Paul........ It's really sad to learn of your friend, Tony, and his situation. Prayers for him, his family, and his friends.
John Boy .... Thanks for the link for Illinois main Stret. I could make use of it. I'm think it would also be good for backdrops without building into full structures.
Der .... the ballast is almost in. What a chore, but sounds like your doing well with it.
Lee ... hey I kid you, but who said you could kid back? (just kidding again).
Jim in oz ... good to see you. Stop in again soon.

Good evening gents, spent the day preparing for Super Bowl Game party at the house Sunday, 5 couples coming over, plenty of eats, but I could use a chef like RYAN to help us for sure.
The ice storm knocked down a lot of branches, but no power loss and damage at out ranch.
RT: Happy Birthday!!! 53 is it ???? I hope the guys left enought BD cake at the Diner.
BILL: Congrats on your retirement, I guess you will have the duties of opening the Diner now in the morning as the newest memeber to the ROF club.
MIKE: 4 BAGS a day??? You must be cranking that stove big time , the most I ever used was 2 bags a day for 24 hour period.
ED: I didn't know you were a song writer....you are certainly a man of many talents!! I can just imagine you now sitting on your front porch with your 6 string singing " Throw another log on the fire". Are you one of the retired "Sons of the Pioneers"?
JIM: God works in mysterious ways, but He expects you to follow up, remember, a man chases a woman until "she" catches him. If there is a nice show in town, get two tickets and slip her a note saying you have the tickets and ask if she would like to go. Another thing to do, is send some flowers to the bank with a card to her.
Time to hit the sack, big game tomorrow, Go PATS !!!
Just a tall cool glass of water please.
Have been preoccupied with stuff lately and have not made it in here. HAPPY BIRTHDAY to anyone I missed. Also, really great work on those structures Jeffrey. Well, probably another challenging week ahead here. Take care all.

Evening folks-just some coffee in my "Eeyore" mug, thanks.
I finally get to sit down for a few before a late bedtime. It's been a crazy past few days in a sense. I was at work yesterday when the hospital called & said my Mom had a minor setback-she got very light headed in the bathroom & they took her down to the emergency room to check her out thoroughly. The ER doc was a little concerned about her EKG, & wanted to transfer her back to the hospital she originated at. Mom & I both were adamant at her getting shuttled back there, as we felt the shuttling wasn't doing her any good. But they said the Skilled Nursing unit couldn't monitor her cardiac-wise as they could at the other hospital. But they suggested one of the bigger hospitals over in Canton east of here, & she agreed. So that's where she's at & resting comfortably. (The majority of the people around here as I may have said are not happy with the health care separation around these parts.) So she's doing ok for now, & to add to that, my Dad several days ago decided to do some sweeping. Problem was he unknowlingly used the "defective" old vacuum that needed work instead of the good one-it just kicked up a huge amount of dust, & ended up getting a bad chest cold from breathing in the dust. No getting him to the doctor to get checked out-you couldn't if you tied a logging chain to his ankles! (He hasn't seen a doc since he slammed his finger in his car door 30 yrs ago!) But he is improving slowly-just taking it easy.
I wanted to work on my train cars tonite, but picked up a cheap bookcase at Wally World-I figured I'd get it together in an hour or so...PFFT! 3 hours later, & having to drill screws in to secure what split & came apart, I should have known. Anyways, it IS together-it isn't "Martha Stewart", but serving the purpose!
Best to all folks-I better GIT to bed!

Good morning all,
Mitch, sorry to hear about your mom, I hope things continue down the road to recovery. Up here in Euclid we now fall into the Cleveland clinic or University hospital system, I was skeptical at first but it's so easy now to see specialists or get x-rays covered under my insurance. I forget you only live a stone's throw from me.
Jim, welcome back and don't be a stranger. How are things in OZ?
Johnboy, very cool of you to share that web site!
I wandered into the local Home Depot to pick up some lumber for the L.S.&W. last night and all their portable heaters were 50% to 75% off. I picked up a 23,000 BTU kerosene heater (normally $216) for $50. They had 110v oil heaters for $11.
HO Brass snap track, I have 36 18" R, 17 9" straight, 9 bumpers, 4 9" re-railers, and some small stuff (curve easements and stuff). If anybody in the diner is interested it's free, if not I'm putting it in the garage sale pile.

