Good evening, cloudy day here today, the sun never made an appearance. The new Bow window was installed Saturday with the help of sons, daighter and SIL. Now the rest was up to me to build the upper and lower part of the Bow outside up on staging. Pumps jacks are really handy when working 12 feet off the ground rather than ladders. You have to watch your step however, the boards on the staging give me only 20" width, therefore only tea and coffee are allowed..LOL
WARNING: I found out on the news tonight what FERGIE was up to in Baffin Bay. They have released a bunch of yellow rubber ducks that have instrumentation in them for GPS tracking. They want to see where the ice flows are headed as well as the currents. So if you find one of these ducks, you will be instructed where to call.

ROB: Outlive your livestock? The donkeys may make 27 years, how old are you now?
DER JOHN: Very sorry to hear about the illness of your friend, so sudden to get that kind of news. It seems to be hitting people more often it seems. So I hear that Kris is a little upset with you!! Tsk, tsk......you must be more careful where you dump the wheelbarrow and what is in it. How is the concrete wall on the layout coming along ?

Lee......... The Mantua 2-6-6-2 is now put away in its box. When I ran it yesterday, it hauled a 17 car train on level track. It came to a halt hauling the train on my 3% grade. Then, I uncoupled 9 cars leaving 8 cars in the train, and it went up the grade OK. Burlington operated short trains with these engines, and that's fine with me. As for Rivarossi. I replaced the motor on my B&O 2-10-2 about five years ago with one I purchased in Cincinnati from Golf Manor Hobbies. It works fine with the new motor.

Good morning.
Lee ...the track was an accumaltion of cheap trainset sectional track......both brass and steel rails. There was quite a bit including switches and a 90 degrees crossing. ...Power pack was an old MRC dual loco pack for N scale, but the HO locos ran OK with it. Freight train was about ten "train set " freght cars mostly Tyco. Loco for the freight train was Tyco 2-8-0 w/ cheap tender drive that I repaired. Passenger train was four Athearn streamliner cars that I repainted and lettered for Santa Fe. Loco for it was a bachmann cheapo Sanat Fe F7. It's a good starter set, and if they become more interested in teh hobby, they can upgrade in later years.
Tom and JimCG .... The 2-6-6-2 pulls very well new, out of the box.
I am starting a project. I'm concerting a Walthers Budd baggage/dorm car into a Burlington baggage/lounge car. PC posted pictures of one of those as it exists today in Indiana.
Happy Model Railroading!
in a SANTA FE mug, please & thanks.
Goldrush, Art and Bucky have all been gelded. Wife is keeping an eye on them for somplications and will continue to do so all day. Our vet is one of the best and does a very fine job.
Heating & Air decisions: The fella who was out to look at the build said our current unit is not sufficient to handle the extra square footage & suggested an additional unit. If it wasn't for all the windows of the sitting area, I wouldn't even consider the extra expense. But I tend to think he's probably correct. One added benefit would be the train room would also be hooked up. Wife likes that idea very much, even though (like my workshop) it will be insulated enough to not require any. We'll get prices on all the options and go from there.
Well, still need to go do all the regular critter rounds. Have a good day all. Rob
Good Morning, Zoe, Lee, Jeff W., Packer - I see Bill T. was by, saw him heading out as I drove up. Zoe, I'll have waffles with some maple syrup
and a cup of coffee. And, of course, a glass of Ed's OJ (concentrate's okay, if the new load of tankers hasn't arrived yet).
My congratulations to the Cowboys fans (and my condolences to the Green Bay fans).
Rob, I certainly hope you reach that goal of yours (about the four-legged critters you have there). And by more than one day...
Tom, sometimes - much like one of my daughter's books says - 'Simple things are best' (Now, if you can just convince your Dr. of that). So you have your own personal brow-washer, huh? Are ya sure Lowell's not trying to wake you up for another helping of the Gerber's, sort of 'Get me a midnight snack, Daddy'?
