Good Morning All,

A regular to go please. Lots to do with the trailer needing loading and the final cleanup of the shop for tomorrows VSCCA event. No MRR time last night as I watched a little of A Star Trek movie and hit the sack. Much colder this morning so I wonder exactly what kind of weather will show up tomorrow.  Well, lots to do so i'd better get with it.   CUL, J.R.

#128? I think I'm something like that also. Just means you talk too much.

Anyways, it's a nice morning in seattle. According to BLI and FDT's original asessments, the big boy should be in in 25-32 days. Now FDT is saying next week. I like this prospect, a couple weeks before spring break. Yeah!! [yeah]

Alright, I'll see you guys later.

Good Morning, Diners! Zoe, I'll have some of the breakfast buffet, cup of coffee, and a glass of Ed's OJ, please. Thanks, Jeff!

Gav, I'd say that poor behavior is poor behavior. As others have indicated, if I'd tried that when I was young, I wouldn't have been able to stand up for a few meals... Especially throwing 12 bottles.Shock [:O] I think the term used to be hooligans, correct? Hopefully, the kids will have some adequate (financial/legal/other) consequences so they think twice before doing it again. My My 2 cents [2c].

Johnboy, that item is another reason I'm not a collector. That looked nice and all that, but not $1800+ worth. Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg] For that much, I could have my layout expanded to room size and mostly completed! I sometimes have bid on some of the old Revell model railroad structures on eBay, and you can tell when a collector (instead of someone who'll actually use the kit on their layout) is bidding on an item. I just sit out those auctions. I have a co-worker who is collecting action toys (the bigger ones - Batman, Robin, etc. doll-type, about a foot or so tall) and gets two of them - one for the kid to play with and one for the 'investment'. Better quit before I start my rant about collecting... (Oops [oops] Guess it's a bit late for that...)

RT, that'd definitely be a good job to land. Best wishes on that! You got me curious, and it looks like I'm a few behind you at 64th. Does that mean I'm half the blabbermouth that you are, or double? Wink [;)]

Well, we got some snow overnight (maybe an inch), and still getting some now (a bit slushy, though). Streets aren't too bad (no ice definitely helps!), but when I got in, my 9:00 already had called and cancelled. I figure if I have half my folks show up today, that'll be amazing. Went by the laundromat and dropped off the laundry to have them do it today while I'm at work (ouch! $19 for three loads?). Boy, do I wish our apartment building had laundry facilities in it. I could've done my laundry in the evenings this week and saved all that. Even when I can get to the laundry and do my own, it only costs about $7 to do (not counting the soap). Ah, well...

Got to get a money order and get the car payment off today. Checked the finance company's website, but all their ways to pay online involve extra charges for the 'convenience'.

Okay, enough bellyaching. Sometimes it seems I get in a rut on that. My apologies.

Rob, is your wife coughing up and getting rid of the crud? Hopefully so, and it'll get out of her systems quickly. Angel [angel]Angel [angel]Angel [angel]

Anyone see the thread in the forums on Pelle Soeburg (sp?) and on his article in the April MR issue? Don't know if anyone else had noticed, but the Woodland Scenics catalogs in the past few years had pics from his current (and I think one earlier) layout in them. Love his scenery work (and Dave V.'s and Dave Frary's and several others) - motivates me on working on mine. Yeah!! [yeah]

Back to breakfast for me! Drive safely out there, especially those of you under this storm as it moves east.

Blessings and prayers,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Hello everybody....

Rob said ........."5:00am Wife's coughing woke me up. " ... I'm sorry to hear about that.  it takes a long time for pnuemonia to go away.  I would encourage you to make sure her doctor is kept current about her symptoms.

