[ Gav: I just looked at where you are. Man, I haven't been to England since the late 70's. ]
I haven't been to England since the early 90's. Wonderful people, bland food. That is where I met my wife. Rob

Good Evening Coffee Clubbers,
Another beautiful day down here in Paradise. As forecast, it got up around 90º today. I did find one way of staying cool though. I had to do some work with our pressure washer, including a lot of overhead work. So I got pretty well drenched. Kind of reminded me of my younger days and playing in the sprinkler.
The coffee is good and strong tonight. Hope you guys have some brewing (or tea, in the case of Gavin).
Bill T - hey there, two visits in one day? You must be enjoying retirement, or else you're already bored out of your mind.
Fergie - hope you're enjoying St Johns, or the voyage home. My sister (who lives just over in Trinity Bay) said they got 40 cm of snow yesterday and more forecast for tonight and tomorrow. She's tired of all the snow, make that Global Warming, they received this year. But even at that she's not ready to handle 30-35º like we have down here either.
Rob - congrats on your new power packs. Those Tech II's are nice units.
Terry - very nice of you.
PC - that's great news about your son. What a coincidence that the surgeon had the opportunity to see him as the result of an accident just at the right moment. Modern day miracles.
Paul B - I don't envy you removing the blades on the riding tractor mowers. I don't even like removing the small blade on my mower.
That's about it from down here this evening. Catch up with you tomorrow.
Hasta mañana,
Ed

mmmm. maybe not but we sell it here now so don't have to import it besides isn't it a flamable liquid which is banned by the FAA.
Tabasco sauce......No Thanks! Seriously though, my English friends joked more about the food than us visitors did. The good thing is that your desserts didn't give us a drug-like rush as do so many desserts here in the states can. We had a wonderful time and would love to visit a few of the dear friends we made there.
Tested the second TECHII unit. Works superbly, just one burned out pilot lamp which I won't bother with. These units even allow vintage stuff to "crawl" at a snails pace. Had no idea what I was missing in basic DC power. Can't wait to have a real layout to put it to work on. (all you DCC folks are probably laughing, but these are real upgrades for me) I'll wager the wife's DeWitt Clinton train will run much better with one of these as well.
Rob
you can say about the rush thing I had a cup of some blend of coffee whilst I was over your neck of the woods and was buzzing for hrs. ( nearest comparison as don't eat desserts ). good news with the killer power units glad they work for you
another tea please Zoe sorry Cloe. ( my bad)

Been there....not big enough for me tonight!

Oh, I don't think that was coincidence at all......that was a divine appointment!
RT, I appreciate the offer, but I think Pikes Peak (Colorado) is more in order!

To be honest I don't think EVEREST will be high enough for you mate.

