Good morning all,
We had a big thaw yesterday afternoon with rain, then a big freeze this morning. Dorothy just called and said the on/off ramps look like parking lots but all the cars are facing the wrong way.

Good Saturday Morning, Diners! Janie, I'll have some of Ed's fine OJ,
a glass of milk
and a bowl of Cheerios,
some scrambled eggs, a few strips of bacon, and toast
and a cup of the TH coffee in an ETD-III mug, please.
to the Diner, New Haven I-5 (Luke)! Tell us a bit about your layout and/or yourself - what scale, are you modeling a particular RR (or freelancing it, like some of us), time period, and part of the country the RR's located in, etc. We're a friendly (and nosy) bunch in here, and the topics - as you no doubt have seen - are sometimes even about MRR'ing! Have a beverage of your choice on me, and if you want it in a specific mug (RR line, Elliott's Trackside Diner III one or others), just ask our servers. They got the new Diner mugs soon after we moved to the new place here, and there're more in the cupboard. Oh, on the menu, Ryan's been posting the lunch and dinner menus most days, and Bill T. usually posts the breakfast menu, and frequently helps the ladies with setting up the breakfast buffet.
Rob, good to hear your wife's on the mend and feeling better. That always beats the yucky feeling, anyday!
Ryan, I hope you had someone driving you for those errands after your dentist visit. For some of my friends who've had that kind of work, the anesthetic left 'em kind of woozy afterwards. Glad you have that over for now, though.
PC, when you were describing the choice for your wife to stay in the hospital one more night vs. sleep in her own bed, I was thinking, "That's not a difficult choice!" and figured she'd pick heading home. I know that would be my choice! Great that she's on the way to healing up, and hope she will be up and at 'em soon enough.
Paul, I imagine it will feel much better to be there at your former w**kplace and NOT have to be concerned with what's working completely right or not. Have fun!
Mitch, I'll add to my prayer list, a quick hiring decision for Dawn (so she can get going with learning her new job). I can understand about your being tired of winter weather - heard several people at w**k on Thursday talking about that very thing. Luckily for us, it warmed up to the low 60's (F) on Friday, and I think today's supposed to be upper 50's (F) then 60's on Sunday. Hopefully you'll get some of that soon! Of course, the weather folks have to torment us - they're saying wet stuff (maybe the fluffy white kind) and some cooler around Monday-Tuesday... Hang in there, spring is indeed coming. Good to hear your Mom's home - next, to get your weather shifted into spring gear...
Jeff, that light switch setup sounds interesting. But what about when you want to go to sleep? You may need a master switch that kills all the lights, for the end of your days.
Well, I need to be getting ready to go do the laundry thing, since it's Saturday morning. Everybody got some MRR'ing planned for your weekend? Hope so!
Blessings and Prayers,

Good Morning All,
Got back to the shop yesterday got the truck unloaded and the parts stowed and returned the truck to Penske before the snow. Got 3-5" overnight of heavy wet snow and it's in the 40's this morning and melting away.
Diesel was in the 3.80 + range on the trip with the high in Pennsylvania at 3.96 per. Still way below much of the rest of the world. I think Gavin and our friends NTB are paying by the Litre or has it gone to "by the eyedropper full" ? The diesel box truck went ok governed at 71mph, but the bench seat and rough ride just about killed my poor old back. My dually truck rides much better and of course the Kenworth has an air seat and air ride cab.
Spent a couple of hours last night at home cleaning the model bench and layout so i can see which direction to go next. It may be time to finalize the few streets and sidewalks that I need before filling in the rest of the city block and sidings I need. Looking over the Marlboro Stone cutting shop area, I think the plaster crossing and filled track area is the way to go with the crossings on the downtown industrial areas as well. I just don't like the wood and the foam I've tried so far.
Jeff - I like the lighting idea, let us know how it works out. I also have a use for cat hair - I use it to fill the bags on my vacuum cleaner. After having to wall off the train room to keep the cat from ambushing the moving consists, the last thing I need is to mark the layout as it's territory.
Looks like lunch is on me so I'd better get going so I can afford to pay the bill when it arrives. I'll catch up with you all later. J.R.
Afternoon all -
Just a quick stop in for now. Just got back from getting my new contacts and 2 pr of glasses. Also had to stop @ the LHS and pick up the rest of my order that came in earlier this week.
Speaking of my order, 2 of the 3 items on it are now discontinued - Kalmbach's book 6 HO RR you can build (itme # 12131) and the Norscot CAT 966G Forest Machine (item # 55146). Glad I got them before the LHS owner told me NO NO NO!!!!!
Well all - time to get ready to go w/ the g/f to a couple of b'day parties for some of her friends. I'd much rather be spending the day reading my current issues of Trains, MRR and the new Kalmbach book I just got, along with watching some college basketball.
Take care!

