So, when an F4 or F5 tornado crosses train tracks, does it leave them damaged and unsafe?
***Garry, hope your health improves soon.
***Jeffrey, very cool night pic, as usual.
Power company crew came through the other morning with one of those heavy duty, huge tired critters with the massive saw blade on the end of a telescoping pole and trimmed the trees along our driveway (up to the inner gate anyways). Looks great and saved me a ton of work I didn't have time for.
Good night all. Rob
Good Morning All
Nothing on the go here. I heard several Southern States got nailed by Tornadoes yesterday. Hope everyone here and those with loved ones didn't have to go through that. Saw some of the pics. Unbelievable!

Good Morning from Tipton IN !

Good Morning All,
Coffees on and fresh! I'll have one of Bills' donuts and a regular to go please Zoe. In the 40's again this morning but without all the fog. It's supposed to transition to snow by the end of the day so we'll see. Still not doing a good job keeping up with the posts - turned in early last night and din't even get down stairs. We did get all the track in place on the school layout (third graders with tack hammers are awesome - just watch your fingers). Been starting early and staying late at the shop trying to catch up a bit, but there are still so many loose ends to deal with and times getting short.
Hope no-one got hit by the weather yesterday - the twisters sound like they were really bad and the devastation was unreal. Mitch - hope your mom does better back in the hospital and you need to keep her focused on the rehab thing so you can get her home.
Do we have an appropriate holiday coming up for the Fiesta Cookoff ? Hopefully Ryan will be back up to snuff soon and we can have him start work on the commerative menu, no?
Well my sack and coffee have arrived so I'll head back into the shop to get on with it. Hope y''all have a good one. J.R.
Good Morning!
I'll have a choffee and some donuts. Got my write-up finished, turning it in today, hope that goes well. Don't think I'll be able to get anything done on the layout today. I have an article to write on Liberty v. Security. Its due on tuesday.
"He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain that which he cannot lose." - Jim Elliot Visit my blog! http://becomingawarriorpoet.blogspot.com
Good Morning, Zoe - I'll have a glass of Ed's OJ, cup of coffee and one of Bill T.'s chocolate donuts. Oh, heck - and some scrambled eggs, toast and blackberry jam, too!
- and look who gets to cover breakfast. Ah, well...
Just a 'quick' stop by before heading out to that place that makes the nice deposits in my bank account (no, Dick, not Social Security! )...
And that reminds me - today is PAYDAY!, plus I checked the bank account yesterday and they had credited me back the duplicated payment. I had to call and remind them about the insufficient funds charge that needed to be credited back (so that will be going through today, too). Yippee!!
Mitch, I can relate to your delay in getting your license. When I was trying to get mine, the license bureau office was 20+ minute drive away from home, and you had to have a copy of your birth certificate to get to take the test, etc. Well, first it took a bit to get a copy, and then I would be over near that area with my parents, but wouldn't have the b.c. copy, or I'd be at home and remember the certificate, but Mom and/or Dad would be gone someplace and I couldn't get there. I finally took to carrying the certificate copy in my wallet, and did get my license about when I was 18, instead of most of my friends who got theirs around age 16.
Speaking of licenses, now I need to get by the license bureau and get license plates and all for the car. Got the insurance set up yesterday (and a letter indicating that I have insurance), and I have my property taxes receipt for last year. Finally winding those things up.
I also picked up TurboTax yesterday, so over the weekend I'll be seeing about doing my tax returns. Hopefully, I'll get a refund this year (again).
Better get to breakfast and then out the door for me.
Blessings,
Jim in Cape Girardeau
Good morning everyone.
Well we finally got a break from that 50F w/rain and are back at a wonderful 28F and snow. Yesterday alone we got 1.76" of rain. I had to scout the head of navigation for potential flood issues and sure enough I found them. The water was so high in the valley that everything was under water except for the block signals. The Cuyahoga river (in English: Crooked river) was over its banks by several yards. It appears that the river level increased 24" in 24 hours. Over the past week we got almost 10" of rain. I can't complain too much about the 3 minor leaks in my basement.
I found my dream job while I was on patrol yesterday; Remote control locomotive operator. The former B&O yard in the Cleveland Flats (CSX) is running remote control GP38s to do switching for some of the local industries. If we have some clear weather I might get a chance to take some pictures.

