Howdy, everybody,

Black coffee sounds good.  It's way too early, but I'm semi-awake so I might as well try to stay that way.

 GMTRacing wrote:

Good Morning ll,

Another coffee and donut to go day. Maybe Bill would like to trade for a day - just in case you're not fully comfy with this retirement thing yet?  48F  and foggy this morning, feels much warmer and a high in the 50's with rain today and tomorrow supposedly then changing over to snow late Thurs.

Seems we had a record voter turnout yesterday, how about you lot? It'll be interesting to see how this all turns out but I've gotta feel it's going to be good with more people involved and voting.

Yeah, the weather is really wierd.  Here in Sin City it's been way BELOW normal - enough to keep me out of the non-climate-controlled layout room.

We had a record turnout because there's some real difference between the candidates, so people have been supporting their ideologies and prejudices.  What I'm afraid of is that, once ONE candidate (per major party) has emerged victorious all the people who supported the other(s) will sit out the real election.  One extreme-ender has already announced his intention to do so if his party's front runner is nominated.  (That strikes me as equivalent to saying, "If my party's candidate doesn't wear MY choice of racing stripes, I'll just throw the race to the other side."  Dumb!!!)

Down in the Transit forum, some guy posted a thread looking for arguments against a proposed monorail in his home town.  The first blast of answers were all from people who FAVOR monorail!  I wonder, what was he expecting when he posted on a site populated by rabid railfans?  Whatever it was, he didn't get it.

Well, I'm off to the (non-political) races.  See ya.

Man, what a Night! *yawn* Anyone else follow the coverage on super Tuesday? Isn't really odd that the media is paying so much attention ont he primaries this years. in previous primaries, you barely heard anything. this year its... well, see for yourself.

Anywho, I'll have a Choffee (hot coco mxed with coffee) and about six donuts. (they're probably left over from yesterday.) Well, off to the rat race.- business is the worst curse you can ever put on somebody.

Good Morning, Zoe, Ozark Belt, Colby - and I see PC and Bill T. have been through already. I'll have a glass of Ed's OJ,

a cup of coffee and one of Bill's chocolate donuts, please

Thanks, Philnrunt!

Storms have moved through and now it's 43 F (which appears will be the high for the day Confused [%-)]). Hope everyone made it through the night without any significant damage. Now, if we can avoid that kind of night for a long while...

Well, something for all the political pundits this morning - this one got more states, that one got more votes, this one is leading, but that one isn't dropping out, etc., yada, yada, yada... (Yes, I did go vote yesterday). As Ozark Belt said, the media were covering the primaries as if there was no other news yesterday - even eclipsed the stock market drop (which had - for maybe 30 minutes - been the news earlier before the primary coverages kicked in...). Ah, politics! Blindfold [X-)]

Sign - Welcome [#welcome] (back?) to the Diner, Chuck! (I think you were in a time or so before, right?) Have a cup on me, and c'mon back again soon.

I was thinking this morning that I need to get some plywood sheets to try out and see about how much space additionally that I will need for all my structure kits I have yet to build. Oops [oops] Of course, after I start that figuring, I likely will have to start looking for a bigger apartment, right?

Well, need to do that 'w' thing today. See everyone later! Prayers for those along the storm's path and those digging out from under, as well as our ailing Diners and loved ones.

Blessings,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Just dropping in for a snack to get my creative writing juices flowing. I'm working on a write up of last night. There was a lot going on. The whole issue with the economy was very prominent in voters minds last night and I think it probably influenced the voting a good bit.

enough politics. once this write up is done, i can start working on my scene for MR's contest!

Oh well, back to my write up.

Funny you should ask.... I've just about wrapped up a new one.....

Morning folks, I'm back!

I called in sick yesterday and just slept and rested most of the day, still not 100% today, but enough energy to make it into work. Just want to go back to sleep though... Dead [xx(] Zzz [zzz] Sleepy [|)]

Lee nice site, I like the "Fox Creek Chronicle", I bet the pub opened up the bar again after that "Cat" sighting. And your chili recipe looks good too!

PC thanks for the chili recipe, now I know all your chili secrets! I'll have to post one of my chili recipes, but I have to write it down first.... Oh now...hey....is that de Frito Bandito! Aye, aye, aye-aye, PC is the Frito Bandito..... Congrats on the Chili Crown!  Whistling [:-^]

Rob I hope things improve for you and the misses soon! Angel [angel]

Mike thanks for the well wishes, and looks like we might have to sponsor a Diner Chili Cook-off soon! Chef [C=:-)]

Yeah, what they typically serve up there are the dryer style tamales (typical around Mexico City and the high plains area), cooked in corn leaf.  The ones we make need to be cooked in a folded banana leaf because the filling is a lot looser and would run out of a corn husk.  The dough is a coarse grind corn meal (coarser than what would be used to make tortillas) cut with lard.

