Evening, Janie. Nothing for me, thanks - just stopping by on the way home.

Ah, Jeff - I see you posted that it's a City Classics - I figured either that or Nucomp (the folks who sell the entire trailer parks). Thanks for clearing it up.

Lee, that was a good deal you got on the heater. Thumbs Up [tup] Of course, per Murphy's Law, you have pretty much guaranteed a nicer winter in your area, right? Wink [;)] But that heater should still work fine next winter if it does warm up. If it's any consolation, a good text editor might be able to open your website's htm(l) pages and do a search and replace for the changes. The good thing when you get done will be that more users will be able to view your pages if it's written and checked out with both Firefox and Explorer. Microsoft sometimes uses their own quirky ways instead of across the board industry standards (like W3C). You might ask the website hosting company if they have some utility programs that will help with getting the pages like they want them. Many websites provide them (basic ones) for free.

Rob, I wish you lived closer - my buddy Mark was saying tonight that he'd like to sell some of his hay bales (I think he has the 'square' ones, but I might be off on that). Doubt that they'd be such a bargain if you had to drive all the way up here to get them, though.Sigh [sigh]

Several SuperBowl commercials I liked tonight - especially the one with the gal dancing with all the lizards (it was for some sports water drink) - hilarious! (You can tell what I go to a SB party to watch...)Wink [;)] My condolences to all the Patriots fans here.

Misting/drizzly here tonight, so my eastern neighbors - expect it tomorrow or Tuesday.

Got to get ready for bed. See everyone tomorrow. Prayers for those in need of healing, strength, or comfort.

Blessings and prayers,

Evening folks-just some coffee in my usual mug.

Going to try to make it to bed much earlier tonight to make up for last night. Zzz [zzz]

Update on Mom & Dad-both are doing better. Dad's congestion has cleared up a little, but it'll take a little time to clear up completely. Mom is doing much better also. The docs said there's a small blood clot in her leg, & they feel a small part of it broke off & went into her lung, causing her light headedness the other day. They're going to try medication to try to break it up, & still keeping an eye on her EKG. She's in the cardiac care unit of this hospital in Canton-one I hadn't been in since I was there myself as a patient at the age of 2 yrs (I was hydrocephalic when I was born-they had to put a shunt in my head to drain fluid, & as far as I know, it's still doing the job after 40 yrs!) This hospital is big & laid out, & she has her own room at the end of the hall. HDTV, you name it. When I went to see her earlier, she was watching a "Murder She Wrote" marathon, eating dinner, & going thru her papers & writing checks to pay bills for me to mail. She's definitely improved, compared to this past Friday. Thanks 1000x for the thoughts & prayers folks-they're very much appreciated & keep them coming! Angel [angel]

Cape Jim & Jerry-the bookcase looks ok & does the job so far-but a good argument for "scratchbuilding" another one-sheez! I need more as I still have a lot of books at Mom & Dad's in the attic I need to bring over. (yeah, I'm a "reader"-I've worked in a library for almost 26 yrs. LOL!) But I'd rather save my carpentry "skills" Whistling [:-^] for the future benchwork of the HVS!  I'm more into "functionality" than "asthetics". (My art teacher in high school's rant was "trite" stuff!)

Rob-thanks for your thoughts for Mom & Dad-talked to my aunt last night (Mom's 2nd to youngest sis & shares my b/day) in Douglasville GA while I was fighting the bookcase. I've never been down to see her yet, but my Mom flew down in '99 (her 1st plane trip & visit to her sis's house EVER since my aunt got married in 1964-My aunt has lived in either CA (1964-1973) & GA (1973-) so she'd never had the chance to visit up till then. (what happened on the plane trip down was quite funny-hopefully I'll post in the future!)

Phillip-your chili looks quite tasty-heavily hot & spicy? That's the way I like it-Dawn is the 1st one to make it that way since in high school days when a buddy of mine's Mom used to make it, & that kinda leads into....

Lee-my bud lived in Garfield Heights, & back in the 80's his Mom & Stepdad ran a restaurant at E.30th & St.Clair called "Basha's Paden Place." I was never there, but they had a place at Atwood Lake down here, where I met them-I could never get enough of his Mom's cooking! Dinner [dinner] You're right on not being far-an hour to the second almost drive-I used to faithfully hit the big old record show at the Autoworkers Hall on Chevrolet Blvd 2x times a year until the promoter quit doing it-I got a lot of classic 45's, both country & early R&R from there.