Hope everyone made it okay through the storms that passed through the southeast yesterday.
Still coughing up quite a bit, but the sore throat is getting better, and the crude is in the lungs though!

Rob that much coffee would have my heart doing overtime, doc says only one cup a day for me! And the unleaded just isn't the same either.
Garry sorry about the heart tests, hopefully they found something that can be fixed.
JR sounds like a plan, you guys come up with a date and we can all bat around some ideas for a virtual chili fiesta, ole!
Jerry crossing gate sounds like a nice project, I need to build a set of them too!

Morning all! Yup, it's still morning......barely!
Busy, busy morning!
This weather this week is playing havoc with phone lines everywhere. I guess I should look at it as "job security", huh? Working in the service department at the phone company seems to always have something to keep you busy, thats for sure!
So hows everyong doing today? Good I hope!
The new addition to our family (my daughters new dog) is getting into the grove. She's a good dog, and smart as a whip. I think she'll be one of the best dogs we've ever had around the house. Tell ya what, she's big. She's a horse! And she seems to like my side of the bed too!
Well, I'd best get busy again......later!
Mornin,, a story for the day
Wise old man
A wise old gentleman retired and purchased a modest home near a junior high school. He spent the first few weeks of his retirement in peace and contentment. Then a new school year began. The very next afternoon three young boys, full of youthful, after-school enthusiasm, came down his street, beating merrily on every trashcan they encountered. The crashing percussion continued day after day, until finally the wise old man decided it was time to take some action. The next afternoon, he walked out to meet the young percussionists as they banged their way down the street. Stopping them, he said, "You kids are a lot of fun. I like to see you express your exuberance like that. In fact, I used to do the same thing when I was your age. Will you do me a favor? I'll give you each a dollar if you'll promise to come around every day and do your thing." The kids were elated and continued to do a bang-up job on the trashcans. After a few days, the old-timer greeted the kids again, but this time he had a sad smile on his face. "This recession's really putting a big dent in my income," he told them. "From now on, I'll only be able to pay you 50 cents to beat on the cans." The noisemakers were obviously displeased, but they accepted his offer and continued their afternoon ruckus. A few days later, the wily retiree approached them again as they drummed their way down the street. Look," he said, "I haven't received my Social Security check yet, so I'm not going to be able to give you more than 25 cents. Will that be okay?" "A quarter?" the drum leader exclaimed. "If you think we're going to waste our time, beating these cans around for a quarter, you're nuts! No way, dude. We quit!" And the old man enjoyed peace and serenity for the rest of his days.

Inch That's a great story. It backs up the saying that old age and treachary beat youth and vigor.
Not much going on. Mary Ann and I are waiting for John and Dianne to come by. We're going in to see the baby's doctor and see little Lara, of course. We did the usual chasing in town this morning and then she helped me get the two tractors and dump trailer moved across the creek. When we get back if it's not too late I'll go over and start hauling the dirt.
Well I guess I'll head out and see what else is going on before the kids get here.
Afternoon all
I'll have a hamburger and milkshake. Jeff- Nice photos!!!!
Well, I better go. got a article to write!!!
Hello everybody...
Well, as I said, the storms were severe. A tornado touched down about five miles from here. It blew the roof off a house and onto a road. People inside the house escaped without injury. The main power transmssion line for the county was knocked out for about twelve hours. It was a little rough on barns and other farm structures.