Hunter - When we met in January of 2000, you were just a 6 week old pup who walked his way into this heart of mine as the only runt in the litter who would come over to me. And today, I sit here and tell you I am sorry we had to put you down. It was the best thing for you and also the right thing to do. May you now rest in peace and comfort. Love, Dad. 8 June 2010
I love you and miss you Mom. Say hi to everyone up there for me. Rest in peace and comfort. Love, John. 29 March 2017
in a UNION PACIFIC mug, please & thank you!
Welcome to the new folks.
Have a great day and will catch y'all later. Off to make a hay run. Rob
Good Afternoon Gang,
Chloe, when you get a chance, I'll have the Bratwurst and saurerqruaut (spelling) And a Tall glass of Ed's best.
So gald to hear that most of the health problems mentioned here are fading into memories. And the ones that aren't are at least being taken care of and becoming more manageable. May it so remain...... Thank you.......
Well my two short cut cabeese are now repaired, no longer mint, but certainly serviceable. Then spent some time on servicing a number of power units (locos). Also cut out more foam core to mount my backgrounds on. So other than running a couple of trains for a few minutes, I have not spent much with the layout. This must change.
Back at work for the week-end (sat-sun-mon) This is the "Victorian Tea" week-end, where the ladies of the Historical Society have a fund raiser once a month. So starting within the hour, it will get pretty busy for the afternoon.
Not much else today, so I won't just blabber on.
Can you believe it ? In nine days we have eighteen pages here already. Boy we are a talkative group.
Hope you all have a great week-end and stay safe.
By the way JR. I don't believe you told us how the race went. I would like to know.
And Fergie, How was the skiing?? and when do you put out to sea again??
Johnboy out......................
Oh, Look, The "Wobbly" is waiting for me.

We have met the enemy, and he is us............ (Pogo)
Morning all.
Nothing much new here, except rain has been falling since yesterday.
to Luke!
I'll see you guys later.
Mark
refill, please & thank you.

Question: Anyone here ever use (N) True-Track and if so, is it OK or junk? Also, what Code is it? Thanks!
Gotta run... Rob
Rob, The N layout at the museum is done with Atlas True Track and it's held up pretty well in most spots. Flex track was used for most of it and there are a coule of spots whee the rail became detached over the 10 years it's been in place. The cure for that was resecuring it with track nails and rubber cement. Mind you with the hours the track sees in use, the wear and tear is probably the equivalent of several decades of home use. I'm not sure what Atlas claims for a code on the track, but I'd say it looks like an N version of it's code 100 HO. Hope that helps,
More posts than normal for me today, have to get off T.O.P. before the big appetites show up this evening, no? J.R.
I've got the automatic rig for turning the layout lights on and off done. Here's a link to a short video showing it in action.

***So Ryan, does this mean your supurb cooking makes up for a lack common sense? BTW, worked many a year at a Y, with everyone from toddlers up to Seniors and helped start the first joint Parks & Rec/YMCA Special Olympics Swim Team in that area. Those were rewarding and fun days, (and gave me access to the pool & weight room anytime, usualy for hours in the middle of the night with my Master Key...shhhhhh!).
***JR, seems like you can get more True Track for the same as either EZTrack or Unitrack. Have a small assortment of both those but have been seeing some pretty reasonable prices on TrueTrack. Next question, can it be joined with either of the others with minor modification?
***Jeffrey, nicely done with the lights. Do you have any sound effects on that layout of your? Can't imagine there is too much more you can add to it?
Weight Loss: Congrats Guys! I've lost about 3lbs in the past couple of months. Some probably stress related, but also have been doing some heavy lifting once every 4 to 5 days. Hopefully my loss is not muscle weight. Haven't been able to do any aerobic work with the sarcoid-thing, as I don't recover from it at all. I'm thrilled to get in what little I do though, as I wasn't even able to do this much for a long time.
I think next week I'll splurge and pick up a large sheet of foam for the table. Sheets looked close to 4'x8' and about 3" think, so once cut down to fit my small table, would still give me some to play around with (and I already have plenty of scrap foam in the dungeon). I've decided the best approach (for me) is going to be setting track out, proping it up where grades will be, until I come up with something that works. Have looked at LOTS of layouts and plans and picked the parts I want to incorporate. When the day comes I have it worked out, I'll post a pic for everyone to tear apart.
Found two places with hay, so grabbed a load of very good quality square bales. All the pasture ornaments are happy with it. Rob

Well I guess I'll have the Hungarian soup and the fruit compote since I'm still at the shop.
Rob, I think you can join anything to anything with the right adaptors and some shimming. The problem will be the amount of shim required to raise the Atlas track to the height of the unitrack and others. Might be easier to pull the unitrack off the bed if it's a problem. J.R.
Evening all,
Diesel here is $3.79
I just looked up N flex track. 29" code 100 flex 100 pack $99.99. Curve able cork roadbed $16.95 for 25 pieces. It beats the LHS price of $2.59 each.

If you guys need to ramp up rail, I recommend door or window shims from home depot.
Thoughts and prayers to those on the sick and injured list.
I made a train implode today. http://youtube.com/watch?v=0KD_rZcWSe4
Rob: Make sure you watch the bloopers on my channel or in the related videos box. It shows my best attempts at a head on collision.
EDIT: MAH BIG BOY IS SHIPPIN FROM CHINALAND! WOOT!
Hey, I'm expecting an order to come in also. My decoders were shipped out yesterday. They should be here Tuesday.
***Mark, those were great. Looked like you succeeded in the big head-on collision among the Bloopers clip. Also enjoyed the leap into the big hole. Too bad that one didn't work with the launch down the hill into the idle train waiting at the bottom. Some odd quirks in that games programming, eh!
Hope everyone is having a nice evening. Going to go work in the dungeon awhile. Rob