Mark, on the shoes, that'll work on the Nikes, until you have a job where they don't let you wear tennies...
Garry, way to go on your new loco addition for the layout. You almost tempt me to figure if I can cover an order for one of those.
Packer, what a bummer - you got a good night's sleep and now you're off work but don't have the parts to get those locos finished up. I think that whole bag of jerky by itself could upset a person's stomach - pace yourself, man!
DerJohn, good to hear things are progressing on your concrete pad. I don't recall on our old club layout if the intermodal yard concrete was painted multiple times or just one heavy coat. I do recall that the laying of the 'mudding' for it took about three coats to get all smoothed out.
I'll be in the corner booth with my waffles for a bit.
Blessings,
Jim in Cape Girardeau
Morning ya'll.
It is 70 degrees out, no wind and an overcast sky.
I'm sitting at home because the GM at work read me the wrong schedule. He gave me last week's where I worked 6 am to 5 pm, turns out I'm off today.
I'm still waiting on my decoders from 4-nscale.org, it's been almost 3 weeks. I e-mailed them a week ago, and they said it was on back-order and was on the way. Should be here any day, hopefully.
As for any plans for trains today, there aren't any. On all 4 of my projects (Kato C425s, Athearn Rotary plow, Athearn GP35, and P2K SD9) I'm waiting on parts, funds, and to go to the local MR club for decoders and weights.
The status on projects:
Kato C425s: Needs decoders, and I'm opting to just swap the bulb with an LED for a while. Will be left in original paint until I can get decals and my dad's work gets the media blaster
Athearn Plow: Needs a decoder and some weight. When it starts it rocks the whole thing side to side. The decoder will control the blades and lights (whenever I figure out where to put lights)
Athearn GP35: Motor needs to be secured to the frame, and needs drivelines*.
P2k SD9: Needs a motor, and a new decoder. When the motor went bad*, it took the decoder with it. Luckily it's an NCE, so I can send it back with 10 bucks and get a replacement.
* parts acquired

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....
2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.
Good morning all,
Just before noon EST today it will be officially FALL!
I'm thinking about a road trip to Dayton, OH in November for their train show. They hold it in the sports arena. 4 hour drive one way.
Der, sorry to hear about your friends and their family. My GF lost her father in a similar manner. One day he didn't feel good and went to the hospital, 4 days latter he passed away.
Well the dockside work won't happen until after the holidays, but I've been watching Der's and Jeff's work with earnest to see what and how they do their magic. It will be a big lift but I think I can pull it off.
Rob, speaking of hauls...looks like a great Circus you started. The train show a vendor had anything and everything you would have wanted for the circus. Big top, carnival rides and RR rolling stock. It was very impressive (very expensive too). I saw a big top and auxiliary tents for sale on the bay, but I bet if you came up with dimensions Dorothy could sew you up a decent big top. Humm sounds like a project....
Garry, what type of track & power supply did you give the church family?
Tom, Sounds like kitty is doing well, Susan called last night (a friend whose cat is having kidney failure) is having trouble getting her cat to eat anything. I told her about the Gerbers but haven't tried it yet.
Dale called me on my way home from Toledo train show and wanted to know if I bought anything that needs assembled. I assured him I had 5 kits in a box for him to work on.
I took the roof and windows out of the lumber yard last night. The original owner didn't paint anything when s/he assembled the building. I gave the roof a fresh coat of flat black and the sides got 2 coats of white last night. I have yet to go through my picture archive of grain elevators and find a suitable example to paint my Heljan model.
Good Morning from Tipton IN !

It's time to lock up Bucky (mini stud horse), Goldrush (Paint stallion) and Art (mini donkey jack) for the night. It's their pre-op, no food, only water treatment before morning surgeries. Poor fellas, but at least before too long they will be able to go play with their lady folk and we won't have to worry about any pregnancies. No more baby animals on Cederstrand Farm. No more new anything, especially llamas. Already have a couple mini donkeys. My goal is to outlive our last four-legged family member by at least 1 day. Not sure I'll make it, but that's my goal anyway.