Jeff-I know you recently posted somewhere the age of your trailer, but I forget exactly, but I was impressed due to the age of it & still going strong! (Dawn's was a '71, & literally falling apart!)

(Looks at clock) I better hit the sack folks-if I missed anyone, apologies-Thanks for the coffee-Nite All!

   Howdy all.

Good to see an NFC team win the bowl, even if all I saw was the last 19 seconds. Never cared for the AFC. Ce[t for the Steelers. They shoulda been NFC.  Congratulations to all of you Giant fans. Glad to see them take it.

Got an e-add for Factory Direct Trains tonight, they have a BLI SD9 in Penn Central black, DC sound equipped, lots of neat sounds, for 119$. Seriously thinking about it. I don't have a sound loco, and I just don't know if it's a good way to go or not. Decisions decisions.

Picked up the final paint for the new bedroom, sky blue for the upper half of the walls, white wainscotting for the bottom. The Light Keepers house at White Fish Point has that arrangement in a couple of rooms, IIRC, different colors, but a classy look. We'll give it a try.

Silverspike- I hear what your'e saying about the taxes. Our City Building isn't taking out the correct amount for our county tax, we've told them, but they are too stupid to figure it out. Looks like we're going to need to set about 5 bucks a pay aside to cover it next year. I hate paying state and county taxes, especially when I drive around this part of the state. Indianapolis doesn't even know we exist, except when they need more money.

der- You are absolutely right, if you don't have fun at work, or whatever it is, you might as well not do it.

Paul- That Sgt Shultz stuff- well,I guess it'll work this time. I suppose we get the weather we get, and blaming it on you or Jim or the boys up north is silly. But with Indiana being known as "The Weather Paradise of the Midwest", it's hard to understand, sometimes!Big Smile [:D]  Sorry to hear about Diannes dad, and Tony. You hang in there. Lara should help out in that area. Sounds like she's a doll.

pcarrell- That looks like award winning chili to me. Now these other guys can only sample it virtually, but I can drive down there and meet you somewhere! I'll be the one with the truck full of crackers!

JeffreyW- I really like the night shots, the yellow light looks warm and just "right". And that trailer is good looking too. I was real glad, living in east central Indiana, to see both NuComp- just up the road from me,BTW, and City Classics come out with REAL Hoosier Homesteads. Add the trailers to a few Rix houses and it looks like 85% of the towns around here.

Speaking of old TV, (Sgt Shultz) one of my young friends-he's 35, has recently discovered McHale's Navy on DVD. He showed us an interview with Tim Conway the other night, it was pretty funny. I never knew he served in the Army. From the way he describes his hitch, it's lucky we still have one.

Got a couple of pics of NS units on Sat, a spartan cab SD70 with a short trains of PS-2 hoppers for the cement plant in Portland, then 2 C40W's parked by the Anderson's Grain Terminal in Dunkirk. I was hoping to see the GATX unit again in better light, but haven't gotten lucky yet.

Better get going, I'm just hoping that the lights stay on tonight.

Good morning everyone.

I didn't intend to offend anyone with my comments about my "former web host" for my web site.  It would have been nice if they told me about their strict anti-Microsoft/Netscape policy before I submitted a rather lengthy web site plan and content resume before I was given an account. Matter of fact it I highly recommend visiting his web site if you're a novice like me, his step by step interactive tutorials on how to use Microsoft software to design and upload my web page to his server was extremely helpful.

My new site can be found at: lswrailroad.bravehost.com

Mitch, The UAW hall has 4-5 train shows each year, but it's predominantly large scale train stuff. The only cool thing is once in a blue moon you find the guy dumping all his HO/N scale stuff because he is switching to O/S gage. I'm considering going to the Massillon show and/or the Medina show this spring, do you have any insight to share?

Jeff, I do like your lighting.  The 3 story building with the illuminated individual floors was very cool and adds a high class of detail to your layout.

Colby,  I think it's a GIANT undertaking not to hear about the Super bowl.

Morning. Cold, 32 degrees here. I bet Sue is enjoying 27 degrees.