Ed yes, the ones we ate were wrapped in banana leaves and were actually not as dry as the corn husk ones. When I made tamales at work we have used a product called Masa de maiz or masa harina for the tamale dough. I bet those naps you squeeze in at the grove are quite relaxing and refreshing; I can just imagine how peaceful it can be! Zzz [zzz]

Jim thanks for the heads up on the sore throat illness spreading. Angel [angel]

Good Day Gang,

Chloe, I'll have that "Flat Iron Steak" that Ryan has been raving about. (put it on his tab !!).Also a tall lemonaide, that will make me think more of summer thoughts.

My heart and prayers go out to those souls that were in the path of those storms last night through Arkansas, Tennessee, Alabama etc,  Like I said before, when looking at that devastation it sure makes -40c not so hard to take.   Don't you think Kevin & Charlie ?? Sure hope all our friends down that way are safe and sound.

Jeff: It looks like you are trying to model the loco in that picture I posted of that old KC power with a CP logo. (Scabby old girl).

Cape Jim:  we are all still waiting for you to put that big move on that sweet teller. Come on, keep us informed of your progress with her.  We want to start planning that Bachelor party.

It is nice and mild here today, just a little below freezing, so I'm going to take this opportunity to clean the driveway much better than what I had through that real cold weather.  Also to burn off some of those calories from Ryan's steak.

Have to go in to workk for a couple of hours tonight so I had better get things started around here as I do want to get back to my mountains before work as well.

Will check back in from work tonight. Till then ya all stay warm, stay safe.

JimRCGMO: Nope. Part 1 of 2 for the actual licence. I drive next week. Already done the Driver's Ed/ Learners thing.

Hoop: descrips is good too. keep pluggin'

I'll have a chocolate shake and some milk. oh, and one of them ravioli things. Thanks ladies!

Went to work on the trains last night, only to find that any of the paints I need are solid as rocks from the cold. So I'll get some silver spraypaint for the AFT. I was reasearching last night, and wound up in France. Apperently, the `49 observation wound up accompnying 49 French boxcars that were sent over loaded with gifts. one to each state.

Thanks for all your comments,

Afternoon, Chloe - I'll try that FlatIron steak - looked good on Johnboy's plate (what's left of the steak, that is...), so I'll have one.

And a root beer float, too, please!

Thanks, Rob! Wink [;)]

Johnboy, you might have to delay that bachelor party just a while. I'm getting no response (other than what any other bank customer would get) from the bank lady, and I'm not going to cause her problems discussing it through the speaker at the drive-thru (nor do I want her jumping to an "He's a stalker" conclusion). I'll keep looking for some other woman out there who's intended for me. But hey, you get to save up for a real sheebang of a party for me in the meantime, huh? Unless you have some cute gal that would like to move away from your delightful weather up there to my area...Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

Flashwave, that's even better on your license. Does your state have any 'break-in period' when you have to have a parent in the car with you? I know one or two states in our area have (or have been talking about) that kind of setup. But good that you'll be driving soon. Drive carefully, with all the lousy drivers out there. Thumbs Up [tup]

I'll be working on my steak and float now.

Blessings,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Perants were the only ones who could ride during Driver's Ed I believe, after that a legal family member would pass. (Though they wouldn't let me prop up old Dead Uncle Fred...) After getting one's licence actually, I can't drivewith anyone except a legal operator over 21 for 90 days. But I can go on my own. And I second the lousy drivers.

Hello everyone,

No progress on the layout this week so far. I was in Nashville Sunday and Monday.  Yesterday I came down with the flu, and I'm getting over that now. The storms were severe yesterday, and our electricity has just been re-connected.

The tests at the heart clinic Monday morning in Nashville were disappointing because they disclosed a couple more potential problems. I am glad, however, for my device and the medications becuase I still feel okay.

Happy Model Railroading

Early Evening Gang: Well I got not much done today. I did get the tractor hooked up to the trailer and had figured on making a quick trip out to Clark Gardens to discuss the HO layout. I ended up spending the afternoon there. You know, good company and friendly chatter. I didn't get home untill 4:30. I did order some C&NW passenger cars from Walthers. I get them at cost through the gardens.