Regarding Gav's "rant" about the trouble-makers. First of all, it reminds me to be thankful for the non-trouble-makers.  In particular, I think of the fine young people who regularly post in this forum. Hat's off and thimbs up to those fine young people. As for trouble-makers, it really bothers me that they are wasting our hard-earned tax dollars by goofing-off in school. I question the wisdom of increasing school funding if there are so many goof-offs, trouble makers, durg addicts, etc ......... who disrupt class rooms, do not complete assignments, and eventually drop out of school. To me, it makes sense to expell the bad ones, and focus the tax dollars on kids willing to learn. SoapBox [soapbox]

RT .... best wishes to you regarding job applications.

Happy Model Railroading

Morning fellers!

WEATHER BULLETIN: The Piedmont gets some rain again, twice in one week! Actual puddles have been spotted in flat grassy areas, these sightings have been rare the past year or so.

Chloe, I'll have a bowl of Whole Grain Cheerios with some fresh blueberries. Thanks Jeff!

Der John your layout continues to take shape nicely, the interchange area is really a focal point!

RT congratulations on the recommendation for the Food Service position with the VA. Do you see another move in your future? Seems like you just unpacked from your last move a few months ago!

Dick thanks for your concern for Ben and for the heads up on the flu, I stayed at home yesterday with him and so far he is much better, fever is gone, but still feels bad. Thanks! BTW, sounds like they used some really good adhesive or mortar on those bathroom tiles eh! I remember when we had a bathroom redone and all the sheetrock and hardi-board had to go for the same reason, just too messy to try and save.

Jim thanks for your concern for Ben, he is better now, and as a matter of fact he had some Chicken and Rice soup yesterday. No fever today, but still is wiped out and with sore throat too.

Johnboy man I wish I still had all my Hot Wheels cars from the 1970's...thanks for the eBay link.

Gav no apology necessary, delinquent activity should not be tolerated at any age.

Rob you might want to cut out the caffeine after 12 noon, which might help you sleep at night too!

I see that Bill has posted a new breakfast menu, thanks Bill!

I sneaked a little modeling time on the layout yesterday while I was "Mr. Mom" and started some work on the backdrop so here are a few progress shots for you:

Ryan ...

I, too, wish a speedy recovery for Ben .......glad to see the beef on the menu.....

Regarding backdrops, a lot of my backdrops have one wall of a building just like you have in your pictures. I also have pictures of buildings and other landscape items cut from magazines, calndars, etc... Now I'm working on the layout to the  right of the photos of the rock strata scene. You can see some of the pictures glued onto the backdrop. I like the faller backdrop sky, and so I start with Faller backdrops that are sometimes on sale in the Walther mail order flyer.

Hey all!

I'm back from taking the wife to her post-op doctors appointment.  Doc says it all looks good.  Thats a good thing!  Got more meds too!

Supposed to get a big snow storm here over the next 24hrs.  It's already started up out there.  We'll probably see 3-4 inches, but in areas southeast of us they're looking at more like 8-10 inches.  Still got a lot of wind though.

Gonna try and get massive amounts of homework done this weekend, and also throw in so layout time if I can!  We'll see!

Later!

Good afternoon to everyone except Jeff,

Well I know I've given some of you a hard time about sending bad weather to Ohio, but JEFF takes the cake! We are getting a snow storm, originating from Louisiana all the way up here in Cleveland! I'm guessing this will be something special since the weather channel has reporters and a camera crew set up at the CG base.

Just kidding Jeff, maybe if you head a little north you can go sledding or something.

Hoople, still waiting for those Big Boy pictures!

Ryan, the roundhouse roof looks really good, and I like your progress on the back drops.

refill, please & thanks. Perhaps I'll make this my last cup of the day.

Cut the plywood top for the train table. Then glued & screwed it to the heavy duty 2x4 framework. Somehow I managed to create a slight warp to it when finished. Haven't the desire to try pulling it all apart & redoing it, so will let it ride. I look at it this way, I am going to create variances in track elevations anyway, so if the landscape is slightly off to begin with, this only gives me a head start, right? (somehow I expect to be lectured on thisWhistling [:-^])

Question [?]: What is the best glue for attaching sheet foam to plywood?

Rob ..... use construction adhesive such as liquid nails. I use the hardware store's off brand becasue it's cheaper and still works. Use the kind that is applied with a calk gun.