Looks like the pats didn't go all the way. Just like I wanted. Thanks to NYG for stopping them.

Sue: Are you gonna be able to come to the next Puyallup show? The big Trains, Trains, and More Trains one. I'm probably going to go with the Modular SIG, and show off my big boy if it comes.

Mornin, just coffee for now Zoe

Dense for advisory for here this morning and it's still thick as pea soup, even with temps now 47, high today 59, with rain and a chance of thunderstorms later. Bout the same for tomorrow and Wed's forecast, mid 20's, with a chance for snow.

#3 SIL is staying with us now, till he finds someplace. The company he works for is transferring him to Terre Haute, Jamie n the kids are still staying in Girard for awhile.

#2 son works midnights and is one bedroom, a SIL in another working days in the other and grandkids all day, so we've got bodies coming n going at all hours now.

Last nights game was one of the best ones in the last few years. I didn't care which team won, I was hoping for a good, close game and we got it.

PC,, congrads on 1'st place in chili n great news on the wife, getting to drive and taking an interest in the layout.

MITCH,, good news on mom n dad improvements.

PAUL,, glad to hear some good news from down yur way too.

We'll keep ya'll and anyone I missed in our thoughts

Joke for the day

Scientist gets on a train to go to New York. His cabin also has a poor farmer in it. To pass the time the scientist decides to play a game with the guy.
"I will ask you a question and if you get it wrong, you have to pay me one dollar. Then you ask me a question, and if I get it wrong, you get ten dollars. You ask me a question first." The farmer thinks for a while.
"I know. What has three legs, takes ten hours to climb up a palm tree, and ten seconds to get back down?" The scientist is confused and thinks long and hard about the question. Finally, the train ride is coming to an end. As it pulls into the station, the scientist takes out ten dollars and gives it to the farmer.
"I don''t know. What has three legs, takes ten hours to get up a palm tree and ten seconds to get back down?"
The farmer takes the ten dollars and puts it into his pocket. He then takes out one dollar and hands it to the scientist.
"I don''t know."

Need to get this posted I guess, I've been since 4am doing it. Hope ya'll has a gooden n stay safe

I've been out of pocket from the Internet since Friday. We went on a day trip to Seagrove, NC on Saturday and toured the pottery center and 5 other pottery shops around the area. Great collections of handmade pottery, we bought some new coffee cups and a few pots too! Ate lunch at the Jug Town Café in Asheboro, NC and drove home. I probably pushed myself too much with all the walking around and visiting all the pottery shops on Saturday. I also took some photos with my new camera, and will try to post a few of those once I set up the new imaging software on the computer.

Dead [xx(] The sore throat did not get any better however, and I went back to the doctor this morning, got some more medicine (cough syrup with codeine) and hopefully I will be able to sleep better and start to see some improvement soon.

Lee if it's not too late, how about "The LS&W - You build it - we ship it!" Nice deal on those portable heaters from HD, I also heard they cut about 500 employees from their home office in Atlanta due to slipping sales in January and stock price falling 30% in the past year. As far as brass goes, I have a similar stack that would be available to anyone too!

Lee sorry about the HTML stuff, if you want to learn how to code there is a free shareware software called HTMLKit ( http://www.htmlkit.com/ ) that you can install and build your own sites. What you could do is make the files in Front Page like you want to, and then open them up in HTMLKit and rename them the file format they want you to use. *.htm, or whatever. Also, if you want a free hosting service GooglePages will allow you to build one, it is basic, free, but has no web rings or anything like that, you just need to set up Google mail email account (free) and you are ready to roll. Send me a PM or email if you want more help with the site.

CN Charlie thanks for the input on the menus, and with feeling better! Thumbs Up [tup]

Mike and RT thanks for the Senior Questions; I resemble some of those remarks! Confused [%-)]

Mike I like that "scientist" joke, going to have to remember that one! Laugh [(-D]

Der John sounds like you continue progress with the ballasting, and thanks note on feeling better! Your ballasting technique is very similar to the way I do it in HO!

GMT, glad you liked Friday's menu! Working on a new one for tomorrow!  Looking forward to seeing the progress on the vents and the water tower too!

