took about three coats to get all smoothed out.
...I gave up on that in the end, and went with some rough spots.  One turns out to be in a parking area, and looks like it could be quite interesting.

Jeff:  That community park scene keeps looking good! That's good news about your feet.

Would some-one please direct me to the place on the forums, or to a site that explains how to make an avatar from a .jpeg photo? Thanks. There's lots about how to put an avatar in a signature, etc, but how to make the thing in the first place....

Dick:

you must be more careful where you dump the wheelbarrow and what is in it.
...no Dick, that's not the problem.  What I have to be more careful about is listening!

Hoping for Midsomer Murders tonight.  It was pre-empted last week.

Have to get back to cleaning that track. Goodnight all, and God Bless. Prayers for all in need of healing, comfort and peace.Angel [angel]