This locomotive is in a city park in Nashville. It's NC&StL 4-8-4. This type of locomotive was not called a "Northern" on the NC&StL Instead, they called it a "Dixie". It's vanderbilt tender is similar to Bowser's tender that Bowser had on its freelanced 4-8-4 model. The "Dixie" had a cone shaped smoke box cover looking somewhat like the smokebox covers on SP "Daylight locomotves. I'm glad this engine is preserved. I took the pictures Monday in the rain.
Coffee in a mug and an order of BROILED FISH, Lemon Butter Sauce, Cole Slaw, and String Beans. Thanks!
Power co. came back this morning so I opened the inner gate so they could trim back the old pine tree practically leaning on transformer/pole. Should be no more shorts caused from wind storms blowing branches into the wires. Only took about 10 years for them to get around to it.
***Garry, that's a sharp looking Northern "Dixie" loco.
Wow! Thats a beauty. Thanks for the pix.
I'm only SEVEN pages behind and no time to read. One question. Anyone thinking of going to Jacksonville,Fla. for the train show on Sat. the 23rd of Feb.???? If so, please get in touch.

Good Evening Coffee Clubbers,
Yup, it was another beautiful day down here in Paradise. A chilly (for Fran, that is) 56º when we headed out to the orange grove at dark-thirty. But the sun came out and it warmed up to maybe mid 70's by the afternoon. If it were like this all year round, I'd be a lot happier here. As it is, I'm trying to enjoy these days while they're here.
Sold off 3 more tons of oranges this morning. That's about it for the time being. There's still a ton (more, actually) of fruit left on the trees. Even the variety that they picked, they left a lot of fruit that still needs a few more weeks to ripen. But this way the trees that were heaviest with fruit have been relieved of the majority of the weight.
After three straight days of work out at the grove, even Fran was feeling tired. She took a nap with me this afternoon, which is something she normally doesn't do.
Dessert tonight is Key Lime pie. It was last night too, but I forgot to mention it. We have to do something with the limes that we're starting to harvest.
JR: Do we have an appropriate holiday coming up for the Fiesta Cookoff ?
Jerry: ...what will they do with the oranges they are picking..eating,juice?
Garry - nice looking locomotive. But I think that cone shaped smoke box cover would take some getting used to.
Rob: Power co. came back this morning so I opened the inner gate so they could trim back the old pine tree practically leaning on transformer/pole. Should be no more shorts caused from wind storms blowing branches into the wires.
That's about it from down here this evening.
Hasta mañana,
Ed
Good Evening All,
Not too much ambition tonight so I'm surfing the web and catching up on posts. Cinco de Mayo may be it Ed with my schedule the way it is lately. When you visit trainboards by the way what is up? I've been a member for a bit now but don't really know where all the paths lead there. From what I've seen it is a lot of N scale and not much else. Am I missing areas there ?
Jerry - you're going to have to stop drag racin that wheelchair. The axels obviously aren't up to it. Isn't this the second or third one thats let go?
Ryan - that's some nasty cold you caught. The CFO's in the same boat and the weather changes are raising cain with here sinuses as well. Hang in there and get better.
Flip - I'll be in Fla the 23rd, but at Moroso racetrack not Jax.
I did laod a couple of more progress pics so here goes
buildings with detailing started. I'll need to get the tripod out if I can't hold still better than this.
street shot through the bridge opening.
alternate shot at same location
That's all for now - catch yall later. J.R.
I likes the Dixie.Don't see the rounded smokebox, but then I should probably recall what a smokebox is....
And I see Jef fis stillgoing for the rustic look
A police interceptor? now THAT"S the way to take a test. I'l be trying it in a Pontiac 6000le. It will parrellell park, especialy when the alternator works.
Got Half Moon designed. we're ready for Spring to start the grundbreaking. pics will come when I get on my comp.
G'night