Jim sorry for the confusion, I was not doing well at all on Friday, Dead [xx(] must have been after I took some of that medicine, my head was spinning Friday, and Saturday, and some of Sunday....

Garry nice pic of the layout! Sorry for missing the past few days menu's, been out of pocket and not on the Internet either,  just no energy the past few days. Glad you liked the NP menu, and yes, another transcontinental train from the past. Good luck with the tests at the clinic! Angel [angel]

John Boy looking forward to seeing those mountains and tunnels! Thanks for the getting' better wishes! Thanks for the report on the "Bucket" movie; it looks funny too, looking forward to seeing that one. We like both those actors, and can't wait to see it based on your review!

Jerry I'll be putting together another menu soon! I've been behind all day with going to the doc this morning! Hope you got a band-aid on the knuckle quick like; a dull knife blade will cut you faster than a sharp one. Our culinary instructor taught us that up front, a dull chef knife will slip more often and find your fingers faster than a sharp blade. We always used to sharpen our knives first thing in the morning, every morning. Chef [C=:-)]

Okay Ed, I'm jealous now, your weather report reminds me of Louisiana this time of year! Oh, and your tamale making sounds like fun, I haven't made them in years, but have had ones similar to those you spoke of. And they typically had pulled pork and peas and beans in them, which is very different from the typical Tex-Mex variety y

Hey all. Nice pics those that posted, I skimmed. Look like a lot of good news. Hate the fog today thought. Heard the Bus radio, the drivers couldn't see US at the corners. let alone the road.

Happy to report that a fried of mine's photo on the NWR with my engine took gold at the CID something, he said. He sure is a whizz at the shutter.

Ryan, Well I thought it would be nice to have the layout posted on http://www.trainweb.org/ but http://www.braveone.com/ will work just as well.  I thought about Google, but too much work, wanted something easy to update.  It's not out there to impress anyone, just to let friends and family see what I'm up to.

PC, congrats on the chili, maybe one day we can square off, just your #1 chili and my #1 chili, LOL.

I stopped at the LHS today on the way home from work and picked up "Weathered Tie" brown and a movie theater for Fox Creek.  I didn't like all the bling that came with the Walther's kit, it was cool, but would be out of place with the DPM buildings and stuff.  The LHS is stocking up for RailFest 2008 at Lakeland collage this March.  If anyone finds themselves stuck in NE Ohio it's a great show.

It was wierd for a while after I cut it off.  Very lightweight!  AND COLD!

Bow [bow] PC congratulations on the chili cook-off! Is the recipe to follow? Whistling [:-^]

And give away all my secrets!

It's simple really.....just double up on the meat and make it spicy hot sausage (I use Bob Evans brand) instead of ground beef.  Use fresh ground peppers to taste (green chilis, cayenne, habanero, & jalapeno), fire roasted tomatoes (fire roasted makes all the difference in the world - diced and crushed), 12oz of water (for a single batch), and chopped red onions (just a little - a handful or so).  A dash or two of course salt (I like Carroll Shelby's brand - comes with the seasoning, salt, and flour), chili seasoning, and substitute the mesa flour in the kit for some better quality mesa flour.  Throw in some Bush's Best brand dark red kidney beans (if you like them, or you can skip them) and simmer for about 8-10 hours.  When it's all said and done you're ready to tastefully roast your tastebuds off in style!

Happy?  Now the cats outta the bag! Wink [;)]

If I was going to take my beloved skiing I'd insure her for nothing less than $5 Million. We are thinking about a trip this spring but  will wait and see how her Mom fairs Chemo and Radiation.

Well nothing much else on the go except maybe Kidney Stones...

Tomorrow I start my Rescue Specialist Recert.

And hopefully I'll get some work on the MR this next few weeks.

Later All

in a SANTA FE mug tonight, please & thank you!

***Ryan, water has not been an issue since we bought those two big tanks. It was still the right call, as our well might well have gone dry long ago if it wasn't for catching and storing all that rain water. Now if the sun would just come out and grow some grass QUICK...gulp!

Wife went to the Doc today. BP is way too high so he put her on meds for it.

Evening, a barley pop please Cleo, Thought I'd stop in tonight since I'll probably be busy the next few days [hope not].

