Nice effort on the menu, Ryan.......... but where are the New Orleans Po' Boy sandwiches? Must I special order one? .... Also, may I suggest Kentucky burgoo? It would hit the spot on a cold day?

Afternoon Gang: Not much going on here. It's somewhat cold here but not as bad as further north.
Gary I got the plans and took them over to my friend Monday. He was very pleased with them and will be dropping you a line. Thank you very much.
I've got to go. I'll stop back in later.
Paul ..... I'm glad you received it! Hope your friend found them to be useful.
Everybody: Here's a sandwich (Kentucky Hot Brown) to warm your innards on a cold day:
A Hot Brown is a hot sandwich originally created at the Brown Hotel in Louisville, Kentucky, by Fred K. Schmidt in 1926.
The Hot Brown is an open-faced sandwich of turkey and bacon, covered in mornay sauce and baked or broiled until the bread is crisp and the sauce begins to brown. Many Hot Browns also include ham with the turkey, and either pimentos or tomatoes over the sauce, and imitation Hot Browns sometimes substitute a commercial cheese sauce instead of the mornay sauce, but fans of the dish usually decry this substitution. Some restaurants even offer a 'veggie brown' nowadays to attract vegetarians as the recipe is easy to modify with avocado, or, less commonly, soy burger.
The dish is a local specialty and favorite of the Louisville area, and is popular throughout Kentucky.
On menus within the Louisville area, the Hot Brown often appears as titled "Louisville Hot Brown", elsewhere in Kentucky outside Louisville as the "Kentucky Hot Brown" and outside the commonwealth simply as "Hot Brown."

Good Evening Coffee Clubbers,
Another beautiful, if coolish, day down here in Paradise. Yup, it was a real ‘break out the sweaters' type of day. Supposed to start getting back towards normal starting tomorrow. As far as I'm concerned, it could stay this way for a while.
Continued with a few laps on the layout, and more work trying to organize the area. Turning out to be more of a problem than I originally thought. But we'll get there eventually.
I just realized that in 8 days, I will have been a forum member for 6 years! Does that constitute for anything on here?
Flashwave - Happy Birthday!!
Garry - that recipe for Kentucky Hot Brown looks good. Unfortunately, I'm not sure how to make a mornay sauce.
Not much more to add tonight. Catch you guys tomorrow.
Hasta mañana,
Ed
Howdy everybody:
Ed: Mornay sauce (Kentucky style) is a cheese sauce combining white chedder and parmesan cheese 50/50. You can probably find a mor fancy recipe on the internet, however. It's easy to make KY Hot Brown and it's tasty. Even I can make it. Ryan could do it in his sleep.
Cheers everyone.

Thank you.
Evening Gang: I'm just stopping in for a quick one. we just got back from the hospital. The baby is doing fine. She has put on a coupleof real oz. of weight. The weight before was water retention. They have taken her off the breathing machine and she is on her own. She is a winner for sure.
I have an appointment with the cardiolgist tomorrow for a strees test and another test in the afternoon. No breakfast untill the first test is over. I'm going to be hungry for sure.
Well I'd better get to bed.
Good Night All
Evening, Chloe - are Ryan's menu choices still available? If so, I'd like the Blue Plate Special with a side order of fries and a Dr. Pepper, please. Thanks, Jeff!

Ryan, excellent menu design (and offerings, prices, and...)! But it looks like you may have got yourself back into being a restaurantier!
Looks like Fergie and Johnboy are competing for the "Brass Monkey" prize for lowest temp of the evening... That is way too cold, Fergie! We're only getting to about 20 F (-5 C), and it's currently about -4 C (24 F) currently. Supposed to start warming up over the next two days, so that by Sunday afternoon it should be about 61 F (16 C). Much better, IMHO! Unless Avenger is hoping to get some major cold weather in Florida...
Fairly busy day today - all of my appointments showed, and I had on one to figure out if I was going to see the client (due to some paperw**k that wasn't there and that I needed). I may have to adjust if they all keep showing up. Usually when I have one that misses, I can get my notes done that I didn't have time for earlier in the day. I'll need to finish up some of today's paperw**k in the morning before my first appointment.
PC, hope things level out and get better soon for your wife & the rest of your family. Time for more of the Diners & family members to heal up from their ailments.
Paul, great news on your granddaughter picking up some weight! Sounds like she's a fighter, all right.
I'd better get going on my burger now.
Blessings and prayers,