Hmmmm, you know what? You might be onto something there!
All,
You know, my wife and I, along with our son, were completely resigned to the fact that he would not walk out of his 20's. At first we were told that he wouldn't ever play sports on a regular team with regular kids (like other then maybe Special Olympics or something......nothing against them at all. Those kids have more courage then most of us put together! ), but he played soccer (thats Football to you Gavin ) last year and Basketball this year (insert proud papa picture here and here) on regular teams (though he wasn't anywhere near the best player on the team), and they kept moving that dreaded date back more and more due to all of the physical training he does to not let this thing beat him down. Now this comes up! Oh man, I don't want to get my hopes up too much!
This doctor has already done the surgery a couple of times, with great success. We'll go to talk more with him next week.
BTW, if you're ever in need of an EXCELLENT hand, knee, or foot surgeon, come to Indianapolis, Indiana and go to the Indy Ortho hospital. Look up Dr. Carlos Barrios. You simply will not find a better surgeon ANYWHERE in his field! He has been awesome with my wife's surgeries and he is very caring and compassionate. Do you know that when he saw my son walking today he grabbed another doctor and asked him to cover his next couple of appointments so that he could just talk with us? And we weren't even really there for my son. We were there for my wife. That man dropped everything for us and I noticed that when we left it was after office hours (They were closing up a lot of the offices) and he still had at least one more patient that he had to see. He stayed after work on a Friday afternoon just for us. Yeah, he's big time on the Christmas card list.....and I don't send those out except to mom and dad and the inlaws!
Good Evening All,
Sounds like great news for your son PC. Hopefully the surgery will work as promised. Lots of car problems here lately between cables and trannies. The deal with the battery cable sounds a lot like a bad ground Jeff. Lots of times the connections between the battery and the chassis looks good but are corroded underneath. The trans in the F250 is the same as the one we use in the bigger trucks but once they start to slip, they get used up in a hurry as the debris goes throughout the gearbox and chews up everything. The best bet in our case was replacement with a factory rebuilt unit that at least carried some warranty. If you gothat way make sure the transmission cooler in the radiator is also flushed out and a filter placed in the oil lineback to the gearbox to prevent any other stuff getting into the new transmission that's left over from the previous blowup.
We had a good day going today until the screw fell out of the ignition switch stopping the car on the next to last lap while we were in the lead. At least the other two cars finished, one in second. We got the truck loaded and down the road by the end of the day and will get to spend some time tomorrow spectating at the 12 hours before we fly home.
It's been a long day and I need some sleep, I'll try to check in tomorrow. CUL, J.R.
Good Evening All!
I'd like a coffee and one of Ryan's creme brulees please Chloe. Never could resist a creme brulee!
There certainly has been a lot of action in the diner today.
PC, that is great news about your wife and son. The advances in medicine these days is truly amazing.
Ryan, I hope little Paco is doing OK after his surgery. Was it a cruciate ligament? One of our dogs had to have that surgery a couple of years ago. It took a while for him to completely recover as the leg was slightly shorter afterwards before the new ligament stretched but now you can't tell there was a problem. Not inexpensive though. Our vet drives a new BMW so perhaps I'm in the wrong profession.
Fergie, I saw some video on TV today about that storm in St. John's. It looked nasty. How many knots will the Hudson do? About 30 would seem good with that new storm coming.
Jeff, another great video. You did a nice job painting that 2-10-2. They do run nicely don't they. It always amazes me that they can go around an 18" radius with no problems.
Not much to report on here. We just got back from a showing at a small art gallery here. My wife's friend is in with her partner from Ottawa whose work was being exhibited. Very interesting stuff done with photography and a lot of work on PhotoShop.
I had reported a couple of days ago that it was melting here but it is back down to -8C now with a high of the same tomorrow. Oh well, at least the car won't get dirty.
Tomorrow is LHS day for me. The CP caboose from TrueLine Trains I ordered has come in so I'll have something to put behind my RS3. It's pulling a couple of heavyweights right now but I think it would be happier with freight.
I think Chloe wants to close up now so I'll sign off.
CN Charlie
Being serious now I'm pleased as punch for you and your family
Hello ...
PC ..... Certainly good news, and I'm certain your remarkable faith played a big role.
Gav ... Our last trip over there was in 2003. I got to the British Railway Museum in York which was incredible. The replica of Richard Trevithick's Penneydarin locomotive was being rebuilt to be used the following year to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the original locomotive. One of the museum employees was kind enough to take me into the shop so I could see the work in progress. The museum is certainly a real jewel in my opinion. One of the other highlights to me was to see the Mallard, the fastest steam locomotive in history.
CN Charlie ... enjoy the new caboose that just came in.
RT - packing the trains sounds difficult. best wishes to you!
JR - Interesting update at Sebring. Ignition switch, etc.
Happy Model Railroading

That would be incredible! Heck, just his giving my wife another decade or two of mobility was more then we could have hoped for......and now this!
YES GARRY IT CERTAILY IS A NATIONAL TREASURE IT EVEN HAS THE POWER TO EARMARK LOCOMOTIVES FOR THE COLLECTION OFF OF THE PRIVATE COMPANIES. i DON'T THINK IT WAS OPEN THEN BUT THEY NOW HAVE ANOTHER BASE AT SHILDON TO STORE AND DISPLAY MORE OF THE STUFF
Any of you fellow weather nuts catching the damage in Atlanta tonight? Glad those cells were not up here in North GA..
What's going down?
Gav, I expect there will be more coverage of it tomorrow during daylight. Sounds like a tornado (or some very serious wind) came through and raised havoc with many buildings. Streets are a mess with glass and stuff. Top floor of at least one building is gone. It's all the local news chanels are showing now. Sure hope it didn't touch the big Aquarium down there. More storms following the same path, but not likely to be so severe. Mother Nature sure can whoop it up when she wants to.
Dang...Top of page twice in one day. Looks like I'll be doing a lot of dishes. Oh well.
There will be plenty of FRESH coffee, ALL NIGHT LONG, for those interested.
Rob .. I saw the heaadline about Atlanta storms, and it's good you are okay.
Gav ... I recall the train ride to York from London was impressive, also. That train "flew low to the ground." I don't recall the distance or the time anymore, but the average speed was certainly fast.
G'nite...
Garry
yep those things can shift. about 100mph top speed so average about 80mph class 86/87 electric or could have been a class 91or hst class 43 (125mph )
I saw it on bbc news site bad news r u ok?
Gav, we live up in the northwest corner of the state on a farm, snuggled in a valley. Atlanta is well over an hours drive south via the Interstate from here. Tis' a long ways away.
It does look like we may have some severe storms come through our neck of the woods tomorrow. We shall see. I never worry about it. As long as none of our animals get injured, that is all I care about.
Finally getting sleepy. Good night all. Rob
hope you'll get missed by the storms
cheque please Zoe. See you all tonight.