Still foggy here in the woods, has been all day, but you get out in the open and it's clear. Weather guesser at 5 give the humidity at a 100% and a dew point of 58, it's 50 here.

PC,, I'd go against in a chili cook off but can't give ya the recipe because I never measure anything other than the hamburger 1#, sausage 1# and about 1# of deer burger, a couple big jars of Mother home canned stewed tomatoes and 4 cans of chili beans, everything else is by taste.

RYAN,, hope your throat gets to better soon.

Best get my shower 3:30 comes early even for me, hopefully KC will take her afternoon nap so I can get one

Evening Gang: I went to see Tony today. He looked good and was able to talk so I could understand most everything. His kidneys are in bad shape and his liver is really shot. He isn't putting out the fluids. He needs to drink more water etc. I don't know how much longer he has. The big problem was that his TV control wasn't working. That was getting on his nerves. I got the nurse and they were going to get a service man to look at it.

I took the train again and rode the old RDCs. Actually I think that I like them better then the new Bombardier cars. The seats are more comfortable and the ride well. Once again I missed the train back to Ft Worth by about 5 mins. I went to the West End and had lunch. A real good burger at the YO Steakhouse.

PC: Congrats on the win. The chili looks good.

Rob I wish that I was closer so I could help you out. Hang in there.

Well I guess I'll sign out.

Good Night All

Does anyone remember a recent article about a "Modern Shortline"? It had plans to model it, with street running and harbor work. The real thing ran garbage trains, andf there was a picture of the street run  that was at such an anle the McD's in the background looked like the train was in the drive through. Abd one branch cut across driveways, that crews nicknamed the gauntlet. Pity I can't remeber anything more important, like the magazine... Could be Puget Sound, can't recall

Good Evening Coffee Clubbers,

Another beautiful day down here in Paradise, Cool [8D]  but the heat is creeping up to the point where it may not be so beautiful (at least not for me) tomorrow.  We'll see.  Not much going on today.  Dentist appointments for Fran and I, but that was the most exciting thing that happened (outside of my nap).  Zzz [zzz]

Tomorrow promises to be a long day at the orange grove.  Hope it doesn't get as warm as they forecast.

Wow, what a great game yesterday.  Made even better, at least from my point of view, by being a win by the Giants.  That pass from Manning to Tyree will make highlight reels for years.  Big Smile [:D]

CG Jim:  That's a lot of tamales!
Not that many when you figure that between our house, my in-laws next door, and just the two sisters-in-law and their families who live close by there are 17 people.  They can go through a bunch of tamales in a short time.
How big is your town (and surrounding residents)?
Oooowww, tough question.  No good stats.  The whole "municipio" (county) supposedly has maybe 110,000-120,000.  The city itself I'd guess at maybe 60,000.  Hard to really tell.  Population density within the city is much higher than you'd see up north because lot size is tiny.

Ryan:  I haven't made them in years, but have had ones similar to those you spoke of. And they typically had pulled pork and peas and beans in them, which is very different from the typical Tex-Mex variety you see more often in the States.
Yeah, what they typically serve up there are the dryer style tamales (typical around Mexico City and the high plains area), cooked in corn leaf.  The ones we make need to be cooked in a folded banana leaf because the filling is a lot looser and would run out of a corn husk.  The dough is a coarse grind corn meal (coarser than what would be used to make tortillas) cut with lard.

I've seen ones with peas/carrots/ground pork as the filling, called "picadillo".  The ones that have black beans usually have the beans cut right into the dough, as opposed to a filling.  They also make ones filled with a sweet squash filling.

PC - congrats on winning the chili cookoff.  Thumbs Up [tup]

All the recipes you guys posted make my efforts look tame by comparison.

Lee - 3 gallons!?!  Guess that serves the whole party.  Shock [:O]

That's about it from down here.

Hasta mañana,

Ed

I'm ready to give up, we were under a fog advisory all day, now we're under a severe thunderstorm watch. Check the radar and there's a line of thunderstorms across MO, IL and IN heading ESE.

Don't know if this link will work or not

Evening, ET Diners! Chloe, how about a chocolate frozen yogurt concrete, please.

Thanks, Flashwave!