Howdy, all-
Silverspike and Ed- I actually, just now, uploaded pics to my photobucket acct, and I actually, just now, sent you two a link or something or another to view some of MY photos.
These aren't the ones I wanted to send, necessarily, but they are the A. Ones I found 2. The one that had pictures on a CD, and C. The ones I uploaded first.
IF you get them, please let me know- and if you don't which is more in the realm of probability, let me know that too. Don't have a clue what I might do, but let me know anyway. I'll try to check in here on Ajo's laptop this weekend, if not, I'll be back here on Sun night. Sure hope it works.
If it works out, I might even get frisky and try to post a few here.
Painted the ceiling in the room addition today, made me dizzy and dis-oriented, not that Amyjo noticed a difference, but I need color contrast to focus on, and this was white on white. Had to angle the light this way and that to even see where I painted.
Tonight, we are going to try to set up a trashcan to shoot guns into, I guess like on TV and the such. Going to put sand and old bullet proof vest here and there to make it less deadly. If you don't ever hear from me again, look for me in the Darwin Awards, under "stoooopid police tricks".
This AM, the eastern half of Jay Co had freezing mist, the JCSD had around 15 slideoffs, wrecks and general mayhem in 1 1/2 hours. We had nothing at all. US27 was so slick, the deputy couldn't stand on the roadway, he kept sliding towards the ditch. He had 2 accidents behind him while he was working on one. No one hurt, and fun to listen to. And not w**k.
OK, all, take care and we'll be back, just like a bad penny.
A regular and a donut in a sack to go please Zoe. In the immortal words of Brian Johnson "I'm back in the rig to take another swing". Done with radiators for now and on to Elva suspension bits and oil reservoirs. Big todo in the paper this week as the common council in our city has instituted the beginnings of an agreement with ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) to allow access to federal data banks and work in co-operation with the Feds when people without documentation are arrested. We do have a massive illegal population here and the people benefiting from their labor and purchases are unhappy as they think this will cut into their profits. On the other hand we've got folks driving about with no license, registration, insurance, etc as well as people with multiple i.d. and maybe being able to access the feds info will help weed some of these criminals. Most of us agree that the current system is broken (hard not to agree when it takes on average 8 years, thousands of dollars and a needlessly complicated process to get a green card). Ok, ok, I'll get off my soap box now.
Hope everyone has a good day today - how is little Lara coming along? Keep those great pics coming - I loved the shots of the "Dixie" (or is it a Southern ?) good to see one at least sabilized and painted. And hope Ryan is feeling better. Lee - as you inspect the banks don't forget to bring your rubber raft just in case!!! Gotta go make parts now. CUL, J.R.
hey guys!.
Well I've gone bald! don't worry unlike you older people mine will grow back.
it's for swimming and all the guys on the team shave their heads bald but leave 1/8 of an inch. I've already freaked out a few kids today.

Goooood Morrrrnning Diners!!
Zoe, how about some of Ed's OJ,
cup of coffee,
couple of strips of bacon and a waffle or two, please?
Thankya, ma'am.
Nice sunny (but sort of cold) day in Cape Girardeau. Currently 34 F, wind out of the south at 6 mph, and s'pposed to reach low 50's today. Not bad - heck, that's like summer for Johnboy or CN Charlie, right guys?
Dug through and put together all my stuff I need for my trip to the license bureau today (to get plates for the car). I'm gonna have to just store a file on my computer at home that reminds me what I need for the next time I get a car ('cause I'll have forgotten by then). And fortunately, I have a gap in my appointments this a.m. that should give me enough time to go get that done.
Inch, liked that 'wise old man' story - shared it with some co-workers this morning.
Jeff, you're coming along with that trailer. Will you have one or two of those small propane tanks on the end of that (at least, that's where I've seen them sometimes), or one medium-sized one in the yard with a line running to the trailer? Good work on that bucket o'bolts diesel, too - looks like it's been working forever for your line!
I'm thinking of going to Marion, Illinois tomorrow to a LHS there that several club members have said has their MRR'ing kits, supplies, etc. piled above your head on the shelves (well-stocked, by the reports). Will need to figure tonight just how much money I want to take with me, so I don't go wild like the proverbial kid in the candy store (or would that be bull in a china shop?).
Oh, I also scored some more rolling stock on that e-auction site yesterday- several Proto 2000 cars (couple more gondolas and 3 more 50' automobile boxcars - got to get those new cars to my towns). Will be sending payment off today on those, so sometime next week or so, should have those in. I also picked up the Santa Fe covered hoppers from our MRR clubhouse, and I'll need to redo the decals on those, as they're 1972, so I'll have to do some backdating of the build dates on them both, plus paint over the reader code strip - or whatever that thing's called).
Better get myself going to the license bureau and get that done now. See everyone later, and take care of yourselves (especially those with colds or the creepin' crud thing). Lots of Ed's OJ should be in order.
Blessings and prayers for your Friday,