Mornin,, just coffee for now Janie.
Suppose to be almost warm again today, but it's foggy out now, and the temps are just right for black ice.
The CFO has had me busy the last couple days with chores n such, and I figure it'll be bout the same today with company coming for the game.
Appears every one survived the weather last week ok.
DICK,, the day we went through the pellets was one where the cold seemed to slip in through the walls no matter how well your house was sealed. Most every one we know round here has said the same thing.
OZ,, glad your sill with us. Like every one else "what's ya been up to?"

Morning all!
Big day planned here! My daughter has decided she wants a dog. This will be her dog and she'll take it with her when she moves out someday (I don't really want another one). Anyways, looks like we're picking it up today!
Also, get this.....after 20 years of not one bit of interest in model trains, my wife wants to work on the layout today!!!!!! Heart be still!!!!!!!!! The bad part is, I don't really have any fun jobs that need done right now. Everything is tedious work. Hmmmm, gotta think of something, and quick! Maybe running a train to "test the track".....yeah, that'll do it!
Lastly, the church's big chili cookoff is tonight! Now, you have to understand, I love to cook chili, and my family knows that when I'm in chili mode in the kitchen....look out! I get HARD CORE! I was up late into the night last night preparing the "winning" chili. This is, as my son put it when he taste tested last night, "The best chili he's ever had in his mouth", end quote. I hope so! And last night I passed on the Carrell family chili recepie to my son. He won't remember all of it, so we'll just have to practice it some more (oh darn!). It was fun spending time with him in the kitchen though. In case you can't tell, I love to cook! Judging by my waistline, maybe a little too much!
Oh well, busy day! I'm outta here!
Later!

Evening all,
I think Fergie is responsible for our bad weather here today! The winter storm arrived in a MESS! Rain, turned to snow, turned to sleet, turned to rain, turned to freezing rain, turned to snow, and now it's raining again and windy.
I Don't think so. If that was the weather we lost a day on the hill last Wednesday as it rained
BTW Congrats on the requalifying on the Swimming! Not an easy task.
Jeff: Really nice job on the trailer. Nicely done indeed!
To make matters worse I decided a trip to North Conway and the Brass Caboose was in order...
CLOSED Tuesdays and Wednesdays, Jan-Feb
Yes I went to North Conway and spent a whole $16 on ski equipment!!!
Anyway what's a guy ta do? Though I did get a few picks of the 0-6-0 at Gorham but the Museum was CLOSED No Trains, No Skiing, No Mrs. I just felt like crying
Ed: Thanks for the link to the other forum I really didn't think much of the photos but then again Narrow Guage is an oddity in North America.
RT: Belated !
Bill: Happy Retirement. Hope you enjoy all that "Free Time"!
Anyway Time to run as I have things and stuff to catch up on. And have a Super Bowl Party to get ready for.
Go PATS Go !!!!!!!!

Parma High School Train Show.
Good size show, but it was 80% S & O gage stuff. No movie, memorabilia, or tee shirt vendors. HO-Scale rolling stock was $1 to $6 per car. I picked up 3 BLT-1923 tank cars (wood) and 4 BLT-1925 K-2 triple (ore cars) for $28. One of the ore cars was built by Varney.
Jeff, Walther's 933-3049 I know in the past they sold just the platform, I'll keep my eye out.
Fergi, there were several narrow gage railroads in north America, matter-o-fact there is still one running just south of me in West Virginia, an old logging railroad. I think they have 4 shay locomotives running tours.
Haven't picked a slogan yet.
Ok going to see what's going on in the other room.
Hi Gang: Mary Ann and I just got back from seeing baby Lara. She is 5lbs 4 1/2 oz. DIL Dyanne's father is in the hospital with a possible heart attack. They took him last night to the local hospital and transfered him to Ft Worth later. He's accross the street from Lara. If it isn't ne thing it's another.
Thanks for the prayers for Tony. I'll go in and see him tomorrow.
Right now I have to get out and work on Mary Ann's new container. I'm going to move it the 6 inches or so forward to line up with the other one. Mary Ann says it's OK where it is but I want it even.
My best ot all.
in a SANTA FE mug tonight, please & thank you!
***Mitch, hope both of your folks improve quickly.
Picked up the last 4 bales of hay from our supplier the other day. Have not found any more anywhere...this is frightening. Limited square bales available, so praying those will remain available. Think we found a home for two more of our Paint horses. Every less mouth to feed helps.
Enjoy the big game, all. (Go Pats) Reason I didn't use bigger type is I have never been a big fan of either team. Think it would be cool though for the Pats to make history.
Good Afternoon Coffee Clubbers,
It's a beautiful day in my neighborhood! Around 80º, partly cloudy, with a nice breeze blowing. We got up late this morning, after staying out past our normal bedtime due to the party last night. But we had our normal Sunday eggs and bacon. And now my chili is simmering in the crockpot, so there's not much to do except wait for the game. I don't watch any of the pregame hype, and will try to turn the tv on as close to kickoff as possible.
Go Giants!!