Just wanted to announce that global warming has been put on hold for a few days. It will return to it's regular "mentioned every 2 minutes" schedule as soon as possible.
Heartland- you are right about the trips to the airport being worth it, I like seeing people going somewhere, and especially enjoy seeing them greet each other when it's been awhile between visits. And watching planes take off and land is never a bad day, if you can't watch trains, that is.
JimRC- your request for 2 cups of coffee (one for your car) reminds me of the time I was on patrol, and was sent to an elderly female's residence. Upon arrival, I noticed the windshield of her car was totally missing. It looked like someone had professionally removed it, until I saw the glass covering the interior. She told me she had decided it would be easier to throw a pan of boiling water on it than it would be to scrape the ice off. She even got a big kick out of my comments about it being the clearest windshield I'd seen that day!
Silverspike- you aren't the only one wanting to see my pictures on a computer! I thought, a few years back when we bought our digital camera, that it would be a breeze to snap fantastic shots, and plug the camera into a puter and presto! Phil pix everywhere! But nooooooo, I still hold the @%%&#(& thing up to my eye to take pics, I can't begin to read the settings or make heads or tails out of the little drawings that tell you what setting to put it on. Rats. Thats why I am waiting for Amyjo to assist, she took right to it, takes pretty good pics with it, and tends to worry that I'll pitch it into the ground one day! I like my old Olympus OM-10, I know where things are and all of the controls are big enough that I don't activate 3 at a time!
Cox-47- my stepdad worked at Delco Remy, I spent many an hour in the 662 Union Hall, but only attended one train show there, and that was after I had moved to Yorktown. No one ever mentioned train shows at the Hall, and I guess I missed alot. My s-dad was into N scale steam, but we only went to shows in Darke Co, or Indy. Oh well. I'll let you know how it goes in Ft Wayne.
Just talked to Amyjo, she is a 911 dispatcher at our county jail, she is working with an officer who truly does not belong in police work. He just called in a plate for her to check on, and advised her it was either "Virginia JTW-something, or if not that ...." Hey, we can guess at the state of issue and put any numbers in we want, but it doesn't tell you what you need to know! He is such an idiot. One bad apple in an otherwise decent dept. Sorry, just had to rant a bit.
Gentlemen-and Sue- take very good care, and stay warm.
Morning all
Hate to say that we had a real cold one this moring -11 in the mill parking lot. Dumpster truck was out starting many vehicles that just did not have enough ummmmph. Drive home it never really got warm in the Jeep.
Paul glad to hear your grandbaby is doing better. Must be a relief.
PC hope your wife continues to improve.

Jerry - I'll try to have a healthy choice item on the daily special menu, and I'll try to post a special board menu every day, but on may days off...well...Bill's regular menu will have to suffice. Oh, and your avatar finally works, looks great!
And speaking of daily specials.....
Today's Daily Specials
Sue - You were just too quick there on the draw, Bill posts the regular menu and you can order from that anytime, the daily special menu is just for that day only.

Garry - I'll have to add those items to the menu for next week, I done already made out the daily specials for this week. And yes, I can make a Mornay in my sleep, that "Hot Brown" looks good too!
Thanks for the link to the railway maps Lee!

Yes, a Mornay sauce is really a Béchamel Sauce with the addition of shredded or grated cheese. And a Béchamel Sauce is one of the five major sauces, it is a fancy name for a cream sauce made with milk and thickened with a roux. A roux is a mixture of flour and butter.

You are right Jim; I am living out my virtual restaurant menu dreams! I guess after watching the movie Ratatouille over the holidays it got me to thinking about culinary delights again.
Phil I know what you mean about cameras, I have an old Olympus OM-10 and it worked just fine too!

Good Morning All,
It's twice as hot as yesterday morning - a veritable heat wave is engulfing us. Global warming come on Friday. Oh wait it's 15F. I'll have a regular and one of Bills' donuts please. Mighty nice of you to keep bring those donuts in Bill - thanks.
Paul - good to hear that the lil ones putting on weight and better yet breathing unassisted. It always amazes me how strong these little tiny people are. Oh and I hope you don't get too stressed out with your stress test (ask RT).
PC - good to hear your CFO is doing better and I hope the next round of surgery goes better. Perhaps you could arrange a donation of a new torgue wrench for the person who puts in the surgical bolts since that seems to have caused the problem in the first place.
And a belated Happy Birthday to Flashwave. So did you get the cab forward?
Avenger - are you in Stewart? I need to call my buddy down there and rib him as he was up here in Connecticut two weeks ago and hadn't been is snow for aout 2 decades.
Well - lots to do today - no MRR work last night just reading for research though I did find a picture of the repainted diner car I'm doing. I'll check in later J.R.
hey guys.!
well it's back to school unfortinuatly (spelling?) I got a swimmeet for the high school in waterville, Maine home to former Maine Central 470 and former Maine Central engine repair and servicing facilities, which are still in use, and there is even a hobby shop there.
The best part is that I have another swimmeet tomorrow for the YWCA team at the same pool. so I'll be staying overnight. hopefully I can convince my mom to bring me to the hobby shop, before the meet and maybe after the meet we might see the 470.