Have a good night all. Rob
Woohoo!
Tom: Hmm, maybe I should go to denmark when I'm 21...
Evening all--
82 here in SunnyCal today, and the FIRST day in I don't know how many weeks that my lower GI tract is actually acting like it's happy with me. Nothing like taking two pills twice a day as opposed to hitching myself up to one of those 'sel-serve' IV's with God Knows What in the little bags. Now, if my doctor tomorrow will just agree with me----
Lowell's doing well, scarfing up Gerbers like there's no tomorrow. Sleeps on my pillow and gives my eyebrows a bath about twice a night. He's holding, and as far as I'm concerned, it means that God and St. Francis don't need him up there chasing mice in Heaven, just yet (wouldn't work, anyway. We're not talking major HUNTER, here, LOL--unless you're a bug).
Jeff: Love the wreck. Get rid of the trucks, though, they'd have fallen off the minute that big fellow went over on his side. I can't believe that you did that all with SUNSHINE!
Mark: I wouldn't worry about size 14 feet. There's a brewery in Copenhagen, Denmark that serves you a stein of their excellent beer in relation to your foot size. You'd have a BALL! I was there several years ago with a buddy of mine--I'm a 10, he's a 13. I had to do a little 'catching up' with him, LOL.
Garry: I've been looking at those Mantua 2-6-6-2's, myself. The tenderless one. Looks exactly like a little 2-6-6-2 that used to run up in my neck of the woods on the Clover Valley Lumber Company. And I hear that the new run has a terrific motor and drive train and lots of little add-on goodies that are seperate castings. Yours should look good with a Burlington logo on your tender. Heck, what locomotive DOESN'T look good with a Burlington logo on its tender, LOL! Neat movies, BTW, I'm going to catch them all in more detail tomorrow. I was kinda surprised to find out that my camera has that feature, also. Now you've got me going!
Well, I see we got 'raided' again tonight with a whole bunch of posts from you know who, but the Mods cleaned it up pretty well. Gee, whatever happened to "If you can't say something positive--"
Well, got to call it in. Lowell's looking at me wondering where his Gerber's is, and Spooky is chewing on my shoe-heel wondering where her Chicken of the Sea has hidden itself.
Best to all, prayers to those in need.
Oh wow, looks like late-night refreshments are on me.

Hello everybody.........
It's RBF time.
If your interested, I posted movies from the digital camera in WPF last night.
The two boys are really happy with the trains. Their Dad told me in church this morning that he is helping them mount the track on plywood. This is a young family struggling to make ends meet the good old fashioned way......hard work. Nice family.
My railroad has a new addition. I purchased one of those Mantua 2-6-6-2's with a tender. It will be my "close enough" model of some locomotives purchased by the CB&Q about 100 years ago. Those locomotives served the Deadwood Branch until about 1950. The Deadwood Branch served the Black Hills region of South Dakota. It had many curves and several grades of 3%. Both freight and passenger trains were hauled by these 2-6-6-2's.
MicroMark has the 2-6-6-2's on sale for $97.00. I needed a tool from them, and well, as long as I was ordering...................
We're still negotiated with a few people to get a deal to sell the RV trailer. The guy with the old Porsche is still talking with us. I would not bet on it yet.
Prayers for all in need.
Happy Model Railroading
Well, Mr. Mayonnaise has ruined our forums again, and I'm sorry for the recent attack on Jeff. Kudos to the quick reponse of the Mods. I just wish I saw the dates earlier.
I'm gonna avoid the sports discussion
EDIT: and share this A thread of mine from the bachmann site: entitled So, I didn't put a smoke unit in the tender...