The candle thing comes in, (at least the one time I witnessed it) in the "blessing of throats", two unlit candles being held against the throat of the person being ministered to. Curiously, St.Blaise's Day is Tomorrow, Feb 3rd!
Paul B: The work day at the track fizzled. No one showed up. Terry was pretty mad and went home. I didn't figure it would help if I tryed to talk him into us doing anything so just let him go.
Garry: I have tests scheduled in the hospital heart clinic Monday.
Dick: Are you one of the retired "Sons of the Pioneers"?
Rob - good luck, Buddy, with whatever it is that you're dealing with. My daughter and son-in-law have also been downsizing their herd. I think they're down to 13 horses now. They need to get down lower yet. They had ideas of making it into a business. But it never worked out that way. Now, for them it's an expensive hobby that they can't afford.
Mitch - sorry to hear about the continuing problems with your Mom, and now your Dad's new issue. Sounds like he needs Mom to get back and take charge of the housework.
PC: My daughter has decided she wants a dog. This will be her dog and she'll take it with her when she moves out someday (I don't really want another one).
Lee: There were several narrow gage railroads in north America.
That's about it for now. I need to take a nap before things get started with the game.
Hasta luego,

Whoa, Janie, I'd better get in before all the seats are taken! Is everyone coming here to watch the SuperBowl game? And when did you get that widescreen TV by the back booths? Oh, just renting it to 'beef up' sales today. Okay, makes sense. I'll have a Dr. Pepper to go, please. Thanks!
Hey, OzJim - welcome back! Hope your layout has been coming along. How much have you been able to get finished so far?
Jeff, I like that li'l shack - got some nice character to it! Whose trailer do you have there - a Novacomp? I like it.
Johnboy, thanks for the link to that Mainstreet Illinois site. Saved their PDFs to look at later.
Ed, (no pun intended - well, maybe...) that's a lot of tamales! How big is your town (and surrounding residents)?
Garry, that your tests and all will go smoothly at the hospital. Will they be keeping you overnight, or just if they find anything?
Dick, while some of those 'courting ideas' are interesting, I don't know her name yet (durn it, they don't have name plates by the window tellers' places like some other banks do). I could cause some talk if I called up and asked who works at that window...
Rob, you're on my personal prayer list - sounds like it's been less than fun lately for you & the wife. Are your wife's parents doing okay?
Mitch, sounds like your Dad and Mom both need to be on the list, as well. Not to worry about the bookcase not looking like Martha-with-dozens-of-assistants-doing-the-real-work-Stewart. Her canned approach to home decor sticks in my craw, so to speak. (A little former art teacher rant there...)
Well, got to get to the SB party now. I'll be back later tonight, I figure, with my reviews of the commercials (the real reason I watch!).
Blessings,