Hoople: Great gift there, congratulations.

Garry: I hope that you get over the crud soon. I know that it isn't fun. It's really bad when you aren't feeling bad enough to stay home but not well enough to really get anything done at work. You might consider staying home to protect you fellow workers.

I can't believe that Tony Koster's article on ON-30 caused such a bru ha ha. I thought that the article was good. I'd give the On 30 a try but I don't need another scale to work in. Heck I can't even get anything done in the 3 I have now.

Well I guess Daisy wants to go out. I'll stop back in later.

Good Evening Coffee Clubbers,

Another beautiful day down here in Paradise.  Cool [8D]  Really nice low 70's temperature and cloudy while we were out at the orange grove in the morning.  The sun came out about noon and it warmed up a bit in the afternoon to maybe high 70's.  But I didn't need to run the a/c today like I did yesterday evening and all night!  Thumbs Up [tup]

Only spent a few hours at the grove today, plus the travel time of course.  The cut another 3 tons of oranges.  Looks like they'll be back tomorrow for 3 more.  Like I say, I'm glad to relieve the trees of all that weight.  And there's still a bunch of fruit still on the trees that they picked over.  They left the small ones and any that weren't sufficiently ripe.  And they only picked one variety.  So no worries here in the Coffee Shop / Diner, there's still enough fruit to satisfy your needs.  Big Smile [:D]

Paul B:  I can't believe that Tony Koster's article on ON-30 caused such a bru ha ha.
I'm always amused by people who chime in and opine on a thread when they haven't actually read the editorial/article in question.  [insert "shaking head" smilie]

Since we have to get up early again tomorrow, this will be another quick drive by posting.

Hasta mañana,

Ed

 Good late evening diners!

Glad this place is open late so I guess I should just have something light but I'll throw caution to the wind, give me a cinammon bun Chloe, toasted and a large coffee please.

I agree with Johnboy, the weather our southern neighbours have been getting makes -40 seem rather tame. I hope none of you had any damage and that it passes by quickly. Perhaps Johnboy and I could team up and send a nice high pressure arctic system your way. It might be cold but at least there wouldn't be thunderstorms, tornadoes and whatever else you've been getting. Just give us the word and we'll see what we can do. Wait, I just saw the week-end forecast here and it is for -30 so hang on and we'll push some your way. After all what are neighbours for anyway.

Well the paving crew has been a little slow on my roads. That's just typical, they put up the construction signs, block all traffic and then just leave for a day or two. They now say they'll be done in time for the week-end train operations but I've heard that story before.

I did get the correct decoder in my new Athearn RS3 but forward now actually reverse. At first I thought the decoder was in  backwards but as it is a JST connector, I can't see how that is possible. Lucky I'm the only operator but that isn't a quarantee of no future accidents.

Well it's time to head to bed as my furry alarm clocks  usually go off before 6 demanding to be let out. Hope that coffee doesn't keep me awake.

Evening folks-just some coffee in one of the Donkey mugs also-Jim-thanks for the PM-may have to go the photobucket route when I get more time, since the 1st option didn't work for some reason.

Also, on the bank teller situation, oh well, sounds like the best thing is to move on. BEEN THERE in similar situations! Like they say, when you least expect it... for it happened to me. I initially met Dawn on Match.com back in 2002. We met in person, but didn't click at the time. But we stayed in contact, mostly online, for the next 3 years as friends. She dated others, & so did I. Then in June 2005, still not sure what happened, but we realized we knew each other well enough to give things a shot again-we did, it worked, got engaged a year later, & here we are!

Flashwave-best of luck on your driving test. I took mine 2x-the 1st in my dad's 70' Tbird which was a disaster when it came to the parking/manueverability test, since the car was such a land yacht & poor visibility with the mirrors & windows. Most of my friends' took their tests in either their parents' or friend's much smaller cars, but my Mom said I had to take it in my Dad's car. I asked if I could buy my own & take the test, & she said sure. Took me awhile to save up $500 to snag a '73 Duster w/a V8, but the next time it was no problem!

Update on Mom-she's back over at the hospital she originated at! That's good, since the docs don't feel her cardiac issues are a problem anymore. her spirits are still very good, now for her to get her strength back!

Better hit it-Nite All!  (PS-since I seem to be the last one in here before Bill opens the place up in the morning, does that mean I get busboy duty? oops, never mind I asked that! Whistling [:-^] )