But yet, the DCCboard in the tender did a wonderful rendition of the cylinder cocks being open. I dunno what happened, Dad and I installed a Soundtraxx decoder, an 8-pin plug n play using the socket on my 4-8-2 C&O George Washignton. I couldbn't get it to work, we put it omn the test track at the club, track was god to every other loco, but now I have a partially melted Diode, and a steamer that reeks. Yes, I'll call Customer Service tomorrow, but in the meantime, I'm open to theories as to what happened. Also, am I guarenteed that I'll get a GW Mountain back? Cause I don't want a standard C&O pulling a crack train like this one.
-Morgan
Hello all.
Halftime, and...
THE PACK IS LOSING
THE PACK IS LOSINGTHE PACK IS LOSING
THE BOYS ARE WINNING!
Well anyways...
Jim: Well, not really... I like Nike. And they make sizes up to 22. And, at Ross, saw 5 pairs of 14s, 3 pairs of 15s, 2 pairs of 16s, 4 pairs of 17 and 17.5, 1 pair of 18s, and one pair of 21s. I think I'm okay. Oh, and to make things fun, I'm only 5'7'' at this time...
GO DALLAS!
A quick drop by before heading off to bed. Despite saying I wouldn't work outside today, I ended up taking a wheel barrow of assorted plants (flowers) that have overgrown in the main flower bed down to the area at the start of our boardwalk to the canoe launch. We won't go too far into why I was in the doghouse for dumping same on compost heap first..... Kris wants to see if they will fill in down there where it's quite wet.
The good news is I've just finished the first coat of the new concrete paint on the container dock. Looks more convincing, at any rate I think so. Photos when I've done the top coat and cleaned off the railheads.
The bad news is I had a phone call this evening from a model railroader in Spruce Grove, Alberta. Seems the chap who hosted "The Derails" meetings there has stomach cancer, and is under palliative care in his home; and not expected to have more than a few weeks. His name is Al (Big Al, the railroader's pal!). Needless to say, this came as a shock. Al's wife is Mildred, BTW. Don't remember meeting his grown children, but they are all very much in touch now, as you may imagine.
Rob: That circus looks impressive already.
she is more into the wagons and such that the train cars.
CapeJim: No, my foot just went through to the ground, which wasn't very far down seeing as the woodshed is set on railroad ties (what else!?). I guess the edges of the hole were sufficiently far from my leg as to not cause any trouble, so no.
Paint's all dried now, and it will definitely need a second coat, especially at the front where I was watering it a bit for better flow in tighter spaces. Goodnight all, and God Bless. Prayers for all in need of healing, comfort and peace.
"There are always alternatives, Captain" - Spock.
Evening, Janie - I'll have a cup of hot cocoa, please.
Thanks!
Tom, that's one heckuva way to be sure the staph infection is all out! Glad to hear you and the lovely IV tube will be going your separate ways come tomorrow. And good to hear you're making progress on your cars. - at least one of us is...
Jeff, on that F.P. Jones one, my friend's daughter probably would've known that - and she's only 14 or 15! She got into the Archie comics somewhere back up the road, and her mother has to watch out when they go by a yard sale for any Archie comics to add to the collection. Is that 35 a Spectrum, or was Bachmann doing more detail back then than now? Nice job on the 'wrecked' hopper, maybe you need some grain trying to sprout from when the hopper went over? That looks like it went over a couple of hours ago. And has your insurance guy been contacted, or will this one jack your RR's rates up too high?
Rob, hope your fence relocation and repairs goes smoothly for the rest of it. Are you going to be getting llamas, or donkeys for your coyotes problem? Sure sounds like you're spoiling your wife on her layout, huh? Good 'investment' for your layout later... I'm beginning to wonder, after seeing all her stuff - will your wife's layout take up the whole room? Might need to add to the house plan again.
Yesterday at H-L, I picked up a couple of W-S figures (one of which was a duplicated one; GOT to start making sure my list I take with me is accurate and up-to-date!). Got the Lawn Workers (#2 set) and the Goodbye People. I was counting last night, and with those, the total people in just W-S sets that I have is over 130 people. Then there're the Preiser ones... I should have enough people for trackside at my towns and cities for a while, huh? Oh the Bowser covered hopper I got (the Frisco one) is an open side (vs. their closed side) one, and I've built a couple or three of those so far. Shouldn't be too hard to assemble it.