Well I hit a minor set back in my new web site......
The host for my web site is an anti-Microsoft and anti-Netscape so they don't believe in HTML, but they do believe in HTM. So the web page I designed won't work unless I discard my Microsoft Enterprise 2007 Front Page software and revert to an application of their choice (Firefox, Unix, & Linux). Their reasoning is: Microsoft and Netscape are "dominating the market".
Isn't that a pain in the EOT!
Evening Gang:
Lee: As Winnie The Poo would say, " Oh, bother. " Seems like there are folks out there that like to make yhings hard for everyone else.
Not much since this afternoon. I finished with Mary Ann's container. I then got the batteries out of the F-250 and we went into town to get lunch and to the Tractor Supply Store to get a couple of battires. After I put them in the truck started up right away. It's an 84 with 277,000+ miles on it. Mary Ann won't let me replace it. She likes old junkey things. I guess that's why she keeps me around.
Dianne's father had a heart attack. They put in a stint to clear one blockage. He's going home in a couple of days. Now he needs to quite smoking and loose some weight. Unfortunatly he doesn't do what he needs to. I'd like to take him to see Tony. Maybe that would shake him up.
Well it's time to head for bed. Of course first Daisy the Dog needs to go out.
OH NO!! TOP and on SB night. Well I'll have to do dishes for a month.
Good Night All
Good Super Bowl folks! It's just turned half time, so I'll get this written, and see what happens after that!
Mitch: Sorry to hear about your Mom's setback. Hope they get it sorted soon.
PC: That's huge news about your wife's mrr interest. I take it that you'll be looking for something for her to do that doesn't involve a lot of standing. (How's her knee coming, BTW?)...How about trees? One always needs trees!
Jeff: That trailer looks really used! Great weathering job!
That trailer is similar to the one I live in. The model is of a forty footer, mine is a twenty-five footer. The builder was Nashua. The skin is all heavy aircraft aluminum.
Fergie:
No Trains, No Skiing, No Mrs.
Jerry:
I found a cunk of plastic from a "for sale" sign I picked up at Wllyworld about a year ago so I decided to use Plastic...
Lee: That sucks about the HTM. I thought Microsoft and Netscape didn't get on so well themselves. I've heard good stable things about Firefox, but really am out of my depth there.
Johnboy: The ballasting is done for now. Just repair work, cosmetic touch ups of places I was a bit sloppy with in earlier applications. I'd like to encourage you to give it a try, and I'll post the method that works for me. In typing some more I've found I've rambled on, so I'll just introduce the kit of tools for now.
So, here's the kit I've found works. The order of use reads left to right.
That's the real stone ballast, then the top from a detergent bottle to hold the bit I'm using, and a small spoon (when did Dairy Queen last use red spoons? I've had that one for well over 20 years!) The spoon's to load ballast onto the green folded card, for dumping, trailing or drizzling onto the track and shoulders.
The yellow handled brush is just wide enough to fit between my N Scale rails. It's stiff, not soft, and that's key for scrubbing the ballast down in between the ties, especially at turnouts.
Missing from the photo, because I've only just thought of it, is the bottle of clipper oil and a small paint brush with which I apply oil to the turnouts' closure rails and throwbar so nothing gets glued shut.
The makeup brush is very soft, and settles the ballast down into the final shape of the shoulder nice and smoothly.
The India ink goes in the spray bottle (2 drops). This instantly weathers the ballast. Fergie gave us that tip.
The rubbing alcohol goes in the spray bottle, about 20% by volume, and of course water is the 80%. The spray bottle gives a fine drenching mist with NO BLOBS. That's very important IMHO, as the blobs act like bombs on the dry ballast. Worth testing out in the store if possible. I found this one while cleaning my desk a couple of weeks ago, shoved behind the monitor! It's a really good one.
I glue everything down with dilute white glue. I know the books say 50-50, but I find a much more dilute mix soaks in faster, and holds just as well. There are almost no white globs at a weaker dilution too, I've found. The small container with the eye dropper is what I use for dosing out the glue mix, refilling as required. The eyedropper is a must for gentle application, avoiding gushes of glue that can happen with pouring the stuff.
Next time I'm in I'll get he step by step photos up. Photobucket freaked at the 11 I tried to upload. So bear with me.
Paul: Sorry to hear about Dianne's father. We'll be praying, and as you sa, there's things he can do too!
Kris is watching a movie, so the game will have to be grabbed at ad time! Last time she reported there was no change from the 7-3 (or 3-7 depending on your bias) from ½ time.
all, and God Bless. Prayers for al in need of healing, comfort and peace.

I actually WON the chili cookoff today! Thats right, First Place!
There were 10 chili's there, ranging from a white bean chicken chili to one that had large chunks of peppers in it. Some of them were better then mine I thought. But when the votes were tallied, mine came out with the most votes!
Here, I brought in whats left of it so you all can sample it!