I figure that those chili recipes you folks have been posting probably would take off the roof of my mouth if I tried to eat some of them. Shock [:O]Evil [}:)]

Oh, Mitch, I found a couple of things you might like:

I'll leave the mugs with our lovely servers, so just tell one of them which one you'd like your coffee in. Smile [:)]

Sorry for our Patriots fans, but that was some game, all right. Of course, I really enjoyed several of the commercials! Laugh [(-D]

Our fog finally cleared away late this morning. Seems weird to have the temp in February around 67 F at suppertime. Hope Inch and Jerry are laying low tonight - from the radar images on the TV, there's a bit of a front coming up through St. Louis in a northeasterly direction, though the front isn't moving east at very much of a clip. It's not supposed to get to us until tomorrow,if I recall correctly. They're saying 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow night will be the rougher time for it.

Paul, good to hear Tony's feeling as best as can be expected and isn't in any great pain. As for the RDC's, I wouldn't mind getting to ride one of those some time.

Fergie, have you changed the size of your MESS(tm) logo in your signature? I've noticed that lately it seems like the bottom of it is cropped off (flat instead of round shape). I sure hope that Lisa wears protective padding around the house, from what you described...Whistling [:-^] Whistling [:-^] It is probably better that she didn't go skiing with you, though.

DerJohn, thanks for the ballasting clinic - very useful (and I'm in HO scale, too!) - thanks! You continue to be making the progress on your layout Thumbs Up [tup] - unlike myself and one or two others.... Blush [:I]

Lee, which theatre did you go with for Fox Creek? I kind of like the Scale Structures Art Deco  Theatre or the Branchline Majestic Theatre, but don't like the $50-60+ price for either. Still wondering whether to go with the DPM 'Entertainment District' that has a theatre in it, or
just start saving up for one of the above kits. Ah well... Good to hear that you have a place for your website - let us know the full address once you have it all up, okay?

PC, if you daughter's got herself a Golden Retriever, she'd better figure on getting a good job. Some of those can have a pretty hefty appetite when they're grown. Dinner [dinner] Wink [;)]

Ryan, take care of that sore throat - our pastor at church on Sunday was running a fever with his, and just came out to give the message (so he didn't expose anyone else who might catch it from him. He said his wife's version lasted only 24 hours, but his had been building up. So better take care and get your fluids into you.

They had a guy in our area on the news tonight who has a dozen or more tractors that he works on to keep himself busy. He's basically an ORF (like a few in the Diner), so it gives him something to do with his days. Guess he doesn't have stock to tend to... Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

Well, tomorrow morning is our primary elections - now I have to find out who's running on which ticket. Silly Missouri has this rule about you have to pick a party to vote for in the primary, unlike the November elections....Oops [oops] Guess I'd better get my smart sleep so I can vote against for the candidates of my choice.Wink [;)]

Prayers for wisdom for those voting tomorrow, and for healing and a good night's rest for those ailing.

Blessings and prayers,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

   Hello all.

OK, lets get to it- Silverspike- You want to see my pictures? YOU want to see my pictures?!?!? Man, I want to see my pictures! I went online with Amyjo's laptop this weekend, thinking I might be able to post a few on railroadpicturearchives.net or photobucket, rrpicarc.net seemed ok, but they mentioned they were restricting new albumns to areas not heavily covered yet or pre-1990 shots. I have tons of those, and I think I would fit in with the not heavily covered area, but I hesitated, and went to photobucket. After trying 20 different passwords, I decided to give up and get my password cheat sheet here at work. Last night, I spaced it, but tonight I'll try again, because JUST TODAY I grabbed 2 shots of D&RGW 5413 followed by an NS unit in the fog as they ran through Redkey. The buildings around the track look like model railroad structures, and I love shots of trains in bad weather. I still haven't developed the last shots of the D&RGW units, but I'll try to get them over to wallyworld and get them printed. And then, with the disc maybe figure out how to post. Amyjo would be glad to help, but our schedules barely leave time for - well, you name it. Tonight when we laid down for our nap, it was the first time since last Tues we were actually in the same bed together at the same time. She also had a tooth filled last Thur and the dentist put too much cement on it, so she was in pain all weekend. Soon, my friend, soon.

Let's see, not much else to report, I knew that pcarrell's winning chili wouldn't last long, should have tried to get down that way after his first post!

    Hang in there guys.