Evening all -

  Hope everyone is fine.

RT - Congrats on the referral letter!

Moving on, I've got to get a photo or more uploaded to one of my photo sites so I can share them with you all. I had the day off today. Had some errands and a few appointments to run (truck inspection - passed and it was free even) (vet for the cat - he's on a small diet now), etc. Started raining here about 90 minutes ago. 35 minutes ago, it was rain/snow mix. Now, snow from what I can tell. We're under a Winter Storm Warning till 8am Sunday - 3-5 tonight, 2-4 tomrrow, not sure about tomorrow night, yet.

Well, need to get going. Laundry is almost done and need to get ready to cook dinner for the g/f.

Take care!

Hi all!

ROB: I use PL300 by OSI. It's for foam and costs about the same as what Garry suggested.Found it in my local, well for me it's local, Menards.I use it  in my profession also,to apply foam board to concrete walls when I finish basements. Not sure about Liquid Nails, but some adhesives attack the foam.Whatever you use, make sure it's a  product for use with foam. BTW, some people just use latex caulk. That also works just fine.

RT: fingers are crossed on the job recc.

Good afternoon.

I went to Alexandria this morning tio keep my angiogram appointment, arriving an hour ahead of schedule. Got my eyes examined real good and the doc shot a bunch of laser beams into them. Came back to Leesville and stopped in at the Sheltered Workshop to see about a call I got from them yesterday and worked there the rest of the day. I only got home a little while ago. I won't be on much today because I can't see very well. My vision should be clearer tomorrow.

Before it's too late...Question [?]...I just did a quick search and found the following for under $40.

[Masonite/"brand name" 36 x 80 x 1-3/8 In. Flush Hardwood Hollow Core Bored Slab]

Should I bag the HEAVY table I have made and go with an actual door as listed above? I can always attach some heavy legs to what I already have and turn into another work-bench for the dungeon. I keep thinking of the weight factor if I should ever need to move the layout in the future. So, do I just buy a real door and add attach the foam to that? (I think the perfectionist in me is causing me to re-think things)

Thanks for your thoughts and suggestions.

Evening Gang: I am going to see Tony tomorrow. His mother called and said that he was asking about me and when I was coming. She said that he isn't doing well.

John is doing allright. We went in to see him and his wife and the baby were there so we got a baby fix at the same time. He maybe coming home in a couple of days.

Not much else going on. We went into get some perscriptions filled. Mary Ann got 4 and I got one, total $715. Hers were for a 90 day supply each so figuring that in it wasn't as bad as it seems. Well I'm going to head for bed.

Lee I guess they have started ice breaking work on the lakes. It won't be long untill you will be visiting aboard those ships.

Another Spring day out here in SunnyCAL--and for those of you in other parts of the country still suffering Winter, my best wishes and sincere hopes that the weather is not doing too much damage.  Unfortunately, I cannot wish that you send some of it out HERE, because everything we get comes in from the other direction--Pacific Ocean.

Not a good day--one of our English teachers at school suffered the loss of his daughter yesterday due to a completely freak accident.  Seems she and about seven other Astronomy students at her local Junior College were up at Auburn, in the foothills, working on a night-time project on the Foresthill Bridge, which is a very tall (700') structure spanning the North Fork of the American River.  There was a terrible and unavoidable accident involving a car and she was killed instantly.  We had a Memorial Mass for her at the school this morning, and since she was well known to a lot of our students (and her father is a very popular teacher) the atmosphere was not the best.  I knew her, she was a very personable, intelligent and delightful girl, and her loss is really felt deeply around here.  The bridge is a very popular spot for 'star-gazing' because of its particular location and elevation, and this is the first such accident that has ever been recorded there in the 20 or so years since it was built.  And no, the driver was not drunk or on drugs or speeding.  It was just one of those completely un-avoidable things that no one ever thought would happen.   There is no fault, no blame.  It just happened.

Makes you think.

Anyway, wishing the rest of you the best.

Tom