DerJohn, hope you don't have any more 'remodeling' jobs to do this fall. Glad you didn't hurt yourself when it gave out (you didn't, did ya?). On that football field, I don't think a running game would work well for there.
Lee, I'd have to groan along with Garry - it does look like your dockside business is picking up so much that one would have to 'crane' his neck to see it all...
Garry, that's the way - 'corrupt' those kids with MRR'ing while they're young and impressionable.
PC - that sounds like one definite motivation for that roof, all right! And it was Murphy's Law that it'd stop raining once the tarpaper was put down, too. Bet your pastor said an 'Amen' after that was all done!
Mark, you'd be really tall, if you didn't have so much of you turned under. Heck, I'm 6'3" and only wear size 12's. Of course, my brother is 6'5" and wears size 15's... Better get used to custom shoe places, at this rate!
I think PC has it about right - we have almost the entire Diner contingent on the ailing-and-in-need-of-prayers list lately (except maybe for me and the young'uns). Guess we older ones need to be sure to eat right and take our vitamins, right?
Blessings and prayers for all,
Good evening gents, another beauty of a Fall day here, 68F (20C), no wind, clear sky, and low humidity. I hope everybody had a great Sunday with family or friends.
CN CHARLIE: That was indeed good news on your boat, far less $$ too!! We also are enjoying the best weather this entire season. I am worried that this is the calm before the storm..LOL Trees have started to change color here also, mostly the Maples that are under some stress. ( I wonder if we change color if we get under stress ??)
FERGIE: Welcome home, you ship will be docking just as Fall officially begins...NICE! How long are you due to be home this time?
ED/JP: Red Sox clinched Wild Card spot, but are also only 1.5 games out of 1st place with Tampa losing today. Only 7 games remaining, 4 with Cleveland and 3 with the dreaded Yankees. And Tampa, in first place in the East, only has a $40M player payroll, compared with over $100M for the Yankees, which must have the Yankee management really
JEFF: You really need to go into business, you could make some serious $$, do it big guy !!!
Bon Soir mais amis,
Hey mark:
...
the only person i'kll be remotly glad to see have a good game for the Cowboys is T.O., because he's on my fantasy team, lol.
At my dad's, just waiting on the Dallas/Greenbay kickoff... bout 30 minutes from now, I think.
Haven't done much on the layout, but I'm eyeing a BLI blueline light mikado in UP, it looks good. Knowing blueline the sound should be pretty good too.
Today I realized something, I have big feet... Needed new shoes, only found two pairs that fit... I don't think size 14 is that big, but then again, only two pairs fit at the store... Runs in the family I guess.
Well thats it for now. Mark
in a CIRCUS mug, please & thanks!
***Jeffrey, will the MOW crew be working on that derailment/wreck anytime soon?
***Lee, sounds like you made quite a haul at the train show.
There be a circus coming to our farm:
Yea, she "made me" bid on and win this group on the-bay. All that is left on her list is a big top tent and one of those large fancy (expensive) roller coaster rides. I have noticed something, she is more into the wagons and such that the train cars. But that's ok, she still needs the train to transport all those wagons, critters, people, etc.
Rob
Jeff, I'd suggest taking off whatever is still useable (like turcks, coupler, handrails, etc.). Im pretty sure real RRs do that.
Also weather it, looks too shiny to be a wreck

Jeff, now you need some grey N scale ballast to simulate the cement that spilled out, some EMS parked around it and a 250 ton crane to set it up right.
it's amazing what you can do to a RTS track plan with MS paint:
The green=trees, dark gray=roads/parking lots, the teal=buildings, and the dark blue lines=staging limits. The unmarked building is going to be a church, and the black rectangle across from it will an N scale Pillar concert going on, with music supplied from two earbud headphones.
